DAVID SCHEIDT Funeral services for David Scheidt, two year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Scheidt, Route 1, Cleveland, who died Tuesday of injuries received in a traffic accident, will be at the Trinity Lutheran Church, town of Liberty at 2 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in the church cemetery. David was born in the town of Centerville Dec 29, 1948. He is survived by his parents, and two brothers, (private). The body may be viewed at the Berge Funeral Home, Valders, until 11 a.m. Saturday when thecasket will be moved to the church. MARCELLA SCHEIDT Marcella M. Scheidt, age 73, of 421 Christel Drive, Apt. 13, Valders, died Friday, December 26, 1997, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn. Funeral Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 29, 1997, at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, Liberty. Rev. Robert Schultz officiated at the service and burial took place in the church cemetery. Marcella was born May 30, 1924, in the town of Liberty, Manitowoc County, daughter of the late Arthur and Linda Lemke Lutzke. She was a graduate of Valders High School. On September 16, 1945, she married Norman Scheidt at First German Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Marcella began her employment at the Nestles Milk Plant until 1945. In 1969, she was employed at the Leverenz Shoe Company of Valders until 1980. Marcella was a lifetime member of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, a Valders Senior Citizen and a member of the Ladies' Card Club. Survivors include her husband, Norma Scheidt, Valders; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Kathy Scheidt, Austin, Minn., Dewane and Mary Scheidt, Fond du Lac; one daughter and son-in-law, Jolene and Jim Laurence, West St. Paul, Minn.; one brother and sisters-in-law, LeRoy and Norma Lutzke, Two Rivers; ten grandchildren, Chad Livasy and his wife, Sheila, Darren, Bryan, Rachel, and Anna Scheidt, Dathan, Melissa, and Derek Scheidt, and Micaela Laurence; nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends also survive. NORMAN SCHEIDT Norman W. Scheidt, age 85, of Austin, Minn., formerly of Valders, died peacefully on Sunday, April 27, 2008, at St. Marks Nursing Home in Austin, Minn. Norman was born on Sept. 23, 1922, in the town of Centerville, son of the late Peter and Elvira (Ramminger) Scheidt. On Sept. 16, 1945, he married Marcella Lutzke at First German Lutheran Church in Manitowoc. She preceded him in death on Dec. 26, 1997. They enjoyed 52 years of marriage. Norman was a lifetime farmer and truck driver. He was a faithful member of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, town of Liberty; St. Peter Church, Fond du Lac and Beautiful Savior Church, Austin, Minn. (Survivors omitted for privacy.) He was preceded in death by a son: David Scheidt; a granddaughter: Alison Scheidt; a grandson: Bryan Scheidt; and his brother; Herbert Scheidt. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, town of Liberty. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Gregory Pope, with burial to follow at the church cemetery. EMMA M. SCHMIDT Mrs. Fred Schmidt, 86, a former Chilton resident, of 545 S. 30th St., Manitowoc, died Monday morning at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. C.R. Rosenow will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Schmidt, nee Emma Leider, was born May 10, 1886, at Manitowoc Rapids, daughter of the late Gottfried and Augusta Gohike Leider. She was married to Fred Schmidt May 27, 1905, in the Town of Liberty. They resided in Sheboygan Falls, the Town of Liberty and Chilton before moving to Manitowoc in 1966. Her husband preceded her in death in 1966. Survivors include two daughters, Miss Viola and Mrs. Mepa Koepsel, of Manitowoc; a brother, Paul, of Valders; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Two daughters, five sisters and six brothers preceded her in death. FREDRICH L. SCHMIDT Fred L. Schmidt, 88, of Rt. 4, Chilton, died Sunday at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Martin Lutheran Church, Chilton. The Rev. Ernst Schmidtke of Sheboygan will officiate and burial will be in Trinity Cemetery, Town of Liberty. Mr. Schmidt was born Aug. 23, 1877, in Bonduel, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schmidt. He married Emma Leider May 27, 1905, in the Town of Liberty, and for the last 38 years the couple lived at its present address. He worked for the Milwaukee Road before his retirement. Survivors are the wife, two daughters, Miss Viola, at home and Mrs. Meta Koepsel, of Manitowoc a sister, Mrs. Anna Emke, of Bonduel, four grand- children and five great grandchildren. VIOLA SCHMIDT Miss Viola D. Schmidt, 84, of 4200 Calumet Avenue, Manitowoc, died Thursday, March 7, 1991, at Manitowoc Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. this Sunday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, town of Liberty. Rev. Robert E. Schultz will officiate. Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, town of Liberty. Born July 24, 1906, in Sheboygan Falls, Wis., daughter of the late Fred and Emma Leider Schmidt. She was educated at Trinity Lutheran School in the town of Liberty and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Viola enjoyed cooking, baking and crochet. Survivors include two nieces, Miss Jeanette Koepsel of Manitowoc, Mrs. Bernice (Alvin) Lambries of Manitowoc; an aunt, Mrs. Alma Leider of Manitowoc; two great nieces; a great nephew; six great great nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends survive. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Edna Schmidt, Ruth Morris, Meta Koepsel and a brother-in-law, Walter Koepsel. AGNES SCHNELL Mrs. Edwin (Agnes) Schnell, 83, of Rt. 1, Manitowoc, died Friday morning at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Mrs. Schnell, nee Agnes Hecker, was born Jan. 2, 1893, in the Town of Newton, daughter of the late Ernst and Louis Born Hecker. She attended Newton schools and was a housewife. She was married to Edwin Schnell Nov. 11, 1916, at Newton. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid Society. ALICE SCHNELL Alice L. Schnell, age 90, of 3924 Madson Rd., Manitowoc, died Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Manitowoc Health & Rehabilitation Center. Alice was born September 17, 1921 in the town of Newton, daughter of the late Max and Hattie (Wegner) Bruckschen. She was educated at White Trail School in the Town of Newton, graduated from Lincoln High School in 1938, and then attended Manitowoc Business College. She married Harold F. Schnell on September 1, 1945 in the Town of Newton. Alice was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, former member of Trinity Ladies Aid, the Extension Homemakers, and a 4-H leader. Survivors include her husband, Harold Schnell, rural Manitowoc; three children, Fred (Darlene) Schnell, rural Manitowoc; Marilyn (Mike) Kaufmann, rural Manitowoc; and Sharon (Bill) Johnson, rural Berlin; six grandchildren, Corleen (Gerard) Heidgerken, Milwaukee, Rebecca (Dan) Kyle, Milwaukee, Nic (Megan) Kaufmann) Green Bay, Matthew Kaufmann, rural Manitowoc, Shawn Williamson (Significant other Tiffany Woyak), Appleton, and Aaron Williamson, Illinois; four great-grandchildren, Ryan Heidgerken, Trllium Alice Kyle, Elijah Kaufmann, and Emmit Kaufmann; two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Doris Bruckschen, and Willie (Jeanette) Hochkammer. ALWINA SCHNELL Mrs. Louis J. Schnell, 84, of Liberty, died Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Arthur Thiel, in the village of Manitowoc Rapids. She made her home with her daughter the past two years. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Liberty. The Rev. Samuel Kugler will officiate and burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Mrs. Schnell was born Alvina Kahn in Germany in 1869 and at the age of 18 came to this country. She was married in Milwaukee in 1892 to Louis Schnell and a year later moved to the homestead farm in Liberty, where she resided for 60 years. Mr. Schnell died in 1942. Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Arthur Thiel of Manitowoc Rapids, Mrs. Leonard Furhman of Newton and Mrs. Orley Halverson of Milwaukee; son, Walter, on the Liberty home farm; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. AUGUSTA SCHNELL MRS. AUGUSTA SCHNELL DIED YESRERDAY Mrs. Augusta Schnell, wife of Louis A, Schnell, South Fourteenth street, who moved into the city from a farm in Liberty, died at 2 o'clock p.m. yesterday after, an illness of about two months from heart trouble. Mrs. Sehnell was born in town Liberty in 1859 and celebrated her 50th birthday last Dec. 31. Her maiden name was Catherine Schnell and she was married to Louis Schnell in 1884. There are no children surviving, the couple, being childless. There are five brothers and four sisters survivlng, however. Arrangements for the funeral have not yet been completed. CARL F. SCHNELL Carl F. Schnell, 85, of Rt.1, Manitowoc, died Saturday morning at the family residence. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Town of Liberty. He attended schools in the Town of Eaton. He married Ella Ott, Nov. 20, 1915, in the Town of Liberty. He farmed his earlier years and retired from Lakeside Packing in 1980. EDWIN SCHNELL Edwin F. Schnell, 96, of Route 1, Manitowoc, died Friday evening, April 12, at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Mr. Schnell was born March 22, 1889, in the Town of Liberty, son of the late John and Marie Wehausen Schnell. He attended Liberty Schools and was a lifelong farmer in the Town of Liberty. He married Agnes Hecker, Nov. 11, 1916, in the Town of Newton. ELLA F. SCHNELL Mrs. Carl Schnell, 84, a former Rt. 1, Manitowoc resident died late Wednesday evening in Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Trinity Lutheran Church, Town of Liberty. The Rev. C. R. Rosenow will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Schnell, nee Ella Ott, was born Oct. 3, 1892, in the Town of Liberty, daughter of the late August and Bertha Holdorf Ott. She attended a district school in the area and was married to Carl Schnell Nov. 20, 1915 at Trinity Lutheran Church. They lived in Kiel for three years and later operated a farm on Rt. 1, Manitowoc. They observed their golden wedding anniversary in November of 1965. After Mr. Schnell’s death in August of 1975, Mrs. Schnell made her home with a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Lorfeld of Rt. 1, Newton. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Survivors include a son, Harvey of Rt. 1, Kiel (School Hill); a daughter, Mrs. Edward (Mildred) Lorfeld, of Rt. 1, Newton; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. FRED H. SCHNELL Fred H. Schnell, 69, of 1321 S. 16th St Manitowoc, died unexpectedly Thursday Morning af a heart attack at his home. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Town of Liberty. The Rev. Samuel Kugler will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. He was born April 8, 1886, in Liberty, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Schnell, and Aug. 1, 1940, married Miss Genevieve Jones. They moved to Manitowoc in 1943. He was active in farming, assisting hie brother, John A., on Rt. 1, Manitowoc. Surviving are his wife: mother, Mrs. Mary Schnell of Manitowoc; two brothers, John A. and Edwin of Rt. 1, Manitowoc; two sisters, Mrs. John Fischer of Rt. 1, Manitowoc, and Mrs. Edmond Lippert of ???, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews. JEAN SCHNELL Mrs. John Schnell, 45 of 1325 S. 16th St., Manitowoc, died Monday evening at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, where she had been confined 52 days. Funeral services will be at 2 pm Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Town of Liberty, with the Rev. S.G. Kugler officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The former Genevieve J. Jones was born Jan. 9, 1915 in Langlade County, Wis., daughter of Jessie and Myrtle Jenkins Jones. She was married to Fred H. Schnell at Iron Mountain, Mich., Aug. 1, 1940 and the couple moved to Rt. 1, Manitowoc. They resided on the farm three years and then moved to Manitowoc where he died Feb. 16, 1956. She was married to John Schnell March 9, 1957 and the couple moved back to Rt. 1, Manitowoc, returning to Manitowoc in1958. Surviving are the husband, the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Jones of Iron Mountain; five brothers, Orie of Marinette, Wilbert of Germantown, Edward and Charles of Milwaukee and Edwin of Kingsford, Mich.; four sisters, Mrs. Bert Pozza of Iron Mountain, Mrs. Richard Johnson of Milwaukee, Mrs. John Bjochmann of Kingsford and Mrs. Charles Sullivan of Port Huron, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews. JOHANN F. SCHNELL KILLING OF PIG RESULTS IN DEATH OF MANITOWOC MAN John Schnell, a well known Manltowoc county farmer died at his home following a stroke of apoplexy which he suffered as a result of overexertion. Responsibility for Mr. Schnell's death can be laid to a pig. While engaged in butchering on the farm, one of the pigs selected for killing became refractory and Mr. Schnell while attempting to hold the animal and complete the work of dispatching it, suffered a rupture of a blood vessel in the brain from which death later resulted. Mr Schnell was 60 years of age and had enjoyed robust health all his life and his sudden death is a great shock to all who knew him. He was widely known in the section where he made his home. Besides a widow, Mr. Schnell Is survived by five chlldren, two daughters and three sons. Several brothers and sister also survive. The Sheboygan Press, Tuesday, February, 21, 1919


LOUIS A. SCHNELL (d. 1934) Louis A. Schnell, Town of Liberty Farmer, Dies Louis A. Schnell, 76, retired Town of Liberty farmer, died at 5:40 p.m Wednesday at the home of his niece. Mrs. David Stewart, 913 South 14th street, following a stroke. The body was removed to the Stewart residence late this afternoon from the Wattawa, Urbanek & Schlei funeral home. Services will be held at the residence at 2 o'clock Saturday and at the Liberty Lutheran church at 3 o'clock. The Rev. P. Hensel will officiate and burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Mr. Schnell was born July 8, 1857 in Liberty. He married Miss Augusta Schnell May 23, 1884. Twenty-six years ago they moved to Manitowoc and Mrs. Schnell died the following year. LOUIS J. SCHNELL (d. 1942) Funeral Servives For Louis Schnell Held Wednesday Valders, Wis. - Funeral services for Louis Schnell, aged 83, lifelong resident of the Liberty township, who passed away Saturday afternoon, April 25, after an illness of a few days, were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Berge Funeral home here, and at 2 o'clock at Trinity Lutheran church in Liberty township, the Rev. E. C. Schroeder officiating. He became ill while attending a funeral service for his grand-daughter, Mrs. Thomas Blacklock, at St. Wendel, Wednesday, April 22. Interment was in the church cemetery, six grandsons serving as pallbearers. Deceased was born May 29, 1858, in Liberty township, eldest of a family of five boys and five girls. He was 16 years of age when his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Adam Schnell, bought the farm on which the family have since lived. On March 9, 1892, he was married to Miss Ida Kahn of Milwaukee. For 50 years the Schnells have been a member of the Liberty Trinity Lutheran church and Mrs. Schnell has been a member of the Ladies' Aid. In March, this year, the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Survivors are the widow; one son, Walter, of Liberty township; three daughters, Mrs. Leonard Fehrman of Newton, Mrs. Art Thiel, route 4, Manitowoc, and Mrs. Orley Halverson of Milwaukee; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Charles and Herbert of Newton, and August of Liberty, and one sister, Mrs. Fred Kieselhorst. Westphal of Manitowoc. The room was decorated in green and white crepe paper and silver tinsel. All had an enjoyable time, the guests being ? there until 4 o’clock in the morning. MARY SCHNELL Mrs. Mary Schnell, 92, of the Town of Liberty, Rt. 1, Manitowoc, died at her home Tuesday evening. Funeral services will be a 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Town of Liberty, with the Rev. Samuel Kugler officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Schnell was born Feb. 28, 1866, on the homestead farm in the Town of Liberty where she spent her entire life, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Johann Wehausen, April 17, 1885, she was married to John Schnell and he died in 1919. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid Society. Surviving are twin daughters, Mrs. Mary Fischer of Rt. 1, Manitowoc, and Mrs. Anna Lippert of Tucson, Ariz. two sons, Edwin and John of Rt. 1, Manitowoc, eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. WILLIAM A. SCHNELL BARN CAVE-IN VICTIM DIES OF INJURIES Skull Fracture and Internal Chest Injuries Prove Fatal To William Schnell William Schnell, 44, town of Liberty farmer, one of eight men injured Tuesday morning in the collapse of the framework of a barn under construction near Gjerpen, died at 10 o'clock Wednesday night at the Holy Family hospital. Schnell died of a skull fracture and serious internal chest injuries. He also had a compound fracture of one leg. He was crushed under several timbers 10 inches wide and 10 inches thick and never fully regained consciousness. Dr. Gerald Rau, county coroner, Sheriff Normnn Berkedal and Dist. Atty. John R. Cashman went to the scene of the accident this afternoon and the result of their investigation will determine whether an inquest will be held. The seven other persons hurt in the accident are all reported to be out of danger and most of them have returned to their homes. 