EDWINA MEINERT Private funeral services for Miss Edwina Meinert, 86, a resident of Calumet Homestead, New Holstein, and a former Kiel resident, who died Tuesday will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel. The Rev. Thomas Leannah, pastor of Ss, Peter and Paul Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Kiel. She was born Dec. 23, 1900 in Kiel, a daughter of John and Mary (Klauck) Meinert. Miss Meinert was a graduate of Kiel High School. She worked for the former Kiel Telephone Exchange Co., was a secretary for the former Dr. Vandesan of Kiel, and worked at the former Kiel movie theater. Miss Meinert was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, and its Christian Mothers Society. Surviving is a brother, Harvey of Cedar Lake. (No newspaper or date)

HARVEY MEINERT Harvey W. Meinert, 82, of 14009 Rokilio Road, Kiel, died Sunday afternoon, February 10, 1991, at his home, of an apparent heart attack. He was born December 29, 1908, in Kiel, son of the late John and Mary Klauck Meinert. He was a graduate of Kiel High School. He was employed at H. G. Weber Company, in Kiel, as a service engineer until his retirement. He was a veteran of World War II, in the U. S. Army. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and bowler. He was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, and the Kiel VFW Post 6707. Survivors include one nephew, James Meinert, of Grover City, Calif.; four nieces, Mrs. Deloris (Meinert) Konen, of Kiel; Mrs. Joann Duessing, of Sheboygan; Mrs. Margaret Kieffer of Sheboygan; Mrs. Mary Mliner, of Milwaukee. He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. Funeral mass will be held Thursday at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, with the Rev. Thomas Leannah, pastor, officiating. JOHN MEINERT (d. 1940) John C. Meinert Of Kiel Is Summoned At Hospital Here. Kiel. - (Special)- John C. Meinert, Sr., 67, well-known Kiel resident, passed away in Sheboygan at St. Nicholas hospital at 3 a.m., today. Taken sick a week ago, he was removed to the hospital Friday. He was born in the town of New Holstein, Nov. 26, 1872, son of Peter and Catherine Meinert. He received his early education in the Kiel public school, and then operated a grain and feed elevator with his brother-in-law, the late William Maetthaeus. Later, they operated the Kiel Grain and Milling company. Mr. Meinert was also employed for some time by the Kiel Furniture company, but was in business with his brother-in-law for 25 years. On May 18, 1899, he was married to Mary Klauck, of Kiel, and the couple had resided at Kiel at 620 N. Fourth street since. Survivors are his wife and four children, Miss Edwina, at home, Mrs. Edmund (Loraine) Stahl, of Sheboygan, John Jr., of Kiel, and Harvey, at home; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Pauline Greve of Kiel, and Mrs. Paul Reiss of Andes, Montana. One sister, Mrs. Mary Maetthaeus, preceded him in death in April, 1932. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 o'clock at the Meiselwitz Funeral home here, with interment in the Kiel cemetery. JOHN P. MEINERT (d. 1987) A funeral Mass for John P Meinert, 80, of 627 Paine St., Kiel, who died Monday, will be held Thursday at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. The Rev. Thomas Leannah, pastor, will be celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Meinert was born Jan. 12, 1907, in Kiel, the son of the late John and Mary Klauck Meinert. He attended Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Kiel. On Oct. 20, 1933, he married Maria Gross at Holy Name Catholic Church in Sheboygan. Mr. Meinert was employed at Stoelting Brothers in Kiel for 32 years before retiring in 1971. Survivors are his wife, Marie; one daughter, Doloris Meinert of Kiel; one son, James of Grover City, Calif., six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one brother, Harvey of Cedar Lake; and one sister, Edwina Meinert of New Holstein. MARIE S. MEINERT Marie “Grammie” S. Meinert, 89, of 627 Paine St., Kiel, died Friday, Oct. 10, 1997 at her home. She is the former Marie Gross, born April 10, 1908 in Schulz, Russia, daughter of the late Gottfried and Sophia Gross. She was educated in Russia and Germany and also attended vocational school in Sheboygan. On Oct. 20, 1933 she married John Meinert at Holy Name Catholic Church in Sheboygan. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1984. Her husband died on Feb. 23, 1987. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening and traveling. She spent her life devoted to God and her family. Survivors include one daughter, Doloris “Honey” (James) Meinert Konen of Kiel; one son, James (Rose) Meinert of Grover Beach, Calif.; six grandchildren; three brothers, Harvey (Arliss) Gross, Harry (June) Gross, and Harland (Evelyn) Grosshuesch, all of Sheboygan; four sisters, Emma (Roy) Steinhardt of Kiel, Gloria (LeRoy) Milz and Marion Haas, all of Sheboygan, Deloris (Roger) Summins of California; three nieces and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters and one great grandchild. Funeral services were held at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home in Kiel, with the Rev. She was married on May 18 1898 to John Meinert of Kiel. The couple lived in Kiel where Mr. Meinert operated a grain business. He died in 1940. Mrs. Meinert was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Church, Kiel, and was a charter member of the Christian Mothers Society of the church. Surviving are two daughters, two sons, five grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Benjamin of Milwaukee. CARL MEISEL Charles Meisel Of Kiel Summoned Following Stroke. Charles Meisel, aged 75, well-known Kiel resident, died suddenly at his home, 714 St. Paul street, Tuesday evening at 9 o'clock after suffering a heart stroke. Throughout the day he had been in his usual state of health. Mr. Meisel was born on a farm in the town of New Holstein, July 28, 1859, and was married to Miss Mary Schwob, also of that township, on April 14, 1885. Following their marriage, the couple located on a farm one and one-half miles north of New Holstein, and for the past twenty years the Meisel family has resided in Kiel. Mr. Meisel is well known in the community of Kiel as an auctioneer. Six children were born to the couple, one having died in infancy. Survivors are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Mathias (Anna) Grossmeier of Milwaukee, and four sons, Joseph Meisel of Sheboygan Falls, John of Milwaukee, William at home, Edward of Milwaukee, seventeen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Kiel. - Funeral services for the late Charles Meisel who passed away at his home at 711 St. Paul street on Christmas Day evening, were held at the C.J. A George Schmid, pastor of St. John's Reformed church of New Holstein was in charge of the services and burial was made in the Kiel cemetery. Pallbearers were: John Adams, Fred Zarnoth, Sr., Joseph kUep, Charles Petzoldt, Harry Goebel and John Balz. The Senior Choir of the St. Peter Reformed church, sang "Heb Mich Hoeher," "Mann Sch- flein Geht Behende" and " --- Des Heils". ELIZABETH (FAUST) MELGER A 60-year-old Kiel woman died following a traffic accident in far northern Sheboygan County late Friday afternoon, but authorities were not certain today whether the death of Elizabrth L. Melger was the result of injuries sustained when her car was struck by a truck or due to a heart attack after the crash. Sheboygan County Coroner Robert Kulhanek ordered an autopsy. Sheriff's officers said Mrs. Melger, of 710 Fourth St., Kiel, was eastbound on the county line road at 5:10 P.M. Friday, stopped for the stopsign at Highway 42 in the Town of Herman and then pulled into the path of a southbound J.L. Scheffler Transport truck driven by (private) Authorities indicated that Mrs. Melger appeared to be alright immediately after the mishap but then died. A passenger in her car (private), sustained lacerations to her head and rib injuries and was taken to St. Nicholas Hospital by Orange Cross Ambulance, where she was in fair condition today. Mrs. Melger, the former Elizabeth Faust, was born July 27, 1918, in the Town of Rhine, a daughter of the late Adam and Mary Dorn Faust. She attended Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Kiel. On Nov. 15, 1941, she and Joseph C. Melger were married at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. The couple resided in Sheboygan Falls briefly and then moved to Route 2, New Holstein. Mr. Melger died August 19, 1951. Mrs. Melger moved to Kiel seven months ago. She was employed at Tecumseh Products Co., New Holstein. She was a member of the Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, its Christian Mothers Society and the Evening Sunshine Club. (Survivors omitted for privacy) She was preceded in death by two brothers. Burial will be in the Ss. JOSEPH CHRIST MELGER Joseph Christ Melger, 41, passed away at 8:10 PM Sunday at St. Nicholas hospital in Sheboygan. He had been ill for three years. The deceased lived on Route 2, New Holstein, near Marytown, in the town of Calumet, Fond Du Lac county. He was born in the town of Herman on May 21, 1910, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Melger. On Nov. 15, 1941, he was married to Elizabeth Faust of the town of Rhine. The couple lived in Sheboygan Falls for four years. For the past six years, they resided on a farm near Marytown. During that time Mr. Melger was employed at Richardson Bros. Company in Sheboygan Falls. The survivors include his wife; two sons, his father, Frank Melger, of Sheboygan Falls, and the following brothers and sisters: Paul of California, Harry and John of Sheboygan Falls, Ray of Sheboygan, Mrs. Al (Helen) Gall, Mrs. Joseph (Eleanor) Prepster of Sheboygan Falls, and Mrs. Willard (Anna) Schiebl of Cleveland. Funeral services will be held at 9 AM Wednesday at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home in Kiel, and at 10 o'clock at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marytown. The Rev. Warren Abramson will officiate and burial will be made in the Ss. Pater and Paul Cemetery in Kiel. Mr Melger was a member of the Holy name Society. ANNA MENNE Miss Anna Menne, 73, of 508 Chicago St., Kiel, died early Sunday at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, where she was a patient five days. She was born Oct. 26, 1900 in the Town of Rhine, a daughter of the late Philip and Caroline Ecker Menne. She later moved to Kiel with her parents, where she attended Kiel Public schools and graduated from Kiel High School in 1918. She was a co-owner of East Side Grocery in Kiel and later was employed in the sales department of Lake to Lake Dairy in Kiel. Miss Menne retired eight years ago. She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, and the Kiel Senior citizens. Survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Klauck and Mrs. Edward Jeanty, both of Kiel. A brother preceded her in death. The deceased, nee Caroline Becker, was the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Becker, and was born in Ludwigshoho, Rheinhessen Darmstadt, Germany, August 31, 1876. In 1883 she came to this country with her parents, to the town of Rhine. She was married to Philip Menne of the town of Rhine on January 14, 1896, and the couple located on a farm in the town of Rhine until 1905, when they moved to this city. Mr. Menne passed away August 7, 1930. Of the four children born to them three survive, a son Peter having passed away on October 22, 1933. Survivors are three daughters, namely: Mrs. Arthur (Elsie) Klauck, and the Misses Anna and Hilda of this city; six grandchildren; her aged mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Becker of Glenbeulah; three sisters—Mrs. William Gottsacker of Sheboygan, Mrs. Henry Ziegler of Glenbeulah, and Mrs. Mathilda Trowbridge of Hayward, and two brothers, Adam Becker of the town of Russell, and Henry Becker of Elkhart Lake. IDA MENNE Ida F. Menne, 94, a resident of Part Lawn Home, Manitowoc, a former Kiel resident, died November 30, at Park Lawn, where she had been a resident for three years. She is the former Ida Franzen, born on November 5, 1895, at Hilbert, daughter of the late William and Augusta Franzen. She attended school in Hilbert. On May 25, 1920, she married Raymond J., Menne at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Hilbert. Her husband died January 21, 1959. She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, the Christian Mothers Society and American Legion Auxiliary in Manitowoc. Survivors include one son-in-law, Robert Berrens of Manitowoc; one brother, Herbert Franzen of Sheboygan Falls; and one sister, Margaret Phillips, of Lombard, Illinois. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lois, in 1974. The funeral Mass was held on Tuesday at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, with the Rev. Menne of Kiel and Miss Ida Franzen of Hilbert, took place on Tuesday morning at the Catholic Church in that village. After the ceremony a wedding dinner was served at the home of the bride's parents. The young couple departed on a wedding trip and will reside in Sheboygan after their return. Mr. Menne is employed at the plant of the Falls Motor Corporation. The bride has been operator at the Telephone exchange in Sheboygan for a number of years. Both young people have a host of friends who join in wishing them much happiness in life's journey. MARGRETHA MENNE Mrs. Margaret Menne, nee Schad, died at her home there Sunday evening, having reached the age of 79 years. She had been an invalid for the past eight years, and for the past four weeks had been bedridden. The deceased was born Feb. 10, 1849 in Rhienprovinz, Germany. At the age of 14 she came to this country with her parents, settling in School Hill, where she grew to womanhood. She was married two times, her second husband being Peter Menne, to whom she was married July 14, 1874. She is survived by one daughter of her first union, Mrs. Charles Guetzloe. The following step-children survive; Mrs. Peter Daleiden, and Mrs. Joseph Klein, and Henry, Philip and Joseph Menne of Kiel, and Jacob Menne of Oklahoma. Peter Menne died 24 years ago, and his wife had lived in Kiel