JAMES A. JOAS cemetery #83 James A. Joas, 70, of Calumetville, formerly of Sheboygan, died Sunday, July 27, 2008. He was the son of the late Arthur and Margaret (Merrill) Joas, born June 1, 1938 in Stockbridge. He graduated from Kiel High School in 1956 at which time he joined the Navy, serving on the USS Coney for two years. In his early years James was a car salesman at Elm City Motors and was employed at Tecumseh, prior to joining Wisconsin Public Service for eight years. In 1969 Jim started a business selling snowmobiles which grew into Sheboygan Yamaha Motorsports which he owned and operated for 38 years. Jim sold the business and retired on Feb. 1, 2007. Jim was a charter member of the Lakeshore Two Cylinder Antique Tractor Club and a member of the Calumetville Antique Tractor Club as Jim had a hobby of collecting and showing John Deere tractors and hit-n-miss motors. To satisfy his competitive nature Jim enjoyed participating in antique tractor pulls, and has many trophies to show for his efforts. He was a charter member of the Louis Corners Sno-Birds Snowmobile club as well as a member of the Howard's Grove Snowdrifters and Ranger City Riders Snowmobile Club of Amberg. He enjoyed the sport of snowmobiling and was instrumental in getting the recreation trail along Hwy 28 open for snow- mobiling. Jim was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and water sports along with friends and family. He also was a great adventurer and l oved to travel. He was also a member of the Howard's Grove VFW Post #9924. Jim is survived by his two brothers, nephews, nieces, and many, many special friends and relatives. In addition to his parents, Jim was also preceded in death by his son, Dean and nephew, Scott Joas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Jim on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, N10232 CTH G in Marytown. Rev. Joseph H. Coerber will be celebrant. Interment will follow at St Peter and Paul Cemetery in Kiel. ERNST R. JOCHIMSEN cemetery #82 Funeral services will be held Friday for Ernst R. Jochimsen, 67, Route 2, Kiel, a Town of Schleswig farmer, who died Tuesday at Calumet Memorial hospital, Chilton, after a ten-day illness. The services will be held at Meiselwitz Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Allen L. Bowe officiating. Burial will be in the Kiel cemetery. ADOLF G. JOCHMANN Adolph(sic) G. Jochmann, aged 68, life-long resident of the town of Schleswig, passed away Sunday afternoon at the Sheboygan Memorial hospital, following a short illness. The deceased was born in the town of Schleswig on April 18, 1882, the son of the late Traugott and Wilhelmina Meyer. On August 2, 1913, he was married to Miss Clara Duerrwaechter of near Kiel, and the couple moved to the present farm two miles north of this city, immediately following their marriage. Survivors are his wife; a daughter, Evelyn, and a son, LeRoy, at home; a brother, Henry Jochmann of this city; two sisters, Mrs. John Peters of Town Rhine, and Mrs. Julius Spitzer of Kenosha. Two sisters and a brother preceded him in death. Mr. Jochmann was a member of the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church, the Men's Brotherhood, and served as an elder and deacon in the church consistory. Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, and at 2 o'clock at the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church with the Rev. E. L. Worthman officiating. Burial was made in the Kiel cemetery. - November 4, 1945


ANNA JOCHMANN cemetery #82 Relatives here were notified on Tuesday evening of the death of Anna Jochmann, aged 62, which occurred in the evening of that day at 7:30 at Oshkosh, where the deceased had been the past six weeks. The body was immediately brought to Kiel by the C. J. Meiselwitz Co., and was taken to the John Peters home in the town of Rhine, where she had made her home in recent years. The deceased, the daughter of the late Traugott and Wilhelmina Jochmann, was born Jan. 10, 1879, in the town of Rhine, where she grew to womanhood. She had been an invalid for some years, and death followed a lingering illness. She is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Adolph and Henry Jochmann of Kiel, and Mrs. John Peters of Rhine, and Mrs. Adela Spitzer, Racine. Another brother, Edwin, died two years ago, and a sister, Mrs. Louis Frick, passed away in Rhine three years ago. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 from the Peters home in Rhine, on Friday, with services at the St. Peter Reformed church here at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in the local cemetery, and the Rev. E. L. Worthman will conduct the last rites. - 1931


