Mrs. Casper, Rudolph, Dies
Mrs. Joseph Casper, 81, a resident of the community for 
45 years, died at her home in the town of Rudolph at 
7 o’clock this morning following a long illness. Funeral 
services will be held Monday morning at St. Philip’s 
Catholic church, Rudolph, with the Rev. P. J. Wagner 
officiating. Interment will be in Calvary cemetery.  
Mrs. Casper was born in Calumet County, Michigan, August 2, 
1864, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Nennig, and was 
married to Mr. Casper at St. Nazianz November 22, 1887.  
Surviving are the husband and nine children, Mrs. Joseph 
Hoch and Mrs. Elizabeth Morrison, Chicago; Mrs. Peter 
Hillebrand, Mauston; Mrs. G. E. Fairbanks, Seattle, Wash.; 
Mrs. Marie Casey, Minneapolis; Joseph Casper Jr., Bancroft; 
George Casper, Mrs. Fred Habeck and Michael Casper all of 
Wisconsin Rapids; four brothers, John, George, Michael and 
Joseph Nennig, all of Chilton; two sisters, Mrs. Anton 
Herzog, Chilton and Mrs. Mary Ferry, Chicago; 17 
grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Mrs. Christel of St. Nazianz Dies After An Illness
St. Nazianz - Mrs. Richard Christel, aged 82, resident
here for many years, died at 2 a.m. today at the home of
her son, Joe W. Christel, after a lingering illness.
Mrs. Christel was born in Germany May 21, 1849 and came
here at the age of 3 years with her parents, who settled
in St. Nazianz. Mrs. Christel, nee Mary Stahl, was married
to Mr. Christel at St. Nazianz Feb. 6, 1888. She was a 
member of the Christian Mothers' Sociality and the Third
Order of St. Francis.
Thirteen children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Christel, 
six of whom are living. They are: two daughters, Mrs. Jack
Krupp of St. Ann and Mrs. Katie Fimon of St. Nazianz;
four sons, Joe W. Christel and Albert of St. Nazianz and 
Henry and Edward, who live near New Holstein. A brother,
Frank Stahl of Wisconsin Rapids, 29 grandchildren and
23 great grandchildren also survive. Mr. Christel preceded
his wife in death six years ago.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10
o'clock at St. Gregory's church at St. Nazianz with the
Rev. Holzknecht officiating.

ST. NAZIANZ
Mrs. Richard Christel, aged 82, a pioneer resident of Manitowoc county,
passed away on Monday afternoon, at the home of her son John W. Christel,
two miles west of this village. Death was due to infirmities incident to
old age. She had been making her home with her son for the past several
months. Mrs. Christel was born in Germany May 21, 1849, and came to this
country at the age of three years with her parents, who settled in this
village. Mrs. Christel, nee Mary Stahl, was married to Richard Christel
here on February 6, 1868, and to this union 13 children were born, of
which six are living, namely: Two daughters, Mrs. Jacob Krupp of St.
Anna and Mrs. Katie Simon of here; and four sons, John W. Christel and
Albert of this village, and Henry and Edward of near New Holstein. A
brother, Frank Stahl of Wisconsin Rapids, 29 grandchildren, and 23 great-
grandchildren also survive. Mr. Christel preceded his wife in death six
years ago. Funeral services were held Wednesday moning at 10 o'clock at
St. Gregory's church here, with the Rev. Fintan Holzknecht officiating.

when Maria Proell died in 1868, re-married to Mary Stahl 1849-1931 
[married Feb. 6, 1869 at St. Gregory] –son of Norbert and Amalia Christel 
–born Einsiedl, Bohemia –arrived in Baltimore with his parents and 7 siblings 
on the ship Adler from Bremen, Germany on July 30, 1855 –farmer 
on Nov. 5, 1904 purchased the 119 acre farm at 16603 County C –owned this 
farm until selling on July 10, 1909 to his son Albert F. Christel 
–on March 4, 1904 purchased the house at 112 South Second Avenue –lived in 
this house until his death in 1925 –his widow Mary continued to live here 
until her death in 1931 –died from “exhaustion in the course of senile 
psychosis –bladder sinus”) – 3-1-12

born of Richard Christel and Mary Stahl on April 13, 1876.  Elizabeth then 
died on Aug. 8, 1876.  Bertha went on to marry Andrew Madson.

ST. NAZIANZ
Mrs. Andrew Madson passed away at the Holy Family hospital at Manitowoc on
Sunday, following an operation on the gall. She was born in this village
50 years ago, and on July 23, 30 years ago was married to Mr. Madson, when
the couple located on a farm one mile west of the village. The survivors,
besides the husband, are one daughter, Mrs. Richard Beckstrom and two sons,
Louis and Joseph, all of here. Besides these she is survived by her aged
mother, Mrs. Richard Christel, three brothers, Albert Christel, Joseph,
Edward and Henry Christel, and two sisters, Mrs. Jacob Krupp of St. Anna
and Mrs. Kate Simon, of St. Nazianz. The funeral was conducted at St.
Gregory's church Wednesday, at 9:30 a.m. The Rev. E. Deibele officiated,
and interment made in the adjoining cemetery.

village.

St. Nazianz The sad news reached here Thursday of the death 
of Richard Christel of Appleton. 
The funeral service was held at Appleton Monday. Those from 
here who attended were Mrs. Leo Schwab, Mr. and Mrs. Albert
