ALVIN PAGEL Funeral service for Alvin Pagel, 69 years, town of Schleswig, who passed away at his home on Wednesday were held at 2 p.m. Friday at Meiselwitz Funeral Home in Kiel. Rev. E. L. Worthman, pastor of St. Peter Ev. and Ref. church, officiated. During the service Mrs. Robert J. Casper and Mrs. Alfred Steinhardt sang, “Rock of Ages,” “Beyond the Sunset” and “Abide With Me.” Mrs. Howard Vorpahl was the accompanist. EUDINE PAGEL AND MARIAN MAHLOCH Hold Last Rites Here For Eudine Pagel, Miss Mahloch Joint funeral services for the Misses Marian Mahloch and Eudine Pagel, tragedy victims on Monday evening, December 23rd , near this city, were held from the Meiselwitz Funeral Home on Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock. The funeral home was crowded to capacity by about 350 sorrowing relatives, friends and neighbors of both families. The Rev. Mr. Voss, who is taking a post graduate course at the Mission House, near Franklin, officiated at the services, and is serving the First Presbyterian church as substitute pastor. The Rev. Voss chose his sermon topic from the 39th Psalm, the 4th verse, as follows: “Lord, Make Me To Know Mine End, and the Measure of My Days, What It Is: That I may Know How Frail I Am.” And the 23rd Psalm, “The Lord Is My Shepherd.” Mrs. Edwin M. Duecker and Melvin C. Timm sang “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere,” and “Does Jesus Care”? with Mr Timm as piano accompanist. The pallbearers for Eudine were six of her graduating class of last year: Clarence Goebel, Erland Lawrence, Norwood Phillips, John Christel, Norman Reichart, and Norbert Horneck. Pallbearers for Marian were six members of her sophomore class here last year: Arthur Kaemmer, Jr., Lloyd Zick, Kenneth Kraft, Elmer Schneider, Roger Schaefer, and Dale Green. Numerous beautiful floral tributes were sent by friends, relatives, neighbors and classes of the Kiel high school. Burial for Marian was made in the Kiel cemetery, while burial for Eudine, was make in the Rockville cemetery, in the respective family resting places. The Meiselwitz Funeral Home was visited by many friends of the two tragedy victims from Thursday afternoon up until the hour of the services on Friday. People travelled many miles to attend the double funeral. - 1935

HENRIETTE PAGEL Mrs. Henrietta Pagel, who with her husband settled at Kiel forty years ago, died at Valders and was buried there Friday. Mrs. Pagel made her home with a daughter, Mrs. Wm Fuhram at Valders, having resided there since the death of her husband in 1899. Six sons and one daughter survive her. HERMAN PAGEL Herman Pagel, 81, R. 2, Kiel, a retired Town of Schleswig (Manitowoc County) farmer, was pronounced dead on arrival at Calumet Memorial Hospital this morning after suffering a heart attack at home. He was born Feb. 26, 1890, in the Town of Schleswig, a son of the late Robert and Katherine Arnold Pagel and attended the district school in Rockville. On March 26, 1919, he married Hilma Roehrdanz. They farmed on the Pagel homestead farm. Mrs. Pagel died Aug. 6, 1965 and Mr. Pagel made his home since then with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Pagel. He was a member of the Kiel Redmen Lodge. Survivors include his son Willis, R. 2, Kiel; and a daughter, Mrs. Victor (Elaine) Binder, of Kiel; one grandson; two sisters, Mrs. Amanda Kaemmer, and Mrs. Olinda Spindler, both of rural Sheboygan Falls; a brother, Philip, of Kiel. He was preceded in death by one brother. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, with the Rev. John F. HILDA PAGEL Mrs. Hilda Pagel, 84, a former Kiel resident and widow of Philip Pagel, died December 15, 15 Rocky Knoll Health Care Facility. She was born January 13, 1894, at Howards Grove, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Dedow. She attended district schools. On June 5, 1934 she was married to Mr. Pagel in Waukegan, Illinois. The couple resided on a farm in the town of New Holstein. Her husband preceded her in death on March 18, 1978. Mrs. Pagel was a member of Trinity Lutheran church, Kiel and its Ladies Aid Society. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Carl Biddiscombe of South Pasadena, California, and Mrs. Donna J. Erdmann of Indialantic, Florida; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral services were Monday at Trinity Lutheran church. The Rev. Richard Warnke, pastor, officiated. Burial was in the Schleswig Cemetery at Rockville. HILMA PAGEL Mrs. Herman Pagel, 71, died at her R. 2, Kiel home, Friday evening, following a short illness. The former Hilma Roehrdanz, she was born, Jan. 15, 1894, to the late Fred and Mary Pingel Roehrdanz in the Town of Schleswig. She attended district school in Rockville and was married to Herman Pagel, March 26, 1919, at her home. After marriage, the couple located on the Pagel homestead farm in the Town of Schleswig, where they spent their entire married life. She was a member of the Schleswig Cemetery Association Ladies Aid. Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Victor (Elaine) Binder of Kiel, a son, Willys, R. 2, Kiel; one grandson; and three sisters, Mrs. Joseph F. Schneider, R. 2, Kiel; Mrs. Alma Burg, Chilton and Mrs. Joseph Yehle, Elkhart Lake. Friends may view the body after 3 p.m. Sunday at Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel. KATHERINE PAGEL Mrs. Pagel of Kiel is Called at Age of 80 Kiel – Mrs. Robert Pagel, 80, resident here, passed away Tuesday at 11 p.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Albert Kaemmer, in the town of Mosel where she has been for the past 11 months. She had been ill for eight years. Mrs. Pagel, nee Katherine Arnold, was born July 17, 1857, in the town of Schleswig where she spent her entire life. On March 10, 1885, she was united in marriage to Robert Pagel of the town of Schleswig and the couple located on the Pagel homestead in that township where they resided 34 years. Eighteen years ago they sold the farm to their son, Herman, and moved to Kiel where they resided since. Survivors are: the husband, three sons, Alvin and Herman, both of the town of Schleswig, Philip of Kiel and two daughters, Mrs. Albert Kaemmer of the town of Mosel and Mrs. Theodore Spindler of the town of Rhine, nine grandchildren and two brothers, Jacob Arnold of Menomonee Falls and Philip Arnold of Kiel. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m., at the C. J. Meiselwitz Funeral home here. The Rev. Harold O. Grunwald of Zion Evangelical Lutheran church at Louis Corners will officiate and burial will be made in Rockville cemetery, near Kiel. OLGA PAGEL Mrs. Olga Pagel, 73, of 423 North St., Kiel, died early today at St. Nicholas Hospital where she had been a patient for five weeks. She was born Jan. 26, 1892, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Balz. She attended school in Kiel and was married in 1918 at Rockville to Alvin Pagel. They operated a farm in the Town of Schleswig until 1956 when her husband died. She then moved to Kiel. Surviving are a brother, Walter Balz, rural Kiel, and a sister, Mrs. Norman Martin, Kiel. She was preceded in death by a daughter and two brothers. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, with the Rev. PHILIP PAGEL Philip Pagel, 90, Route 2, Kiel, died March 18, at St. Nicholas Hospital where he had been a patient for the past three weeks. He was born November 28, 1887, in the town of Schleswig, a son of Robert and Katherine Arnold Pagel. He attended school at Rockville. On June 5, 1934, he married Hilda Dedow at Waukegan, Illinois. The couple lived on a farm in the Town of New Holstein. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Kiel. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Carl Biddiscombe of South Pasadena, California, and Mrs. Donna J. ROBERT PAGEL Robert Pagel, aged 84, passed away at his home at 711 N. Third street last week Monday. He was born in Germany on January 3, 1857, the son of Fred and Henrietta Pagel. The family moved to a farm in the town of Schleswig, now owned by a son, Herman, in 1869. He was married to Katherine Arnold of Schleswig on March 10, 1885, the late Rev. Ludwig Zenk officiating. The couple lived on the farm for 34 years and in 1919 moved to this city. His wife died on August 17, 1937. Survivors are three sons; Herman on the homestead farm; Alvin of the town of Schleswig, and Philip of the town of New Holstein; two daughters: Mrs. Albert (Amanda) Kaemmer of the town of Mosel, and Mrs. Theodore (O'Linda) Spindler of the town of Rhine; nine granchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harold O. Grunwald officiating. Burial was made in the Rockville cemetery. Pallbearers were Oscar Arnold, Alvin Brandes, Theodore Pagel, William Pagel, Arno Pagel, and Walter Schlichting. - January 20, 1941


WILLIS PAGEL Willis R. Pagel, 67, of 13635 Cedar lake Road, Kiel, died Tuesday morning, January 12, at Rocky Knoll Health Care Center, where he had resided for the past five years. Survivors are his wife, the former Irene Glasow, a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Tammy Pagel of Chilton; two grandchildren. Pagel was preceded in death by a sister. Funeral services were Thursday at Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel. The Rev. John Baumann, pastor of St. Peter United Church of Christ, Kiel, officiated. Burial was Schleswig cemetery. AUGUSTA PARMAN Mrs. Augusta (Bruss) Parman, 2319 Meachem St. age 82. Passed away March 4 at the home of her daughter Mrs. Clarence Steeves. She was born August 17, 1869 in the Town of Rhine, Wisconsin and had live in Racine for two years, coming from Madison. Mrs. Parman was a member of the Order of Eastern Star of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Clarence Steeves with whom she made her home; one son, Harry Parman, Fond du Lac; one sister; five grandchildren, five great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday at Kiel, Wisconsin with Rev. Dr. M.R. Siemens of Racine officiating. Interment will be in Kiel, Wisconsin. AUGUSTA PERSCHKE Last week Thursday evening in the home of her daughter Mrs. Gottfied Mueller, Mrs. Auguste Perschke, a long-time resident of the Town of Schleswig and Kiel, died from dropsy (heart failure) after a lengthy illness. The deceased, who was born Fischer on June 5, 1845 in (Uckermark), Brandenburg province, Germany and came to America in 1863. She married Carl Perschke in 1865 and they settled down in Rockville. The marriage was blessed with six children, of which one daughter died. Her husband died twelve years ago. She leaves behind four sons and one daughter, eleven grandchildren and one brother. The burial took place on Monday afternoon at the Rockville Cemetery with Pastor Rech (St. Peter UCC) officiating. CHARLES PERSCHKE (d. 1953) Charles Perschke, 83, retired Town of Sheboygan farmer, died this morning at his home, 813 National Ave., following a lingering illness. Born Aug. 29, 1869 at Rockville, Manitowoc County, he was a son of the late Carl and Augusta Perschke. He attended school at Rockville and was confirmed at the Kiel Zion Reformed Church by the late Rev. Ludwig Zenk. On Dec. 23, 1899, he married the former Minnie Kletzien. The couple farmed near Erdman for 25 years and for the past 20 years resided in Sheboygan. He was a member of the Zion Reformed Church here. Surviving are the wife; two daughters, Mrs. Viola Perschke Harms of Town of Mosel and Mrs. Loretta Perschke Stolz of Washington, D. C.; two grandchildren; six great grandchildren, and one brother, Otto Perschke, Sheboygan. Preceding Mr. Perschke in death were two infant sons, two brothers and two sisters. Services will be held at the Ballhorn Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Clarence Koehler, pastor of Zion Reformed Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Rockville Cemetery. MINNIE PERSCHKE Mrs. Minnie M. Perschke, 85, widow of Charles, former Sheboygan resident, died at 2:30 pm today at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac. Mrs. Perschke who had been ailing five weeks had been making her home with a daughter, Mrs. George Hensel in Fond du Lac. The former Minnie Kletzien, she was born in the Town of Schleswig (Manitowoc Co.) August 12, 1875, a daughter of the late Abraham and Emelia Kletzien. She was married to Mr. Perschke in 1898 and the couple lived most of their married life in Sheboygan. Her husband died in February, 1943. Surviving in addition to the daughter, Mrs. Hensel, are another daughter, Mrs. John Stolz, Washington D.C., two grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and a brother, Rudolph Kletzien, Manitowoc. Two sons, a sister and six brothers preceded her in death. Services will be held at 2 pm Friday at the Candish Funeral Home in Fond du Lac, with the Rev. Willard Hanser, pastor of Hope Lutheran church, Fond du Lac, officiating. Burial will be in Rockville Cemetery near Kiel. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2:30 pm Thursday. WILLIAM PERSCHKE Kiel, Wis—William Frederick Perschke, aged sixty-three, passed away Thursday at the home of his nephew, Edgar Mueller, who resides six miles southeast of Kiel. He had been ill for two months and confined to his bed since July 6. Mr. Perschke was born September 29, 1867, on a farm in Rockville where he grew to manhood. When a youth of eighteen he entered his father’s wagonshop and learned the trade. After the death of his parents, he continued the business for a number of years before he sold it and purchased a farm near Kiel, which now is owned by Hubert Nett. A few years later he traded the farm property for a residence here, and several years later he disposed of the residence to John Johst and made his home with his sister, Mrs. Gottfried Mueller in the town of Schleswig. After his sister passed away nine years ago he made his home with his nephew, who took over the old homestead. The survivors are three brothers, Carl of Kiel, August and Otto of Unity, Wis. The funeral will be held Saturday, a service at the Mueller home will be followed by another services in the Zion Evangelical Lutheran church at Louis Corners. The Rev. ELVA W. PETERSEN Elva W. Petersen, 88, of 133 Glenview Ave., Brillion, formerly a rural Kiel resident, died Thursday morning Oct 15, 1998, at Calumet Homestead Rehabilitation Center, New Holstein. She is the former Elva Rades, born June 11, 1910 in the town of Schleswig, daughter of the late William and Elsa Roesch Rades. At the age of nine her parents and her moved to Steinthal, town of Eaton, where she attended the former Elder Grove School. On Oct. 2, 1935 she married Ervin Petersen at the parsonage of St. Peter’s UCC, Kiel. In 1950 the couple bought her parents’ farm where she lived for 69 years. Since 1988 she had been living in Brillion. Her husband preceded her in death on April 24, 1980. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Verene and Lenroy Haese, Brillion; four grandchildren, five great grandchildren. She is further survived by two sisters- in-law, Mabel Petersen, Valders and Lois Petersen, Chicago, and brother and sister- in-law James M. and Florence Carter, Chicago and nieces and nephews. She is further survived by two sisters-in-law, Mabel Petersen, Valders, and Lois Petersen, Chicago; one brother and sister-in-law, James M. and Florence Carter, Chicago; and nieces and nephews. ERVIN A. PETERSEN Ervin A. Petersen, 70, of Route 1, Kiel, Town of Eaton, died unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, April 24, at home. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Peter United Church of Christ, Kiel. The Rev. John Baumann, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in Schleswig Cemetery in Rockville. Mr. Petersen was born June 20, 1909, at Berwick, N.D., son of Mathilda Riemann Petersen and the late Martin Petersen. He attended schools in North Dakota and married Elva Rades of the Town of Eaton Oct. 2, 1935, at St. Peter United Church of Christ, Kiel. Following marriage they farmed the Rades homestead farm in the Town of Eaton for 44 years, retiring in 1974. He was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Lenroy (Verlene) Haese of Brillion; his mother, Mrs. Mathilda Koenig of Addison, Ill.; three sisters, Mrs. Eleanor Sanders of Standish, Mich., Mrs. Irene Ford of Chicago and Mrs. Florence Carter of Addison and four grandchildren. KATHERINE PETZOLD Mrs. William Petzold, 73, of 734 Third St., Kiel; died Sunday afternoon at the Memorial Hospital, Sheboygan, where she had been a patient for the past 10 days. Her maiden name was Katherine Buchholz. She was born in the Town of Schleswig, the daughter of the late Joseph and Christine Rades Buchholz. She attended the district school and she was married to William Petzold of the town of Schleswig on Nov. 8, 1902. The couple operated the Petzold homestead farm in the town of Schleswig until their retirement in 1946 when they moved to Kiel. Survivors include her husband, four sisters, Mrs. Ida Gast, Milwaukee; Mrs. Henry Kattre, Kiel; Mrs. John J. Kuhn, Ada; and Mrs. Mary Reichardt, town of Schleswig; and two brothers, William of Kiel; and Herman of the town of Schleswig. She was preceded in death by one brother, Carl. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church, Kiel. The Rev. E. L. Worthman will officiate. Burial will be in the Rockville Cemetery. WILLIAM H. PETZOLD William H. Petzold, 77, of 731 Third St., Kiel, died early Sunday afternoon at Memorial Hospital, Sheboygan, where he had been a patient 14 weeks. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at st. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church, Kiel. The Rev. Vernon E. Jayberg will officiate and burial will be in Rockville Cemetery. Mr. Petzold was born in the Town of Schleswig Oct. 12, 1879, son of the late Gustav and Paulina Goebel Petzold. He attended district schools in Millhome and Nov. 8, 1902, married Katherine Buchholz. The couple farmed the Petzold homestead farm until retiring in 1946. They resided several years at Ada and moved to Kiel in 1949. Mrs. Petzold died in November of 1955. Mr. Petzold is survived by a sister, Mrs. Amelia Diefenthaler, and a brother Carl, of Kiel. ANITA PICHLER The funeral of Mrs. Ludwig Pichler of Sheboygan took place in Kiel on Monday afternoon, with services in the Reformed church. Rev. W. Rech officiating. Interment in the Rockville cemetery. Mrs. Pichler, who was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Stecker of Sheboygan, died on Saturday morning at St. Nicholas hospital, after suffering for a period of nearly three years. She had been in the hospital for about four weeks, but her illness dated back to an attack of influenza nearly three years ago. She was born in the town of Schleswig, December 14, 1891, and was married about 10 years ago to Mr. Pichler, the couple taking up their residence in Kiel. A son was born to them five years ago. They came to Sheboygan about four years ago and resided here ever since. Mr. Pichler is a talented violinist and was a member of the Kiel Arion orchestra when the couple lived here. He is violinist at the Rex Theater in Sheboygan at present. Survivors are her husband and son, Walter, mother and father, three brothers, Edwin of Kiel, Walter of Fond du Lac and Milton of Sheboygan. CARL PICKRUHN In the home of his son-in-law Mr. Henry Widder, in the Town of Sheboygan, on Tuesday morning, Mr. Carl Pickruhn passed away. He was born in the Province of Pommern, on August 27, 1828, and was at the time of his death 82 years old. Mr. Pickruhn came to America in 1852 and purchased a farm in the Town of Schleswig, which he farmed until 17 years ago, when he moved to Kiel to retire, and for about the last year and a half he has lived with Mr. Henry Widder in the Town of Sheboygan. The deceased was married twice and his second wife preceded him in death about 6 years ago. He leaves behind, ten children, namely: Herman Pickruhn in Brillion, Mrs. Edward Salzmann in Louis Corners, Mrs. Ernst Liermann in Milwaukee, Carl Pickruhn in Granton, Wisconsin, Mrs. Alfred Voland in Town of Schleswig, Mrs. John Neumann in South Milwaukee, Mrs. Henry Schilling in Town of Schleswig, Theo Pickruhn in Town of Plymouth; 31 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. ANNA PINGEL Anna Pingel Passes Away Miss Anna M. Pingel, aged 69, passed away Tuesday night, at 6:30 o'clock at the Holy Family hospital in Manitowoc, where she submitted to an operation on March 1st. The deceased was born April 8, 1875 in the town of Schleswig, near Kiel, the daughter of the late John and Maria Zachow Pingel. She attended school there and on May 26, 1890 was confirmed by the Rev. M. Denninger in the Evangelical Lutheran Zion church at Louis Corners. She spent the greater part of her life in the vicinity of Kiel, doing housework as long as her health permitted. While living in this city she was a faithful member of the Evangelical Lutheran Trinity church. Survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Mary Roehrdanz of Malone, and Mrs. Martha Jahnke of Cedarburg; seven nieces and one nephew. One sister, Mrs. Augusta Meyer of Neillsville preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock Saturday at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, and at 2 o'clock at the Trinity Lutheran church in this city, with the Rev. Harold O. Grunwald officiating. Burial will be made in the Rockville cemetery. CLARA PINGEL Miss Pingel is Summoned After Suffering Stroke Kiel – Miss Clara Pingel, aged 59, passed away at the county hospital, Sheboygan, on Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m., after suffering from a stroke on Wednesday evening. Miss Pingel had been a patient at the hospital for the past twelve years. She is the daughter of the late Johemm and Sophie Pingel. She was born on a farm in the Town of Schleswig, near Rockville, which is now owned by her brother-in-law, Fred Voland, on December 30th, 1874, formerly known as the Pingel homestead, where she spent her youth. The deceased is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Henry Becker of Kiel, Mrs. Ida Ryder of Sheboygan Falls, and Mrs. Fred Voland of near Rockville. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock at the C. J. Meiselwitz Funeral home at Kiel. The Rev. E. L. SOPHIA PINGEL (d. 1914) Mrs. Sophia Pingel, the wife of Joachim Pingel passed away suddenly at her home near Rockville on Friday night due to an apparent heart attack. She was born on the 25th of May, 1841 in Zachow, Mechlinberg, Schwerin, Germany and came to America in 1867 where she was married to Mr. Pingel two years later. They settled on a farm east of Rockville where she lived until her death. She had six children of which the following are still living; Mrs. Henry Becker and Mrs. Charles Ryder of Kiel, and Mrs. Fred Voland and Clara Pingel on the home farm on which her surviving husband is living. She also leaves 10 grandchildren. The funeral is Monday afternoon at the Rockville Cemetery with William Broeckert having the funeral address. Plymouth Post, January 24, 1914

LILLY A. PLATZ Mrs. Lilly A. Platz, 79, of 1106 Whittier Ave., Howards Grove, died late Monday in Sheboygan Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was born March 16, 1898 in Kiel, daughter of the late Henry and Martha Casper Backhaus, and attended schools in Kiel and the Town of Rhine. On Oct. 27, 1923, she married Robert A. Platz at Kiel. The couple resided in Sheboygan and later at Howards Grove. Mr. Platz died March 16, 1949. Mrs. Platz retired from the Kohler co. in 1960. She was a member of Ebenezer United Church of Christ, Sheboygan, the Mary Martha Circle and the adult school class of the church. Survivors include a son, three daughters (names omitted for privacy); 10 grandchildren; one brother, Lester Backus, of Tucson, Ariz., and a sister, Mrs. Erna Manz, of Howards Grove. ROBERT PLATZ Robert Platz, 51, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday following a lingering illness. Born Jan. 25, 1898, at Elkhart Lake, the son of Philip and Catherine Platz, he was married Oct. 27, 1923, in the town of Rhine to Lilly Backhaus, and following their marriage they resided in Sheboygan. For the past 13 years they made their home in Howards Grove. Mr. Platz was employed at the Kohler Co. for 20 years until the time of his illness. HOWARD PRAHL Cedar Lake Accident is Fatal Today Howard A. Prahl, 54, of route 1, Kiel, was killed during a logging operation in a swamp near Cedar Lake this morning when his tractor toppled backward on a hill. Prahl was pinned under the steering wheel of the machine. A son-in-law, Dr. Gerald Griffith of Plymouth, was with him at the time and ran for help as soon as the accident occurred. Prahl was dead when help arrived. The deceased was born at London, Wis., on Aug. 6, 1897, the son of Mr. and Mrs. August Prahl. On Nov. 10, 1923, he married Miss Hilma Voland of Schlesswig. Except for a short residence at Kiel, the couple lived in the town of Schlesswig. BEATA PRANGE-RAEDER Beata V. Prange-Raeder, 96, formerly of Kiel died Thursday afternoon March 27, 2008 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice where she had been a resident for the past week. She is the former Beata Lilge born August 31, 1911 in the Town of Schleswig, daughter of the late August and Bertha (Jeske) Lilge. On December 12, 1936 Beata married Milfred E. Prange at Zion Lutheran Church in Louis Corners. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1974. On November 3, 1979 she married Milton Raeder at Salem UCC in Plymouth. Milton preceded her in death on January 20, 1995. Beata was a homemaker for most of her life, dedicating her time to caring for her family. She also worked for Hansen Glove for several years. Beata was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church Kiel. She loved playing cards, traveling and taking fishing trips. Survivors include her son; Gene (Marion) Prange of rural Kiel, three grand- children; Douglas (Marsha) Prange of Kiel, Sharon Prange of Chicago IL, Sandy Prange of New Holstein, three great grandchildren; Jody Joas, Steven and Joseph Prange, two step-daughters; Delores (Edmund) Titel, Marilyn Schmitz both of Plymouth, three step-grandchildren and five step-great grandchildren. She is further survived by a sister; Lucy Jurgens, a resident of the Calumet Homestead, many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Beata was preceded in death by an infant grandson; Steven J. ROBERT PRITCHARD Robert M. Pritchard, 57, of 37 E. Water St., Kiel, died Thursday, apparently of a heart attack. He was born July 2, 1927, in Rio (Columbia Co.) a son of the late Fred and Emma Korn Pritchard. He was a 1945 graduate of Kiel High School and attended Marquette University in Milwaukee. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. His marriage to Joanne Arnold took place Sept. 17, 1949 in Kiel. He was owner and operator of Fred Pritchard and Son Inc. heating company. A member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kiel, he was a past trustee. He belonged to Kasper-Bechley- Wilkens American Legion Post 99, the Kiel Chamber of Commerce, and was a charter member of the Kiel Kiwanis Club. Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Nicholas (Susan) Ivey of London, England, Mrs. Timothy (Ann) Neuman of Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., and Amy Beth Pritchard of Madison; two sons, Robert Charles and Todd, both of Kiel; three grandsons; and a brother, Fred, of Milwaukee. Three sisters preceded him in death. The funeral will be Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Kiel. The Rev. Joe V. Anderson, pastor, will officiate. ADELINE PRUETER Mrs. Adeline Prueter, 80, formerly of 1202 S. 13th St,, Manitowoc and also of Shady Lane Home, died Saturday June 21, 1986 at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be 11:30 pm Tuesday at St. John United Church of Christ, Manitowoc. The Rev. Gerald Schrankler will officiate and burial will be in Schleswig Cemetery, Town of Schleswig. Mrs. Prueter was born February 25, 1906 in the Town of Mosel, Sheboygan County, daughter of the late Edward and Anna Fischer Wunsch. She attended schools in the Town of Mosel. She was married to Herman Prueter June 11, 1927 in the Town of Mosel and the couple came to Manitowoc to make their home. He preceded her in death in 1963. Mrs. Prueter was employed at Wisconsin Telephone Company as a Long Distance Telephone Operator from 1926-1940 and from 1941-1958 was a Sunday School Teacher and Church Secretary for the downtown First Reformed Church. Mrs. Prueter was a member of St. John United Church of Christ. The Women's Guild, Manitowoc Homemaker's Club, a charter member of Park Lawn Auxiliary, a life member of Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Manitowoc Senior Citizens and Manitowoc Area Chapter 812 AARP and Manitowoc Family Service. Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Gilman and Marcella Wunsch of Sheboygan and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. EDWARD L. PRUETER Edward L Prueter, age 93, of Sheboygan Falls, formely of Kiel died at Pine Haven Christian Home Nursing Center, Sheboygan Falls. He was born Sept 13,1912 in the town of Meeme, the only child of Louis and Martha Winkel Prueter. Eddie attended Mineral Springs School and was confirmed at St. Johns UCC, Schwarzwald in 1927. On Nov 10, 1934, Edward married Norma Simonsmeier at the parsonage of Community UCC, Elkhart Lake. The couple farmed on Eddie's home farm in the town of Meeme until the big hailstorm in 1967. They moved to Kiel and Eddie worked for the Stokely Van Camp Canning Co until his retirement in 1977. Eddie was a lifelong member of St John's UCC, Schwarzwald and served in many capacities including on the consistory. He also was custodian of the "Liberty Pole" in the town of Meeme near his home, even as a child when he assisted his father, until he sold the farm, Eddie also served as caretaker of the Schleswig (Rockville) Cemetery for many years and as president of the Schleswig Cemetery Association. He enjoyed playing cards, "tinkering", and spending time with his great-grandchildren. Edward is survived by Norma, his loving wife of 71 years, of Sheboygan Falls; one son Donald (Karen) Prueter, Howards Grove,; One grandaughter Lavonne (Nathan) Athorp, town of Mosel; one grandson, Douglas (Collen) Prueter, Mason, WI; and three great grandchildren, Justin, and Sara Athorp and Daylan Prueter. FRED L. PRUETER Fred Prueter, 77, 428 Chicago Street, Kiel died suddenly Tuesday evening while walking near his home. He was born August 14, 1888 in the town of Schleswig, a son of the late Herman and Mary Staffler Prueter. He attended district schools at Rockville. He married Hilda Hahn of Town Schleswig January 18, 1917. They operated a farm in Schleswig until they moved to Kiel in 1945. His wife preceded him in death in May 1962. Mr. Prueter was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ at Kiel. He was a member of the Churchmen’s Brotherhood. He was president and superintendent of the Schleswig Cemetery Association and former agent of Town Meeme Mutual Fire Insurance Company. HERMAN PRUETER (d. 1939) Pioneer Wagonmaker Of Kiel Is Summoned At Home Today Kiel, Wis—(Special)—Herman Prueter, Sr., 82, pioneer wagonmaker, smithy and farmer of this territory, passed away at the family residence here at 1716 N. Sixth Street at 9 o’clock this morning. He had been ill since Wednesday. Mr. Prueter was born in North Germany, Sept. 12, 1856. He came to America as a youth and learned the wagonmaker trade as an apprentice in Colby, Hilbert and Kiel. On May 21, 1882, he married Mary Staeffler, a native of town Schleswig, the ceremony being performed by the Rev. Daniel Illig. After their married Mr. Prueter operated a blacksmith shop in connection with a wagon shop for three years at Rockville, two miles east of Kiel. The couple then moved to a farm in town Schleswig where they lived until 1919, when they sold the farm to their son, Frederick, and erected the present Prueter home in this city. In 1932 they observed their golden wedding anniversary with a celebration at the Kiel city hall auditorium. Mr. Prueter is survived by his wife; five sons, Louis of town Meeme, Frederick of Rockville, Arthur of Fond du Lac, Hugo of Green Bay and Herman, Jr. of Two Rivers; three daughters, Mrs. Edward (Dora) Henschel of Kiel, Mrs. Otto (Minnie) Hildebrandt of Kiel and Mrs. Theodore (Anita) Meyer of town Meeme ; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Three brothers and four sisters preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at the home here Tuesday and at the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church. The Rev. E. L. HERMAN PRUETER (d. 1963) Herman Prueter, 60, of 724 S. 26th St. Manitowoc, died unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon at Washington Junior High School. He was maintenance foreman for Manitowoc Public Schools. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. John United Church of Christ, the Rev. Paul Blaufuss officiating. Burial will be in Rockville Cemetery, Kiel. Mr. Prueter was born July 8, 1902, in the Town of Schleswig, son of the late Herman and Mary Staeffler Prueter, and attended schools there. He was graduated from the Dairy School at University of Wiconsin in 1920, then came to Manitowoc where he was cheesemaker for Manitowoc Products Co. Later he was part-owner of Two Rivers Dairy and Manitowoc Gurnsey Dairy. He married Adeline Wunsch June 11, 1927, at Mosel, in Sheboygan County. The couple moved to Manitowoc shortly thereafter. He worked for some time for Manitowoc Builders and in 1948 began working for Manitowoc Public Schools in its maintenance department. In 1960, he was promoted to maintenance foreman. He was a member of St. John United church of Christ and Manitowoc Masonic Lodge No. 65, F. and A.M. Survivors include his wife; three brothers, Arthur of Green Bay, Fred of Kiel and Hugo of Anaheim, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Otto Hildebrand of Kiel and several nieces and nephews. Two sisters and a brother preceded him in death. MRS. ARTHUR (LORETTA L.) PRUETER Mrs. Arthur (Loretta L.) Prueter, 88, formerly of 911 Wilson Ave., died Friday, Nov. 1, 1991 in a local convalescent home. She was born May 17, 1903 in Waltham, Minn. to the late Ferdinand and Minnie (Wollenberg) Loehrke. She married Arthur Prueter June 15, 1923; he preceded her in death Nov. 20, 1975. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ladies Society, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and the Kitchen Band. She was also a member of the Bellin Hospital Senior Auxiliary and had been a volunteer at Woodside Nursing Home. She is survived by a niece, Janet Dunst, Milwaukee; and a nephew, Richard Loehrke, Fort Collins, Colo. She was also preceded in death by two brothers. LOUIS PRUETER Louis Prueter, 66, well-known Town of Meeme farmer, passed away Tuesday at the Sheboygan Memorial hospital. He was born July 16, 1883, at Rockville in the Town of Schleswig, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Prueter. He attended school at Rockville and was confirmed at the Bethlehem Reformed church in the Town of Schleswig. On Feb. 16, 1911, he was married to Miss Martha Winkel of the Town of Meeme. Throughout their married life the couple resided on the homestead farm on Highway 149 near the Liberty Pole. Mr. Prueter was treasurer of the Mineral Springs School for 12 years prior to his death. The survivors include his wife; one son, Edward, at home, and a grandson. Three sisters, Mrs. Theodore Meyer, Mrs. Edward Henschel, and Mrs. Otto Hildebrand, all of Kiel, also survive; with four brothers, Fred of Kiel, Arthur of Wausau, Hugo of Barrington, Ill., and Herman of Manitowoc. MARTHA PRUETER Martha Prueter, 91, former Town of Meeme resident, died Thuesday afternoon at Rocky Knoll Health Care Facility, where she lived for the past 3 1/2 years. The former Martha Winkel was born June 23, 1890 in the Town of Meeme, a daughter of Herman and Caroline (Redetzke) Winkel. She attended district school in the Town of Meeme and married Louis Prueter there Feb 16, 1911. The couple farmed in the Town of Meeme for their entire married life. Mr Prueter died in 1949. Mrs Prueter was a member of St. Johns UCC in the Town of Herman and the ladies aid, of Schleswig Cemetery Association. Surviors are a son Edward, of Kiel: one grandson; two great grandchildren; one sister Mrs Adam Sander of Cleveland; and one brother Theodore Winkel of Kiel. She is preceded in death by two brothers. MARY PRUETER Mrs. Herman Prueter, 81, Of Kiel, Dies On Sunday Mrs. Herman Prueter, 81, of 716 N. Sixth street, Kiel, passed away at her home Sunday at 1:30 p.m. after an illness of two weeks. She had been in failing health for the past several years. Nee Miss Mary Staeffler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Staeffler, pioneer residents of the town of Schleswig, Manitowoc county, she was born Dec. 31, 1862, in the town of Schleswig. On May 21, 1882, she was married to Herman Prueter in the town of Meeme by the late Rev. Daniel Illig. For the first three years of their married life they resided in Rockville where her husband owned and operated a blacksmith shop. In 1885 he disposed of the shop and purchased a farm in the town of Schleswig which he operated until 1919 when he turned it over to his son, Fred. They then built their present home in Kiel. Mr. Prueter died March 4, 1939. Survivors are eight children, Mrs. Edward (Dora) Henschel and Mrs. Otto (Minnie) Hildebrandt of Kiel, Mrs. Theodore (Anita) Meyer and Louis of Town Meeme, Fred on the homestead near Rockville, Arthur of Theresa, Hugo of Green Bay, and Herman, Jr., of Manitowoc; six grand- children and four great-grandchildren; six sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Lena Selk, Mrs. Minnie Kusel, Mrs. Charles Burmeister and Fred Staeffler of Dysart, Ia., Mrs. Julia Schultz of Mitchell, S. NORMA PRUETER Norma H.C. (Simonsmeier) Prueter, age 98, formerly of Kiel, died on July 30, 2009, at Pine Haven Christian Nursing Home, Sheboygan Falls. She was born May 28, 1911, in the Town of Herman, the oldest of four children of Arthur and Lena (Klopf) Simonsmeier. She attended Victory School in the Town of Rhine and was confirmed at Zoar Church in 1926. On Nov. 10, 1934, Norma married Edward Prueter at the parsonage of Community UCC, Elkhart Lake. Ed preceded her in death on July 13, 2006. They farmed on Eddie's home farm in the Town of Meeme until the big hailstorm of 1967 when they moved to Kiel. Norma was a member of St. John's UCC (Schwarzwald), and was a charter member of the Women's Guild. She enjoyed baking, crocheting, and embroidery work. She was a member of many card clubs over the years and loved to spend time with her great- grandchildren, and enjoyed teaching them to play "Sheepshead". Norma is survived by her only son, Donald (Karen) Prueter of Mountain, WI, one granddaughter, Lavonne (Nathan) Athorp of Town of Mosel, one grandson, Douglas (Colleen) Prueter of Mason, WI, and four great-grandchildren, Justin & Sara Athorp, and Dylan & Riley Prueter. Norma is further survived by her sister, Nelda Winkel, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Florence Kuhfuss & Hilma Wagner, and brothers-in-law, Theodore Winkel, Harold Kuhfuss, and Arvin Wagner. PHYLLIS E. QUAST Phyllis Enid Quast, 76, of Stillwater, Minn., and formerly of New Holstein, passed away Saturday July 13, 1996 at her home. She was born Dec. 5, 1919 in New Holstein and attended New Holstein Schools. She married Herbert W. Quast, who preceded her in death. She worked for 27 years for the First State Bank of Bayport, retiring in 1993 as a loan officer. ALVIN RABE Alvin Rabe, 82, of 104 Paine St., Kiel, died this morning shortly after admittance at Calument Memorial Hospital in Chilton. Mr. Rabe was born July 27, 1903, in the Town of Schleswig, son of August and Caroline Schnuell Rabe. He attended district school in the Town of Schleswig. He married Helen Vogel on Sept. 15, 1928. After marriage they farmed in the Town of Schleswig. Mrs. Rabe died in 1953. Mr. Rabe married Ruby Kissinger on Sept. 3, 1955, in Kiel, and they farmed in the Town of Schleswig until retirement in 1971, when they moved to Kiel. Mr. Rabe was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ in Kiel. He is survived by his wife; four sons, one daughter, 27 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; five brothers, Alfon and Arno, both of rural Kiel, Fred and Elmer, both of Kiel, and Rueben of New Holstein; and three sisters, Mrs. Florence Binversie and Mrs. Dorothy Fluhr, both of rural Kiel, and Mrs. Elda Wagner of Kiel. HARRY RABE Chilton—Calumet County coroner LeRoy Hughes has scheduled an inquest into the June 24 traffic death of Harry Rabe, 58, of Rt. 2, New Holstein, for Thursday night at the Chilton Courthouse. Rabe was killed when his car was struck by an automobile driven by (private), 18, of New Holstein on Highway 57 in the village of New Holstein. Witnesses told Calumet County authorities that Rabe was thrown from his car and then struck by a third car driven by Miss (private), 41, of Oak Creek, who fled from the scene. Since the accident, Miss Johnson was arraigned in Calumet County Court at Chilton and pleaded innocent to charges of negligent homicide, traveling too fast for conditions and leaving the scene of an accident. RAYMOND RABE Raymond Rabe, 62, of 5? Fremont St., Kiel, died unexpectiedly at his home early Sunday morning. Death was attributed to a heart attack. He was born on Dec. 13, 1902, in the town of Eaton (Manitowoc County) a son of Otto and the late Emma Rabe. He attended district school and on Nov. 25, 1933, was married to Viola Roethel of the Town of Schleswig. The couple lived a Millhome until moving to Kiel five years ago. Mr. Rabe, a Kohler Co. employe, was a member of The Redmen Lodge, Kiel, and the 24-Hour Club of the lodge. ROMA RABE Roma Kasten Rabe. 93, formerly of Kiel, died Monday evening, Feb. 1, 1999, at Calumet Homestead Rehabilitation Center, New Holstein. She is the former Roma Kasten, born Sept. 24, 1905 in the town of Schleswig, Wis., daughter of the late John and Amanda Krueger Kasten. She attended Rockville Elementary School. On May 26, 1928 she married Harry A. Rabe at Bethelhem United Church of Christ, rural Kiel. Harry and Roma farmed east of Kiel for 18 years and then operated Millhome Bar for 16 years. Roma was also employed by the Kiel Police and Fire Department as a dispatcher for eight years. Her husband preceded her in death on June 24, 1962. She was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel. All her life, Roma enjoyed gardening. She planted a living legacy for all who traveled the Cedar Swamp Road. In early summer, look for the white scented iris and remember her. Survivors include two daughters, Twin Janelle (Charles) Boedicker, Glenview, Ill., Joanne (David) Moran, Prior Lake, Minn.; sister, Freida Stolzmann, Sheboygan; brothers, Hugo Kasten, Walnut, Ill. And John Kasten, West Bend. She is further survived by 14 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by twin daughter, Jellane Henning; three sisters, Nora Kletzein, Edna Thomas and Helen Hahn and two brothers, Harvey Kasten and Melvin Kasten. VIOLA RABE Mrs. Raymond Rabe, 58, of 521 Fremont St., Kiel, died Thursday at Holy Family Hospital in Manitowoc where she had been hospitalized the past four weeks. The former Viola Roethel, born on July 15, 1910, at Milhome(sic), a daughter of the late Christian and Anna Ibeling Roethel, she attended district school and Kiel High School. On Nov. 23, 1933, she married Raymond Rabe of the Town of Eden. The couple lived at Milhome until nine years ago when they moved to Kiel. Mr. Rabe died in February, 1965. Survivors include three sisters of Milwaukee and Kiel, and a brother of the Town of Rhine. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home in Kiel with the Rev. LEO P. RACH Leo P. Rach, 63, of 736 Milwaukee St., Kiel, died at home early today. He had been ailing several years. A native of St. Anna, he was born May 13, 1905, a son of the late John and Barbara Mayer Rach. He attended Catholic school at St. Anna and married Selma Warnke of Kiel, April 21, 1930. The couple continued to live in Kiel where Mr. Rach was employed by the Kiel Wooden Ware Co. and worked as a salesman. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Parish in Kiel. (Survivors omitted for privacy) A son died in infancy. The requiem Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Ss. Peter and Paul Church, with the Rev. George Kiefer, pastor, celebrant. Mass will follow 9:30 family rites at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, with burial in Schleswig cemetery at Rockville. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Sunday. SELMA RACH Mrs. Selma Rach, 70, 55 East Chicago Street, Kiel, widow of Leo Rach, died Monday at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan, were she had been a patient one week. Selma Warnke was born December 20, 1903, in Kiel, daughter of the late Adolph and Minnie Backhaus Warnke. She attended Kiel Public Schools, and was married to Leo Rach on April 21, 1930. The couple lived all of their married lives in Kiel. Mrs. Rach was formerly employed at the Kiel Wooden Ware Company. Her husband died December 20, 1968. A member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Mrs. Rach also belonged to the Kiel Royal Neighbors of America and the GUG Germania Society. Survivors are one son of Kobler and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Reverend John F. Baumann officiating. Burial will be in Schleswig Cemetery, Rockville. ELSA W. RADES Elsa W. Rades, 93, a former Town of Eaton resident, died Saturday night at Calumet Homestead Nursing Home, New Holstein, where she had been a resident for the past five years. The former Elsa Roesch was born in Milwaukee Jan. 4, 1889, a daughter of the late Edward and Wilhelmina Schmidt Roesch. She attended Town of Eaton schools. On April 11, 1908, she married William Rades. The couple farmed the homestead farm in the Town of Schleswig for eight years, then moved to New Holstein for four years. In 1919 they purchased the Roesch homestead farm at Steinthal, which they operated until retiring in 1950. Mr. Rades died in 1968. Mrs. Rades was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ, Kiel, and its Women's Guild Society. Survivors are a daughter, Elva Petersen, of Steinthal; a granddaughter; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers. F. WILLIAM RADES (d. 1968) Frederick William Rades, 80, of R. 1, Kiel, a retired Town of Eaton farmer, died early today at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton. Born March 26, 1887 in the Town of Schleswig, he was a son of the late Fred W. and Margaret Stammer Rades. He attended the district school at Rockville. He was employed at the former J. B. Laun Co. in Kiel. On April 11, 1908 he married the former Elsa Roesch of the Town of Eaton. The couple lived on the Rades home farm for eight years and for four years in New Holstein. In 1919 they purchased the Roesch home farm at Steinthal. In 1950 the couple sold the farm to their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Petersen, when they retired. Mr. Rades was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel; former clerk of the Eaton School District No. 2 and a former board member of the Schleswig Cemetery Association. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Ervin (Elva) Petersen of R. 1, Kiel; one granddaughter and three great grandchildren. WILHELM RADES, SR. (d. 1919) Frederick Wm. Rades(sic) passed away on Saturday at the home of his son-in-law, Edgar Sievert. He was a resident of Town Schleswig and was born March 11, 1845 in Pommern, Germany and reached the age of 74 years. His wife, the former Margaret Strehmer died in 1903. He came to America and to Town Schleswig in 1867 with his parents. He is survived by 5 children and 21 grandchildren. Plymouth Post, June 7, 1919 ********* Notes from Schleswig: Frederich William Rades(sic) passed away at the home of his son-in- law, Edgar Sievert of Kiel. The deceased, who was a well known and respected settler of the Town of Schleswig, was born in Pomerania, Germany, March 11, 1845. He came to America in 1867 with his parents who settled in the Town of Schleswig in 1874. He was united in marriage to Margaret Strekner, the couple making their home in the Town of Schleswig. The union was blessed with eight children of whom three have died. His wife preceded him in death in 1903. In 1908 he disposed of his farm to his son, William and since then he lived with his children. The past four years he spent at the home of his son-in- law, Edgar Sievert in Kiel, where he was called to his final rest after suffering a stroke of paralysis last April. The last six weeks of life he was confined to his bed gradually growing weaker until the end. Mr. Rades is survived by one son, four daughters, 21 grandchildren, one brother and three sisters. HENRY RAMMINGER cemetery #84 Henry Ramminger Hit By Train in Sheboygan Henry Ramminger, 89, a former resident of Calumet county was killed when he was hit by a Chicago and Northwestern passenger train just north of Sheboygan, Tuesday morning. He was pensioner residing at the Park Lawn Home for the Aged. He was born in Calumet county, July 30, 1868. His wife, the former Katherine Dietrich passed away in May 1935. Among the survivors are five daughters and four sons in this area. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 at the funeral home with burial taking place in the Rockville cemetery. Rev. Vernon E. Jaberg will officiate. He was lying along the tracks near the railroad bridge crossing the Pigeon River north of the city. When he heard the train whistle he arose and fell across the tracks, being struck by the front end of the locomotive. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel. The Rev. Vernon E. Jaberg will officiate and burial will be in Rockville Cemetery. Mr. Ramminger was born July 3, 1868, in Calumet County where he resided until 1915?, moving then to Parnell, Wis., where he remained until 1940. For the next 15 years he lived on Rt. 1, Random Lake and in 1956 moved to the home at Sheboygan. His wife, the former Katherine Deidrich, died May of 1935. ADELA RAQUET Mrs. Carl Raquet, 91, a former Town of Schleswig resident, died Tuesday evening at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Kattreh, at 2931 Woodland Rd., Sheboygan, where she has made her home for seven years. The former Adela Voland was born May 28, 1879 at Thiensville, daughter of the late Frederick and Theodora Voland. At the age of 5 she moved to Schleswig with her parents and attended the Kiel public school. She was married to Mr. Raquet of Schleswig on April 9, 1904, and the couple resided on the Raquet home farm. He died in January 1934. Mrs. Raquet was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ, Kiel, its Women’s Guild, and a charter member of the Schleswig Cemetery Ladies’ Aid. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Walter (Norma) Gutschow, School Hill, and Mrs. Kattreh (Viola), Sheboygan; and a son, Athneil, R. 2, Kiel,; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and one brother, Phillip Voland, La Puente, Calif. She was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, the Rev. John F. ANNA RAQUET Mrs. Anna Raquet passed away at the home of her son, Charles in the town of Schleswig, on Friday after an illness of four months. Decedent, nee Anna Mahlich, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mahlich (deceased) was born at Schlesien, Germany, September 22, 1944. At the age of seven years she immigrated to America with her parents, who settled on a farm at Charlestown, Calumet County. She was married to Frank Raquet on April 10, 1864, after which the couple settled on a farm near Kiel, in the town of Schleswig. Her husband preceded her in death thirty-one years ago, after which she made her home with her son, Chas. Raquet, on the old homestead. She leaves to mourn 12 children as follows: John Raquet at Kiel, Frank Raquet at Millhome, David Raquet at Schleswig, Jacob Raquet of Schleswig, Anna, Mrs. Emil Reichert at Schleswig, George Raquet at Spring Corners, Chas. Raquet at the homestead, Emil Raquet at Spring Corners, Katherine, Mrs. Herman Roethel at Kiel. The following are step-children: Mary, Mrs. Henry Dirks of Louis Corners, Caroline, Mrs. Philip Kuhn of the town of Rhine and Barbara Raquet of Millhome. One daughter, Mrs. Ed. Baumann, died some 19 years ago. Besides her children she leaves to mourn, one sister, Mrs. Angelica Seipold of Antigo, three brothers, Emil Mahlich of Kiel, Joseph Mahlich of Schleswig, Carl Mahlich of Charlestown. Two sisters and one brother preceded her in death. There are twenty-seven grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Reformed church at Kiel. ARTHUR RAQUET (d. 1990) Arthur C. Raquet, age 88, of 114 Hillcrest Drive, Kiel, died Wednesday morning, May 16, at Calumet Medical Center, Chilton, after a short illness. He was born August 21, 1901, in the town of Schleswig, son of the late Jacob and Annie Buettner Raquet. He attended school in Rockville and Kiel. On October 9, 1926, he married Melitta Kuhn in the town of Rhine. He worked as a cheesemaker for eight years and then he farmed in the town of Rhine from 1940 to 1974 when the couple retired and moved to Kiel. His wife preceded him in death on May 17, 1989. He was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel, the Kiel Senior Citizens and served as a director on the Elkhart Lake Shipping Association and Tri-County Cooperative. He also was a delegate to Lake to Lake Co-op. Survivors include two sons, Eugene (Helen) of rural Cleveland, Vernon of Kiel, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister. Funeral services were Saturday at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel, with the Rev. Raymond C. Coombs, pastor officiating. ARTHUR A. RAQUET (d. 1991) Arthur A. Raquet, 96, of West Bend, Wis., passed away Saturday, March 16, 1991, at the Dodge County Community Health Center. He was born June 4, 1894, in the Town of Schleswig, Manitowoc County, to John and Mary Schmahl Raquet. After his marriage, to Caroline Schnuelle, in Kiel, on September 18, 1919, they settled in Kiel and then moved to Suring until 1922, when they settled in Sheboygan. He was employed at the former Dillingham Furniture Company and then at the former Kotlar Electric Company, until moving to West Bend in 1941. He owned and operated Raquet Electric Company, in West Bend, until his retirement in 1961. His wife preceded him in death on December 28, 1960. Also preceding him were his parents and one brother, Emil. Survivors include three children, Helen (Robert) Seitz, of West Bend, Wis.; Gertrude (Dom) Gaber, of Pueblo, Colo.; and Bette (William) Kaiser, of Germantown, Wis.; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 19, 1991, at 7:30 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, in West Bend. Rev. H. Richard Hoblin will officiate and burial will be in Rockville Cemetery, Kiel, at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday. Visitation at the funeral home will be from 4 p.m., Tuesday, until the time of services. ATHNIEL RAQUET Athniel (Pat) E. Raquet, 80, of 1028 Sixth St., Kiel died Sunday morning at his home. He was born on July 24, 1908 in the Town of Schleswig, son of the late Charles and Adela (Voland) Raquet. He attended Rockville School, and was a 1925 graduate of Kiel High School. On June 27, 1931, he was married to Elsie Feile at St. Peter United Church of Christ at Kiel. He farmed the family homestead in the town of Schleswig, retiring in 1977, when he moved to Kiel. In 1984 he was the Kiel Citizen of the Year. From 1949 to 1977 he was the Schleswig Town Chairman. Mr. Raquet served as a Manitowoc County Board Supervisor from 1949 to 1965. During 1934 to 1986 he was the secretary-treasurer of the Schleswig Cemetery Association. He was a director of the Calumet County Mutual Insurance Co., from 1951 to 1967. From 1942 to 1958, Mr. Raquet served as the first president of the Board of Directors of the Tri-County Co-op from 1942-1958 His wife preceded him in death on May 2, 1971. He was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ, Kiel and was a charter member of the church choir. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Ray (Glorian) Lechler of Kiel; a son, Gordon (Rosemary) of rural Kiel; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Viola Kattreh of Greenbush. For the past twenty years she has resided in Millhome with her brother Frank. Surviving her are a sister, Mrs. Herman Roethel, and five brothers, Frank of Millhome, John of Kiel, David of the town of Schleswig, George of Sheboygan and Emil of Kohler. Four sisters and two brothers preceded her in death. They were: Mrs. Philip Kuhn, Mrs. Henry Dirks, Mrs. Edward Baumann, Mrs. Emil Reichart, and Carl and Jacob Raquet. CARL RAQUET Charles C. Raquet of Kiel is Summoned After Illness Kiel – Charles C. Raquet, 55, well-known resident of this city and vicinity and chairman of the Manitowoc county board until the past year, died at 3:55 p.m. Wednesday at the Raquet homestead in Town Schleswig where he lived all his life. Mr. Raquet had been ill for several months. He was born May 22, 1878, on the Raquet homestead, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Raquet. His marriage to Adela Voland of the Town of Schleswig took place April 9, 1904. Besides his wife, Mr. Raquet is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Walter Guetschow of School Hill and Mrs. Leonard Kattreh of Kiel and a son, Athniel, at home; three grandchildren, five brothers, John of Kiel, David of Town Schleswig, Frank of Millhome, George of Sheboygan Falls, and Emil of Kohler, and two sisters, Mrs. Herman Roethel of Kiel, and Barbara Raquet of Millhome. Four sisters and a brother preceded him in death. Mr. Raquet was active in civic, agricultural and church affairs in Kiel and Manitowoc county. He was a supervisor of Manitowoc county from 1911 to 1914 and he served as chairman of the Manitowoc county board from 1914 to 1922 and again from 1930-33. He was a member of the Manitowoc agricultural committee for the past three years and was one of the first organizers of a dairy herd improvement association in the vicinity of Kiel. He was a charter member of the Kiel Agricultural and Breeders association and a member of the local union of the American Equity society, serving as president at the time it was organized. He was director of the Citizens State Bank of Kiel for the past eighteen years. A faithful member of St. Peter Reformed church, he served the congregation as deacon for the past ten years and was an active member of its Brotherhood of Andrew and Philip. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at the Raquet homestead near Kiel and at 2 o’clock at St. Peter’s Reformed church. The Rev. E. L. CAROLINE SCHNUELLE RAQUET Funeral services were held Saturday for Mrs. Arthur Raquet, 67, at West Bend. She is a sister-in-law of Emil Raquet of this city. She died at a West Bend hospital after being a patient there about a week. She was hospitalized after breaking her hip and wrist in a fall. The funeral service was conducted at the Immanuel United church of Christ and burial was in the Rockville cemetery. Pallbearers were William Balz, Edgar Henning, Leonard Kattreh, Calvin Petzold, Anthneil and Arthur Raquet. She was born in the town of Schleswig March 23, 1893. She married Arthur Raquet September 18, 1919. After marriage the couple lived in Kiel until 1922 and then moved to Sheboygan, living there until 1941 when they moved to West Bend. Surviving are her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Robert Seitz, West Bend, Mrs. D. A. DAVID RAQUET David Raquet, 85, of Rt. 1 Kiel, retired Schleswig farmer, died Wednesday at the farm home. Services were held at the Bethel Evangelical Reformed Church of Schleswig. Burial was in Rockville Cemetery. Mr. Raquet was born in Schleswig in 1866 and in 1895 married Miss Emma Steinberg. They lived in Kiel six years and 52 years ago located on the Schleswig farm now operated by his son-in-law and daughter. The couple observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1945. ELSIE RAQUET Mrs. Raquet, the former Elsie Feile, was born April 23, 1911 in Green Bay, a daughter of the late Henry and Anna Redmen Feile. She came to Kiel as a young girl and graduated from Kiel High School in 1930. On June 27, 1931 she was married to Mr. Raquet at St. Peter UCC, Kiel. The couple operated the Raquet home farm their entire married lives. She was a member of St. Peter UCC, its Woman’s Guild and Sewing Circle and was a charter member of the Mendelssohn Choir of the church. EMMA RAQUET Mrs. Emma Raquet, 88, of 818 6th St., Kiel, died at St. Nicholas Hospital Monday night. She had been a patient at the hospital the past three months. Born in the Town of Herman on Oct. 3, 1874, she was the daughter of the late William and Augusta Steinberg. She moved with her family to the Town of Schleswig when a young girl, and on Oct. 3, 1895 she was married to David Raquet in Schleswig. After their marriage the couple lived in Kiel for six years, then moved to the Town of Schleswig where they operated a farm for 52 years. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1945. Mr. Raquet died in 1952, and Mrs. Raquet moved to the home of her daughter in 1959. Mrs. Raquet was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Schleswig and the Ladies Aid Society of the church. ERVIN J. RAQUET Ervin J. Raquet, 77, of 732 Sixth Street, Kiel, died September 14, at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient the past two weeks. He was born September 27, 1900 in the town of Schleswig, the son of David and Emma Steinberg Raquet. He attended district school. On February 16, 1932 he married Lydia Eick in the parsonage of the First Lutheran Church in Waukegan, Illinois. The couple lived in Sheboygan for a year before moving to Stoughton where Mr. Raquet was employed as a carpenter. In 1972 the couple moved to Kiel. Mrs. Raquet died on July 12, 1977. Only immediate survivor is a niece, Mrs. Carl Kuenne of Sheboygan. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel. The Reverend Ward B. FRANK RAQUET Former Millhome Sawmill Operator Dies on Tuesday Kiel - (Special) – Frank Raquet, 75, former sawmill operator at Millhome for 35 years, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Herman Roethel, 513 Calumet drive, Kiel, at 11:20 p.m. Tuesday following an illness of five years. He was born June 24, 1865, on a farm in the town of Schleswig, son of Frank and Anna Mahlich Raquet. He learned the carpentry trade before he bought the sawmill at Millhome. Five years ago when he became ill he sold the mill and moved to Kiel. Survivors are four brothers, John, of Kiel, David, town of Schleswig, Emil, of Kohler, and George, of Sheboygan; and one sister, Mrs. Herman Roethel. Five sisters and two brothers preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, with the Rev. E. L. The former Lorraine Riesterer was born Dec. 29, 1936, in the town of Liberty, a daughter of Helen Steffen and the late William Riesterer. MELITTA RAQUET Melitta Raquet, age 85, of 114 Hillcrest Drive, Kiel, died Wednesday morning, May 17, at Calumet Medical Center, Chilton, after being a patient for two days. She was the former Melitta Kuhn born may 13, 1904, in the town of Rhine, daughter of John and Ida Kattreh Kuhn. She attended the former Harrison School in the town of Rhine. On October 9, 1926, she married Arthur C. Raquet in the town of Rhine. The couple farmed in the town of Rhine from 1940 to 1974 when they retired and moved to Kiel. The couple celebrated their 50th and 60th wedding anniversaries. She was a life long member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel; the Kiel Senior Citizens, and the Royal Neighbors of America. Survivors include her husband, Arthur; two sons, Eugene (Helen) of rural Cleveland, and Vernon of Kiel; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; four sisters, Valeska (C.H.) Kleingfedlt of Fond du Lac; Lucinda Schneider of rural Plymouth, Rhoda Eckardt, rural Cleveland; and Verna Lindow of Kohler. She was preceded in death by one brother, Orville. NORMAN RAUTMANN Norman J. Rautmann, 73, of 10629 Rautmann Road, Kiel, died early Saturday morning, June 3, 1995 at Willowdale Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, New Holstein, where he had resided the past two weeks. He was born Aug. 6, 1921 in the town on Meeme, the son of the late Otto and Alvina Dickman Rautmann. On May 6, 1950, he married Arlene Trempe at Bethel U.C.C. in the Town of Herman. The couple farmed in the Town of Schleswig and he was also employed at Kohler Co. from 1949 to his retirement in 1983. He also served on the Schleswig Town Board as treasurer for 20 years. Norman was also a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II in Hawaii. He was a member of Bethlehem U.C.C. in the Town of Schleswig. Survivors include his wife Arlene: five children, Randall of Rural Kiel, Steven (Jane) Rautmann of Kiel, Cynthia (Craig) Johnson of Phoenix, Ariz. and Tom J. Rautmann of rural Kiel; eight grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Marzine Rautmann of Ada and Lucille Kielsmeier of Sheboygan. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. GILBERT REHM Gilbert F. Rehm, 92, of 1102 Seventh St., Kiel, died unexpectedly, Dec. 28, 2000 at his home. He was born March 4, 1908 in the town of new Holstein, son of the late John and Katherine Trost Rehm. He attended the former Meade Grade School in the town of New Holstein. On September 2, 1993, Gilbert married Olive Jugenheimer in New Holstein. She preceded him in death on Feb. 23, 1981. The couple operated a cheese factory at Seven Corners for three years, before moving to Kiel. Gilbert worked for Hart-Carter in New Holstein until 1949, when he purchased Citydrage in Kiel, until the late 60’s, when he went to work at Tecumseh Products, New Holstein, retiring in 1973. Gilbert was a member of St. Peter’s UCC, Kiel; Kiel Senior Citizens, drove for Meals on Wheels, is a retired member of the Kiel Fish & Game, Kiel, Redmen and was an avid card player, belonging to three card clubs. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards. Survivors include one son, John Rehm, Kiel; four sisters, Clara Kasten, a resident of Calumet Homestead Rehab Center, Anna Quade, Madison, Marielle Feile, Kiel and Rola (Gilbert) Ludwig, New Holstein. OLIVE REHM Mrs. Gilbert Rehm, 72, of 629 St. Paul St., Kiel, died Monday morning at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient for the past week. She had been in ill health for several months. The former Olive Jugenheimer was born in Kiel on Aug. 31, 1908, daughter of John and Katherine Mattes Jugenheimer. She was a graduate of Kiel High School. On Sept. 2, 1933, she married Gilbert Rehm at New Holstein. They operated a cheese factory at Seven Corner for three years before moving to Kiel. Mrs. Rehm was employed at Christel’s Department Store in that city for 25 years. MARIA REICHARDT Mrs. Mary Reichardt, 71, R. 1, Kiel (Wilke's Lake), died at 12:15 a.m. today at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She had been hospitalized for two weeks. The former Mary Buchholz, she was born Dec. 10, 1890, in the Town of Schleswig, a daughter of the late Joseph and Albertina Rades Buchholz, and received her education in Kiel Public schools. She was married to Norbert Reichardt of the Town of Schleswig on Dec. 27, 1913, at Zion Lutheran Church at Louis Corners. The couple operated a farm in the Town of Schleswig. Her husband died in July, 1950. For the past 12 years she had been living at Wilke's Lake. Survivors are one son, Orville of Wilke's Lake; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Gast of Milwaukee, Mrs. John Kuhn of LaHabra, Calif., and two brothers, William Buchholz of Kiel, Herman of rural Kiel. NORBERT REICHARDT Norbert E. Reichardt, 60, a town of Schleswig farmer, died early today at Sheboygan Memorial hospital after a prolonged illness. Born Aug. 15, 1890, in the town of Schleswig, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Reichardt, Sr., he attended the Rockville school. On Dec. 27, 1913, he was married to Marie Buchholz of the town of Schleswig. Since their marriage, the couple made their home on a farm in the township. Mr. Reichardt was a member of the Bethlehem Evangelical Reformed church. Survivors are his wife; one son, Orville, at home, and his mother, Mrs. Helena Reichardt, and a brother, George, all of the town of Schleswig. EMMA REICHERT Mrs. Herman Reichart (sic), 58, died at her home in Milhome, town of Schleswig, Wednesday evening after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at two o’clock Saturday afternoon from the Meiselwitz funeral home at Kiel, the Rev. E. L. Worthman of the St. Peter’s Evangelical and Reformed church of Kiel officiating. Interment will be in the Rockville cemetery. Born Emma Stoll on Jan. 25, 1885 at Schleswig, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stoll, she was married to Herman Reichart of the town of Rhine on Nov. 18, 1905. The couple resided at Kiel for a short time, and for the past 27 years lived on the farm at Milhome. HERMAN REICHERT Herman Reichert Dies Here Saturday Evening Herman Reichert, 72, died at the home of his son, Clarence, Saturday evening. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church, with the Rev. E. L. Worthman in charge. Burial was made in the Rockville cemetery. He was born December 6, 1880, in the town of Rhine, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Reichert. November 18, 1905 he was married to Miss Emma Stoll of the town of Schleswig. They operated a farm in the town of Schleswig for many years. She passed away in July, 1943 and for the past eight years he had made his home in Kiel. Survivors include one son, Clarence; three grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. George Raquet, Sheboygan, and a brother, Frederick of Kiel. ********* Herman Reichert, 72, of 1024 Sixth St., Kiel, died Saturday afternoon. JACOB REICHERT Called By Death Death claimed Jacob Reichert, a well-known resident of the town of Schleswig and Kiel, on Friday afternoon, at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John Balz in the town of Schleswig. He reached the ripe old age of 80 years, 3 months and 12 days. Deceased was born in Nierstein, Germany, Sept. 27, 1844, and came to America in 1853(8?), as a boy of 12 years with his parents, who settled in the town of Rhine, Sheboygan county. He was united in marriage in 1869 to Katherine Mattes, and the couple made their home on a farm in the town of Schleswig, where they resided until 1902, when they sold the farm and moved to Kiel. Mrs. Reichert passed away in 1906. Since 1922 Mr. Reichert made his home with Mr. and Mrs. John Balz in the town of Schleswig. He always enjoyed good health until shortly before his death. He possessed a jovial nature, was an obliging neighbor and held in high esteem by his many friends, who enjoyed his companionship. The following children survive him: Mrs. John Balz of Schleswig, William of Kiel, Jacob near Rockville and Philip in New Holstein; also six grandchildren survive him. Two sons preceded their father in death. The funeral took place on Monday afternoon, after services in the Reformed church, Rev. W. Rech officiating. Interment in the Rockville cemetery.


