Mr. Mahlberg was born in the town of Brothertown, Calumet county, April 12, 1857, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter J. Mahlberg. On June 8, 1886, he was united in marriage to Mary Halbach of Marytown and the couple resided on a farm near Charlesburg for one year, after which they conducted a store and a tavern in the town for 36 years. A few years ago Mr. Mahlberg retired. A life-long resident of Calumet county, active in Catholic organizations and the civic life of the community, Mr. Mahlberg was well acquainted in this vicinity. He was a charter member of the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin, Branch 118 and treasurer of the organization for 44 years. He was also a member of the Holy Name society. For a period of 25 years Mr. Mahlberg served as clerk of the town of Brothertown. Mr. Mahlberg is survived by eight sons and daughters: Casper of Kiel; Mrs. Simon Hoffmann, Jericho; Mrs. Edward Stemper, New Holstein; Severin, Glenbeulah; Mrs. Walter Dodd, Oshkosh; Mrs. Floyd Blomquist, Rockford, Ill.; Mrs. Emil Shirza, Milwaukee; and Emil at home; 18 grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Anton Keuler, Mt. Calvary, and Mrs. Anton Daun, Charlesburg. Mrs. Mahlberg preceded her husband in death Nov. 18, 1935, and a son, Gottfried, died in 1921. Funeral services were held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m., in St. Charles church, Charlesburg. The Rev. Leo Binder officiated and interment was made in the church cemetery. Mrs. Mahlberg, nee Mary Halbach, was born at Marytown on November 29, 1867, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Halbach. She was united in marriage to Nicholas Mahlberg in 1886 at St. Mary's church there. The couple resided on a farm at Marytown for one year and then moved to Charlesburg, where they conducted a general store, dance hall and tavern until twelve years ago when they retired. Mrs. Mahlberg was a member of the Christian Mothers' society of St. Charles church, Charlesburg. Survivors are: her husband, three sons, Casper of here, Severin of Glenbeulah and Emil at home; five daughters, Mrs. Simon Hoffmann of Jerico, Mrs. Edward Stemper of New Holstein, Mrs. Walter Dodd of Oshkosh, Mrs. Floyd Bloomquist of Rockford, Illinois; Mrs. Emil Shirza of Milwaukee; three sisters, Mrs. Catherine Schomer of Kloten, Mrs. Anna Olson of Milwaukee, Mrs. Joseph Schmidt of Sherwood, and a brother, Stephen Halbach, Fond du Lac. Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 10 a.m. at St. Charles church at Charlesburg. The Rev. Leo Binder will officiate and burial will be made in the cemetery of Charlesburg.
