MARIE DUBETZKY Mysterious Death. We are again compelled to record one of those mysterious deaths for which our county seems to be unfortunately noted. Mrs. Marie Dubetzky, a resident of Reedsville, left her bed and house in that village on Tuesday morning, about 2 o'clock, and although search was immediately made for her, she was not found until 5 o'clock in the afternoon, when her lifeless body was discovered in the creek within a few rods of her dwelling. Her age was about 24, and she left a husband and two children. She was a daughter of Mr. John Stupecky, and her friends cannot understand the cause of her sudden and mysterious death, except on the ground that she was subject to fits, and while in one of them met with her untimely end. As she left the house with no other apparel but her night clothes, it is very probable that this supposition is a correct one. Her funeral took place in this village yesterday (Thursday) afternoon. Manitowoc Pilot Friday, July 14, 1865 pg. 1 ********* (Note: No record of her in the cemetery books, information received from Mrs. Alvina Klicka, lot owner. On finding the obituary and date, it was discovered that Marie was buried as Marie Stupecky.] See STUPECKY

WALTER P. DUENO (d. 2010) Walter P. Dueno Sr., age 82, of 923 N. 17th St., Manitowoc, died on Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers. A great man died today. He was not a famous lawyer, doctor or politician. He didn't make headlines in the paper. He was a son, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He went to work every day to a full-time job and most of his life a part-time job, sometimes 20-30 extra hours a week, not because he was a work-a-holic, but because he had a family to support. After work he came down the street whistling, so glad to be home. He took time to rock his chidlren, read to them, take them on picnics, take them hunting and fishing and on memorable vacations. He will live forever in the hearts of those who loved him and he will always be missed. Walter was born April 30, 1928, to the late Roland Sr. and Francis (Weninger) Dueno in Manitowoc. He was a Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II and Korea. He served in Alaska with Company A, and also in the 3rd Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) of Washington, D.C. He married Geneva Mae Vesely on Feb. 27, 1954, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Manitowoc. Walter worked 32 years for the city of Manitowoc Police Department as a Lieuteneant and Shift commander until his retirement in 1983. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, gun collecting and being surrounded by his family. Walter spent many hours as an amateur gunsmith, a hobby that he loved. He was a member of the Winchester Arms Collectors, National Rifle Association, AMVETS Post 99, Wisconsin Professional Police Association, Viking Bow and Gun Club. Walter was also a member of the Manitowoc County Deputy Sheriff's Association and a volunteer for the Sheriff's Department. He was also a lifelong member of Holy Innocents Catholic Church and St. Francis of Assisi. Survivors include his wife: Geneva Mae Dueno, Manitowoc; three sons and two daughters-in-law; five daughters and four sons-in-law; one sister-in-law (private); seventeen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren. Nieces, nepehws, other relatives and friends also survive. He was also preceded in death by one brother: Roland Dueno, Jr. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, Aug. 6, 2010, at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Gerald Foley with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo from 9 until 10:45 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 6, 2010. The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Roncalli High School or Manitowoc Area Catholic Schools.