50 WERE ON JOB Workmen who were alongside Schnell at the time of the accident said that he apparently was hit as he tried to avoid being struck by a ladder. Schnell was a member of a crew of about 50 volunteer work-men who were engaged in constructing a barn on farm property adjacent to the Grace Norwegian church and owned by the Norwegian Lutheran Synod of the American Evangelical church. Mr. Schnell was the son ot Mr. and Mrs. Louis J. Schnell who lived with him on the homestead farm in the Town of Liberty near the Liberty Lutheran church. He was born on that farm March 24, 1893. Besides his aged-parents, he is survlved by one brother, Walter of Newton, three sisters, Mrs. Arthur Thiel of Liberty, Mrs. Leonard Fehrmann of Newton and Mrs. Orley Halverson of this city, six nephews and four nieces. FUNERAL SATURDAY Funeral services will be held at the Trinity Lutheran church at Liberty Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock with the Rev. Ehrich Schroeter officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. The body will be removed to the residence Friday afternoon. JUDY R. SCHREIBER Judith R. Schreiber, age 65, of 14803 Old Irish Road, Reedsville, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2004 as Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc. Judith was born on March 7, 1939, daughter of Ada Bugler Koska and the late Daniel Koska. She was a graduate of Washington High School, with the class of 1957. She married Myron E. Schreiber on Dec. 2, 1961 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. Her lifelong career was a bookkeeper at various local companies including A.F. Smith and Sons, where she was employed for many years. Judy was currently employed at the Inn on Maritime Bay. MYRON E. SCHREIBER Myron E. Schreiber, age 71, of 14803 Old Irish Road, Reedsville, died Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc. Myron was born September 5, 1940, in the town of Newton, son of the late Hugo and Caroline (Koeser) Schreiber. He graduated from Washington High School in Two Rivers with the class of 1958. On December 2, 1961 he married Judith R. Koska at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Two Rivers. She preceded him in death on December 20, 2004. He was employed at Eastman’s from 1969 until 1980. Then he owned his own dairy distribution business. From there he did what he loved best, driving truck for many different companies including Pekarek Trucking, Dennis Moldenhauer Trucking, John Krause, and Bob Miller Trucking. In 1966 he was Wisconsin’s first living kidney donor recipient from his brother Vernon. He was a member of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, town of Liberty. ALBERT SCHROEDER Albert Schroeder, 83, died Sunday afternoon at the Manitowoc County hospital following a lingering illness. Mr. Schroeder was born in 1868 in the town of Manitowoc, and was a retired Valders farmer. He never married. IRMA SCHROEDER Mrs. E. C. Schroeder, 36, wife of the pastor of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran church in the Town of Liberty, died Friday at 6:45 p.m. at the parsonage. She had been ill for several years. Mrs. Schroeder, formerly Irma Kramer, was born in a German colony in Russia Nov. 1, 1902. The family came to the United States in I902 and established residence in Milwaukee. She was married in Milwaukee July 12, 1930. The couple moved to Liberty three and one-half years ago when the Rev. Mr. Schroeder was assigned to the Trinity church. The survivors are the widower, the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Kramer, Milwaukee, two brothers, Walter and John, and three sisters, Mrs. J. E. Devine, Mrs. Ed. Deyer and Miss Mathilda Kramer, all of Milwaukee. The body will lie at the Berge funeral home, Valders, this evening and until 9 o'clock Monday morning when it will be removed to the Trinity church. JANE L. SCHULTZ Mrs. Ralph (Jane L.) Schultz, age 80, of River Wood Estates, 950 S. Rapids Road, Manitowoc, formerly of English Lake Road, town of Liberty, entered eternal rest with her husband by her side on Monday afternoon, May 1, 2006, at River Wood Estates. Jane was born Dec. 23, 1925, in the town of Newton, Manitowoc County. She was the daughter of the late Herman and Erna Genz Clasen. She was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church in Newtonburg, and confirmed at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, town of Liberty. Jane attended Whittier School and Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Grade School. She continued her education at Valders High School and graduated with the class of 1943. After graduation Jane was employed at Mirro Aluminum in the payroll department until 1948. She then became employed part-time at Pine River Dairy until 1987. On June 12, 1948, she married Ralph A. Schultz at First German Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Jane and her husband Ralph dairy farmed from 1948 until 1987. Jane was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and was also active with the Ladies Aid, Bible Class, and church choir. She was also a member of the OWLS, Anchor Counseling Center, Manitowoc Lutheran High School Ladies Guild, Homemakers, and previously volunteered