EMELIA ABBET Mrs. Louis Abbet, 82, of Francis Creek, lifelong resident of the county, died Tuesday afternoon at the home of her son, Ferdinand, of route 5, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Urbanek and Schlei funeral home, and at 9 o'clock at the St. Ann Catholic church, Francis Creek, the Rev. Joseph Rauch officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Cross cemetery at Mishicot. She was born Emelie Mathey in Gibson in 1866 and in 1885 was married to Mr. Abbet in Mishicot. They located on a farm north of the village which they operated for 30 years and then moved to Francis Creek. The couple observed its 60th wedding anniversary in 1945. Survivors are the husband; two sons, Ferdinand of route 5 and Edward of Two Rivers; daughter, Mrs. Otto Blaha of Two Rivers; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. FERDINAND ABBET Ferdinand L. Abbet, 83, of Menasha Avenue, Manitowoc, died Thursday at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, where he had been a patient since April 25. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Pfeffer Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Death came to Grace Abbet, wife of Ferdinand Abbet, at the family home at Gibson last night as a release from suffering after an illness of four years. KENNETH R. ADAMS Kenneth Adams, 38, of Route 1, Mishicot, died early Sunday morning in Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, following a lingering illness. LOUISE ZEDDIES AHRENS Mrs. Louise Zeddies Ahrens, 84, wife of the late John Ahrens of Mishicot, died early Saturday morning at a rest home at Porterville, Calif. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Evangelical United Brethren Church, Mishicot. The Rev. Lorenz Kern will officiate and burial will be in Mishicot Cemetery. Mrs. Ahrens was born June 2, 1883, at Two Rivers, daughter of the late Nick and Amelia Fischer Cammers. She was married to William Zeddies who died in 1921. She was married to Adolph Zeddies who died in 1945 and to Mr. Ahrens who died Sept. 22, 1963. She moved to California where she resided with a son, Adolph Zeddies, at Porterville, before moving to the rest home. She was a member of Evangelical United Brethren Church, Kempen-Staudinger-Terens Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Post 7753, and the Ladies Aid Society of the church. Survivors include three sons, Albert of Porterville, William Zeddies of Anchorage, Alaska, and Milton Zeddies of St. Paul, Minn; a daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Martha) Horn of Lodi; a brother, Fred Cammers of Olathe, Colo.; two sisters, Mrs. Cora Estes of Lynwood, Calif., and Mrs. Esther Short of Yucaipa, Calif.; 16 grandchildren and several great-grand- children. MARJORIE R. ALTEN Mrs. Marjorie Alten, 30, formerly of Mishicot, died early Sunday at the University of California of Los Angeles Hospital, Los Angeles, Calif. Mrs. Alten, nee Marjorie Kadow, was born Oct. 26, 1932, daughter of Grover and the late Nora Stueck Kadow. MARVIN ALTEN Marvin E. Alten, 103 School St., age 68, died on Sunday, July 17, 1994 at home. He was born June 22, 1926 in Chilton, son of the late Fred and Molly (Bornemann) Alten. He married Marjorie Rose Kadow on August 24, 1952. She preceded him in death on March 24, 1963. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and worked for GTE for 33 years until his retirement. He was a member of Hickoy Hills Country club and VFW Post 3153. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Terry Friederichs, Chilton; a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Tamara Alten, Chilton; four grandchildren: Nicole, Melissa and Brandon Alten and his special friend and buddy, Brooke Friedrichs; two brother brothers, Douglas Alten, Chilton; Olan Alten, Menasha; two sisters, Ruth Burbey, Two Rivers; Audrey Stecker, Menasha. CARL ALTHEN Carl Althen, 76, retired Mishicot dray line operator, died at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, after a long illness. In his earlier years he assisted his father on the farm. Later he engaged in the draying business between Mishicot, Two Rivers and Manitowoc, retiring 14 years ago. CLIFFORD AMERPOHL APPLETON—Clifford C. Amerpohl, 73, of 1737 N. Gillett St., died Tuesday morning following a lengthy illness. Born in Blanchardville, Aug. 2, 1900, he had lived in Janesville, Milwaukee and Chicago prior to moving to Appleton in 1950. He had been employed by the Cook Coffee Co., retiring in 1966. EVA AMERPOHL Eva (Last) Amerpohl, age 89, a resident of Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, died Tuesday morning, February 27, 1996, at Two Rivers Community Hospital. