BRENDA K. HILAND Brenda K. Hiland, age 43, of Kiel, died Tuesday evening, August 4, 2009. She was the former Brenda Starks, born October 6, 1965 in Appleton, daughter of Dean and Karen Morgenroth Starks. On December 13, 2003 she married Clayton Hiland at First Presbyterian Church, Kiel. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Kiel. Brenda enjoyed scrap booking, baking and taking care of her animals. ADELINA HILDEBRANDT Aged Resident Of Kiel Passes Away Wednesday Kiel—Mrs. Adeline Caroline Hildebrandt, 82, passed away here at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Herman Timreck, 920 Third street, following a two weeks’ illness. Mrs. Hildebrandt, nee Pollex, was born in Pomerania, Germany on January 24, 1849. She was married to Carl Hildebrandt in Germany on March 11, 1870. On May 17, 1894 the couple came to America and located in Kiel, where Mr. Hildebrandt was employed at the Kiel Furniture company and also as a mason contractor. He preceded his wife in death on September 13, 1912. The couple had ten children, two of whom died in their youth. Those who survive Mrs. Hildebrandt are three daughters, Mrs. Herman Timrick, Kiel; Mrs. Otto Koepp and Mrs. E. Mueller, Milwaukee and five sons, Paul and Otto Hildebrandt of Kiel; Reinhold and Richard of New Holstein and Herman of Sheboygan. Eighteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and one brother, Herman Pollex in Germany, also survive. The funeral will be held Monday at the Timrick home in Kiel and at 2 o’clock at St. Peters Reformed church. Rev. E. L. ANNA HILDEBRANDT (d. 1957) Mrs. Anna Hildebrandt, 73, a former resident of Kiel, died unexpectedly of a heart attack at her home at 2322 Prospect St., New Holstein, early Saturday afternoon. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, the Rev. E. L. Worthman, former pastor of the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church, Kiel, officiating. Burial will be in the Kiel Cemetery. She was born Oct. 6, 1883, at Elkhart Lake, daughter of the late Henry and Ann Bartles Wittrock, and moved to Kiel with her parents when she was a child. She was educated in Kiel schools. On April 18, 1907, she was married to Reinhold Hildebrandt and the couple lived in Kiel until 1918, moving to New Holstein where her husband was employed in industry. He died in July of 1949. Survivors include a son, Lester of New Holstein; two sisters, Mrs. Edward Krostag Sr. and Mrs. Lena Jochmann of Kiel; and a brother, Henry of Kiel. ANNA HILDEBRANDT (d. 1976) Mrs. Anna Hildebrandt, 86, formerly of 2120 Broadway St., New Holstein, died Tuesday afternoon at the Willowdale Nursing Home, New Holstein, where she had been a resident since 1971. The former Anna Drews, she was born in Kiel on April 30, 1889, a daughter of the late Julius and Mary Gruendemann Drews. On May 28, 1910, she married Richard F. Hildebrandt in Kiel. He died Feb. 24, 1965. The couple made their home in New Holstein since their marriage. Surviving are one son, Frederick, Chilton; one daughter, Mrs. Emmett (Irene) Wagner of R. 1, Malone; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, one brother and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Erbe-Evjen Funeral Home, New Holstein, with the Rev. Albert K. CARL HILDEBRANDT Carl Hildebrand (sic), age 65, a resident of Kiel, died of apoplexy at Born's sanitarium, Sheboygan, Saturday afternoon. He had been taking treatments at the sanitarium where he arrived Sept. 10. Saturday he went for a walk of two or three blocks with a companion and returning sat down in the large hall of the sanitarium. A few minutes later he suddenly straightened out and when Col. Born reached him, the man was dead. Mr. Hilderand (sic) was a retired farmer. He was not known here. The remains were taken to Kiel for burial, and the funeral will be held at Kiel, it is expected. CLARA HILDEBRANDT Clara I. Hildebrandt, 90, of Medford, formerly of Kiel, died Thursday afternoon, December 5, at Memorial Nursing Home in Medford, where she had resided since July of 1985. She is the former Clara Hagenow born on April 14, 1901, in the town of New Holstein, daughter of Christian and Lena Rau Hagenow. On November 1, 1923, she married Oscar H. Hildebrandt in Kiel. He preceded her in death on March 9, 1986. The couple farmed in the Town of Russell and the town of Rhine, before moving to Kiel in 1960. Clara had been a life-long member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Kiel. Survivors include one son, Dr. Oscar (Mary) Hildebrandt, Medford, three grand- children; and one brother, Ray (Roma) Hagenow, Kiel. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother and two sisters. Funeral services were held on Saturday at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel, with the Rev. Raymond C. HENRIETTE HILDEBRANDT Mrs. Paul Hildebrandt, 87, of 912 Fourth St., Kiel, died at her home early today. The former Henrietta Haarmann, she was born March 10, 1872, in the Town of Centerville, a daughter of the late Frederick and Maria Haarmann. At the age of 5, her parents moved to a farm in the Town of Russell. On April 8, 1901, she was married at St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reformed Church in the Town of Russell. The couple operated the Haarmann home farm in the town until 1927 when they moved to Kiel. Mrs. Hildebrandt was a member of St. Paul’s Church and also belonged to its Ladies Aid Society. The couple observed their 55th wedding anniversary in 1956. Survivors are