DOROTHY L. SCHROEDER Mrs. Robert Schroeder, 50, of 704 Fourth Street, Kiel, died Sunday morning at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient for the past two weeks. The former Dorothy Turba, she was born April 9, 1933, in Kiel, a daughter of the late Otto and Ermina Wieseckel Turba. She graduated from Kiel High School In 1951. On April 11, 1953, she and Robert Schroeder were married in Kiel. They owned and operate the Schroeder Supermarket in Kiel for the past 19 years. She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Parish, Kiel and formerly belonged to its Christian Mothers Society. Surviving are her husband; three daughters, Mary, Mrs. James (Margie) Fromm and Melisa all of Kiel; two sons, Thomas and Charles, both of Kiel; two grandsons, One brother, Ralph Turba of Menominee Falls, and one sister, Mrs. Allison Gebhard of New Holstein. Funeral Mass will be at Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Kiel, with the Rev. Francis Kerscher, pastor, celebrant. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. ROBERT W. SCHROEDER Robert W. Schroeder, 67, formerly of Kiel, died at his home in Menasha. He was born Aug. 22, 1931 in Plymouth, son of the late Carlton and Ella Voland Schroeder. He is a 1950 Kiel High School graduate. Bob served in the US navy during the Korean War on the USS Roosevelt. On April 11, 1953, he married Dorothy Turba in Kiel. Dorothy preceded him in death on Dec. 25, 1983. He owned and operated Schroeder’s Supermarket, Kiel for 20 years and most recently was employed at Dunham’s Express, Appleton. Survivors include his children, Mary (Vernon) Raquet, Marge (Jim) Fromm, Thomas Schroeder, Chuck Schroeder, Melissa (David) Brandt all of Kiel; four grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Beatrice (Lefty) Gebhard, New Holstein. He was preceded in death by one sister, Joyce Brushaber, an infant brother, Gordon and brother, Cully Schroeder. Funeral services will be at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, Kiel, with the Rev. CLARA SCHUH Mrs. Henry P. Schuh, 59, of 810 Washington St., Kiel, died at her home late Thursday morning after suffering a heart attack. The former Clare Braun, she was born in Whitelaw (Manitowoc County), March 23, 1900, a daughter of the late Frank and Margaret Grall Braun, and was married there on June 27, 1922, at St. Michael's Church. The couple lived in Grimms (Manitowoc County), Sheboygan and the Town of Rhine before moving to Kiel in 1940. She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel, its Christian Mothers Society of which she was a past president, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. Survivors are her husband; two daughters; four sons (names omitted for privacy); 24 grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Margaret Zeman, Sheboygan, Mrs. Quiren Swetlik, Whitelaw, Mrs. Elmer Neuser, Manitowoc, Mrs. Paul Pakenham, Chicago, and three brothers, John, Whitelaw, Frank, Cato, and Joseph, Manitowoc. A grandson, two brothers and four sisters preceded her in death. A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. The Rev. F.X. EUGENE J. SCHUH SR. (d. 1986) Eugene J. Schuh, 59, of 803 Washington St., Kiel, died Thursday night at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton, after suffering a probable heart attack. He was born in Sept. 24, 1926 in Sheboygan, the son of the late Henry and Clare Braun Schuh. He graduated from Kiel High School in 1945. On June 10, 1948 he was married to Wanda Hanke at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein. Mr. Schuh served in the US Navy from 1944 to 1946 in the Pacific Theater. He worked at Stoelting Co. in Kiel. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Kiel. Mr. Schuh was a member of Kiel Fire Department for 32 years, becoming first assistant chief in 1980. He also was an emergency medical technician and instructor with the department for many years. He was a member of Wisconsin Sate Fire Chiefs Association and Wisconsin State Firefighters Association. Other memberships included American Legion of Lomira Post 347, VFW Post 6707, Improved Order of Redman Association, Fish and Game Association and Christian Men’s Club. Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Mrs. Edward (Judith) Lund of Brownsvile, Mrs. Robert (Marilyn) Kienbaum and Mrs. Mark (Sandra) Neils of Kiel, Mrs. Patrick (Patricia) Healy of Oconto Falls and Mrs. Gary (Carol) Schwefel of Eldorado; 13 grandchildren; three brothers, Henry and Gerald of Kiel and Edward of Littleton, Colo.; two sisters, Mrs. Geraldine Thelen of Kellnersville and Mrs. Mary Ann Majkrzak of Kiel. Mr. Schuh was preceded in death by his parents, a son and a granddaughter. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Rev. EUGENE W. SCHUH JR. (d. 1956) Eugene Schuh, 2 1/2-months-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Schuh Sr., of 803 Washington St., Kiel, died early Sunday afternoon at St. Nicholas Hospital. He was born July 29, 1956, a son of Eugene and Wanda Hanke Schuh. He had been confined to the hospital since last Thursday. Survivors are his parents; four sisters (names omitted for privacy); the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Hanke, Lomira; the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schuh, Kiel, and the maternal great-grandfather, Engelbert Koehler, Kiel. GERALD A. SCHUH Gerald A. Schuh, age 69, of 132 Hillcrest Drive, Kiel, died unexpectedly Monday morning, February 17, 1997, at his home of an apparent heart attack. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 20, 1997, at S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. Rev. Loren Nys S.D.S. will officiate preceded by brief family rites at 10 a.m. at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, 815 6th St., Kiel. Burial will be in the church cemetery. He was born February 16, 1928, in Sheboygan, son of the late Henry P. and Clara Braun Schuh. He attended S.S. Peter and Pual (sic) Catholic School. On June 18, 1949, he married Lucille Hitsman at S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. Gerald was employed at Kohler Company for 41 years retiring in 1991. In his retirement he enjoyed working at various businesses in the Kiel area. He enjoyed hunting with his dogs and bowling and was a wonderful grandpa to his grandchildren and great-grandchild. He was a member of S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, St. Joseph the Worker/Council 5539-Knights of Columbus, Kiel VFW Post #6707, Kiel Fish and Game, Kiel Thursday Night Bowling League and a member of the Kohler Quarter Century Club. Survivors include his wife, Lucille; one daughter, Janice (Mark) Forss, Kiel; three grandchildren, Kim (Steve) Jetzer, Jason Baumann, Abigail Forss; one great-grandson, Nicholas Jetzer. He is further survived by two brothers, Henry F. (Angie) Schuh, Kiel, Edward (Helen) Schuh, Denver, Colo.; his twin sister, Geraldine (Floyd) Thelen, Kellnersville; his sister, Mary Ann (Edwin) Majkrzak, Kiel; one sister-in-law, Wanda Schuh, Kiel; many nieces, nephews and friends also survive. INFANT GIRL SCHUH The Rev. George Kiefer, pastor of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel, held graveside services at the parish cemetery at 5 p.m. Monday for the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry F. Schuh, R. 1, Elkhart Lake. The infant died shortly after birth Saturday evening at St. Nicholas Hospital. Besides the parents she is survived by five sisters and four brothers, the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Isidore Watry of St. Anna, and the paternal grandfather, Henry P. Schuh, Kiel. HENRY F. "HANK" SCHUH, JR. Henry "Hank" F. Schuh Jr., 79, of 1015 Sixth St., Kiel, died Saturday morning, Dec. 28, 2002, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Aug. 24, 1923, in Sheboygan, son of the late Henry P. and Clara Braun Schuh. He was a graduate of Ss. Peter and Paul Grade School in Kiel. On April 15, 1947, he married Angeline Watry at St. Ann Catholic Church, St. Anna. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1997. The couple farmed for 20 years in the Town of Schleswig and the Town of Rhine before moving to Kiel in 1967. Hank drove fuel delivery for Standard Oil and Quality State Oil for many years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel; honorary member of the Kiel Knights of Columbus, Chapter 5539; was one of the original founders of the Kiel Little League where he managed a team for 11 years. He enjoyed playing Skat and sheepshead with his various card clubs, singing and dancing, and was an avid Packer and Cubs fan. He is survived by his wife, Angie; his children, Marjorie (Wayne) Kaiser, Glenbeulah, Viginia (Bill) Pfeifer, Sheboygan Falls, Donna (Glenn) Dessellier, Kiel, Barbara (Matt) Lefeber, St. Cloud, James Schuh, Kiel, Mark (Diane) Schuh, Kiel, Jane (David) Felton, Cedarburg, Mary (Dennis) Kennedy, Wauwatosa; 28 grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Peggy Schuh and Janice Schuh, both of Elkhart Lake; two sisters, Geraldine Thelen of Kellnersville and Mary Ann (Edward) Majkrzak of Kiel; two sisters-in-law, Wanda Schuh and Lucille Schuh, both of Hiel; one brother, Edward Schuh of Denver, Colo. HENRY P. SCHUH (d. 1985) Henry P. Schuh, Sr, 90, of 908 Dewey Street, Kiel died unexpectedly in his home Saturday morning. He was born December 18, 1894, in Brillion, son of Joseph and Elizabeth Muellenbach Schuh. He attended school at Grimms. Mr. Schuh served in the Army in World War I in France and Germany. On June 27, 1922 he and Clare Braun were married at St. Michael Catholic Church, Whitelaw. They farmed in the Town of Rhine until 1940, when they moved to Kiel, where Mr. Schuh worked at A. A. Laun Furniture Company until retiring in 1960. Mrs. Schuh died in 1959. Mr. Schuh was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, its Holy Name Society and also belonged to VFW Post 6707, Kiel. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Floyd (Geraldine) Thelen of Kellnersville and Mrs. Edwin (Mary Ann) Majkrzak of Kiel; four sons, Henry F. Schuh Jr., Eugene and Gerald all of Kiel and Edward, Littleton, Colorado; 30 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; a brother, Raymond of Manitowoc and three sisters, Mrs. Georgian Barbieur, Mrs. Mae Spehar and Mrs. Rose Deubler, all of Manitowoc. HERBERT A. SCHULER Herbert A. Schuler, 94, of 1110 Cleveland St., Kiel, died Friday morning, Sept. 7, 2001 at the Willowdale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, New Holstein, where he resided since February of 2001. He was born August 3, 1907, in St. Nazianz, son of the late Gottfried and Agnes Schram Schuler. He attended St. Gregory’s Catholic School in St. Nazianz. On May 18, 1937, he married Marcella Lavey in Elkhart Lake. She preceded him in death on Oct. 30, 1977. In March 1980, he married Irene Lisowe in Chilton. She preceded him in death on Dec. 27, 1995. Herbert farmed most of his life in the Town of Schleswig before moving to Kiel with his wife, Irene, in 1980. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel and the Kiel Senior Citizens. Herbert enjoyed playing cards and assembling puzzles. Survivors include one daughter: Janice (Art) Stahl, rural Elkhart Lake; one daughter-in-law: Marilyn (Mike) Steffen, New Holstein; three step-daughters: Lorraine (Glen) Cocroft, Colorado; Diane Guif, Wisconsin; Linda (Dan) Varelli, Colorado; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by two sisters, “Petie” Schneider and Sally Zych, both of Manitowoc and two sisters-in-law, Marion Schuler, Chilton and Rita (Norman) Brost, St. Nazianz. He was preceded in death by one son, Bernard Schuler, two brothers, Edward and Arno and three sisters, Clara Kautzer, Leona Brunmeier, and Florentine Backhaus. Funeral services will be held at Ss. MARCELLA SCHULER Mrs. Herbert Schuler, 65, of route 1, Kiel, died unexpectedly Sunday after being stricken with a heart attack at her home. The former Marcella Lavey, she was born August 29, 1912, in Elkhart Lake, a daughter of the late Wilfred and Camielle DeTye Lavey. She was a graduate of Elkhart Lake High School and the Sheboygan Business College. She worked at the Salvatorian Center in St. Nazianz for four years. On May 18, 1937 she married Herbert Schuler at Elkhart Lake. The couple farmed in the town of Rhine until 1944 when they moved to their present farm in the town of Schleswig. Mrs. Schuler was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel, the Christian Mothers Society of the parish and the Merry-Go-Round Homemakers. Surviving are her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Arthur Stahl of Route 1, Elkhart Lake; one son, Bernard of New Holstein, and nine grandchildren. The funeral Mass was read Wednesday at Ss. HERBERT J. SCHWARTZ Herbert J. Schwartz, 65, of Route 2, Kiel, died unexpectedly at his home last week Wednesday. Death was attributed to an apparent heart attack. Born on April 2, 1908 in the Town of Meeme, he was a son of the late Frank and Rose Wasmer Schwartz. He attended St. Fidelis Catholic School, Spring Valley. On November 26, 1929, he married Leona Schmitt of the Town of Eaton at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. The couple lived in the St. Nazianz area until 29 years ago when they purchased a farm in the Town of Schleswig. He was employed by the Streu Construction Company, Two Rivers, for 43 years. He retired a year ago. Survivors include his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Alfred Olig of Plymouth; three sons, Herbert Jr. of Glenbeulah, Eugene of Route 1, Plymouth, and Dennis of Sheboygan; 14 grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Joseph Hertel, Mrs. Betty Fredericks, Mrs. Carolyn Hammes and Miss Frances Schwartz, all of Sheboygan, and three brothers, Harry of Winnemas, Indiana, Norbert of Madison and