CECELIA ROBINSON cemetery 89D From the Two Rivers Reporter, Thursday, January 10, 1946 DEATH CLAIMS MRS. ROBINSON AT 49 IN CITY Was in Failing Health for Year; Funeral Services Saturday Morning Mrs. Otto Robinson, 49, in failing health for the past year, died at her home 1613 Adams street, early last evening. Seriously stricken 13 weeks ago, Mrs. Robinson was a patient at the Municipal hospital until removed to her home two weeks ago. Funeral services will be held from St. Luke's Catholic church at 10 o'clock Saturday morning, Rt. Rev. Msgr. C.V. Hugo officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross cemetery. The body is at the Klein & Stangel, Inc., funeral home and may be viewed there from Friday morning until the time of services. The rosary will be recited at the funeral home at 8 o'clock Friday evening. Born Cecelia Bonk, Jan. 4, 1897, in Manitowoc, Mrs. Robinson was the daughter of Martin and Margaret Vnuk Bonk. Following her graduation from St. Mary's parochial school in Manitowoc she moved to this city with her parents. As a young lady she was employed at the Aluminum Goods Manufacturing company here. She was married to Otto Robinson at St. Luke's Catholic church, Oct. 21, 1914, and the couple continued to make their home in this city. For a year previous to her recent illness, Mrs. Robinson was employed in Plant No. 4 of the Aluminum Goods Manufacturing company. She was a member of the St. Luke's Altar society. Husband, Four Children Survive Surviving, in addition to the husband, are one son, three daughters and one grandchild. Also surviving is a brother, Martin Bonk of Manitowoc.

JOHN ROBINSON cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 14 Mar. 1907: Death Thursday afternoon last week of John Robinson, a well-known resident of our city. The deceased was born 1823 in England, came to America in 1844, then came to Manitowoc County in the early 50’s and operated a farm in Town Kossuth before retiring to Manitowoc a few years ago. John Robinson was elected to several town offices and represented his district for one term in the State Assembly. He leaves his sorrowing widow, one son and one daughter. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the city cemetery.

VIOLET A. ROBINSON cemetery #44 Violet A. Robinson, 81, formerly of Manitou Manor, died Friday, July 8, 2005 at Aurora Medical Center, Manitowoc County. Violet was born Nov. 27, 1923 at Maribel, daughter of the late Edward & Anna (Decker) Salta. She grew up in Mishicot and married Joseph Robinson Feb. 15, 1941. He preceded her in death. Violet was a seasonal worker at Lakeside Foods for 19 years. Violet enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren, was a good cook and baker, an avid reader of mysteries, worked puzzle books and word searches. She was a member of Manitowoc Senior Citizens. (Survivors omitted for privacy) In addition to her parents, Violet is predeceased by three sons: Joseph, Jr., Gene and Gary Robinson; great-granddaughter: Emily Robinson; two brothers: Paul and Roman Salta; sister-in-law: Margaret Salta; brother-in-law: Robert Nichols. ELMER JOHN ROCHLUS cemetery #82 Elmer John Raymond Rochlus, aged 11, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Rochlus of here, passed away at the home of his parents Saturday afternoon, 12:45 o'clock, after an illness of elven weeks' duration. Elmer was born in Kiel February 15, 1922. He attended the Kiel public school and was in the fifth grade the past year and in June of this year was promoted to the sixth grade. He also attended the Sunday School of the Church of the Good Shepherd (Presbyterian) and was a member of the 1934 confirmation class of that church. He is survived by his parents, a brother Anthony at home, and a sister, Mrs. Harry Lindow of Sheboygan. A brother, Reuben, preceded him in death 21 years ago. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the family residence 513 Hein St., and at two o'clock at the Church of the Good Shepherd. The choir of the church sang: "One Sweetly Solemn Thought," "That Sweet Story of Old," and "Sweet By and By." The Rev. James W. MacElree was in charge of the last rites and burial was made in the Kiel cemetery, alongside of his brother Reuben. Pallbearers were: Dale Green, Carlton Schroeder, David Martin, Lloyd Kissinger, Arthur Kaemmer Jr., and Wallace Johnson Jr. The deceased was a member of the Kiel assemby of the E. R. A. No. 140.