CHRISTINA JOCHMANN cemetery #20 At the advanced age of almost 94 years, Mrs. Johanna Christina Jochmann, mother of Mr. A. F. Neumann of this city, passed away Saturday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Theodore Keppler, at Wild Rose, about fifty miles west of Oshkosh. Mrs. Jochmann, nee Liske, was born in Schleswig, Germany, May 3, 1837. At the age of 24, while still in Germany, she was married to Carl Jochmann. To the couple, eleven children were born, six of who died in their youth. Her husband preceded her in death 24 years ago, since which time the deceased had made her home with her surviving daughters, who are: Mrs. Henry Breyer of Chicago; Mrs. William Schadel of West Bend; Mrs. Herman Krueger of Sheboygan; Mrs. Keppler at Wild Rose; and Mrs. Neumann here. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held here Monday afternoon at the Neuman home, the Rev. E. L. Worthman conducting the last rites. CLARA JOCHMANN cemetery #82 Mrs. Clara Jochmann, 82, of R. 2, Kiel, in the Town of Schleswig, died at her home Friday night. She was born on Sept. 21, 1886, in the Town of Schleswig, a daughter of the late William and Maria (Staats) Duerrwaechter. She attended public school in Kiel. On Aug. 2, 1913, she was married to Adolph Jochmann at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Kiel. He proceeded her in death on Nov. 4, 1945. She continued to make her home on the family farm in rural Kiel. She was a member of St. Peter’s UCC, and the Frauen Verein of the church. Survivors are one daughter, Evelyn and a son LeRoy, both on the home farm and one brother, Adolph, R. 2, Kiel. She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Peter’s UCC, Kiel, with the Rev. John F. Baumann, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Kiel Cemetery. GORDON F. JOCHMANN cemetery #20 Gordon F. Jochmann, 66, of 1803 Monroe St., New Holstein died Tuesday, December 21, 1993 at his home. He was born June 24, 1927, in New Holstein, a son of the late Arthur and Anida Rosenbauer Jochmann. On February 10, 1984, he married Rose Ann Hocks in Chilton. Mr. Jochmann served in the United States Navy from October 1943 – April 1946. He then served in the United States Army from May 1947 – April 1966. During this time he saw action in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He was a current commander of the New Holstein American Legion Post 124. He was the first commander of Al Hertel Post 65, Disabled American Veterans. He was past correspondent of the 40 & 8 and also a member of the Chilton Eagles, Aerie 1288. GOTTHELF JOCHMANN cemetery #82 Lame for about 20 years, Gotthelf Jochmann died at his home on Fourth street last Thursday at 7 a.m. Mr. Jochmann was born in Schlesien, Germany, May 15, 1849. At the age of 16 years he came to America with his parents and settled with them on a farm in Town Herman. Later he worked his way among strangers, working for a time in Iowa. On Jan. 21, 1877 he was married to Miss Mary Deicher and the couple went to live on a farm north of Kiel. Seven children were born to them, two of whom preceded him in death, Emma 27 years ago at the age of 13, and Tena, Mrs. Charles Schmidt, 3 months ago. Mr. Jochmann is survived by his wife; four sons, Herman of Kiel, Fred and August of New Holstein, and Arthur on the homestead; one daughter, Martha at home; one sister, Mrs. John Boeldt (clipping ends) - July 1926


HENRY JOCHMANN cemetery #82 Henry Jochmann Dies Tuesday Morning Death came suddenly early Tuesday morning to Henry Jochmann, 70, whose home was at 517 Broadway. He was a former city marshal of Kiel and retired from a watchman job at the A.A. Laun Furniture Company about a year ago. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday from the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church, with the Rev. E.L. Worthman in charge. Burial will be in the Kiel cemetery. He was born in Schleswig township in 1880. He married Lena Wittrock in 1917 and they have made their home in this community since. For many years, Mr. Jochmann was employed as a stone mason and also as a butcher. He butchered two steers the day before his death. He served as city marshal from 1934 to 1946. He is survived by his wife; a son Elmer, and a daughter Anita, and two sisters, Mrs. John Peters of Rhine, and Mrs. Julius Spitzer of Kenosha. In 1934 he was appointed city marshal and held that position for 12 years. From 1946 until April, 1950, he worked at night watchman for the Laun Furniture company. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Evangelical and Reformed church at Kiel. He leaves his wife; a daughter, Miss Anita Jochmann, at home; a son, Elmer, at home; and two sisters, Mrs. John Peters, of the town of Rhine and Mrs. Julius Spitzer, of Kenosha. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at Ss. Peter and Paul church at 2 p.m. Friday, the Rev. E. L. Worthman officiating, and burial will be in Kiel cemetery. MARY JOCHMANN cemetery #82 Mary Jochmann, 72, Dies Tuesday The death of Mrs. Mary Jochmann, nee Deicher, occurred Tuesday evening at 8:30 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Schmidt here. Mrs. Jochmann had reached the age of 72 years. Death was attributed to infection of a goitre. The deceased was born April 29, 1845, in the town of Rhine, where she lived with her family until the time of her marriage on January 21, 1877, when she moved with her husband to a farm in Schleswig. Here the couple lived until 1917, when Mr. and Mrs. Jochmann came here to live. Her husband died one year ago. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Charles Schmidt; four sons, Merman of Kiel; and Fred, August, and Arthur, of New Holstein; four brothers, Adam, Phillip, Dr. Henry, and Herman Deicher, of Plymouth; three sisters, Mrs. John Luth and Mrs. Arthur Pfiel of Glenbeulah, and Mrs. Albert Smith of Milwaukee; and six grandchildren. Two children preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held from the home Friday at 1:30, and from the Reformed church at 2 o’clock, with interment in the Kiel cemetery. DOROTHY H. JOHANEK cemetery #66 Dorothy H. Johanek, age 71, a resident of Tisch Mills, died Thursday, May 13, 1999, at the Two Rivers Community Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am. on Monday. May 17, 1999, at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Tisch Mills, with the Rev. Gerald B. Kernpen, O. Praem officiating with burial in the church cemetery. Dorothy was born July 3, 1927, in the town of Carlton, Kewaunee County, daughter of the late Frank and Florence Valenta Roidt. She has been a lifelong area resident. She was a graduate of Kewaunee High School and married Eugene Johanek, June 21, 1947, at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Tisch Mills. She was a member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, where she taught C.C.D. She was a member of the Rosary Society of the church, and assisted in making the church bulletins for many years. She enjoy crocheting and making afghans and crafts. EUGENE J. JOHANEK cemetery #66 Eugene J. Johanek, age 77, a resident of Tisch Mills, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001 at the Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 noon Friday, May 4, 2001 at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Tisch Mills, with the Reverend Joseph Praem, officiating. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by the Carlton American Legion Post #538. Eugene was born March 30, 1924 in Kewaunee County to the late Jacob and Emily Pilzak Johanek and has been a lifelong area resident. He married the former Dorothy Roidt, June 21, 1947 at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Tisch Mills. She preceded him in death on May 13, 1999. He served in the United States Army during WWII in Japan and the Philippines. Mr. Johanek was employed by the Hamilton Manufacturing Company for over 40 years. He played for several bands, including the Joe Karmen Band, Bill Siebold Band, the Two Creeks Farm Hands, and the Mark Jirkovec Band. He was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, the Czechs of Norman and the Carlton American Legion Post #538. Mrs. Johannes, nee Margaret Rumpf, was born in the town of Mishicot, April 28, 1862. Forty eight years ago she was married to William Johannes, who preceded her in death two years ago. The couple had lived in this city since their marriage. Mrs. Johannes is survived by one son, Fred, of this city. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Emil Becker of this city. Her husband preceded her in death May 15, 1972. She was a member of the Chrisitan Mothers Society of St. Mary Church. Survivors include three sons, Lee, of Shawano, Merritt, of Roslyn, Pa., and Neil, of Rt. 1 Valders; a daughter, Mrs. W.J. (Lois) Rauch, of Racine; two sisters, Mrs. Otto Wagner, of Chilton and Mrs. Loretta Johnson of Manitowoc; nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. The deceased, who was born in Norway in 1843, came to America in 1871 and 2 years later moved to Manitowoc. In 1891 he established the J.G. Johnson Co. here, a wood and coal company. EDNA L. JOHNSON cemetery #44 Mrs. Edna L. Johnson, 69, died of a long illness at 9 p.m. Friday at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. David W. Calvert, 2225 N. 22nd St. She had been making her home there for about 10 years. The former Edna Lawrence, she was born in Sioux City, Iowa, Dec. 7, 1889, a daughter of the late Charles and Jeanette Lawrence. She was a member of First Methodist Church here. Mr. Johnson was employed by the Lake to Lake Dairy Co-operative for 20 years, the past 12 years as plant manager at Kiel. On Aug. 21, 1948 he married the former Joyce Tenpas of Vesper. JOHNSON Captain John Johnson, a resident of Manitowc for the greater part of his life, passed away this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Joseph Ladwig, 711 Sycamore Street, Milwaukee. Captain Johnson who was 80 years of age, was born in Norway. He was the owner of a schooner which sailed out of this port. He used to reside on North Fourth Street, but left Manitowoc five years ago and since that time had made his home in Milwaukee. Mrs. Johnson has been dead for many years. Surviving relatives are his daughter with whom he had made his home and four sons, Frank of Manitowoc, Joseph of Milwaukee, John of Milwaukee, Edward of Kewaunee and a sister, Miss Maggie Johnson of Milwaukee. The body will arrive in Manitowoc Monday morning and the funeral services will be held at Evergreen chapel Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. E. J. Symons of St. Paul's M. E. church officiating. WALLACE RAE JOHNSON cemetery #82 Wallace R. Johnson, 62, died suddenly at his home at 422 Fifth street in Kiel last night. Born May 20, 1886, in Green Bay, the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Johnson, he attended school there and was a graduate of West High school and the Green Bay Business college. He came to Kiel in 1909 to take up a position in the office of the Kiel Woodenware company and later became sales manager. In 1929 he was named general manager. On June 12, 1916, he married Mathilda Mesch. During the war he served with the War Production Board and at his death was a partner in Industrial Maintenance in Milwaukee. He was a member of the Masonic lodge, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Presbyterian church of Kiel. Surviving are his wife; a son, Wallace, of Chicago; a sister, Mae, of Green Bay; and two brothers, Wilbur of Sheboygan and Edward of Wausaukee. WINFORD H. JOHNSON cemetery #82 W. H. Johnson Passes Away Unexpectedly Winford H. Johnson, aged 46, a former Kiel businessman, and a veteran of World War I; and active in political and public life of northeastern Wisconsin for years, passed away Friday night at the St. Nicholas hospital in Sheboygan. Mr. Johnson had submitted to an operation for appendicitis nine days ago. Mr. Johnson served on the City Council, and was one of Kiel’s representatives on the County Board, in the late thirties, and for a short time was co—editor of the The County Record. The deceased was born in Green Bay in 1896, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Johnson. He enlisted in the Wisconsin National Guard in May, 1917 and served for a year overseas as an officer in the 32nd division. He was assigned to the 127th—l28th Infantry, 64th Brigade Headquarters. In 1924 he married Miss Hildegard Becker. Locating in Kiel he served for a number of years as bookkeeper and accountant for the Kiel Wooden Ware Company and in 1938 became a partner with Bradford A. Cox in publication of the Tri-County Record. After two years he disposed of his interest in the paper to Mr. Cox and since last April has been employed at the Hart-Carter Company at New Holstein. For years he was active in Republican party circles in north- eastern Wisconsin. He was a candidate for the Republican nomin- ation for the assembly in the second district of Manitowoc county in 1938. In 1935 when Kiel launched a program for a