MRS. BERNHARD GUTHEIL

Margaretha (Mattes) Gutheil

Called By Death
Mrs. Bernard Gutheil, nee Mattes, aged about 81 years, died last
Monday at the home of her son, Waldemar in Milwaukee, and the funeral
took place there on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Gutheil were residents of Kiel
some 37 years ago, the former, in company with his brother Louis having
operated a brewery, which was located on the present Emil Reichart place.
The deceased was born in Franklin, and lived in Kiel for many years,
where she has a large circle of friends. Some years after the death of
her husband she moved to Milwaukee with her sons, Waldemar and Bernhard,
who survive her.

***************
In 1858 Bernard and Louis Gutheil started the Gutheil Brewery just east
of Kiel at present address 23030 HWY 57. I believe Bernard is buried at
Milwaukee.

Gutheil Bros.' Brewery was erected in 1858 by Bernhard and Ferdinand
Gutheil. In 1866, the latter removed to Chilton, Louis Gutheil, the
present member of the firm, being taken into partnership. The capacity
of the brewery is about 500 barrels of beer per annum.