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 29, 1996, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Rev. Gerald Free and Rev. Glenn Unke will officiate with burial in the Mishicot Public Cemetery. She was born January 5, 1907, in the Township of Two Creeks, Manitowoc County, daughter of the late August and Minnie Kracht Last. She grew up in the Township of Two Creeks and attended the Twin Elder School at Two Creeks. She graduated from the Mishicot High School in 1924. She then attended one year at the Manitowoc County Normal Teachers College and also attended Stevens Point Teachers College. After graduation, she taught school in Two Creeks, Two Rivers, Port Edwards, Wis., Janesville, Wis., and Appleton where she retired after a total of 43 years teaching. Eva married Clifford Amerpohl, of Blanchardville, Wis., on August 8, 1948. Clifford preceded her in death December 3, 1973. Eva moved to Manitowoc in 1978. She was a member of Immanual Ev. Lutheran Church and the Ladies of Immanuel. Survivors include one step-daughter, Nancy Youse, Elk Grove, Ill.; one step- granddaughter, Robin Youse, Elk Grove, Ill. Alice was born Nov. 15, 1918 in the town of Canton, Kewaunee County, to the late Emil and Carrie Soucoup Schleis Sr. She married James Anderle on Sept. 8, 1945 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Norman. Alice along with her husband, owned and operated the Anderle Building Center in Mishicot for 37 years. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and the Altar Society of the church. She was a charter member of the Mishicot VFW Auxiliary Kempen~Staudiflger-Terefls Post #775 3. Alice was also a member of the Sunset Homemakers Club of Mishicot. She enjoyed polka music and dancing and loved traveling with her husband for many years. JAMES ANDERLE James Anderle, age 85, formerly of 430 S. Main St., Mishicot, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004 at the Hamilton Memorial Home in Two Rivers. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mishicot, with the Rev. Paul Paider officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. Jim was born on April 11, 1918 in Kewaunee County to the late Louis and Mary Selnar Anderle and has been a lifelong area resident. He served his country during World War II in the United States Army. He married the former Alice Schleis on Sept. 8, 1945 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Norman. She preceded him in death on April 2, 2002. In 1954, he and his wife purchased the Standard Lumber Company in Mishicot, which late was named the Mishicot Lumber and Supply co., and later the Anderle Building Center, until their retirement. Jim was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church where he served on various committees. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Mishicot-Tisch Mills Council #4807, and the Kempen-Staudinger-Terens VFW Post #7753, where he served as a past commander. He was a member of the Mishicot Lions club and served in the early years as a volunteer for the Mishicot Fire Department, as well as on the board in the early years for the village of Mishicot and worked on many community affairs. Jim was instrumental in establishing the former Mishicot Clinic. He was a director for the Wisconsin Retail Lumber Association, where he served as a board member for many years and was also a board member for the former Two Rivers Community Hospital. He was a member of the Lakeshore Beagles Club, as well as the Wisconsin Horse Pulling Association. He enjoyed his horses and horse pulling contests. Jim also enjoyed rabbit hunting with his beagle dogs. Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law: Alvin and Rita Anderle of Bellevue; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Daniel and Gladys Nejedlo Sr., Emil and Grace Schleis, all of Mishicot; and Gordon and Janice Pautz of Two Rives. He was a special uncle to his nieces and nephews, as well as his great-nieces and nephews. EDNA ANDERSON Mrs. Ben Anderson, 69, of 2112 Emmett St., Two Rivers, died at Two Rivers Municipal Hospital at 11 a.m., Wednesday, where she had been a patient two days. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter Lutheran Church at Mishicot, the Rev. Edward Zell officiating. Interment will be in Mishicot Public Cemetery. Mrs. Anderson, nee Edna Matherson, was born in Vasa, Finland, on June 17, 1885, a daughter of the late John and Bertha Matherson. In 1906 she immigrated to this country and took up her home at Ashland, Wis., where in 1914 she was married to Ben Anderson. After their marriage the couple moved to Odanah, Wis., where the husband worked in a lumber mill. Later the family lived at Winchester, Vilas County, and Hiles, Forest County, coming to Mishicot in 1943. Two years ago Mrs. Anderson and husband moved to Two Rivers. Besides her husband, Mrs. Anderson leaves three daughters; Mrs. Oscar Elliott of Two Rivers, Mrs. Chester Hansen of Milwaukee and Mrs. Allan Harvey of Two Rivers; a son, Rudolph Anderson of Two Rivers; four sisters, Mrs. Anna Hoglund of Iron Mountain, Mich., a twin sister Mrs. Louise Engberg of El Cerrito, Calif.; and Ina and Hanna in Finland, and and 14 grandchildren. LILLIAN (GUEX) ARNS MRS. J. ARNS, 28, DIES SATURDAY AT CHICAGO Mrs. Joseph Arns, a native of Gibson, this county, and who left here six years ago with her husband to locate at