her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Elmer (Meta) Brickbauer of Kiel; two sons, Oscar of Town of Rhine, Hugo of New Holstein; five grandchildren and four great-grandsons. LESTER A. HILDEBRANDT Lester A. Hildebrandt, 62, of 2113 Railroad St., New Holstein, died Wednesday at Veterans Administration Hospital, Tomah. He had been a patient there since November. He was born July 24, 1909 at Kiel, son of the late Reinhold and Anna Wittrock Hildebrandt. As a youth he moved to New Holstein with his parents, where he attended public school. Mr. Hildebrandt served with the U.S. Army in World War II in the European and African sectors. He was employed at the Lauson Co., New Holstein; Kiel Wooden Ware Co., and Silver Moon processors, New Holstein. Mr. Hildebrandt was a member of the New Holstein American Legion Post 124. MINNIE HILDEBRANDT Mrs. Otto Hildebrandt, 75, of 716 6th St., Kiel, died suddenly Sunday in Los Angeles, Calif. She had been visiting her brother, Hugo Prueter, and his family for several weeks. The former Minnie Prueter, she was born July 3, 1891, in the Town of Schleswig, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Herman Prueter, and was married May 21, 1915, to Otto E. Hildebrandt. He died in January, 1965. She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel; the Frauenverein of the church, the Kiel Garden Club and the General Arts Homemaker Club. OSCAR H. HILDEBRANDT Oscar H. Hildebrandt, 84, Foundry Road, Kiel, died Sunday at his son’s home in Medford, where he had lived for the past eight months. Mr. Hildebrandt was born Jan. 29, 1902, in the town of Russell, the son of Paul and Henrietta Harrmon(sic) Hildebrandt. He attended school in the town of Russell. He was married to Clara Hagenow on Nov. 1, 1923, in Kiel. They farmed in the Town of Russell and the Town of Rhine until 1960 when they moved to Kiel. Mr. Hildebrandt worked for the Kohler co. until 1967 and then at the Kiel Woodenware Co. until retirement in 1972. Mr. Hildebrandt was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ, Kiel and Kiel Senior Citizens. For many years he was a member of the Harrison School Board in the town of Rhine. Survivors include his wife of Medford; a son, Dr. Oscar A. Hildebrandt of Medford; three grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Elmer Brickbauer of Kiel. He was preceded in death by a brother. OTTO E. HILDEBRANDT Funeral services for Otto E. Hildebrandt, 75, who died Saturday morning at Calumet Hospital in Chilton, are scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel. The Rev. Vernon E. At the age of four, he came to the United States with his parents, coming directly to Kiel, where he attended the public school. His marriage to Minnie Preuter, Town of Schleswig, took place on May 21, 1915. The couple located in Kiel. For 16 years he served as custodian of Kiel Public School and later was employed by H. G. Weber Co., Kiel, until his retirement nine years ago. He was a member of St. Peter's UCC, Kiel. Besides his wife, he is survived by one brother, Richard of New Holstein.
PAUL HILDEBRANDT Paul Hildebrandt, 83, of 912 4th St., Kiel, died at Calumet Memorial Hospital late Monday morning. His death followed by less than a month the death of his wife, Henrietta, who passed away May 9. Mr. Hildebrandt was born in Germany June 10, 1874, a son of Carl and Adeline Palleck Hildebrandt, and came to this country with his parents when he was 20 years old. The family settled at Kiel. On April 8, 1901, Mr. Hildebrandt was married to Henrietta Haarmann of the Town of Russell at St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reformed Church in the township. They operated the Haarmann homestead farm in the Town of Russell until 1927 when they moved to Kiel. Mr. Hildebrandt was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reformed Church. He leaves two sons, Oscar, Town of Rhine, and Hugo, of New Holstein; a daughter, Mrs. Elmer (Meta) Brickbauer, Kiel; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard of New Holstein, and Otto of Kiel, and one sister, Mrs. Bertha Koepp, Niles, Mich. REINHOLD W. HILDEBRANDT Reinhold William Hildebrandt, 66, of New Holstein, died at his home this morning after a heart attack. A native of Stolp, Germany, he was born March 16, 1883, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hildebrandt, and came to the United States with his parents when he was 11 years old. The family settled in Kiel, and Mr. Hildebrandt was confirmed at the Reformed church there on April 3, 1898, by the Rev. John Roeck. He was married to Anna Wittrock, of Kiel, April 18, 1907. Survivors are the wife; one son, Lester, at home; three brothers, Richard of New Holstein, Paul and Otto of Kiel; and one sister, Mrs. Otto Koepp, of Wauwatosa. RICHARD HILDEBRANDT Richard F. Hildebrandt, 78, of 2120 Broadway, New Holstein, died unexpectedly of a heart attack at his home at 8:30 a.m. today. Mr. Hildebrandt, a resident of New Holstein for 50 years, had been a machinist for 60 years, most of the time with the former Lawson Engine Co., and more recently with the Lawson division of Tecumseh Products Co. A native of Germany, he was born April 6, 1886, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hildebrandt. He came to this country with his parents when a child of 6 years. He married Annie Drews at Kiel, May 28, 1910. He was a member of the International Machinists Union. Surviving are his wife; a son, Fred, Chilton; two daughters, Mrs. Robert Schwalenberg (Adeline) and Mrs. Irene Haney, New Holstein; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. ADOLPH HINGISS Former Mayor Dies at Age of 84; Long Active in Business Death came to Adolph Hingiss Saturday at a convalescent home in Sheboygan, where he had been a patient for a few weeks. He reached the age of 84. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church with the Rev. E. L. Worthman in charge. Burial was made in the Kiel cemetery. Mr. Hingiss was a member of the congregation and also of the Churchman’s Brotherhood. Pallbearers were William, Edward and Henry Hingiss, Edgar Jacobi and Reuben and Alfred Fischer, all nephews of the deceased. Mr. Hingiss was very active in the civic life of the city, serving as mayor from 1929 to 1939. It was during his mayoralty that many of Kiel’s streets and alleys were paved, and he was instrumental in securing land along the Sheboygan river to be made into a park area. He served as alderman from 1927 to 1929 and also represented Kiel on the county board for a few terms. He was a charter member of the Kiel Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Hingiss was born in Centerville in 1868 and in 1891 married Miss Augusta Fischer. They located on the homestead farm near Cleveland and in 1914 moved to Kiel. He opened a garage and also engaged in the farm implement business, which he operated until 1922 when he rented it to his son, August, and son-in-law, Ben Bessler, and engaged in the real estate business until 1929. In 1930 he returned to the garage business and formed the corporation of Hingiss and Bessler Company, which expanded from Kiel to Chilton and Hilbert. He retired from active business in 1936. Mrs. and Mrs. Hingiss observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1941. Mrs. Hingiss died in 1948. Survivors are three sons, August, and Richard of Chilton and Alfred of Kiel; three daughters, Mrs. Ben Bessler of Kiel, Mrs. Hugo Sommers of Madison, and Mrs. Lewis Towers of Mishicot; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Mr. Hingiss is also survived by a sister and two brothers. The sister is Mrs. Mary Brock of Crete, Illinois. ALFRED F. HINGISS Alfred F. Hingiss, Sr. age 82, of 514 6th Street, Kiel, died Sunday March 13 at Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center. He was born February 24, 1906, in the Town of Centerville, Manitowoc County, the youngest son of the late Adolph G. and Augusta (Fischer) Hingiss. In 1914, he moved with his family to Kiel, where his older brother August and his father, Adolph started the automobile business then known as Kiel Garage or Adolph Hingiss and Son. He attended Kiel Public Schools and graduated from Kiel High School in 1923. He attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison from 1923 to 1928 studying Business Administration. In 1929 he entered the family business then known as Hingiss and Bessler Co. Inc. At that time there were stores at 512 Fremont Street, Kiel and 43 West Main Street, Chilton. In 1947, Mr. Hingiss bought out the shares held by A. Ben Bessler and the corporation was then named Hingiss, Inc. Two more stores were opened. They were Hingiss Implement, Inc., 61 East Chestnut Street, Chilton in 1948, and Hingiss Chevrolet sales, 2204 Calumet Drive, New Holstein in 1950. In 1958, Mr. Hingiss consolidated his holdings into Hingiss, Inc. at Kiel. The other stockholders retained the other three stores. Retirement came in 1967 when the Chevrolet Oldsmobile Agency at Kiel was sold to Vogel Chevrolet Oldsmobile, Inc. On July 27, 1935, he was married to Helen Jordan, a Kiel schoolteacher, at Northwood, Iowa. They had two children, (Private). Helen died December 5, 1965. On July 25, 1967, he married Helen Kissinger of Kiel at Woodstock, Illinois. (Survivors omitted for privacy). AUGUSTA HINGISS The passing of Mrs. Adolph Hingiss, aged 77, was a shock to the citizens of Kiel Saturday morning, when news of her death circulated in the community. She had suffered a stroke a few days previously, and passed away at her home early Saturday morning. The deceased, nee Augusta Fischer, was born in the town of Centerville March 25, 1871. She was married to Adolph Hingiss on April 14, 1891, and the couple settled on a farm in the town of Centerville. In 1914 the family moved to Kiel, where Mr. Hingiss built a garage and went into business. She has been very active in the Frauenverein of the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church. Survivors are her husband; three daughters. Mrs. Ben A (Linda) Bessler of this city, Mrs. Hugo H. (Emma) Sommers of Madison, Mrs. L. N. (Esther) Towers of Elgin, Ill.; three sons; August and Richard of Chilton, and Alfred in this city; two sisters, Mrs. Theresa Goeters, and Mrs. William Meyer of Sheboygan; two brothers, William and August Fischer of Cleveland; 11 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. One son and three sisters have preceded her in death. Funeral services were held this Tuesday at the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church, with Rev. E. L. Worthman officiating. She was married to Alfred Hingiss July 27, 1935, at Northwood, Iowa. Mrs. Hingiss was a member and past president of the Kiel Study Club, an Eighth District board member and Manitowoc County Chairman of the Federation of Women’s Clubs, past treasurer of the Band Mothers, a charter member of the Den Mothers, Better Films Council and the Kiel Order of Eastern Star, and of the Plymouth Chapter, Daughter of American Revolution. HELEN HINGISS (d. 2012) Helen Hingiss, age 92 