PETER MUELLER Peter Mueller, a well known resident of Kiel, died on Monday evening at St. Nicholas hospital in Sheboygan, where he was being cared for during the last 2 months, after a lingering illness of dropsy. Decedent was born in Alsace, Germany, September 5, 1845, coming to this country in 1857 and later settling on a farm in the town of New Holstein, west of Kiel, now owned by Chr. Hagenow, where he lived about thirty years. Some 25 years ago he disposed of the farm and since then lived in Kiel, acting as barkeeper for Michael Wagner for many years when the latter was in the saloon business; the last years he lived at Rauchschwalbe's hotel. Last winter his health began to fail and his condition became gradually worse unitl it was found necessary to remove him to the hospital, where he expired Monday evening. He leaves two brothers, Jacob in Oregon and Mathias in Kiel, and one sister, Mary in Oregon. The funeral will be held Thursday morning at 10 o'clock, services being in the St. Peter and Paul's church, Rev. Rumpel officiating. Interment in the church cemetery. Tri-County Record, Kiel WI, Thurs. July 10, 1919, p.1 , c. 1 ******* KIEL MAN MAKES UNIQUE BEQUEST IN HIS LAST WILL Peter Mueller Provides $300 for A Feast for Friends Who Attend His Funeral, Left Large Estate Peter Mueller, deceased, late a resident of Kiel, did not believe in mourning and wanted his friends to celebrate rather than bemoan when they came to attend his funeral. This was revealed yesterday when the will of the late Mr. Mueller was filed in probate court and when opened was found to include a bequest for $300 which he directed should be used to provide for a dinner for all persons attending his funeral and his friends who were generally invited to take part. The bequest is made in the following paragraph of the will: “I further bequeath the sum of $300 to be paid for a specified dinner on the day of my funeral, given to all persons who shall participate at the funeral, said dinner to be given at Peter Geigel’s Hall. All friends are invited. The will was drawn April 22, this year, and Mr. Mueller’s death occurred little more than a month later. It is understood that the decedent had elaborated to friends upon the plans for the dinner which he desired should be held and left instructions that the best be served to his friends. In his will Mr. Mueller disposed of an estate estimated at $8,000 or more, including a considerable interest in stock of the Kiel Woodenware Co. at Kiel. After specific bequests of about $7,000 the residue of the property is left to a brother. A legacy of $500 is bequeathed to the Catholic church at Kiel, $400 for support of the cemetery,$150 for the reading of masses, and $500 for the erection of a fitting monument over his grave. The will is witnessed by Albert Wagenknecht and Henry Ranshachwald both of Kiel. Mr. Mueller was a well known resident of Kiel and for some time previous to his death made his home with the Lettenbergers. While it was known that he possessed some means, the estate disposed of by the will is larger than was suspected. Whether the wish of the decedent for a dinner can now be carried out, it is not known, Mr. Mueller had evidently planned the affair for some time previous to his last illness which was not of long duration. The bequest is one of the most unusual which has been revealed by a will filed in the local probate court. Among specific bequests are two of $100 each and one of $2,000 and three of $500 each.
