Forward: This is about the patriarchs These photos include the immigrant patriarch and matriarch of the Ellingboe family, Christopher (1801-1879)and Berit Ellingbøe (1807-1897), who left Norway in 1852 to settle in Wisconsin. They are buried in the Jambo Creek Cemetery. They brought with them 5 children - Helge, Anne, Randi, Anders, and Gulbrand. Also in 1852, Knud Thompson (Sandness) (1829-1929) and Anne Torgeirsdatter Strande (1819-1889) arrived with two children. Knud and Anne are buried in the Jambo Creek Cemetery. There is some confusion in the information on the Web site regarding the inscription on the gravestone of both Knud and Anne Thompson. "HUSTRUTIL " means "wife of". A separate entry for Anne based on Jambo Creek Church records is mistakenly read as 7 Dec. 1889, whereas it should be 1 Dec. 1889 and the age should be 71, not 78 (I have a copy of the records). This is the same as the information on the stone, i.e., not a separate person. Knud is listed in the Jambo Creek Church burial records as "Knud Sandness". The Thompson (Sandness) family survived the sinking of the steamship Atlantic in Lake Erie on their way to Wisconsin. Five more children were born to them in Wisconsin. Knud's brother Tosten had immigrated in 1849, via Wisconsin, to Decorah, Iowa. Knud Thompson served in the Civil War. The Ellingboe family came from "Nordigarden Ellingbøe" in Vang i Valdres. I have visited this farm many times and keep in touch with Norwegian relatives. The Thompson (Sandness) family came from the adjoining county of East Slidre. Last year I visited the ruins of the house on the farm Sannes (Sandness) on Windingstad where they lived in before leaving Norway. Notes for Anne Torgeirsdotter STRANDE The farm name Tüf was found in the birth record of her daughter Ingeborg. From Strande, N. Jørstad, Ø. Slidre, Norway. Immigrated with husband and two children 1852 Family was on steamship Atlantic when it sank in Lake Erie in 1852. It is not certain that Torgier Torgiersson and Anne Knutsdotter Strande were the parents of Anne Torgiersdotter Strande, but the probability is very good considering the family connections, etc. More research must be done to confirm or reject this connection. According to Ø. Slidre B, Torgeir married Kirsti Andersdotter Rebne. Was this a second marriage? Sources Marriage was listed in Øystre Slidre Kirkebok, 1849-1874. Vol 1, p. 171. Located at Statsarkivet Hamar. She was listed as Anne Torgersdatter, 22 years of age, daughter of Torger Torgersen. Place of birth was illegible, but included Strande. Notes for Ingeborg Knutsdotter Immigrated with parents and siblings in 1852. Family was on the steamship Atlantic when it was sunk in Lake Erie in 1852; all survived. Sources 1. Birth Records Ø.