formerly of Kiel and a resident of Libby's House Chilton died Wednesday evening, June 20, 2012. She was the former Helen Kissinger born January 22, 1920 in Kiel, daughter of the late William & Minnie (Fritzemeier) Kissinger. Helen was a 1938 graduate of Kiel High School. She trained at Michael Reese Hospital, Chicago from 1939-1940. She then worked at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital from 1941-1956 in Nursery Care. In 1956 she was employed in the office of Kiel Bottling Works till 1967. On July 25, 1967 she married Alfred F. Hingiss Sr. in Woodstock, IL. Alfred preceded her in death on March 13, 1988. Helen was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, Kiel and the Kiel Garden Club. She also was a founding member of the Kiel Historical Society, serving as President for a term and also served on the board for many years. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Jean Kissinger Pfeiffer, New Holstein, one nephew, Michael Kissinger, Kiel, one niece, Mary (Richard) Thomson, Freedom, PA, & great nephews, Michael Thomson, Matthew (Katie) Thomson. She is further survived by step children, Alfred Hingiss Jr, Marion, OH, Susan Gottsacker, Reno, NV other relatives & friends. She was preceded in death by one sister, Louise Cereny and one brother, Lloyd Kissinger. RICHARD HINGISS Funeral services will be held Saturday for Richard W. Hingiss, 78, of route 2, Kiel, who died Wednesday night at the Calumet Homestead, New Holstein. The Rev. Francis Kerscher, pastor, will celebrate the funeral Mass at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. Burial will be in the Kiel Cemetery. He was born June 18, 1900, at Cleveland, a son of Adolph and Augusta Fischer Hingiss. He attended the district school. On Nov. 5, 1955 he married Margaret Harkins Meyer at New Holstein. The couple lived in New Holstein until 1967 when they moved to their present home. He was a mechanic at Hingiss Chevrolet Garage, Chilton, until retiring in 1963. Mr. Hingiss was a member of SS. Peter and Paul church and its Holy Name Society. ALBERT HINZ Albert Richard Hinz, 59, died suddenly early today at his home, 1003 Seventh street, Kiel. He had been in ill health for the past two months. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hinz, the deceased was born May 7, 1889, in the town of Rantoul. He was married to Marie Ortlett of Rantoul township at Trinity Lutheran church, Kiel, on May 4, 1915. Until three years ago when the couple moved to Kiel to make their home, Mr. Hinz operated a number of pea factories in Calumet county. Since 1945 he was employed at the Stoelting Brothers company plant at Kiel. Survivors are the widow; one daughter, Marion, at home; two sons, Elmer, Mt. Calvary, and Melvin, Random Lake; four brothers, Emil and Carl, Town Rantoul, and Richard and Gerhard, Appleton, and four sisters, Mrs. August Schroeder and Mrs. George Schroeder, Chilton, Mrs. Henry Luedke, Cato, Wis., and Mrs. Leonard Boetcher, Brillion. MARIE HINZ Funeral services for Mrs. Marie Hinz, 79, formerly of 1421 S. 16th St., who died Thursday at Sunny Ridge, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Nickel’s Funeral Home. The Rev. The former Marie Ortlepp was born in the Town of Rantoul (Calumet County) on Dec. 12, 1890, a daughter of the late Gottfried and Marie Ortlepp. She was baptized and confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church there. On May 4, 1915, she was married to Albert Hinz. He died in 1948. Mrs. Hinz worked for several years at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital and retired in 1965. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Survivors include two sons, Elmer of Valders and Melvin of Sheboygan; a daughter, Mrs. Roger (Marion) Lenz, of Black River; and 15 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandchild; six brothers, and six sisters. One brother, Richard, died on Tuesday of this week. A memorial fund has been established in Mrs. Hinz’s name for the St. Paul Lutheran Church renovation fund. She was 70 years old. Mrs. Koch was born April 7, 1877, in Rantoul and was married to Emil Koch on Oct. 17, 1897. She was a charter member of the Trinity church in Rantoul and served as secretary of the Ladies’ Aid society of that parish for 24 years. Her husband preceded her in death in 1944. Surviving are a son, Alfred, and a daughter, Mrs. George Redig, both of Rantoul; two brothers, Max and Richard, both of Potter; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Hass of New Holstein, Mrs. Wm Schnuell of Charlestown and Mrs. Albert Hintz of Kiel, and eight grandchildren. JOHN HOEKSTRA John B. Hoekstra, 78, 1806 Harrison St., New Holstein, died Monday evening unexpectedly at home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel. The Rev. Newton Barrett, assistant pastor of St. Peter United Church of Christ, Kiel, will officiate and burial will be at Kiel Cemetery. Mr. Hoekstra was born July 22, 1891, in the Netherlands, son of the late Bartel and Jennie Hoff Hoekstra. He came to this country in 1913 and farmed near New Holstein. He married Alvina Schicker of Kiel Aug. 11, 1928. The couple farmed near New Holstein until 1949 and then moved to Kiel. They resided there until 1959, then moved back to New Holstein. Mr. Hoekstra was employed at A.T. Hipke Canning Co. the past 20 years. His wife died in 1959. Survivors include three sons, Capt. ALVIN C.E. HOLLENSTEINER Alvin C. Hollensteiner, 80, pioneer resident of Kiel died at his Chicago home Monday. He had been