CARL HEINS Death Thursday morning last week of Charles Heins, one of the best known residents of Village Kiel in our county, from a heart attack. Mr. Heins was 76 years old and had formerly enjoyed the best of health. He came to Kiel in 1857 and established a mercantile business which will be 50 years old this year. Prior to that he was employed in Chicago by his brother-in- law Rudolph Buchner. His wife preceded him in death many years ago and he is survived by 7 children –4 daughters and 3 sons. He was president of the Kiel Bank, treasurer of the Wooden Ware Co., and a long-time member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon. Der Nord Westen, 04 July 1907 ********* Charles Heins(sic), a pioneer of the village of Kiel, died at his residence at that village last Wednesday from an attack of heart failure, aged seventy-six years. Mr. Heins was largely interested in the industrial progress of Kiel and was president of its bank and also of the Woodenware Company, located there. He came to Wisconsin about 1850 and settled first at New Holstein and shortly afterward he removed to the village of Kiel, where he established a general store. He is survived by eight children, among them Mrs. A. W. Dassler and Mrs. J. B. Lann, both residing at Kiel. His wife died several years ago. His funeral was held last Sunday afternoon. Manitowoc Pilot, July 4, 1907 ********* Chas. Heins Is Dead A Pioneer of Kiel Passed Away after a Brief Illness A telephone message was received in this city Wednesday evening announcing the death of Charles Heins, one of the prominent and influential citizens of the neighboring village of Kiel. Mr. Heins was taken ill on Tuesday evening with heart trouble. Wednesday forenoon he seemed to rally from the affliction and his family had hopes that he would recover. Later in the afternoon he had another sinking spell and death followed. Those who have visited Kiel in the past half century have known Chas. Heins. He was born in Holstein-Schleswig, Germany, seventy-six years ago. When a young man, in the year 1850, he came to this country and located in what is now the village of Kiel. Shortly afterwards he engaged in the mercantile business and continued in that line until death called him. Some thirty years ago his wife died. He was a man endowed with a large degree of generosity and, as is usually the case with the large hearted man, he enjoyed the company of his friends and always gave visitors to that hamlet a warm welcome to his home. To know the man was to appreciate his many good qualities. He was devoted to his children and the happy home that he presided over has now been turned to one of sorrow. His death will be deeply regretted not only in Manitowoc county, but all through eastern Wisconsin where he was widely known. He leaves four sons and four daughters to mourn the death of a true father and friend. His funeral will be held on Sunday afternoon. (6-26-1907 handwritten on the obituary-no newspaper named)
