Death was due to a heart attack. Mr. Voigt was afflicted with total blindness for the past thirty years. The deceased, well-known here was born in the town of Mosel on December 20, 1860, the son of John and Mary Voigt. When he was four years old the family moved to a farm in the town of Schleswig and resided there for four years, and then they moved to a farm in the town of Meeme, where they resided for ten years, and where Mr. Voigt attended the district school. On March 16, 1885 he was united in marriage with Miss Emilie Backhaus of the town of Rhine, by the late Rev. Ludwig Zenk, then pastor of the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church. After their marriage they resided on a farm in the town of Schleswig, three miles northeast of this city for 33 years, and in 1917 sold their farm to their son, Walter, and in 1918 moved to Kiel and resided at 902 N. 4th street. Survivors are five children, Oscar of the town of Schleswig, Edwin of near Kiel, Walter of Chilton, Mrs. Alex (Meta) Holzer and Mrs. Waldemar (Met) Reseburg of Kiel; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. His wife preceded him in death January 29, 1938, and since that time he has resided with his son and daughter-in-law. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock on Thursday afternoon at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, and at 2 o'clock services will be conducted at the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church. Burial will be made in the Rockville cemetery. ********** Mrs. John Voigt Funeral services for Mrs. John Voigt, 78, who passed away at her home here at 4:20 p. m. Saturday, were held on Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 p. m. at the C. J. Meiselwitz Funeral Home, and at 2 o’clock at the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church, with the Rev. E. L. Worthman officiating. Burial was made in the Rockville cemetery. The deceased, nee Miss Emilie Backhaus, was born in the town of Rhine on July 8, 1861, the daughter of Christian and Wilhelmina Backhaus. She was united in marriage on March 16, 1885 to John Voigt, a native of the town of Mosel, the ceremony being performed by the late Rev. Ludwig Zenk, who then was pastor of the local Reformed church here. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Voigt located on a farm in the town of Schleswig, three miles northeast of this city, where they resided for 33 years. In the fall of 1917 they sold their farm to their son Walter, and in the spring of 1918, they moved to their present home at 902 N. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Meiselwitz funeral home, Kiel, the Rev. E.L. Worthman officiating. Burial will be in the Rockville cemetery. Mr. Voland was born in 1868 at Mequon, Ozaukee county and in 1882 moved to this county. He married Miss Mary Pickeruhn in 1891. He operated the Brooklyn tavern near Kiel for several months and then moved to a farm near Elkhart Lake until 1914, when he returned to Schleswig to operate farms near Louis Corners. He served on the Schleswig town board. Mr. and Mrs. Voland observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1941. Survivors are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Walter Conrad of Russell, Sheboygan county, Mrs. Howard Prahl on the homestead farm and Mrs. Harry Klemme of Kiel; son, Elmer on the home farm; four brothers, William of Fond du Lac, Fred of Kiel, Oscar of Rochester, Minn., and Philip of Milwaukee; two sisters, Mrs. Philip Arnold of Kiel and Mrs. Carl Raquet of Schleswig; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church, Kiel, the Rev. Vernon Jaberg officiating. Burial will be in the Rockville Cemetery. She was born Mary Pickruhn in the Town of Schleswig July 2, 1869, daughter of the late Carl and Ana Nadler Pickruhn. She received her education in the district school at Rockville. On March 14, 1891, she was married to Alfred Voland of Schleswig and the couple made its home on a farm east of Kiel. In 1914 they moved to a farm near Louis Corners. The couple celebrated its golden wedding in 1941. Her husband preceded her in death during September of 1947. She was a charter member of the Louis Corners Ladies Aid. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Walter Conrad of the Town of Russell, Mrs. Hilma Prahl of Louis Corners and Mrs. Harry Klemme of Kiel; a son, Elmer of Schleswig; a brother, Theodore of Elkhart Lake; 10 grand- children and 23 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six sisters and three brothers. Friends may call at Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, after 2 p.m. Thursday until 11 a.m. Friday when the body will be moved to the church where it will lie in state from 11:30 a.m. to the time of service. - March 5, 1957 ********* Mrs. Alfred Voland Dies Tuesday at Louis Corners Mrs. Alfred Voland, 87, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Hilma Prahl, near Louis Corners, Tuesday morning following a lingering illness. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Pickruhn, born July 2, 1869 in the town of Schleswig. She was confirmed at St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church in Kiel. March 14, 1891 she married Alfred Voland and they made their home on a farm east of Kiel. Since 1914 they have lived on the farm near Louis Corners. The couple celebrated their golden anniversary in 1941. Her husband died September 27, 1947. She was a charter member of the Louis Corners Ladies Aid. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Hilma Prahl, Schleswig, Mrs. Walter Conrad of Russell and Mrs. Harry Klemme, Kiel, on son Elmer of Schleswig, 10 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren and a brother Theodore at Elkhart Lake. Six sisters and three brothers preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church with Rev. Vernon Jaberg officiating. Carl Voland Kiel relatives received the news on Monday of the death of Carl G. Voland, who passed away at his home in Milwaukee at the age of 77 years, after a prolonged illness, due to the infirmities of old age. Mr. Voland was a native of Germany and resided at Rockville for many years, where he plied his vocation as shoemaker. He held the office of town treasurer for a number of years. About seven years ago he moved to Milwaukee to make his home. He is survived by one son, Philip, a prominent furniture dealer of Milwaukee, and six daughters. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon, with interment in Valhalla cemetery. Sheboygan Press 1924 ************ His Wife: Called By Death Mrs. Carl G. Voldand passed away suddenly at her home in Milwaukee on Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock, death being due to apoplexy of the brain. Decedent, nee Anna Wittenberg, was born in Cedarburg, Wis., February 2, 1847. She was married there in 1871, after which the couple located at Rockville, where they resided for 40 years. Mr. Voldand plying his trade as a shoemaker. About 12 years ago they moved to Milwaukee, where they have since resided. On March 29, 1921, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Their union was blessed with eight children, of which two sons died in infancy. Besides her husband she is survived by six daughters, as follows: Mrs. Louis Meyer of Merrill, Mrs. Ed. Rother and Mrs. Meier of Milwaukee, Dora, Ida and Lydia at home. Also 11 grandchildren survive her. The funeral was held at Milwaukee on Monday, interment taking place at Walhalla cemetery.
