HUBBARD CEMETERY

Franklin Township, Manitowoc Co., Wisconsin

Apparently a private family cemetery, in section 34. It is called the Hubbard Cemetery, it measures 35' x 37', and is located approximately 1/2 mile west of the intersection of San and Hempton Lake Roads, on the north side of the road. This cemetery has been reconstituted with a fence put around it. Original gate erected. No stones visible, very steep ditch before you can go from road to gate. Understand original grave markers were made of wood. Was plowed over for Agricultural purposes, but now plot restored to burial area, kept mowed just East of Mayerl Road (which dead ends N&S). North of the village of Whitelaw. Photo taken 11/2005. Documented by the Manitowoc Genealogy Society, 2009 (sent in by researcher/see contributors page)

FATAL ACCIDENT—We learn that a Mrs. Hubbard, wife of Stephen Hubbard,
aged about 60 years, and residing in the Town of Franklin, was burned to death one
day last week. She was engaged in a sugar camp, boiling syrup, when her clothes
caught fire from the flames, and her cries attracting the attention of two men chopping
near by, they hastened to her relief. She was rescued from the fire, but she was so
badly burned that a death ended her sufferings in a few hours. One of the men was
also badly burned in attempting to save her.
