ANNA (BISHOP) KOHL Cemetery 89D Two Rivers Reporter, Monday, January 9, 1939 FORMER LOCAL RESIDENT DIES IN MILWAUKEE Mrs. William Kohl, Nee Anna Bishop Succumbs; Funeral Here Thursday Mrs. William Kohl, 49, daughter of Mrs. Josephine Bishop of this city died Sunday afternoon at Milwaukee where she had lived since her marriage twenty- five years ago. She had been ill since Friday. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at nine o'clock fro the Sacred Heart Catholic church with the Rev. Joseph Gabryzoek officiating. Interment will be in Holy Cross cemetery. Mrs. Kohl, nee Anna Bishop, was born in Manitowoc, November 28, 1890. A few years later the family moved to this city. She remained here until January 14, 1914, when she married William Kohl and moved to Milwaukee. Survivors are the widower; two sons Chandler and Edward; her mother, Mrs. Josephine Bishop; three sisters, Mrs. Chester Evans, Milwaukee, Mrs. Walter Condon, Pewaukee, and Mrs. Percy Brandt, Manitowoc; and by two brothers, Leonard of Milwaukee and George of Manitowoc. The body will be brought to the Klein and Stangel, Inc., funeral home Tuesday evening where it may be viewed until the time of the funeral Thursday morning.

BERNHARD KOHL/WILHELM KUHL cemetery #73 From Der Nord Westen, 21 Sep. 1899 Death on Thurs. (14 Sept.) last week in Newton of Wilhelm Kuhl of old age debility. The deceased was born 06 Feb. 1811 in Hesse-Darmstadt, came to America in 1848 and settled in Newton when it was just a wilderness where he has lived ever since. He leaves one son and one daughter. His funeral took place Sun. in the cemetery of the Reformed Congregation of Newton. (Note: I believe this gentleman to be Bernard Kohl as the birth and death dates are identical to Bernhard Kohl.)

The deceased came from Germany in 1873 and lived in Town Kossuth ever since. She leaves 2 children. The funeral was held Monday.

HENRIETTE KOHLS cemetery #17 (There seems to be something wrong with this entry. The following is from the Obituary Book of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Maribel: Burial on 3 September 1882. Henriette Kohls born Franke, wife of Karl Kohls, was born January 15, 1801, in Bostrin, Kreis Schivelbein, Germany, and baptized and confirmed the same place. They were married in 1824 and emigrated to America in 1856, settling in Cooperstown for 14 years. They then moved to their children in Gibson Town for 13 years. She then resided with her daughter and son-in-law Fr. Uecker. She died at the age of 81 years, 8 months, and ? days. Her husband and two children grieve beside her coffin; one in Germany. God rest her soul.

ARLEINE M. KOHOUT cemetery #43 Arleine M. Kohout, age 93, a former Manitowoc resident, currently of 450 Ensenada St., Denver Colo., died Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 21, 2004, at her home in Denver, Colo. She was born April 30, 1911, in Muscatine, Iowa, daughter of the late John and Myrtle (Fidelia) Kuechmann. On June 1, 1940, she married Kenneth S. Kohout at St. Paul Catholic Church, Burlington, Iowa. He preceded her in death June 11, 2000. Arleine grew up in Iowa and has resided in Manitowoc since her marriage. Arleine was a receptionist at Weyerhaeuser for 20 years until her retirement in 1975. She was a former member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Rosary and Altar Society, the Association for the Developmentally Disabled and Friends of Holiday House for many years. (Survivors omitted for privacy) She was preceded in death by six brothers, eight sisters-in-law and two brothers- in-law. The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc, from 9:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, until the time of Mass of 10:30 a.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc. CARL F. KOLB cemetery #14 From Der Nord Westen, 17 Mar. 1904: Death in Town Meeme on Sat. of widely known Carl Kolb from stomach cancer. The deceased was born 02 Sep. 1837 in Treitsch, bei Neustadt, Saxon-Weimar, and came to America with his parents in 1850. They settled in Town Centerville, but Mr. KOLB moved to Meeme 4 yrs. later where he had lived ever since. He is survived by his widow and 15 children. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon.

