J.E. McMullen, lawyer, Chilton. Born in Kingston, Canada, Oct. 7, 1843. 
His father, being a farmer, his younger years were passed in country 
life. In 1856, his father moved to Calumet County, town of Brillion. At 
this early day he endured many hardships. He and Nugent built the first 
mill there, and the village was laid out on a part of his farm. Having 
lived to accomplish this he died in 1860. J.E. then went to lumbering, 
but receiving an injury, he turned his attention to teaching school and 
studying law. About this period of his life he attended Madison 
University, but in 1864, enlisted in the Student's Regiment, 40th Wis. 
V.I. After being mustered out he went to Manitowoc County, and filled 
the position of principalin the First Ward School. He was graduated at 
the Ann Arbor Law School, in 1868, and came to Chilton and commenced 
practice. In 1868, he was elected District Attorney which position he 
held for ten years, and in 1880, the citizens elected him Mayor. He is 
now attending his law practice and dealing in real estate and is acting 
as attorney for the Calumet County Insurance Company. In 1871, he married 
Miss Clara Ebert, of Chilton. Their children are Collin E., William D., 
Corrine, Clara L., and Edna. He belongs to both the Masonic and I.O.O.F. 
lodges.

Mrs. Emma Meggers died at the Maplecrest sanitarium at Whitelaw on 
April 15th, after an illness of several years.
Mrs. Meggers was the daughter of the late Mr. And Mrs. Henry Kreimann, 
deceased, and was born in the town of Schleswig March 2, 1867. She 
became the wife of Andrew Meggers March 22, 1887. Seven children were 
born to them of whom five are living; Harry, Hilbert; Mrs. M. H. Matthaeus, 
Mrs. Frank Beaudox; and Evaline of this village and Mrs. Harvey Barkley of 
Detroit.  She leaves besides her children two brothers. Herman Kreimann of 
Kiel and Ferd. of this village, two sisters Mrs. Laurie Gau, Schleswig and 
Mrs. George Hajenga, Chilton.  
The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the F. W. Matthaeus residence 
and the remains interred to the New Holstein cemetery.

Her father's obituary:

Heinrich Kreimann died at the home of his son in the town of Charlestown on 
Tuesday, June 11 from a stroke. He had been in very poor health for the past 
few weeks and had only recently left his home in the village to live with 
his son. He was born April 11, 1838 in Mecklenburg Schwerin, Germany and 
came to America in 1838,(sic) settling on a farm near New Holstein. Later he 
moved to this village where he was postmaster for 16 years. In 1862 he was 
married to Wilhelmine Kruse who died eight years ago. Five children were 
born to them: Wilhelm who is dead, Herman, Ferdinand, Mrs. Louise Gau, Mrs. 
Emma Meggers, and Mrs. Bertha Hajenga. Besides those mourning his loss he 
leaves 1 brother, 17 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. The funeral 
was held Thursday, June 13th and the interment place in the Town of 
Schleswig, Rev. Karl Landabarger officiating.
