BERNARD HIBBARD Bernard R. Hibbard, 68, of Menasha Avenue, Manitowoc, died Saturday evening at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc, with the Veterans of Foreign Wars in charge and also conducting military rites at graveside. Burial will be in Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Town of Kossuth. Mr. Hibbard was born Oct. 24, 1895, at Glenmore, Brown County, son of the late Andrew and Louise Van Haren Hibbard. He married the former Florence Leyanna May 18, 1920, at Sawyer, Wis. They moved to Manitowoc where he was construction superintendent in the building industry, retiring in 1962. He was a veteran of World War I, serving from May 20, 1917, to May 19, 1919, in Battery 121 of the field artillery as a private first class. He was a member of Verterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 659 and Eagles Aerie No. 706. Surviving are his wife; a son, four daughters, four brothers, George Hibbard of Kaukauna, Jerome Hibbard of Manitowoc, Ray Hibbard of Phoenix, Ariz., and Joseph Hibbard of rural Newton; two sisters, Mrs. George Krieser of Manitowoc and Mrs. Norbert Dahl of Pontiac, Mich.; nine grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. DOROTHY MARY HIBBARD cemetery #43 Our beloved mother, Dorothy Mary Hibbard, age 79, of Manitowoc, loved roses and flowers. Jesus invited mom to walk with Him in His beautiful rose garden on August 16, 2008 after she passed away at home. A garden without any weeds, just love and kindness for one another. She was born April 10, 1929 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Joseph F. and Elsie (Augustine) Ahl. On July 12, 1947 she married Harold Hibbard at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alverno. Survivors include her husband: Harold Hibbard, Shawano; three daughters and two sons-in-law, five sons and daughters-in-law, 20 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, five sisters and three brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, special friends, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. EMMA HIBBERT cemetery #44 Mrs. Emma B. Hibbert, 73, of Seven North Lake Rd., Ironwood, Mich., died Tuesday at home. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Jens Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. William Harvey will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mrs. Hibbert, nee Emma Braunel, was born Jan. 30, 1900, at Manitowoc, daughter of the late Hiriam and Ida Winkie Braunel. Following her schooling, she had resided at Ironwood since 1924 and was owner and operator of a florist shop at Ironwood. She was a member of the Transfiguration Church at Ironwood, St. Mary Guild and Altar Guild, Wisconsin and Upper Peninsula floral Assn. and the Michigan State Flower Assn. Survivors include a son, a daughter, a sister, Mrs. Ida Herpst, of Milwaukee and four grandchildren. A brother and two sisters preceded her in death. JEAN MARIE HICKMAN cemetery #57 Graveside services for Jean Marie Hickmann(sic), infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arno Hickmann of School Hill, were held Saturday afternoon at Holy Trinity Catholic Church Cemetery in School Hill. The Rev. H. G. Messmer, pastor, officiated. The day-old infant died Friday at Manitowoc Memorial Hospital. Besides her parents, she is survived by a brother, two sisters, a paternal grandfather, Philip Hickmann, rural Kiel; and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Knier of R. 1, Newton. PHILIP HICKMAN cemetery #58 Philip Hickman, 87, of School Hill, died Monday at his home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bethlehem Untied Church of Christ, Schleswig. The Rev. Carl Fried will officiate and burial will be in the Meeme Center Cemtery. Mr. Hickman was born Aug. 7, 1880, in the Town of Meeme, son of the late Philip and Theresa Meyer Hickman, and on May 1, 1920, married Mary Koeser of the Town of Meeme at Bethel United Church of Christ. The couple located at School Hill, where he engaged in the painting profession. Survivors include the wife; a daughter, Mrs. Henry (Mabel) Plageman, of Rt. 1, Newton; two sons, Edward of Casa Grande, Ariz., and Arno of Rt. 1, Kiel; a sister, Mrs. Mary Kalk, of Rt. 1, Sheboygan, and nine grandchildren. CLARA HICKMANN cemetery #86 Mrs. Clara Hickmann, 67, of 732 Sixth St., Kiel, was found dead at 5:30 am, Sunday on the sidewalk approach to her home. Manitowoc County Coroner Dr. Theodore A. Teitgen attributed her death to exposure and a heart attack. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, the Rev. Carl Fried officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Town of Schleswig. The former Clara Koeser was born Aug. 25, 1896, in the Town of Meeme, daughter of the late Carl and Mary Maurer Koeser. She was educated in the Meeme district school. She was married to George Hickmann of the Town of Meeme Oct. 3, 1914. The couple farmed in Meeme township. Her husband died in December, 1950, and she had been living in Kiel the past several years. Surviving are five sons, a daughter, a brother, Wil1iam Koeser of School Hill; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Karsteadt and Mrs. Phihlip Hickmann of School Hill; 19 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Besides her husband, a son and three brothers preceded her in death. - Dec. 22, 1963 ******* Mrs. Clara Hickmann, age 67, 732 Sixth Street, Kiel, died on the sidewalk leading to her apartment early Sunday morning. Manitowoc County Coroner, Dr. Theodore A. Teitgen, attributed death of a coronary occlusion and exposure. Her son, Raymond, told authorities that his mother was not home when he went to bed. He thought he heard her car sometime later. When she was not in house at 5:30 when he awoke, he investigated and found her body near the porch on the sidewalk. She was born August 25, 1896 in the town of Meeme, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Koeser. October 3, 1914 she married George Hickmann and the couple farmed in the Town of Meeme. Mr. Hickmann died in 1950. Mrs. Hickmann has been living in Kiel the past year. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Milton Meyer, Route 1, Newton; five sons, Alfred, Manitowoc, Norman, Route 1 Kiel, Raymond, Kiel, Ralph and Leander, Route 2, Kiel; 19 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Karstaedt and Mrs. Philip Hickman, School Hill; and one brother, William, School Hill. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Meiselwitz Funeral home. Rev. Carl Fried will officiate. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery. December 22, 1963


THERESA HICKMANN cemetery #57 Mrs. Theresa Hickmann passed away on Tuesday afternoon at 8 o'clock, at the home of her son George, in the town of Meeme, death being due to kidney trouble. Decedent, nee Meyer, was born in the town of Meeme, March 8, 1857, and was married to Ph. Hickmann in 1878, after which the couple settled on a farm in that town. Mr. Hickmann preceded his wife in death 38 years ago. The survivors are one daughter, Francis, of Thorp, and three sons, George and Philip at home, and Joseph of Eau Claire. Also two brothers, Joseph and George Meyer, and one sister, Mrs. Wagner, all of Thorp. The funeral services will take place at St. Fidelis church in School Hill, on Friday morning, with interment in the church cemetery. - 1922

ERNIS HILDEBRAND cemetery #89D CHILD DIES, AFTER EATING PILLS FOR CANDY TWO RIVERS, July 18 - Irvin Hildebrand, aged 3, son of Andrew Hildebrand of Route 3, Two Rivers died on Monday after eating pills he found in the home. The father of the child was at work in the barn when the little fellow came running to him. The child was in agony and could not speak. The father attempted to revive him by giving him milk and water but the little fellow could not swallow and Dr. Farrell was summoned. Later the child was taken to the doctor's office where everything possible was done to save his life, but the strong drug contained in the pills had poisoned the child and he died at nine o'clock. The unfortunate little boy is survived by his parents, six brothers and four sisters, the oldest being 19 and the youngest 2 years. The funeral will be held Thursday from St. Luke's church. MARGARET HILDEBRAND cemetery #21 MARGARET HILLEBRAND(sic) DIES AT HOME THIS MORNING Rites For Mrs. Hillebrand To Be Held Tuesday Mrs. Margaret Hillebrand, 68, died today at the home in the village of St. Nazianz. She was taken ill a week ago and early this morning suffered a stroke. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., from the St. Gregory's Catholic church, St. Nazianz, with interment in the adjoining cemetery. Born in Sheboygan Mrs. Hillebrand was born in Sheboygan in 1868. Her maiden name was Margaret Schnettler. In 1885 she married Charles Hillebrand and they resided for three years at Hartington, Neb. They returned to locate at St. Nazianz where Mr. Hillebrand, who died several years ago, established a cobbler's shop. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Joseph Stein, Sheboygan; Mrs. Philip Henry, Sheboygan Falls; six sons, John, Cross Plains, Wis.; Peter, Mauston, Wis.; Charles, William, Herbert, all of Mishawaka, Ind.; Edmund, St. Nazianz; two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Biskabing, Plymouth, Wis.; Mrs. Frank Kutz, Milwaukee; two brothers, Nicholas and Joseph, both of St. Nazianz, and 26 grandchildren. Mrs. Hillebrand was a member of the Christian Mothers and the Third Order of St. Frances. The Christian Mothers will attend the funeral Tuesday in a body and meet at the home Monday at 8 p.m. to say the rosary. The body is at the Hillebrand home. Mrs. Hillebrand was born at Sheboygan, in October, 1868, and at the age of one year her parents moved to this village. In 1885 she was married to Carl Hillebrand, who preceded her in death 4 years ago. Mrs. Hillebrand's maiden name was Margaret Schnettler. The deceased is survived by the following eight children, namely; Mrs. Joseph (Regina) Stein of Sheboygan, Mrs. Philip (Irene) Henry of Sheboygan Falls, John Hillebrand of Cross Plains, Peter Hillebrand of Mauston, Charles Hillebrand of Mishawaka, Indiana, and William, Herbert and Edmund at home. Also two brothers, Nic. and Joseph Schnettler of here, two sisters - Mrs. Katherine Biskabing of Plymouth and Mrs. Frank Kutz of Milwaukee, and 26 grandchildren survive her. She was a member of the Christian Mothers Society. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 9:30 o'clock from St. Gregory's Catholic church, with the Rev. Fintan Holzknecht officiating. ANNA HILDEBRANDT cemetery #82 Mrs. Anna Hildebrandt, 73, a former resident of Kiel, died unexpectedly of a heart attack at her home at 2322 Prospect St., New Holstein, early Saturday afternoon. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, the Rev. E. L. Worthman, former pastor of the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church, Kiel, officiating. Burial will be in the Kiel Cemetery. She was born Oct. 6, 1883, at Elkhart Lake, daughter of the late Henry and Ann Bartles Wittrock, and moved to Kiel with her parents when she was a child. She was educated in Kiel schools. On April 18, 1907, she was married to Reinhold Hildebrandt and the couple lived in Kiel until 1918, moving to New Holstein where her husband was employed in industry. He died in July of 1949. Survivors include a son, Lester of New Holstein; two sisters, Mrs. Edward Krostag Sr. and Mrs. Lena Jochmann of Kiel; and a brother, Henry of Kiel. ANNA HILDEBRANDT cemetery #82 Mrs. Anna Hildebrandt, 86, formerly of 2120 Broadway St., New Holstein, died Tuesday afternoon at the Willowdale Nursing Home, New Holstein, where she had been a resident since 1971. The former Anna Drews, she was born in Kiel on April 30, 1889, a daughter of the late Julius and Mary Gruendemann Drews. On May 28, 1910, she married Richard F. Hildebrandt in Kiel. He died Feb. 24, 1965. The couple made their home in New Holstein since their marriage. Surviving are one son, Frederick, Chilton; one daughter, Mrs. Emmett (Irene) Wagner of R. 1, Malone; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, one brother and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Erbe-Evjen Funeral Home, New Holstein, with the Rev. Albert K. HENRIETTA HILDEBRANDT Mrs. Paul Hildebrandt, 87, of 912 Fourth St., Kiel, died at her home early today. The former Henrietta Haarmann, she was born March 10, 1872, in the Town of Centerville, a daughter of the late Frederick and Maria Haarmann. At the age of 5, her parents moved to a farm in the Town of Russell. On April 8, 1901, she was married at St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reformed Church in the Town of Russell. The couple operated the Haarmann home farm in the town until 1927 when they moved to Kiel. Mrs. Hildebrandt was a member of St. Paul’s Church and also belonged to its Ladies Aid Society. The couple observed their 55th wedding anniversary in 1956. Survivors are her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Elmer (Meta) Brickbauer of Kiel; two sons, Oscar of Town of Rhine, Hugo of New Holstein; five grandchildren and four great-grandsons. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, five brothers and three sisters. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul’s Church in the Town of Russell. The Rev. LESTER A. HILDEBRANDT cemetery #82 Lester A. Hildebrandt, 62, of 2113 Railroad St., New Holstein, died Wednesday at Veterans Administration Hospital, Tomah. He had been a patient there since November. He was born July 24, 1909 at Kiel, son of the late Reinhold and Anna Wittrock Hildebrandt. As a youth he moved to New Holstein with his parents, where he attended public school. Mr. Hildebrandt served with the U.S. Army in World War II in the European and African sectors. He was employed at the Lauson Co., New Holstein; Kiel Wooden Ware Co., and Silver Moon processors, New Holstein. Mr. Hildebrandt was a member of the New Holstein American Legion Post 124. Survivors are aunts, an uncle and cousins. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, with the Rev. John F. MINNIE HILDEBRANDT cemetery #82 Mrs. Otto Hildebrandt, 75, of 716 6th St., Kiel, died suddenly Sunday in Los Angeles, Calif. She had been visiting her brother, Hugo Prueter, and his family for several weeks. The former Minnie Prueter, she was born July 3, 1891, in the Town of Schleswig, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Herman Prueter, and was married May 21, 1915, to Otto E. Hildebrandt. He died in January, 1965. She was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel; the Frauenverein of the church, the Kiel Garden Club and the General Arts Homemaker Club. Surviving are two brothers, Arthur of Green Bay, and Hugo of Anaheim, Calif. - January 8, 1967


OTTO E. HILDEBRANDT cemetery #82 Funeral services for Otto E. Hildebrandt, 75, who died Saturday morning at Calumet Hospital in Chilton, are scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel. The Rev. Vernon E. Jaberg will officiate at Tuesday's services and burial will be in Kiel Cemetery. Friends may call at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home until 11 a.m. Tuesday and at the church, from noon until time of services. Hospitalized for about a week, Mr. Hildebrandt resided at 716 6th St., Kiel. He was born Oct. 7, 1889, in Germany, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hildebrandt. At the age of four, he came to the United States with his parents, coming directly to Kiel, where he attended the public school. His marriage to Minnie Preuter, Town of Schleswig, took place on May 21, 1915. The couple located in Kiel. For 16 years he served as custodian of Kiel Public School and later was employed by H. G. Weber Co., Kiel, until his retirement nine years ago. He was a member of St. Peter's UCC, Kiel. Besides his wife, he is survived by one brother, Richard of New Holstein.


