HUBERT KAU cemetery #89B Hubert Kau is my great great great grandfather. He married Anna Magdalena Otto, a servant girl, on 9 Oct 1844 in Satzvey or Satzvej which was in Prussia. I have a copy of their marriage record. His parents were Engelbert Kau and Anna Catharina Zingsheim. "Lena" was the daughter of Chrisant (Christian) Otto and Maria Magdalena Milfeit. A notice in the Nord Westen, a German newpaper in Wisconsin tells of a Golden wedding anniversary for Mr. and Mrs. Rau at the residence of Joseph Shambeau, their son-in-law. A large group of friends and family were in attendance. This notice was in the Oct. 19, 1893 issue. Name should be Kau. Hubert and Lena's daughter, Christiana, married Joseph Shambeau. Also in Der Nord Westen: 21 Jun 1894 Burial last Mon. in the Catholic Cemetery of J. Kan, a 73 year old settler who formerly worked for the Wisconsin Leather Co. The last few years he and his wife have lived with his son-in-law Joseph Shambeau. This is the notice for Hubert Kau's death. The old script "K" looked like an "R" so the name gets mistranscribed frequently. Also, the "u" sometimes looks like an "n". Haven't looked at the "J" and "H" confusion yet, but the death notice is definitely for Hubert who died 16 June 1894. Now I am looking for Lena's grave. (sent in by researcher/see contributors page)