JOHN ROCHLUS cemetery #82 John Rochlus Passes Away Residents here were surprised Wednesday morning, when they learned of the death of John Rochlus, aged 58, who had passed away at 6:30 Tuesday evening at his home at 513 South 5th street after an illness of two weeks. The deceased was the son of Anton and Luctia Rochlus, and was born March 16, 1882 in Berenbach, Germany. In June, 1886 he came to this country with his parents, and located at St. Cloud. For some time the Rochlus family resided in Sheboygan, and later took up their residence in Kiel, where they have resided since. He was married to Emma Henschel of the town of Russell on May 12, 1907, and both were residents of this city ever since. Mr. Rochlus was a veteran employee for 34 years of the A. A. Laun Furniture Company plant in this city. Four children were born to the couple of whom a son, Elmer, died August 5, 1933, and a son Reuben died at the age of two weeks. Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Harry (Gertrude) Lindow of Sheboygan; one son, Anthony of North Tonawanda, New York; 2 grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Grube of Sheboygan, Mrs. Joseph Wittmer, Mrs. Herman Menz and Mrs. Arthur Remes of Sheboygan, and four brothers, Lawrence of Sheboygan, Jacob of Milwaukee, Ben B. of Cleveland, Olhio, and Frank of Kohler. Funeral services will be held on Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the home, and at 2 o'clock from the Presbyterian church, with the Rev. Frank Zimmerman officiating. Burial will be made in the Kiel cemetery. Body may be viewed at the home from Thursday on.

(Note: This is the only cem. in Newton twp. with the surname Rock. A John is with Catherine here so I'm putting this obit with Catherine and John.)
HERMAN ROCKHOFF cemetery #44 From Der Nord Westen, 09 Aug. 1888: Hermann Rockhoff, a worker at the firm of Lehmkuhl & Dicke, went missing Sat. evening. He had attended the evening meal, then went out to complete the purchase of a cow but he never came back. A nightlong search by his loved ones brought no results. On Tues. morning, a son of the missing man went to a piece of land the family owned in Town Manitowoc, only to find his father lying lifeless on the floor of one of the barns. The son brought the news of his discovery into the city and as a result Justice of the Peace O’Hara went out to conduct a coroner’s inquest. Dr. Luhmann was appointed to conduct a postmortem, and he testified that the deceased’s heart was completely shattered and that a heart attack had taken the man’s life. Why Rockhoff, after completing his cow transaction, didn’t return home but instead went out to his land, remains unclear. The burial took place yesterday noon. ******* [cause: heart disease]

John Roeck, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Gustave Stoelting, where she has made her home for the passed(sic) 11 years, on Friday afternoon, at 2:30 o'clock, after having been ill only three days. She had been in attendance at church services at the St. Peter Reformed church the previous Sunday. Mrs. Roeck, nee Anna Herrmann, was born in Sortheim, in the Province of Wittenberg, Germany, on December 22, 1848. She was married to the Rev. John Roeck, of the Prvince of Baden, Germany in 1878. Soon after their marriage, they came to this country and located at Philadelphia, Pa., where the Rev. Mr. Roeck took charge of St. Paul's Reformed church in that city, remaining there for four years. While still in the old country, the Rev. Mr. Roeck was engaged as a Missionary in Africa, for five years. In the year 1877, Mr. and Mrs. Roeck moved to Ebenezer, New York, where Mr. Roeck took charge of the Reformed church there for 13 years. In 1892 the roeck family moved to Kiel where the Rev. Mr. Roeck took charge of the St. Peter Reformed church, which congregation he served faithfully until 1905, when he retired from the ministry and was succeeded by the late Rev. William Rech. The Rev. E.L. Worthman, formerly of Kaukauna, is now pastor of the church. The Rev. Mr. Roeck preceded his wife in death on May 10, 1915, and since the death of her husband, Mrs. Roeck has been making her home with her children. Ten children were born to the Rev. and Mrs. Roeck, of whom two preceded her in death, one son passed away in infancy, and a daughter, Mrs. Jennie Diettrich passed away in May 1923. Survivors are four daughters and four sons, namely: Mrs. Adolph (Pauline) Zimmermann of Mellen; Mrs. Gustave (Anna) Stoelting, Mrs. Mary Duecker and Mrs. Oscar (Mathilda) Kazmeier of here; Emanuel of Chicago, Christian of here, John of New Holstein, and the Rev. Carl Roeck of Toledo, Ohio. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Mrs. Roeck was a charter member of the Frauenverein of the St. Peter Reformed church which was organized on March 23, 1900, and of which Verein she was elected first president, an office which she held for many years. Pallbearers were six grandsons of the deceased: George Duecker, Walter Roeck, Lawrence Roeck, Carl Diettrich, Herman Stoelting and Carl Zimmermann. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the Stoelting home, followed by impressive services at the St. Peter Reformed church, at two o'clock. The Rev. E.L. Worthman, paster of the church, read the life history of the deceased, and preached the English sermon. Prof. William Grosshuesch of the Mission House, read the favorite scripture passage of the deceased. Prof. Alvin Grether of the Mission House, preached the German Sermon, and the Rev. William Bollmann, pastor of the Bethel Reformed church, of the town of Herman, offered the prayer. The Senior Choir of the church sang "Jesu Geh Voran," and "Heimatland." Mrs. Eugene Diettrich of Sheboygan sang "Lend Me Thine Eyes," accompanied by Mrs. A. Roland Griebenow at the pipe organ. The Frauenverein of the church attended the services in a body. HELEN ROECK cemetery #82 Rites Held Monday For Mrs. Helen Roeck Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Mrs. Helen Roeck, 69, who died suddenly at her home Friday afternoon. The services were conducted by the Rev. Jerome Jaberg at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home. Burial was made in the Kiel cemetery. Born in Kiel, September 6, 1887, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Duecker. She attended Kiel schools and was married to Christian Roeck in 1906. For 40 years they operated Roeck's Bakery. Mr. Roeck died in 1949. She was a llifelong member of St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed church at Kiel, a member of the Ladies' Aid Society of the church, of the Kiel Frauenverein and of Paradise Rebekah Lodge. She leaves two sons, Harry J. and Lawrence, both of Neenah; one daughter, Mrs. Lloyd (Evelyn) Postel, Kiel; five grandchildren, and one great- grandchild. Two sons and two brothers preceded her in death.
REV. JOHANNES ROECK cemetery #82 On Monday, at noon, after a lengthy illness, Reverend Johannes Roeck passed away in his home. The deceased, who had been the pastor at Reformed St. Peters Church for eleven years, had diabetes and had reached the age of 71 years, 6 months and 2 days. He had been blind for over a year and his death came as a release. Pastor Roeck was born on November 8, 1843 in Kirnbach, Grossherzogthum, Baden, Germany. As an eleven-year-old boy, he was orphaned and worked until he was 21 years old as a farm hand. In 1864, he enrolled as a student at the Mission House in Basel to become a missionary to pagans. After six years of study, he went to West Africa as a missionary, where he remained for two years and then because of continuous fever illness he had to return to Germany to regain his health. There he married Anna Hermann and in 1873 they immigrated to America. After working for several years in Philadelphia and Buffalo as pastor, he came to Kiel in 1892 where he was the pastor until the fall of 1903, when his health made it necessary for him to retire. He leaves behind his wife, 4 sons, 5 daughters and 16 grand- children. The burial will take place today, (Thursday) this afternoon at the Kiel Cemetery. LEON O. ROECK cemetery #82 Sheboygan Press November 11, 1972 (edited) Leon O. Roeck, 60, of 319 Fremont St., Kiel, operator of Roeck's Bakery there, died at his home Friday evening of an apparent heart attack. He was born April 9, 1912 at Marshfield, son of the late Emmanuel and Martha Mietzel Roeck. He had lived at Kiel since 1918. On Sept. 2, 1937 he married the former Edna Schmitt, at Manitowoc. Mr. Roeck purchased the bakery in 1950. He was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ, Kiel; the Kiel Area Chamber of Commerce; Manitowoc Tribe 49, Improved Order of Redman, and the 24-hour Club of the lodge; the Valley Bakers Co-op, and a director of the Cedar Lake Improvement Association. Survivors are his wife; two sons both affiliated with the bakery business; seven grandchildren; a stepmother, and a sister, and two brothers, He was preceded in death by a son, a grandson and a brother. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Peter UCC with the Rev. John F. Baumann, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Kiel Cemetery. Friends may call at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, after 4 p.m. Sunday until 11 a.m. Monday and at the church from noon until the time of services. A memorial fund for St. Peter UCC has been established in Mr. Roeck's name.

FERDINANDINE ROEFFS cemetery #43 From Der Nord Westen, 10 Apr. 1902: Death in the local Holy Family Hospital on Fri. of Mrs. Ferdinandia Roefs following an operation which she had to undergo several weeks ago. Mrs. Roefs lived in our city for the past 47 years and reached the age of 67. Mourning her death are 2 sons and a daughter, the last mentioned having left on a journey to Germany 2 months ago where she still remains. The funeral took place Mon. morning from the Catholic Church.