HILDA KOLB cemetery #61 Funeral services for Mrs. Hilda Kolb, 70, of Kiel, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. James United Church of Christ, Spring Valley, with the Rev. Kenneth Schultz, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Kolb died Thursday morning at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The former Hilda Wiegand was born June 3, 1900, a daughter of the late Louis and Agnes Lutze Wiegand. On Dec. 20, 1919, she married John H. Kolb in Manitowoc. The couple farmed in the Town of Meeme until 1950 when they moved to School Hill. Mr. Kolb, who was in the insurance business, died in 1962. Mrs. Kolb moved to Kiel a year ago. She was a member of St. James UCC and a charter member of its Ladies Aid Society. (Survivors omitted for privacy) She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, two brothers and a sister. Friends may call after 3 p.m. today until 11 a.m. Saturday at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, and at the church from noon until time of services. MELVIN KOLB cemetery #82 Melvin G. Kolb, 88, formerly of 221 Paine Street, Kiel, died Thursday evening at the Willowdale Nursing Home in New Holstein where he was a resident for one year. He was born in Cleveland on December 4, 1900, son of the late Henry and Selma Koellmer Kolb. He attended schools in Cleveland and Milwaukee areas. On October 8, 1927 he married Paula Wehmeier. She died in March of 1966. He was employed at the former Beckmann Brothers until 1941. He was also employed at H. G. Weber in Kiel from 1942 until retiring in 1969. He was a member of St. Peter’s UCC in Kiel. Survivors include one son, one daughter, one granddaughter, one great- grandson, and one brother. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 2, at St. Peter’s UCC Kiel, with Rev. James Sizelove officiating. There will be no visitation. Meiselwitz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Peter’s UCC would be appreciated. (edited for living)

BERTHA KOLICEK cemetery #63 From Der Nord Westen, 28 Jan. 1909: (From the correspondent in Mishicott, 26 Jan.) Word reached here today that Miss Bertha Kolicek, a daughter of Alois Kolicek here, had died in Appleton where she had been staying for several months. The young lady was ill for several weeks and died after being treated in an Appleton hospital. It was hoped that she would improve there, but instead her condition got worse and eventually led to her death. On Monday Mrs. Kolicek traveled to Appleton to be at her bedside, and we don’t yet know if she got there before death occurred. The body was brought here Tuesday and the funeral is set for 9 a.m. Thursday from the Catholic Church to the local cemetery.

As usual, he had taken his son Carl's lunch to him where he worked and was on his way home when he suddenly raised his arms over his head and sank to the ground dead. A heart attack has ended his life. The deceased was born in 1835 in Pomerania and has been a Manitowoc resident since he was 14. He leaves his wife and 3 grown children. The funeral was held Tues. in the city cemetery.

MARY ANN KONEN cemetery #87 Mrs. James J. Konen, 37, of Route 1, Kiel, died February 10 at Calumet Memorial Hospital in Chilton. The former Mary Ann Diehlmann was born September 4, 1939, at Portage, a daughter of Albert and Lillian Benzine Diehlmann. Later the family moved to Howards Grove, where she attended school and graduated with the class of 1957. On July 11, 1959. she married James Konen at Dubuque, Iowa. The couple lived at Millhome and Howards Grove prior to buying a farm in the Town of Schleswig ten years ago. Mrs. Konen was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Louis Corners. (Survivors omitted for privacy) Funeral services were held Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, with the Reverend Adalbert Schultz, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. GERTRUDE KONZ cemetery #83 Mrs. Gertrude Konz passed way at her home in this city on Monday, death being due to the infirmities of old age. Deceased, nee Wolf, was born in Germany Nov. 16, 1841, and came to America in 1845. She was married to John Konz in 1864, and the couple lived on a farm near Calvary for many years. Later they moved on a farm near St. Anna. For about twelve years they lived in Kiel, where Mr. Konz died about two years ago. She leaves nine children to mourn her death. They are: Mrs. S. Steffes of Two Rivers, Mrs. John Meyer of Minn., Mrs. A.E. Williams of Milwaukee, Mrs. Conrad P. Mohr of Sheboygan Falls, Miss Ida Konz of Kiel, Jos. Konz of St. Anna, Math. J. Konz of Racine, Louis P. Konz of Kiel, Edward F. Konz of New Holstein. Also one brother and one sister, William Wolf of Calvary and Mrs. W. Schulder of Chicago. Also 39 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. The funeral will take place today, Thursday, with services at St. Peter and Paul’s church, Rev. O. Kolbe officiating. Interment in the church cemetery.

