CHARLES UHL Charles Uhl of Kiel, Dies, Buried Today Charles Uhl, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. John Rosenbauer, 3 miles northeast of Kiel. He was unmarried. Three sisters and three brothers survive. Burial took place this afternoon with interment in the Rockville Cemetery. Manitowoc Herald News, Friday, Dec. 11, 1931 page 6 ******** Kiel – Charles Uhl, 76, passed away shortly before noon Wednesday at the home of his sister, Mrs. John Rosenbauer, three and one-half miles northeast of Kiel. Mr. Uhl suffered a stroke early in the morning. Mr. Uhl, who was unmarried, was born in New York state on April 10, 1855, the son of the late Jacob and Elizabeth Uhl both of whom were born in Germany. On December 2, 1859, the deceased came to Wisconsin, locating on a farm in the town of Rhine, Sheboygan County. After the death of his parents, he sold the farm and in 1907 went to live with his sister, Mrs. John Rosenbauer. He is survived by three sisters, and one brother, Namely; Miss Sophia Uhl of Kiel, Mrs. Valentine Raeder of Elkhart Lake, and Mrs. John Rosenbauer, who lives near Kiel, and one brother, Jacob Uhl of near Franklin. Three sisters and three brothers preceded him in death several years ago. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Friday at the Rosenbauer residence. FRED UMSONST Fred Umsonst, 75, retired town of Schleswig farmer, died Tuesday at Enders Nursing home at Glenbeulah. Born Feb. 23, 1879, on the homestead farm in Schleswig, the son of Peter and Catherine Block Umsonst, he was married to Sabina Rosenthal of the town of Rhine on Sept. 2, 1905, and the couple operated the Umsonst farm. She died in July of 1934. On May 16, 1936, he married Mrs. Mary Ramminger. (Survivors omitted for privacy) One sister preceded him in death. He was a member of St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church at Kiel where services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. E. L. Worthman officiating. KATHARINA UMSONST Mrs. Umsonst Called to Rest This Morning Kiel – Mrs. Katherine Umsonst, 90, a resident of the town of Schleswig, passed away at the farm homestead this morning at 3 o’clock. She had been in ill health for the past four years. The former Katherine Glock, she was born in town Rhine, Aug. 18, 1852. On Nov. 9, 1873, she was married to Peter Umsonst and with him went to live at the farm where she passed away. When Mr. and Mrs. Umsonst retired from the active duties on their farm, their son, Fred, took it over, but they continued to reside there. Mr. Umsonst passed away on Jan. 25, 1924. Of the three children born to the couple, one daughter died when she was nine years old. Surviving are two sons, Fred, on the homestead, and William, of town Meeme, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at the Meiselwitz Funeral home and at 2 o’clock at St. Peter’s Evangelical and Reformed church. The Rev. E. L. Worthman will officiate and burial will be in the family lot in Rockville cemetery, near Kiel. The was (sic) the former Katherine Glock born in the town of Rhine, in 1852. She was married to Peter Umsonst in 1873 and the couple located at the farm in Schleswig. Mr. Umsonst died in 1924. Surviving are two sons, Fred, who lives on the Umsonst farm, and William, of Meeme, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. PETER UMSONST Death claimed Peter Umsonst, one of the old-time and highly respected residents of the town of Schleswig, on Friday, after a brief illness. Death was due to heart disease. Deceased was born in Hessen-Darmstadt, Germany, October 19, 1847. He came to America in 1866, at first locating in the town of Plymouth, Sheboygan county. In 1873 he was united in marriage to Catharine Glock of the town of Rhine, and the couple settled on a farm in the town of Schleswig, where they have since resided. On November 9, 1923, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at Ortlieb's with a large gathering of relatives and friends. Their union was blessed with three children, of whom one died. Besides his widow Mr. Umsonst is survived by two sons, William and Fred., and three grand- children. The funeral took place Monday afternoon, services being conducted at the Reformed church in Kiel by Rev. W. Rech. Interment in the Rockville cemetery. (No newspaper named)


SABINA UMSONST Mrs Fred Umsonst, 53, Dies At Farm Residence Mrs. Fred Umsonst, 53, nee Sabina Rosenthal, died early this morning at her farm home near Kiel. Death followed an illness of over 15 years. Mrs. Umsonst has been an invalid for the past 3 years. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 from the home and at 2 o'clock from the St. Peter's Reformed church. Burial will be made at the Rockville cemetery. The deceased was born August 16, 1880 in the Town of Rhine. She was married September 2, 1905 to Fred Umsonst. The couple have resided on their farm near Kiel since their marriage. Survivors include the widower; two daughters, Roma and Anna at home; two brothers, John of Kiel and Louis, who made his home with the deceased; 2 step-brothers, Henry Weitel of the town of Rhine and Henry Rosenthal of Wausaw; and three step-sisters, Mrs. Fred Jung of the town of Rhine, Mrs. James Hartmann of Bryne, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Theresa Dexheimer of Sheboygan. MAYNARD B. VANDERMAUSE Maynard B. Vandermause, age 76, of 830 B Blackstone Road, Kiel, entered into eternal life on Wednesday morning, Jan. 21, 2009, at River's Bend Health & Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc, where he resided the past seven months. He was born on Aug. 2, 1932, in Rio Creek, son of the late Ben and Hilda (Luedtke) Vandermause. Maynard was a 1951 graduate of Sevastopol High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving his country in France during the Korean Conflict from 1952 until 1954. On June 21, 1952, he married LaVerne Peterson at St. John's Lutheran Church in Valmy. Maynard had previously worked as a cheesemaker and was employed at Hendricks Beverage before owning and operating Green Street Tavern in Manitowoc from 1970 until 1979. Maynard and his wife, LaVerne, purchased Maynard's Millhome Supper Club in Kiel in 1979, retiring in 1993. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel. Maynard enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, talking and visiting with his friends, and watching sports. (Survivors omitted for privacy.) He was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law: Clarence and Ruth Peterson; one sister: June Schumacher; brother-in-law: Gordon Schumacher; and brothers-in-law: Dyke Van Dyke; Bob Peterson; Don Peterson; and Harvey Jonas. Funeral services for Maynard will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 387 Cemetery Road, Kiel, with the Rev. Jeremy Cares officiating. HEINRICH VIETMEYER, JR. (b. 1858) Henry Vietmeyer, a former well known resident and proprietor of the Central Hotel died last Wednesday morning at the age of 44 years after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, 3 brothers and 3 sisters. The funeral was Saturday at the Rockville cemetery. Plymouth Post, December 10, 1902


HEINRICH VIETMEYER, SR. (b. 1829) Henry Vietmeyer Sr. the father of the recently deceased Henry Vietmeyer Jr. died on last Tuesday in Milwaukee at the age of 73 years. He was born in Hohenhausen, Lippe Detmold, Germany and was one of the oldest residents of Town Schleswig in Manitowoc County. He had a farm there for many years and later operated a feed mill in Millhome. His wife passed away 9 years ago and he leaves 3 daughters and 2 sons, Mrs. H. Schulz of Rockville is a daughter of the deceased. The funeral will be Friday in Rockville with Pastor Roeck of Kiel officiating. Plymouth Post, December 17, 1902