Chicago, died there on Saturday. Her maiden name was Lillian Guex and she was born in Gibson in 1903. In 1926 she married Mr. Arns, who is a member of the Chicago police force. The body arrived this afternoon from Chicago and was taken to the home of the father of the deceased, Louis Guex in Gibson. Burial will be Tuesday morning at 10 from the Holy Cross church in Mishicot with burial in the cemetery there. The funeral arrangements are in charge of A. H. Specht of Mishicot. Besides the father and husband, the deceased is survived by four brothers, Jos. And Edward of Chicago, Louis of Maribel and Ernest of Gibson and a sister, Mrs. Ben Eiserman of Maribel. ADOLPH ASSMAN Death Claims Adolph Assman Life-long Mishicot Resident Dies Wednesday Adolph Assman, 62, town of Mishicot farmer, died late yesterday at Holy Family hospital at Manitowoc after a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. from Holy Cross Catholic Church at Mishicot with the Rev. Van Bogart officiating. There will be a short service from the Specht Funeral home at Mishicot at 9 a.m.. Burial will be in the Mishicot cemetery. Mr. Assman was born March 17, 1875 on the homestead on Route 3, north-east of Mishicot. His entire life was spent on the farm there. He married Ida Sprang February 26, 1906 at St. Luke Catholic Church, Two Rivers, Wisconsin Survivors are the widow, two adopted daughters, and two brothers, William and Ira in the town of Mishicot. ALVIN ASSMAN Alvin Assman, 60, of 835 West Madison Street, Chicago, Ill., died Saturday, July 7, 1990 at Veterans Hospital, Chicago. He was born in Mishicot on Sept. 9, 1929, son of the late William and Anna Assman. He was a veteran of World War II. BEN ASSMAN Ben Assman, 68, of Rt. 1, Mishicot, died late Saturday evening November 19, 1977 in Two Rivers Community Hospital. HATTIE ASSMAN Woman Hangs Self in Barn MISHICOT-Afflicted with a nervous condition for more than two years, Mrs. Ben Assman, 39, was found dead by hanging herself in the barn on the farm home in the Town of Mishicot late Friday afternoon. The body was dicovered by her husband hanging from a rope in the barn after he had returned to the farm and found his wife missing from the residence. She died from strangulation, according to Dr. Theodore Teitgen, coroner, who with Sheriff Lester Nichols, had been called to the scene. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Specht Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church. The Rev. George Beth officiating. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Mrs. Assman, nee Hattie Patek, was born in the Town of West Kewaunee on Sept. 26, 1915, a daughter of the late Peter and Mrs. Ann Paszkiewicz Patek. On May 1, 1947 she was married at St. Hedwig Catholic Church at East Krok, Kewaunee County, to Ben Assman. After their marriage they settled on a farm in the Town of Mishicot, where she resided since. They had no children. Besides her husband and mother she leaves three sisters, Mrs. Joseph Staral of Rt. 5, Manitowoc, Mrs. George Crissey of Ladysmith, Wis., and Miss Victoria Patek of Chippewa Falls; and two brothers, Edward Patek of Rt. 2, Kewaunee, and Van Patek of Rt. 2, Two Rivers. ALICE ASSMANN Miss Alice Assmann, 72, of Route 2, Mishicot, died unexpectedly Friday evening at home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mishicot. ANNA ASSMANN Anna Assman, 98, formerly of Route 1, Mishicot, died Friday afternoon, October 17, 1986, at Hamilton Memorial Home, Two Rivers. IRA ASSMANN (d. 1965) Ira Assmann, 53, of Rt. 1, Mishicot, lifelong Town of Mishicot farmer and a former operator of a threshing outfit in the Mishicot area, died Friday night at home. He had been in failing health for more than six months. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mishicot, the Rev. David Wargull officiating. Burial will be in Mishicot Public Cemetery. Mr. Assmann was born in the Town of Mishicot, 1871, son of the late August and Catherine Kaple Assmann. He married Mary Gesser, January 23, 1905. She died in August of 1955. For more than 25 years, Mr. Assmann owned and operated a threshing outfit. He served as town assessor for 16 years and for 21 years, was on the Pleasant View School Board. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. John Kobes and Miss Alice of Rt. 1, Mishicot; three sons, Ralph and Alfred of Rt. 1, Mishicot, and Florian of Elm Grove, Wis.; and six grandchildren. IRA F. ASSMAN (d. 1967) Ira F. Assman Becomes 16th County Fatality Mishap Occurs Two Miles North of Two Rivers Two Rivers---Death struck on a Manitowoc County roadway. Wednesday after a lapse of nearly one month. Latest traffic victim was Ira F. Assman 54, of Rt 1 Mishicot, who was killed a two car crash two miles north of this city at the junction of Highway 42 and a town road. His death was the first resulting from a traffic mishap since Aug. 30. Assman died in a collision shortly after 5:30 p.m. with a station wagon. Assman was proceeding west across 42 when his car was struck in the right side by the