JACOB P. REICHERT Jacob P. Reichert, 79, died at his home in Kiel Tuesday morning. Born March 7, 1875, in the town of Schleswig, the son of Jacob and Catherine Mattes Reichert, he attended the distric school at Rockville. He was married to Miss Dorothea Schnuell of the town of Eaton October 24, 1899, and they farmed in the town of Schleswig until their retirement in 1936 when they moved to Kiel. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1949. Mr Reichert was a member of the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church. Only survivor is his wife. A sister and four brothers preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at two o'clock at the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church, with the Rev. E. L. Worthman officiating, and interment will be made in the Rockville cemetery. Friends may call at the Meiselwitz Funeral home from 2 p.m. Thursday until 11 a.m. Friday and at the church from 11:30 a.m. Friday until the time of the services.


KATHARINA REICHERT Obituary 1906 - Katharina (Mattes) Reichert On Monday morning at 2:00 AM Mrs. Katharina (Mattes) Reichert died in her home from heart disease. She was the wife of Mr. Jacob Reichert. She was born in NiederSaalheim, Germany on October 18, 1843, and immigrated to America with her father in 1854 and settled in the Town of Rhine. In the year 1869 she married Mr. Reichert, and six children were born to the couple, one of which died. Mrs. Reichert reached an age of 62 years, 6 months and 12 days. She leaves behind her husband and five children: Louise Balz in Schleswig, Wilhelm in Kiel, Jacob in Schleswig, Philipp in New Holstein, and Theodore in Collins. The funeral is today (Thursday) afternoon at 1:30 from the funeral home to the cemetery in Rockville. Pastor Rech will officiate. META L. REICHERT Mrs. Meta Mattes, 83, of 2012 Monroe St., New Holstein, widow of Arthur W., died early Sunday at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton, following a lingering illness. A resident of New Holstein the past 10 years, she was born at Brillion Sept. 29, 1889, daughter of the late Carl and Minnie Fischer Janke. She attended local schools. In June 1918, she was married to Mr. Mattes in Green Bay. He died in 1962. She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, New Holstein. Survivors are a step-son, A. A. Mattes of Milwaukee; two brothers, Arthur C. Janke of Fort Wayne, Ind. and Alvin G. of Waupaca, and a sister, Mrs. Emily Hermance of Bristol, Ind. THEODORE L. REICHERT Obituary - Theodore Reichert Last week Wednesday, Mr. Theodore Reichert died in his home in Collins at the age of 33 years. He was the son of Mr. Jacob Reichert. The cause of death was kidney disease, which he had suffered with for a long time. The deceased was born and raised in the Town of Schleswig and later he moved to Kiel with his parents and worked as a clerk in the Hein’s Store. For approximately eight years, with good results, he has managed a store in Collins. He leaves behind his wife, who was born Meta Hanke from Brillion whom he married in 1910, his father, one sister and three brothers. The burial was Saturday afternoon in Collins. HENRIETTE REIMERS (From the correspondent in Kiel, 01 May) The wife of Hans Reimers shot herself with a pistol on 25 Apr. and died on Sat. She was the sister of Wilhelm Boss who hanged himself about 2 weeks ago. Both families are old settlers of Schleswig and reside about 5 miles from Kiel. Der Nord Westen, 03 May 1894 ******** MRS. HANS REIMER of Schleswig committed suicide on Tuesday of last week by shooting herself with a revolver. The deed was done in the woods near the farm on which she lived. The first shot did not inflict a fatal wound as the bullet went down and came out in the thigh. She evidently knew this and put a second bullet in her body. She was not found until the next day. She was about 50 years of age and had been sickly for some time. No one knows where she procured the revolver, and it is thought she purchased it in Milwaukee last winter when she visited that city. CALVIN F. REINEKING Calvin F. Reineking, 74, educator and businessman, died unexpectedly of a cerebra1 hemorrhage Wednesday night at his home, 816 Fourth St., Kiel. Funera1 services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, of which he was a charter member, Rev. Allen L. Bowe officiating. Burial will be in the Rockville Cemetery. Mr. Reineking, who was born Feb. 29, 1880, in the Town of Herman, Sheboygan County, attended Mission House College at Plymouth and was graduated from Milwaukee Normal School. He taught school for a number of years in the Kiel area. He was associated with Stoelting Bros. Co. of Kiel for 13 years as a bookkeeper and in addition operated a clothing store in that city. He was employed by the Puetz Motor Co. of Kiel and also was agent for an automobile insurance firm. Mr. Reineking was superintendent of Church School of the First Presbyterian Church of Kiel for 18 years and clerk of the local school district for 33 years. In 1905 he married the former Hulda Stark of Kiel. She survives along with three daughters, Miss Luella Reineking of Kiel, Mrs. Ruth Ottensam of Plattevitle, Wis., and Mrs. Marion Capelle of Wichita, Kan.; three sisters, Mrs. Elsa DeVries of Sibley, Iowa, Mrs. Mary Hyenga of Stout, Iowa, and Mrs. Esther VorDerMark of New Bremen, Ohio; a brother, Fred Reineking on the homestead farm in the Town of Herman; and six grandchildren. A daughter, three brothers and a sister preceded him in death. Friends may call at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, from 3 p.m. Friday to 11 am. HULDA W. REINEKING Funeral Services Held Tuesday for Mrs. Reinecking Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the First Presbyterian church for Mrs. Hulda Reinecking. Rev. Allen L. Bowe officiated. Burial was made in the Rockville cemetery. Mrs. Reinecking died Saturday at the Enders Nursing Home in Glenbeulah where she had been a patient for the past month. Born near Kiel, Sept. 1, 1886, she was the former Hulda Stark, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stark. Following marriage to Calvin Reinecking, Aug. 18, 1906, the couple resided in Kiel, where her husband formerly operated a clothing store and later represented an insurance firm in the area prior to his death in September, 1954. Mrs. Reinecking, who was active in church work, was a charter member of First Presbyterian Church in Kiel, the Dorcas Society of the church, Kiel Frauenverein and Rockville Cemetery Ladies Aid Society. Surviving are three daughters, Miss Loella, Kiel; Mrs. C. W. Ottensman (Ruth), Platteville; and Mrs. Henry Capelle (Marion), Midland, Texas; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Abe DeMunck, Milwaukee. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. L. LOELLA S. REINEKING Miss Loella Reineking, 72, of 816 Fourth St., Kiel, was pronounced dead on arrival Friday at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital after suffering an apparent heart attack. She was born May 16, 1908, in Kiel, daughter of Calvin and Hulda Stark Reineking. She graduated from Kiel High School. Miss Reineking was a member of First Presbyterian church, Kiel, the Presbyterian Women's Club and Kiel Historical Society. Survivors are a sister, Mrs. Marion Capelle of Houston, Texas, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church. CARL RESEBURG Death Claims C. Reseburg, at Milwaukee Funeral to Be Held Here This Thursday Afternoon Following a lingering illness of two years, Charles Reseburg, former well-known resident of Kiel, died at his home at 1057- 2nd street, Milwaukee, March 31 at 4 o’clock. During the past year his illness caused him great suffering, although he bore it uncomplainingly. The deceased was born March 15, 1854 in Rode Muehl, Pommern, Germany. At the age of 27 he came to this country, settling in Kiel, where he bought a home on Fourth street. He was married a few years later to Mrs. Louisa Broese, nee Sommer, who preceded him in death 14 years ago. One son, Herman, was born to this union. Some time after their marriage he built the home now occupied by Adolph Hingiss; where he lived until fifteen years ago, when he sold his home and moved to Menasha. For the past eleven years he had made Milwaukee his home, where his son Herman and family lived with him. A step-son, Adolph Broese, lives in Los Angeles. Other surviving relatives are a brother, Herman, of Sheboygan, and a sister, Mrs. Gustave Kowal of Menasha. Funeral services are being held this Thursday at 2 p. m. at the Reformed church here, the Rev. Otto Saewert performing the last rites. Burial will be in the Rockville cemetery, where the widow the deceased lies.


