Stoll (v.20 p.398) Died Oct. 16, 1923 at age 55 years, 7 months and 21 days Husband of Kate Mattes Son of Henry Stoll and Wilhelmina Wegner (both born Germany) Born Wisconsin –laborer Died from “suicide by hanging” Buried at Kiel Cemetery ********* HERMAN STOLL DIES SUDDENLY Found in the Bathroom of His Home on Tuesday Afternoon The community was shocked on Tuesday afternoon, when the news spread that Herman Stoll, one of Kiel’s well-known citizens was dead. He was found in an unconscious condition in the bathroom of his home at about 3 o’clock, and expired soon after. Mr. Stoll had been in poor health for some time, but the attending physician said his condition was improving. Deceased was born in Rockville, February 25, 1868, where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage in 1892 to Katherine Mattes, after which the couple took up their residence in Kiel, where Mr. Stoll was local agent for the K. Schreier Co., which position he held until the concern discontinued its branch in Kiel. Since then he was employed at different jobs until his failing health compelled him to remain at home. Mr. Stoll was a modest, unassuming man, attending strictly to his own affairs, and thereby meriting the respect and good will of all who knew him. Deceased is survived by his grief-stricken widow and six children, as follows: Mrs. Otto Tagge of New Holstein. Mrs. Edwin Radloff of Plymouth, Mrs. Arno Eckardt of Kiel, and Miss Julia at home; August Stoll of Kiel and Hugo Stoll of Madison; also four grandchildren, one brother, Ferdinand, of Rockville, and two sisters, Mrs. Wm. Gruhle of Rockville and Mrs. Herman Reichert of Millhome survive him. One son, Harry, lost his life some years ago, by drowning in the millpond. The funeral will take place on Friday afternoon, Rev. W. Rech officiating. Interment in the Kiel cemetery. Oct. 18, 1923 *********** Herman C. Stoll has been identified with the business interests of Kiel for eighteen years, as local representative of the K. Schreier Brewing Company. He has passed his entire life in Manitowoc county, and is a native of Schleswig township, his birth having occurred there on the 25th of February, 1870. His father, Henry Stoll, was born in Saxe-Gotha, Germany, whence he emigrated with his parents, Fred and Matha (Keppler) Stoll, in 1859, to the United States. They first located in Pennsylvania, where the fathr engaged in farming. Later they removed to Sheboygan county, Wisconsin, an dhe continued his agricultural pursuits in Meeme township. He subsequently withdrew from farming, however, and purchased a sawmill at Rockville, this state, which he operated under the name of Stoll & Son until his death. He was one of the pioneers of Manitowoc county, and lived to attain the venerable age of eighty years. Henry Stoll, who is now living retired in Holstein, Calumet county, this state, at the age of seventy years, was only a child when he accompanied his parents to America. Upon attaining manhood he engaged in the lumber and milling business in Wisconsin, meeting with very good success in the development of his interests. For his wife he cholse Miss Wilhelmina Wagner, a daughter of Fred Wagner, one of the pioneer settlers of Sheboygan county. The mother is now deceased, having passed away in 1895, at the age of fifty one years. Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stoll, as follows: Ferdinand; Herman C., our subject; Dora, the wife of W. Gruhle; and Emma, who married H. Reichhart, of Kiel. The services were held from the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church with the Rev. E. L. Worthman in charge. Burial was made in the Kiel cemetery. She was born in the town of Schleswig July 28, 1870, the daughter of the late Philip and Julia Reichart Mattes. July 23, 1892, she was married to Herman Stoll, who preceded her in death. The couple made their home in Kiel ever since their marriage. She was a member of the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church, the Kiel Frauenverein, and the Kiel Branch of Royal Neighbors. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Edward Radloff, Plymouth, Mrs. Otto Tagge and Mrs. Elmer Hipke, New Holstein, and Mrs. Esther Eckardt, Kiel; two sons, Hugo of Madison and August of Plymouth; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Louisa Wagenknecht, Kiel; one brother, George Mattes of Rockville.


ERCIE D. STOLTZMANN Funeral services were held Monday for Mrs. Fred. H. Stoltzmann, 74, of Rhinelander, a former Kiel resident, who died Saturday at a Rhinelander, nursing home. The services were conducted at Meiselwitz Funeral Home with the Rev. Allen L. Bowe, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Kiel, officiating. Burial was in the Kiel cemetery. The former Ercie Liby, she was born on April 30, 1895, at Hillsdale, Michigan, and married Fred Stoltzmann of the town of Meeme on April 17, 1915. The couple settled in the town of Rhine, where he operated a cheese factory, until moving to Kiel, where they resided until moving to Rhinelander in 1960. The couple observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1965. Mr. Stoltzmann died in September, 1966. FRED H. STOLTZMANN Fred W. Stolzmann(sic), 78, of Rhinelander, a former Town of Rhine cheesemaker and Kiel resident, died Saturday morning at home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel. The Rev. Allen L. Bowe will officiate and burial will be in the Kiel Cemetery. Mr. Stolzmann was born July 2, 1888, in the Town of Meeme. He married Ercie Liby April 17, 1915. He operated a cheese factory in the Town of Rhine before moving to Kiel, where he was employed at Kiel Bottling Works. The couple had celebrated its golden wedding anniversary in April, 1965. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Marvin (Pearl) Walls, of Rhinelander, two grandchildren and a great grandchild. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Monday. ANNA M. STRADE Mrs. Anna Strade, 91, a native of Sheboygan County, died Saturday evening at Rolling Meadows Home For the Aged in Fond du Lac. She was born Nov. 1, 1870, in the Town of Russell. She moved to Fond du Lac 20 years ago and entered Rolling Meadows in 1958. Her husband, Henry Strade, preceded her in death. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Hanna Conrad, Fond du Lac; a brother, A. G. Jung, Burlington, and several nieces and nephews. A brother and two sisters also preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home. HENRY C. STRADE Henry C. Stade Stricken Monday In Fond du Lac Kiel—(Special)—Henry C. Strade, 79, resident of the Old People’s Home, Fond du Lac, for the past three weeks, died at St. Agnes hospital at Fond du Lac Monday night following a brief illness. He was born Oct. 8, 1863, in the town of Schleswig. He married Anna Jung of the town of Russell on Nov. 27, 1894. The couple resided on a farm at Hilbert until they sold the farm and retired to the Old People’s Home three weeks ago. Survivors are the widow and two sisters, Mrs. Augusta Wilkens and Mrs. Anna Pfister, Sheboygan. Funeral services will be held at the Meiselwitz Funeral home, the Rev. JOHANN A. STRASSBERG On Sunday Mr. Andreas Strassburg died at the age of 86 years 2 months and 10 days. The deceased was born on January 10, 1816 in Saxon-Wiemar. In February of 1849 he married Wilhelmina Fischmann. The marriage was blessed with five children, three of which survive their father. In the year 1857 the family came to America and settled in Wisconsin. Since last November the deceased has suffered from apoplexy. About three weeks ago he recovered from the stroke which made him bedridden, lame on one side and robbed him of his speech. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, 20 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. The burial took place at 2 o’clock on Wednesday at the Kiel Cemetery, Pastor Roeck officiated. WILHELMINE STRASSBERG After a short illness Mrs. Wilhelmine Strassberg, died last week Wednesday, in the home of her grandson, Mr. Robert Schmidt, close to Howards Grove, where she has lived for several years. She had previously been a long time resident of Kiel and had reached the high age of 86 years. The deceased, who had been born in Germany, came with her husband Andreas Strassberg to America 54 years ago, where they settled in the Town of Sheboygan Falls and lived with their family for many years. Later they moved to Kiel, where her husband died 13 years ago. She leaves behind three daughters, 20 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. The funeral will take place on Saturday afternoon in the Kiel Cemetery, she will be laid to rest next to her husband. Pastor Helm from Schwarzwald will give the service. Kiel Record, no date 1914


