Friedrich Loewenhagen and Lucy Veers (v.3 p.179) Sept. 5, 1895 in civil ceremony, Town of New Holstein Friedrich Loewenhagen Son of Lorenz Loewenhagen and Sophia Beyerstedt Born Town of New Holstein Machinist at Aspen, Colorado Lucy Veers Daughter of Ernst Veers and Bertha Greening Born Town of New Holstein Witnesses John Veers and Claus Wichmann ******** Friedrich born 1862 died May 1, 1928 Lucy Veers born 27 Feb 1870 died 14 Aug 1960 ******** Friedrich, or Fred as he was called out here, surveyed for the mines in Thomasville and Aspen and then later for the narrow gauge Uinath Railroad here in Colorado and Utah, and platted the town of Fruita and did the water sytstem for Fruita and all the roads around. He was also surveying ditches and irrigation projects. He was injured in a horse and buckboard accident while on a remote surveying trip and later died from his injuries in 1928. It's always been family lore that Lucy's family did not want her to come "West" and did not give her blessing. (info from Lucy Rickman)

From Calumet county death records: Sophia Loewenhagen nee Beyerstedt (v.4 p.64) May 12, 1834-Feb. 22, 1905 Widow of Lawrence Loewenhagen Parents not named on record Born Germany Died from “old age” Buried at New Holstein Cemetery ******** With the death of Mrs. Sophia Loewenhagen, which occurred at one o’clock on Wednesday, another old settler passed away. The deceased was born in Germany 71 years ago and some fifty years ago she came to New Holstein. She kept house for her brother a few years and then was married to Lorenz Loewenhagen and lived on a farm 2 1/2 miles west of the village. In 1862 her husband enlisted in the army and died in a hospital in Georgia. Mrs. L. was appointed postmistress of the village and held the position for some 24 years. She was a woman whom everyone liked because of her kind disposition. The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon. Chilton Times, February 26, 1905 ******** Her husband was killed in the Civil War. After the war, Sophia became the postmaster at New Holstein and held that position for many years.