Walter of Route 2, Kiel. LEONA SCHWARTZ Mrs. Leona Schwartz, 65, of R. 2, Kiel, widow of Herbert, died unexpectedly at her home Thursday afternoon after being stricken with an apparent heart attack. She was born on April 16, 1910 in the Town of Rhine, a daughter of the late Peter and Appollonia Zimmermann Schmitt. She attended district schools. On Nov. 26, 1929 she was married to Mr. Schwartz at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. After marriage the couple lived in the St. Nazianz area until 1944 when they purchased a farm in the Town of Schleswig. Her husband died on July 4, 1973. Mrs. Schwartz was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and its Christian Mothers Society. Survivors are a daughter; three sons; 14 grandchildren; four sisters; three brothers (names omitted for privacy). Three sisters preceded her in death. The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Ss. BERNICE SCHWEITZER Bernice Grace Schweitzer, 83, of Amberg, WI passed away on Wednesday evening, February 4, 2009 at Rennes Health Center, DePere. She was born February 10, 1925 in Kiel, daughter of the late John & Frances (Taubel) Walber. Bernice attended SS Peter & Paul Catholic School in Kiel. On February 7, 1942 she married Sylvester Schweitzer at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. The couple lived at Little Elkhart Lake for 31 years before retiring to Amberg. Sylvester preceded her in death on May 19, 1996. Bernice worked at Clevepak Canning Factory, Elenco, Shell Patterns and Kohler Co. Survivors include her three sons: John (Darlene) of Merton, William of Amberg, Gene (Rose Ann) of DePere, seven grandchildren. She is further survived by fourteen great grandchildren: one great great granddaughter, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Leona Walber, Sheboygan, Mary Ann Walber, MN, Armella Walber, New Holstein, Delores Schweitzer, Elkhart Lake, Alma Schweitzer, Kiel, Bernard & Marion Schweitzer, Kiel, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three daughters, Bonnie Lee, Mary Theresa, Patricia Ann; three brothers, Garfield, Eugene & August Walber, two sisters: Delores Bunge, Della Perl, other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Bernice was a devout Catholic who enjoyed life, spending quality time with her family and many friends, playing cards and just having a good time. In honoring our mother and respecting her wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral services, but a simple goodbye and a loving memory of her. EMMA SCHWEITZER Mrs. Emma F. Schweitzer, age 96, a former Kiel resident died Monday morning at Willowdale Nursing Home, New Holstein, where she was a resident for 2 1/2 years. She is the former Emma Stauber, born Sept. 1, 1892 in the Town of Eaton, daughter of the late Ignatius and Theresa Glaser Stauber. She attended the former Elder Grove School in the town of Eaton. On July 15, 1912 she married Louis Schweitzer at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. The couple farmed in the town of Eaton until 1943 when they moved to Kiel. He died Jan. 3, 1961. She was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel and the Church Christian Mothers. Survivors include 7 sons; Leo (Alma), Robert (Clara), Bernard (Marion) all of Kiel; Lawrence (Hildegard) of Naranja, FL, Alphones (Helen) of Franksville, WI, LeRoy and (Delores) of Elkhart Lake, Sylvester (Bernice) of Amberg, WI, 2 daughters, Mrs. David (Valeria) Bradley of Whitter, CA, and Mrs. Armella Walber of New Holstein; 47 grandchildren, 111 great grandchildren, 14 great great grand- children, 4 step grandchildren, 3 step great grandchildren, 1 sister, Mrs. Annie Voss of Kiel. LOUIS SCHWEITZER Louis Schweitzer, 73, of R. 2, Kiel, died at his home today after being in ill health for several years. He was born Jan. 28, 1887, near St. Nazianz, son of the late Carl and Magdalena (Kurzenske) Schweitzer. He attended St. Gregory's Catholic School at St. Nazianz and on July 15, 1912, married Miss Emma Stauber of St. Nazianz in St. Gregory's Catholic Church. They lived in St. Nazianz two years before moving to a farm near Steinthal in the Town of Eaton which is now operated by their son, Leo. In October, 1943, they moved to Kiel where he was employed by the Lake to Lake Dairy Cooperative and the Kiel Wooden Ware. He had been employed earlier by the Five Corners Cheese Factory in the Town of Eaton. He retired in 1954. Mr. Schweitzer was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel and a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters Court No. 1539 of St. Nazianz. Survivors are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. John (Valeria) Proell of Milwaukee, Mrs. Clemens (Armella) Walber of rural New Holstein and Mrs. Richard (Alice) Beck of Sheboygan; seven sons, Leo on the home farm, Lawrence of rural Kiel, Sylvester of Little Elkhart, Robert and Bernard of Kiel, Alphonse of Frankville and Leroy of Rhine Center; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Schwab of Valders and Mrs. Joseph Mertens of Milwaukee; one brother, Ed of the State of Oregon; 43 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. CLARA E. SCHWEITZER Clara E. Schweitzer, 79, of 804 Fremont St. Kiel, died Saturday morning Dec. 17, 2005 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Appleton surrounded by her loving family. She is the former Clara Mahloch, born July 17, 1926 daughter of the late John and Lydia Richter Mahloch. Clara graduated from Ss. Peter and Paul Grade School. She married Robert C. Schweitzer at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel on June 26, 1946 and he preceded her in death on Oct. 8, 1993. Clara was employed at the former Hanson Glove Factory, Chilton Aluminum Specialties, Tecumseh Products and A.A. Laun Furniture in Kiel until her retirement. She was a lifelong member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel where she was a member of the Christian Women’s Group. Clara was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary where she was a past president. She enjoyed bowling, sheepshead, gardening, embroidery and knitting. Survivors include her children, Judith (Ed) Walsdorf, Mary (Bob) Franzen both of Rural New Holstein, Robert C. Jr (Vicky) Schweitzer of Kiel, Jane (Steven) Rautmann of rural Kiel, Jeff Schweitzer of Kiel and Mark (Mary) Schweitzer of Marytown; 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. SYLVESTER SCHWEITZER Sylvester W. Schweitzer, 77, of Amberg, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 1996. He was born July 18, 1918 in the Town of Eaton, son of the late Louis and Emma Stauber Schweitzer. On Feb. 7, 1942 he married Bernice Walker at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. The couple lived in Little Elkhart Lake for 31 years, moving to Amberg in 1983. SANDRA L. SCOTT Sandy L. Scott, 44, of 139 S. First St. Kiel, died Nov. 26, 2005 at her home