MATHILDA STRASSMAN NIESENS Mrs. John Neisen, 75, former resident of the town of Schleswig, died at her home at Stanley, Wis., last night. Funeral services will be held at Stanley Monday and the body will be brought to Kiel for brief services at the Meiselwitz Funeral home to be followed by burial in the Kiel cemetery. Mrs. Neisen was the former Mathilda Mueller. She was a native of Sheboygan. Her first husband, William Strassman, died about 15 years ago. Her second husband died several years ago. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Clyde Thomas of St. Croix Falls, three sons, Walter and Ervin Strassman of Thorp and William Strassman, whose whereabouts are not known. WILLIAM STRASSMAN William Strassman passed away at his home here Wednesday morning, at the age of 69 years and 4 months, after an illness of many months. Heart failure caused his death. HARLEY G. STREIBER SR. Harley G. Streiber, 66, of 22 E. Fremont St., Apt. 202, Kiel, died Monday, Dec. 23, 1996 at Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center shortly after being admitted. He was born Jan. 2, 1930, son of the late Walter and Hattie Manz Streiber. He attended Harrison School in the Town of Rhine. He was a veteran of the US Army in the Korean Conflict. He was employed at Kohler Company and later at AA Laun Co., Kiel, retiring in 1992. He also owned and operated Bonnie and Harley’s Bar in Louis Corners for approximately nine years. He was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ in Kiel and a past member of the Kiel Bean Bag League. He enjoyed playing cards and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packer fan. Survivors include four children; Harley Jr. “Sonny” (Linda) Streiber of Kiel, Julie (Steven) Matznik of Kiel, Terry Streiber and fiancé Cara Wadkins of rural Kiel, and Cindy (Eric) Lau of Kiel; 10 grandchildren; three sisters, Bernice (Gerald) Wick of Elkhart Lake, Myrtle (Henry) Raeder of Plymouth and Carol (Harold) Pieper of Plymouth; many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. HATTIE STREIBER Funeral services for Mrs. Hattie Streiber, 84, widow of Walter G. of Kiel, who died Friday morning at Toth Nursing home, Chilton, will be at St. Peter United Church of Christ, Kiel. The Rev. John f. Baumann, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Kiel cemetery. The former Hattie Manz she was born Oct. 18, 1890 in the town of Rhine, a daughter of Philip and Louise Brieske Manz. On June 23, 1915 she was married to Mr. Streiber at Elkhart Lake. After their marriage the couple lived on the Streiber homestead farm in the Town of Rhine which they operated until retirement in 1945, then moved to Kiel. The couple observed their golden wedding anniversary on June 1965. Mr. Strieber died on Sept. 27, 1974. Mrs. Streiber resided at the Toth Nursing Home the past six years. She was a member of St. Peter UCC in Kiel, its Women’s Guild and its Frauen Verine. Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Bernice) Wick of rural Elkhart Lake, Mrs. Roland (Laverne) Libke of New Holstein, Mrs. Henry (Myrtle) Raeder and Mrs. Harold (Carol) Pieper, both of Plymouth; a son, Harley of rural Kiel; 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; three brothers, Harold Manz of San Diego, Calif., Gilbert, Arlyn, both of Milwaukee and a sister, Mrs. Jake Minch of Plymouth. JOHN STREIBER John Streiber, 73, of Elkhart Lake, passed away suddenly this morning at his home. He was born Sept. 19, 1878, on the Streiber homestead in the town of Rhine, the son of the late Adam and Catherine Streiber. In 1916 he moved with his parents to the village of Elkhart Lake. For the past 12 years he has been caretaker at the Community Evangelical and Reformed Church in Elkhart Lake. Survivors include one brother, Walter, of Kiel; six nieces and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and one brother. Funeral services will be held at the Community Evangelical and Reformed Church. The Rev. Paul A. WALTER STREIBER Funeral services for Walter G. Streiber, 84, a former Town of Rhine and Kiel resident, who died Friday at the Toth Nursing Home, Chilton, will be held Monday. The Rev. John F. Baumann, pastor, will officiate at St. Peter United Church of Christ, Kiel. Burial will be in Kiel cemetery. Born on Feb. 16, 1890 in the Town of Rhine, he was a son of the late Adam and Auguste Kunst Streiber. He was a graduate of Plymouth High School, class of 1911. He also attended Mission House College, completing the commercial science course. On June 23, 1915 he married Katie Manz at Plymouth. The couple located on the Streiber home farm which they operated until their retirement when they moved to Kiel where he was employed at the A. A. Laun Furniture Co. They observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1965. The couple moved to the Toth Nursing home five years ago. He was a member of St. Peter UCC. Survivors include his widow; four daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Bernice) Wick, rural Elkhart Lake, Mrs. Roland (Laverne) Lipke, New Holstein, Mrs. Henry (Myrtle) Raeder and Mrs. Harold (Carol) Pieper both of Plymouth; a son, Harley, rural Kiel; 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. MAGDALINE "LENA" STRIEBEL An invalid for the past three years, Mrs. Magdaline Striebel passed away at her home at 709 Fourth street here at 6:25 Thursday afternoon of last week. She had been under the care of a nurse for over three years. Mrs. Striebel, nee Diefenthaler, was born May 6, 1857, in the town of Rhine, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Anton Diefenthaler. Here she grew to womanhood, and in November, 1875 she was united in marriage to William Striebel of Kansas. After living in Kansas for several years after their marriage they moved to Colorado, but returned to Kansas, where they lived seven years longer. From Kansas the couple came to Millhome, where after some years they moved to Milwaukee, where her husband passed away June 24, 1924. No children were born to the couple, and two sisters and two brothers preceded her in death within the past several years. Nieces and nephews are the only survivors. The deceased was a member of the Frauenverein of the St. Peter Reformed church. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Meiselwitz funeral parlors, and services were conducted by the Re. E. L. Worthman. Interment was in the Kiel cemetery. Pall bearers were Edward Horneck, William Eickhoff, O. A. Duerrwaechter, Chrles Guetzloe, Joseph Klein, and Gottlieb Burkhardt.


WILLIAM STRIEBEL William Striebel, a well-known former resident of the town of Schleswig, passed away at his home in Milwaukee on Tuesday at last week, after many years’ illness with palsy, which confined him to his bed the last four months. Mr. Striebel was born in Wurttemberg, Germany, January 19, 1853, and came to America as a lad of sixteen years with his parents, who settled at Rockville. He worked as a farm hand for some years in the vicinity, also in Kansas and Colorado, and was married in 1877 to Magdalena Diefenthaeler. For a number of years the couple lived on a small place near Millhome, and nineteen years ago they moved to Milwaukee, where they have since resided. Mr. Striebel had many friends in this vicinity who were always plased to greet him on his visits here. He leaves his widow, one brother, Conrad of Milwaukee, and one sister, Mrs. Susan Reiser of Chicago. The remains were shipped to Kiel and were taken in charge by undertaker C. J. Meiselwitz, from where the funeral was held on Friday afternoon, Rev. W. Rech officiating. Burial was made in the Kiel cemetery.


ELFRIEDE STRONG Mrs. Elfriede Strong, age 51, of 1033A Seventh Street, Kiel, died Sunday, September 6, at her home from an apparent heart attack. The former Elfriede Gramlich was born August 23, 1936, in Grosslangheim, Germany, the daughter of Angelina and the late Otto Gramlich. She graduated from Berufschule, Kitzingen, Germany. She was employed at Gilson Brothers, Plymouth, for the past 10 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel. Survivors include her mother, Germany; one daughter, Sandra, member of United States Air Force, RAF, Benwaters, England; three sisters, Mrs. Sylvester (Rose) Burg, New Holstein; Mrs. Junior (Hildegard) Pace, Sayetteville, North Carolina; Mrs. Herbert (Rita) Estenfeilder, Grosslangheim, West Germany; one brother, Robert Gramlich, Frohstockheim, West Germany. She was preceded in death by her father and one brother. Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel, Rev. Richard Warnke, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Kiel Cemetery. LOUISE STUERMER Death claimed Mrs. Louise Gustine Stuermer at 11 o’clock a.m. on Sunday, at the home of her nephew, Otto Arndt, at Forest Junction, where she had been cared for in the last few weeks. Heart disease was the cause of death. Mrs. Stuermer was a native of Uckermark, Germany, where she was born November 3, 1844. She was united in marriage to Carl Stuemer in 1865, and two years later the couple came to America. After five years’ residence in Sheboygan they came to Kiel in 1872, where Mr. Stuermer conducted a blacksmith shop for many years, on the site where the Mercantile building now stands. Her husband passed away in 1904. She leaves one brother at Fond du Lac, and other relatives. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon, from her late home, where the remains had been brought, with interment in the Kiel cemetery, Rev. Wm. Rech officiated.