HELENA "LENA" KONZ cemetery #83 Mrs. Louis Konz, aged 55, passed away Sunday at 10 p.m. at the St. Nicholas hospital in Sheboygan, where she had been confined for several days. The deceased was born in the town of Rhine on March 3, 1886, the daughter of Jacob and Katherine Meyer Kleinhans. Her maiden name was Helena. She was united in marriage with Louis Konz on November 27, 1906 and the couple immediately located in this city, where Mr. Konz is employed at the Stoelting Bros. Company. Survivors are her husband; eight children, namely: Mrs. Armand (Eleanor) Bunge, Mrs. Jerome (Evelyn) Goebel and Lester of this city, Mrs. Harold (Dorothy) Schuepferling, Miss Audrey, and Elmer of Milwaukee; Wilbert of New Holstein, and Elroy at home; six grandchildren; her mother, Mrs. Katherine Kleinhans, aged 83, New Holstein; six brothers, William of California, Nicholas of St. Nazianz, Roman of New Holstein, Clarence of Quinney, Zeno of Milwaukee, and Frank of Hilbert; three sisters, Mrs. Edward Klauck and Mrs. Steve Nichols of New Holstein, and Mrs. John Stemper of Clintonville. Funeral services were conducted this Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, and at 9:30 a.m. at the Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic church. Interment was made in the church cemetery. The deceased was a member of the Altar and Christian Mothers' Society. 1942

JOHN KONZ cemetery #83 CALLED BY DEATH. John Konz, a well-known resident of Kiel, passed to his reward on Wednesday, February 16th, at 10 o’clock p. m. Death was due to dropsy, with which he had been afflicted for nearly a year, being confined to his bed about one month. Decedent was a native of Prussia, where he was born in 1838. He came to America as a child with his parents, who settled in St. Joseph, Fond du Lac coun. After he had grown to manhood he was engaged in the wagon making business with his brother for some years. In 1865 he was married to Gertrude Wolf and the couple settled on a farm near St. Joseph, where they lived until 1893, when the family moved to St. Anna, on a farm. For the last ten years they have lived in retirement in Kiel. The family consisted of twelve children, of whom three have died. Mr. Konz is survived by his widow and the following children: Mrs. J. M. Meyer of New Ulm, Minn., Joseph of St. Anna, Mrs. Simon Steffes of Two Rivers, Mathias of Racine, Edward of New Holstein, Louis and Mrs. Conrad Mohr of Kiel, Mrs. Arthur Williams of Chicago and Miss Ida at home. Also a number of grandchildren; one brother, Fred. of Fond du Lac, and two sisters, Mrs. Jacob Mertes of Iowa and Mrs. Hubert Guelig of Green Bay. The funeral was held on Saturday forenoon, with services at St. Peter and Paul church, Rev. M. Rumpel officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. The children with the exception of Mrs. Meyer of New Ulm, Minn., and the following relatives from outside were in attendance, beside a large concourse of friends: Miss Rose Steffes of Chicago, Fred. JOHN KOPETSKY Cemetery #66 The following was sent in by a researcher/see contributors page KOPETSKY Manitowoc Herald Times, March 30, 1946 issue John Kopetsky, 68, of route 1, Two Rivers, died early today at the farm home in Two Creeks. He had been seriously ill for only a week. Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic church in Tisch Mills at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery there. The body is at the Klein & Stangel Inc. funeral home, Two Rivers, and may be viewed there from 7 o'clock this evening. The rosary will be recited at the funeral home Monday evening. Born on his parents' farm in the town of Two Creeks in 1878, the deceased was the son of John and Anna Mancel Kopetsky. Following his schooling in the town he assisted his father on the farm until 21 years of age when he went to Minnesota, remaining five years. While in Minnesota he married Mathilda Srnsky of Tabor, Minn at East Grand Forks in 1903. The couple remained there until 1905 when they returned to Mr. Kopetsky's former home in Two Creeks. Surviving are the wife, fours sons, Frank and Stanley of Two Rivers, Wenzel and Leo both of route 1, Two Rivers; one daughter, Mrs. Norbert Kimmes of Two Rivers. There are 12 grandchildren. AGNES KOPROWSKY Cemetery #89B Mrs. J. Koprowsky, an old resident of this city, passed away at her home, 2409 Adams Street Saturday morning. Deceased was seventy-six years old, and for the past forty-two years had been a resident of this city. She suffered from asthma. Mrs. Jos. Koprowsky was born in Germany in 1847. In 1881 she, her husband their four children emigrated to America, and came directly to Two Rivers. For a short time the Koprowsky's made their home on a farm near here. Besides her bereaved husband, the deceased is survived by three sons; Michael and August of Milwaukee, and John of Oshkosh; and by one daughter, Anna of this city. JOHN A. KORALEWSKY cemetery #44 John A. Koralewsky, age 76, of Manitowoc, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 25, 2006, at his residence. He was born July 10, 1930, in Kewaunee, son of the late Elmer and Marie (Yauger) Stechmesser. John was a graduate of Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, class of 1948. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict. On Dec. 26, 1953, he married the former Patricia R. White in Manitowoc. John began his employment in Manitowoc as a photographer with the Herald Times Reporter. In 1960, the couple founded Manitowoc Engraving and was active in the business until his retirement. He was a member of AMVETS Post 99. Survivors include his wife, a son and daughter-in-law, a daughter and son-in-law, five grandchilren, five great-grandchildren; and two brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law. Other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law: Robert Gretz. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, at The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc. MARTIN KORINEK cemetery #18 From Der Nord Westen, 31 Dec. 1903: Sat. evening Martin Korinek, a 90-yr. old resident of Town Franklin, left to visit his son who lives in that same town near the old homestead, but never returned. Sun. morning the son called his parent's home and talked with his ill mother and learned that his father had attempted to visit him the night before. The son immediately went along the path to the house and found his father lying on the ground frozen to death. It is believed that the elderly man had given up the idea of visiting because of the cold and turned back toward the house, but was overcome by the cold. Korinek was born in Bohemia and came to Manitowoc County about 40 yrs. ago. He leaves his sorrowing widow and 7 children, among whom is Mrs. Math. Scarda here.

