The deceased was born near Milwaukee and reached the age of 61 years. He is survived by his wife, nee Caroline Fehrenbach, and seven sons. Mr. Steffen formerly resided on a farm two miles north of St. Nazianz. The funeral services took place on Saturday morning in the Cath. church at School Hill, with interment in the church cemetery. Rev. Michaels officiated. ********** From Manitowoc county death records: Caroline Steffen nee Feherenbach (v.32 p.299) Oct. 20, 1859-July 28, 1938 Wife of John Steffen Daughter of Joseph and Caroline Feherenbach (both born Germany) Born Germany Died from “heart disease –coronary sclerosis –myocardial failure –senility” Buried at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery, School Hill, Town of Meeme ********** Plan Rites For Caroline Steffen At School Hill St. Nazianz, Wis.—(Special)—Funeral services for Caroline Steffen, 78, who passed away Thursday morning at her home in town of Schleswig, near School Hill, will be held Saturday morning at 9:30 o’clock at the Holy Trinity church, School Hill. The Rev. Solanus Freischmidt, S.D.S., will be in charge of the services and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Steffen was born Caroline Fehrenbach Oct. 20, 1859, in Germany, and came to America in 1862 and settled with her parents at St. Nazianz. After her marriage to John Steffen the couple lived on several farms near St. Nazianz for many years. Her husband, two daughters, and three sons preceded her in death. Survivors are seven sons: Nick of St. Nazianz, John, William, Richard and Carl of School Hill, Jochim of town of Meeme, and Frank of Charlestown; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mrs. Steffen was a member of the Christian Mothers of School Hill who will attend the funeral in a body. The body may be seen at the home of her sons, Richard and Carl, Route 1, Kiel, until the time of the services. Sheboygan Press, July 29, 1938 P. 4 ********** (This is a son of John Steffen in photo) Nick Steffen, 77, of Rt. 1, Kiel, retired Town of Liberty farmer, died Friday evening at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, where he had been a patient three days. Funeral services will be at 8:45 a.m. Monday at Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. The Rev. Denis Cooney will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Steffen was born Jan. 13, 1881, in Town of Eaton, Manitowoc County, son of the late John and Caroline Fehrenbach Steffen. July 1, 1914, he married Pauline Ebenhoe of St. Nazianz. She died Oct. 10, 1936. Mr. Steffen was a member of Catholic Knights of Wisconsin, of which he was presiden a number of years, and of the Holy Name Society. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. George Bartel of Rt. 1, Valders, Mrs. Hilbert Schill and Mrs. Robert Jaehnig of Cleveland, and Mrs. Clarence Markowski of Manitowoc; two sons, Leo of Rt. 1, Kiel and Arthur of St. Nazianz; six brothers, Frank of Rt. 1, New Holstein, William, Karl and Richard of Rt. 1, Kiel, Jochim of Rt. 1, Newton, and John of St. Nazianz; 19 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