a resident of Chicago for about 44 years. He was in charge of the Chicago warehouse of the Kiel Woodenware Company at one time. Funeral services will be held from the Meiselwitz Funeral home Thursday afternoon. The Rev. Allen L. Bowe will be in charge. Burial will be made in the Kiel cemetery. He was born in Kiel, January 9, 1874. He parents operated a general store here. He is survived by his wife, the former Louise Mesch, and a son, Norman of Chicago. There are two grandchildren. FRANZ HOLLENSTEINER Again the grim reaper has taken another of our old German residents, in that on Sunday morning Mr. Franz Hollensteiner died at his home. The deceased, even though he had reached a high age, had always enjoyed a robust body and a lively soul until about three weeks ago when he became ill with influenza, which turned into pneumonia, which caused his death. Mr. Hollensteiner was born on January 4, 1823 in Wuste, Lippe-Detmold and had reached the age of 80 years, 2 months and 16 days. In 1854 Mr. Hollensteiner came with his surviving wife to America and first settled in Franklin where he worked at the Arpke grinding mill for many years. Thereafter he worked for a long time at the grinding mill of A.P. Lyman in Sheboygan Falls and then came to Millhome in 1863 where he erected a grinding mill. A few years later he sold the mill and moved to Dundee, Fond du Lac County where he also built a grinding mill. From there he moved to a farm in Eldorado, which he worked until about seven years ago to Kiel where he now died. Besides his deeply grieving wife who is very ill, the deceased is survived by five sons; namely August, Franklin, Walter and Arthur in Montana and Emmerich in California and one daughter Alwine, Mrs. D. Sheldon who lives in Montana, also two sisters, who live in Iowa and a brother, Simon in Kiel, as well as seven grandchildren. KATHERINE HOLLENSTEINER CALLED BY DEATH Kiel relatives received the news on Monday of the death of Mrs. Katherine Hollensteiner, which occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Laura Schmidt, at Champaign, Ill., that day. Death came after a lingering illness, due to the infirmities of old age. The deceased, nee Arnold, was born in Hessen-Darmstadt, Germany, in 1846, and came to America at the age of two years with her parents, who settled in this section. She was married in 1865 to Simon Hollensteiner, who was the leading merchant in Kiel for many years; he preceded her in death a number of years ago. Three children were born of the marriage: Edwin, connected with the Koehring Machine Co. of Milwaukee, Alvin, branch manager of the Kiel Wooden- ware Co. at Chicago, and Mrs. Laura Schmidt of Champaign, Ill. The body was brought to Kiel on Wednesday evening and taken to the Meiselwitz undertaking rooms, from where the funeral will take place this Thursday, afternoon, with interment in the Kiel cemetery. NORMAN HOLLENSTEINER Norman Hollensteiner, 86 of Chicago, Ill., died Wednesday morning, January 23, 1991, in Chicago. He was born October 16, 1904, in Chicago, son of the late Alvin and Louise Mesch Hollensteiner. He attended Lane High School, in Chicago and was a graduate of Northwestern University. He married the former Lucille Harkins on December 29, 1930. He was a Chicago sales manager for the Diament Company. His wife preceded him in death on August 31, 1974. S. HOLLENSTEINER On December 2, 1865 Mr. Hollensteiner was united in marriage to Katherine Arnold, born in Hesse-Darmstadt, and in 1843 came to America as a two-year-old child. The marriage was blessed with three children, namely: Edwin in Milwaukee, Alvin in Chicago, and Laura, now Mrs. Hugo Schmidt living in Champaign, Illinois. On December 2, 1915 the couple celebrated, in good health, their Golden Wedding Anniversary, with their circle of friends. The deceased leaves behind, his wife, his three grown children, and five grandchildren. The burial took place on Wednesday afternoon, with Pastor Rech officiating at the Kiel Cemetery. (notation on article that his first name is Simon) ********** The funeral of Simon Hollensteiner, of Kiel, who died at his home Sunday evening, will be held in that village from the German Reformed church, interment being made in the Kiel cemetery, the Rev. William Rech officiating. The late Simon Hollensteiner was very well known in this county, having been a figure of considerable importance in county affairs. He was born in Germany on March 2, 1844, and came to America in 1855, directly to this county where he worked on a farm. He later acquired land in the county and started a sawmill at Millhome in 1863. He also started a general store which he ran for 2 years. This store is still in existence. He was at Millhome for 9 years when he moved to Rhine Center where he opened up another general store which he conducted for 12 years. In 1888 he moved to Kiel where he entered into the merchant business, also building a grain elevator and warehouse. He was very successful in this line up to the time of his retirement, which occurred 6 years ago. He was prominent in politics, having served as supervisor from Town Schleswig, clerk of Town Rhine, ? years as President of Kiel, and he also served as postmaster of Kiel under the Cleveland administration. He was a trustee of the village of Kiel at the time of his death. He was married in 1865 to Catharine Arnold and three children resulted from this union, Edwin, of Milwaukee; Alwin of Chicago, and Laura, now Mrs. Hugo Schmidt, of Champagne, Ill. BERTHA HOLZMANN Mrs. Holzmann