PAUL HILDEBRANDT cemetery #82 Paul Hildebrandt, 83, of 912 4th St., Kiel, died at Calumet Memorial Hospital late Monday morning. His death followed by less than a month the death of his wife, Henrietta, who passed away May 9. Mr. Hildebrandt was born in Germany June 10, 1874, a son of Carl and Adeline Palleck Hildebrandt, and came to this country with his parents when he was 20 years old. The family settled at Kiel. On April 8, 1901, Mr. Hildebrandt was married to Henrietta Haarmann of the Town of Russell at St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reformed Church in the township. They operated the Haarmann homestead farm in the Town of Russell until 1927 when they moved to Kiel. Mr. Hildebrandt was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reformed Church. He leaves two sons, Oscar, Town of Rhine, and Hugo, of New Holstein; a daughter, Mrs. Elmer (Meta) Brickbauer, Kiel; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard of New Holstein, and Otto of Kiel, and one sister, Mrs. Bertha Koepp, Niles, Mich. An infant son, two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Church in the Town of Russell at 2 p.m. Thursday, the Rev. Milton J. Kading, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Kiel Cemetery. REINHOLD W. HILDEBRANDT cemetery #82 Reinhold William Hildebrandt, 66, of New Holstein, died at his home this morning after a heart attack. A native of Stolp, Germany, he was born March 16, 1883, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hildebrandt, and came to the United States with his parents when he was 11 years old. The family settled in Kiel, and Mr. Hildebrandt was confirmed at the Reformed church there on April 3, 1898, by the Rev. John Roeck. He was married to Anna Wittrock, of Kiel, April 18, 1907. Survivors are the wife; one son, Lester, at home; three brothers, Richard of New Holstein, Paul and Otto of Kiel; and one sister, Mrs. Otto Koepp, of Wauwatosa. Two sons, one brother, Herman, and two sisters, Mrs. Richard Mueller and Mrs. Herman Temreck, preceded Mr. Hildebrandt in death. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Meiselwitz Funeral home in Kiel, the Rev. E. L. Worthman officiating, and burial will be in the Kiel cemetery. RICHARD HILDEBRANDT cemetery #82 Richard F. Hildebrandt, 78, of 2120 Broadway, New Holstein, died unexpectedly of a heart attack at his home at 8:30 a.m. today. Mr. Hildebrandt, a resident of New Holstein for 50 years, had been a machinist for 60 years, most of the time with the former Lawson Engine Co., and more recently with the Lawson division of Tecumseh Products Co. A native of Germany, he was born April 6, 1886, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hildebrandt. He came to this country with his parents when a child of 6 years. He married Annie Drews at Kiel, May 28, 1910. He was a member of the International Machinists Union. Surviving are his wife; a son, Fred, Chilton; two daughters, Mrs. Robert Schwalenberg (Adeline) and Mrs. Irene Haney, New Holstein; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Erbe-Hoffmann Funeral Home, New Holstein, with the Rev. Charles A. Koch, pastor of St. John’s United Church of Christ, officiating. MARSHALL D. HILL cemetery #44 Marshall D. Hill, 83, of 1235 Arlington Ave., Manitowoc, died Sunday evening at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. He was a navy musician in World War I from April, 1918 to January, 1919. He was a member of Manitowoc Marine Band and American Legion Band. He preceded her in death Nov. 28, 1938. She resided in Collins until her marriage to William Hills at Manitowoc in August of 1942. He preceded her in death Dec. 9, 1957. Mrs. Hills was a member of the St. Ann Society of the church. CARL HIMMELBAUER cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 03 Sep. 1903: Death Sat. morning, following a long illness, of Carl Himmelbauer, better known under the name of Carl Bauer. The deceased was born 31 yrs. ago in Terre Haute, Indiana, and was a son of former local resident and cigar manufacturer Himmelbauer and his wife Ida (nee Esslinger). When he grew up he dedicated himself to the stage and worked many years as a member of theatrical touring companies. He spent his youth here in the family of his uncle, Henry Burger. For a few years he was a partner in the firm of Theodor Schmidtmann's Sons & Co. He made a trip to the south early last year but fell ill during the trip and was brought to Terre Haute to the residence of his sister there. In June he moved back here to the home of his above named uncle. It was determined that his consumption could not be cured. He leaves 2 brothers and 2 sisters. The funeral was held Mon. afternoon.


