TERRY ALAN DAMM Dog Fails to Save Life of Valders Boy Valders – A little cocker spaniel puppy tried valiantly to summon aid for his two-year-old master, Terry Ronald Damm, here Monday afternoon, but help arrived too late. Terry drowned in the Valders creek swollen with water from the spring thaw. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Damm, he had been out walking with his father. The father left the boy in the yard. Then he noticed the dog barking down at the creek. He went to investigate and found his son’s body caught in brush about 500 feet downstream from where the dog was barking in three feet of water. Dr. Edgar Huth was called and the fire department rescue squad brought the new pneolator. Undersheriff Clarence Baryenbruch, county traffic officers, and Coroner Theodore Teitgen, all came to the scene, but hour long attempts to revive the boy proved futile. The creek which runs through the southwestern corner of Valders empties into the Manitowoc River. It is normally dry except for the spring season. Terry was born June 16, 1950. He has no brothers or sisters. In addition to his parents he is survived by his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Berg, Route 1, Valders, and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Damm, Collins. EMMA AND MICHAEL KLEIN Truck and Auto Crash After Car Slides on Ice Michael Kleins Are Victims; Two Others Taken to Hospital RANDOM LAKE — Michael Klein, 69, and his wife, Emma, 75, of Rt. 1, Kiel, lost their lives Monday afternoon in a truck-car collision a mile east of here on ice coated Highway 57. The Kieins were in car with their granddaughter, Mrs. Janet Piggott, 22, of Cicero, Ill., and driven by her husband, Richard, 24, when it skidded into an oncoming truck of the Harold Klein Cartage Co. of Milwaukee, driven by Eugene Maletske, 33, of Milwaukee. Mr. and Mrs. Klein died at the accident scene. Both suffered multiple fractures and contusions. Piggott suffered a fractured leg and other injuries and his wife a possible skull fracture. Both are patients at St. Nicholas Hospital at Sheboygan. Maletske, the truck driver, sustained a bruised right leg and was treated at the accident scene. Skid Marks Found Sheboygan County traffic officers reported that 150 feet of roadside fence were ripped off and there were skid marks of both the truck and the Piggott car, which was bound north. Piggott told officers that he noted two trucks approaching from the north and one of the trucks pulled out to pass. He said he thought the passing truck would not be able to pull back into the right lane and applied the brakes. His car struck an icy patch and the two vehicles collided. Maletske told the officers that he had passed the other truck and had swung back into his right lane just before the collision. The officers indicated that the Piggott car was in the wrong lane when the crash came. The Piggott auto was almost a complete wreck, the officers said. Married 50 Years Mrs. Klein, the former Emma Olena Severson was born in 1880 in the town of Eaton, spent her early life in the county and later moved to Evanston, Ill., where she was employed. Her husband was born in Chicago in 1886. The couple was married April 11, 1905, in Evanston. Since that time they have resided in Evanston, Berwick, N. D., and at their present address on a small farm three miles west of St. Nazianz. Mr. Klein was engaged in landscaping and farming. Last April the couple observed their golden wedding with an anniversary mass at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazlanz, which was followed by a dinner and reception at the opera house in the village. The couple has three sons, Henry of Cicero, Ill, Ralph of Hammond, Ind., and Leonard of Rt. 1, Kiel. There are ten grandchildren. Funeral plans are incomplete and will be announced Wednesday by the Berge Funeral Rome, Valders. ************ Double funeral rites for Mr. and Mrs. Michael Klein of Rt. 1, Valders, fatally injured Monday afternoon in a truck-car crash on Highway 57 near Random Lake, Sheboygan County, Monday afternoon, will be held Friday.
