Anna Albers --- Calumet County Reporter --- November 1910
Mrs. Anna Albers passed away last Thursday evening, November 24th, at 9:30 o’clock, at the home
of her daughter, Mrs. J. P. Rueckrich of this city, aged nearly 83 years, her death being due to the
infirmities of old age.
Mrs. Anna Albers, nee Wiggers, was born at Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, on Dec. 27, 1827.
She was married to John Albers in 1845 and in 1847 came to America, settling on land which is
now New Holstein, Calumet County, being one of the very first families to locate their and naming
the place after the country of their birth. Here the family remained until 1893, after the death of
Mr. Albers, when the deceased went to live with her daughter, Mrs. J. P. Rueckrich, first at
Allenton and later here.
Seven children mourn her death namely:-- Mrs. Katherine Wick of Vincennes, Ind., (the first white
child born at New Holstein;) John Albers of Antigo; Mrs. Anna Schroeder of Oshkosh; Dr. Hy
Albers of Thiensville; W. W. Albers of Wausau; Mrs. Emilie Rueckrich of West Bend and Dr. Herman
H. Albers of Allenton. Besides these she leaves fifteen grandchildren, one brother and one sister.
The remains were taken to Milwaukee Monday morning and laid to rest on Forest Home cemetery,
Rev. C. Ruppert, of the Sef. Church of this city, officiated at the last sad rites.
The deceased was a noble woman. Coming to Wisconsin over sixty years ago, when all was
wilderness, she was a guiding star and great help to the man to whom she had been joined in marriage.
She reared a nice family of children, everyone of whom is highly respected and honored in their
respective home circles. -- West Bend News.