ever since. The funeral services will be held this Thursday morning at the Sts. Peter and Paul church, the Rev. A. PETER MENNE (d. 1904) Last week Thursday morning, a well-known area resident and citizen of Kiel, Mr. Peter Menne was called by death, and the line of original settlers of the area has been reduced. The cause of death was attributed to urinary disease. The deceased first saw the light of the world in Kieselbach in the Rhein province of Germany on October 8, 1834 and reached the age of 70 years, 10 months and 10 days. As a 10 year old boy he came to America with his parents who first came to Milwaukee and shortly thereafter settled in Mequon, later moving to the Town of Rhine where Mr. Menne lived until eight years ago, when he moved to Kiel for his retirement years. Mr. Menne was married twice, first to Mary Urban who blessed him with nine children during their 18 years of marriage. Besides them, he leaves behind one brother Philipp in the Town of Rhine and two sisters, Anna in Minnesota and Katharina in Sheboygan. The burial took place on Monday morning with numerous mourners from near and far who held the deceased in high esteem. Mr. Menne was born on a farm in Town Rhine on March 14, 1898 and at the age of eight years, he came to Kiel with his parents. From the time he was graduated from Kiel High school in 1916 until last November, Mr. Menne was a bookkeeper in the Kiel Cold Storage plant at Kiel. His marriage to Miss Rose Schnell of Kiel took place on Nov. 19, 1918. The son of the late Peter and Margaret Menne, the diseased(sic) was born on a farm in the town of Rhine, August 17, 1863. Here he grew to manhood and on Jan. 14, 1896, he was united in marriage to Miss Caroline Becker, also a resident of town Rhine. After their marriage the couple settled on a farm there, and remained for nine years. For the past 25 years they made their home in Kiel, Mr. Menne being employed at the Kiel Furniture Co. plant. Four children were born to them, all of whom survive, They are Mrs. Arthur Klauck of Kiel, the Misses Anna and Hilda at home, and Peter, also of this city. Three sisters and three brothers also mourn his passing: Mrs. Catherine Daleiden, Mrs. Joseph Klein, and Mrs. Charles Guetzloe of here, and Henry and Joseph of Kiel, and Jacob, who lives in Oklahoma. RAYMOND J. MENNE Raymond J. Menne, 65, of 926 6th St., Kiel, died Wednesday afternoon at St. Nicholas Hospital following a long illness. Born April 5, 1893, in Kiel, the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Juggenheimer Menne, he attended the public schools and graduated from the Kiel High School in 1912. He later attended the Oshkosh Normal School. He served in World War I with Btty. D., 14th Field Artillery, from June, 1917, until his discharge in April, 1919. On May 25, 1920, he was married to Miss Ida Franzen of Hilbert at St. Mary's Catholic Church at HIlbert. Following their marriage they made their home in Sheboygan for 13 years before moving to Kiel where he was employed as a machinist at the H.C. Weber Co., until his retirement last April. He was a member of the Kasper-Beckley-Wilkens American Legion Post No. 99 and the Holy Name Society of St. Peter and St. Paul Church at Kiel. He was a past commander of the Legion Post and also a past commander of the Manitowoc County Legion. Survivors are his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Lois) Berrens of Manitowoc. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter and St. Paul Church following brief rites at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home. The Rev. F.X. ROSE MENNE Mrs. Rose Menne, 80, of 55 Chicago Street, Kiel, widow of Peter, died at her home on Friday afternoon after a short illness. The former Rose Schnell, she was born on August 8, 1896 in the Town of Eaton, the daughter of John and Anna Herr Schnell. She attended district school, and parochial school in St. Nazianz. On November 19, 1918 she was married to Mr. Menne at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. Her husband died on October 17, 1933. She was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, its Christian Mothers Society, the Kiel Senior Citizens and the Tri-County VFW Auxiliary. ANNA MERTENS Mrs. Anna Mertens, 80, Dies At Son's Farm Home Near Kiel. Kiel, Wis. -(Special)- Mrs. Jacob Mertens, 80, passed away at 5:30 a.m. today at the farm home of her son, Clemens, one mile west of here after a lingering illness of about six months. Mrs. Mertens, who was formerly Miss Anna Hanert, daughter of the late Nicholas and Jeanette Hanert, was born at St. Anna, Wis., July 19, 1858. She married Jacob Mertens, also of St. Anna, Sept. 23, 1880. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in Kiel in 1930. After their marriage they located on the Mertens homestead, now operated by Clemens Mertens, where they lived for 34 years. In the fall of 1914 they turned the farm over to their son and moved to Kiel where they resided until five years ago when they returned to the homestead. She was a member of the Christian Mothers' society of St. and Peter and St. Paul Catholic church at Kiel. They were the parents of eight children, five of whom died in infancy. Mrs. Mertens is survived by her husband, three sons, Clemens, Edwin and Arthur of Kiel; three sisters, Mrs. L.P. Fox of Chilton, Mrs. Peter Westenberger of Sherwood, and Mrs. Sophie Rach of St. Anna; two brothers, J.B. Hanert of Kiel, and John Hanert of Milwaukee; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He moved to Kiel in 1920 and was employed at the Stoelting Brothers Co. from then until 1949. Until his retirement in 1955 he was employed at the H. Lulloff and Sons Co. in Kiel. His wife died in July, 1937. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Louis (Elsie) Groeschel of Marytown and Mrs. Elroy (Ruby) Broehm of Kiel; two sons, Jerome of Kiel and Arthur Jr. of Milwaukee; and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. CLEMENS MERTENS Clemens Mertens Dies At Home Wednesday Clemens Mertens, well-known in Kiel and vicinity, died at his home early Wednesday morning. Heart failure was the cause of death. He was born on April 16, 1885, in the town of New Holstein, and lived all his life on the homestead farm 1-1/2 miles west of Kiel. He was the son of Anna, nee Hanert, and Jacob Mertens. On June 25, 1913, he was married to Marie Menne, by Fr. Theodore Koehe of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic church of this city. Ten children blessed the marriage, Leo of Kiel, Francis and Jeanette (Mrs. Ralph Hansen), Milwaukee, Robert of New Holstein, Ray of Pewaukee, James, Clemens, Jr., and Kathryn at home and Sr. Mary Clement and Sr. Marie Andre at the Holy Family convent near Manitowoc. A brother, Arthur Mertens of Kiel, also survives as do five grandchildren. His brother Edwin preceded him in death in 1945. Funeral service will be conducted at 9:00 at the Meiselwitz funeral home and at 9:30 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic church. The Holy Name society, of which the deceased was a member, will recite the rosary at 7:30 Friday evening in the church.


