Catherine Von Bergen

From Calumet county marriage records:
John Von Bergen and Anna Catherina Massmann (v.1 p.75)
July 26, 1863 in civil ceremony in Town of New Holstein
John Von Bergen
Son of Henrich Von Bergen and Elsbe
Farmer at Empire, Fond du Lac County
Anna Catherina Massmann
Daughter of Claus Massmann and Catharina
Marriage signed by John Wickmann and J. Sell
(Note: The first wife died in 1886 and is buried next to John Von Bergen
at the New Holstein Cemetery. The photo we have of "Catherine Von Bergen"
is an older photo dating back before the other Schubert photos. I believe
this was a reprint that John Von Bergen had made after his first wife died.
Thus this photo is of Ann Catherina Massmann Von Bergen (who is the person
buried at New Holstein). I was not able to find a death record for this first
wife in Calumet County. - Bob D.)

Son of John Van Bergen and Katherine Messmann (both born Germany)
Farmer -born in Wisconsin
Died from "pernicious anemia"

(Note: This is the same family, with John the father and Katherine
Messmann as the mother. I have just returned from looking at the
records. In the records, the name changes often from Von to Van.
Van seems the more common spelling. The court house records are
consistent in spelling it as Van. Gustave is a son from the first
marriage of John Van Bergen. - Bob D.)

While doing Calumet County records, I found the following marriage
record. It is for the brother of Catherine Massmann Van Bergen, the
first wife of John Van Bergen:

The following sent in by a researcher/Bob Domagalski has the
email address.:
Under the name Von Bergen, Catherine: Catherine's husband John Von
Bergen married my great, great aunt Catharine Magdalena Libke (1839-1906).
John Von Bergen was her 3rd husband. Magdalena was the youngest daughter
of Claus Libke and Hepke Hennings. She was firs married to Nicholas
William Schwert (1829-1881) and in about the year 1859 in Calumet County.
Nicholas Schwert died in 1881 and is buried in the New Holstein City
Cemetery. It appears that Magdalena's second marriage was to a man named
Petersen. I do not have any information on that marriage at the moment.
In 1890, Magdalena married for a 3rd time to John Von Bergen as indicated
in the marriage certificate information given on the website. Magdalena
may be buried with her first husband Nicholas W. Schwert in the New
Holstein City Cemetery. Nicholas and Magdalena had no children and it
may be that when she was buried, there was no one to see to her gravestone.
I am wondering if there are burial records for the New Holstein City
Cemetery that would verify her place of burial beside her 1st husband
Nicholas W. Schwert following her death on the 28th September 1906.