after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She is the former Sandy Collin for Dec. 18, 1960 in Chilton, daughter of Roger and Arlyne Collin. She attended Kiel Schools graduating in 1979. Sandy recently received her associate degree of arts and science from the University of Wisconsin- Sheboygan where she has been a student since 2002. Sandy married Jim Scott at St. Peter’s UCC in Kiel on Oct. 16, 1982. For the past 17 years she has been employed at the Kohler Credit Union. She was currently the Howards Grove branch manager. Sandy was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Sandy took great pride in watching her children perform in sporting events and was an active member of the sports booster groups. She enjoyed reading, playing piano, gardening, volleyball and traveling. Survivors include her husband, Jim; her three children, Brian and Jessica, both students at the University of Wisconsin; Platteville, and Matthew at home. She is further survived by her parents, Roger and Arlyne Collin of New Holstein; three brothers, all of New Holstein; David and Mary Collin, Richard and Violet Collin and Curt Collin. She attended St. Ann Catholic School and later moved with her parents to a Town of Schleswig farm. Her marriage to Mr. Sievert took place at Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Nov. 13, 1906. Following marriage the couple operated the Sievert home farm in Schleswig until retiring in June, 1931 when they moved to Kiel. Mr. Sievert died in November, 1932, and she returned to the farm to live with her son, Edwin. WILLIAM H. SIEVERT Wm. Sievert, 48, Dies Thursday at Home Here. End Comes After Brief Illness; Funeral Services Held Monday After a brief illness of only four days, William H. Sievert, a resident of Kiel for only five months, passed away at the home of his mother, Mrs. Frederika Sievert, at 3:15 Thursday afternoon. His age was 48. Mr. Sievert was born on a farm in the town of Schleswig, six miles northeast of Kiel on September 20, 1884. On November 13, 1906, he was married to Miss Pauline LaCroix of St. Anna, after which the couple made their home on the farm where Mr. Sievert was born. There they resided until June 11 of this year, when the couple moved to Kiel to live with the parents of the deceased. His father passed away September 18 of this year. To the couple two children were born. They are Adolph of the town of Charlesburg and Edwin on the homestead farm. He is also survived by his wife, and one brother, Herman, of the town of Schleswig. One brother, Edgar died June 27, 1919. Funeral services were held at the house of Mrs. Frederika Sievert here Monday morning at 9:30, and at 10 o'clock at the SS. ALFRED C. SILBERNAGEL Alfred Silbernagel, 62, of 828 Fourth street, Kiel, passed away this morning at 7:20 o'clock at the St. Nicholas hospital. He had been ill for the past several months. Born in the town of Herman Oct. 25, 1887, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Silbernagel, he attended school there and on Nov. 15, 1910, was married to Anna Lambert of the town of Schleswig and they operated a meat market at Ada. For two years they operated a meat market at Elkhart Lake and then 25 years ago purchased and operated a market at Kiel. He retired three years ago. Mr. Silbernagel was a member of the Kiel Chamber of Commerce of which he served as a director for several years; a member of the Holy Name society and of the Catholic Order of Foresters. Survivors are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Roy (Alyce) Duerrwaechter of Kiel; a grandson; four sisters and four brothers, Mrs. Arthur (Viola) Klein of Sheboygan, Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Hanke of Milan, Wis., Mrs. Melvin (Anna) Rickmeier of Plymouth, Mrs. Henry (Clara) Wick of New Holstein, Jacob of Sheboygan, Alwin and Walter of Milwaukee and Leroy of Colton, Calif. ANNA K. SILBERNAGEL Anna Silbernagel, 93, formerly of 828 Fourth Street, Kiel, died Thursday evening at Willowdale Nursing Home in New Holstein, where she had lived the past four years. The former Anna Lambert was born June 24, 1888, in the Town of Rhine, daughter of Carl and Gerber Lambert. She attended district school in the Town of Schleswig and St. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Kiel. She married Alfred Silbernagel Nov. 15, 1910, at St. Peter and Paul Church. They operated a meat market in Ada until 1926, when they moved to Kiel, where he operated the Silbernagel Meat Market until retirement in 1947. Mr. Silbernagel died in 1950. She was a member of St. Peter and Paul Church, the Christian Mothers Society, Lady Foresters, Kiel Senior Citizens. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Roy (Alyce) Duerrwaechter; one grandchild, four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Mrs. Silbernagel was preceded in death by a brother and sister. SANDRA L. SIPPEL Sandra L. Sippel, 60, of 732 Wisconsin Avenue, Kiel died Friday morning, February 3, 2006 at her home after a brief battle with cancer. She was the former Sandra Sauermilch, born June 1, 1945 in Manitowoc, daughter of Lorraine Liest Sauermilch and the late Frederick Sauermilch. Sandy was a 1963 graduate of Kiel High School. She graduated from Moraine Park Technical College in 1998. On November 16, 1963 Sandy married Joseph Sippel at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Plymouth. She was employed at Tecumseh Products, New Holstein for 30 years until her retirement. After retirement she worked at K & M Piggly Wiggly, Kiel. Sandy was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Kiel and the Tuesday night & fall golf league at Badger Creek. She enjoyed crocheting, golfing, painting, woodcarving and her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grand- children. Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Joseph of Kiel, one son, David (Virginia) Sippel, Kiel, one daughter, Denise Sippel, Kiel, three grandchildren, her mother, Lorraine Sauermilch, Manitowoc & mother-in-law, Lucille Sippel, a resident of Rocky Knoll. CRECENTIA M. SKUFCA Crecentia “Chris” M. Skufca, 77, formerly of Kiel, died Sunday evening, November 26, 2006 at Willowdale Nursing & Rehab Center, New Holstein. She was the former Crecentia M. Hansen, born December 25, 1928 in Jericho, daughter of the late Benedict & Loretta Schmitz Hansen. She was a 1946 graduate of Kiel High School and graduated from Milwaukee School of Cosmetology. After graduation she worked as a beautician. On August 22, 1953 she married Robert F. Skufca at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. The couple owned and operated the former Boystown Tavern in Kiel from 1948-1995, retiring in 1995. During that time Chris also worked at Lake-to-Lake in Kiel. Her husband Robert preceded her in death on August 31, 1998. Chris was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Kiel & the Christian Women’s Society of the church. She also was a member of the Kiel VFW Auxiliary/Post 6707. Survivors include her children: Gary Skufca of Cape Coral, Florida, Cathy (Stan) Simmons, Anchorage, Alaska, four grandchildren, Jason & Jennifer Wilcox, Brianna & Danielle Skufca and one great grandchild, Aden Wilcox. ROBERT F. SKUFCA Robert F. Skufca, age 78, of 11 E. Paine St., Kiel, died unexpectedly Monday morning, Aug. 31, 1998, shortly after being admitted to Calumet Medical Center, Chilton. He was born Dec. 27, 1920 in Sheboygan, son of the late Joseph and Anna Ribich Skufca. He was a graduate of Central High School, Sheboygan. Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II in the South Pacific. On Aug. 22, 1953 he married Crecentia Hansen at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. For a short time he was employed at the Kohler Co. Bob owned and operated Boystown Tavern in Kiel from 1948 until retiring in 1995. He was a member of Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel; Kiel VFW Post 6707; and a former member of the Kiel Redmen, Knights of Columbus and the Kiel Lions Club. Survivors include his wife, Chris; one son, Gary (Debra) Skufca, Cedar Lake; one daughter, Cathy Wilcox, Anchorage, Alaska; four grandchildren, and one great grandchild. AMELIA SPETTEL Mrs. Henry Spettel, 77, a native of the town of Schleswig, Manitowoc county, passed away Monday evening at St. Nicholas hospital after an illness of six months. She had been a resident of Kiel for the past 40 years. Nee Amelia Schultz she was born Oct. 16, 1870, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Schultz. She was married to Mr. Spettel July 24, 1894 in Sheboygan and the couple lived in Sheboygan for 10 years before moving to Kiel. They celebrated their golden wedding in 1944. Survivors are her husband, three daughters, Miss Verena of Milwaukee and Mrs. James (Anna) Gollash and Mrs. Carl (Anita) Kanske of Kiel; one grandson and two sisters, Mrs. Louis Steinberg of Kiel, and Mrs. Helen Reichert, of Manitowoc. ARMELLA SPETTEL The angel of death saddened the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Spettel of this city last Sunday, when their youngest daughter, Armella, was taken from them. She died at St. Nicholas hospital in Sheboygan early Sunday morning, after a brief illness with diabetes. Armella Spettel was born in Kiel, November 5, 1907, and was 15 years, 7 months and 17 days old at the time of her death. After leaving the St. Peter and Paul parochial school she attended the Kiel public school, and had finished one year in high school, when death ended her young life. She had always been well up to six months ago,when her health began to fail. She was placed under treatment of the family physician and was able to attend school up to June 6th, when it was decided to take her to the hospital at Sheboygan which she entered about a week before her death. Miss Spettel leaves to mourn her grief-stricken parents, and four sisters, Verena, Anna, Eleanor and Anita, all of Milwaukee. The funeral took place on Wednesday morning, with services at St. Peter & Paul's church, Rev. A. Roder officiating. Burial in the church cemetery.

Spettel, age 45, formerly of Milwaukee, died at 5 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at the home of her parents at 705 North 7th st., Kiel. She was born in Sheboygan June 1, 1901. In 1904 at the age of 3 she came to Kiel with her parents. Attended the parochial school of Ss. Peter and Paul church in Kiel and graduated from the Kiel High school in 1919. After graduation she attended the Wisconsin Commercial Academy and Whitewater Norman in Whitewater. She taught in Cudahy for 2 years. For the last 16 years she was employed as private secretary of the Basic Industry dept. of Allis Chalmers in Milwaukee. Survivors are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Spettel of Kiel; 3 sisters, Mrs. James (Anna) Gollasch and Mrs. Carl (Anita) Kanske, both of Kiel, and Miss Verena Spettel of Milwaukee. HENRY SPETTEL Henry M. Spettel, 85, of 910 3rd St., Kiel, died late Wednesday afternoon at St. Nicholas Hospital. His death followed a lingering illness. Born May 18, 1867, in the town of Herman, a son of the late Jacob and Elizabeth Spettel, he was married to Amelia Schulz at Holy Name Church, Sheboygan, on July 24, 1894. The couple made their home in Sheboygan until 1904, when they moved to Kiel. Since his wife's death in 1949, Mrs. Spettel has resided with a daughter, Mrs. Carl Kanske at Kiel. Mr. Spettel was employed at the Kiel Woodenware Co. until his retirement in 1949. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society of the parish. Survivors are: three daughters, Miss Verena of Milwaukee, Mrs. James (Anne) Gollash and Mrs. Carl (Anita) Kanske of Kiel; one grandchild; a sister, Miss Mary Spettel of Wilmette, Ill.; and two brothers, Jacob of the town of Eaton and John of the town of Schleswig. MARY SPETTEL Miss Mary Spettel, 86, of 515 Jackson St., Oshkosh, formerly of the Town of Schleswig, died Tuesday morning at Mercy Hospital, Oshkosh. As a young girl, she moved with her parents to the Town of Schleswig. Later she moved to Chicago where she did housework in the suburbs, retiring and moving to Oshkosh in 1957. VERENA SPETTEL Miss Verena M. Spettel, 92, of Milwaukee, died Sunday evening, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Milwaukee, where she had been a patient for the past two weeks. She was born in Dec. 6, 1895 in Sheboygan, daughter of the late Henry and Amelia (Schultz) Spettel. She attended Kiel parochial school. Prior to her retirement, Miss Spettel was employed at various factories in Milwaukee. She was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Milwaukee. JOSEPH STAHL On Sunday morning at 5 o’clock, Mr. Joseph Stahl died at his home at the age of 66 years after a long illness. The deceased first saw the light of the world in Ludwigshohe, on the Rhein, Germany on March 6, 1839 and married Appolonia Drews on January 23, 1869 and came to America in 1867. Twenty-eight years ago he came to Kiel and has lived here since. He was a cabinet maker by profession and worked for many years at the Kiel Woodenware factory. Besides his wife, Mr. Stahl is survived by eight children; Robert in Milwaukee, Hugo, Arthur and Harry in Kiel, Mrs. Adolph Kerndl, Mrs. Chas George and Miss Olga Stahl in Milwaukee and Miss Anna Stahl in Kiel. HILDA STAUBER Mrs. Hilda Stauber, 65, of 510 Calumet Ave., Kiel, died early today at St. Nicholas Hospital where she had been a patient for two days. She was born Nov. 30, 1900, in the Town of Schleswig, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hartmann. She attended rural public school and St. Gregory's Catholic School at St. Nazianz. She was married to William Stauber Sept. 25, 1923. They lived in the Town of Eaton for several years before moving to Kiel. Her husband died in October, 1953. WILLIAM STAUBER Kiel Woodenware Employe Is Killed