CARL E. STUMPF Carl E. Stumpf, 84, of 817 6th St., Kiel, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 1995 at Calumet Homestead Rehabilitation Center in New Holstein where he was a resident since March 1993. He was born March 9, 1910 in Kiel, a son of the late Jacob and Hedwig Baumann Stumpf. He was a 1929 graduate of Kiel High School and a 1947 graduate of the Institute of Mortuary Science. On Feb. 9, 1942 he married Helen Meiselwitz in Dubuque, Iowa. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the European Theatre. He was a funeral director for Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, for 27 years, retiring in 1972. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Kiel, where he served as an elder and a member of the choir. He was also a member of the Kiel VFW Post 6707, a former Kiel alderman, he belonged to the Kiel Historical Association, Kiel Barbershop Chorus and the Wisconsin Funeral Directors Association. Survivors include this wife, Helen Meiselwitz Stumpf; three sons, Carl J. (Sharyn) of Madison, John W. of Appleton and Peter A. (Cynthia) of Denver, Colo. He is further survived by nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. Funeral services were held Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Kiel, with the Rev. HATTIE STUMPF Funeral services were held Saturday for Mrs. Jacob Stumpf, 91, of this city, who died at her home Thursday after a lingering illness. The services were held at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home with the Rev. Allen L. Bowe officiating. Burial was in the Kiel Cemetery. The former Hattie Baumann was born in Johnsonville February 15, 1872, a daughter of the late Edward and Wilhelmina Baumann. She moved to St. Cloud with her parents and received her education there. She was married September 1, 1895 at Chicago to Jacob Stumpf. The couple lived at Kiel where he was employed by the Kiel Furniture Co. He preceded her in death in 1948. Mrs. Stumpf was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kiel and a charter member of the former Dorcas Society of the church. The family moved to St. Cloud, Wis., when she was a young girl and she was educated in the public schools there She was married to Jacob Stump Sept. 1, 1895 at Chicago. The couple settled at Kiel where he was employed at Kiel Furniture Co. They observed its (sic) golden wedding anniversary Sept. 1, 1945. Mr. Stumpf died in 1948. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Kiel, and a charter member of the former Dorcas Society of the church. Among survivors are two sons, Reinhold at Edgerton and Carl of Kiel; two daughters, Miss Leona of Kiel, with whom she made her home, and Mrs. Irmgard Good of Albion, Wis.; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. HELEN D. STUMPF Henry D. Meiselwitz Stumpf, age 92, of 817 Sixth St., Kiel, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000. Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian church, Kiel, with the Rev. Maricia Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Kiel City Cemetery. The daughter of the late Carl J. and Wilhelmina Zimmermann Meiselwitz she was born Helen Meiselwitz on Aug. 30, 1907 in Kiel. Helen attended Kiel Grade School and was a 1925 graduate of Kiel High School. She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1929. Helen also attended summer sessions for continued education of UW-Oshkosh in 1959-60. On Feb. 9, 1942, Helen married Carl Stumpf in Dubuque, Iowa. He preceded her in death Jan. 26, 1995. She taught at Wonewoc, Wis., from 1929 – 1930. Helen then taught English and German at Shawano High School for 13 years. She was a librarian at Kiel High School for 11 years. Helen retired from teaching in 1972. She was a member of First Presbyterian Women, Kiel; Area Study Club, Kiel; VFW Auxiliary; Kiel Historical Society, Manitowoc County Retired Teachers Association; Wisconsin Education Society; and American Legion Unit 99 Auxiliary where she was a member of 54 years and past president. Survivors include her three sons, Carl (Sharyn), Middleton, Wis.; John (Elaine), Kiel; Peter (Cynthia), Thorton, Colo. She is further survived by nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. JACOB STUMPF Jacob Stumpf Is Summoned Today St Home In Kiel Jacob Stumpf, 81, died early today at his home in Kiel following a lingering illness. The deceased was born July 25, 1866, in Germany and came to the United States in 1882. He was a resident of Kiel for the past 42 years and was employed at the Kiel Furniture company for 30 years. On Sept. 1, 1895, he was married to Miss Hattie Baumann of St. Cloud, Wis. Survivors include two sons, Carl of Kiel and Reinhold of Edgerton, Wis., two daughters, Miss Leona Stumpf, Kiel and Mrs. J. L. (Imgard) Good of Albson, Wis, six grand- children and two sisters, Mrs. Henry Hottmann and Mrs. Mary Thater, both of New York City. LEONE STUMPF Miss Leona Stumpf, 68, 818 Seventh Street, died at Sheboygan Memorial hospital early Tuesday morning following a short illness. Funeral services will be held today at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Allen Bowe officiating. Burial will be in the Kiel Cemetery. An eastern Star Memorial service was held at Meiselwitz funeral Home Wednesday evening. She was born September 13, 1897 in Chicago, a daughter of the late Jacob and Hattie Stumpf, and moved to Kiel with her parents as a child. She graduated from Kiel High School with the class of 1916. After graduation she accepted a bookkeeping position with the J. B. Laun Company, Kiel, continuing in that capacity when the firm was later sold and renamed the A. A. Laun Company. Miss Stumpf was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the church choir, the United Presbyterian Woman’s Association of the church, and a member and past secretary of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 281 and a member of the America Legion Auxiliary. MARSHA L. SWANSON Services Set For Victim Funeral services for Marsha L. Swanson, 18, of Route 2, Kiel, who was found dead Thursday near Kiel, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Zion Lutheran Church, Louis Corners. The body of Miss Swanson, an apparent homicide victim, was discovered near Highway 57 early Thursday by a passing motorist. The Rev. Adalbert Schultz, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Kiel Cemetery. Friends may call at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday and at the church from noon until the time of services. Miss Swanson was born March 14, 1962, in Wausau, a daughter of Delwin and Caryle Mueller Swanson. She graduated in June from Kiel High School. She was a member of the school band, and was active in the school plays. Miss Swanson was employed at the West Side Lounge, Kiel. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Louis Corners. Survivors are her parents, two sisters, Dana and Roxanne; a brother, Michael, all at home; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Swanson; Deerbrook; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. BERTHA TAMM Mrs. Bertha Tamm, 92, a town of Charlestown resident and a former resident of Kiel, died this morning in Willowdale Nursing Home, New Holstein where she had been a resident for six weeks. The former Bertha Wieting was born Jan. 11, 1885, in the Town of Schleswig, a daughter of Frederick and Mary Schilling Wieting. She attended district school there. June 3, 1908 she married Edward W. Tamm in the town of Schleswig. The couple lived in Appleton and Kaukauna before moving to Kiel in 1913. Mr. Tamm was a former secretary and founder of the Kiel Saving and Loan. He was also a former state bank commissioner. He died in 1949. Mrs. Tamm was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in the Town of Schleswig, the Woman’s Society of the church, the General Arts Homemaker’s Group and the Kiel Lodge Order of Eastern Star. EDWARD W. TAMM After suffering with a lingering illness for many months, death claimed Edward W. Tamm Saturday morning at his home at 605 Fremont Street. Mr. Tamm was very active in the business world. Up to the time of his illness he was a member of the state banking commission. He was the first secretary of the Kiel Building and Loan association when it was organized in 1919, was a member of the Manitowoc county board of supervisors from 1935 to 1943, was a trustee of the Maple Crest sanitarium, and was a past president of the Wisconsin Building and Loan league. The deceased was born on a farm near Brillion March 2, 1883; he attended Brillion high school, and graduated from Boyle College, Omaha, Neb. He was married to Miss Bertha Wieting of Schleswig in 1908 and the couple lived in Brillion until 1916 when they moved to this city. Mr. Tamm was chairman of the asylum committee when plans for the new mental hospital, now under construction, were drawn back in 1941. During the last war he served on the selective service board of District No. 2. He formerly served on the banking department’s building and loan advisory committee and for years headed his own insurance agency here. In 1940 he was honored by being chosen president of the Wisconsin Building and Loan league. After