THOMAS GADZINSKI (d. 1915) South Side Man Dead Thomas Gadzinski, an old resident of the city, died at his home, 1321 South Nineteenth street, yesterday, after an illness from pneumonia. Deceased was 53 and is survived by a wife and family. The funeral will be held Monday from St. Mary’s church. Manitowoc Daily Herald, Saturday, October 23, 1915, Page 1 ******** ENTIRE FAMILY OVERCOME BY GAS Gas Escaping from Coal Stove is Nearly Fatal BOY IN STUPOR IS NEAR TO HIS DEATH Overcome by gas escaping from a coal stove, the entire family of Thomas Gaginski (sic), So. Nineteenth Street, had a close call to death Monday and one member, a young son, was revived only after hours of work by physicians who were called, the boy being thought dead when found. Members of the family are suffering from the effects of the poisonous gas. Aroused in some manner, Mrs. Gaginski was able to realize the plight of the family but when she attempted to leave her bed to open a window and arouse other members of the family, she found that she could not do so owning to the effects of gas. She aroused her husband however, and with considerable effort he was able to reach a door which he opened , admitting the fresh air which aided in reviving his wife. A son of the family was found completely overcome by the gas and all efforts to arouse him failed until physicians were called. Investigation showed the trouble to be due to the fact that the stove had not been cleaned and when the stove became filled with gas, the door was blown open, filling the room. It is fortunate that Mrs. Gaginski was awakened else the family might have been dead when found. Manitowoc Daily Herald - Dec. 14, 1909