at Memorial Hospital and was a former 4-H leader. She is survived by her husband of 57 years: Ralph; four children: Kay (Allen) Raether, Watertown; Keith (Rebecca) Schultz, Manitowoc; Diane (David) Pritzl, Winneconne; Daniel (Laurie) Schultz, Appleton; nine grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; special relatives: Harold and Lee Kaltenbrun, Milwaukee; sister-in-law: Eleanor Clasen, Manitowoc; along with many other special relatives and friends. JOACHIM SCHULTZ Notes From Liberty: Joachim Schultz, an old settler of Liberty, aged 72 years, died Tuesday. A wife, three sons and a daughter survive him. He was a former assessor at Liberty, school district clerk for 31 years, secretary of Newton Fire Insurance Co., director of Eastern Insurance Co., a member of the church council and a lifetime member of the church. He was also a charter member of the Men's Club, Liberty. RALPH A. SCHULTZ Ralph A. Schultz, age 90, formerly of 10324 English Lake Road, Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Monday, March 29, 2010, at the Evergreen Retirement Facility, Oshkosh. Ralph had been residing in the Fox River Valley area since his wife's death in 2006, to be near two of his children. Ralph was born on Sept. 1, 1919, in the town of Liberty, Manitowoc County. He was the son of the late Lewis and Bertha Rusch Schultz. Ralph was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, town of Liberty. He attended Webster and Trinity Grade School and graduated from Valders High School with the class of 1938. He continued his education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and was employed with the Milk Testers Association. During World War II, he enlisted in the United States Army serving overseas in the South Pacific for four and a half years being stationed in New Guinea and the Philippines. As a veteran, he at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to the United States of America, for an amount of "up to and including his life". Ralph dairy farmed with his wife, Jane, until 1978, worked for the Lakefield Telephone Company, and then later as a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service from where he retired. On June 12, 1948, he married Jane Clasen at First German Ev. Lutheran Church in Manitowoc. After 57 years of marriage she preceded him in death on May 1, 2006. He was a member of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, where he was a past officer and member of the church council and school board. Ralph was also a member of the church's Men's Club, bible class, and church choir. He was also a member of the OWLS; past treasurer of the Liberty Township; past member of the Meistersingers, Barber Shoppers and Barber Shop Quartet; member of the American Legion Thompson Burkard Post No. 28 in Valders and a dairy 4-H leader. Ralph volunteered at Manitowoc Lutheran High School and also sang at various church functions. Although he had many health issues and the loss of his beloved wife Jane, Ralph never lost sight of his blessings. He was a kind, honest and loving man who will be missed dearly by his family and friends. In the way he lived his life, he has shown his love for his faith, his family and his country. Hard work, kindness, honesty, respect and joy of life were his nature. His family will try always to honor him by living their lives as he had shown them. (Survivors omitted for privacy.) CAROLINE M. SCHWALBE Caroline M. Schwalbe, age 88, a Manitowoc resident, died Friday August 3, 2012, at St. Mary’s at Felician Vilage in Manitowoc. Caroline was born on December11, 1923 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Arnold and Olga (Stephani) Gaestel. She grew up in Manitowoc and attended local schools. On September 16, 1944 Caroline was married to Earl Schwalbe at First German Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manitowoc. Earl preceded her in death on June 16, 2000. She was born in Germany, April 7, 1836, and came to this country and county with her husband in 1866, locating in the town of Liberty. Besides Mrs. Lemke, one son, Julius Selle, survives her, also eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. JULIUS SELLE JULIUS SELLE PASSES AWAY Heart Attack Proves Fatal To Retired Farmer Here Julius Selle, 70, retired farmer, died suddenly of a heart attack Monday afternoon at the home, 1905 Franklin street. Mr. Selle had been out for a walk during the afternoon. When he came home he sat down in a chair to rest and was stricken. His daughter, Mrs. Otto Leider, who was at the home, summoned a physician. Mr. Selle died in a few minutes. Funeral Thursday Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m., from the Wattawa, Urbanek and Schlei funeral home and at 2 o'clock from the Trinity Lutheran church, Liberty. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Mr. Selle was born in Germany, Jan. 1, 1860. While a child his family immigrated to America and located at Liberty. He took up farming, later assuming charge of the homestead farm which is now operated by a son, Emil. Forty-seven years ago Mr. Selle married Miss Anna Lulloff. Seven years ago Mr. and Mrs. Selle retired and moved to this city. Mrs. Selle died last July. WILHELM SELLE Charles Sell (sic), aged 87, a pioneer of the town of Libety died last night from a general breakdown. He had been sick several weeks. The funeral will be held Saturday at two o'clock. Mrs. Skoglund, who was Agnes Matthias before her marriage, was born at Sheboygan, August 17, 1890 and removed to Liberty, Manitowoc county with her parents as a babe. Sonnenberg, 52, Liberty-Farmer-Dies In Sheboygan Hospital William Frederlck Sonnenberg, 52, former Newton resident and who was located in Liberty passed away Monday at the St. Nicholas hospital, Sheboygan, after a two week illness. The deceased was born in Newton Oct. 23, 1875 and was married to Miss Anna Borgwardt June 14, 1899, they removing to Liberty to reside. Besides the widow, one daughter Lillian Sonnenberg, one sister, Mrs. Carl Waack of Manitowoc Rapids and two brothers, August at Sheboygan and Herman of Newton survive. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1 o'clock from the home in Liberty, and from there to the Liberty church, the Rev. Paul Hensel officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty cemetery. ANITA STOCKMEIER GIRL DIES AS SHE PREPARES FOR OPERATION Miss Anita Stockmeier died Tuesday afternoon at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. William Stockmeier at Valders while under the influence of ether in preparation for an operation for removal of her tonsils. The operation was undertaken at the home where a sister, Viola, had successfully undergone a similar operation during the morning. Death is said to have been due to heart failure. Miss Anita Stockmeier was born at Valders and this fall was to havo entered at high school at Howard's Grove. She was 16 years of age and one of the popular young ladies in the younger circles at the village. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock from the home with services at the Liberty Lutheran church, the Rev. Hensel officiating and burial will he at the Liberty cemetery. AUGUST TEESCH August Teesch, 73, Town of Cato farmer died at 2:30 o'clock this morning at the homestead, Manitowoc route 4, of a heart attack. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1:30 p.m. from the family home and at 2 o'clock at Trinity Lutheran church, the Rev. E. C. Schroeder officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be taken from the Pfeffer Funeral home to the family home on Saturday afternoon, and it will lie in state at the home until hour of the funeral. Mr. Teesch was born in DuPage county, Illinois, on June 15, 1869, and when he was six years old the family moved to this county. Mr. Teesch had lived here since. On May 31, 1900 he married Bertha Ott. She survives him, along with one daughter, Mrs. Daniel Kretsch of Manitowoc Rapids; three sons, Elmer of Cato, George of Manitowoc and Roland on the homestead; nine grandchildren; and five sisters, Mrs. Marie Drews and Mrs. Minnie Bartz of Two Rivers, Mrs. August Begalke and Mrs. Martha Luebke ot Manitowoc, and Miss Ida Teesch of Chicago. ERVIN TUSCHEL JR. (d. 2004) Ervin L. Tuschel, age 51, of 3728 Straight St., Manitowoc, died following a courageous battle with cancer, on Friday evening, Aug. 20, 2004, at his residence. Ervin was a graduate of Valders High School, with the class of 1970. Ervin was a specialist at Kelvinator Products for 21 years. Most recently Ervin drove truck for Madson Trucking, and then Charles Poch Trucking. He was a volunteer fire fighter for the village of Valders and St. Nazianz. She grew up in the township of Manitowoc Rapids, attending Hillside Grade School and St. Joseph Grade School, of Alverno. She was married to Ervin A. Tuschel on August 7, 1943, in Manitowoc county. He preceded her in death January 4, 1979. Marie and her husband enjoyed going fishing. She enjoyed playing solitare and working in her flower garden. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, a former member of the Ladies Aid of Trinity, and a member of the Northeast Wisconsin Great Lake Fishing Club. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ervin L. ELROY E. VETTER Farmer Killed When Board Pierces Chest Elroy E. Vetter Fatally Injured While Sowing Valders---A 39 year old farmer was killed almost instantly Wednesday afternoon when a board pieced his chest during a sawing operation. Elroy F. Vetter of Rt 1. Valders, and two other men were lifting a board during sawing operation at the sawmill on the Vetter farm when the board caught in the saw and was sent flying. The two by six board hit Vetter in the chest. Vetter was taken to Valders for treatment but Dr. Theodore Teitgen, Manitowoc County coroner believed that Vetter was killed almost instantly after the accident. The accident happened about 4:15 o'clock at the sawmill on the 100-acre Vetter farm where logs were sawed into boards for neighboring farmers. Vetter, father of five children, was working with Theodore Damm and Adam Durben at Rt. 4, Chilton, at the time of the accident. The three men were cutting boards for Durben. Doctor Teitgen said there would be no inquest. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in the Town of Liberty with the Rev. Samuel Kugler officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Vetter was born Nov. 8, 1918, in the Town of Liberty, son of the late Edwin and Marie Nass Vetter of Manitowoc. He attended the University of Wisconsin agricultural short course. He served for four years in the Air Force during World War 11, including service as an aerial gunner while stationed in England and attained the rank of sergeant. On June 15, 1947, he married Karolyn Bathke. In addition to farming in the Town of Liberty, he had operated a sawmill for the past year. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was also active as a bowler. Surviving are his wife, a daughter, (private), and four sons, (private), mother of Manitowoc, three brothers, Willard of Delhi, N.Y., Vernon of Valders and Edward with the Army in Germany; three sisters, Mrs. Edgar Pleuss of Valders, Mrs. Virgil Cogswell of Manitowoc and Louella Vetter of Manitowoc, and several nieces and nephews. FRED VETTER Fred Vetter, 77, life long resident of the county, died last night at his home in Valders where he had resided for 14 years. He had been in failing health for a month and this week was strcken with a heart attack. Funeral services will be held Friday, at 1:30 p.m. from the Grace Lutheran church, Valders. Burial will be in Liberty cemetery. Mr. Vetter was born in Liberty and when a young man operated a cheese factory in the town of Manitowoc Rapids. Later he took up farming and owned farms in Cato and Liberty. In 1925 he sold his farm and retired in Valders. He married Miss Sophia Bremmer in 1883. Survivors are the widow; four sons, Louis and Freed, Jr., both of Valders, Henry, Manitowoc Rapids, Hugo, Cato; and 14 grandchildren. LUCILLE F. VETTER Lucille F. Vetter, age 89, of 303 N. Jackson Street, Valders, died Monday, May 27, 2013, at her residence surrounded by her family. Lucille was born January 4, 1924, in Manitowoc County, daughter of the late William and Ella (Fischer) Moldenhauer. She graduated from Valders High School. On July 6, 1946 she married Vernon Vetter at Trinity Lutheran Church in the town of Liberty. He preceded her in death on February 6, 1984. She was employed by the Manitowoc Heath Care Center as a CNA for about 30 years retiring in 1989. Lucille was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was a former member of the choir and ladies aid. After retirement she volunteered at Trinity Lutheran School. SOPHIA VETTER Mrs. Fred Vetter, Sr., 76, died last night at the home of her son, Louis in Valders. She had been ill the paat year. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Berge funeral home, Valders, the Rev. Paul Hensel officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty cemetery. Mrs. Vetter, nee Sophie Bremer, was born in Hanover, Germany, in 1863 and when a child accompanied her parents to this county. They located in Manitowoc Rapids. In 1883 she was married to Fred Vetter and they located on a farm in Cato. Fifteen years ago they retired and moved to Valders. Mr. Vetter died 2 1/2 years ago. VERNON W. VETTER Vernon W. Vetter, 60, of Valders, died Monday morning, Feb. 6, at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Mr. Vetter was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Men’s Club. ELDA WALKER Mrs. Edwin Walker Is Dead, Funeral Thursday Mrs. Edwin Walker, 26, Arhens, Wisconsin, former Town of Liberty girl, died at the St. Joseph's hospital in Marshfield early this morning. Death was caused by a ruptured appendix. Services will be held Thursday from the home of her parents in Liberty at 1:30 p.m. Burial will take place in the Liberty cemetery, Rev. Rueter will officiate. Additional services will be held Tuesday at the Athens Lutheran church. The deceased was born Elda Schultz, in the Town of Liberty in 1907. In 1929 she married Edwin Walker. Bernice was born on March 11, 1925 in Manitowoc Rapids, daughter of the late August and Marie (Buck) Luebke. On June 2, 1951 Bernice was married to Robert A. Vetting at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on October 8, 2007. She farmed with her husband Robert on the family farm for many years. Bernice was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Liberty. She enjoyed baking and working in her garden, growing strawberries, raspberries and various other vegetables. He was born in Liberty in 1885 and in 1913 married Miss Linda Fischer. They located on a farm in Liberty. Seven months ago he disposed of the farm to his son, Paul, and moved to Newton. He was treasurer of the Baryenbruch Telephone company for 20 years and secretary of the Cemetery association of the Trinity Lutheran church of Liberty. Survivors are his wife; a son, Paul, and daughter-in-law Doris of Liberty; five brothers, John, Herbert and Henry of Milwaukee and Louis and Emil of Liberty; two sisters, Mrs. Arnold Habermann of Brillion and Mrs. Carl Roedig of route 5, Manitowoc. Wehausen, Employed at Spoentgen Store, Is Dead Edmund, the 28-year-old son of Henry Wehausen, in the town of Liberty, died yesterday in consequence of heart troubles. The young man had many friends in this city who mourn his early demise. He came here two years ago to attend the business college, meanwhile learning the cobbler trade at the Spoentgen Shoe store. After completing his course at the business college he continued working at Spoentgen’s until a few weeks ago when he was compelled to return to his home owing to his affliction, which caused so untimely an end of his career. FREDERICK A. WEHAUSEN (d. 2014) Frederick A. Wehausen, age 77, a rural Manitowoc resident, died Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at his residence. Fred was born on September 20, 1936 in Manitowoc, son of the late Louis and Hildegard (Schreiber) Wehausen. He was confirmed and graduated from Trinity Evangelical Lutheran School in 1951 and graduated from Valders High School in 1955. On October 22, 1960 he married the former Janice Meyer at St. James UCC in Spring Valley. Fred was a dairy farmer and retired in 2001. He was also a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was actively involved. Fred enjoyed spending time with family and watching his grandchildren as they developed interests in music, sports activities and enjoyed traveling. HENRY L. WEHAUSEN Henry Wehausen Sr., 75, lifelong resident of Liberty, died early today at the farm home. He had been ill a month. The couple farmed in the Town of Liberty until 1962 when they retired and moved to their present home in the Town of Valders. JOHANNA WEHAUSEN TOWN LIBERTY PIONEER DIES AT AGE OF 64 Mrs. Henry Wehausen, aged 64 years, a native of this county who suffered a stroke a year ago, passed away yesterday afternoon at the family home in the town of Liberty. Her maiden name was Johanna Carstens and she was born in the town of Newton. Funeral services will be held on Sunday afternoon at two o'clock from the family home with interment in the Liberty cemetery. Besides the husband, two daughters, Mrs. A. PAUL H. WEHAUSEN Paul Wehausen, age 