In Mishap Tuesday. KIEL - William Stauber, 56, of Route 2, Kiel, a truck driver for the Kiel Woodenware Co., was killed almost instantly in an accident at the plant here early Tuesday afternoon. According to the report of Calumet County Coroner Dr. John Knauf, Stauber, who had been employed by the local firm for 27 years was preparing to remove a load of cheese boxes from his truck onto a loading platform when the fatal accident happened. He had backed his truck up to the platform and gone into the plant for a power lift tractor. As he was driving the lift up onto the rear apron of his truck, the vehicle moved ahead, tipping the lift over backward and pinning Stauber between it and the concrete loading platform. Dr. Knauf reported Stauber died almost instantly of a skull fracture. He said no inquest will be necessary. Mr. Stauber was born July 27, 1897, in the Town of Eaton (Manitowoc County), a son of the late Ignatz and Theresa Glasser Stauber. He received his early education at St. Gregory Catholic School, St. Nazianz. He married the former Hilda Hartman of Schleswig on Sept. 25, 1923. They lived on a farm until 1926 when they moved to Kiel, making their home there ever since. He was a member of the St. Nazianz branch, Catholic Order of Foresters, and the Kiel Redmen Lodge. Survivors include the wife; three sisters, Mrs. Louis Schweitzer of Kiel, Mrs. Joseph Kautzer of St. Nazianz and Mrs. Ernst Voss of the Town of Schleswig; and one brother, John, of St. Nazianz. EARL M. STECKER Earl M. Stecker, age 58, of 1016 3rd Street, Kiel died Monday evening January 4, at Calumet Medical Center, Chilton. He was born on April 1, 1929, in Kiel the son of the late Edwin and Adele Berth Stecker. Mr. Stecker graduated from Kiel High School and was married to Janet Orth Oct. 4, 1952 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. He was employed at Stoelting Inc. Kiel, for 36 years, most recently Manager of the Engineering Department. He was a veteran of the US. Army during the Korean War, and a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, and the VFW Post 6707. The former Olga Mahlberg was born July 8, 1898, at Kiel, daughter of John and Elizabeth Kern Mahlberg. She attended parochial Schools at Jericho. On Jan. 10, 1922, she married Walter L. Stecker of Kiel at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Jericho. They owned and operated the Commercial Hotel at Kiel for 14 years, and moved to Sheboygan in 1965. Mrs. Stecker was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and its Christian Women’s Society. Survivors are his husband; two sons, Roland of Greendale and Walter of Milwaukee; two daughters, Mrs. John (Marlea) Lenshek of New Berlin and Mrs. Peter (Betty) Dorn of New Holstein; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Katie Mauer of New Holstein. LAURIE STEFFEN Laurie A. Steffen, 25, of 909 Seventh Street, Kiel, died Monday night, September 12, as a result of a traffic accident. GRACE ELIZABETH STIER Grace Elizabeth Stier, age 93 , of New Holstein and formerly of Kiel died unexpectedly on Sunday morning, September 23, 2012 at Calumet Medical Center, Chilton. She was the daughter of the late Peter & Rose (Schnell) Menne, born April 17, 1919 in Kiel. Grace attended SS Peter & Paul Grade School and graduated with honors from Kiel High School in 1937. She was employed at the former Kiel Telephone Exchange as a telephone operator until her marriage. On January 4, 1941 she married Leslie Stier in the rectory of SS Peter & Paul Parish. After the couples marriage they farmed in Charlestown and later in the town of Schleswig. Her husband Leslie preceded her in death on June 10, 1994. Grace was a devout christian, and was active with both Holy Rosary & SS Peter & Paul Catholic Churches. She enjoyed making quilts for her children & grandchildren. She also worked word search puzzles and did embroidery work. Grace was an avid reader, usually reading a book a week and enjoyed baking for her family. She is survived by seven children: Kathleen (Wayne) Casper, Kiel, Carol (Dick) Jens, Kiel, Dr. Jeffrey Stier, Madison, Paul (Marilyn) Stier, West Ben, Dr. Kenneth (Julie) Stier, Normal, IL, Dale (Carol) Stier, Kiel and Donald (Andrea) Stier, New Holstein. She is further survived by 25 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, two step grandchildren, one brother, Gerald (Mary Ann) Menne, Green Bay, one sister-in-law, Audrey Menne, Kiel, nieces, nephews, one special niece and Godchild Kathy Heise, other relatives and friends. HELMUTH H. STIER Helmuth H. Stier, 81, of R. 1, New Holstein, died Thursday night at Calumet Memorial Hospital at Chilton where he had been a patient for two weeks. He was born Aug. 29, 1890, son of the late Karl and Theresa Eichmeier Stier, in New Holstein. He attended district schools. On Nov. 20, 1912 he married Paulina Ramminger at New Holstein. The couple farmed in the Town of New Holstein and later Mr. Stier was employed at the A.A. Laun Furniture Co. at Kiel and Thielmann Sausage Co. at Elkhart Lake. LESLIE STIER Leslie H. Stier, 79, of W479 Stahl Rd., New Holstein, died Friday, June 10, 1994 at Calumet Medical Center, Chilton. He was born May 10, 1915 in the Town of New Holstein, son of the late Helmuth and Paulina Ramminger Stier. He was a 1933 graduate of New Holstein High School. On Jan. 4, 1941 he married Grace Menne at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic church, Kiel. He farmed all his life. PAULINA STIER Mrs. Pauline(sic) Stier, 80 of Route 1, New Holstein, widow of Helmuth H., died late Saturday at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton, where she has been a patient for three days. The former Pauline Ramminger, she was born December 9, 1891 in the Town of New Holstein, daughter of the late Henry and Catherine Diedrich Ramminger. She was married to Mr. Stier at New Holstein on November 20, 1912. The couple farmed in the Town of New Holstein, and lived in Kiel for several years before moving back to the New Holstein area. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1962. Mr. Stier died the past March 24. She was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. Survivors are two sons, Leslie of Route 1, New Holstein, and Lloyd of New Holstein; 14 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Charles Stier of Route 2, Chilton, Mrs. Norbert Gilsdorf of Route 1, Elkhart Lake, Miss Elda Ramminger of Neenah, and Miss Edna Ramminger of Madison; and two brothers, Joseph of Sheboygan and Othmar of Morrison. IDA STRAYVE Called By Death Mrs. Ida Strayve, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. Phillip, passed away at the home of her parents, Oct. 1?th, after a lingering illness. The immediate cause of death was heart failure. Deceased was born in the town of Schleswig, May 8, 1890, having reached the age of 33 years, 5 months and 29 days. She was married January, 1918, the couple moved to West Chicago, Ill., where she lived with her family until April this year, when she came home for a visit with her parents, but became too ill to return to her home in West Chicago. Of this union were born three children, Rudolph, Oletta and Frank, the latter preceding his mother in death ten months ago. ANNA TAUBEL Mrs. Anna Taubel died on Sunday at the hospital in Sheboygan, where she had been cared for the past two years, after a short illness with pneumonia. She was born in Germany, May 11, 1848, and came to America in 1884, locating at Dale, Wis., where she was married to Franz Joseph Taubel, in 1886. The couple resided for a time on a farm near Jericho, and in 1892 moved to Hayton, coming to Kiel in 1910. Mr. Taubel died in 1911, since which time she had been living with her children, until she was taken to the hospital. She is survived by three sons, August of Chilton, Joseph of Sheboygan Falls, Jack in Neenah and one daughter, Mrs. J. Walber of Kiel; also one brother and a number of grandchildren. The funeral was held Wednesday morning from the Walber home to St. Peter & Paul’s church, where services were conducted by Rev. Rumpel. Interment was in the church cemetery. ELMER TEMRECK Elmer Temreck, 60, of 803 Second St., Kiel, died Sunday afternoon, June 8, at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, where he had been a patient the past several months. ELIZABETH THEOBALD Elizabeth S. Theobald, 90, formerly of 716 Milwaukee St., Kiel, died Friday morning at Calumet Homestead Nursing Home in New Holstein where she had resided for two and a half years. The former Elizabeth Schoenborn was born April 18, 1893, in Marytown, daughter of Math and Catherine Burg Schoenborn. She attended parochial school in Marytown. She was married to John Theobald on Oct. 7, 1913 at Visitation Catholic Church in Marytown. The couple farmed in the Town of New Holstein until 1922 when they moved to Kiel. Mr. Theobald died in 1947. Mrs. Theobald was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel, the Christian Mother’s Society, and GUG Germania Society. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Helmuth (Marie) Lechler and Mrs. Robert (Lydia) Bunge, both of Kiel and Mrs. Helen Janty of Elkhart Lake; nine grand- children; five great grandchildren; one sister, Miss Helen Schoenborn of Random Lake; one brother, Michael Schoenborn of Marytown. She was preceded in death by three sisters and six brothers. The funeral Mass will be at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel. The Rev. John De Groot, associate pastor, will be celebrant. JOHN THEOBALD John J. Theobald, 58, of 716 Milwaukee street, Kiel, passed away at his home last night. He retired in good health but was found dead in bed by his wife at 3:45 a.m. today. He was born at Stacyville, Iowa, on July 23, 1889, the son of Joseph and Anna Blunion Theobald. He came to Wisconsin about 37 years ago and on October 7, 1913, was married to Miss Elizabeth Schoenborn at Marytown. The couple resided in Town New Holstein until the fall of 1922 when they moved to Kiel. At Kiel the deceased was employed by the A.A. Laun Furniture company for 10 years and for the past 15 years had served as a foreman at the Kiel Mill Works. He was a member of the Holy Name society of St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic church. The survivors are: his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Helmuth (Marie) Lechler of Kiel, Mrs. Norbert (Helen) Janty of Elkhart Lake and Mrs. Robert (Lydia) Bunge of Kiel; two grandsons; his step-mother, Mrs. Anna Miller of Stacyville, Iowa; a half-brother, Peter Theobald, and a half-sister, Mrs. Joseph Mayer of Osage, Iowa. JOHN THEREN CALLED BY DEATH At his home on Paine Street, John Theren died Sunday after a lingering illness of tuberculosis. He was born at Johnsburg, June 27, 1886; was married in 1914 to Miss Tillie Foertsch and came to Kiel about a year ago, being employed as a painter, with Ed. Krostag. VIRGINIA THORNTON Mrs. Luverne Thornton, 59, of 202 Hillcrest Drive, Kiel, died Saturday afternoon at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Milwaukee, where she had been a patient for the past week. The former Virginia Wagner was born August 18, 1922 in Sheboygan, daughter of the late Nicholas and Paula Jensen Wagner. She was a 1940 graduate of Sheboygan North High School. She and Luverne Thornton were married on September 13, 1941, in Sheboygan. They resided in Sheboygan until 1979 when they moved to Kiel. Mrs. Thornton was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel, and of the Christian Mothers Society. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Richard of Boulder, Colorado and Daniel of Sheboygan Falls, and one sister, Mrs. Ruth Just of New Holstein. A funeral Mass was held at Ss. JOHN TILL, DR. John August Till, 76, a well-known plastic surgeon, died Monday afternoon at his home on the northern outskirts of Kiel. Death followed a heart attack. Born Aug. 11, 1870, in Schlesian, Austria, the deceased came to the United States in 1898, and resided for a number of years in several Manitowoc county communities. Later he returned to Austria, where on Sept. 9, 1912, he was married to Hedwig Steiner. The couple came back to America where Mr. Till practiced plastic surgery at New Richmond, Turtle Lake and Hudson, Wis., and in the spring of 1922 they returned to Europe. They settled in Kiel last year, shortly after their return from abroad. Survivors include the widow; one son, John William Till, Glos, England, and one grandson. LOIS L. TURBA Lois L. Turba passed away on Monday, December 11, at Menomonee Falls, following a brief illness. Lois, the daughter of Marie and the late Herbert Umland, was a former Kiel High School teacher, teaching English and physical education from 1951 through 1953. During recent years she has been teaching in the Menomonee Falls School District, serving as an English teacher and as a reading specialist. RALPH J. TURBA Funeral services for Ralph John Turba, who passed away suddenly, were held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Menomonee Falls, on Tuesday. Interment was at Ss. Peter and Paul cemetery in Kiel, with Rev. Msgr. Peter Klauck officiating. A former Kiel resident, Ralph was the son of the late Ermina Wieseckel Turba and Otto Turba. He attended Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School and was a 1945 graduate of Kiel High School. He was a former member of the armed forces, serving in the US Navy. Turba was in the computer sales department of M&I Bank- Milwaukee, for 30 years retiring in December 1990. In December 1958, he married Lois Umland who died December 1989. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one sister. Survivors are a son, Craig of Menomonee Falls; two daughters Lois Turba-Rogers of Dayton, Ohio; and Lisa a student at Whitewater College and one sister, Bernice (Allison) Gebhard of New Holstein.


