ANNA HOCHKAMMER 89 Year Old Grandmother Is Killed In Road Accident Mrs. Hochkammer of Newton Victim An 89 year old grandmother was killed and her 10 day old grandson critically injured in an accident on a town road, a mile north of the junction of highway 141 and county trunk C in Newton, shortly after 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Dead is Mrs. Anna M. Hochkammer of route 3 Manitowoc. Her grandson, Russell Hackmann, whom she was holding in her lap at the time of the crash, is in critical condition at Holy Family hospital. He suffered severe head injuries. The infant’s parents, Mr. And Mrs. Elton Hackmann of route 1, Newton, escaped with cuts and bruises. Mr. Hackmann, 30, was driving the car in which his mother in law, wife and son were passengers. According to Coroner Theodore Teitgen the Hackmanns went to the home of unidentified relatives where Mrs. Hochkammer was living to bring her to the Hackmann home. A mile north of highway 141 and the First Rooster church, the south bound Hackmann car met a northbound one operated by William Gosscheusch, 69, of route 3 Manitowoc. The left fronts of the two cars sideswiped on the gravel road, Doctor Teitgen said. The Grosscheusch vehicle went off the road and was facing in the same direction after the impact. Only its left front was damaged. Grosscheusch was unhurt. After the impact, the Hackmann car swerved in the gravel, plunged into the ditch, and rolled end over end several times. It was demolished. The Meihsner ambulance was called to take the injured to Holy Family hospital. Mrs. Hochkammer was dead on arrival there. County Traffic Officer Jack Jackson investigated at the scene. Tentative funeral arrangements for Mrs. Hochkammer have been set for 2 p.m. Monday at the Salem Ebenezer Reformed church in Newton, Rev. K.J. Stuebbe officiating.