paved route from the county seat, Mr. Johnson became a candidate for supervisor and was elected for a 2-year term. He did not run again at the end of his term. He was active for many years in the Kiel Chamber of Commerce and served on numerous community committees. His affiliations included membership in the Kiel lodge, F. & A, M. No. 336, and the Chilton Chapter, R. A. M. No. 94, and the Kasper Post No. 99, American Legion of Kiel. Mr. Johnson is survived by his widow; three daughters, Barbara, Alice and Nancy, and a son, Allen, all at home; three brothers, Wa11ace H. of Kiel, Wilbur W. of Sheboygan, and Private Edward Johnson of Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana, and a sister, Miss Mae Johnson of Green Bay. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock from the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, and at 2 o’clock at the Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. E. Delware of Waukesha officiating. The Legion of Kasper Post No. 99 assisted in the services. Burial was made in the Kiel cemetery. Pall-bearers were Martin Lukesh, Edward Reineck, Edgar Paulsen, Earl Lehner, Arthur Graef, and George Dexheimer, members of the American Legion. The last rites were largely attended by local people and many from farther away. 1942

He is survived by a widow and children, as well as his parents and several sisters. The deceased, a cabinet-maker, was a Manitowoc resident, but for the past several weeks has been in the residence of Jacob Williams, near Manitowoc Rapids, where he hoped that the change of location would bring some relief from his illness. JOSEPHINE M. JOHNSRUD cemetery #44 MRS. JOHNSRUD PASSES AFTER LONG ILLNESS Mrs. Josephine Margaret Johnsrud died Saturday night at the home of her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob A. Williams, North Tenth street, after a long illness. Mrs. Johnsrud who was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Edwards was born in Manitowoc, October 19, 1868. After several years spent teaching rural schools near Antigo and in Manitowoc county she was married to John M. Johnsrud, June 5, 1901. Mr. Johnsrud died in November 1906. Their only surviving child is Miss Jean Johnsrud, a teacher at Lake Mills, Wis. Besides her daughter, Mrs. Johnsrud is survived by two brothers; William Edwards, Chicago and Joseph Edwards of Oregon. Also four sisters; Mrs. G.E. Tolman, Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Charles Simple and Mrs. Julius Borkman, Oakland, Calif., and Mrs. Herbert Borkman, Seattle, Wash. The last few years Mrs. Johnsrud has spent in the household of her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Williams, where she also spent much of her girlhood and to whom she gave loving care. She was a member of Corp Number 53, W.R.C. and of St. Faith's Guild of the Episcopal church. Funeral services were held this afternoon at St. James church of which she was a faithful communicant, Rev. R.O. Reynolds officiating. Interment was at Evergreen cemetery. JOHN JOHNSTON cemetery #41 John E. Johnston of St. Nazianz to Be Buried Monday St. Nazianz – (Special) – John E. Johnston, 71, died Thursday morning at his home in town Cato, one mile west of Valders, after an illness of 10 days’ duration. He was born in town Liberty, Nov. 8, 1867, and in 1898 married Miss Elizabeth Halverson, the couple locating on the present farm home. Until a few years ago, he was a trustee of the West Valders Lutheran church in which he was baptized, confirmed and married, and in which his funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, after services at the home at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. A. E. Fretheim will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Surviving Mr. Johnston are his widow; a son, Eli, at home; three daughters, Mrs. Harwood Savage and Mrs. Albert Marken of Valders, and Miss Grace, at home; three grandchildren; two brothers, Otis of Cato, and Thorval of Hutchinson, Minn.; and one sister, Mrs. Tillie Mersen of Steele, N.D. LEONARD JOHNSTON cemetery #41 Leonard Johnston, 73, of Valders, died Tuesday evening at Fenlon's Bowling Alley, Valders. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church, Valders. The Rev. Robert Onkka will officiate and burial will be in Valders West Cemetery. Mr. Johnston was born Aug. 6, 1898, in the Town of Cato, son of the late Otis and Ida Quilly Johnston. He was the Standard Oil agent in Valders for 37 years retiring in 1961. He married Irene Torrison June 14, 1922, at Valders. Mr. Johnston was charter member of the Valders Lions Club, president of the Valders Public Utilities and a member of the Eagles Aerie No. 706 of Manitowoc. Survivors include his wife, a son, Warren of Horicon; three daughters, Mrs. Art (IdaBell) Steinhilb of Phillipsburg, N.J., Mrs. James (BernaDean) Berge of Milwaukee and Mrs. Donald (Shirley Bushman of Fort Clayton, Canal Zone, Panama; two sisters, Mrs. Viola Christianson of Valders and Mrs. Earl Berge of Rt. 1, Valders; and 10 grandchildren. LINDA L. JOHNSTON cemetery #44 Linda L. Johnston, age 55, of 1419 Grand Avenue, Manitowoc, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006. She was born July 7, 1951, in Manitowoc, daughter of Delores Ann (Krueger) Polifka and the late Matthew Polifka Jr. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, class of 1970. Linda was employed with Manitowoc Ice for 28 years. She was a member of Local Union 516 Machinist and AeroSpace. PETER JOHNSTON cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 06 Oct. 1904: Death on Mon. of former local resident Peter Johnston in Beaver Island, Michigan, where he was visiting his son who lives there. Mr. Johnston was born in 1831 in Scotland and came to Manitowoc in 1855 where he undertook several businesses. He was the first mayor of the City of Manitowoc to which he was elected in 1870, and also served several other offices. He is survived by 7 children and 2 stepchildren. RUTH E. JOHNSTON cemetery #41 Mrs. Ruth Johnston, 45, of 1511 S. 13th St., Manitowoc died Tuesday morning at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Theodore J. Vinger will officiate and burial will be in Faith Lutheran West Cemetery, Valders. Mrs. Johnston, nee Ruth Elaine Larson, was born Nov. 29, 1924, at Valders, daughter of the late John Albert and Mrs. Mildred Berge Larson. She attended schools at Valders, graduating from Valders High School, class of 1942. Following her graduation, she worked a short time at the J.J. Stangel Hardware Co. and then she had been employed by the Dr. Gregory and Dr. Simonsen Clinic. In 1946, she was employed by the local American Red Cross. May 1, 1954, she was appointed executive secretary of the Red Cross. In February of 1970, she took a leave of absence because of ill health. (Survivors omitted for privacy.) FRANK JOHST cemetery #83 Frank P. Johst, 68, of R. 2, Kiel, a retired Town of Schleswig farmer, died Monday morning at St. Mary Hospital, Milwaukee, where he was admitted Friday. He was born Aug. 1, 1906 in Kiel, the son of the late John and Susanna LaCroix Johst. He attended Ss. Peter and Paul Parochial School in Kiel and Kiel High School. On Nov. 30, 1934 he married Loretta Anhalt at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. After their marriage the couple engaged in farming in the Town of Schleswig until retiring two years ago. Mr. Johst was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, its Holy Name Society and the Senior citizens of Kiel. Survivors are his widow; name of daughter withheld for privacy, and six grandchildren. An infant daughter and a brother preceded him in death. The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church preceded by family rites at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, at 9:30 a.m. The Rev. Francis Kerscher, pastor, will be celebrant of the funeral Mass. FRANZ JOHST cemetery #83 On Friday afternoon about 2:00 PM, Mr. Franz Johst, a long time resident of Kiel, died at his home from a heart attack after an eight year long illness at the age of 71 years, 3 months and 12 days. The deceased was born on July 17, 1844 in Oppenheim, near Mainz, Hessen-Darmstad, Germany and came to America in 1867 where he first settled in the Town of Rhine. Two years later he went to Chicago, where he married Catharine Kramer. Eleven years later the family returned to the Town of Rhine, and for the past 16 years they have resided in Kiel, where Mr. Johst worked in the table factory, until last year when his health and age made it necessary for him to retire. The marriage was blessed with nine children, of which three and his wife survive him, namely, John and Frank Johst of Kiel, and Mrs. Anton Frenzel who lives in Washington. The burial took place on Tuesday morning at the Catholic Cemetery after a service in the church officiated by Father Kolbe.


