JOHANN J. STUCKI DEATH OF A PRIEST. - Rev. John Stucky (sic). Catholic Pastor of Centerville, died in that village on the 4th inst. He was a native of Switzerland, and aged about 37. His funeral took place on Friday, and was largely attended by members of his congregation and others. The services were conducted by Rev. Messrs. Oswald, Haider, Maley, Sebastian, and Peiffer. His place has been supplied by Rev. John Welter. Manitowoc Pilot Thursday, February 13, 1863 pg. 3 ******** DEATH OF FATHER STUCKY It is with feelings of the deepest regret that we chronicle the decease of the above named gentleman. We learn from the Manitowoc Pilot that he died at Centreville, in that county on the 4th inst. Mr. Stucky(sic) was well and favorably known in this community and beloved by all, for his many noble traits of character. For some years he occupied the position of pastor of St. Mary’s Church, distant about 9 miles from here, and frequently came to this village on official or private business. By his gentlemanly and courteous demeanor he endeared himself to all with whom he came in contact, and the unexpected news of his decease will fall like a leaden bolt on the hearts of the Catholic community wherever he was known. We were intimately acquainted with him, and hoped that he, so eminently gifted, would live to see the dawn of better days, conferring on his fellow beings the benefit of his learning and experience. But “Man proposes, and God disposes,” and at the early age of 35 years, a true gentleman, a noble minded man, a faithful pastor, a Christian at heart, has been called away. Let us cherish his memory and emulate his many virtues. Chilton Times – February 21, 1863

HUGO WAGNER Hugo Wagner Victim... Retired Farmer Dies In Combine Accident Cleveland (Special) -- A retired farmer who returned to the family homestead almost daily to help his son was killed Thursday evening near here when he fell into a grain combine. Found dead in a field about 6:30 was Hugo Wagner, 72, who lived in the village, but was helping his son, Ralph, whose farm is located along Highway 141 just south of the St. Wendel intersection. The elder Mr. Wagner had been combining oats some distance from the farm buildings. Because only a small portion of a field remained to be combined, his son became concerned and went to investigate. Strong, acting Manitowoc County coroner, who was called to the farm, made a preliminary finding, listing death due to a skull fracture and internal injuries. An autopsy was to be preformed later today to determine exact cause of death. Mr. Wagner had been under treatment for a heart ailment and members of the family believe he might have suffered a seizure or fainting spell. A life long resident of this area, he was born in the Town of Mosel, March 13, 1897, one of the 16 children born to the late John and Catherine Stein Wagner.