CHARLOTTE RESEBURG Charlotte M. Reseburg, age 87, of 920 7th St., Kiel, joined her daughter Margaret in Heaven on Margaret's birthday, March 7, 2015. She was born January 1, 1928 in Manitowoc County, daughter of the late Arthur and Amelia (Lettler) Becker. She attended Kiel schools and was a 1945 graduate of Kiel High School. On September 23, 1950 she was united in marriage to Melvin C. Reseburg at First Presbyterian Church, Kiel. She and Melvin enjoyed fishing and gardening together. Melvin preceded her in death on May 1, 2000. During her high school years she worked at the Kiel Theater selling candy, popcorn and working as an usher. Charlotte later worked at Hanson Glove for several years, Kiel Woodenware and for 29 years was a dedicated employee of AA Laun Furniture Factory until her retirement. Survivors include her two grandsons, Jason Grube (fiance, Beth) and his son, Nick; Josh (Amy) Grube and their sons, Dylan and Austin. Charlotte is also survived by a sister, Bernette (Elroy) Loose and three brothers, Arthur Becker Jr., Paul (Pat) Becker and David (Phyllis) Becker; step great grandchildren, Patrick and Neela. LOUISA RESEBURG Thursday evening of last week, Mrs. Carl Reseburg, nee Soemmer, died at the hospital in Neenah, where she was being taken care of for a lingering illness due to stomach cancer. The deceased who is well know to earlier residents of Kiel, was born on May 8, 1855 in Sheboygan, and as a small child came with her parents to Town Schleswig. There she married Mr. Alvin Brose in 1876. Later the couple settled in Kiel, but after a few years they moved to La Crosse where her husband died, in in 1882 and also two of her three children. She returned to Kiel with her surviving son and in 1883 she married a second time, to Mr. Carl Reseburg. The marriage was blessed with one son. For 13 years the couple lived in Menasha and this year returned to Kiel. She leaves behind, her husband and two sons. The coffin was brought here on Monday afternoon and left from the Commercial Hotel for the Rockville Cemetery for burial. Pastor Rech officiated. MARTHA RESEBURG Mrs. Waldemar H. Reseburg, 76, of 904 4th St., Kiel, died Wednesday afternoon at St. Nicholas Hospital following a lingering illness. The former Martha Voigt was born June 22, 1887, in the town of Schleswig, a daughter of the late John and Amelia Voigt. She attended the Woodland Park District School and was married Nov. 14, 1911, to Mr. Reseburg of the town of Schleswig. The couple farmed in the township until 1942 when they moved to Kiel. They observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1961. She was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ. Surviving are her husband; four sons, Arno of Sheboygan, Melvin and Ervin, both of Kiel, and Gilbert of Millersville; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Alex Holzer, Kiel; and two brothers, Oscar and Walter Voigt, both of Kiel. MELVIN C. RESEBURG Melvin C. Reseburg, 84, of 915 6th St., Kiel, died Monday afternoon, May 1, 2000. He was born April 5, 1916 in the town of Schleswig, a son of the late Waldemar and Martha Voight Reseburg. He also attended school there. Melvin was a member of the U.S. Army 887 Airborne Engineers/82nd Airborne Division, serving in North Africa, Anzio and Normandy. He received the European Theater citation with five bronze service stars and the Purple Heart. He was also listed as missing in action. On Sept 23, 1950 he married Charlotte Becker at First Presbyterian church in Kiel. In his earlier years, he was a truck driver for Ehnert Gravel Pit. Prior to his retirement he worked for 30 years at A.A. Laun Furniture Co. in Kiel. He was a member of the Disabled America Veterans and a lifelong member of the Kiel Fish and Game Club. Melvin enjoyed the outdoors where he loved hunting, fishing and gardening. Survivors include his wife, Charlotte; his daughter, Margaret (Michael) Grube of Kiel; two grandsons, Jason and Joshua Grube of Kiel; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Arno, Gilbert and Ervin. Funeral services will be held at the Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home in Kiel with the Rev. Raymond C. Coombs officiating. THERESA RESEBURG Mrs. Theresa Reseburg, 72, of 3212 N. 23rd St., Milwaukee, died Saturday evening at Milwaukee County Hospital. The former Theresa Reinhold was born December 10, 1886, at Reedsville, daughter of the late William and Mary Sievers Reinhold. The couple located at Menasha before moving to Milwaukee. Her husband and a brother preceded her in death. WALDEMAR RESEBURG Waldemar H. Reseburg, 85, a resident of Kiel, died Saturday at Manitowoc County Hospital. He was born Aug. 13, 1887, in Sheboygan, son of the late Herman and Bertha Lindemann Reseburg. On Nov. 14, 1911, he married Martha Voigt in the town of Schleswig. They farmed in Schleswig until 1942 when they moved to Kiel. He was employed at the Freis feed mill and also at the Edwin Ruh Mason Contracting firm. His wife died May 16, 1964. Surviving are four sons, Arno of Sheboygan, Melvin and Ervin, both of Kiel, and Gilbert of Howards Grove; nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Hilda Gray of Sheboygan. ELSIE M. RODERWEISS Elsie M. Roderweiss, 63, of 1901 Madison Street, Manitowoc, a former Kiel resident, died Sunday afternoon, October 21, at the Manitowoc Health Care Center. She was born May 7, 1927 in Germany, daughter of the late Fred and Adele Steinbach Roderweiss. She was a graduate of Kiel High School. She was employed at Lake to Lake in Kiel and Sheboygan for many years. She also worked at Great Lakes Tool and Die, the Calumet Homestead in New Holstein from 1972 to 1977, operated the former Elsie's Fashion Center in Kiel. She moved to Manitowoc in 1983. FRED ROEHRDANZ Fred Roehrdanz, 78, Passes Away on Thursday Kiel – Fred Roehrdanz, age 78, former resident of Manitowoc county, passed away following an illness, on Thursday afternoon at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Rothmann of Calumet Habor. He was born in Germany and came to America at the age of two with his parents. He spent his early boyhood in Mercer county, Pennsylvania and at the age of 19 came to Wisconsin. They then settled on a farm in Charlestown. On March 26, 1893, he was married to Mary Pingel. The couple made their home on a farm in Town Schleswig, near Rockville, until 1934 when they sold the farm and made their home with Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Rothmann at Calumet Harbor. He is survived by his wife, Mary, and five daughters, they are: Mrs. Herman (Hilma) Pagel, Mrs. Meta Schaefer of Kiel, Mrs. Glenn (Edna) Rothmann and Mrs. Garland (Alma) Burg of Calumet Harbor, and Mrs. Eldred (Clara) Voland, of North Tonowanda, New York. Thirteen grandchildren survive but two brothers and one sister preceded him in death. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on March 26 of this year. MARY ROEHRDANZ Mrs. Mary Roehrdanz, 85, a resident of the town of Calumet, Fond du Lac county, passed away Sunday evening at St. Agnes Hospital, Fond du lac, following a short illness. Born March 26, 1868, in the town of Schleswig, Manitowoc county, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Pingel, she attended school there and on March 26, 1893, was married to Fred Roehrdanz. Following their marriage they operated a farm in the town of Schleswig until their retirement in 1934 when they moved to the town of Calumet. Her husband passed away in 1943, and since that time she made her home with her daughters, and for the past year with a daughter, Mrs. Alma Burg of the town of Calumet. Survivors are five daughters, Mrs. Herman (Hilma) Pagel of the town of Schleswig, Mrs. Meta Schaefer of Kiel, Mrs. Edna Rothman of Fond du lac, Mrs. Alma Burg of the town of Calumet and Mrs. Joseph (Clara) Yehle of Elkhart Lake; 12 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. ARNO M. ROETHEL Arno M. Roethel, 88, formerly of rural Elkhart Lake, died Tuesday afternoon, April 18, at Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center, where he was a patient for four days. He had been a resident at Willowdale Nursing Home for 1 1/2 years. He was born March 30, 1901, in the town of Meeme, son of the late Christian and Anna Ibeling Roethel. He attended school at Millhome. On December 14, 1934 he married Ella Jung in Waukegan, Illinois. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1984. For 25 years he built silos for the late Fred Ehnert, then worked at Tecumseh Products in New Holstein for a number of years, and then worked at the Kiel Foundry until his retirement. Survivors include his wife Ella, a resident of Willowdale Nursing Home, New Holstein; one daughter, Delores (Kurt) Mueller; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and one sister Minnie George of Milwaukee. ARVIN W. ROETHEL Arvin W. Roethel, 68, of R. 2 Kiel, died Friday at his trailer home at Millhome after being stricken with a heart attack. He was born Aug. 29, 1897 in the Town of Meeme, a son of the late Christian and Anna Ebeling Roethel . The family later moved to the Town of Schleswig where he attended district schools. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Roethel was employed by August Ehnert & Sons, Kiel, and by Eickhoss Feed Mill, Millhome, before his retirement in 1962. ELLA B. ROETHEL Ella B. Roethel, 90, formerly of Rt. 1 Elkhart Lake, died Friday evening, Juyl (sic) 20, 1990 at Willowdale Nursing Home, New Holstein, where she has been a resident for the past two and a half years. The former Ella Jung was born December 28, 1899 in the town of Rhine, daughter of the late Fred and Paulina (Weitzel) Jung. She attended school at the former Harrison School in the town of Rhine. On December 14, 1934 she married Arno Roethel in Waukegan, Ill. Arno died on April 18, 1989. Survivors include, one daughter, Mrs. Delores (Kurt) Mueller, of rural Kiel; three grandchildren, Linda Quast, Sharon Hudson, and Larry Mueller; four great-grandchildren, Kelly and Tyler Quast and Ryan and Matthew Mueller; one sister, Mrs. Alice (Eugene) Breckheimer, of rural Kiel. HELEN L. ROSE Mrs. Helen Rose, 75, of 716 N. 13th St., died Monday night at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital following a short illness. Born in Manitowoc County on Sept. 6, 1890, she was a daughter of the late Dietrich and Katherine Kattre, and was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church at Louis Corners. On March 24, 1917, she was married to Melvin Rose at Plymouth. The couple settled in New Holstein where Mr. Rose was in charge of the brass and aluminum foundry at the John Launsen Manufacturing Co. The family moved to Sheboygan in 1943. Mr. Rose died in 1946. Mrs. Rose was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. MELVIN M. ROSE Melvin Rose, aged 66, of 1422 Huron Ave., passed away at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the St. Nicholas Hospital following a lingering illness. Born in Milwaukee on May 8, 1890, he was the son of the late Julius and Emilie Rose. He came to Plymouth in 1912 and was employed at the Plymouth Foundry and Machine Co. On March 24, 1917, he was united in marriage to Helen Kattre in Plymouth. The couple moved to New Holstein where Mr. Rose was in charge of the brass foundry for the John Lauson Mfg Co. for a period of eight years. In 1925 the family returned to Plymouth where he was employed as foreman at the Plymouth Foundry. From 1943 until June, 1955, the date of his retirement, Mr. Rose was an employee of the Austin Gray Iron Foundry in this city. Surviving him are his wife, two sons, Harvey and Harold, of Sheboygan; one grandson, William; three brothers, Julius, Victor and Walter, of Milwaukee. AUDREY FAY ROSS Audrey Faye Ross of 8637 Highway 11 W., Janesville, died at her home on Friday, Dec. 6, 2002. Audrey was born on Jan. 24, 1936, a daughter of the late Elmer and Meta (Schilling) Spettel. She attended local schools and was a 1954 graduate of Sheboygan Central High School. On June 14, 1954, she married Wesley A. Ross in Sheboygan. Wesley preceded her in death on Aug. 18, 1999. She was a homemaker and most recently enjoyed volunteering at the soup kitchen in Janesville. WESLEY A. ROSS Wesley A. Ross, age 66, of 8637 Hwy. 11 West, Janesville, passed away at his home on Wednesday, August 18, 1999. He was born February 2, 1933 in Sheboygan, a son of the late Leslie J. and Edna (Kath) Ross. He attended local elementary schools and was a 1951 graduate of Sheboygan Central High School. After his graduation he joined the Al G. Kelley- Miller Bros. Circus in the advance Troupe. On June 14, 1954, he and Audrey Spettel were united in marriage in Sheboygan. The couple moved to Janesville in 1957, where Wes was employed as an assembler at General Motors Assembly Division for over 26 years until his retirement. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 95. Wes enjoyed playing chess and was an avid musician, but especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Wes is survived by his wife, Audrey; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Charles A. and Mary Ross of Las Cruces, N.M. and Leslie D. Ross of Sharon, four grandchildren, Claressa A., Jennifer A., Sophia A. and James A. MARTIN A. RUCKWEED Martin Ruckweed, 85, a former resident of Crystal Lake, died at Sheboygan County Hospital Friday evening. He had been a patient there for one and one-half months. He was born Dec. 2, 1886 in Milwaukee, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Ruckweed. Mr. Ruckweed was a graduate of Oshkosh Normal School and taught high school before entering the army during World War I and served overseas. After the war, he farmed in the Town of Plymouth until retiring several years ago. Survivors are a brother, Fred and a sister, Mrs. Clara Moll, both of Milwaukee. Two brothers preceded him in death. ADAM RUH Adam Ruh, a well known resident of the town of Schleswig, was called by death on Saturday morning at 9 o’clock, his unexpected demise causing much sorrow to the member of his immediate family and a large circle of friends. Decedent was born in the state of New York, February 2, 1858; he came to the town of Schleswig with his parents in his childhood, and has resided there ever since. In 1882 Mr. Ruh was married to Julia Dedering, who survives him. He was employed as a mason up to 1890 when he bought a farm, where he made his home up to the time of his death. The marriage was blessed with 14 children, of whom one child died 16 years ago. Mr. Ruh was a good husband and father, very industrious and of a jovial disposition up to 16 years ago when he became a victim of melancholia, from which he gradually recovered. Three weeks ago he had another attack which ended in his unexpected death on Saturday morning. Deceased is survived by his sorrowing widow, seven sons, and six daughters, three brothers, one sister, twenty-two grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. The children are as follows; John of Louis Corners, Henry of Meeme, Lena, Hugo and Hilda of Schleswig, Edwin of Rockville, Ida and Roland of Milwaukee, Alma of Meggers, Arthur of Kiel and Violet and Lillie at home. EDWIN RUH Edwin W. Ruh, 97, formerly of Cedar lake and Rockville, died Sunday night at Willowdale Nursing Home, New Holstein, where he had lived for 1 1/2 years. He was born in the town of Eaton, Manitowoc County, the son of the late Adam and Julia Dedering Ruh. He attended Woodland Park School in the town of Schleswig. He was married to Martha Schultz on April 6, 1912, in Louis Corners. She died in January 1953. Mr. Ruh was a self-employed mason contractor his entire life. He was a lifelong member of St. Peter United Church of Christ, Kiel and a charter member of the Kiel Redmen and Kiel Fish and Game Club. He was also a member of Manitowoc Fish and Game Protective Association. Survivors include two sons, Raymond and Melvin, both of Kiel; six grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Viola Glasow of Stockbridge. EVA RUH HALLEEN Eva Ida (Ruh) Halleen, 94, of 3800 Town Center Blvd., Orlando, Fla., died May 14, 2009, at Spring Hills of Hunters Creek Facility after overcoming several illnesses. She was the former Eva Pohl born March 11, 1915, in Sheboygan Falls, daughter of the late Edwin and Unetah Bosma Pohl. Eva