Philip Manz Is Called Sunday
Philip Manz, 75, passed away at 4 o'clock Sunday morning at his home
southwest of this city. Mr. Manz had been in ill-health for the past
seven years and had been seriously ill for the past month.
Mr. Manz was born June 9, 1864, in the town of Rhine, the son of Jacob
and Maria Manz. He was married on October 8. 1889, to Miss Louisa 
Brieske, in the town of Rhine. For the past 33 years the family has
resided at the present farm home.
He is survived by his wife; the following children, Mrs. Walter (Hattie)
Streiber of the town of Rhine, Arno of Howards Grove, Rueben and Arlan
at home, Mrs. Jac. (Carola) Minch of the town of Plymouth, Gilbert of
here, and Harold, in the navy, stationed at San Diego, Cal.; 15 grand-
children and one great granchild. A son, Marvin, died about ten years
ago.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clcok from
the Wittkopp Funeral Home. The Rev. Harman G. Schmid will officiate
and burial will be made in the Woodlawn cemetery.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home Tuesday afternoon and evening
and up to the time of the services Wednesday.

Mrs. Louise Manz Dies On Saturday
Mrs. Louise Manz, 71 died Saturday morning at 5:30 o'clock at her home in
the town of Plymouth. She was the widow of the late Philip Manz, who passed
away on March 3.
Mrs. Manz was born March 16, 1869, in the town of Rhine, the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Brieske. She was married to Philip Manz on Oct. 8, 1889,
in the town of Rhine. For the past 13 years the couple have lived on the
present farm home, southwest of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Manz were priveleged
to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary last October.
She is survived by the following children, Mrs. Walter Streiber, town of
Rhine; Arno of Howards Grove, Rueben and Arlan at home, Gilbert of this city.
Mrs. Jake (Carola) Minch of the town of Plymouth and Harold of San Diego,
Cal.; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Henry of the town
of Rhine and Helwig of Adell; and three sisters, Mrs. Otto Nehlson, Mrs. H.H.
Chapp and Alma of Chicago.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the
Wittkopp Funeral Home. The Rev. Herman G. Schmid will officiate and burial
will be made in the Woodlawn cemetery.
The body will lie in state at the funeral home this afternoon and evening
and up to the time of the services on Tuesday.

The following is her son's obituary, she is mentioned in it

Funeral services were held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, New Holstein,
Wednesday, for Harry Martin, Sr., 76, of Route 1, New Holstein, who died
Sunday at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton.
The Rev. Hubert Nilles was celebrant at the requiem Mass. Burial was in
the parish cemetery.
He had been hospitalized for three months.
Born in the Town of New Holstein on April 18, 1893, he was a son of the
late Michael and Anna Hauptmantle Martin. He attended the district school
in the Town of New Holstein and SS. Peter and Paul School, Kiel.
He married the former Kena Boll on August 31, 1914, at St. Martin's
Catholic Church in Charlestown.
The couple farmed on the Martin homestead until retiring in 1958.
He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, New Holstein, and the Holy
Name Society of the parish. He served as a member of the Lincoln School
board for eight years.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Harry Jr. of Chilton; two daughters,
Mrs. Floyd Richter of Chilton and Mrs. Ray Sukawaty of Cleveland; 14 grand-
children, and two brothers, Norman of Kiel and Arno of New Holstein.

Mrs. Matthaeus Dies On Friday At Home Here
Many Present For Last Rites Monday Afternoon
After a two-day illness followed by a heart attack, Mrs. Mary Matthaeus, nee
Meinert, passed away at her home at 518 Fifth street here Friday morning at
4:45. She had been practically a lifelong resident of Kiel, and was closely
associated with civic affairs up to the time of her death. As a young woman
she had taught for three years in the public schools of Kiel. She was one of
the charter members and founders of the Kiel Frauenverein, the largest and 
one of the oldest civic organizations in Kiel today.
The deceased was born Oct. 31, 1868, on a farm in the town of New Holstein,
the daughter of the late Peter and Katherine Meinert. At an early age she
came to Kiel with her parents, enrolling as a student in the public schools
here. Her first schooling she received in the New Holstein schools.
On March 4, 1891, she was united in marriage to William Matthaeus of Manitowoc,
in a ceremony performed here. Mr. Matthaeus first conducted a general store in
the present Keppler building here, and later operated what is now the Kiel 
Roller Mill, conducting in connection a grain and feed business. Her husband
preceded her in death in June 1917.
Surviving her are two sisters, Mrs. Pauline Greve of this city and Mrs. Paul
(Frieda) Reiss of Andes, Mont.; and one brother, John Meinert of this city.
Twelve nieces and nephews also survive.