southbound vehicle. The two vehicles came to rest in an upright position in the ditch in the southwest corner. Assman was found lying just outside of the door of his wrecked 1959 model Chevrolet car. Engaged in Farming. The sun was low in the western sky, police said and it may have temprarily affected Assman's visibility. The deceased was born in the Town of Athen, Marathon County, March 17, 1913 a son of the late William and Mrs Anna Bearna Assman. When he was a child his family brought him to a farm on Rt. 1 Mishicot. Single, he attended the Saxonburg district school in the Town of Mishicot. He was engaged in farming. Surviving are his mother, on the home farm; a sister of Two Rivers, and two brothers. WILLIAM ASSMANN William Assman Is Taken at 67 Death at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday April 7, 1948, at his home claimed William F. Assman, 67, of Route 1, Mishicot, as the result of a heart attack. He had not previously been ill. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. at the Specht funeral home, and at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic church, with the Rev. George Beth officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross cemetery at Mishicot. The body will lie in state at the Specht funeral home at Mishicot, and may be viewed there today. The rosary will be recited there Friday evening at eight o'clock. Mr. Assman was born December 15, 1881 in the town of Mishicot, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. August Assman. He spent his early life in the town of Mishicot until his marriage November 5, 1907 to the former Anna Berman of Athens, Wis., where the couple continued to reside for a short while. They returned to Mishicot 33 years ago where they operated a farm. Surviving are the widow, three sons, Benjamin and Alvin on the home farm, and Ira F., of the town of Mishicot; one daughter, Mrs. William Stone, of Two Rivers, and one brother, Ira Assman, of route 1 Mishicot. Mrs. Atwater, nee Catherine Koch, was born February 27, 1887, in the Town of Mishicot, daughter of the late Michael and Anna Lenhardt Koch. She was married about 53 years ago at Mishicot after which the couple operated farms at Two Creeks and Town of Mishicot. The family moved to Two Rivers where it resided for 15 years. After the death of her husband, she moved to Cleveland where she was married to Harmon Atwater a number of years ago. RACHEL AUGUSTINE Rachel A. Augustine, age 50, of 1420 Kings Lane, Town of Mishicot, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mishicot, with the Rev. Paul Paider officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. Rachel was born Jan. 2, 1954 in Two Rivers, to John and Marie Brusky Tess, and has been a lifelong area resident. She was a graduate of Mishicot High School with the class of 1972 and attended school in Sheboygan to become an LPN. Rachel married Gordon Augustine on March 20, 1975 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mishicot. She enjoyed gardening, and loved her animals, especially her dog Sheba. She is survived by her husband: Gordon; two sons and one daughter-in-law: Cory and Kelly Augustine, Two Rivers; Chad Augustine, Town of Mishicot; her parents: John and Marie Tess, Mishicot; one brother and sister-in-law: Terry and Sara Tess, Combined Locks; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Linda and Donald Pekarek, Two Rivers; Diane and John Salzman, Manitowoc; Cheryl and Dale Kornely, Eagle River. She is further survived by her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Maynard and Elaine Augustine, Mishicot; and by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Dennis Augustine, Calif.; Kenneth and Lynn Augustine, Tennessee; Michael and Debbie Augustine, Oshkosh; and by nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; a special friend, Collette Dvorak; and by her special pet dog, Sheba. COREY ALLEN AVERY Corey A. Avery, age 16, of 12928 Avery Road, town of Gibson, passed away Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, as a result of an automobile accident. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at 2:30 p.m. at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Two Rivers, with the Rev. Roberta Thomson officiating. Burial will be in the Mishicot Public Cemetery. Corey was born April 30, 1982 in Manitowoc to Charles and Donna (Schroeder) Avery. He was a junior student at Mishicot High School. Corey worked at Fox Hills Resort in the kitchen during the winter and in the summer worked in maintenance on the golf course. He enjoyed listening to music, especially country western. Corey is survived by his parents, Charles and Donna Avery, town of Gibson; one brother, Christopher Avery at home; three sisters, Melissa Avery at home, Carla Avery of Kewaunee and Shannon Thalheim of Two Rivers; his maternal grandmother, Lucille Schroeder of Escanaba, Mich.; his paternal grandparents, Allan and Delores Avery, town of Gibson; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