EDWIN MERTENS Edwin Mertens Of Near Kiel Is Called To Rest Kiel. – Edwin Robert Mertens, 56, well-known farmer who resides one and one-half miles west of this city, passed away Saturday morning at St. Nicholas hospital, Sheboygan, where he had been confined the past several days. Born in the town of New Holstein on Dec. 28, 1888, the son of Jacob and Anna Hanert Mertens, the deceased spent his entire life in this vicinity. On Jan. 27, 1911, he was united in marriage with Miss Rose Horsch of Marytown, and the couple since that time has lived on the present homestead near here. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Isadore (Elsina) Zorn, at home, and Mrs. Frank (Evelyn) Groeschel, Calumet Harbor; five grandchildren, and two brothers, Clemence, who resides near Kiel, and Arthur, of this city. Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Meiselwitz Funeral home and at 10 a.m. at St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic church here. The Rev. F.X. JACOB MERTENS Jacob Mertens, 88, former Kiel resident, died early today aat the homestead farm, now operated by his son, Clemence, in New Holstein, a mile west of Kiel. He was born in St. Anna, Calumet county, in 1855 and in 1880 married Miss Anna Hanert. They operated a farm in New Holstein for 34 years, moved to Kiel in 1914 and back to the homestead in 1933. Mrs. Mertens died in 1938. Survivors are three sons, Arthur of Kiel, Edwin of Schleswig, clemence, of New Holstein; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Voelker, of St. Anna, Mrs. Anton Herzog, of New Holstein, 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. JEROME J. MERTENS Jerome “Jerry” J. Mertens, 80, of 920 Sixth St., Kiel, died peacefully Thursday morning, July 30, 1998 at his home. He was born October 8, 1917 in the Town of Schleswig, son of the late Arthur J. and Mary Horsch Mertens. He attended Ss. Peter and Paul Grade school and was a 1936 graduate of Kiel High School. On Oct. 30, 1940 he married Sylvia Pohl at the parsonage of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Plymouth. The couple owned and operated Mertens Clover Farm Grocery Store from 1944–1949 and Mertens Western Auto Store, Kiel until 1962. Jerry was employed at office manager for AA Laun Company, Kiel from 1969 until his retirement in 1980. He was very active both in city and county positions being appointed Treasurer, Assessor and Building Inspector for the City of Kiel from 1964–1992, he was elected to the Manitowoc County Board of Supervisors from 1980–1992, a member of the Finance and Personnel Committee, a committee member for Ageing and Senior Citizens, a member of the Community Options Program for 12 years, and served on the Manitowoc County Red Cross Board of Directors for Finance and Transpiration for six years. He was a life long member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, serving on several committees. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Sylvia, one brother, Arthur (Shirley) Mertens, Ocala, Fla., one sister, Elsie Nadler, New Holstein, numerous nephews, nieces and cousins and a very special friend, Mary K. July of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth, performed the service last Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock which united in holy wedlock, Miss Sylvia H. Pohl, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roland O. Pohl of Hulls Crossing and at one time residents here and Jerome J. Mertens, eldest son of Arthur Mertens of this city. The bride was attired in a white embossed taffeta gown, fashioned with a long train and sweetheart neckline. She wore a veil which was held in place with a crown of seed pearls and orange blossoms. In her arms she carried an all white bouquet of carnations and pompoms. The bride's sister, Miss Elsie Pohl was the maid of honor and she wore a coral rose taffeta dress with matching headdress. Miss Evelyn Rick, cousin of the bride was the bridesmaid and she was attired in a blue taffeta gown with matching headdresses. Both carried arm bouquets of roses and pompoms. Arthur Mertens Jr.attended his brother as best man and John Schnell attended as groomsman. Following the service a wedding supper was served at the Laack's Hotel in Plymouth for 20 guests. In the evening the couple was honored with a wedding dance at the Brooklyn Hall. LEO J. MERTENS Leo J. Mertens, age 95, of Kiel, died peacefully at his home on Saturday morning, March 20, 2010. He was born January 27, 1915 in the Town of New Holstein, son of the late Clemens and Marie (Menne) Mertens. Leo was a 1933 graduate of Kiel High School. On August 30, 1939 he married Fay Olmsted at Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. Leo had worked at AA Laun Furniture in Kiel for many years retiring in 1977. He was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel and the Holy Name Society as well as the Catholic Order of Foresters. He also was a lifetime member of the Kiel Fish and Game, a former member of the Kiel area school board and a member of the Kiel Fire Department for 67 years, holding the office of Treasure for 38 of those years. He retired from active service with the Fire Department with the rank of Captain. Leo enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, hunting, attending and watching Packer games, the Thursday morning bowling league and visiting the farm. MARIE MERTENS Marie Mertens, 97, a former Kiel resident, died Saturday morning at Calumet Homestead, New Holstein, where she had been a resident for two years. The former Marie Menne was born may 20, 1887, in the town of Rhine, a daughter of the late John and Anna Mueller Menne. She graduated from Plymouth High School. On June 25, 1913, she married Clemens Mertens in Kiel. He died in July 1, 1947. She taught school for a number of years in the town of Mosel, and after marriage the couple farmed in rural Kiel on the Park Farm homestead. Mrs. Mertens was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, its Christian Mothers Society, Catholic Order of Foresters, the Frauenverein, the Kasper-Beckley-Wilkens American Legion Auxiliary, Kiel Senior Citizens, the Homemakers, and was a volunteer at the Salvatorian Center. Survivors include five sons, Leo, of Kiel, Robert of New Holstein, Ray of Pewaukee, James of rural Kiel and Clemens Jr. of Oneida; four daughters, Mrs. Jeanette Hansen of Milwaukee, Sister Mary Jane Mertens of Menominee, Mich., Sister Doris Mertens of Green Bay, and Mrs. Edward (Katherine) Shumaker of Waukegan, Ill.; 36 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; a brother, Ray Menne of Branson, Mo.; and two sisters, Mrs. Clara Stark of Hales Corners, and Mrs. Eleanor Schubert of Waukesha. MARY MERTENS Mrs. Arthur Mertens, 47, Passes Away on Monday After an illness of almost two years duration, Mrs. Arthur Mertens, aged 47, was called to rest at 5 p.m. Monday. Mrs. Mertens had been failing in health for the past three years. The deceased was born on a farm at Marytown, the daughter of the late Theodore and Gertrude Horsch, on August 20, 1890. On September 3, 1912, she was united in marriage to Arthur Mertens of near here, by the Rev. Fr. Stehling at St. Mary's church at Marytown. After their marriage the couple resided on a farm in Chalesrburg (Charlesburg) for one and one-half years before moving onto what was known as the Adam Kazmeier farm, one mile east of here. On May 23, 1920, they disposed of this farm to Louis Spindler and the family moved to this city. Following are the survivors: Her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Louis (Elsie) Groeschl of Chilton, and Ruby at home; two sons, Jerome and Arthur at home; one grandson, Charles Groeschl; four sisters, Mrs. Edwin Mertens, near here; Mrs. Henry Mertes of St. Cloud; Mrs. Joseph Horsch of Marytown, and Mrs. Edward Wick of Glenbeulah; and her step- mother, Mrs. Theodore Horsch of St. Cloud. A sister, Mrs. Edgar Burg of Oak Forest, Ill., died February 3 of this year, and her father, passed away on May 26, also of this year. Her mother preceded her in death twenty years ago. Funeral services were held this Thursday morning at 9 a.m. at the family residence and at 9:30 a.m. at the Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic church, with the Rev. Fr. J.J. Esdepsky officiating. Burial was made in the church cemetery.


ROSE MERTENS Mrs. Rose Mertens, 86, a former Kiel resident, died Friday morning at Calumet Homestead, New Holstein. The former Rose Horsch was born April 28, 1892, in Marytown, a daughter of Theodore and Gertrude Schneider Horsch. She attended St. Mary Catholic School at Marytown. On Jan. 17, 1911, she married Edwin Mertens at Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Marytown. The couple farmed west of Kiel. He died Mary 12, 1945. She lived there until 1957 when she moved to Kiel. She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, and its Christian Mothers Society. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Groeschel, of Pipe, Wis.; six grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 12 great great grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Guelig of Theresa. She was preceded in death by a daughter, four sisters and two brothers. The Rev. Francis Kerschel, pastor, will celebrate a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the SS. SYLVIA H. MERTENS Sylvia H. Mertens, age 89, of Kiel, died Monday evening, April 12, 2010 at Willowdale Nursing and Rehab Center, New Holstein. She was the former Sylvia Pohl, born May 1, 1920 in Pigeon Lake, daughter of the late Roland and Alma (Ruh) Pohl. Sylvia attended Hulls Crossing Grade School and Glenbuelah High School. On October 30, 1940 she married Jerome Mertens at St. John the Baptist Parsonage in Plymouth. He preceded her in death on July 30, 1998. Sylvia was in business with her husband Jerry for 20 years. She also was a retail clerk, waitress and seamstress, retiring in 1982. She was a life-long member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel and a 50-year member of the Women's Guild of the church. She also was a volunteer at the Kiel nutrition site and a member of the Kiel Senior Club. Since 1984 she had been an R.S.V.P (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) member for Manitowoc County and was a former member of the Kiel Singing Seniors. Sylvia's mother taught her to embroidery at the age of 7 and it became a lifetime hobby. She also enjoyed flower arranging, playing 31 and baking cupcakes for birthdays. Survivors include her beloved Godchild, Mary Olm of Kiel; one brother, Wallace (Dottie) Pohl, Sparta; two sisters, Alice Noordyk, Plymouth, Elsie Schuricht, Menomonee Falls. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and her father- and mother-in-law. CHARLES MEYER Charles R. Meyer, 73, of 511 Broadway Ave., Kiel, died at 3:30 this morning at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan following a lengthy illness. He was born on April 16, 1883 in the Town of Schleswig, the son of the late John and Frances Meyer. He attended parochial school at St. Nazianz and on Oct. 15, 1907, was married tot he former Mary Schneider of Town Meeme. The marriage was performed at St. Fidelis Church in Spring Valley. The couple operated a farm in the Town of Centerville for several years before moving to a farm in Schleswig where they lived for the next 28 years until his retirement in 1942. He was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis and a member of the Holy Name Society. Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel following brief services at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home at 9:30. The Rev. F.X. HENRY P. MEYER (d. 1987) Henry P. Meyer, 77, of 22419 Mueller Road, Kiel, died September 9, at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan, where he was a patient for one week. He was born April 10, 1910, in Manitowoc County, son of the late Charles and Mary (Schneider) Meyer. He attended Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Kiel. On August 30, 1933, he married Margaret A. Wagner at St. Wendel Catholic Church, Cleveland. She preceded him in death on June 30, 1981. He farmed his entire life on the Meyer homestead in the Town of Schleswig. Meyer was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel and was a past president of the church’s Holy Name Society; he was on the Kiel Area School Board for 39 years and was a former treasurer of the school board. Meyer are honeymooning in the northern part of the state before establishing their home near Kiel. The bride formerly Miss Margaret Ann Wagner, Cleveland, Wis., and groom, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Meyer, Kiel, were united in marriage at the St. Wendel Catholic church at St. Wendel Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock. The wedding mass was celebrated by the Rev. E.J. Schmit. Miss Julia Wagner was maid of honor, the Misses Emma Wagner and Gertrude Meyer were bridesmaids, and