HATTIE E. HINDT cemetery #33 Hattie E. Hindt, age 87, formerly of Two Rivers, died early Sunday morning, Nov. 16, 2003 at the Manitowoc Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. David Scherbarth with burial at Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Hwy. 310, Manitowoc. Hattie was born March 16, 1916 in Price County, Wisconsin, daughter of the late William and Louise Tiegs Kusch. On July 31, 1948, she married Robert Hindt in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on Oct. 11, 1991. Hattie was employed at Hamilton Manufacturing Company, Schwartz Manufacturing Company and Paragon Electric Company. Hattie and her husband owned and operated the Round Up Bar in Mishicot for 18 years. She was well known for her Friday night fish fries. LUDWIG HINDT (LOUIS) cemetery #89A The Chronicle, Two Rivers, Wisconsin, Tuesday, July 17, 1900 DIED HINDT At Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc July 9, 1900, Louis Hindt Aged 36 Years Deceased was for several years prior to his death a resident of this city and was an employee of the Hamilton Manufacturing Company. About two years ago he was injured by an accident at the Hamilton works, which for a time, it was thought would cost him his life, but after months of confinement he finally able to resume work again, though he was not free from pain until relieved by death. He was taken to the Hospital at Manitowoc about a week before he died to be operated upon for appendicitis and though the operation was successfully performed his physical condition was not equal to the shock. He leaves a wife and four small children in rather destitute circumstances. His funeral took place last Wednesday from the German Lutheran church in this city. ADOLPH HINGISS cemetery #82 Former Mayor Dies at Age of 84; Long Active in Business Death came to Adolph Hingiss Saturday at a convalescent home in Sheboygan, where he had been a patient for a few weeks. He reached the age of 84. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church with the Rev. E. L. Worthman in charge. Burial was made in the Kiel cemetery. Mr. Hingiss was a member of the congregation and also of the Churchman’s Brotherhood. Pallbearers were William, Edward and Henry Hingiss, Edgar Jacobi and Reuben and Alfred Fischer, all nephews of the deceased. Mr. Hingiss was very active in the civic life of the city, serving as mayor from 1929 to 1939. It was during his mayoralty that many of Kiel’s streets and alleys were paved, and he was instrumental in securing land along the Sheboygan river to be made into a park area. He served as alderman from 1927 to 1929 and also represented Kiel on the county board for a few terms. He was a charter member of the Kiel Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Hingiss was born in Centerville in 1868 and in 1891 married Miss Augusta Fischer. They located on the homestead farm near Cleveland and in 1914 moved to Kiel. He opened a garage and also engaged in the farm implement business, which he operated until 1922 when he rented it to his son, August, and son-in-law, Ben Bessler, and engaged in the real estate business until 1929. In 1930 he returned to the garage business and formed the corporation of Hingiss and Bessler Company, which expanded from Kiel to Chilton and Hilbert. He retired from active business in 1936. Mrs. and Mrs. Hingiss observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1941. Mrs. Hingiss died in 1948. Survivors are three sons, August, and Richard of Chilton and Alfred of Kiel; three daughters, Mrs. Ben Bessler of Kiel, Mrs. Hugo Sommers of Madison, and Mrs. Lewis Towers of Mishicot; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Mr. Hingiss is also survived by a sister and two brothers. The sister is Mrs. Mary Brock of Crete, Illinois. One brother, Fred, who is 80 years of age and lives at Cleveland was here for the services. The other brother is Ferdinand, 93, who lives at Wisconsin Dells No newspaper named, January 10, 1953

