RUDOLPH REMMER UNKNOWN DEAD MAN KILLED IN FALL IS IDENTIFIED VICTIM OF CLEVELAND ? IDENTIFIED AS RUDOLPH REMNER, MILWAUKEE, BODY MAY BE CLAIMED BY FAMILY Identity of the man who died at the hospital in this city yesterday from injuries which he sustained in an accident at Cleveland Monday night when he fell from the roof of a building while engaged in cleaning a chimney, has been established, though no relatives have yet been located. Information has been received by L.A. Schmitz, of the county board’s poor committee, that the man is Rudolph Remer, the information having been obtained at Clover where the man is said to have spent some time lately. Residents there, who knew the man, have been asked to view the body here to make certain the identification. Remer, according to reports made to Mr. Schmitz, had been at Clover and in that vicinity for several weeks and left there Sunday or Monday, presumably on his way to Milwaukee, which is believed to be his home. One report says that the man is a resident of Sheboygan. The man’s face was so badly disfigured in the accident that positive identification will be a hard matter but Clover people are certain that the dead man is Remner. The body is at the Frazier undertaking rooms and is to be held while an effort is made to locate relatives in Milwaukee. EDWARD V. REUSS COMMITS SUICIDE IN CHICAGO Edward Ruess(sic) a Former Manitowoc Boy Shoots Himself—Message. Telephone messages received from Chicago this morning told of the suicide of Edward Ruess a former Manitowoc youth who left the city for Chicago about four months ago, the message stating that Ruess had shot himself at 2449 Cottage Grove Ave. Ruess is a nephew of Charles Beers and was an orphan being reared by Mr. Beers who gave him a home until he attained his majority. A short time ago he became of age and at that time came into a small fortune left him from his parent’s estate. Soon after he left for Chicago in company with a woman who had lived in the city and since that time he has not communicated with anyone here. Henry Beers left for Chicago this noon to investigate into the details of the lad’s death as it is feared that he may have met with foul play. Aside from the money which was left him Ruess had a block of real estate at St. Joseph, Mich., and it is suspected that he has gone through this also. Manitowoc Daily Herald, March 23, 1907 P. 1 ******* TRIED TO KILL WOMAN FIRST Chicago Report Says Young Ruess(sic) Shot at Girl And Then Suicided SWEETHEART WAS UNTRUE Boy Believed Woman False to Him-Died in Ambulance on Way to The Hospital Body Brought Here Edward Ruess, the Manitowoc boy who committed suicide in Chicago Saturday, first attempted the life of Mamie Laurie, his sweetheart, according to reports from Chicago. The Laurie woman is the one who accompanied Ruess from this city a few months ago and it is reported that on a previous occasion, while in this city, the youth had threatened her life and had been interferred with after drawing a revolver on her. Ruess, says a Chicago paper, found the woman in company of two men in the saloon of P.W. Gumb, 2558 State street Saturday morning, and after firing two shots at her, turned the revolver upon himself and inflicted wounds from which his death resulted while he was being taken to the hospital. A Chicago dispatch tells of circumstances leading to the shooting, in the foll- owing. "Miss Laurie, who lives in the Gerald apartment building Twenty-sixth and State streets, went to Gumb's saloon Friday night with two woman, Mrs. W.H. Fells, 2728 Wabash avenue and Miss A. Meyers, 273 Wasbash avenue. At the saloon they met J.W. Rigley, who lives at the Grace hotel, and M.J. Hoag, who lives at the Wellington hotel. While the five were together Reuss, who is a bartender at L.S. Ogren's saloon, 79 Twenty-sixth street walked in. He called Miss Laurie from the room. When she returned, Reuss followed and shot her." "The bullet struck Miss Laurie in the right ear, inflicting a severe scalp wound and rendering her unconscious. Reuss then shot himself in the right side and through his head. VACLAV REZAC 11 YEAR OLD BOY IS THIRD RIVER VICTIM WENCEL REZACH, AN ONLY SON, DIES AT NOON Two Companions on Crabbing Trip Flee From Scene; Efforts To Revive Are Futile A third river tragedy of the present season shortly before noon today claimed the life of 11 year old Wencel Rezach, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Rezach, 709 South Fifteenth street, and a student in the sixth grade of the Garfield school. Young Razach fell to his death into the river while he was seated along the docks near the Wisconsin Public Service Corporation plant on the upper river and although he was taken from the river within ten minutes life was extinct. He and two companions were out catching crabs and three of them were about the docks when Razach was seen to fall headlong into the river. His two companions fled from the scene in terror before their names could be secured. Dive for Body The ???ll of the boy was seen by C.J. Virgin, in charge of one of the Northwestern crews at work near the scene, and by the crane operator of the Wisconsin Public Service corporation and the alarm was immediately sounded. They reported that the boy came to the surface twice and was seen no more. When news of the tragedy reached the power plant at about 11:40 a.m., Frank Musial, a company employe, left his work and dove for the body with Lon Medley, recovering it only a few feet from where he had gone down. While Dr. R.W. Hammond was being summoned, rescue crews of the Wisconsin Public Service corporation applied the prone method of artificial respiration but they failed to revive the boy. After the doctor worked upon him for an hour without any sign of heart action being noted he pronounced him dead but the crew of the corporation continued their efforts without halting in the hope that the spark of life might be restored. Arrangements Not Completed Details of the boy's life could not be secured from the grief-stricken parents and funeral arrangements have not yet been completed. Annoucement of the time of the funeral and details regarding the boy's life will be published tomorrow. The river had previously caused the death of two persons, a young North Side lad of nine years and a young West Side man being recovered from the river several weeks ago. The body was turned over to the Wattawa and Urbanek Undertaking establishment by the parents. Manitowoc Herald News, Manitowoc, Wis.