PETER KORNELY cemetery #38 From Der Nord Westen, 14 Mar. 1907: Death Saturday in Holy Family Hospital, following a long illness, of Peter Kornely of typhus. Mr. Kornely, who was well-known throughout the entire county, was born 15 December 1850 in Gau Algosheim, Hesse-Darmstadt, and came to America with his parents as a 2-year old boy, the family settling in Town Kossuth. He spent the greater part of his life there. 35 years ago he married Miss Mary Hessel, daughter of Casper Hessel. He chose public life and filled various town offices for 21 years. In 1900 he was candidate for the office of County Treasurer but lost to Charles Hacker. For the last two years he lived here in Manitowoc and operated a guest house. In addition to his widow he is survived by 3 sons and 5 daughters, as well as 2 brothers living in Milwaukee. The funeral was held Tuesday in Francis Creek under the auspices of the Catholic Knights, to which he belonged for many years.

He has been a healthy man his entire life, until six weeks ago, when he overlifted himself and strained his kidneys, thus causing a poison system which caused his death. The deceased was born at Casco forty-five years ago, where he lived for about twenty years. On February 7, 1899, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Stangel at Cooperstown. For two years they made their home at Tisch Mills, from there they moved to the farm on which he lived until he was taken sick. Mr. Koska was one of the most influential citizens of the town, and enjoyed a wide acquaintance, not only in his home community, but through the western part of the county. Manifesting a deep interest in all matters which tended toward the advancement of the town, and welfare of its people. He was an honest character and respected by all. He is survived by his wife and four children, Frank, Edward, Joseph and Daniel, all living on the farm. Four sisters, Mrs. Jos. Pavlish, Mrs. Frank Hlinak and Mrs. Chas. Mrs. Kostka, nee Anna Pribyl, was born in Algoma in 1900, a daughter of the late Wenzel and Katie Hallada Pribyl. She was married at Kewaunee in 1921 to Frank J. Kostka, a resident of Kewaunee county. After residing in Kewaunee for four years, the family came to Two Rivers, where Mrs. Kostka resided since. For several years she was an employee of the Schwartz Manufacturing Company. Besides her husband, her mother, the latter of Algoma, she leaves two daughters, and two sons. Dies Monday Morning at Home of His Mother at Krok Had Been Employed in Factory at Two Rivers A little over a year ago the Grim Reaper took the husband and father from the family of Mrs. Mary Kostka in West Kewaunee and left the home desolate with the wife and four sons to struggle on alone. On Monday morning at 5:30 o'clock death again entered the home and claimed Edward, the third of the family, after an illness of only one week with blood poisoning. The young man, only twenty years of age, was crippled from the same disease when a young lad and had a deformed leg. A week ago an infection started in his left arm and although everything was done to spare his young life, he died suffering the most intense pain and death was a relief to him as well as to those who had to witness his suffering. Edward Kostka was born on a farm near Tisch mills on Sept. 4, 1902 and was in his twenty-first year. He had been employed by the Aluminum Goods Company at Two Rivers off and on for about a year and until he was taken sick. His health was never of the best and with his disability, made it impossible for him to keep at work steadily. Surviving the deceased are his mother and three brothers, Frank of this city and Joseph and Daniel at home besides numerous other relatives. The funeral took place Wednesday from the late home at Krok and services were conducted at St. Mary's Catholic church at Tisch Mills, Rev. Shimek officiating and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery there besides those of his late father. A large number of relatives and friends followed the body to its last resting place. The sympathy of the community goes out to this family in their great sorrow.