serving eight years on the county board, Mr. Tamm resigned to become a member of the state banking commission in 1943, being named by Governor Goodland. He resigned at that time as secretary and manager of the Kiel Building and Loan association. Mr. Tamm retired from the state position in 1947, when the three member commission was reorganized and a single commissioner setup adopted. Survivors are his wife; one son, Charles of Juneau; a daughter, Mrs. Allen Leverenz of New Holstein; four grandchildren; and three brothers, Alfred, Frank and Wesley of Brillion. One brother preceded him in death. He was a member of the Bethel Methodist church of Meggars, and a past master of the Kiel Masonic lodge. CATHERINE M. TAPPENDORF Catherine M. Tappendorf, 47, of 323 Sixth St., Kiel, died Wednesday morning, Sept. 20, 2006 at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan after a short battle with cancer. She was the former Catherine Knaus born Jan. 27, 1959 in Fond du Lac, daughter of Marjorie Schmid Knaus and the late Elroy Knaus. She was a 1977 graduate of New Holstein High School. She married Michael Tappendorf in Johnsburg on Aug. 22, 1980. Catherine worked at Bemis Mfg. Sheboygan Falls for 17 years. She enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter Madison, camping and boating. EDWIN TEMME Edwin F. Temme, age 87, of 801 S. Lincoln Drive, Howards Grove, passed away at Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center on Monday evening, Feb. 3, 2003. He was born Oct. 2, 1915 in Kiel, a son of the late Roland and Minnie (Krause) Temme and attended Kiel schools. Edwin served his country in World War II in the United States Army. On May 7, 1938 Edwin and Florence Kuester were untied in marriage at St. Peter United church of Christ in Kiel. Edwin had worked for 46 years at R-Way Furniture, retiring as a superintendent of finishing. He also enjoyed the game of golf. Edwin was a member of Ebenezer United Church of Christ in Sheboygan. Surviving Edwin is his loving wife of 64 years, Florence of Howards Grove; three daughters, Ann Taliant of Visalia, Calif., Kay Hemb (special friend Wayne) of Sheboygan, and Sue (Delmar) Riesterer of rural Valders; three grandchildren, and one brother, Elmer Temme of Sheboygan Falls. Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Dale Taliant; two grandchildren, and a sister, Mae Ringel. ELIZABETH TEMME Funeral services were held Saturday for Mrs. Elizabeth Temme, 95, who died at the Roland Temme home Wednesday of last week. Mrs. Temme was buried in the Kiel cemetery after services conducted by the Rev. E. G. Behm at the Meiselwitz Funeral home. A resident of Kiel for the past 50 years, she had made her home with her son for the past 12 years. Her death followed a lingering illness. Born June 8, 1863, in Weisbach, Germany a daughter of John and Elizabeth Wagner, she came to America with her parents in 1884, settling in Milwaukee. Following her marriage to Fred Temme of Milwaukee, the couple moved to Kiel in 1908. Her husband preceded her in death in 1942. FLORENCE TEMME Florence A. Temme, 86, formerly of 801 S. Lincoln Dr. in Howards Grove, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2006, at Sheboygan Progressive Care Center under the care of Aurora Visiting Nurse Association. Florence was born May 7, 1920 in Kiel to the late Christian and Bertha (Voelker) Kuester. She attended school in Kiel. On May 7, 1938, she married Edwin Temme at St. Peter U.C.C. in Kiel, he preceded her in death February 3, 2003. Florence was a member of Ebenezer United Church of Christ in Sheboygan. She was employed by the Kohler Co. for ten years. Florence enjoyed sewing, knitting, and playing golf. She loved being with her family, especially on the holidays. ERICH P. TEMRECK Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at St. John's United Church of Christ, New Holstein for Erich P. Temreck, 71, of New Holstein who died Sunday morning at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton. The Rev. Charles A. Koch officiated and burial was in the Kiel Cemetery. He was born on June 29, 1897 at Kiel, the son of the late Herman and Rose Temreck. His family later moved to the Town of Eaton. On February 25, 1919, he married Minnie Mahloch of Kiel at Schleswig. Mr. Temreck farmed in Schleswig until 1949 when he moved to New Holstein. He was employed at the Arps Corporation and the Kestell Furniture Company until his retirement five years ago. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife; a son, Elmer of Kiel, and one grandaughter. FERDINAND TEMRECK At his home on Tuesday evening at his home, Mr. Ferdinand Timmereck died following an apoplectic stroke he had suffered on Sunday night. The deceased was born in Neitkow, Pommern, Germany. On December 7, 1859 he married Karolina Schröder (Schroeder). The marriage produced seven children, six of whom survive their father. They are Augusta (August) Manzeck of Milwaukee, Ludwig (Augusta, nee Kanske) Timreck, Herman (Rosa Anna, nee Hildebrandt) Timreck, Mary (Gustav) Dawurske, Emma (Herman C.) Lietzke and Minnie (Albert) Lietzke. He came here in 1890 and has lived here ever since. Seven years and seven months ago his wife, Caroline, nee Schroder, preceded him in death. HERMAN TEMRECK Relatives and friends here were shocked on Saturday morning, when they learned of the death of Herman Temreck, which occurred at 5:30 a.m. that day at the farm home of his son, Erich, in the town of Schleswig. Death occurred after a short illness. Mr. Temreck was born in Germany on June 1, 1867, and came to America in 1890 and settled in Kiel. On July 3, 1897 he was married to Miss Rose Hildebrandt, who preceded him in death March 5, 1933. For several years they made their home here, where Mr. Temreck was employed at the Kiel Wooden Ware Company. In 1906 the couple purchased a farm in the town of Eaton, and in 1919 they moved to a farm in the town of Schleswig. After living here for some time they retired and purchased a home in this city. Following are the survivors: a daughter, Mrs. Edmund (Ella) Dedering of this city and a son, Erich, on the homestead farm; two sisters, Mrs. Albert (Minnie) Lietzke of Chicago, and four grandsons, Melvin, Kenneth and Edmund Dedering and Elmer Temreck. A brother, Ludwig Timreck(sic), and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Dawurske and Mrs. Augusta Manzeck preceded him in death. Funeral services took place on Tuesday afternoon from the C. J. Meiselwitz Funeral Home at 1:30 p. m. and at 2 p. m. at the St Peter Evangelical and Reformed church. With the Rev E. L. Worthman officiating. MINNIE TEMRECK Mrs. Minnie Temreck, 86, of 121 Pain St., Kiel, died Sunday morning at Chilton Village Nursing Home in Chilton, where she had resided for two weeks. The former Minnie Mahloch was born Aug. 27, 1899, in the Town of Rhine, daughter of Carl and Lena Gerlach Mahloch. She had attended Kiel Schools. On Feb. 25, 1919, she married Erich Temreck at Bethlehem United Church of Christ in the town of Schleswig. The couple farmed in the town of Schleswig until retiring in 1950, when they moved to New Holstein. Mr. Temreck has died in 1968. For the past six years, Mrs. Temreck had resided in Kiel. She was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ in Kiel. Surviving are a granddaughter a great grandson; and one sister, Ida Michels of New Holstein. ROSA TEMRECK Mrs. Herman Temreck Relative and friends were shocked on Sunday when they learned of the death of Mrs. Herman Temreck, aged 60, of this city, who passed away at the St. Nicholas hospital in Sheboygan at 5 p.m. that day. Mrs. Temreck became seriously ill at about three a.m., when the children were summoned. Late Sunday afternoon she was removed to the hospital, but of no avail. The deceased maiden name was Rose Anna Adeline Hildebrandt, the daughter of the late Carl and Adeline Hildebrandt. She was born in Pommerania, Germany July 10, 1872. In 1893 she came to this country and a year later her parents followed her. In February 1931 her mother, who had been making her home with them, preceded her in death. On July 3rd, 1896 she was married to Herman Temreck of this city, who also some years ago had immigrated to this country. The couple resided in this city for eight years, having built the home which now is owned by Mrs. Minnie Mattes and family. They then purchased a farm seven miles north of Kiel, in the town of Eaton, where they resided for fifteen years. They sold this farm to a son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Dedering and bought another farm located four miles north of Kiel on Highway 32, where they lived up until 1926. Their son Erick then bought this farm and Mr. and Mrs. Temreck moved to Kiel, where they have resided since, purchasing the home from the deceased mother. Survivors are her husband, two children, Erich of the town of Schleswig, and Mrs. Edmund (Ella) Dedering of this city; four grandchildren, Elmer Temreck and Melvin, Kenneth and Edmund Dedering; five brothers, Paul and Otto Hildebrandt of this city, Richard and Reinhold Hildebrandt of New Holstein, and Herman Hildebrandt of Sheboygan; and two sisters, Mrs. Otto Koepp and Mrs. Elizabeth Mueller of Milwaukee.


