GEORGE WNUK DROPPED DEAD AS WALKED STREET George Vnuk, Was On Way to Home in Seventh Ward When Stricken RUMORS PROVE UNTRUE Sensational Story That Sons Had Attacked Father Untrue - Boy Home Drunk When Body Was Brought to Home Sudden death overtook George Vnuk, a Southside man, while he walked the street early this morning, the man being found dead at the corner of Twentieth and Marshal Streets by residents of the vicinity who hastened to his assistance when they heard a scream and saw Vnuk fall to the ground. Heart failure was the cause of death and Vnuk lived but a moment after the attack, having expired before assistance could reach him. The death occurred at 5:30 o'clock. Vnuk, who was past 50 years of age made his home at 1219 Twenty-First Street and was on his way there when stricken. That the unfortunate man experienced suffering when the attack occurred is evidenced by the fact that he uttered a piercing scream that was heard throughout the neighborhood. He fell forward on his face and never moved after striking the ground. Vnuk's death gave rise to sensational reports implicating his son, John and the fact that the dead man's face bore marks that might have resulted from injuries due to a blow, gave some color to the stories until an investigation by the authorities had proven them untrue. The son was found at home, under influence of liquor when the dead body of his father was taken to the house and he was taken to the jail and locked up. Vnuk is survived by six children, his wife, having died several years ago. One son, George Jr., is employed as an attendant at the county asylum and one daughter is married in Chicago. A younger child is being cared for at the Green Bay orphanage having been taken there five years ago. District Atty Kelley was notified but no inquest was held. The funeral will probably be held Friday. According to reports Vnuk and his son have not been on the best of terms and it was said that no later than last week, the boy had attacked his parents and had handled him roughly. It was rumored that another fight had taken place Monday night and it was suggested that the sudden death of the older man might have resulted form this attack. This is untrue however, as death was due to heart failure. The story of a fight and probably carousal of Vnuk and his son was supported by the fact that an empty liquor bottle was found on the person of the dead man. Manitowoc Daily Herald - Tues., Sept. 24, 1907 ******** DIED: George Vnuk of this city, aged about 50 years, died suddenly, Tuesday morning.