MARY VIETMEYER (2nd husband Fritzmeier) Kiel—Mrs. Mary Fritzmeier, aged 79, well known former resident of this city, passed away Monday morning at the Milwaukee General hospital after an illness of four weeks. Deceased was born December 24, 1860, in the town of Schleswig, the daughter of the late Christian and Wilhelmina Hansmann. In 1893 she was united in marriage to Henry Vietmeyer of Millhome and the couple lived in that place and also in Elkhart Lake for a number of years. Her husband died in 1902, and in 1908 she was married to August Fritzmeier of this city. The couple lived at 825 N. Sixth Street until Mr. Fritzmeier passed away May 22, 1924, when she moved to Milwaukee and made her home with her daughter, Mrs. August (Annie) Luedke. Survivors are her only daughter, Mrs. Luedke, by her first marriage; three grandchildren, Constance, Truman and Evelyn Luedke of Milwaukee, one brother, Christian Hansmann of the town of Schleswig, and three sisters, Mrs. Ida Loos of Louis Corners, Mrs. Emma Erbstoeser of Sheboygan and Mrs. Anna Kleinhans of Johnsonville. Four brothers, William, August John and Fred Hansmann and one sister Mrs. Wilhelmina Fink, preceded her in death. Funeral services were held this afternoon in Milwaukee after which the body was brought to the Meiselwitz Funeral home in this city where it will lie in state, where services will be conducted by the Rev. MARILYN W. VOELKER Marilyn W. Voelker, 69, of 14010 Meggers Road, Kiel, died unexpectedly Friday morning, Dec. 31, 2004, at her home. She was the former Marilyn Otto, born June 15, 1935, in DePere, daughter of the late Alfred and Wilma Kuechenbecker Otto. Marilyn was a 1954 graduate of Kiel High School. On November 19, 1954, she married Merle Voelker in Manitowoc. In August of this past year, Marilyn, Merle and their family celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Cancun, Mexico and on November 18, 2004, continued their celebration at Cedar Lake. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel. Marilyn enjoyed craft work, bingo, gardening and spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Merle of Kiel; four children, Kathy (Steve) Vogel, Kiel, Deb (Jim) Bolich, Clovis, Calif., Tom (Paula) Voelker, Appleton and Tim (Missy) Voelker, Kiel; and eight grandchildren, Justin and Brent Vogel, Vanessa and Ava Bolich, Westin Voelker and Cole, Carter and Connor Voelker. She is also survived by two brothers, Earl Otto and fiance, Lola Gruenke, St. Nazianz, Roy (Diane) Otto, Manitowoc; two sisters, Betty Koenigs, Mischicot, Audrey Schneider, Kiel; brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Tina Isely, Kiel, and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 387 Cemetery Road, Kiel with the Rev. David Laabs officiating. ALVIN W. VOGEL Alvin Vogel, 60, Kiel, Route 1 (town of Eaton), died early Saturday evening at the Memorial Hospital, Sheboygan, where he had been a patient for 45 days. He was born in Kiel on May 26, 1895, the son of the late Fred Vogel and the former Helena Dedering. On Dec. 8, 1917, he was married to Clara Schmitt of the town of Rhine. The couple lived in Steinthal, (Manitowoc County), until 1937 when they moved to the Vogel homestead farm in the town of Eaton. He was a mason by trade. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. LeRoy (Leora) Jackum, Newton; and Mrs. Edgar (Delores) Pohland, Sheboygan; three grandchildren, two brothers, Walter of St. Nazianz, and Arno of Kiel, Route 2. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son and two sisters. He was a World War I veteran. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Peter Ev. and Reformed Church Kiel. The Rev. E. L. Worthman will officiate. Burial will be in the Rockville Cemetery. ARNO VOGEL (d. 1962) Arno W. Vogel, 67, of 713 Fourth St., Kiel, died Monday evening at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since Friday. He was born at Kiel Sept. 24, 1894, the son of William and Clara Vogel, and was married April 21, 1914, to Christina Gisch at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel. For many years he was employed at the Standard Oil Co. and prior to his retirement three years ago was superintendent at the Kiel Manufacturing Co. Mr. Vogel was a lifelong member of St. John’s Church. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Howard (Bernice) Bartelt, Milwaukee; two sons, Lester, Kiel, and Arnold, Milwaukee; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter’s Church with the Rev. Vernon E. Jaberg, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Schleswig Cemetery, Rockville. ARNO VOGEL (d. 1963) Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Salem United church of Christ, Plymouth for Arno F. Vogel, Plymouth, former resident of town of Schleswig, who died Saturday at St. Nicholas hospital. The Rev. Lowell Ferguson officiated. Burial was in the Rockville Cemetery. Born on June 24, 1900, in the town of Schleswig, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Vogel. He attended schools in the area and in October 1919 married the former Hertha Schmidt. The couple farmed in the town of Schleswig. Mrs. Vogel died in 1951. In 1958 Mr. Vogel moved to Plymouth and in 1959 married Mrs. Lottie Kuster there. Until his retirement two years ago he was employed at the Plymouth Iron and Metal Co. He was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Kiel and since coming to Plymouth was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ. Surviving are his wife, four sons, Ruben of Sheboygan, Elroy of the town of Sheboygan Falls, Donald of New Holstein and Vernon of Kiel; seven daughters, Mrs. Melvin Happel, town of Schleswig, Mrs. Alvis Lenz, R. 1, Newton, Mrs. Norman Lehrke, Town of Greenbush, Mrs. Joseph Lisowe, Plymouth, Mrs. Clarence Richter, Town of Herman and Miss Betty Ann and Miss Judy, both of Plymouth; 33 grandchildren; and one brother, Walter, St. Nazianz. CHRISTINE VOGEL Christine Vogel, 97, a former Kiel resident, died Saturday evening, August 3, at the Samaritan Home in West Bend, where she had been a resident since January of 1985. The former Christine Gisch was born on January 29, 1894 in Chilton, daughter of the late John and Elizabeth William Gisch. She attended school in Chilton. On April 14, 1914 she married Arno W. Vogel in Kiel. He preceded her in death in 1960. She was employed at the former Hansen Glove Factory in Kiel for many years until her retirement. She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel, the Ladies Aide, a charter member of the Frauen Vrein and the G.U.G. Germania Society. Survivors include one son, Arnold L. (Beverly) Vogel, Slinger; one daughter, Bernice (Howard) Bartelt, Milwaukee; one daughter-in-law, Sylvia Vogel, Kiel; eight grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; one sister, Edna Aistrup, South Dakota. She is preceded in death by one son, Lester; one great grandson and three sisters. Funeral services were held Tuesday at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel. Rev. Raymond C. CLARA VOGEL (d. 1950) Mrs. William Vogel, 70, 503 North Street, Kiel, passed away at 4 p Saturday. Nee Clara Schmidt, she was born July 29, 1873 in the Town of Schleswig, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Anton Schmidt. She was married March 23, 1893 to William Vogel of Kiel. The couple lived in Kiel since their marriage. Mr. Vogel preceded her in death on July 8, 1944. Survivors include one son, Arno W. Vogel of Kiel; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. William Diefenthaler of Kiel. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Tuesday at the St. Peter & Paul Evangelical and Reformed Church Kiel. The Rev. E.L. Worthman will officiate and burial will be made in the Rockville Cemetery. CLARA (SCHMITT) VOGEL (d. 1962) Mrs. Clara Vogel, 63, of Rt. 1, Kiel, died early Thursday morning at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital following an illness of four months. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter United Church of Christ, Kiel, with the Rev. Vernon E. Jaberg officiating. Burial will be in Schleswig Cemetery, Rockville. She was born May 21, 1899, in the Town of Wilson, Sheboygan County, daughter of the late Peter and Apollonia Zimmermann Schmitt. The family moved into the Town of Rhine. She was married Dec. 8, 1917, to Alvin Vogel. The couple lived for a time at Steinthal and moved to the farm in the Town of Eaton in 1937. Her husband preceded her in death in October of 1955. She was a member of her church. Among survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Leroy Jakum and Mrs. Edgar Pohland of Sheboygan; three brothers, Albert and Elmer of Kiel and Herbert of Rt. 1, Elkhart Lake; six sisters, Mrs. Roland Westphalen of Rt. 1, Kiel, Mrs. Walter Vogel of St. Nazianz, Mrs. Herbert Schwartz of Rt. 2, Kiel, Mrs. Elmer Hermann of Sheboygan, Mrs. Leon Roeck of Kiel and Mrs. Eugene Mathes of Rt. 1, Plymouth. A son and sister preceded her in death. ELLA VOGEL Mrs. Herman A. Vogel, 68, passed away at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday at the farm home near Rockville in the town of Schleswig, Manitowoc county. Born in Milwaukee on March 10, 1885, nee Ella Wegner, she was the daughter of Herman and Augusta Tank Wegner, and was married to Herman Vogel on Jan. 1, 1912 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church at Milwaukee. Following their marriage they made their home on the present farm. Survivors are her husband; a son Herbert on the homestead; a daughter, Mrs. Herman (Esther) Boje of the town of Herman; four grandchildren; four brothers, Arthur of Wisconsin Rapids, Edward of West Allis, Oscar of Milwaukee and Alfred of Wauwatosa. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church at Louis Corners with the Rev. William Hartwig officiating, and burial will be made in the Rockville cemetery. FRED VOGEL Hold Services for Fred Vogel Steinthal Farmer Succumbs on Monday; Rites Wednesday Funeral services for Fred Vogel, 62, who passed away at his home in Steinthal, in the town of Eaton, Manitowoc county, at 3 a.m. Monday, after a four weeks' illness, were held at 1:30 p.m. this Wednesday from the Meiselwitz Funeral Home and at 2 o'clock from the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church, with the Rev. E. L. Worthman officiating. Burial was made in the Rockville cemetery. Mr. Vogel was born on the farm homestead near Rockville September 20, 1873. On October 5, 1893, he was united in marriage with Miss Helena Dedering of the town of Schleswig. The couple moved to this city, where they lived for approximately six months. They moved to various places and in 1916 moved to Steinthal, where they have been living for the past twenty years. He is survived by his wife; three sons, Alvin at home, Walter of St. Nazianz, and Arno of the town of Schleswig; one daughter, Mrs. Alvin Rabe of Steinthal, and a brother, Herman, living on the homestead farm. There are sixteen grandchildren. - May 21, 1936


FREDDIE VOGEL Town Schleswig Boy, Age 6, Dies After An Illness Kiel.—(Special) —Freddie Roland Vogel, 6-year-old son of Arno and Hattie Schmitt Vogel, died at the home of his parents 4 1/2 miles north of here Friday at 6:55 p. m. after a week’s illness. He was born on the farm home Sept. 3, 1933, and was baptised by the Rev. E. L. Worthman at St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church of Kiel March 18, 1934. He was a student of the first grade of the Wodland Park school in the town of Schleswig, and a member of the primary department of St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church. Survivors are his parents; five sisters, Lucinda, Mabel, Ellen, Elaine and Betty Ann; five brothers, Reuben, Arlen, Elroy, Vernon and Donald, and his grandmother, Mrs. Peter Schmitt of School Hill. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon, at 1:30 at the C. J. Meiselwitz Funeral Home here, with burial in the Rockville cemetery. The Rev. Mr. Worthman will officiate. Friends may view the body at the funeral home after 3 o’clock Monday afternoon.


HELENA VOGEL Mrs. Helena Vogel, aged 63, widow of the late Fred Vogel, passed away at her home in the town of Eaton on Sunday morning at 1:15 a. m., after an illness of one year. Mrs. Vogel, nee Dedering, was born on a farm in the town of Schleswig, on July 15, 1873, where she grew to womanhood. She was married to Fred Vogel of the same township on October 5, 1894, and the couple resided in Kiel for several months, and then moved to the town of Schleswig, and for the past 20 years have resided on the Vogel homestead in the town of Eaton. Mr. Vogel preceded his wife in death on May 18th of this year. Survivors are: three sons, Alvin Vogel on the homestead, Walter Vogel of St. Nazianz; and Arno F. Vogel of Meggers; one daughter, Mrs. Alvin (Helen) Rabe of Steinthal; 18 grandchildren; and six brothers, Henry and Otto Dedering of New Holstein; William of this city; Charles of Collins; August of Menasha, and Fred of Rockville. One sister, Mrs Adam Ruh and a brother, Gustave Dedering preceded Mrs. Vogel in death. Funeral services were held this Wednesday afternoon from the C. J. Meiselwitz Funeral home here, and at 2 o’clock with services at the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church, with the Rev. E. L. Worthman officiating. Burial will be made in the Rockville cemetery. - 1936


HERBERT VOGEL (d. 2007) Herbert A. Vogel Jr., age 73, of Elkhart Lake, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at his home. He was born Feb. 13, 1934, in the town of Schleswig, the son of the late Herbert Sr. and Stella (Bebermeier) Vogel. Herb attended Rockville Grade School and Kiel High School. From 1957 to 1958, Herb served his country in the U.S. Army. On March 1, 1996, Herb married the former Lynn Luedke at Louis Corners. For many years Herb was a truck driver for Packerland Packing of Green Bay. After his retirement, he remained active driving truck part time for Bob Miller Trucking. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, and raising rabbits and pigeons. (Survivors omitted for privacy.) Herb was preceded in death by his parents and a sister: Lynn Vogel. Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the Meiselwitz- Vollstedt Funeral Home with the Rev. David Mercer officiating. HERBERT O. VOGEL, SR. (d. 2006) Herbert O. Vogel, Sr, 92, of 13628 Meggers Road, Kiel, died peacefully Thursday evening, August 24, 2006 at his daughter, Cheryl’s home. He was born January 13, 1914 in the town of Schleswig, son of the late Herman & Ella Wegner Vogel. On November 8, 1933 he married Stella M. Bebermeier in Louis Corners. Stella preceded him in death on June 2, 2000. Herb farmed in the town of Schleswig much of his life. He also worked at AA Laun Furniture Co., Kiel and drove a cattle truck in the area until his retirement. He was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel. Herb enjoyed the outdoors where he could work in his garden and yard and raise chickens. He also liked listening to polka music. Survivors include three children (private), ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He is further survived by one sister, Esther Boje, Kiel, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife and one daughter, Lynn Vogel. HERMAN A. VOGEL Herman A. Vogel, 79, of R. 1, Kiel, a retired Town of Schleswig farmer, died early today at his farm home, one mile east of Rockville, after a short illness. Born Sept. 19, 1879, in Schleswig, a son of