BERNICE THEDE Mrs. James Thede, 69, of Kiel, died October 16 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton, where she had been a patient for three weeks. The former Bernice Drake was born August 14, 1906 in Milwaukee a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Drake. She received her education in Wauwatosa Schools. On May 21, 1935 she was married to Mr. Thede in Sheboygan. The couple lived in New Holstein for 30 years and three years near Campbellsport before moving to Kiel. Mr. Thede operated a small engine repair shop at New Holstein and Kiel, and presently is a radio operator at the New Holstein Police Department Survivors include her husband; a niece and a nephew. JAMES THEDE James L. Thede, 79, formerly of Kiel, died Friday morning, October 5, at Calumet Homestead, New Holstein where he was a resident since July. He was born January 11, 1911, at Chilton, son of the late Jack and Magdalyn Smith Thede. On May 21, 1935, he married Bernice Drake in Sheboygan. The couple lived in New Holstein for 39 years and three years near Campbellsport before moving to Kiel. Jim operated a small engine repair shop in New Holstein and Kiel and was also a police dispatcher for the New Holstein Police Department. His wife, Bernice, preceded him in death on October 16, 1975. Survivors include three sisters, Lucille (Ernest) Wampler of Florida; Mabel (Jerald) Graves of New Holstein; Madeline (Donald) Oakley of Chilton; numerous nieces and nephews; and a dear friend, (private) of Sheboygan. DENNIS LEE THIEDEMAN Dennis Thiedeman, 26, 309 Hillcrest Drive, Kiel, died in Kiel on Friday after falling down a stairway at the Commercial Hotel in Kiel and suffering a skull fracture. He was born July 8, 1959 in Sheboygan, son of Henry and Lorraine Lutz Thiedeman. He graduated from Kiel High School in 1978, and was employed at a house painter. Survivors include his mother of Kiel; his father, Manitowoc; one sister, Bonnie Wagner, Sheboygan, and maternal Grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Lester Lutz, Kiel. BERTHA THIELKE Kiel—(Special—Mrs. Carl Thielke 78, died at her home, 919 N. Sixth Street, Tuesday. She had been ill six months. Nee Bertha Figge, daughter of Henry and Fredericka Figge, she was born in Plymouth on May 22, 1863. Her father died when she was 10 months old and her mother married Anton Klemme of town Schleswig two years later. She was better known as Bertha Klemme. On January 11, 1885, she married Mr. Thielke on the old Carl Thielke homestead, five miles east of Kiel, in town Schleswig, the Rev. Martin Denninger, then pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, Louis Corners, performing the ceremony. The couple lived on the homestead for 33 years and in November 1917, sold it and moved to the present residence. Mrs. Thielke was the last surviving member of a family of eight children. Only survivor is an adopted daughter, Mrs. Emma Milkert, formerly of ‘Chicago, who had been taking care of her mother. CARL THIELKE Death Claimed Carl Thielke, aged 84, at his home Monday afternoon, after being ill for the past three months. Mr. Thielke was born in the town of Schleswig, on the Thielke homestead farm, January 9, 1860. His parents were Carl and Sophia Mueller Thielke. Mr. Thielke took as his life mate Miss Bertha Figge Klemme of the town of Plymouth on January 11, 1885. After their marriage the couple resided on the Thielke homestead for 35 years. In November 1919, they moved to their home at 919 North Sixth Street, this city. He is survived by an adopted daughter, Mrs. Emma Milkert, who resided with him; one brother, Frank F. Thielke of Louis Corners and one sister, Mrs. Henry Klemme of this city. His wife preceded him in death September 16, 1941. ALFRED THIESSEN Alfred J. Thiessen, 58, 902 Third St., Kiel, died at his home Tuesday evening. Death was attributed to a heart attack. He was born June 3, 1908, at Chilton, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Thiessen, and moved at an early age to Kiel, where he attended public schools. On June 29, 1928, he was married to Alma Temreck of Kiel at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ. He was employed the past 15 years at Stoelting Bros., and was service manager for the Dairy Queen machine. Mr. Thiessen was a member of the church choir for 37 years serving as director for the past 15 years; a member of the Kiel Band for 30 years, a past member of the board of directors of the Kiel Municipal Band and assistant conductor for a few years. ALMA THIESSEN Mrs. Alma Thiessen, 67, widow of Alfred J., of 902 3rd St., Kiel, died Thursday afternoon at St. Mary Hospital, Milwaukee, where she had been a patient four weeks. The former Alma Temreck, she was born in Kiel, Oct. 31, 1904, a daughter of the late Ludwig and Augusta Kanske Temreck, and she attended Kiel public schools. On June 29, 1929, she was married to Mr. Thiessen at St. Peter United church of Christ, Kiel. He died Aug. 9, 1966. Mrs. Thiessen had been employed for 54 years at the local newspaper, now the Tri~County Record, where she was author of “Teedles” column and a linotype operator. Most recently, she had been employed by Sohn Manufacturing Co., Elkhart Lake. Mrs. Thiessen was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ, Kiel, and a charter member of its Mendelssohn choir which she named. She was also a charter member of the Yellowbird Council No. 15 Degree of Pocahontas, and chaplain of Kiel Chapter No. 281 Order of Easten Star Lodge. DALE A. THIESSEN LeDale A. Thiessen, 49, of 921 Second St., Kiel, died at his home Sunday night. He had been ill for the past several weeks. He was born July 29, 1933, in Plymouth, a son of the late Alfred and Alma Timreck Thiessen. He graduated from Kiel High School in 1951. Mr. Thiessen served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955. On Sept. 27, 1952, he married Lorraine Reinhardt in Kiel. He was employed at Sohn Manufacturing Co., Elkhart Lake, for 23 years. DR. EDGAR P. THIESSEN Edgar P. Thiessen, 70, director of the Kiel Municipal Band for 50 years and retired head of the instrumental music department at Lakeland College, died Tuesday morning at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton, after apparently suffering a heart attack. Mr. Thiessen, who resided at 2218 Prospect St., New Holstein, was born Oct. 23, 1913, in Kiel, a son of the lat Peter and Meta Langemak Thiessen. He attended Kiel public schools, graduating from Kiel High School in 1931. He received a bachelor and Master of Arts degree in music education from VanderCook College of Music, Chicago, Ill., and an honorary degree from Lakeland College in May 1983. On Oct. 26, 1936 he married Ethel Sy in the town of Eaton. In 1941, he began teaching in the Elkhart Lake school system, continuing in the Kiel School district. In 1956 he began teaching at Lakeland College, where he was head of the instrumental music department. After his retirement in 1976, he taught part time in the music department at Silver Lake College, Manitowoc. He was president of the board of directors of the VanderCook College of Music, and was co-founder of the Lakeland College music recreation camp in 1955. Mr. Thiessen was chairman of the community band division of the national Band Association, and was editor of the American Bandmaster Association’s monthly column in the School Musician Nation Music Magazine. Mr. Thiessen also served six years on the New Holstein City Council. ETHEL E. THIESSEN Ethel E. Thiessen, 88, of New Holstein, died Friday, April 11, 2003 at the Calumet Homestead Rehabilitation Center, New Holstein