THOMAS MICHELSON The Shadowy Shore. DIED-In the city of Manitowoc, on October 14th, 1881, Thomas Michelson, son of Michael and Emily Michelson, in the 24th year of his age. Thomas was born in the town of Cato, and passed all his days within the county, except a few months, during which he was engaged as book-keeper in the State institution at Waupun, a position he was obliged to relinquish on account of his health; lately he has been in the employ of Bibinger & Day. While his death was not unexpected, still it tends to sadness and gloom. When death comes swift and sudden, it is stunning in its effect; when it comes and lays low within a week robust youth and energetic manhood, it is startling; but when the grim spectre approaches slowly and softly, but surley, it sickens and saddens the soul. It was so in Tom's case. When that dread disease, consumption, fastened upon him, he knew there was no hope for him. Death had set its seal upon him, and his lingering life henceforth was but a torture. On Friday evening, after chatting in his usual jovial style with the friends around his bedside, he suddenly turned towards the wall, and with the words "Good bye, all." upon his lips, the low-burning lamp of his life slowly extinguished. His many friends and former companions will echo his "Good bye, all," with sorrowing hearts; they will ever remember his virtues, and cover with the soft mantle of charity his few foibles and frailties; and they will extend their warmest sympathy to his bereaved parents and sorrowing sisters. Manitowoc Lake Shore Times, Tuesday, October 18, 1881 P. 1 ******** Thomas Michelson of this city, died of consumption of the lungs on Friday evening last. His funeral took place on Monday. CHARLES H. MILES Sad Occurrence At Mishicott. - With deep regret we state that Charles, aged 10 years, the only son of Mr. Guy Miles, was drowned in the river at Mishicott on Saturday last. He was last seen with a spear near the slide of the dam about 10 o'clock ,and was missed shortly afterwards when search was made, which continued until 4 o'clock, when his body was found below the dam. He was a bright, intelligent lad, and the idol of the people of that village. The bereaved parents have the heartfelt sympathy of all their friends. LUCIA LOOMIS MILES DIED. In this village, on Monday morning, June 4th, 1866, Mrs. Lucia Margaret Loomis, wife of Mr. Guy Miles; aged 37 years. When the solemn bell tolled forth the sad tidings of Mrs. Miles’ death, how many who heard it will appreciate the extent of the fond husband’s bereavement. The being of a noble wife, and two little children (links from heaven) entwined themselves about the manly heart of the husband and father. His little boy—the father’s peculiar joy and pride, was sometime since drowned. But there was solace in the thought that his wife and little daughter mourned with him. That little daughter has since been called to her angel home among the stars. And now the mother, leaving a large circle of mourning friends who loved her sterling character and modest bearing, has gone to heaven to join her little angels there. But little comfort can be given in such cases, but we would point to the numerous friends of Mr. Miles’ little family and assure him of their united sympathy, and as to the departed ones, although lost on earth, he has three happy angels in heaven. LUELLA M. MILES DIED: In this village, on the evening of the 30th ult., Luella M., aged eight years and ten months, daughter of Guy and Lucia Miles. It is but a few months since the parents were called upon to mourn the loss of the companion of the deceased, who was suddenly snatched from them when residing in Mishicott, and now they are weeping over their beloved Luella, who has gone to meet her angel brother. Weep not for those whom the veil of the tomb In life's happy morning, hath hid from our eyes Ere sin threw a blight o'er the spirit's young bloom Or earth had profaned what was born for the skies. Weep not for her - in her spring-time she flew To that land where the wings of the soul are unfurled And now, like a star beyond evening's cold dew Looks radiantly down on the tears of this world.