ANNA ROEHL cemetery #81 Mrs. Anna Roehl, 73, Succumbs After Illness At Her Home Suffering for some time from diabetes, Mrs. Anna Roehl, 73, passed away at 9 a. m. on Monday at her home in the town of Schleswig. The deceased, nee Roehrborn, was born April 9, 1858 in the town of Herman. On April 20, 1879, she was united in marriage to Christ. Roehl, who preceded her in death. To this union four children were born - Mrs. George Rabe of Schleswig, Arthur of New Holstein, Henry of the town of Eaton, and Edgar on the homestead farm. She is survived also by two sisters and one brother, who reside in Milwaukee, and by seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Wednesday of this week, the Rev. August E. Hammann of Schleswig performing the last rites. The Ladies' Aid Society, of which she was a member, attended in a body. Burial was in the church cemetery.
AUGUST F. ROEHL cemetery #86 August F. Roehl, 79, town of Schleswig, passed away at St. Nicholas hospital Monday afternoon. He had been a patient at the hospital since fracturing his hip in a fall six weeks ago. He was born in the town of Meeme on Dec. 4, 1871, a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Roehl. When he was nine years of age the family moved to Peshtigo, and he returned to Schleswig in 1904. He was married there to Helena Quante on Sept. 10, 1908, and the couple settled on the Quante family homestead farm. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Elsie, at home; one brother, Otto, of Marinette; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Kamps of Marinette, Mrs. Gussie Kamka of Peshtigo, and Mrs. Charles Rasmussen of Colby. One brother and one sister preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, at the Zion Lutheran church, Louis Corners. The Rev. William Hartwig will officiate and burial will be made in Union cemetery. The body will lie in state from 2 a.m., today, until 10 a.m., Thursday, at the Meiselwitz Funeral home, Kiel, and from 11 a.m., Thursday, until the hour of services, the body can be viewed at the church. CHRISTIAN ROEHL Christian Roehl Dies At Home Of Son Thursday Christian Roehl, aged 88, former town of Schleswig farmer, died at 7:55 p.m. Thursday at the home of his son, Edgar, in Sheboygan, following an illness of two weeks. Mr. Roehl was born in Germany on Dec. 27, 1857, and came to this country with his parents in 1871. The family settled in Schleswig. On April 20, 1878 he was married to Miss Anna Roehrborn, and the couple located in the town of Newton, where they remained for two years, and then settled in the town of Schleswig on the homestead. Mrs. Roehl passed away in 1932, and for the past six years Mr. Roehl has been making his home in Sheboygan. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. George Rabe of Kiel; two sons, Henry of Plymouth, and Edgar of Sheboygan; a sister, Mrs. Anna Arends of Chicago; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Three sons and a daughter have preceded him in death. Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at 1:15 o'clock at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, and at 2 o'clock at the Bethlehem Evangelical and Reformed church in the town of Schleswig, with the Rev. Charles Reppert officiating. Burial was made in the church cemetery.
HELENA J. ROEHL cemetery #86 Mrs. August Roehl, 89, of R. 1, Kiel, Town of Schleswig, died early today at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan where she had been a patient the past three weeks. The former Helena Quante, she was born at R. 1, Kiel, March 9, 1874, the daughter of the late August Quante and Bertha Zorn. She attended district schools in the Town of Schleswig and on Sept. 10, 1908, was married to August Roehl of Peshtigo at the Zion Lutheran Church, Louis Corners. The couple settled on the homestead farm at R. 1, Kiel, after their marriage. Mr. Roehl died in 1950. Mrs. Roehl was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church at Louis Corners and a member of the Ladies Aid Society of the church. Surviving is one daughter, Miss Elsie, at home. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church, the Rev. Adalbert Schultz, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in the Town of Schleswig. IRENE ROEHL cemetery #20 Mrs. Edgar Roehl, 77, of 3125 N. 27th St., died Thursday afternoon at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient the past five days. The former Irene Westphalen, she was born Jan. 12, 1899 in the Town of Eaton, Manitowoc County, a daughter of Ferdinand and Amelia Lechler Westphalen she attended district school. On Sept. 18, 1917 she was married to Mr. Roehl at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig. After marriage the couple operated a farm in the Town of Schleswig until 1937, when they moved to Sheboygan. Mrs. Roehl was employed at Wolff’s Laundry until retiring 15 years ago. The couple observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1967. She was a member of St. John UCC in Sheboygan and the Eaton Ladies Aid. Survivors are her husband: a daughter, Mrs. Sylvester (Elda) Neuber of Sheboygan; a son, Elmer of Gretna, La.; four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Herman Buchholz of rural Kiel. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel. The Rev. Clarence Schmidt, assistant pastor of St. John UCC. will officiate. ELLA ROEHR cemetery #82 Mrs. Ella Roehr, 72, of Kiel, died at 5:45 p.m. Saturday at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan where she had been a patient for the past 2-1/2 weeks. The former Ella Gruhle was born March 20, 1892, in Rockville in the Town of Schleswig, a daughter of the late William and Dora Gruhle and attended the district school at Rockville. She was married to Herman Roehr of Kiel on Oct. 7, 1916. He died Nov. 19, 1953. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kiel and the Presbyterian Women's Association of the church. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Norbert (Gladys) Rock of Kiel, Mrs. James (Betty) Weber of rural New Holstein; six grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. John Burmahln of rural Kiel, and one brother, Atty. Arthur H. Gruhle of Sheboygan. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Kiel. The Rev. Allen L. Bowe, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in the Kiel Cemetery. HERMAN ROEHR cemetery #82 Herman Roehr, 66, former Kiel fire chief and president of the Kiel Savings and Loan Association, passed away Sunday evening at his home, 814 3rd St., Kiel. He was born in Kiel on Sept. 30, 1887, the son of Frederick and Wilhelmina Mathes Roehr. He was married to the former Miss Ella Gruhle of Kiel on Oct. 7, 1916. The couple always made their home in Kiel. Mr. Roehr was a charter member of the Kiel Savings and Loan Association and served as president at the time of his death. He was one of the few remaining members of the old Kiel Arion Band, a charter member of the Kiel Improved order of Redmen and also a member of the Kiel branch of the Equitable Reserve Association. He served as chief of the Kiel fire department for many years prior to his retirement about 15 years ago. He was an honorary member of the department since his retirement. For 51 years he was employed by the A. A. Laun Furniture Co., as a band saw operator. Mr. Roehr was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church and was a former trustee and elder of the congregation. He was a member of the Men's Club of the church. The survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Norbert (Gladys) Rock of Kiel, and Mrs. James (Betty) Weber of New Holstein; four grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Mary Behrends of Plymouth. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Allen L. Bowe officiating. Burial will be made in the Kiel cemetery. Friends may call at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home from 3 p.m Tuesday to 10 a.m. Wednesday. The body will lie in state at the church from 11 a.m. to the time of services on Wednesday.

FRED ROEHRDANZ cemetery #84 Fred Roehrdanz, 78, Passes Away on Thursday Kiel – Fred Roehrdanz, age 78, former resident of Manitowoc county, passed away following an illness, on Thursday afternoon at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Rothmann of Calumet Habor. He was born in Germany and came to America at the age of two with his parents. He spent his early boyhood in Mercer county, Pennsylvania and at the age of 19 came to Wisconsin. They then settled on a farm in Charlestown. On March 26, 1893, he was married to Mary Pingel. The couple made their home on a farm in Town Schleswig, near Rockville, until 1934 when they sold the farm and made their home with Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Rothmann at Calumet Harbor. He is survived by his wife, Mary, and five daughters, they are: Mrs. Herman (Hilma) Pagel, Mrs. Meta Schaefer of Kiel, Mrs. Glenn (Edna) Rothmann and Mrs. Garland (Alma) Burg of Calumet Harbor, and Mrs. Eldred (Clara) Voland, of North Tonowanda, New York. Thirteen grandchildren survive but two brothers and one sister preceded him in death. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on March 26 of this year. Funeral services will be held on Sunday afternoon at the Meiselwitz Funeral home in Kiel beginning at 2 o’clock. Burial will be made in the Rockville cemetery. The Rev. MARY ROEHRDANZ cemetery #84 Mrs. Mary Roehrdanz, 85, a resident of the town of Calumet, Fond du Lac county, passed away Sunday evening at St. Agnes Hospital, Fond du lac, following a short illness. Born March 26, 1868, in the town of Schleswig, Manitowoc county, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Pingel, she attended school there and on March 26, 1893, was married to Fred Roehrdanz. Following their marriage they operated a farm in the town of Schleswig until their retirement in 1934 when they moved to the town of Calumet. Her husband passed away in 1943, and since that time she made her home with her daughters, and for the past year with a daughter, Mrs. Alma Burg of the town of Calumet. Survivors are five daughters, Mrs. Herman (Hilma) Pagel of the town of Schleswig, Mrs. Meta Schaefer of Kiel, Mrs. Edna Rothman of Fond du lac, Mrs. Alma Burg of the town of Calumet and Mrs. Joseph (Clara) Yehle of Elkhart Lake; 12 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, three sisters preceded her in death. Mr. and Mrs. Roehrdanz observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1943. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Reformed Church in the town of Calumet with the Rev. C.A. Voll officiating, and burial will be in the Rockville cemetery.