is Summoned Sunday at Hospital Here Kiel – Mrs. John Holzmann, aged 71, died at St. Nicholas hospital at Sheboygan, Sunday, at 2 p.m., after having been a patient there since June 5. Mrs. Holzmann, nee Bertha Schnueller, was born in the town of Herman Nov. 18, 1863, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Schnueller. On Jan. 18, 1887, she was united in marriage to John Holzmann of the town of Rhine. The couple located on a farm near Kiel, residing there for one year and then moving to the city of Kiel, where they made their home for the past 47 years. Besides her husband, Mrs. Holzmann is survived by a niece and nephew, who were reared by Mr. and Mrs. Holzmann from the time they were small children. They are Mrs. Philip Sullivan of Milwaukee, and Conrad Holzmann of Sheboygan. Other survivors are two grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Emma Wendling of Kiel, and three brothers, Fred and August, who reside near Kiel and Simon of Waukon, Iowa. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the C. J. Meiselwitz Funeral Home and at 2 p.m. at St. Peter Reformed church of which Mrs. Holzmann was a faithful member. The Rev. E. L. In 1888 Mr. and Mrs. Holzmann moved to their present home on South Fifth street, where they have since resided. JOHN HOLZMANN John Holzmann, Kiel Resident, is Summoned Today Kiel – John Holzmann, 87, of S. Fifth and Broadway streets, Kiel, passed away early this morning at St. Nicholas hospital, Sheboygan, where he had been confined for the past two weeks. His marriage to Miss Bertha Schnuelle of Town Herman was performed Jan. 20, 1887, and since that time the couple has resided in Kiel. Prior to his retirement 10 years ago, Mrs. Holzmann was employed as a teamster for the Kiel Wooden Ware company. Survivors include two children, Conrad, Sheboygan, and Mrs. Phillip (Annie) Sullivan, Milwaukee; several grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews in this vicinity. ALMA GESSERT HORN Mrs. Alma Horn, 71, of 931 Sixth St., Kiel, died Friday evening at Memorial Hospital, Sheboygan, where she had been a patient 10 days. Mrs. Horn was born Alma Fluhr Aug. 3, 1889, in the Town of Schleswig, Manitowoc County, daughter of the late Frederick and Catherine Balz Fluhr. She was baptized and confirmed in St. John Reformed church, New Holstein. She was married to Frederick Gessert of Kiel Aug. 9, 1911, and he preceded her in death Sept. 6, 1928. She was married to Walter Horn June 5, 1937, and they resided at Valders where he was a veterinarian. When he died Sept. 7, 1955, she moved to Kiel. She was a member of St. Peter Church and a member of the Women’s Guild of the church. She was also a member of the Women’s Auxiliary to the Wisconsin Veterinarians Medical Assn. and of the Needlecraft Sewing Circle of Kiel. ALMA HORNECK Mrs. Walter Horneck, 66, of 710 Milwaukee St., Kiel, passed away suddenly at her home Thursday morning. Nee Alma Schmidt, she was born Nov. 25, 1888, in the town of Schleswig, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Schmidt. She attended district schools and on Nov. 5, 1907, was married to Walter Horneck of the town of Rhine. The couple lived in Rhine Center, where he operated a smithy, for 21 years, then moved to Milwaukee where they lived for several years. They returned to the town of Rhine and, after operating farms in the area for several years, moved to Kiel 10 years ago. Survivors include one son, Lester, of Thiensville; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Arno Lilge of Waldo and Mrs. William Lau of Sheboygan Falls; and two brothers, Arvin Schmidt of the town of Schleswig and George Schmidt of Kiel. BERTHA HORNECK Mrs. E. Horneck Of Rockville Dies on Wednesday Kiel - Mrs. Edward Horneck, 77, a resident of Rockville, Manitowoc county, passed away Wednesday evening at her home following a two-month illness. Nee Bertha Bub, the deceased was born Oct. 23, 1868, in the town of Rhine, the daughter of of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Bub. She was married to Edward Horneck on Sept. 26, 1886, and with the exception of a few years when they lived in Kiel, the couple spent their entire married life in Rockville. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Peter (Emma) Reineck, Appleton, and Mrs. Arno (Elsie) Schwartz, Milwaukee; three grandchildren and three great -grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church, with the Rev. E. L. Worthman, pastor, officiating. Burial will be made in the Kiel cemetary. EDWARD HORNECK Edward P. Horneck, 85-year-old native of the town of Rhine, passed away Friday morning at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Arno Schwartz, 5022 W. Burleigh, Milwaukee. He was born in the town of Rhine on Dec. 15, 1864, and later attended public school in that township. He learned the blacksmith trade at Rhine Center and Plymouth and later operated a blacksmith shop at Rockville. Following his retirement he moved to Kiel. Mr. Horneck was married to Miss Bertha Bub who preceded him in death in February, 1946. Following her death he made his home with a sister at Elkhart Lake until his recent illness when he moved to Milwaukee to live with a daughter. The survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Arno Schwartz of Milwaukee and Mrs. Peter Reineck of Appleton; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Nettie Engelmann, Mrs. Emma Roth and Mrs. Bertha Klein and two brothers, George and Robert, all of Elkhart Lake. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church with the Rev. E. L. Worthman officiating. Burial will be made in the Kiel cemetery. Horneck, 86 of W5645 CTH EH, Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, died Saturday afternoon, April 23, 1994 at Calumet Memorial Medical Center, Chilton, where he was admitted earlier in the day. He was born Feb. 16, 1908 in the Town of Rhine, son of the late George and Katherine Zimmermann Horneck. He attended school in the Town of Rhine. He first marriage was to Genieve Wojciechowski. She died in 1966. He then married Leona Bourret. She died in 1974. He then married Helen Van Derven Lasek Williamson on March 12, 1975 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth. Francis farmed on the family homestead in the Town of Rhine for over 58 years. He was a member of St. Peter's UCC, Kiel. Survivors include his wife, one daughter, four sons, step-children, 35 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 27, at Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, With the Rev. GENEVIEVE (WOJCIECHOWSKI) HORNECK Sheboygan Press February 17, 1966 (edited) Mrs. Francis Horneck, 60, a resident of the Town of Rhine (R.1, Elkhart Lake), died late Wednesday afternoon at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital following a lingering illness. The former Genevieve Wojciechowski was born on Feb. 17, 1905, in Crivitz, Wis., a daughter of the late Frank and Laura Golla Wojciechowski. The family later moved to Milwaukee where she attended schools. She was married to Mr. Horneck of the Town of Rhine on June 7, 1933. The couple lived in Sheboygan for three years before moving to their present home in the Town of Rhine. Mrs. Horneck was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ in Kiel. Survivors are her husband; one daughter, four sons, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; three sisters, and three brothers. JOSEPH HORNECK Joseph F. Horneck, 22-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Horneck, 809 Washington Ave., Kiel, died Thursday at Children’s Hospital, Milwaukee, where he had been a patient for a week. He was born May 24, 1972 in Sheboygan, a son of Dean and Marlene Grasser Horneck. ROGER L. HORNECK Roger L. Horneck, 70, of New Holstein,was born son of the late Francis and Genevieve Wajhouskie Horneck. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving his country in Korea. On June 17, 1961 he married Lila Rae L. Bratz at West Faith Lutheran Church, Valders. WALTER HORNECK Walter Horneck, 72, of 701 Milwaukee St., Kiel, former Rhine Center blacksmith, died early Tuesday evening at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital. In Ill health since the past October, he had been brought to the local hospital Monday. A son of the late Frederick and Mary Leonard Horneck, he was born at Rhine Center, town of Rhine, Sept 17, 1883. On Nov. 15, 1907 he married the former Alma Schmidt at Zion Lutheran Church, Louis Corners. Following marriage the couple settled at Rhine Center where Mr. Horneck operated a blacksmith shop for 21 years. After that they lived in Milwaukee for six years and later farmed. For the past 10 years they had resided in Kiel where Mr. Horneck had been employed by the Stoelting Bros. Mfg. Co. until ill health forced his retirement last October. Surviving are his wife; one son, Lester, Thiensville; two grandchildren; one brother, Norman, Sheboygan; two sisters, Miss Laura Horneck and Mrs. Norman Schierstedt, both of Plymouth. MATHILDA E. HORST Mathilda E. (Tillie) Horst, 81, formerly of Millhome died January 20, at Calumet Homestead, New Holstein where she had lived the last three months. The former Mathilda Schultz was born January 16, 1907, in Kiel, the daughter of the late Emil and Alwina Koeppen Schultz. She attended Kiel schools. On ?? 21, 1927 she married Reinhold Horst, in Waukegan, Illinois. The couple lived in Sheboygan before moving to Kiel. Mr. Horst died February 15, 1984. She was a member to Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel, its Ladies Aid Society and the Kiel Senior Citizens. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Roger (Audrey) Chandler, Oshkosh, a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Monica Horst, Millhome; five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and one brother, Oscar Schultz, Greenbush. REINHOLD A. HORST Reinhold A. Horst, 77, of Millhome, died Wednesday morning at Willowdale Nursing Home in New Holstein, where he had resided for a week and a half. He was born January 8, 1907, in Wausau, son of Alexander and Christina Krause Horst. Mr. Horst graduated from Wausau High School in 1925. He and the former Mathilda Schultz were married on May 21, 1927 at Waukegan, Illinois, and had lived in Sheboygan before moving to Millhome. Mr. Horst was employed by the Kohler Company for 44 years and retired in 1969. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Kiel and the Kiel Senior Citizens, and the Kohler Quarter Century Club. He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Roger (Audrey) Chandler of Oshkosh; a son, Robert of Millhome; five grandchildren; a great grandchild; a brother, John and a sister, Mrs. Emil Fellinger, both of Sheboygan. The funeral was at Meiselwitz Funeral Home in Kiel. The Reverend Richard Warnke, pastor of Trinity Lutheran church, officiated. Burial was in the Kiel Cemetery. ELDA HOWELLS Sad Death Brings Sorrow to Family Relatives and friends were shocked upon learning of the sudden death of Mrs. Thomas J. Howells, which occurred Tuesday at St. Bernard's hospital, Chicago. A message conveying the sad news was received by Mrs. Howell's father, August F. Neumann, on Tuesday afternoon. Death was due to hemorrhages superinduced by childbirth. Elda Howells was born in Kiel July 25, 1887, and graduated from the Kiel high school, class of 1904. She was employed a number of years as stenographer at the office of the Kiel Cheese & Butter Co., after which she went to California, where she was married to Lieut. H. Erwin Wright, who passed away several years ago. January 1, 1924, she was married to Thomas J. Howells at Chicago, where the couple have since made their home. Mrs. Howells was a high type of womanhood and her many virtues were recognized by everyone who knew her. Her death is a sad blow to her husband, parents, brothers and sister. Deceased is survived by her husband, her parents, two brothers, Walter of Milwaukee and Hugo of Kiel, and one sister, Mrs. H. F. Arps of Chilton. The remains will be shipped to Kiel on Thursday, and funeral services will take place at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. August F. Neumann. Rev. Wm. Rech will officiate at the home, and the Order of the Eastern Star of Chilton, of which she was a member, will conduct the service at the grave. Interment will be in the Kiel cemetery. - 1925

LOUIS HUENERBERG (d. 1940) Louis Huenerberg, aged 80, a former resident of this city, passed away at his home in Milwaukee late Saturday evening. The Huenerberg family resided here about twenty years ago. Burial took place Tuesday afternoon in the local cemetery, following services which had been conducted at the Heiden and Lange Funeral Home in Milwaukee. LUDIE HUENERBERG Ludy Huenerberg and Fred Sieling were skating at Kiel on Saturday afternoon when the former broke through the ice and began to sink rapidly. Young Sieling tried to assist the drowning lad who grabbed hold of his leg and held on with a death grip. Sieling was rescued by passing people and an hour after the body of Huenerberg was recovered. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Rech officiating. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Huenerberg of Kiel who have the sympathy of the entire community. Hilbert Favorite, December 12, 1912
MARY HUENERBERG Mrs. Mary Huenerberg Passed Away Sunday at Milwaukee Friends in this city were grieved to learn of the death of Mrs. Mary Huenerberg at her home in Milwaukee last Sunday. Mrs. Huenerberg is a former local resident and has many friends and relatives here. Mary Wilkens-Huenerberg was born January 10, 1856 in Langvedel, Hanover, Germany. Both Mr. and Mrs. Louis Huenerberg came to New York from Germany, before their marriage, and after being residents there for eight months, were married October 26, 1884, and then the couple came to Manitowoc County, where they remained for four years. They then moved to this city, which was their home for twenty-four years, and where their six children were born. One girl and two boys died in infancy. Later they moved to Milwaukee. The deceased is survived by her husband; three children, William of Milwaukee; Lorena Hundertmark of Milwaukee, and Elmer of Huntington, West Virginia; and 4 grandchildren also survive. AURELIA IBELING MRS. J. IBELING DIES AT HOME OF DAUGHTER Mrs. John Ibeling, life-long resident of this city, passed away Friday at 4 p.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. C. Bussian, Racine, after a lingering illness. The remains arrived here Monday morning, and lay at the C. J. Meiselwitz funeral parlors until the afternoon, where at 2 o'clock the funeral was held from that place, the Rev. Otto Saewert, pastor of the St. Peter Reformed church conducting the service. Burial was in the family lot at the Kiel cemetery. Mrs. Ibeling, whose maiden name was Aurelia Thiedemann, was born on a farm near Kiel, April 5, 1861, and was 67 years of age at the time of her death. November 23, 1880, she was united in marriage to John Ibeling, a painter by trade, and the couple immediately after the nuptials established a permanent home here. Those left to mourn her death are: Her husband, two daughters, Mrs. R. C. Bussian of Racine, and Mrs. Edna Mack of Milwaukee, and one son, Herman at home. Two children have preceded her in death. Among those from away who attended the funeral of Mrs. John Ibeling Monday were: Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Bussian of Racine; Theodore Oesau, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. JOHN IBELING Give Obituary of John Ibeling Following is the obituary of John Ibeling, who passed away at his home here Wednesday, June 7. John Ibeling was born in Germany March 4, 1849. He was united in marriage on November 23, 1880 to Miss Aurelia Thiedemann, a resident of the town of Schleswig, who precede him in death in July, 1928. Immediately after their marriage the couple located in Kiel, Mr. Ibeling being a painter by trade. During the last fifteen years of his life he was an invalid. To the couple five children were born of whom the following three survive: Mrs. R. C. Bussian, Racine; Mrs. Edna Mack, Milwaukee, and Herman of Milwaukee. Funeral services were held from the Meiselwitz Undertaking parlors Saturday, September 10, with the Odd Fellow lodge, of which he was a member, in charge. The Rev. E. L. Worthman officiated. Pallbearers were the following: Adolph Hingiss, Rudolph Greve, J. B. Laun, Philip Mueller, Edward Krostag, and Edward Gutenkunst. Interment was in the Kiel cemetery.