After a wedding breakfast at the home of the brides sister, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Rank in this city the newlyweds sat for their wedding picture at Loughrans studio and then autoed to the brides home at Forestville and later to Sturgeon Bay. The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Koska of the town of West Kewaunee. Both of the newlyweds are popular and well known young people in their respective communities. Both were employed at Two Rivers for the past few years and it was there they met and their romance began that ended so happily Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Koska will reside in this city where the groom has found employment in the factory of the Kewaunee Mfg. Co. OBITUARY - Herald Times Reporter, January 20, 1980 Kostka Frank J. Kostka, 80, of 1105 Park Row Blvd., Manitowoc, died Friday, Jan. 18, at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mark Catholic Church, Two Rivers. The Rev. John Neuser will officiate and burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers. Mr. Kostka was born Aug. 27, 1899, in the Town of Franklin in Kewaunee County, son of the late Frank and Mary Stangel. He was in service in World War II. He married Anna Prybyl Aug. 20, 1921, at Kewaunee, she preceded him in death in 1952. Mr. Kostka then married Anna Hostak, June 25, 1960 at Manitowoc. He worked as a supervisor at Mirro Corp. in shipping retiring in 1961. Survivors include his wife, Anna, two sons, two daughters, a step-daughter, two brothers, 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother Edward. Kostka, age 74, of 1709 Blue Heron Drive, Two Rivers, died Wednesday morning, April 23, 2003 at Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers, after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2003, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Parish, Holy Redeemer Site, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. William O'Brien with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers. Helen was born April 20, 1929 in Two Rivers, daughter of the late James and Delia Spaeth VanSleet. She was a graduate of Washington High School, class of 1947. On Sept. 9, 1950, Helen married her husband at St. Luke Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Helen worked in the office of Schroeder's Department Store before her impaired vision forced her to quit working. She was a lifelong member of St. Luke and Holy Redeemer Catholic churches. In her younger years she was a Girl Scout leader and volunteer with the Ladies of Holy Redeemer. Helen's biggest joy in life was spending precious time with her loving family and many special friends. Her favorite hobbies were sewing, baking, dancing and boating on Lake Michigan and Lake Winnebago. Survivors include her husband of 52 years: Eugene "Gene" Kostka, Two Rivers; one daughter and son-in-law, one granddaughter, one sister and brother-in-law, one brother and sister-in-law, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law. Special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; a brother: Leo VanSleet; a sister: Isabel VanSleet; her mother-in-law and father-in-law: Caroline and Joseph Kostka; and a brother-in-law: LeRoy Vanderbusch. Manitowoc has been her home for almost all of her life. “Things were so different then – milk was delivered and sidewalks were wooden.” She went to Chicago to attend “Mrs. Parson’s School of Physical Education” and remembers Armistice Day: “You couldn’t move, the streets were so mobbed.” She was a kindergarten assistant for several years and then married Edward Koutnik in 1925. MARGARET MARY KOWALSKI cemetery #44 Margaret Mary Kowalski, 96, died peacefully in her sleep on May 3, 2004. Her remarkable journey through life began Jan. 16, 1908, when she was born to Eleanor (Husse) and Anton Pilger in Manitowoc, Wis. She married Bernard Kowalski on Aug. 21, 1926. Bernard died in 1979 while they were living in California. Margaret's greatest joy in life was her family. She was a dearly loved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a real zest for life, a sunny attitude, a delightful sense of humor, was forever young in looks and thoughts, and baked the best kolaches this side of Bohemia. She also was an avid "TV" Packers fan, got a kick out of the Lambeau Leap, and was thrilled when they went to the Super Bowl. Friendships were so precious to her. She loved playing bridge and sheepshead with friends at the De Pere and Allouez Senior Centers and played fiercely competitive games of Scrabble and Rummy with family members. She liked to read, sew, cook, bake, crochet, knit and do crafts of all sorts. Margaret was a member of Resurrection Parish. Margaret is survived by her children, eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Preceding Margaret in death were her parents; her son-in-law, Elton Harpt; her sisters and their spouses, Blanche Benesh, Alice Hudon, Rose Warren, Eleanor Paulson and Mae Mueller; and brothers and their spouses, Michael, Frank and Charles Pilger; sister-in-law, Elsie Nelson; and brothers-in-law, Ervin, Harry, Raymond and Joseph Kowalski. Visitation will be at Resurrection Parish, 333 Hilltop Dr., Green Bay on Thursday, May 6, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m., with the Rev.
