   in Manitowoc Co., WI, USA.3  
In 1855, Stephan Rapl lived in Rockland (which is listed under Maple Grove), 
   Manitowoc Co., WI.  He is the head of the following household: 4 males, 
   1 female all five of foreign birth.  
In 1860 Stephen Repel lives in Rockland, Manitowoc Co. on a farm which has a

his wife’s maiden name)   He was also known as Wenzel Piskel.2  His name on 
the census could have been Pishel or Piskel.  He was also known as Wenzl Pischl.8  
He was also known as Wencl Pieschl.13  He was also known as Wenzel Pischel.15

declaration of intent to become a citizen was November 3, 1854.  
He died between 1866 and 1870.1  He died on Jul 18 1867 in Manitowoc Co.,

3.	John Rapel is assumed to be related to Stephen Rapl, because they both 
        settled in the same area at about the same time.  John Rapel would be 
        the right age to be Stephen Rapl’s son.  In 1860, he is the only member 
        of the household listed after Stephen Rapl.

   horse.  "he went to the cheese factory with a horse and wagon and the horse must 
   have been spooked.  Sounds like he must have been thrown from the wagon, 
   suffering a lethal injury - he died a few days later." (PRF)

In 1870, John (dwelling 79) lives in Cato, Manitowoc Co on a farm with wife 
   Susanah and children: Joseph and Mary Rapl.  Catherine Bisell age 10 (b. 1860) 
   also lives with them.  Catherine Bisell might be Catherine Pisell and therefore 
   might be John's sister's daughter.  Anna (Rapl) Pischel's daughter Catherine is 
   listed in 1870 (b. 1860) as living with them.  Was the girl visiting her uncle 
   when the census was recorded?

			"Marcus J. Rappel pursued his education in the country schools 
                          of Cato Falls until he reached the age of twelve years. At 
                          that time he entered a business college in Wisconsin and 
                          subsequently took a course in the agricultural department 
                          of the University of Wisconsin. Thus prepared to institute 
                          modern methods in agricultural pursuits he returned to his 
                          father's home and assisted in the various duties there for 
                          about nine years. The greater part of this time was spent in 
                          the manufacture of cheese. When he left home he accepted the 
                          position he at present occupies. Fraternally he is connected 
                          with the Catholic Order of Foresters. Although he is still a 
                          young man he is well known as one who has made no backward 
                          steps in his career but is constantly striving toward the 
                          goal of prosperity, making use of whatever opportunities 
                          present themselves."
