HELEN RYAN (d. 1929) About fourteen hours after the burial of her father, John Ryan, the shock of whose sudden death is believed to have affected her condition, Miss Helen Ryan, aged 22, died Monday night at the Holy Family hospital. Miss Ryan was suffering from a foot infection for some weeks. She had been a patient at the hospital and on Thanksgiving day had visited her home, with her brother, Earl, where they found the body of their father suddenly stricken by heart failure in the furnace room. Miss Ryan returned to the hospital and the shock of the tragedy at home is thought to have aggravated her condition and following a second operation Monday, she passed away Monday night. Born in this city, November 6, 1907, she attended the grade schools here and then entered high school graduating with the class of 1926. She decided to take a course in nursing and took a six months' course at the hospital here. Later, she went to Milwaukee to continue her studies at the St. Joseph's hospital in that city. She then returned to Manitowoc to make her home. Her death in the morning of life is regretted by all who knew her. Two sisters, Mrs. A.M. Grant, Waterbury, Conn., and Mrs. Elmer Mogensen of Racine and two brothers, Earl of this city and George of Milwaukee, survive. The funeral was held this morning from Sacred Heart Church. Interment was in Calvary. Manitowoc Pilot - Thurs., Dec. 5, 1929
MARY RYAN DIED: Friday morning Mrs. Michael Ryan passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Julia Bushman, 352 Farewell avenue, Milwaukee. The deceased was eighty years of age at the time of her demise. She was a well known resident of the city for nearly fifty years. The remains were brought here for interment. The decedent was born near Ennis, Clair county, Ireland. She came to America in 1841. The voyage was a tempestuous one and lasted fifty-two days. She lived at Philadelphia and Lancaster, Pa., for thirteen years. In 1854 she was married to Michael Ryan at the last mentioned place, and the couple removed to this city. She was the mother of four children, three of whom survive her. These are John H. Ryan of this city, Mrs. Julia M. Bushman and Mrs. Wm. T. Warren, both of Milwaukee. Mr. Ryan, the husband of the deceased, died about thirty years ago, and then the burden of rearing and educating her children devolved upon Mrs. Ryan alone. But being a devout Christian lady, she knew how to discharge her duties with credit to herself and her family. During her long residence in this city she was a member of St. Boniface Church and also of the Saint Ann society. During the last five years she had made her home with one of her daughters at Milwaukee. She had enjoyed good health until a short time before her demise.