the late William and Minnie Dalmann Vogel, he attended rural schools and was married to Miss Ella Wegner of Milwaukee in 1912. The couple settled in the Town of Schleswig after their marriage and operated a farm until their retirement in 1942. The farm is now operated by a son, Herbert. Mr. Vogel was a member of Zion Lutheran Church at Louis Corners. Survivors are the son, Herbert; a daughter, Mrs. Herman (Esther) Boje of the Town of Herman, and five grandchildren. HERTHA "HATTIE" VOGEL Mrs. Arno F. Vogel Dies Sunday Morning; Buried on Tuesday Sunday morning death claimed Mrs. Arno F. Vogel, aged 50, a resident of the town of Schleswig, following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held this Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock at the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church, with the Rev. E. L. Worthman officiating. Burial was made in the Rockville cemetery. The deceased, nee Hattie Schmitt, was born the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Schmitt on July 23, 1901. October 14, 1919, she married to Arno F. Vogel, and the couple operated several farms in the town of Schleswig. They have lived on their present farm, just east of Kiel, since 1943. INFANT VOGEL (d. 1960) The Rev. Vernon E. Jaberg, pastor of St. Peter's Evangelical and Reformed Church in Kiel conducted graveside rites for the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert A. Vogel, Kiel. The infant was born on Saturday at St. Nicholas Hospital and died soon after birth. The service took place on Monday afternoon at the Rockville Cemetery. LYNN VOGEL (d. 1998) Lynn Sophia Harriet Vogel, 48, of 13628 Meggers Road, Kiel, died unexpectedly, Thursday morning Feb. 12, 1998 at her home. She was born Dec. 13, 1949 in Sheboygan, daughter of Herbert and Stella Bebermeier Vogel. Lynn was a 1968 graduate of Kiel High School. Earlier in her life, she was a switchboard operator at Goodwill Industries in Milwaukee and also worked for the Salvatorian Center, New Holstein. She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel, where she taught Sunday and Bible School. Lynn was an avid sports fan, who collected sports memorabilia for her scrapbooks and enjoyed walking. Survivors include her parents, Herbert and Stella, rural Kiel; one brother, Herbert Jr. (Lynn) Vogel, rural Elkhart Lake; two sisters, Karen ( Vic) Breunig, Brookfield; Cheryl (Robert) Hersey, Elkhart Lake; Nieces, Nephews, great nieces and nephews. STELLA M. VOGEL Stella Marie Vogel, 85, died Friday morning, June 2, 2000, at Calumet Homestead Rehabilitation Center, New Holstein, where she resided the past 1 1/2 years. She was married to Herbert Vogel with whom she worked side by side farming and made many meals for a threshing crew of 13 men. Stella enjoyed quilting, embroidery, canning, gardening, crossword puzzles and word search. WILHELMINE VOGEL Notes from Schleswig: Died a week ago Wednesday, Mrs. Wm Vogel Sr., nee Wilhelmine Dallman, after a two months sickness of heart trouble. The deceased who reached the age of 72 years was born in 1841 in Steinhofer, Pommern, Germany and came to Schleswig in 1868 and was united in marriage to Mr. Vogel the same year. She is survived by her husband and four sons, Frank of Milwaukee, Wm of Waldo, Fred of Stunthal and Herman on the old homestead; one brother in Minnesota and thirteen grandchildren. WILLIAM FREDERICK VOGEL Called by Death William Frederick Vogel, one of the old-time and well-known residents of the town of Schleswig, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday afternoon at the home of his son Herman in the town of Schleswig, where he made his home. A stroke of paralysis was the cause of death. Mr. Vogel was born in Pommerania, Germany, January 5th, 1845, and immigrated to America as a young man in 1867, coming to the town of Mosel, Sheboygan county. In 1868, he was married to Wilhelmina Dahlmann in the town of Sheboygan, and in the fall of the same year the couple settled in the town of Schleswig, where Mr. Vogel has since resided. In 1917 his wife died and since then he has been living with his son Herman on the old homestead. Mr. Vogel was one of the sturdy German pioneers of this section and always enjoyed good health until about four months ago, when he began to fail, and 12 days ago he suffered a paralytic stroke, which affected the right side of his body and eventually caused his death. He reached the advanced age of 79 years, 2 months, and 17 days, and is survived by four sons, Frank of Milwaukee, William of Waldo, Fred. of Steinthal, and Herman of the old homestead. Also 13 grandchildren survive him. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon at 1:30, from the house, with burial in the Rockville cemetery, Rev. Kuether of Louis Corners officiated.


WILLIAM F. VOGEL William F. Vogel Funeral Services Held On Tuesday Kiel.-Funeral services for William F. Vogel, 69, of 618 St. Paul street, Kiel, who died suddenly on Saturday were held Tuesday. ELSIE VOIGT Elsie Voigt, 101, formerly of Kiel, died Sunday morning Jan. 2, 2000 at Calumet Homestead Rehabilitation Center in new Holstein where she had been a resident for the past 23 years. The former Elsie Spettel was born May 29, 1989 in the town of Eaton, Manitowoc County, daughter of the late Jacob and Clara Strassman Spettel. On Dec. 2, 1915 she married Walter Voigt. He died on Aug. 8, 1964. The couple farmed in the townships of Schleswig, Woodville and Chilton. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter United Church of Christ in Kiel. Survivors include one son, Jack (Dorothy) Voigt of Potter, and one daughter, Ellen (Clarence) Luchterhand of Middleton; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; and one sister, Lendoris (William Jr.) Buchholz of Kiel. EMELIA VOIGT (d. 1980) Mrs. Emelia Voigt, 94, formerly of Kiel died January 24, at Willowdale Nursing Home, New Holstein, where she had been the past three years. The former Emelia Voigt was born September 19, 1885, in the town of Meeme, daughter of Joachim and Johanna Paul Voigt. She attended district school. On June 20, 1907, she married Oscar Voigt. They farmed in the town of Schleswig until their retirement when they moved to Kiel. Mr. Voigt died in 1968. Mrs. Voigt was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ, Kiel. Survivors are a son, Lester of rural Kiel, three sisters, Mrs. Hulda Matznick of New Holstein, Mrs. Frieda Humer and Mrs. Lydia Frauenhofffer, both of High Park, Illinois; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Death was due to a heart attack. Mr. Voigt was afflicted with total blindness for the past thirty years. The deceased, well-known here was born in the town of Mosel on December 20, 1860, the son of John and Mary Voigt. When he was four years old the family moved to a farm in the town of Schleswig and resided there for four years, and then they moved to a farm in the town of Meeme, where they resided for ten years, and where Mr. Voigt attended the district school. On March 16, 1885 he was united in marriage with Miss Emilie Backhaus of the town of Rhine, by the late Rev. Ludwig Zenk, then pastor of the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church. After their marriage they resided on a farm in the town of Schleswig, three miles northeast of this city for 33 years, and in 1917 sold their farm to their son, Walter, and in 1918 moved to Kiel and resided at 902 N. 4th street. Survivors are five children, Oscar of the town of Schleswig, Edwin of near Kiel, Walter of Chilton, Mrs. Alex (Meta) Holzer and Mrs. Waldemar (Met) Reseburg of Kiel; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. His wife preceded him in death January 29, 1938, and since that time he has resided with his son and daughter-in-law. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock on Thursday afternoon at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, and at 2 o'clock services will be conducted at the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church. OSCAR F. VOIGT Oscar F. Voigt, 82, of 1155 Sixth St., Kiel, a retired Town of Schleswig farmer, died Sunday evening at Calumet Memorial Hospital following a long illness. He was born Feb. 3, 1886, in the Town of Schleswig, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Voigt, and was married June 20, 1907, to Emelie Voigt, of the Town of Meeme. They operated a farm in the Town of Schleswig until 1947 when they retired and moved to Kiel. They observed their 60th wedding anniversary last June. Mr. Voigt was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Kiel. Surviving are his wife; a son, Lester, Town of Schleswig; three grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Meta Holzer, Kiel. A sister and two brothers preceded him in death. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Peter’s UCC with the Rev. John F. Baumann, pastor, officiating. LESTER E. VOIGT Lester E. Voigt, 74, of 915 2nd St., Kiel, died unexpectedly on Saturday, April 25, 1998 at his home. He was born Aug. 31, 1923 in the town of Schleswig, son of the late Oscar and Emelia Voigt. He was a 1941 Kiel High School graduate. On Dec. 1, 1945 he married Elsie Reichl at St. Peter United Church of Christ in Kiel. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1995. He farmed the family homestead in the town of Schleswig and also worked at Lake to Lake in Kiel for 20 years, retiring in 1984. The couple moved to Kiel in 1989. He enjoyed playing cards with his retired friends. He was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ in Kiel, previously was a member of the Kiel Municipal Band for 14 years and a past member of the former Woodland Park School Board. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, their three sons, Robert A. (Jane) Voigt of Kiel, Charles L. (Polly) Voigt of Chilton, and Jack (Terri) Voigt of Green Oaks, Ill.; and eight grandchildren. DORA VOLAND Mrs. Fred H. Voland, 77, died unexpectedly Saturday morning at her home, 819 Third St., Kiel. The former Dora Pingel, she was born in the town of Schleswig, Oct. 13, 1880, a daughter of the late Jochim and Sophia Zachow Pingel. She attended the district school at Rockville and on March 12, 1902, was married to Fred Voland. The couple operated the Pingel homestead farm at Rockville until they retired and moved to Kiel in 1942. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1952 before Mr. Voland’s death Aug. 26, 1956. Mrs. Voland was a member of St. Peter’s Evangelical and Reformed Church, Kiel, the Women’s Guild of the church, the Rockville Merry-Go-Round Homemaker group and the Rockville Cemetery Ladies Aid Society. FRIEDERICH VOLAND Friedrick (sic) Voland passed away Tuesday evening at the home of his son, Alfred, from a lengthy nerve disease at the age of 64 years. He was born in Sachsen, Germany and came to America with his parents in 1854. They first lived in Thiensville and then on a farm one mile east of here. His wife preceded him in death 2 years ago and he is survived by 5 sons and 3 daughters, also 5 brothers. Burial is in the Rockville cemetery with Pastor Rech officiating. HELENA VOLAND Mrs. Helen Thresa Voland passed away at her home at Garnet on Sunday, September 10, 1914, after an illness of several months. Helen Krueger was born at Chilton on June 11, 1876. After leaving school she entered the convent at St. Nazainz where she remained for thirteen years. On May 7, 1901 she was married to William Voland at Woodville. Most of their married life was spent at Garnet where her husband conducted a blacksmith shop. MARK F. VOLAND Mark F. Voland, 47, of 16913 CTH X, Kiel, died unexpectedly Oct. 20, 1999 at his home. He was born April 17, 1952 in Sheboygan, son of Myron and Arleen Heimann Voland. He was a 1970 graduate of Kiel High School and a 1975 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, receiving a degree in mechanized agriculture. On May 16, 1987 he married Judy Balz at Bethlehem United Church of Christ in the Town of Schleswig. He was self-employed in farming, cash cropping and did custom work. He was also part owner of TMV Feed & Supply in School Hill. He was a member of Bethlehem UCC, very active in the Louis Corners Snowbirds and Kiel Custom Car Club where he held various offices, and active member in FFA Alumni in Kiel, Cleveland Trap & Gun Club and a past member of the Manitowoc County 4-H. He enjoyed the outdoors. Survivors include his wife; four children, Andrea and Abigail Voland of Kiel and Kevin and Steven Voland of rural Kiel; his parents of rural Kiel; his father and mother-in-law, Jerome and Carol Balz of Steinthal; his former wife, Marilyn (Don) Krupp of Kiel; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents. Funeral services were held at Bethlehem UCC with the Rev. Melinda Feller officiating. THEODORA "Johanna" VOLAND Mrs. Friederick Voland (nee Johanna Struppert) passed away in a hospital in Rochester, Minnesota on Saturday evening after an operation. She was born March 6th, 1847 in Metzleben, Germany and came to America and Milwaukee with her parents in 1853. She was married to Fred Voland for 38 years and lived in Thiensville before moving to the Plank Road near Kiel. She is survived by her husband who was disabled for the last 25 years, 3 daughters and 5 sons. The funeral is Wednesday at the Rockville Cemetery with Pastor Rech officiating. VERNA VOLAND Verna P. Voland, 93, of 21312 Rockville Road, Kiel, died Friday evening, March 27, 1998 at Friendship Manor, Kiel, where she had resided for the past three months. She is the former Verna Voigt born Feb. 5, 1905, in the town of Schleswig, the daughter of the late Theodore and Antonie Loos Voigt. On Feb. 6, 1924, she married Roy H. Voland at her home in the town of Schleswig. The couple farmed in the town of Schleswig until retiring in 1966. Roy died April 3, 1977. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran church, Louis Corners, the church’s Ladies Aid for the past 63 years, Merry-Go-Round Homemakers Club for the past 70 years, and Kiel Senior Citizens for the past 25 years. Survivors include one son, Myron (Arleen) Voland of rural Kiel; one daughter, Mar Jean Plate of Hilbert; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one brother, Clinton (Margaret) Voigt of Beloit; and one sister, Leolia Schroeder of Kiel. ELMER WAGENKNECHT IS STRUCK BY CAR HE TRIED TO FLAG DOWN Elmer Wagenknecht of Kiel is Fatally Injured In Trying To Signal For Aid Struck by a passing car which he sought to hail early Sunday morning on the highway near Waldo, Sheboygan county, following an accident to the car in which he was a passenger, Elmer G. Wagenknecht, 30, Kiel, suffered injuries from which he died a few hours later in a Sheboygan hospital. Wagenknecht was riding in the car of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Greisch of Waldo on Highway 28 between Waldo and Sheboygan Falls early Sunday morning when the car struck a cow. Breaking glass cut Mrs. Greisch severly and her husband and Wagenknecht got out of the machine to hail a passing car in order to have Mrs. Greisch taken to a physician. Waved at Car Wagenknecht stepped out on the highway to wave at a car. It was driven by Andrew Miller of Random Lake. Miller told authorities that as he was passing between two cars parked on the highway Wagenknecht stepped out on the highway and he was unable to stop before striking the Kiel man. Wagenknecht, suffering from a badly crushed leg and internal injuries, was brought to a Sheboygan hospital. His