JUDY K. LECLAIR Judith Kay was embraced in God’s arms at 5:12 p.m. on June 15, 2021 in her home surrounded by her children and family. Judy was born on July 9, 1939 at 512 Caroline Street, Neenah WI to George and Mildred Larson, making them parents for the first time. If anyone knows our mom, you would know the importance of the number 512 and the great meaning it carried in her heart and for her to pass at 5:12 p.m. is breathtaking. All Judy ever wanted in life was to be a mom. She made a home for her family with wonderful meals, delicious desserts (especially her chocolate cake with thick chocolate frosting and first day of school requests such as cherry pie), countless cuddly dogs, and cozy decorations that included antique dolls and bears and lots of homemade craft projects. Christmas was her favorite season – she made the home into a magical place with evergreen and berry decorations that remained up all year. Outside was a winter wonderland when the pond was cleared to make a skating rink, next to a huge sledding hill where many friends spent time tobogganing and snowmobiling (along with swimming and fishing in the summer off the raft and dock). She was a gifted writer and artist, whether it was with water colors like her father, the pencil or ink sketches of her famous Christmas cards, cartoons, bookmarks for every book she ever bought or emails with different fonts and formatting (always with a borrowed stock image or original scanned artwork). She loved all types of music and passed along the permission to listen to it “cranked up” even in her last days. The memoir she penned of her childhood “From the Front Porch” in Neenah at 512 Caroline Street was printed and gifted to family and friends as a keepsake to treasure and pass along to the great grandkids. Her faith in Jesus and love of bible study brought the light of hope and love to anyone she met. Spending any amount of time with Judy meant you were included in her warm family because of her tender heart and witty sense of humor. Judy is survived by her children, Debi Perrault (Appleton), Terri (Tom) Goudy (Neenah), Amy (Dan) Fessler (Manitowoc) Katie LeClair and her partner Kelly (Minneapolis, MN), Jon-Paul (Tracy) LeClair (Oshkosh). Also survived were her 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Her siblings John (Pat) Larson (Appleton), Jean (Chris) Kordus (Appleton), Mark (Jean) Larson (Neenah) She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Leo J. LeClair, her parents George and Mildred Larson and her grandson Samuel T. Goudy, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will hold a private memorial celebration this summer. In lieu of flowers, please send condolences to Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, WI in memory of Judy LeClair. The family would like to express deep gratitude to Sharon S. Richardson Hospice, especially her nurse Cariann and also her grandson Jeremy Fessler and fiancé Sammi Leischner for all their loving care. From her memoir: “To my children…who gave me the most joy one can have…I want you all to shrink down to being young again…So I can do it all over again…only better” – Mom https://www.lakeshorefamilyfuneralhomes.com/obituary/Judith-LeClair
LEO J. LECLAIR Leo John LeClair, age 81, died on March 10, 2017, of complications due to diabetes and dementia, in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Leo is survived by his wife, Judy (Larson) of 45 years. Leo and Judy raised five children and enjoyed fourteen grandchildren. He built their home in Cato where he developed a pond stocked with perch and blue gill, where he spent time fishing and where the kids spent their summers swimming and winters ice skating. He also raised chickens, geese and ducks, enjoyed restoring classic automobiles, designed and assembled hand-crafted wooden furniture, and entertained many friends while baking his “famous” homemade pizza. Leo was born on October 24, 1935, in Manitowoc, the only son of the late Leonard and Lillian. Leo was raised on a small farm where they raised beagles, livestock, and harvested crops. He graduated from Lincoln High School and studied engineering in Chicago. Leo served in the United States Army as a medic in the 1960s. Upon his return home, he traveled extensively for the Manitowoc Company as a mechanic. He then joined Joe Kaufmann in the classic car restoration business, where they restored many autos from around the United States, including Duesenbergs for Clark Gable, Gary Cooper, and Greta Garbo. Leo and Judy were active members in the Horseless Carriage Club of America. He was later employed with Foster Needle Company as a Tool and Dye Machinist, from where he retired. Leo’s family and friends will always remember him as a tireless worker, a kind and generous friend, and creative person who was able to fix just about anything. At Leo’s request, a private family memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations to be made in Leo’s name to the Manitowoc Health and Rehab Center [2021 S Alverno Rd, Manitowoc, WI 54220], where Leo received excellent and loving nursing care for the last 3 years of his life. DORA MAE LEE 3 YEAR OLD CHILD KILLED BY PASSING MOTORIST WISCONSIN AVE. SCENE OF ACCIDENT Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Lee Fatally Hurt When Hit By Car Driven By R. Fricke Suddenly showing up in front of his car, while he was driving east on Wisconsin Ave. shortly after six o’clock last evening, Dora Mae Marie Lee, 3 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Lee, 940 North Sixteenth street, was run down and fatally injured by Richard Fricke, the child, suffering a fractured skull, where it was struck by the Fricke car, died at the hospital shortly after midnight last night. Coroner Kemper was notified and referred the matter to the district attorney to decide on whether or not an inquest would be ordered. The death of the little girl was a sad shock to the young mother, who was a Miller girl from this city before her marriage. The family removed to Manitowoc last January from Crofton, Neb., and have one other daughter, an eighteen month old child. Parents Both Home. The parents were both home when the accident occurred. Mr. Lee had parked his Dodge touring car on Wisconsin Ave. and the daughter was engaged in playing in and about the machine. They were under the impression that the child had been in the car and stepped from it to the street when struck by Fricke. Mr. Fricke on the other hand, in his version of the accident gave his view that the child had been playing at the curb and stepped out from the back of the Lee machine just as he came along. Fricke stated that he was proceeding east on Wisconsin street towards Sixteenth street and had slowed up to make the turn into Sixteenth street to stop at his residence, 930 Sixteenth street. He noticed the little girl when it had taken but a few steps beyond the park car. He tried to swerve his machine to the left to avoid striking the youngster, but the child continued on toward the middle of the street and was struck by the fender of the Ford coupe and knocked to the pavement. Fricke Stops Machine. Fricke reported that he stopped within a couple of car lengths and dashed from his car to pick the child from the pavement. By this time, Newton W. Allen, who resides across the street on Wisconsin Ave. rushed over and took the child from Fricke and ran to his own car. Fricke jumped in the Allen car and with Mr. Lee, father of the injured girl with them hastened to the hospital. An examination by physicians showed that the Lee child had suffered a fractured skull and shortly after midnight it died. Reports Accident to Police. Fricke, who is a member of the firm of Fricke and Weber, North Eighth street, immediately reported the accident to the police. The remains were taken to the Frazier Mortuary and it was announced that burial would take place on Saturday morning. It was announced this afternoon that the funeral of the Lee child would take place on Saturday afternoon at three o’clock from the Frazier Mortuary, corner of Ninth and Chicago streets. It was also said this afternoon that the district attorney had decided that no inquest into the accident would be necessary, it being the opinion of officials, after an investigation, that it was an unavoidable accident. TCHUE LEE Teen Who Died Had Past Heart Problems Eighth-grader collapsed during class activity Tchue Lee, the 15-year-old boy who died Wednesday while running during a physical-education class at a Green Bay park, had a significant history of cardiac problems dating to birth. "I think it's fair to say that he's had this condition all of his life," said Al Klimek, Brown County interim medical examiner. Klimek said Lee's medical condition made him susceptible to sudden cardiac death. Lee, a Washington Middle School eighth-grader, collapsed Wednesday morning while taking part in a running activity at Joannes Park. He was pronounced dead at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay but was clinically dead the minute he collapsed, Klimek said. Clinical death is when a person's pulse and respiration stops, Klimek said. Lee apparently died of natural causes, and Klimek said he would list the cause of death as a cardiovascular failure. A toxicology test will be performed. Lee was one of 64 students taking part in a run when he collapsed at the park. School officials said Wednesday three teachers performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the boy, who had stopped breathing. "The medical records that I have obtained have never shown that he's had anything similar to what he was presented with (Wednesday_ - fainting, (See Teen, A-2) TEEN/3 teachers performed CPR (From A-1) Loss of heartbeat or any kind of collapse under exertion," Klimek