AUGUSTA HINGISS cemetery #82 The passing of Mrs. Adolph Hingiss, aged 77, was a shock to the citizens of Kiel Saturday morning, when news of her death circulated in the community. She had suffered a stroke a few days previously, and passed away at her home early Saturday morning. The deceased, nee Augusta Fischer, was born in the town of Centerville March 25, 1871. She was married to Adolph Hingiss on April 14, 1891, and the couple settled on a farm in the town of Centerville. In 1914 the family moved to Kiel, where Mr. Hingiss built a garage and went into business. She has been very active in the Frauenverein of the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church. Survivors are her husband; three daughters. Mrs. Ben A (Linda) Bessler of this city, Mrs. Hugo H. (Emma) Sommers of Madison, Mrs. L. N. (Esther) Towers of Elgin, Ill.; three sons; August and Richard of Chilton, and Alfred in this city; two sisters, Mrs. Theresa Goeters, and Mrs. William Meyer of Sheboygan; two brothers, William and August Fischer of Cleveland; 11 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. One son and three sisters have preceded her in death. Funeral services were held this Tuesday at the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church, with Rev. E. L. Worthman officiating. Burial was made in the Kiel cemetery. Pallbearers were nephews of the departed Mrs. Hingiss, namely; William Trowig, Rueben Fischer, Alfred Fischer, Frank O’Neil, Edgar Jacobi and August Goeters. FRIEDRICH E. HINGISS cemetery #14 From Der Nord Westen, 24 Sept. 1908: Death 17 September in Town Centerville of Friedrich Ehrgott Hingiss as a result of brain damage suffered in a fall. The deceased, who was 82 yrs. 3 mos. 12 days of age, came from his Saxony homeland in 1850 and settled in Centerville. He is survived by several children. His funeral was held Saturday last week at the Saxon cemetery in Centerville.


FRED HINRICHS cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 21 July 1904: There was general sorrow in our city on Sun. when news arrived of the death of Fritz Hinrichs. As is generally known, Mr. Hinrichs had a foot terribly mutilated several years ago in a hunting accident. Doctors recommended an amputation of the big toe, following which the wound still failed to heal so 2 more toes had to be amputated. The wound still wouldn’t heal and as a result of the last operation, Mr. Hinrichs had to be cared for in the local Holy Family Hospital and the doctors recommended a complete amputation. Mr. Hinrichs went to Milwaukee to consult specialists who also expressed the opinion that a full amputation was necessary, so he underwent the operation Thurs. morning in Passavant Hospital in Milwaukee. It appeared that the patient was saved, but death intervened Sun. morning. Fritz Hinrichs was born 53 yrs. ago in Esens, East-Friesland. After leaving school he studied pharmacy and served in the military as a one-year volunteer in France where he then worked for several years in a large perfume store. In 1878 he came to America as a representative of that company. He lived in several states and in the winter of 1882-83 came to Manitowoc and began working in the drugstore of his brother, Henry Hinrichs. Since then he remained a resident of Manitowoc. He was widely known as a capable pharmacist. During Pres. Cleveland’s 2nd term, he filled the office of Duty Collector in the local port. He was a member of the local Free Mason’s Lodge and of the Order of the Royal League. He is survived by his sorrowing mother, 4 brothers, 3 sisters and 2 step-sisters. Of the 4 brothers, 3 are residents in America, namely Henry here, Theodor in Baltimore, and Wilhelm in Milwaukee. Another brother who had lived in St. Paul died last winter. The deceased never married. CATHERINE HINTZ cemetery #50 Mrs. Catherine Hintz, 66, died this morning at her home in Reedsville after a lingering illness. Born Catherine Morrisey in Maple Grove in 1872 she was married to Charles Hintz in 1900. Mr. Hintz was a carpenter in Reedsville for many years and died 15 years ago. Mrs. Hintz taught school in the county for several years prior to her marriage. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Paul Engel, Brillion, Louise, Reedsville; son, Charles, Reedsville; brother, Prof. Gough Morrisey, Chilton; and one grandchild. REUBEN A. HINTZ cemetery #10 Reuben A. Hintz, 58, of 360 Lincoln St., Cleveland, died Wednesday morning at home following a lingering illness. GOTTLIEB HINTZE cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 30 May 1901: Gottlieb Hintze of Manitowoc Rapids has died following a long illness. He was born in Wesel in Mar. 1828, and came to America as a young man. In 1847 he came to Manitowoc Rapids and worked 2 yrs. as a cabinet-maker and then returned to Germany to get married. With his young wife he returned to Manitowoc Rapids and became one of the most eminent residents of that town, being elected to several offices. For several years he filled the office of County Supervisor. Mr. Hintze, a brother of Mrs. H. Drost here, is survived by one son and 2 daughters. His funeral was held Sun. afternoon in the city cemetery. The Rev. D.C. Jones from the local Presbyterian Church delivered the funeral sermon, and Mr. Fritz Heinemann of Appleton delivered the German funeral oration.