attended elementary school in Sheboygan County, graduating on May 31, 1929, and continuing her education at normal school for a short period of time. During this period, she provided housework and child care for several families in the area. On Sept. 8, 1934, Eva married Fred Ruh in Sheboygan Falls. The couple moved to Kiel in 1949. Eva did domestic work for a number of years and in 1963 acquired the job as head cook in the Kiel school system, retiring in 1981 after 18 years of service. Her husband, Fred, preceded her in death on Aug. 16, 1982. On March 2, 1996, Eva married William Halleen in Kiel and moved to Sheboygan. After realizing they needed more help, both William and Eva moved to the Harmony House in Sheboygan in 2004. On June 15, 2005, William passed away and Eva stayed there until October 2006 when she moved to Florida to be close to her family. She was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel, and Our Savior Lutheran Church, Sheboygan, and was a current member of Peace Lutheran Church, Kissimmee, Fla. She was an active member of the Kiel Senior Citizens where she participated in the Kiel Senior Singers, and she was a past president of the Ladies Aid of her church. Besides being with her children and especially grandchildren, her specialty was making cookies, particularly cutouts and canning Russian dill pickles. She also enjoyed embroidery, sewing and visiting with people, touching many lives in the process. (Survivors omitted for privacy.) She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. Eva was a wonderful cook for the Kiel school system and always went the "extra mile" for her lunchroom kids, serving them extra treats. She was a very caring woman who never said a bad word about anyone and never held a grudge. She always had an uplifting attitude about life and was a devout Christian. He was employed at Kohler Co. for 13 years, for the Depies Oil Co. for 21 years, and then at the Kiel Woodenware Co. until retiring in 1972. GERTRUDE RUH Gertrude "Gertie" Kluenker Ruh, 93, a former Kiel resident, passed away on March 2, 2011, at Willowdale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Holstein, where she lived since October 2000. She was born to Fred and Ida (Schuette) Kluenker on Oct. 13, 1917, town of Manitowoc Rapids, Manitowoc County, Wis. Funeral services will be held at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Kiel on Saturday, April 1, at 11 a.m., with visitation to begin at 9 a.m. The Rev. Judine Duerwaechter will officiate. She was baptized at home by the Rev. Machmiller of the First German Evangelical Lutheran Church of Manitowoc and was confirmed at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manitowoc in 1931. She graduated from Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, in 1935. While she waited for her beloved Melvin to return from the war, she filled her hope chest with letters from the South Pacific. She and Melvin A. Ruh were married at her church in Manitowoc, in a blizzrd, on Dec. 15, 1945. Melvin preceded her in death on Nov. 3, 2007. Gertie worked at Rahr Malting Co. in Manitowoc until her marriage and at H.G. Weber Co, in Kiel from 1965 to 1973 while their four daughters were in college. (Survivors omitted for privacy.) Gertie was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Kiel and a dedicated member of its Women's Guild. She served on the Election board for the city of Kiel and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She was involved in the Kiel Girl Scouts for more than 25 years and was a member of the Kiel Band Mothers. Gertie was an avid bowler and truly enjoyed her team members. She and Melvin cherished the members of their Card Club and their special relationship with their lifetime friends, (private). Gertie loved flowers, birds and children. She taught her daughters her skills in sewing quilting, knitting and baking. She was generous, intelligent, sweet, kind and a wonderful daughter, sister, mother, wife, friend and neighbor. We all are richer for having had her in our lives. She was the last remaining member of her family, which included her parents, Fred and Ida Kluenker, Martha (Daniel) Horvath, Fred (Clara) Kluenker and Roy (Valeria) Kluenker, and her in-laws, Edwin and Martha Ruh, Raymond and Hildegard Ruh. She will be buried next to Melvin in the Rockville Cemetery, town of Schleswig, Kiel, Wisconsin. Memorials may be made to St. Peter's United Church of Christ or a charity of the donor's choice. HARVEY RUH Harvey A. Ruh, age 77, of 411 Chicago St., Kiel, went to his eternal glory from his home on April 5, 1993. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 8, 1993, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel, with the Rev. Richard Warnke, Pastor and Rev. Clare Reiter officiating. Burial will be at Rockville Cemetery, Town of Schleswig. He was born June 18, 1915, in the Town of Meeme, son of the late Henry and Louise Schultz Ruh. He attended Kiel School and was a graduate of American School of Chicago. On November 30, 1941, he married Florence Olm of Collins at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Collins. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1991. He was employed with Stoelting Inc in Kiel for 43 years before retiring on May 15, 1981. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and hunting. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Kiel. Survivors include his wife, Florence; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rochelle (Dennis) Salzman, Houston, Texas, Roxanne (Glen) Jablonka, Madison; three grandsons, Robert Salzman, Stevens Point, Stephen and Kathy Salzman, College Station, Texas, Jonathon Jablonka, Madison; one granddaughter, Melissa Jablonka, Madison; six brothers and sisters-in-law, Arno Voight, Kiel, Myrnabelle (Ernest) Sy, Valders, Karl Olm, Manitowoc, Kenneth (Eelyn) Olm, Kiel, Audrey (Wallace) Prausa, Manitowoc, and Elaine Youngchild, Manitowoc. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Norma Voight. HILDEGARDE RUH Hildegarde Ruh, 84, formerly of Kiel, died Sunday morning, Dec. 9, 2001 at Morningside Health Center, Sheboygan. She is the former Hildegarde Pohl, born April 9, 1918 in Sheboygan Falls, a daughter of the late Edwin and Unetah Bosma Pohl. On Sept 25, 1937 she married Raymond A. Ruh at St. Paul's Lutheran church, Sheboygan Falls. He preceded her in death on January 13, 1987. Hildegarde was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Kiel and a former member of the Ladies Aid Society. She also enjoyed playing cards. Survivors include one son, Richard Ruh of Kiel, one daughter, Barbara (Eugene) Beckmann of Sun Lakes, Ariz., six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Eva (Bill) Halleen of Sheboygan, Evelyn (Leslie) Witte of Sheboygan Falls; one brother, Willard (Dolores) Pohl of Sheboygan and one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Melvin and Gertie Ruh of Kiel. JOHN H. RUH JOHN H. RUH DIES THURSDAY Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Zion Lutheran Church, Louis Corners for John H. Ruh, 81, of 510 Calumet Ave. The Rev. Aldalbert Schultz officiated and burial was in the Schleswig Cemetery at Rockville. Mr. Ruh passed away Thursday. His death was attributed to a heart attack. Born June 28, 1883, in the Town of Schleswig, he was a son of the late Adam and Julia Ruh, received his education in the district school, and married Mary Schnuell of the Town of Eaton on June 8, 1905, at Manitowoc. The couple lived in New Holstein until 1917 when they moved to the Town of Schleswig where they operated a farm until their retirement in 1953. They observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1955. His wife died in July 1961. After her death Mr. Ruh moved to Kiel. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church at Louis Corners, and a former member of the church cemetery board, the church choir, and church board. Mr. Ruh served as treasurer of the Town of Schleswig for many years and was a former membre of the board of Schleswig Joint School District 7 at Louis Corners. Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Paul (Anita) Lilge of Kiel; five sons, William and Jacob of Manitowoc, Fred of Kiel, Otto of rural Elkhart Lake, John Jr. of rural Kiel; 18 granchildren; seven great- grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Roland Pohl Weiss of Wisconsin Rapids, Mrs. Viola Neuber of Chilton, and four brothers, Edwin and Harry of Rockville, Arthur of New Holstein, Roland of Milwaukee. JULIA RUH Julia Maggie Dedering was born January 3, 1865 near Thiensville in the town of Mequon in Ozaukee County. As a young girl she moved with her parents to the Town of Schleswig in Manitowoc County. On November 24, 1882 she married Adam Ruh and they lived in the Town of Schleswig. Adam was employed as a mason until 1890 when he and Julia bought Julia's father, Heinrich Dedering's farm. Julia and Adam had 14 children. In 1909 their son, Helmuth, died of acute endocardites at the age of seven years. Adam had a jovial disposition until he became a victim of melancholia. He gradually recovered, but then 3 weeks before he died, he had another attack which ended in the unexpected death. Julia died 8 months later of heart trouble. (No newspaper or date cited)


LILY RUH Rites Held Monday For Lily Ruh Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Miss Lily Ruh, 60, who died Saturday at St. Nicholas hospital after and illness of several months. The Rev. E. L. Worthman was in charge of the services and burial was made in the Rockville cemetery. Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased: Fred Ruh, William Ruh, Raymond Ruh, Melvin Ruh, Harvey Ruh, and Earl Mathes. Miss Ruh was born May 8, 1892, in the town of Schleswig, the daughter of Adam and Julia Ruh. For 40 years she lived with a sister on a farm in the town of Schleswig, and for the past two years, made her home in Kiel. Her parents, three sisters and a brother preceded her in death. MARTHA RUH Mrs. Edwin Ruh, 63, Rockville, died at the Maplewood Nursing Home, Sheboygan Falls. The former Martha Schultz, she was born near Plymouth and moved to the Town of Schleswig with her parents. On April 7, 1912, she was married to Edwin Ruh, of the town of Schleswig. They lived at Rockville where Mrs. Ruh was a charter member of the Ladies Aid of St. Peter’s Evan. and Reformed Church. She was also a charter member of the Merry Go Round Club of Rockville. Survivors include her husband, two sons, Raymond and Melvin, both of Kiel; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Ruh of Kiel and Mrs. Edward P. Reiss, Sheboygan; one brother, Herbert of Cascade and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother. MARY A. RUH Funeral Services Held For Mrs. John Ruh, Sr. Mrs. John H. Ruh, sr., 75, Route 1, Kiel died at her home Saturday. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Zion Lutheran church at Louis Corners. Burial was made in the Rockville cemetery. Born Mary Schnell(sic) in the Town of Eaton, Manitowoc County, on Sept. 24, 1885, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Johanna Schnell. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Louis Corners, Manitowoc County, and attended district schools in the Town of Eaton. On June 8, 1905 she was married in Manitowoc to John Ruh of the Town of Schleswig and the couple lived in New Holstein until 1917, then operated a farm in the town of Schleswig until their retirement in 1952. The couple observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1955. Mrs. Ruh was a life-long member of Zion Church. Survivors are her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Paul (Anita) Lilge, Kiel; five sons, William of Manitowoc, Fred of Kiel, Jacob of R. 1, Manitowoc, Otto of R. 2, Elkhart Lake and John Jr. on the homestead farm, R. 2, Kiel; two sisters, Mrs. Jacob Reichert, Kiel and Mrs. William Ott, R. 1, Valders; a brother Charles; 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. MELVIN A. RUH Melvin Adam Ruh, 88, a lifelong resident of Kiel, died Nov. 3, 2007, at Willowdale Rehabilitation Clinic in New Holstein. He was born March 1, 1919, in Rockville, town of Schleswig, son of the late Edwin W. and Martha (Schultz) Ruh. In 1937, Melvin proudly achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and was a Cub Scout leader. The skills he learned in scouting helped him throughout his life. He was a graduate of Kiel High School's class of 1938. During WWII, Melvin served with the Army's 32nd (Red Arrow) Division in New Guinea and the Philippines from 1941 until his honorable discharge in 1945 with the rank of staff sergeant. He received several accommodations and medals including bronze stars and the Purple Heart. On Dec. 15, 1945, in a snowstorm, he married the former Gertrude Kluenker at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manitowoc. For 37 years, Melvin proudly worked for the city of Kiel and retired as its director of public works. He continued to remain active after his retirement serving on committees and commissions. He was a devoted member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Kiel where he served on the Consistory for 12 years, was active in the Brotherhood, ushering, building committee and 125 Year Anniversary Committee. Melvin was a member of the Kiel Fire Department from 1948 until 1984, and a lifetime member of the Kiel VFW Post 6707. He helped pioneer the concept of recycling in this area as a member of the Manitowoc County Ad Hoc Recycling Committee. He instructed the next generation of hunters by teaching hunter safety classes in Kiel for many years. Melvin was a gifted woodworker, mason, musician and gardener. He repaired and created furniture using his skills on the wood lathe and by caning chair seats. Through his 87th year, he enjoyed fishing in Canada and deer hunting in the Walla Hi and near Ashland with his sons-in-law and grandsons-in-law. Melvin and Gertrude traveled extensively in the United States, Canada, Australia, and Europe with yearly trips to Sievert's Café in Germany. He cherished his many friends in Germany and relished speaking fluent German with them. His harmonica music brightened many lives throughout his lifetime. Melvin was a kind, generous, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. (Survivors omitted for privacy.) Funeral services will be held at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel, on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Judine Duerwaechter presiding. Burial with military honors will be at Schleswig Cemetery, Rockville. Visitation will be held at the Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, 815 Sixth St., Kiel, from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007, and Thursday morning at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. VFW Post 6707 military services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Music will be provided by organist (private), and (private) on the guitar and harmonica. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Melvin's name to St. Peter's UCC, the city of Kiel or a charity of the donor's choice. Melvin's family is deeply moved by the love, support and compassion that Melvin and Gertie have received from their friends, neighbors and the staff at Willowdale. RAYMOND A. RUH Raymond A. Ruh, 73, of 415 Mill Road, Kiel, died this morning at Willowdale Nursing Home, New Holstein where he had been a resident for a week. He was born March 8, 1913, in Rockville, a son of the late Edwin and Martha Schultz Ruh. He attended Rockville school and Kiel High School. On Sept. 25, 1937 he married Hildegarde Pohl at St. Paul Lutheran church, Sheboygan Falls. He was employed at Kiel Roller Mills for 25 years, Depies Feeds, New Holstein for 10 years and as a mason until retiring in 1981. Mr. Ruh was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kiel, and a former member of the church council and Choir. Survivors include his wife; a son, Richard of Kiel; a daughter, Mrs. Eugene (Barbara) Beckmann of Kiel; six grandchildren; and a brother, Melvin of Kiel. Funeral services will be held Thursday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kiel. The Rev. Richard Warnke, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Schleswig Cemetery, Rockville.