said. Lee was not on medications, Klimek said. Dan Nerad, Green Bay School District superintendent, said the school district typically requires a note from a physician before it will exempt a student from a particular physical activity. But Nerad would not say Thursday whether there was such a note in Lee's case or whether district officials knew about the boy's medical history. Klimek praised the three teachers who performed CPR on Lee. "These people were doing a great job," Klimek said. "If he had the ability to survive this incident, everything was provided to him in order for that to happen…and sometimes that just doesn't work." Classmate Dustin Kong said he would always remember Lee as a happy boy. "I always remember the smiles and jokes and how he dressed because it was funny…we called it old-school," Kong said. Kong said he'd miss "everything (Lee) does and says. "He was nice and he was friendly," Kong said. Kayla Bunday, a Washington eighth-grader, said she remembered Lee as a boy who would not stop laughing. "He was very funny and he shared a lot with his family and friends," Bunday said. "He always had a smile on his face and would always make a fool out of himself to make us laugh." When contacted by a reporter, Lee's family declined comment. Klimek said he would not perform an autopsy on Lee because he wants to honor and respect the Hmong tradition, which doesn't believe autopsies should be conducted on bodies. The Hmong culture opposes autopsies because it believes if a person's organs and tissues aren't intact, it would cripple a person in a second life, that person would not be able to return to his or her ancestors or that person could come back to harm family members, said Yia Thao, president of United Community Center. Nerad said the middle school conducted business as usual on Thursday, though there was a "somber feeling and understandably so." "Classes are being held, teachers are teaching classes, but I also observed kids who needed direct assistance," Nerad said, adding that about five counselors were at the school working with kids. "There are people in need of help, and that help is being provided," Nerad said. Green Bay Press-Gazette, Wis., Friday, May 6, 2005 pg. JOSEPH LEMBERGER Joseph Lemberger Ends Life With A Revolver CONDERN OVER LOSS OF WORK TOLD BY WIFE Second Shipyards Worker In Month To End Life Due To Unemployment Finding a revolver which his wife had hidden from him in fear that he would end his life, Joseph Lemberger, 49, shipyard worker, committed suicide Tuesday afternoon in the basement of his home, 905 Chicago street. His flat is in the rear of the Badger Hotel. He shot himself through the right temple with a .38 calibre revolver and died while he was being placed on the operating table at the Holy Family hospital. He was without steady employment the last few weeks, but previous to that had worked continuously. He had expressed concern over his ability to support himself and wife, but when his wife left for a short auto ride with Mrs. Edward Schreihart yesterday, he smilingly kissed her goodbye. Lemberger was found by his wife on her return. He was breathing heavily, his head propped up against a box. Discovery was made when Mrs. Lemberger went to the basement to secure food for the evening meal. Frank Poklinkoske, a son-in-law, slept through the shooting upstairs of the home. He is employed at the Crocker Brother garage on a night shift. Was Laid Off In earlier life Lemberger operated saloons at Grimms, and Antigo. For six years he was employed as a bartender for the late Adolph Schulze on Western Ave. For the past five years he was employed as a staging erector at the shipyards. When work became scarce Lemberger was laid off, and since then he worried considerably. His wife hid a revolver, which Lemberger had taken to a hardware store for repairs. Dr. George Hoffmann was called and had Lemberger removed to the hospital in the ambulance. He breathed his last just as he was being carried into the operating room. Coroner Gerald Rau of Two Rivers, who also was called, decided that there would be no inquest. The death of Lemberger marks the second suicide of a shipyards worker within a short period. Just a month ago yesterday William Ploeckelmann ended his life by hanging in the woodshed of his home here. Born In Whitelaw Lemberger was born in Whitelaw and spent his early life there. He was twice married. Two sons were born of his first marriage, Joseph and Edward, who reside in Chicago. In 1927 he was married at Antigo to Mrs. Amelia Winkleman of this city, who survives him with four brothers, Edward of Cato, Louis of Clarks Mills, Frank of Boyd, Wis., and George of Appleton, and six sisters, Miss Barbara Lemberger of Evanston, Ill., Sister Festina of Illinois, Mrs. George Schuh of Whitelaw, Mrs. Frances Heinrichs of Manitowoc Rapids, Mrs. Mary Neuser, city, and Mrs. Katie Heran of Hollandtown.