left leg was amputated but the shock was so severe and the loss of blood so great that he sank rapidly and died at 8 a.m. Sunday. His parents were with him at the hospital when he died. coroner C.N. Sonnenberg ordered an inquest held. No date for the inquest has been set. Born in Kiel Elmer G. Wagenknecht was born in Kiel March 11, 1904, a son of Gustave and Lydia Wagenknecht. He attended the Kiel schools and for years was employed at the Kiel Woodenware factory. For three years he was employed at the Leon Greisch place at Waldo and the past year returned to Kiel to work. Survivors are his parents, a brother Raymond, three sisters, Mrs. Albert Gartzke, Misses Esther and Florence Wagenknecht, all of Kiel. Manitowoc Herald Times, June 25, 1934 p.1 ******** DRIVER FREED AFTER INQUEST Andrew Miller, Random Lake, Exonerated At Sheboygan A coroner's jury at Sheboygan today exonerated Andrew Miller of Random Lake of any criminal responsibility in the death of Elmer G. Wagenknecht of Kiel in a highway accident near Waldo on the night of June 25. The evidence was heard by a six-man jury. It was the first inquest held in the new courthouse at Sheboygan. Mr. Wagenknecht stood on the highway between two automobiles parked on opposite sides of the road in an effort to flag down a car bearing down on him. He was struck by Mr. MIller, who claimed he did not see him on the highway. The car in which the Kiel man had been riding had been disabled as a result of striking a cow. Wagenknecht received injuries from which he died a few hours later in a hospital. Manitowoc Herald Times, July 27, 1934 p.2


FERDINAND WAGENKNECHT Here in his home on Friday morning, Mr. Ferdinand Wagenknecht, a well-known citizen of Kiel and respected by all, died suddenly from a heart attack. Mr. Wagenknecht was born on August 23, 1853 in Neu- Rothenmuhle, Pomerania, Germany, coming to America at the age of three years with his parents who settled in Town Schleswig. There he grew up and married Miss Minnie Mog from Sheboygan County on December 19, 1876. After working as a building carpenter for a number of years, he purchased a cheese factory two miles north of Kiel, which he operated until 1912. Since then he and his wife retired to Kiel. Last year he became ill with a stomach ailment and this summer he suffered from heart problems. Friday morning at 7:15, as he was getting up, he suffered a heart attack and died. Mr. Wagenknecht had reached the age of 63 years, 11 months and 19 days. His wife, two sons, Albert and Gustav who live here and one daughter Laura in Chicago survive him, as do seven grandchildren, one brother Julius from here and two sisters, Mrs. August Berg from here and Mrs. Louis Ruck in Milwaukee. The burial took place on Monday afternoon attended by numerous mourners at the Rockville Cemetery with Pastor Rech officiating. 1917


GUSTAVE F. WAGENKNECHT Gustave Wagenknecht, 68, a resident of Kiel for more than 45 years, died suddenly early Friday afternoon at his home, 910 Seventh street, in Kiel. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Wagenknecht, the deceased was born April 10, 1880, in the town of Schleswig and attended rural schools in the township. Following his marriage to Lydia Strassburger of Schleswig on Feb. 18, 1903, the couple moved to Kiel where Wagenknecht was employed at the Kiel Monument Works. His wife died on Dec. 18, 1918. On Jan. 5, 1929, he was married to Ida Wehrmeyer of Elkhart Lake. For the past 30 years he was an employee of the Kiel Wooden Ware company and was affiliated with Kiel lodge No. 49, Improved Order of Redmen. Survivors are the widow; three daughters, Mrs. Albert (Verla) Gartzke and Mrs. Donald (Florence) Ronk, Kiel, and Mrs. Ray (Esther) Hoeft, Grafton; a son, Raymond, Kiel; five grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Walter Haynie, Chicago. One son, Elmer, preceded him in death in 1934. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Peter’s Evangelical and Reformed church, Kiel, with the Rev. E. L. Worthman, pastor, officiating. Burial will be made in the Rockville cemetery. WAGENKNECHT Funeral services for Mrs. Ida Wagenknecht, 71, of Kiel, widow of Gustave Wagenknecht, who died Monday morning at Morningside Nursing Home, Sheboygan, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church at Kiel with the Rev. Vernon E. Jaberg officiating. Burial will be in Rockville Cemetery. Friends may call at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home in Kiel until 11 a.m. Wednesday and then at the church from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the services. Mrs. Wagenknecht was born Aug. 21, 1885, in the Town of Rhine, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Wehmeyer. She attended the district school and on Jan. 5, 1929, was married to Gustave Wagenknecht of Kiel. The couple lived in Kiel, until January of 1949 when he died, and she moved to Elkhart Lake. For the past three years she resided in Sheboygan. Survivors are four step-children, Mrs. Albert (Verla) Gartzke of Kiel, Mrs. Ray (Esther) Hoeft of Granton, Wis., Mrs. Donald (Florence) Ronk of Shiocton, Wis., and Raymond Wagenknecht of Kiel; 10 step-children and two great-step- grandchildren. MINNIE WAGENKNECHT Called By Death. On Monday, Sept. 25th at 1:05 p.m., Mrs. Minna Wagenknecht passed to her reward at the Plymouth hospital, death being due to cancer. The deceased, nee Mog, was born in Johnsonville, Sheboygan county, March 18, 1855, where she grew to womanhood. In 1876 she was united in marriage to Ferdinand Wagenknecht, and the couple made their home in Kiel for five years. In 1881 Mr. Wagenknecht built a cheese factory in the town of Schleswig, which he conducted until 1912, when he disposed of the same and moved with his wife to Kiel. Mr. Wagenknecht died several years ago. The survivors are one daughter, Laura, in Chicago, and two sons, Albert and Gustave in Kiel. Also two brothers, August and Wm. Mog, and three sisters, Mrs. Fred. Roeder and Mrs. Chas. Erdmann of Sheboygan, and Mrs. Ferd. Prussell of Chicago, Mrs. Wagenknecht had enjoyed good health until about six months ago, when she began to show signs of impaired health, but she was always up and around and it was not thought that her ailment, gall stones, was serious. Last week she complained of increased illness and upon an examination at the hospital, where she was removed to on Saturday, it was found that she was also afflicted with internal cancer, which caused her death on Monday noon. The funeral will take place this, Thursday afternoon, from her late home, with services in the Reformed church, Rev. W. Rech officiating. Interment in the family lot in the Rockville cemetery. - September 1922

