PETER P. BRAKER Two Rivers Man Found in Quarry Peter Braker, 51, former Two Rivers resident, who apparently had been clubbed to death, was found Sunday floating in a quarry pond at Rockfield Wis., where he had been employed as a cannery foreman. He had been missing since Nov. 10. Coroner Raymond Frankow, of Washington county, announced that an inquest would be held. Ben Nebrass, companion of Braker on the night he was reported missing, said that he had walked part way home with Braker shortly before midnight and that was the last he saw of him. There was about $2 in Braker's pockets and his watch had stopped at 1:55 a.m. Robbery is being considered as the motive for the murder as Nebrass reported that Braker had between $20 and $25 with him when the two started home. He was born in 1893 in the town of Kossuth, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Braker, and he came to Two Rivers with his parents in 1896. He attended Two Rivers public schools and worked at the old Schultz livery barn after he left school. About 20 years ago he moved to Rockfield where he started working for a canning firm there. He last visited Two Rivers in 1939 when they settled his father's estate. William Braker of Two Rivers, a brother, is the only immediate survivor. Manitowoc Herald Times, April 2, 1945 P.2 ******* Plan Inquest in Braker's Death An inquest into the death of Peter Braker, 51, former Two Rivers resident whose body was found Sunday in a quarry swamp near West Bend, will be held in a day or two, Jerry Otten, Washington county district attorney said today. A coroner's jury viewed the body yesterday. Otten said no new clues had been found. Braker was dead before the body entered the water. Dr. Raymond Frankow, coroner said. Private funeral services for Braker were held today at Two Rivers. Burial was in Holy Cross cemetery. Braker, a foreman at the Rockfield Canning company had been missing since Nov. 9. Recovery of the body revealed he had been clubbed to death. About 25 German prisoners of war were working at the cannery last November, but officers of the camp said they were not under Braker's orders. He was foreman for civilians in the department, but orders to the prisoners came through their guards. Rumors of "trouble" between Braker and the prisoners could not be substantiated, according to Rockfield officials and officers of the camp. He was born on May 19, 1924 in Pulaski, Wisconsin to August and Angeline (Kasprzyk) Brylski. He attended Assumption BVM grade school in Pulaski and St. Bonaventure High School in Sturtevant, WI. Soon after graduation in 1942, he enlisted in the US Army and served with the Army Signal Corps during WWII in England and Norway. After the war he began a printing apprenticeship at the Franciscan Monastery in Pulaski and eventually opened his own print shop. When the print shop proved less than lucrative, he took that printing knowledge with him to the Hamilton Mfg Co. in Two Rivers where he worked in the wood type shop the entirety of his Hamilton career. He loved his solitary drives out west, Rachel Maddow was his girlfriend, and his computer provided never-ending sources of amusement such as solitaire, music, online stock trading, and connections via Skype and Facebook to the world at large. He also loved when his family came to visit but was always happy when they went away. After retirement, he was a longtime volunteer at Peter's Pantry in Manitowoc and the Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum in Two Rivers where he found this mysterious group of type nerds who were totally awed by his wood type making expertise. ANTON BUGLER (d. 1924) FARMER HANGS SELF ON WEDNESDAY MORNING Wednesday forenoon, Anton Bugler, a farmer living on the Mishicot road, hanged himself in the ice house on the property of the Two Rivers Fox Co. The body was discovered by the man's twelve year old son, who, with his cousin, a visitor, was seeking his father. Mr. Bugler came into the house during a shower and declared his intention of lying down in the barn. It was suggested that he remain in the house but he persisted, and the last that was seen of him, he took his coat and left the house. This was during the forenoon. Dinner time came, and when Mr. Bugler did not return, a search was begun. It was thought that he might have lain down in the barn and fallen asleep. Accordingly, the barn was scoured thoroughly. This search proving unavailing, Mrs. Bugler sent her twelve year old son, and a little girl, his cousin, to look for her husband about the fox enclosures. Mr. Bugler was employed taking care of the animals, but as it was not feeding time, little belief was entertained that he might actually be there. The two children entered the ice house at 2:30 p.m. in the course of their search and were confronted by the sight of the man, hanging from the beams, and by that time quite dead. A physician was summoned, and he, with the help of men who arrived soon, removed the body. Mr. Bugler was in good health physically, but was of a highly nervous temperament and was much given to worry. He resided in Two Rivers for some time, but then returned to the farm which occupation he had left to go to town. He wished to sell his farm, and had but recently declared his intention of so doing. Deceased was born at the old home on the Tannery Road and lived in this vicinity all his life. He was 52 years of age. He is survived by his widow, and by three sons, Edward, 29 years of age, Anton, 27 years of age, and Albert, age 12. Besides these he leaves three brothers, Charles and John Bugler of this vicinity, and Joseph of Warner, Alberta, Canada. There are also five sisters surviving. Funeral arrangements have not been made. Two Rivers Reporter, Two Rivers, WI., July 11, 1924 Sent in by a researcher/see contributors page. ******* (Anton Bugler, b.04 Jul 1873, d.06 Jul 1924)
