Louise Meyer is a daughter of Wilhelm and Maria Meyer. ********** From Manitowoc county death records: Louisa Best nee Meyer (v.19 p.663) April 13, 1852-March 2, 1923 Daughter of “Mr. Meyer” with mother unknown Born Germany Died from “pneumonia –influenza” Buried at Thorp, Wisconsin ********** Called By Death Mrs. Louise Best, one of the old-time residents of the town of Schleswig, passed to her reward on Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock, at her home in this city, after several weeks illness with lagrippe. Decedent, nee Meyer, was born in Mardorf, Hannover, Germany, April 13, 1852. She came to America in 1875 with her sister and made her home with her brother, who lived at Millhome. She was united in marriage to Carl Best in 1876, and the couple made their home on a farm in Schleswig, near Kiel. For the past three years she has resided in Kiel, where she lived with her son Louis. Mr. Best died about a year ago. The survivors are two sons and two daughters; one sister and one brother in Germany and one sister in Millhome; also nine grandchildren. The funeral services took place Monday morning at 8 o'clock, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Voss. Rev. W. Rech officiated. The remains were shipped to Thorp, the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dora Mathes, for burial. - 1923 hand written at bottom ************* From death record: Charles Best, Sr. [little information is given on death record –it does seems to read that he was “divorced” Died Jan. 1, 1922 Died from “chronic myocarditis –general debility” Died in Town of Schleswig Buried at Rockville Cemetery ************* CALLED BY DEATH Carl Best, an old and well-known resident of the town of Schleswig, passed away at his home on Saturday night at the advanced age of 77 years. Death was due to the infirmities of old age. Decedent was born in Dheinheim, Hessen-Darmstadt, Germany, Sept. 16, 1844 and came to America in 1853 with his parents, who settled in the town of Rhine near the Sheboygan river. Two years later his father, Peter Best, purchased 120 acres of fine farming land in the town of Schleswig, two miles south-east of Kiel, which later became the property of the son Carl, who resided on the place until his death. He was married in 1876 to Louise Meyer, who survives him, with two sons and two daughters, namely, Louis of Kiel and Carl on the old homestead, Mrs. Ph. Mattes of Thorp and Mrs. Wm. Voss of Kiel. He also leaves nine grandchildren, one brother, Louis, of Sioux Falls, Dak., and two sisters, Mrs. Kate Hartmann of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Mrs. Susanna Frick, of Milwaukee. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon interment being in the Rockville cemetery. Rev. W. Rech officiated. Jan. 5, 1922 (no newspaper named)