where she resided for the past several days. The former Ethel Sy, born May 18, 1914, daughter of the late Fred and Lillian Wagner Sy. Ethel attended rural grade school and graduated from Kiel High School. Following graduation, she attended Manitowoc County Teachers College graduated with a degree in elementary education. She taught elementary school in rural Manitowoc County for four years following graduation. On Oct. 26, 1936, she married Edgar P. Thiessen. He preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 1984. On Dec 28, 1986, she married Harvey Schnell, who preceded her in death on Aug. 24, 2000. Ethel was an accomplished pianist and was self-employed as a private piano instructor for mane than 50 years. In addition of her private lessons, she taught adult piano classed at Silver Lake College, Manitowoc, for several years. She was a former member of St. John United church of Christ, New Holstein, where she taught Sunday school for 50 years and served many years as the Sunday School Superintendent. In addition, she was the accompanist for the New Holstein Men’s Chorus for more than 30 years. Ethel was an avid writer and enjoyed watercolor painting during her later years. She was currently a member of St. Peter’s United church of Christ in Kiel. Survivors include three children, Prudence Smith of Howards Grove, Sandra (James) Wise of Green Bay and Terry (Karen) Thiessen of New Holstein. She is also survived by two step- children, Darlene (John) Foreman of Racine and Vernon (Karen) Schnell of Manitowoc; grandchildren and step-grandchildren. She is further survived by two sisters,-in-law, Pearl Thiessen of new Holstein and Myrnabell Sy of Manitowoc. In addition of her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest and John Sy. GILBERT THIESSEN Dr. Gilbert Thiessen 61, a native of Kiel, who had been living in Pittsburgh, Pa., died Friday while on a visit to London, England. LORRAINE M. THIESSEN Lorraine M. Thiessen, age 67 of 21 Gottfried St., Elkhart Lake, died Friday morning, Nov 9, 2001 at her home. She is the former Lorraine Reinhardt, born Feb. 1, 1934 in Sheboygan the daughter of the late Emily and Marie Trost Reinhardt. She was a 1952 graduate of Kiel High School. LUCILE D. THIESSEN Lucille Laun Theissen, 91, of Pittsburgh, Penn., died Friday Dec. 6, 1996. She was born March 14, 1905 in Kiel, and was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin. She was a life-long member of Kiel Presbyterian Church of Wisconsin. She was an avid grower of African violets and former officer of the African Violet Society of Pittsburgh. She was also a long time member of the college Club and of the Women’s Auxiliary of the American Institute of Mining and Metalurgical Engineers. META THIESSEN Mrs. Meta Thiessen, 77 of 624 North St., Kiel, mother of Miss Pearl Thiessen, Kiel city treasurer, died Saturday at the Memorial Hospital in Sheboygan. After residing in that township for a while, they moved to the city of Chilton. Forty years ago they came to Kiel where they have resided since. Mrs. Thiessen was a member of the Kiel Garden club. Survivors include two daughters and two sons; Mrs. Harvey (Elfrieda) Asmus of Fort Atkinson, Alfred of Kiel, Edgar of New Holstein, and Pearl of Kiel. PEARL L. THIESSEN Pearl L. Thiessen, resident of the Homestead Care Center, New Holstein, passed away early Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at the age of 92. Pearl, born on Dec. 23, 1915, was the daughter of the late Fred and Meta (Langemark) Thiessen. She graduated from the Kiel Public Schools. For 19 years, after her graduation, she served as the bookkeeper for the former Kiel Bottling Works. She was treasurer for the City of Kiel from 1943 until 1955. During that time period, she was a student at Mission House/Lakeland College. In September of 1955, Pearl moved to Madison to continue her education in nutrition and food service management at the University of Wisconsin. She earned her undergraduate degree and then her masters of science degree in 1958 from the University. For two years, she worked as a therapeutic dietitian at Deaconess Hospital, Milwaukee. In 1960, she returned to Madison to become the therapeutic, and later administrative dietitian, at Central Wisconsin Center for the Developmentally Disabled. She retired in 1978. For most of her adult life, Miss Thiessen studied and advocated food nutrition as a foundation for good health. This included the study, practice and promotion/support of natural, non-toxic farming and gardening methods. In 1958, she helped organize the Wisconsin Chapter of Natural Food Associates and became the first State President of the State Chapter. She is survived by her nieces and nephews. In addition, Pearl is survived by many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. Thoma, 53, of 217 Third St., Kiel, who died Wednesday evening at Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center, after apparently suffering a heart attack at home. The Rev. Jeffrey Hawkins, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in Kiel Cemetery. Mr. Thoma was born Oct. 9, 1933, in Watertown, son of the late Lester and Viola Simon Thoma. He attended Dodge County School, and served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956. On Feb 1, 1958 he married Beverly Schultz at St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown. Mr. Thoma was employed by the Village of Hustisford until 1978 when they couple moved to Kiel, where he worked as a pole lineman for Kiel Utility Department. Mr. Thoma was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Survivors are his wife; seven daughters, Mrs. John (Sheri) Kronick of Racine, Mrs. Edward (Laura) Welch of Soldotna, Alaska, Mrs. Robert (LeAnna) Ruck of Oxford, and Janet, Janeen, Kristine and Rosemary all at home; eight grandchildren and three brothers, Lloyd of Lake Mills, Earl of Whitewater and Dennis of Jefferson. HELENE A. THOREN Mrs. Helen Thoren, 70, formerly a Kiel resident, died at Burlington, August 3. She was born January 10, 1912 to Emanuel and Martha Roeck in Marshfield. She was a nurse and a member of the United Methodist Church. She worked as an industrial nurse at Tecumseh Products from 1957 to 1961 and after that she was employed in the office of Dr. A. C. ERNA T. TIMM Erna C. Timm, 85, 518 River Terrace, Kiel, died unexpectedly at her home Tuesday afternoon. The former Erna Kasper was born March 2, 1899, in the town of Rantoul, Calumet County, the daughter of William and Marie Menke Kasper. She was a graduate of Kiel High School in 1918, and was employed at AA Laun Furniture Co., Kiel, for six years. She married Melvin Timm on Dec. 26, 1925 in Kiel where the couple lived. Mr. Timm died in 1972. She was the former Florence Schroeder, born March 14, 1898 at Harmoney Ridge- Chaseburg, Wis., daughter of Julius and Amelia Zietlow Schroeder. She attended Enterprise School in Chaseburg, Wis. On June 12, 1924 she married Milton R. Timm at Bethel United Methodist Church, Town of Schleswig. She worked for La Crosse Rubber Mills in the 1920's. Her husband, Milton, preceded her in death on July 22, 1984. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, town of Schleswig and a member of the Women's Society of Christian Service. She is survived by one son, Robert M. Timm, Kiel; four grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by four brothers and eight sisters. Funeral services will be held at Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, with the Rev. Wanda Murray, pastor of Bethel United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Kiel Cemetery.