MATHILDA HINTZE cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 26 Oct. 1899: Miss Mathilde Hintz of Manitowoc Rapids was found dead Fri. evening. She had been subject to falling with epileptic seizures. On Sun. she had gone to her bedroom early. Shortly afterwards a family member found her lifeless on the floor of her room. She was 45 and had suffered from epileptic seizures for the past 14 years.


ALBERT HINZ cemetery #82 Albert Richard Hinz, 59, died suddenly early today at his home, 1003 Seventh street, Kiel. He had been in ill health for the past two months. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hinz, the deceased was born May 7, 1889, in the town of Rantoul. He was married to Marie Ortlett of Rantoul township at Trinity Lutheran church, Kiel, on May 4, 1915. Until three years ago when the couple moved to Kiel to make their home, Mr. Hinz operated a number of pea factories in Calumet county. Since 1945 he was employed at the Stoelting Brothers company plant at Kiel. Survivors are the widow; one daughter, Marion, at home; two sons, Elmer, Mt. Calvary, and Melvin, Random Lake; four brothers, Emil and Carl, Town Rantoul, and Richard and Gerhard, Appleton, and four sisters, Mrs. August Schroeder and Mrs. George Schroeder, Chilton, Mrs. Henry Luedke, Cato, Wis., and Mrs. Leonard Boetcher, Brillion. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Meiselwitz Funeral home and at 2:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran church in Kiel. The Rev. E. B. Boehm, pastor, will officiate, and burial will be made in the Kiel cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral home from Thursday noon until the time of the services. Hinz of Kiel were held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Meiselwitz Funeral home and at 2:30 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran church with the Rev. E. G. Behm officiating. Burial was made in the Kiel cemetery. The church choir, with Mrs. E. G. Behm accompanying at the organ, rendered two selections during the services. Pallbearers were Delmore, George, Jr.., Vernon and Wilmer Schroeder, Robert Hinz and Merlin Luedke. Mr. Hinz was married to Marie Ortlepp of the town of Rantoul at Trinity Lutheran church at Rantoul on May 4, 1915. Until three years ago when they moved to Kiel where he was employed at Stoelting Brothers, he had operated a cheese factory in Calumet county. Relatives and friends from Plymouth, Sheboygan, Cleveland, Haven, Appleton, Brillion, Reedsville, Potter, Random Lake, and Calvary attend the last rites. FREDERICK HINZ cemetery #44 Manitowoc Daily Herald, Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Thursday, December 26, 1907 DEATH'S SADDEN IN HOLIDAY JOYS Mrs. August Meyer Is Called From Earth - Frederick Hinz Dead Frederick Hinz, a well known resident, formerly engaged in business as a blacksmith, died at the Holy Family hospital Tuesday evening, after an illness of several months duration. Mr. Hinz, who came to this city from Germany in 1863, had resided here since that time. He retired from business some years ago. A widow and seven children survive, being Albert and Walter, Milwaukee, Richard, Mrs. Walter Schmidt, Mrs. A. Zenk, Mrs. W. Strothoff, Miss Addie, of this city. MARIE HINZ cemetery #82 Funeral services for Mrs. Marie Hinz, 79, formerly of 1421 S. 16th St., who died Thursday at Sunny Ridge, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Nickel’s Funeral Home. The Rev. Arnold Wenger, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Kiel Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today. The former Marie Ortlepp was born in the Townof Rantoul (Calumet County) on Dec. 12, 1890, a daughter of the late Gottfried and Marie Ortlepp. She was baptized and confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church there. On May 4, 1915, she was married to Albert Hinz. He died in 1948. Mrs. Hinz worked for several years at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital and retired in 1965. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Survivors include two sons, Elmer of Valders and Melvin of Sheboygan; a daughter, Mrs. Roger (Marion) Lenz, of Black River; and 15 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandchild; six brothers, and six sisters. One brother, Richard, died on Tuesday of this week. MICHAEL HINZ cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 06 Apr. 1899: Local resident Friedrich Hinz died in Sheboygan at age 75 of an abdominal illness. Mr. Hinz had gone to Sheboygan several days ago to visit his daughter, Mrs. Hermann Schmidt who resides there. His body was brought here yesterday. (Note: Despite article says Friedrich, I believe this is Michael because of his age and dates involved.)

