senile dementia" Buried at Evergreen Cemetery, City of Manitowoc From Bob Domagalski: Birkle, Xavier (Old Oiler) husband of Katherine Lorenz [married July 6, 1874 at Catholic Church, Charlesburg, Town of Brothertown, Calumet County] son of Joseph Birkle and Genefeva Ringwald, born Hoffstetten, Offenburg, Baden arrived in US via New York in July of 1861 operated the linseed mill in the Bull Pen. “My mother used to make me deliver a loaf of bread to Alte Ole (Old Oiler) who lived up the street and got his name because he made linseed oil. He seemed like a giant to me; his features were grotesque and he had a very large nose. He was always cooking herbs to make a black salve for his nose; later we found out he had cancer. The mill where he made the linseed oil was down the hill in what was called the Bull’s pen; the foundations are still there. In those days it used to cost $4.00 to make a gallon of good linseed oil. Alte Ole had been married at one time and he had a number of children. He and his wife did not get along. One morning as she took the cows to pasture, she kept looking back toward the mill. Suddenly it was all aflame. People said she had lit it. JOHN BOFSKE Funeral services for John Boffke (sic), 73, a resident 12 years of Manitowoc County Hospital who died Friday after a heart attack, were at 10 a.m. Saturday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc. FRIEDERICKA BREIDRUCK Fredericke Breiderick May Become County Charge Failure of a brother who is now located in Los Angeles, Cal., to pay the monthly maintenance fee for the care of Fredericke Breiderick(sic) may be the cause of placing the cost of her care onto the county, this being the alternative in case the relative cannot be prevailed upon to support her. The woman has been living with Carl Wernecke, a town of Newton farmer, and the pay for her care was provided by the brother who at the time of arrangements was made lived in Milwaukee. He is in arrears in the payment for two years back and Mr. Wernecke has given notice to probate court that he is desirous of being relieved of the care. The women is 51 years of age and has no relative except the brother. The case was continued and an endeavor will be made to get into communication with the woman's relative. LEO BRIETZMAN Leo Breitzman, 72, died Sunday after a long illness at Manitowoc County Hospital. Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and at 9 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Clement P. Kern will officiate and burial will be in Manitowoc County Cemetery. Mr. Breitzman was born at Stevensville, Door County. He never married. ANTON CICHE Kewaunee County Man Found Hanging in Room Anton Ciche, 70, a Kewaunee county patient at the county mental hospital, was found hanging from his bed, when attendants went to call him for breakfast shortly after 6 o’clock this morning. He had answered a first call earlier but when no response was received to a second call his room was entered. Ciche had tied a bedsheet around his neck and suspended himself from the bed post. He has been a patient here for 28 years. Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Urbanek and Schlei funeral home and at 9 o’clock at the St. Mary Catholic church here with the Rev. John Landowski officiating. Burial will be in the Manitowoc county cemetery. The body may be viewed at the funeral home from Monday afternoon until the time of services Tuesday morning. OTTO GRIM Otto Grimm, 78, former Reedsville resident, died early Tuesday morning at Manitowoc County Hospital where he had resided 36 years. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, with the Rev. Paul H. Blaufuss officiating. Burial will be in Manitowoc County Cemetery. Mr. Grimm was born Aug. 6, 1884, at Independence Iowa, son of the late Fred and Emma Grimm. He came to Reedsville as a young man with his parents and engaged in farming. He never married. ALBERT HABEC Albert Habeck, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Habeck of Two Rivers, died at the county hospital, where he had been a patient for twelve years, yesterday. He was born March 21, 1888 at Two Rivers, and is survived by his parents. The funeral was held this morning from the Pfeffer undertaking parlors and burial was made at the county cemetery. JOHN KELLY John Kelly, 61, died Monday at Maple Crest Sanatorium, Whitelaw. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Alverno. The Rev. He was born June 27, 1908, at Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Kelly. He never married. RUDOLPH PADHOLA Rudolph Podhula(sic), 72, of 901 Buffalo St., Manitowoc, died early Sunday. He had been hospitalized April 15 after suffering a heart attack while in a downtown Manitowoc store. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Tuesday at the Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc, the Rev. F.C. St. Clair officiating. Burial will be in the Manitowoc County Cemetery. He was born January 13, 1885 in Manitowoc, son of the late Joseph and Anna Uhlir Podhula. He never married. ALOIS POHL Alois Pohl was a cooper from Kupferhammer, near Neisse, Silesia. He arrived in America in 1894 aboard the "Moravia" from Hamburg. Alois was a nephew to the immigrant Bernhardt brothers of Door County. Alois lived in Minnesota and in Door County before he arrived in Manitowoc. He was a patient at the Manitowoc Asylum for nearly 50 years. ******** (NOTE: From researcher who sent this in: I doubt that he ever had a proper obituary, locked up as long as he was.

TILLIE STEPANI Miss Tillie Stephani (sic) 80, lifelong county resident, died Wednesday at County Hospital, Manitowoc. BOHUMIL SWERMA Bohumel Schwerma(sic), an inmate of the county asylum, died there on Saturday, Feb. 2, aged 52. Deceased is survived by his widow and four children who reside on the Eastside. The funeral was held at Manitowoc from the asylum. Deceased had been in the asylum four years. The Reporter, Fri., Feb. 25, 1924

PAUL WERTER Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc, for Paul Werter, 63(?), who died Monday night at the County Hospital. He was born in Germany in 1879 and came to the United States when a young man locating in Manitowoc, where he was employed as a painter. He never married. There are no immediate survivors.