MELVIN C. TIMM Melvin C. Timm, president of Citizens State Bank of Kiel and chairman of the board and a founder of Kiel Savings and Loan, died Monday night at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital. He was 76. Mr. Timm was affiliated with the bank since 1915. His service with the bank was interrupted briefly when he was drafted by the armed forces during World War I. He became cashier of the bank in 1933 and was elected president in 1969. He was named assitant secretary of Kiel Savings and Loan Association in November, 1919. He became president in April, 1967, and chairman of the board in January, 1971. Mr. Timm was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Kiel, and its choir. He was church organist for 45 years. He was a member of Kiel Lodge F & AM 336, a past master and currently treasurer. He received a 50 year membership certificate award. He also was a member of Kiel Chapter 281, Order of Eastern Star, and Kasper-Beckley-Wilkens American Legion Post, a past president of the Kiel School Board for two terms, a member of the Kiel Area Chamber of Commerce and a 50-year member of the Wisconsin Bankers Association in 1967. Mr. Timm also was active in a wide variety of civic affairs in Kiel. MILTON R. TIMM Milton R. Timm, 85, of 923 fourth St., Kiel, died Sunday morning at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton, where he had been a patient for two weeks. He was born Jan. 18, 1899, in Kiel, a son of the late Charles and Hannah Persohn Timm. He attended Woodland Park School, Town of Schleswig. On June 12, 1924, he married Florence Schroeder, of La Crosse, at Bethel United Methodist Church, Town of Schleswig. He was employed at the former Hingiss and Bessler Co., Kiel for 40 years, retiring in 1964. He was later employed at Pioneer Container Co., New Holstein. Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert, of Milwaukee; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. AUGUSTE TIMRECK Death came suddenly to Mrs. Auguste Timreck, 86, at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mrs. and Mrs. Alfred J. Thiessen Tuesday morning. Mrs. Timreck had arisen as usual about 5 a.m. and made her way down stairs. When she reached the bottom of the stairs, evidently suffered a stroke and fell. Mrs. Thiessen heard her fall and ran down the stairs. She and Mr. Thiessen carried Mrs. Timreck to the davenport and called a physician. Mrs. Timreck died shortly after her fall. Funeral services will be held this afternoon, Thursday, from the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church at 2:00 o’clock. The Rev. E. L. Worthman will conduct the services and interment will be made in the Kiel cemetery. Soloist at the services will be Mrs. Eugene Thieleke and the pallbearers will be grandsons of the deceased; Walter, Ellsworth, and Harvey Buchman, Frederick Rabe, Harvey Kattre and Robert Schad. Mrs. Timreck was born November 8, 1865 in Felsow, Pomerania, Germany, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Kanzke. She married Ludwig Timreck in Rambov, Germany, on December 18, 1887. They came to Kiel on April 18, 1891. Mr. Timreck died in 1914. Mrs. Timreck was one of the oldest member of the Frauenverein of St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church, and the last living member of the Kanzke family. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Alfred (Alma) Thiessen of Kiel and Mrs. Roy (Martha) Meverden of New Holstein; 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Five children preceded her in death. EDWIN TIMRECK CALLED BY DEATH Death claimed Edwin Timreck Monday evening at 9:30, at his home on Third street, after an illness of six weeks. An operation was performed at the Plymouth hospital four weeks ago. He was born in Kiel, July 2, 1902, and was 19 years and nine days old at the time of his demise. This untimely death is mourned by his mother, Mrs. Augusta Timreck, and three sisters, Mrs. Ph. Buchmann of Kiel, Martha and Alma at home. The funeral will take place this, Thursday, afternoon, at 2 o’clock from the home, Rev. Wm. Rech officiating. The young man was a member of the Red Men and the Kiel Firemen, who will attend the funeral in a body. The bereaved family has the sympathy of relatives and friends in their sad affliction. FERDINAND TIMRECK At his home on Tuesday evening at his home, Mr. Ferdinand Timmereck died following an apoplectic stroke he had suffered on Sunday night. The deceased was born in Neitkow, Pommern, Germany. On December 7, 1859 he married Karolina Schroeder. The marriage produced seven children, six of whom survive their father. He came here in 1890 and has lived here ever since. Seven years and seven months ago his wife preceded him in death. He died at the age of 71 years, 2 months and 18 days. The burial will take place next Friday afternoon at two o’clock with Pastor Roeck officiating. IDA TIMRECK CALLED BY DEATH. Once more, with sympathetic sorrow, we record the death of one of our young people - Ida Timreck, who died Tuesday noon of influenza - pneumonia. The young lady had been ill for but little more than one week, at the home of her brother-in-law, Ph. Buchmann, where she was employed and where she died. Ida Timreck, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. Timreck, was born in this village October 17, 1897. Here she grew to young woman-hood, attending the public school, then holding a position in A. Paulsen’s store as clerk, and later; a similar position in Philip Buchmann’s store. In the discharge of her duties she was ever thoughtful and conscientious, and her quiet pleasing manners and cheerful- ness ever won her friends. Besides a widowed mother to mourn her loss, she leaves three sisters - Mrs. Ph. Buchmann, Martha and Alma - and one brother, Erwin. Private funeral services will be held at her home this (Thursday) afernoon, after which there will be a sermon at the Kiel cemetery by Rev. Rech, at two o’clock. LUDWIG TIMRECK On Tuesday afternoon at about 5 PM, Mr. Ludwig Timreck died in his home here, (Kiel) after a lenghty illness of tuberculosis. The deceased was born on November 18, 1862, Rambow, Pommern, Germany and came to America in the year 1891 with his family and immediately settled in Kiel, where he remained, while working at the Kiel Woodenware Company. He leaves behind his mourning wife, four daughters and one son, also a brother and four sisters. The funeral will take place on Friday afternoon, at 2 PM, from the home to the Kiel Cemetery. JOSEPH F. TOLLMAN Joseph F. Tollman, aged 73 of 408 North Highland Avenue, Plymouth, passed away Thursday evening, at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan where he had been a patient the past week. He was born March 31, 1914 in Chicago, the son of the late Jerry and Frances Brettschneider Tollman. He attended schools in Chicago. On December 26, 1936 he was married to Marjorie Fritch in Chicago. The couple lived in Chicago, before moving to Kiel in 1946. In 1963 they moved to Elkhart Lake, where they lived until 1973 when they moved to Plymouth. He had been employed as a truck driver for the ILC Trucking Company until retiring, due to ill health in 1968. He was a member of the Community United Church of Christ of Elkhart Lake, and a member of the Plymouth Senior Citizens organization and played on its dart ball team. He was also a member and past president of the Kettle Moraine CB club. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Patricia (Roger) Hagenow, Elkhart Lake; Mrs. (Darwin) Burger, of Green Bay; one son, Charles (Susan) of Elkhart Lake; eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and one sister, Miss Elsie Tollman, of Chicago; two brothers, Wilbert of Des Plaines, Ill., and Charles of Florida. LUDWIG E. TONHOSE Kiel—Grandfather Louis Tonhouse(sic) passed away on Monday evening from old age at the age of 89 years. He was the step father of Mrs. Hanske of Kiel and a step grandfather of the Marshall Edmund, who was killed in an automobile mishap a year ago. The deceased moved here with his family 20 years ago from Fort Dodge, Iowa. He and his wife celebrated their golden wedding 5 years ago. His wife preceded him in death 2 years ago and he will be buried in the Kiel Cemetery on Thursday afternoon. Plymouth Post, August 28, 1915 ******* Last week we received the news that on August 23, Mr. Ernst Ludwig Tonhose died shortly before 2:30 in the afternoon at the home of his daughter Mrs. Dorothea Hanske from here. The deceased was born on December 29, 1826 near Goldbeck, Hanover, Germany. At the age of 16 years he enlisted in the military and served as a dragoon for nearly 10 years. At age 27, he came to America with his mother and sister, settling first in Baltimore, and a year later moved to Maywood, Illinois. In 1858 he married the widow Mrs. Marie Mitterhausen and ten years later they moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa. In 1902 the couple came to Kiel to their daughter Mrs. Dorothea Hanske. On August 23, 1908 they celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. His