JUNE WAGY Mrs. June Wagy, 49, of 722 St. Paul St., Kiel, died unexpectedly Sunday after being stricken with an apparent heart attack at her home. The former June Mathes, she was born June 2, 1929, in the town of Schleswig, a daughter of the late Edward and Hilda Ruh Mathes. She attended area schools. LAWRENCE E. WAGY Lawrence "Larry" E. Wagy, 52, of 1276 Dewey St., Kiel died Saturday morning, September 10, 2005 at St. Luke's Medical Center, Milwaukee. He was born September 19, 1952 in Quincy, IL, son of the late Carroll & June Mathes Wagy. Larry attended Kiel Schools. On April 5, 1996 he married Julie Neils at Las Vegas, NV. Larry worked for the City of Kiel as a Police Dispatcher from 1976 until 1993, retiring due to illness. He was an avid fisherman, duck hunter and sports fanatic. Survivors include his wife Julie, father & mother in-law, Elwood & Joyce Neils, Elkhart Lake sister-in-law, Jodell Wagy, Plymouth,nieces, Ericka (Timothy) Kelling and their son, Kaden of Plymouth, Tanya (Heath) Arnold, Plymouth, brother-in-laws, Rick Neils, Glenbeulah, Shawn Neils, Kiel and sisters-in-law, Robin (Jeff) Vervelde, Howards Grove, Michelle Pfeifer, Kiel. ADOLPH C. WARNKE Adolph Warnke of Kiel Summoned; Funeral Monday Kiel. – (Special) – Adolph Warnke, 73, of 627 Calumet drive, this city, died at Memorial hospital, Sheboygan, at 4:30 a.m. today. He had been confined at the hospital since Oct. 13. Mr. Warnke was born March 23, 1868, in Germany, and came to Milwaukee in 1892. Three years later he moved to Kiel to make his home. He married Wilhelmina Backhaus of Kiel on Dec. 26, 1898, at the present home. Survivors are his wife, a son, Alfred, at home, a daughter, Mrs. Leo (Selma) Rach, of Kiel, a grandson, James Rach, two sisters, one in Germany and the other, Mrs. Emma Vorphal, near Kiel. A sister and a brother in Germany preceded him in death. He had been employed for 30 years at the Kiel Woodenware company, and retired several years ago. He was a member of the senior choir of St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church for many years. ALFRED WARNKE Alfred Warnke, 63, of 527 Calumet Ave., Kiel, died unexpectedly at his home early Sunday morning. Death was attributed to a heart attack. A native of Kiel and long time employee of the Kiel Wooden Ware Co., Mr. Warnke was born Jan. 24, 1902, a son of the late Adolph and Minnie Warnke. Following graduation from Kiel High School in 1920, he went to work for the Wooden Ware Co., continuing there ever since. He had been at work in the maintenance department last week. He married Elsie Rehm of New Holstein, Oct. 5, 1929. Mr. Warnke formerly was active in the Kiel Volunteer Fire Department, attaining the rank of assistant chief. He was also former recording secretary of the State Firemen’s Association. Surviving are his wife and a sister, Mrs. Leo Rach, Kiel. ELSIE WARNKE Elsie M. Warnke, 87, of 627 Calumet Ave., Kiel, died Wednesday morning, August 7, 1991, at Calumet Medical Center, in Chilton, where she was a patient for ten days. She is the former Elsie Rehm, born on May 18, 1904, in the town of New Holstein, daughter of the late John and Katherine Trost Rehm. She attended the former Meade School in the town of New Holstein. On October 5, 1929 she married Alfred Warnke. She was employed at the former Kiel Woodenware and at the Kiel Cleaners, until her retirement. Her husband, Alfred, preceded her in death on February 14, 1965. She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel and the Women's Guild. She was a Sunday School Teacher for many years and belonged to the Kiel Senior Citizens. Survivors include one brother, Gilbert Rehm, Kiel; four sisters, Mrs. Rola (Gilbert) Ludwig, New Holstein; Anne Quade, Calumetville; Marielle Feile, Kiel and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Nelda Manz. Funeral services will be held Friday, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel with the Rev. Raymond C. Coombs, pastor, officiating. MINNIE WARNKE Mrs. Adolph Warnke, 77, lifelong resident of Kiel, died at her home, 620 Calumet Drive, early Tuesday afternoon following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church, Kiel, the Rev. E. L. Worthman officiating. Burial will be in the Rockville Cemetery. Mrs. Warnke, the former Minnie Backhaus, was born April 4, 1877, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian Backhaus, pioneer Kiel settlers. She received her education in schools of the city and was married to Adolph Warnke Dec. 26, 1898. He died in October of 1941. Mrs. Warnke was an active member of the church, the church choir, the FrauenVerein and a past member of the Missionary Society. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Leo Rach, and a son, Alfred, of Kiel; a sister, Mrs. Fred Luebke of Two Rivers; and a grandson. ERWIN J. WEISKOPF Erwin J. Weiskopf, 59, of 1207 N. 38th St., Sheboygan, died Wednesday at his home. He had been in ill health for several years. Born on Dec. 21, 1909 at Brookfield, a son of the late Jacob and Louise Mattes Weiskopf. He moved with his family to the Town of Schleswig at an early age and attended the district school at Rockville. On April 15, 1944 he married the former Ellen Schmidtke of the Town of New Holstein. The couple lived in Kiel for several years and then moved to Sheboygan. Mr. Weiskopf was employed at Urban Junior High School in the maintenance department. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Sheboygan, the Kiel Redman Lodge and the 24 Hour Club of the lodge. He also was a former member of the Kiel fire department. Mrs. Weiskopf died last April. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Carl Gutschow of rural Kiel, and three brothers, Elmer and Clarence, both of Kiel, and Herbert of Sheboygan. Weiskopf, 60, of Sheboygan, who died Saturday at her home after being stricken with an apparent heart attack. The Rev. The former Helen Schmidtke, she was born June 19, 1908, in the Town of Eaton, Manitowoc County, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Schmidtke. On April 15, 1944, she was married to Mr. Weiskopf in Kiel. They lived in Kiel for a few years and then moved to Sheboygan. She was employed at Vollrath Company, Sheboygan. LOUISA WEISKOPF Mrs. Louise Weiskopf, 79, of 306 Fremont St., Kiel, died Thursday evening at the home of a son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Gutschow in School Hill. She was born Louise Mattes, in the town of Schleswig, May 11, 1874, a daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Mueller Mattes. After attending Rockville District School she was married to Jacob Weiskopf, town of Schleswig, Oct. 17, 1903. The couple farmed in Schleswig for several years, lived for two years in Mequon, Wis., and since then in Kiel. The husband preceded his wife in death. Mrs. Weiskopf was a member of the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church Frauen Verein and a charter member of the G. U. G. Lodge. Surviving are the daughter, Mrs. Gutschow; four sons, Elmer and Clarence, Kiel, and Erwin and Herbert, Sheboygan; one sister, Miss Emma Mattes, and a brother, Philip Mattes, Kiel; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter and three sisters. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church, Kiel, with Rev. E. L. BRIAN WELCH Brian C. Welch, 30, of Kiel died Saturday morning July 4, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born December 31, 1978 in Manitowoc son of Lynn (Luedtke) Vogel and the late Rodney Welch. Brian was a 1998 graduate of Kiel High School and later received Technical School Training for Auto and small gas engine repair. On June 6, 2009 he married the former Jackie Guthrie at Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church in Plymouth. Brian was a very gifted mechanic, for the past year he was working at his "dream job" as an auto technician at Vogel Chevrolet in Kiel. He was currently a member of Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church in Plymouth and a former member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran in Louis Corners. He was also involved with local antique tractor clubs. In his free time Brian enjoyed working in his shop on projects for Keaton, Brice, friends and for himself. He was a great friend who always had time to help others. He enjoyed going to car and tractor shows, especially Iola. Brian's favorite thing to do was spend time with his family and friends. He was a man of few words, but had a great sense of humor and a tender heart. He was always willing to help others, even during his illness. Survivors include his wife Jackie, Step children; Keaton and Brice, his Mom; Lynn Vogel of Kiel, Stepmom; Liz Welch of Kellnersville, Grandmothers; Ella Luedtke of Reedsville, Kathleen Welch of Cato, Step Brother; Jeremy Duggan of Kellnersville, Step