ROY R. HIRVELA cemetery #89C Funeral services for Roy R. Hirvela, 57, of 1037-25th St., Two Rivers, overseas veteran of World War II and active in American Legion and VFW circles who died at Family Heritage Home, Manitowoc, Saturday, will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Emanuel United Methodist Church, Two Rivers, the Rev. Karl F. Koch officiating. Burial will be in Forest View Cemetery. Mr. Hirvela was born May 31, 1915, at Bruce Crossing, Mich., son of the late Eino and Lempi Makinen Hrvela. Following overseas service in World War II, he married Beatrice Ney at Two Rivers Nov. 29, 1947. He was an employe of Mirro Aluminum Co., Two Rivers, and was affiliated with Two Rivers Lodge No. 200, F.A.M., Eleven Gold Star Post 1248, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Robert E. Burns Post 165, American Legion. Besides his wife he leaves four daughters and three sons (Survivors omitted for privacy.); a sister, Mrs. Louis DuPont, of Madison; a brother, Leo Hirvela, of Grayling Mich., and two grandchildren. Friends may call at Klein & Stangel Inc., Funeral Home, Two Rivers, after 3 o'clock this Monday afternoon until 11 a.m. Tuesday where the body will lie in state until the time of service. DR. HENRY M. HITTNER cemetery 89A Manitowoc Co. Chronicle, Two Rivers, Tuesday, June 21, 1892 Hittner: At his home in this city, June 19th, 1892, of heart failure, Henry M. Hittner, M.D., aged 51 years. Dr. Hittner, whose sudden death so startled the city last Sunday morning, was one of our best and most enterprising citizens and was a very popular and successful physician. He came to Mishicott about twelve years ago and for a few years made that village his home, where he owned a handsome residence, but a few years ago he built a Sanitarium in this city and since its completion has spent the greater portion of his time here. He was born in Bavaria, April 28th, 1841. In early life he came to this country and settled at Cincinnati, where he studied and practiced medicine. During the War he served in Army hospitals as assistant surgeon and attendant. He leaves a wife, two sons and four daughters. His son James is a practicing physician at Seymour, and his other son, Henry, is pursuing the study of medicine. His daughters are all trained musicians and two of them, Maggie and Katie, hold professional engagements in New York. His oldest daughter, Mrs. Lukow, is a resident of St. Paul, and his youngest, Bertha, is a student in our High School. The funeral takes place tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock. He was a Mason and will be buried with the usual Masonic rites. He was also a member of the Order of Herman Sons and his brethren of that order will act as a guard of honor. ******* From Der Nord Westen, 23 June 1892: Death on Sun. morning in Two Rivers of Dr. Henry M. Hittner, one of our leading citizens. He was born 28 Apr. 1841, came to America as a child, studied medicine here and returned to Germany for advanced medical studies in Berlin and Göttingen. The decedent, who died of a heart attack, is survived by a widow and 6 children. Burial was on Wed.


JOSEPH HLAVACEK cemetery #77 Joseph Hlavacek, 76, retired farmer, died in his sleep Sunday night at the home in the village of Reedsville. He had enjoyed fairly good health until a few days ago. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from the St. Mary's Catholic church at Reedsville. The Rev. Joseph H. Hlavacek of Detroit, Mich., a son, will officiate at the final rites for his father. Mr. Hlavacek was born on the homestead farm at Cato in 1886 and in 1891 married Miss Anna Oswald. She died in 1899. Two years later he married Miss Mary Burich. Fourteen years ago they located at Reedsville, the farm being taken over by a son, John. Survivors are the widow; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Shimek of Reedsville, Mrs. John Pollak of this city, Mrs. Frank Bacik of Detroit; five sons, John, on the home farm, George of Beloit, the Rev. Joseph Hlavacek of Detroit, Stephen of Madison, Charles of Wausau; sister, Mrs. John Naidl of Branch; and 12 grandchildren. A son, Frank, died eight years ago.