JOHN JOHST cemetery #83 Funeral services for John Johst, 80, were held Tuesday morning from S. S. Peter and Paul Catholic church, with the Rev. F. X. Kheil in charge. He died at his farm home Friday afternoon. He was born in Chicago December 22, 1873 and came to this community when he was seven years of age. September 26, 1905, he married Susan LaCroix at the S. S. Peter and Paul Catholic church, and they settled here. He was employed at the Kiel Furniture company for 27 years. In 1932 they purchased their farm home north of Kiel where he died. He was a member of the S. S. Peter and Paul church. Survivors include his wife and two sons, Frank and Walter, both at home. He has one sister, Mrs. Catherine Franzel of Montana. There is one grandchild. 1954


KATHARINA JOHST cemetery #83 CALLED BY DEATH. Mrs. Catherina Johst, widow of the late Franz Johst, passed away Monday morning at 9 o’clock at the home of her son John. The deceased, nee Kraemer, had been ill with dropsy of the heart for a long time, but death was due to a stroke which she suffered a short time before her demise. Mrs. Johst was a native of Trier, Germany where she was born August 9, 1842. She came to America in 1869, locating in Chicago, where she was married to Franz Johst in 1870. The family came to Sheboygan in 1880, and settled in Kiel in 1899, where Mrs. Johst had since resided. Her husband died six years ago. 9 children were born in the family, of whom six have preceded their parents in death. The surviving children are John Johst in Kiel, Frank Joseph in Sheboygan and Mrs. Anton Frenzel in Montana. She also 1eaves five grandchildren. The funeral took place Wednesday forenoon, with services in St. Peter and Paul’s church, Rev. M. Rumpel officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. - 1921


SUSANNA JOHST Mrs. John Johst, 81, of R. 2, Kiel, died Monday afternoon at St. Nicholas Hospital where she had been a patient for the past five days. The former Susan LaCroix was born Jan. 31, 1881, at St. Anna, a daughter of the late William and Elizabeth LaCroix. She attended district schools at St. Anna and later worked in Milwaukee for many years. On Sept. 26, 1905, she married John Johst at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. They lived in Kiel until 1932 when they moved to their present home. Mr. Johst, a painter, preceded her in death in 1954. She was a member of the Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, and of the Christian Mothers Society of the parish. Surviving are two sons, Frank and Walter, both of R. 2 Kiel; one grandchild; three great grandchildren; two brothers, Paul of Kiel and Edward of Staten Island, N.Y.; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Schram, St. Nazianz, and Mrs. Ida Schram, Two Rivers. Two sisters also preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, following brief rites at 9 o’clock at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home in Kiel. The Rev. George Kiefer, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery.


WALTER H. JOHST cemetery #83 Walter H. Johst, 54, of Rt. 2, Kiel, Town of Schleswig farmer, died Saturday night at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan. He had been ill nine months. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, and at 9:30 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. George Kiefer will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Johst was born July 31, 1908, at Kiel, son of the late John and Susan LaCroix Johst. He attended Sts. Peter and Paul Parochial School and Kiel High School. He had been employed by Hingiss Inc., and A. A. Laun Furniture Co., Kiel, until 1932 when he and a brother, Frank, operated the farm in Schleswig. He was a member of Holy Name Society of Sts. Peter and Paul Church. Surviving is the brother, Frank, of Rt. 2 Kiel. - 1963