FRANK UMFUHRER Sacrifice to the Train Last week Thursday morning, the deaf and dumb son of the Austrian couple, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Umfuhren(sic) who work for Mrs. Katie Ramminger in the Town of New Holstein, was hit by a special south bound St. Paul train, and died immediately. The accident happened at the train crossing by the cheese factory near Seven Corners about two miles north of Kiel. The train stopped and brought the inidentified boy to Kiel, where he was transferred to the Meiselwitz funeral home. Later the boy was identified when his parents came to claim him. The boy was not on the tracks at the time of the accident as the body was not mutilated, but he had a broken neck and two broken legs as well as a large wound on his head. RAYMOND J. VOELKER Raymond J. Voekler, 74, of 320 St. Paul Street, Kiel, died February 9, at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton. He was born March 15, 1903, in Kiel, a son of Herman and Ida Lawrence Voelker. He graduated from Kiel High School in 1922. On February 26, 1927, he married the former Romilda Mies in Kiel. Mr. Voelker was a salesman and routeman for the Kiel Bottling Works for 42 years, retiring in 1972. The couple observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1977. He was a member of the Manitowoc Tribe 49, Improved Order of Red Men and the 24 Hour Club of the lodge and the Kiel Fish and Game Club. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Robert Wilkens, Kiel and Mrs. Mel Rinka, Milwaukee; 14 grandchildren and a great grandchild, and a sister, Mrs. Henry Meiselwitz, Kiel. ROMILDA VOELKER Mrs. Raymond J. Voelker, 71, of 320 St. Paul St., Kiel, died this morning at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan, where she had been a patient the past 2 1/2 weeks. The former Romilda Mies, she was born in Kiel on Jan. 16, 1908, a daughter of Hubert and Mary Nett Mies. She attended school in Kiel. On Feb. 26, 1927, she and Raymond J. Voelker were married. He died Feb. 9, 1978. Mrs. Voelker was a cook for the Kiel Elementary School for many years. She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, and its’ Christian Mothers Society, of which she was a past president. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Doris) Wilkens of Kiel and Mrs. Mel (Jean) Rinka of Milwaukee; 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother. ARLEN W. VOGEL Vogel, 32, Victim Of Kiel Crash. KIEL - Arlen W. Vogel, 32, father of two young daughters, was killed almost instantly about 10:45 p.m. Saturday when the car he was driving left Highway 57 between here and New Holstein and turned over. Vogel who lived at 819 Seventh St., Kiel, was the operator of a curb and gutter construction business which he had established several weeks ago. Prior to that he had been employed by the Vogel Construction Co. of New Holstein. According to reports of Calumet County traffic officers, Vogel was alone in his southbound car when it failed to make a curve at the northern approach to the highway overhead less than a mile north of Kiel. After leaving the road the auto rolled over and came to a stop on its top. Vogel was dead when removed from the wreckage, according to reports. Death was attributed to a skull fracture. His death was Calumet County's third highway fatality of 1956. A son of Arno F. and the late Mrs. Hattie Schmidt Vogel, he was born in the town of Schleswig, Manitowoc County, Jan. 10, 1924. He attended district school in the town and on Nov. 6, 1956 married the former Betty Arnold of Kiel. The couple had resided in Kiel since marriage. BETTY J. VOGEL Betty J. Vogel, 79, of Kiel, died peacefully Monday morning, April 14, 2008 at St. Luke's Medical Center, Milwaukee, surrounded by her loving family. She was the former Betty J. Arnold, born July 9, 1928 in Kiel, daughter of the late Hubert & Edwina Nett Arnold. Betty was a 1946 graduate of Kiel High School. On November 6, 1946 she married Arlen Vogel at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Kiel. Arlen preceded her in death on September 22, 1956. Betty was employed at the former Children's Shop in Kiel for a number of years and a teacher's aid at SS Peter & Paul Grade School, Kiel for 25 years. She was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church and the Christian Women's Society. She also was a former Girl Scout leader for many years. Betty's family was the most important thing in her life and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grand- children. She also enjoyed "search a word", playing with small hand games, shopping and sturgeon fishing with her sister-in-law. Survivors include her three daughters, six grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. She is further survived by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, her best friend, other relatives and friends. ANDREW BRIAN VOLAND Andrew Brian Voland, 10, of Kiel died Thursday afternoon, Nov. 3, 1994 at his mother’s home in Sheboygan Falls, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 6, 1984 in Chilton, son of Brian F. Voland and Jean M. Pingel Leftwich. He was currently in the 5th grade at Ss Peter and Paul Catholic grade school in Kiel. He was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel and member of Kiel Mariners Little League Baseball Team. Andrew loved camping, fishing, baseball, basketball and he was an avid 49’ers fan. He took second in the State B.B. Gun competition in the spring of 1994. Survivors include his father, Brian of Kiel; his mother, Mrs. Jean (Scott) Leftwich, Sheboygan Falls; one sister, Melissa, at home; paternal Grandparents, Elwood and Virginia Voland, Kiel; maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Carol Pingel, New Holstein, and two special friends, Brock and Evan Walsh. He was born February 3, 1935 in the town of Schleswig, son of the late Elmer & Viola Dedering Voland. Elwood was a 1953 graduate of Kiel High School and also certified in Law Enforcement. On April 30, 1955 he married Virginia Koeser at St. George Catholic Church, Elkhart Lake. Elwood was a supervisor at Tecumseh Products, New Holstein for 38 years retiring in 1994. He also served in the Kiel Police Reserve and was a part-time Police Officer for the City of Kiel for 24 years. After retirement from Tecumseh he worked as a custodian at SS Peter & Paul Parish until present. Elwood was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, the Kiel Alumni Pep Band and was a Kiel little league coach for many years. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren and looked forward to playing "Skip-bo" & "Sequence" with his family. He also enjoyed doing puzzles. His favorite past-time was taking care of SS Peter & Paul Parish. Elwood was "Mr. Handyman" for the parish. He was always a helping hand to anyone who needed help as he could fix anything & his talents will be missed by many, especially his family. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Virginia, four sons: Jeff (Dawn) of Kiel, Brian (Gina) of Kiel, Rodney (Stephanie) of Appleton, Kevin (Kathy) of Kiel and 11 grandchildren, (private). He is further survived by one sister, Bernice (Edward) Palazzo, Kiel & one brother-in-law, John Snow, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his sister, Delores Snow and special grandson, Andrew Voland. Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Kiel with the Rev. Loren Nys S.D.S. & Rev. Michael Burns S.D.S. officiating Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, 815 6th. St., Kiel on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 when brief family rites will be held. A wake service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for SS Peter & Paul School. Elwood's family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Calumet Medical Center, Chilton and St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton for their help and a special thank you to Rev. Loren & Rev. Mike for their visits and prayers.


NANCY A. VOLLMAR Nancy A. Vollmar (Nee Miller) of Elm Grove was born into eternal life on Friday, June 23, 2000 at the age of 64. She was born and raised in Kiel and was graduated from Kiel High School. She was the beloved wife of 42 years of David L., loving mother of Jonathan (Susan), Steven Vollmar and Anne (Brian) Moore, world’s best Grammy of Kathryn and Elizabeth, beloved daughter of Genrose and the late Norbert Miller of Kiel, and dear sister of Marilyn (Richard) Douglas and Glen (Lynn) Miller. She is also remembered by other relatives and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Joseph Church in Brookfield with graveside services at Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Kiel.