Alice Meyer was flower girl. Sylvan Meyer attended the groom as best man, and Harry Wagner and Ralph Meyer were ushers. A white satin gown with lace jacket and a veil in cap effect trimmed with pearls and rhinestones were worn by the bride, who carried Easter lilies. The maid of honor was attired in a frock of green taffeta trimmed with yellow and carried a Colonial bouquet, and the bridesmaids whore yellow satin frocks trimmed with green. Their bouquets were mixed flowers. The flower girl carried a basket of sweet peas. More than 100 quests attended the reception and wedding breakfast and dinner at the Wagner home. JAMES M. MEYER James C. Meyer(sic), 21, of 22511 Mueller Road, Kiel, died unexpectedly at his home Saturday evening from complication of a kidney transplant operation he underwent four months ago. He was born June 13, 1963, in Sheboygan, a son of Joseph and Mary Steffes Meyer. Mr. Meyer was a 1981 graduate of Kiel High School and had been a student of Lakeland College. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, and the Kiel Area Jaycees. She is the former Loretta Wagner, born June 13, 1922, at Cleveland, Wis. Daughter of the late Henry and Mary Schmitt Wagner, she attended St. Wendel grade school in Cleveland. On September 5, 1942, she married Walter Meyer at St. Wendel Catholic Church, Cleveland. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1992. They farmed in the Town of Schleswig all their married life. The bride formerly Miss Margaret Ann Wagner, Cleveland, Wis., and groom, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Meyer, Kiel, were united in marriage at the St. Wendel Catholic church at St. Wendel Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock. The wedding mass was celebrated by the Rev. E.J. Schmit. Miss Julia Wagner was maid of honor, the Misses Emma Wagner and Gertrude Meyer were bridesmaids, and Alice Meyer was flower girl. Sylvan Meyer attended the groom as best man, and Harry Wagner and Ralph Meyer were ushers. A white satin gown with lace jacket and a veil in cap effect trimmed with pearls and rhinestones were worn by the bride, who carried Easter lilies. The maid of honor was attired in a frock of green taffeta trimmed with yellow and carried a Colonial bouquet, and the bridesmaids whore yellow satin frocks trimmed with green. Their bouquets were mixed flowers. The flower girl carried a basket of sweet peas. More than 100 quests attended the reception and wedding breakfast and dinner at the Wagner home. MARGARET MEYER (d. 1987) Mrs. Margret M. Meyer(sic), age 72, of 718 First Street, Kiel, died on Thursday evening at St. Nicholas Hospital after a lengthy illness. The former Margret Junk was born August 1, 1915 in Cleveland, the daughter of the late William and Mary Kress Junk. She attended St. Wendel School, Cleveland. On October 15, 1935, she married Sylvan Meyer at St. Wendel Catholic Church, Cleveland. They observed their 50th wedding anniversary in 1985. They farmed in the Town of Schleswig until 1973, when they moved to Kiel. She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, Christian Mothers and the GUG Germania Society. MARY MEYER Mrs. Mary Meyer, 90, a former resident of Kiel, died Saturday, in Rocky Knoll Health Care Facility, Kiel. The couple operated a farm in the Town of Centerville for several years, then moved to a farm in the Town of Schleswig. After retiring in 1942 the couple then made their home in Kiel. WALTER J. MEYER Walter J. Meyer, 86, of 16212 Cemetery Rd., rural Kiel died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, April 28, 2007. He was born June 24, 1920 in the town of Schleswig, son of the late Charles and Mary Schneider Meyer. He attended Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School, Kiel. Walter married Loretta Wagner on Sept. 5 1942 at St. Wendel Catholic Church in Cleveland. Loretta and Walter enjoyed 50 wonderful years together before she passed away on April 26, 1993. Walter later married rose Schmitz Engel on May 13, 2000. Walter farmed all his life on the family homestead. In his later years he also volunteered at the Salvatorian Mission Warehouse in New Holstein. He was a life-long member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic church, Kiel and a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Holy name Society. Walter’s love for the land kept him busy on the family farm helping drive tractor. Later in his life he enjoyed gardening, sheepshead, furniture refinishing, collecting antiques and working at the Salvatorian Mission Warehouse. Walter’s first love was his children, grand- children and great grandchildren. He enjoyed the many family gatherings especially their Thanksgiving meal at Millhome Supper Club. Survivors include his loving wife Rose of rural Kiel; his son-in-law Richard Keuler, Kiel; his children John (Tess) Meyer, Burlington, Vt., Terri (Lewie) Lundberg, Hartford, Dori (Tom) Bibo, Pewaukee, Denny (Mary) Meyer, Ripon, Richard (Mary Jo) Meyer, Kiel, Gary (Joyce) Meyer, Kiel, and Kay (Dennis) Whitney, Green Bay; 28 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; two sisters, Sr Mary Dolores Meyer, Rose (Paul) Holshbach, and one brother-in-law, Lawrence (Josephine) Wagner. CLEMENS P. MEYERS Clemens P. Meyers, 69, of 511 Calumet Ave., Kiel, died late Saturday at St. Nicholas Hospital. Born Dec. 26, 1897, at Charlesburg, he was a son of the late Leonard and Mary Meyers. He attended St. Charles Catholic School and was married on June 12, 1928, to Lucille Werth of New Holstein at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, New Holstein. The couple lived in Charlesburg until 1942 when they moved to Kiel. Mr. Meyers was employed at the H.G. Weber Co. and Stoelting Bros. Co. and for the past five years was self-employed as a painter. LUCILLE M. MEYERS Lucille M. Meyers, age 90, of 1411 Greenfield Ave., died on Sunday, March 2, 2003 at Meadow View Manor Nursing Home. Lucille was born July 4, 1912 in Chicago, a daughter of the lat Gustav and Martha (Krause) Werth. She was united in marriage to Clemens Meyers at St. Charles Catholic Church in Charlesburg. They resided in Charlesburg and Kiel prior to him preceding her in death. Lucille was employed by Lake to Lake and Hanson Glove Corp. both of Kiel, following which she did childcare in private homes. She moved to Sheboygan in 1985. Lucille enjoyed cooking, dancing and listening to music. She always found time for children and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lucille