Sisters; Vickie Bryant and Crystal Van De Hey both of Kiel. He was further survived by numerous aunts, uncle, nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. Brian was preceded in death by his dad Rodney Welch and his step dad Herbert Vogel Jr. Funeral services for Brian will be held at 6:00pm on Friday July 10, 2009 at Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church N5990 Country Aire Rd. ALFRED ZILLMANN Death claimed Alfred Zillmann, aged 73, at six o’clock Saturday morning at his farm home in Rockville. Mr. Zillmann had attended the funeral of a friend the day before and appeared in good health. Death came as a shock to his many relatives and friends. Mr. Zillmann was born November 12, 1868 in the town of Rhine, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Zillmann. On February 6, 1931 his wife passed away, who was the former Louise Voland of the town of Schleswig. Survivors are one son, Clarence, on the homestead farm; a daughter, Mrs. Fred (Thekla) Dekker of the town of New Holstein; four grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Anna Ebbert of Colby, and three brothers, Edward of Colby, George of Thorp and William on the homestead. - January 25, 1941 ******** Dies Suddenly At Rockville Home Kiel. — (Special) — Alfred Zillmann, 73, died suddenly of heart attack this morning at 6 o'clock at his home at Rockville. CLARENCE ZILLMANN Clarence W. Zillmann, 79, Rt. 1, Kiel, a retired Town of Schleswig farmer, died Wednesday at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital. He was born August 31, 1896 in the Town of Schleswig, a son of Alfred and Louisa Voland Zillmann. He attended the district school at Rockville and Kiel High School. On Oct. 25, 1924 he married Thiela Kraemer in the Town of Rhine. The couple located on the Zillmann home farm in the Town of Schleswig. They observed their golden wedding in 1974. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel and a former Rockville School District Board member. Survivors include his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Vernetta) Ferguson, Plymouth; two sons, Harold, Aurora, Ill., and Ronald, Thiensville; nine grandchildren; a great grandchild and a sister, Mrs. Fred Dekker, Kiel. Funeral services will be Saturday ata 1:30 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, the Rev. Richard Warnke, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Schleswig Cemetery, Rockville. HERMAN ZILLMANN Herman Zillmann died in Colby on Monday night from a heart failure at the age of 40 years. He was born in Rockville and was a member of the Zillmann Bros. Hardware Firm in Colby for 13 years. He was unmarried and will be laid to rest on Friday afternoon in the Rockville Cemetery. Plymouth Post, March 4, 1911

She had been ill for one year with a complication of diseases. Deceased, whose name was Miss Louise Anna Theresa Voland was the daughter of the late Frederick and Theodora Voland. She was born February 25, 1874, in Thiensville, Ozaukee County, where she grew to womanhood. In 1882 she moved with her parents to Kiel, and on September 21, 1895, she was united in marriage to Alfred Zillmann of Rockville. The young couple then moved on the farm where Mrs. Zillmann passed away. Two children were born of this union. The survivors are the husband, one daughter, Mrs. Thekla Wagner and one son, Clarence both of whom live at the parental home. Two grand- children and the following named sisters and brothers also survive; Mrs. Philip Arnold, Mrs. Charles Raquet, who live near Kiel, Alfred Voland of Louis Corners, William Voland of Garnet, Frederick Voland of Rockville, Oscar Voland of the Town Mosel, Sheboygan County, and Phillip Voland of Milwaukee. Funeral services will be held Monday at the farm home in Rockville, the Rev. E. L. Worthman, pastor of St. Peter Reformed Church of Kiel officiating. THIELA ZILLMANN Mrs. Thiela Zillmann, 83, 22415 Rockville Road, Kiel, died Friday evening at the home of her son, Ronald, at rural Cedarburg, where she had been residing recently. The former Thiela Kraemer, she was born March 4, 1900, in the Town of Greenbush, a daughter of the late Christian and Rosina Pfiefer Kraemer. She attended school at Plymouth. October 25, 1925, she and Clarence Zillmann were married in the town of Rhine. The couple farmed the Zillmann Homestead Farm in the Town of Schleswig. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1974. Mr. Zillmann died in 1976. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel, its Ladies Aid Society, the Kiel Senior Citizens and the Merry Go Round Club of Rockville. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Vernetta) Ferguson, Plymouth; two sons, Harold, Aurora, Illinois, and Ronald, rural Cedarburg; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one brother, Edgar Kraemer, Kohler; three sisters, Mrs. Clara Schuricht, Sheboygan, Mrs. Minnie Henschel, Elkhart lake and Mrs. Elda Bassuener, Plymouth; and one foster sister, Mrs. Mildred Raeder, Elkhart Lake. She was preceded in death by one brother. Funeral services were at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel, with the Reverend Richard Warnke, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Schleswig Cemetery, Rockville. The deceased was the last Zimke of the family tree; her husband Karl Zimke caused his death by hanging about 8 years ago as a result of delirium tremens. Karl, their only son, was killed by a horse. MARGARETHA ZIMMERMANN (From the correspondent in Kiel, 08 Oct.) Burial last Sat. in Rockville of Mrs. Adam Zimmermann. She came to Town Schleswig about 30 yrs. ago with her husband Gerhard Guhr. Mr. Guhr died about 15 yrs. ago, and she married Adam Zimmermann, who himself went to his eternal slumber within the year. ANNA ZORN Anna nee Profatz (July 4, 1870-Feb. 23, 1956 wife of Otto Zorn [married July 4, 1895 at Kiel, Town of Schleswig Otto and Anna ran a farm in Town of Meeme until 1941 -Otto died in 1951] daughter of Fredolin Profatz and Stephania Fessler -born Town of Liberty died from "arteriosclerotic heart disease") (from church records at St. Gregory, St. Nazianz) ******** Mrs. Anna Zorn, 83, died Thursday afternoon at the Holy Family Hospital at Manitowoc. She was married to Otto Zorn in Chicago and the couple lived there for a number of years, then moved to a farm about three miles south of St. Nazianz, and when retired, moved to St. Nazianz and lived in the village about 15 years. The couple celebrated their golden wedding in 1949 on July 4. Zorn died Sept. 2, 1951. Mrs. Zorn was born in Town of Liberty. Mrs. Zorn’s maiden name was Miss Anna Profatz. OTTO ZORN Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today at the Meiselwitz Funeral home, Kiel, for Otto Zorn, 80, of St. Nazianz, who passed away early Saturday afternoon at the Holy Family hospital, Manitowoc, following a short illness. The Rev. Theophil F. Uetzmann, pastor of the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran church, of Manitowoc, officiated, and burial was made in Rockville Cemetery. The deceased was born April 19, 1871, in the town of Schleswig, the son of Frank and Elizabeth Zorn. On July 4, 1895, he was married to Miss Anna Profatz of the town of Meeme. They marked their golden anniversary in 1945. Following their marriage they lived in Kiel for two years. Then moved to Chicago where they resided for 20 years. He later operated a farm in the town of Meeme, and for the past 15 years has lived at St. Nazianz. Since 1942 he has been health officer for the town of Eden. Survivors include his wife; two brothers, Louis of Lena, Wis., and Frank of Portland, Ore,; and two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Hein of Sobieski, Wis., and Mrs. Emilie Morgans of Detroit Mich.
