JAMES BEHNKE Find Bodies Of Couple In Parked Auto KIEL (Special) – A young couple died early today in a car parked in a farm driveway off Highway 149, a half-mile west of here. The victims were identified as Miss Lois D. Dedering, 21, of 704 1st St., Kiel, and James Behnke, 21, of Reedsville. Leroy A. Hughes of Appleton, Calumet County coroner, said the deaths apparently were due to accidental carbon monoxide poisoning. He said he would not make a final ruling on the cause of death pending completion of a laboratory analysis later in the day. Engine Running The bodies of the young people were found about 6:40 a.m. by Robert Nett of Rt. 2, Kiel, who investigated when the Behnke car blocked the driveway to the Alvin Nett farm home. He said the bodies were slumped over in the front seat of the car. The engine of the car still was running and the windows were closed. The coroner reported that the couple had been dead for “an hour or two” before the bodies were discovered. A physician who was summoned to the scene notified Calumet County Sheriff C. J. Kosmosky at 7:30. The sheriff ordered the Behnke car to be taken to a garage at Kiel for inspection to determine whether there were any mechanical defects in the car’s exhaust system. Mrs. Alvin Nett first noticed the parked car in the driveway when she awakened at 6:10. Her son investigated a half hour later when he was unable to drive past the car on his way to work. Behnke’s identity was not determined for several hours. Only identification in the car was a bowling ball on the back seat which bore his name. You could find her speaking Bohemian with her siblings at Burich Family Reunions or watch her child-like excitement on Christmas Eve as she opened her presents as fast as she could no matter what age she was. Helen's faith was very important to her and she was a member of St. Agnes Parish in Green Bay since 1957. Helen also was a huge sports fan. She spent much time watching NBA basketball, golf and Tiger Woods, and, of course, her beloved Packers. Baking and cooking were Helen's specialties and it didn't matter if she was cooking for a large crowd at the Tree Farm or baking kolaches, rolls, or her famous apple pie to share with others. There was nothing more comforting than a bowl of Helen's chicken dumpling soup. JOSEPH JERABEK Jerabek, Caught in a Feed Cutter, Dies of Injuries Farm Hand Caught in Machine at Work on Farm Near Reedsville Joseph F. Jerabek, 21, a farm hand and son of Joseph Jerabek Sr., of 902 South 14th street, died Sunday afternoon at the Holy Family hospital, nearly eight hours after he was mangled by a feed cutter on the farm of Carl Hillmann, a mile south of Reedsville. Coroner Theodore Teitgen said Jerabek, employed by Mr. Hilmlann, was working alone on the cutter Sunday morning, feeding the corn into the many bladed machine. It became stuck and he attempted to loosen the stalks. The blades started suddenly, and amputated one arm at the elbow and pulled Jerabek into the knives. Mr. Hilman told the coroner that he had given orders to Jerabek not to operate the cutter unless someone else was with him. Hillmann had gone into town, and during his absence the accident happened. The latter had just returned to the farm home, when Jerabek, who managed to free himself from the feed cutter, ran the 250 feet into the house. This was shortly after 8:30 a.m. Brought to the hospital here in a farm truck, Jerabek died shortly after 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon. Coroner Teitgen announced there would be no inquest. Mr. Jerabek was born on the farm home in Rockland in 1928, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Jerabek Sr. He was single and in recent months has been employed on the Hillmann farm.