is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Harold Wieland of Sheboygan; her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is further survived by two sisters, Clara Vilanueva and Helen Velasco, both of Paris, Ill. She was preceded in death by a son, George, two brothers, William and George Werth and a sister, Mae Jones. Mass and Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Dominic Catholic Church with Rev. ANNA M. MICHELS Mrs. Anna M. Michels, 67, a former Kiel resident, died Monday night at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton, where she had been a patient for three days. Prior to being hospitalized she had resided at the Calumet Homestead, New Holstein. The former Anna Wendel, she was born Jan. 8, 1912, at Marytown, a daughter of Anton and Juliana Mueller Wendel. She attended St. Mary Parochial School at Marytown. On October 18, 1924, she was married to Emil Michels at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. The couple lived in Kiel. Her husband preceded her in death in 1960, after which Mrs. Michels moved to Charlesburg. She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and its Christian Mothers Society. Survivors are a son, Raul of Westminster, California; two grandsons; two sisters, Mrs. August Greuel of New Holstein and Mrs. Henry Schneider of Route 1, Newton, and a brother, Edward Wendel of New Holstein. EMIL N. MICHELS Emil N. Michels, 52, 323 Fremont St., Kiel, died Monday morning at St. Nicholas Hospital after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage earlier that morning. A native of Kiel, he was born Oct. 17, 1907, a son of Nicholas and the late Elizabeth Schram Michels. He attended Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Kiel, and was graduated from Kiel High School in 1926. He married Anna Wendel of Kiel on Oct. 18, 1934, at Ss. Peter and Paul Church. The couple continued to make their home in Kiel where he was employed at the former Rudolph Greve Hardware Store for 28 years. The past four years, he also served as assistant custodian at the Kiel Public Schools. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Church and the Holy Name Society of the church. His mother died in 1950. EMERANDA MIES Emeranda (Ranny) F. Mies, age 79, formerly of St. Anna, died Tuesday morning, May 9, at Calumet Homestead, New Holstein, where she was a resident for 16 months. She is the former Emeranda Klaeser, born August 23, 1909, in Kiel, daughter of Frank and Emma Jeanty Klaeser. She attended schools in Kiel. On October 20, 1929, she married Claude Mies in Kiel. The couple lived in Kiel until his death on March 3, 1958. For 28 years she was a housekeeper for Walter Wiskerchen of St. Anna. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, New Holstein. Survivors include one brother, Gilbert Klaeser, of Madera, California; one niece and three nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Olive Walters, two brothers, Fred and Joe Klaeser. HUBERT MIES In his home on Friday evening at 11:30 PM, Mr. Hubert Mies a well-known innkeeper in Kiel died of a lingering illness of kidney disease and edema of the heart. The deceased was born on August 19, 1878 near St. Joseph in Fond du Lac County. In 1902 he married his now surviving wife, Mary Nett and the couple lived for many years in Hinzeville where Mr. Mies owned a saloon. Later the family moved to a farm in Town New Holstein, and three years ago to Kiel where the deceased purchased the Market Saloon, which he operated until his death. The marriage was blessed with two children who along with their mother mourn the all too early death of her husband and their father. Additionally, his mother, four brothers and three sisters survive him. The burial took place on Tuesday morning at the Catholic Cemetery following the funeral service at the St. Peter and Paul Church with Father Rumbel officiating. ALFRED J. MILLER Alfred J. Miller, 76, a native of Kiel, died early today at the Veterans Hospital in St. Cloud, Minn. Born in Kiel on April 4, 1894, a son of the late Mathias and Magdelina Reichert Miller, he attended Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Kiel and the Kiel High School. During World War I, he served in France with a heavy artillery unit. He had been hospitalized at a veterans home near Mendota, Wis., almost 40 years with a war-related injury. Mr. Miller was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, and the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin. Survivors include two brothers, Norbert of Kiel and Otto of Sehboygan. CHARLES MILLER (d. 1982) Charles Miller, 47, of 625 Fremont St., died Saturday morning at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton, where he had been a patient for the past two weeks. Mr. Miller was born Jan. 10, 1935, in Evanston, Ill., a son of Charles and Loretta Krupp Miller. He graduated from Kiel High School in 1953. He was employed at the A. A. Laun Furniture Co. for the past 28 years. Mr. Miller was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. Surviving is a sister, Mrs. Gordon Raquet, of rural Kiel. EDWARD MILLER Edward P. Miller, 74, of Kiel, a retired farmer, took his own life Friday at home. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Meiselwitz Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. The Rev. George Kiefer will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. Mr. Miller was born June 15, 1895, at Kiel, son of the late Mathias and Margaret Reichart Miller. Feb. 8, 1916, he married Louise Klein of the Town of Rhine at Kiel. They lived at Kiel for two years before locating on the Miller homestead farm. He retired in 1962. The couple celebrated its golden wedding anniversary in February, 1966, and Mrs. Miller preceded him in death in September, 1967. Mr. Miller was a member of the Holy Name Society of the church. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Rosella) Bruckner of Rt. 2, Kiel, and Mrs. Leo (Arline) Schnell of Rt. 1, Valders; five sons, Leon of Phoenix, Ariz.; Arno of Elkhart Lake, Allen and Elroy of Rt. 1, Sheboygan; three brothers, Alfred of St. Cloud, Minn., Norbert of Kiel and Otto of Sheboygan; 31 grand- children and a great grandchild. GLEN R. MILLER Glen R. Miller, 62, died peacefully in his sleep on Nov. 29, 2005 at Edelweiss Manor on Elkhart Lake where he had been under hospice care since November 25. Glen was born on July 5, 1943 to Norbert and Genrose (Dhein) Miller of Kiel. He married Lynne Schnabl on Dec. 27, 1969 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Black Creek. He attended Kiel High School and received a bachelor of science degree in secondary education from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 1965 and his master of science in guidance and counseling in Indiana State University in 1971. He also completed one year of doctoral studies in Indiana State University and received his Wisconsin Administrative Licensure after graduate studies in administrative leadership and curriculum development at Cardinal Stritch University, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Marquette University. Glen was a Muskego middle school teacher from 1965-67. He then worked as a guidance counselor in Chilton (68-69), Port Washington (69-70), and Shorewood (71-75). In the fall of 1975 he became the assistant principal at Urban Middle School (Sheboygan) and then joined the Kiel Area School District as high school principal in 1981. After 15 years as principal he became Kiel’s director of curriculum and assessment for the last eight years of his career until retirement in 2004. Glen was a kind and gentle man whose colleagues and friends often sought him out as an advisor and mentor. He had a sharp wit and a broad range of knowledge that he enjoyed sharing with friends. Glen was an avid reader, bicyclist, golfer, trap shooter and opera buff. He was also devoted to his cat Daisy. He thoroughly enjoyed his volunteer work in the Stepahnie H. Weill Center and the Performing Arts (Sheboygan) ticket office after his retirement. In addition to his wife, Glen is survived by his mother, Genrose, and sister Marilyn (Richard) Douglas, aunts, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Norbert and sister, Nancy (David) Vollmar. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Blessed Trinity Parish, Sheboygan Falls with the Rev. LORETTA MILLER Mrs. Loretta Miller, 69, of 822 Fremont St., Kiel, died early this morning at her home. The former Loretta Krupp, she was born June 19, 1899, in the Town of New Holstein, a daughter of the late Jacob and Amalia Christel Krupp. She attended St. Ann's Catholic School at St. Anna. On Nov. 26, 1931, she married Charles J. Miller of Evanston, Ill., at Wilmette, Ill. They moved to Kiel in 1938. Mr. Miller died in February, 1964. Mrs. Miller was a member of the Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel, the Christian Mothers Society, and the Lady Foresters. LOUISE MILLER Mrs. Edward P. Miller, 79, of Kiel, died Wednesday at Calumet Memorial Hospital in Chilton. She had been admitted earlier in the day. The former Louise Klein, she was born in the Town of Rhine, Dec. 4, 1887, a daughter of the late John and Louise Klein. She attended district school in Rhine and was married to Mr. Miller, Feb. 8, 1916, by the late Rev. Otto Kolbe. The couple lived in Kiel for two years, then moved to the Miller home farm on the eastern edge of the city. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1966. She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Parish. Surviving are her husband; five sons; two daughters (names omitted for privacy) and 30 grandchildren. A daughter and two grandchildren preceded her in death. The requiem Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Ss. Peter and Paul Church, with the Rev. George Kiefer, pastor, celebrant. Mr. Miller had reached the age of 78, and up to the time of his fatal illness had been always active. Mr. Miller was born in Evrange, Alsace-Lorraine, while that province was still under French rule. At the age of seven years he came to this country with his parents and four brothers and three sisters, of which he was the youngest. The family settled on what is now the Mertens farm about a mile and a half west of the city. In 1893 he was married to Miss Magdalene Reichert, and together the couple lived for the remainder of their lives on the farm where Mr. Miller died. His wife preceded him in death in the year 1911. Mr. Miller was the last survivor of his family. Four children were born to the couple. They are: Alfred J., at Mendota, Wis., and Edward P., Norbert H., and Otto, all living at home. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 9:30 at the Sts. Peter and Paul church, the Rev A. Roder performing the last rites. Interment was in the Sts. NORBERT HERMAN MILLER Norbert H. Miller, 91, of 622 Paine Street, Kiel, died Wednesday evening, at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan, shortly after being admitted. He was born on Aug. 9, 1896 in Kiel, the son of the late Matthew and Magdalene (Reichert) Miller. He attended Kiel parochial and high school. On Oct. 9, 1934, he married Genrose Dhein, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1984. He was employed at Kiel Post Office from July 1, 1920 until his retirement in 1962, with the last 21 years being the assistant postmaster. Mr. Miller was a former local secretary for US Civil Service Commission for many years. He was a veteran of US Army in World War I. He was a member of St Peter and Paul Catholic Church, and its Holy Name Society, and was a former church trustee; a former member of the board of directors at Citizen State Bank from 1943 – 1977; a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Catholic Knights of Wisconsin, National Association of Retired Federal employees, charter member of the Kiel American Legion Post No. 99 and was a past commander; a member of the Kiel Historical Society; and a former member of the Board of Appeals. Survivors are his wife, Genrose; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. David (Nancy) Vollmar of Elm Grove and Mrs. Richard (Marilyn) Douglas, Green Bay; a son and daughter-in-law, Glen and Lynne Miller of Kiel and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Rev. Thomas Leannah, pastor, officiating. OTTO R. MILLER Otto R. Miller, 88, former Kiel resident, died Wednesday evening at Sunny Ridge where he had been a resident since November. He was born Jan. 24, 1899 in Kiel, son of the late Mathias and Magdalen Reichert Miller. He attended Kiel Schools. He lived in Sheboygan for many years and was employed by the Kohler Co. until his retirement. Mr. Miller was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Sheboygan. Survivors include a brother, Norbert of Kiel. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Funeral Mass will be at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Rev. Thomas Leannah, pastor, officiating.