wife died three years ago and one daughter died sixteen years ago. One son Louis Tonhose in Duncombe, Iowa, three stepchildren, Henry F. Mitterhausen in Fort Dodge, Iowa, Wm. Mitterhausen in Milwaukee and Mrs. Dorethea Hanske in Kiel, also six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren in Iowa survive him. ESTHER IDA TOWERS Esther I Towers, 88, of Chilton, died Sunday evening, April 5, 1998 at Chilton Health and Rehabilitation Center. She is the former Esther Hingiss born Oct. 5, 1909 in Cleveland, daughter of the late Adolf and Augusta Fischer Hingiss. She attended Kiel Grade School and Kiel High School and was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin- Madison. On Dec. 25, 1931, she married Lewis M. Towers. He preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 1970. Esther was a Home Economics teacher at Kiel High School for many years, retiring in 1976. She was a member of Ebenezer United Church of Christ, Chilton, where she also taught summer school, a charter member of Calumet Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and a student advisor of Future Homemakers of America. Survivors include her children, James (Betty) Towers, Waupun; Ann (Frank) Watson, Minneapolis, Minn.; John Towers, Brunswich, Maine; one sister-in-law, Helen Hingiss; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Edwin, August, Richard and Alfred Hingiss and two sisters, Linda Bessler and Emma Sommers. LEWIS MCLEISH TOWERS Lewis M. Towers, 66, of 19 River Lane, Chilton, retired plant superintendent of he Carnation Milk Co. plant in Chilton, died of an apparent heart attack at his home early today. Mr. Towers had been with Carnation from 1954 until his retirement last year. Since then he had taught remedial reading in Chilton elementary schools. Active in many community organizations he was president of the board of Calumet Memorial Hospital, a member of the Chilton Kiwanis Club and a Boy Scout leader. He was born in the Town of Caledonia (Columbia County) on July 15, 1904, son of the late James S. and Margaret McLeish Towers. He attended Portage High School and graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1929. He married the former Esther Hingiss of Kiel, Dec. 25, 1931. Survivors include his wife; two sons, James of Waupun and John of Huntington Beach, Calif.; one daughter, Anne of Huntington Beach; five grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Florence Stewart of Poynette and Mrs. Ralph (Iva) Dalton of Portage and a brother, Robert of Arroyo Grande, Calif. MARY BURMAHLN BELITZ TUERPE Dead At the house of her sister in Chicago Mrs. Mary Tuerpe, born as a Burmahln, died at the 27th of April after she had spent only three days in bed sick with Asthma being 64 years and two months old. She had been born in Heide, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany at the 28th of February in 1830(sic) and came to America in 1857 together with her parents, who settled down in Town Schleswig on a farm which is now run by John Burmahln, right away. In the same year she got married to Wilhelm Belitz who bult the first hotel in Kiel close to the train station in 1864. (The same is now run by Frank Kretsch.) Mr. Belitz died in 1880. In 1881 she married Oswald Tuerpe, who had taken over the hotel but later sold it to Gottfried Lueloff. Henceforth they moved to California, a year later to Sheboygan and then to Cleveland, Wis., where Mr. Tuerpe built a new hotel. In 1890 Mr. Tuerpe got killed when his horses went wild by breaking his neck after he got thrown out of the buggy near the Pigeon River in Sheboygan. After that Mrs. Tuerpe sold the hotel to her two sons and moved to Chicago to live at her sister's house where after all she died. The body was brought here last week Thursday and burried(sic) insisted by the house of her brother John Burmahln at the Kiel cemetery under the leadership of Pastor Roedl. At the funeral following persons from further away were present: The son-in-law John Milton (former local station agent) and his wife from Hago, Wisc., the son-in-law Alfred Frerk and his wife, as well as both of her sisters Albertine Frerk and Louise Haenze from Chicago, both of her sons Wilhelm and Robert Belitz from Cleveland, besides their wifes(sic), and Mich. Mrs. Tuerpe, who married twice, is the mother of the Belitz brothers in Cleveland, Wisconsin, and is counted among the earliest settlers of Manitowoc County. In recent years she has been living at her daughter’s residence in Chicago. She was 68 and was respected by all who knew her. Her lifeless body was transported to Kiel for burial. OSWALD TUERPE Death of Oswald Tuerpe, a resident of Cleveland. He had gone to Sheboygan on Sun. and had started home that evening with his stepson, Robert Belitz. Somehow the wagon overturned and he was found in the road, dead of a broken neck. His senseless son was taken to St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan. Mr. Tuerpe, age 44, came to America about 15 yrs. ago from Germany on a concert tour with a military band. After leaving the band he settled in Centerville, then married the widow Belitz who had a guesthouse in Kiel. He was buried yesterday in the Kiel Cemetery. He is survived by his widow, 3 stepchildren, and in Germany by his mother and a brother who is cornet virtuoso Hugo Tuerpe. Der Nord Westen, 14 May 1891 ******** Oswald Turpie (sic) of Cleveland village, Centerville, was killed near Sheboygan on Sunday by being thrown from a buggy, while on his way home. He was accompanied by his step-son Robert Belitz and when two miles north of the city the horses ran away. Turpie was thrown from the buggy and his neck was broken causing instant death. Belitz received some internal inuries but it is thought he will recover. Turpie was postmaster at Kiel under Cleveland's administraton. He resigned and went to California, but not liking that state he returned to Centerville and built a hotel. He was a man of high character and quite liberally educated. Manitowoc Pilot, Thursday, May 14, 1891 P. 3 ******** THROWN FROM HIS BUGGY Oswald Tuerpe, a Centerville Hotel-keeper Instantly Killed Sheboygan, Wis., May 10. – This afternoon, while Oswald Tuerpe, a hotel-keeper at Centerville station, and his step-son, Robert Belitz, were driving home from this city, the horses ran away, and Mr. Tuerpe was thrown from the buggy and instantly killed. The accident occurred near the iron works, about two miles from the city, and while going down a steep hill. Both men were thrown out, and Mr. Belitz was badly injured internally. He was brought to a hospital here, and it is thought he will recover. Mr. Tuerpe's neck was probably broken, as he was dead when picked up, a moment after the accident. GORDON H. UMLAND Gordon H. Umland, of Kiel, a well known and respected businessman, passed away Feb 19, 2011. He was born May 24, 1927, in Antigo, son of the late Herbert and Marie (Brumm) Umland. Gordy was a 1945 graduate of Birnamwood High School and attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, majoring in the dairy industry. Gordy most recently was a senior planner and certified senior adviser. He was the founder and owner of insurance agencies for 40 years, selling the general insurance agency, Murphy-Umland Insurance, in 1992 and the senior services agency in 2010. Gordy was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel. He also was a 40-year member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors -- Society of Certified Senior Advisors, a past member of both the Kiel and New Holstein Chamber of Commerce, and a long time member of the Coalition of Wisconsin Aging Groups and American Association of Long Term Care. He enjoyed hunting in the Shawano County area. Survivors include three sons, Steven (Sue) Umland, Whitefish Bay, Scott (Jane) Umland, New Holstein, and Shawn Umland, Minocqua; four grandchildren, (private); treasured nieces and nephews, Lori Turba Rogers (the Rev. Roy H.) and their children, (private), and Marta Turba; special friend and business partner for 43 years, Lucille Murphy; other close relatives and friends. MARGARET A. UMLAND Margaret A. Umland, 72, of 408 Calumet Ave., Kiel, died unexpectedly, Friday morning Oct. 26, 2001 at her home. She is the former Margaret Ruch, born Sept. 21, 1929 in Clintonville, daughter of the late William and Hilda Witzke Ruch. She was a graduate of Wittenberg High School. She was formerly married to Gordon Umland of Kiel. Margaret worked at various jobs in the Kiel area and most recently at Sargento Cheese, Plymouth. Margaret was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel and the SECAP Sargento Singers. She also volunteered for various community groups. She enjoyed spending time with her children and family. Survivors include her three sons, Steve (Sue) Umland of Whitefish Bay, Scott (Jane) Umland of New Holstein and Shawn Umland of Minocqua; four grandchildren. She is further survived by two brothers, William Ruch of Wittenberg, Fred Ruch of Clintonville and one sister, Arbella Jannusch of Clintonville.