85, of 7916 Madson Road, Valders, entered eternal rest early Wednesday morning, Nov. 1, 2006, at River's Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, 960 S. Rapids Road, Manitowoc. Paul was born Oct. 20, 1921, the son of the late Adolph and Linda Fischer Wehausen. On Nov. 1, 1947, he married Doris Kolb at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Together they farmed the home farm until Paul retired. Paul enjoyed spending time in his woods on the home farm during his retirement years. He was a life long member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in the town of Liberty, where he had served on the church council and was a member of the church's cemetery committee. Paul also was on the school board of Liberty Bell School District. ARNOLD WHITE Car in Wooded Area Hidden From View Campbellsport High School Teacher Dies in T-Intersection Car Mishap CAMPBELLSPORT—The body of a Campbellsport High School teacher was found Tuesday morning in a wooded area about eight miles south of Manitowoc. According to Manitowoc County traffic authorities, Arnold O. White was apparently killed early Monday when his car went off the end of a T-intersection and came to rest about 175 feet from the road against an embankment. A county highway employe noticed a broken road sign and followed the tire tracks that led to the White auto. It was completely obstructed from view in a wooded valley. White was found at 10:31 a.m. and time of death was set about 2:30 a.m. Monday. According to Principal Leo Long at Campbellsport High School, White taught seventh and eighth grades for the past two years. He was a 1961 graduate of Manitowoc County Teachers College and resided with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo White, Cato, R. 2, in Manitowoc County. DONALD S. WROLSON Donald S. Wrolson, age 79, of rural Valders, passed away Monday afternoon June 5, 1995, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc. Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 1995, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, in the town of Liberty. Rev. Robert Schultz will officiate with burial to follow in the church cemetery. He was born September 17, 1915, in the town of Manitowoc Rapids, son of the late Oscar and Alvina Osulson Wrolson. He graduated from Branch Elementary School in 1929, and was a 1913 graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School. He was employed in Milwaukee from 1936 to 1946 when he returned to Manitowoc County and started a mink ranch in rural Valders, which he operated until his retirement in 1980. He married Nathalie Schultz May 20, 1939, at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church. Reb. Schroeder performed the ceremony. He was a past member of Trinity Church Council. He played baseball in the Manitowoc County League with the Vikings for many years. He helped organize the Manitowoc County Dartball League and was a charter member of the Melody Dancers. Survivors include his wife, Nathalie; one son and daughter-in-law, Bradley and Judy; rural Valders; two daughters and one son-in-law, Cheryl Schuler, Green Bay, Valerie and Don Bunney, Mequon; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild. NATHALIE E. WROLSON Nathalie was born January 25, 1912, in the Town of Liberty, to the late Lewis and Bertha Schultz. She was brought into the family of God through the Rite of Holy Baptism on February 11, 1912 by the Rev. F. Weerts. She attended Webster Elementary School, Trinity Lutheran School and Lutheran High School in Milwaukee. After extensive study, she publicly declared her faith in her Lord in 1926. Her pastor at that time was the Rev. Paul Henzel. After high school she attended Manitowoc County Teacher's College. She had various jobs during her lifetime. On May 20, 1939 she married Don Wrolson of Milwaukee at Trinity Lutheran Church. The pastor was the Rev. Eric C. Schroeder. She was a longtime member of Trinity's Ladies Aid, a charter member of Cedar Grove Homemakers, Manitowoc County Ladies Dartball League, Melody Dancing Club and Senior Citizens Bowling Club of Manitowoc. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law: Bradley and Judy Wrolson of Valders; two daughters and one son-in-law: Cheryl Schuler of Green Bay, and Valerie and Don Bunney of Mequon; one brother and two sisters-in-law: Ralph and Jane Schultz, and Margaret Schultz, both of rural Manitowoc; one brother-in-law: Ed Walker of Watertown; a very special person: Harold Kaltenbrun, who was raised by her parents; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and other relatives. Wrolson, age 86, of Valders, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at River’s Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc. Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, town of Liberty. Rev. Robert Schultz will officiate, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. She was born January 25, 1912, in the town of Liberty, Manitowoc County, daughter of the late Lewis and Bertha Rusch Schultz. She attended Webster Elementary School, Trinity Lutheran School, and was a 1930 graduate of Lutheran High School, Milwaukee. She then attended Manitowoc County Teacher’s College. She was formerly employed by Branch River Country Club, and Pine River Pre-pack. She married Donald S. Wrolson on May 20, 1939, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, town of Liberty. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church ladies Aide, a charter member of the Cedar Grove Homemakers. She was active in the Manitowoc County ladies’ Dart Ball League for 20 years, a charter member of the Melody Dancing Club, and a member f the Senior Citizens Bowling Club at Meadow Lanes West, Manitowoc. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Bradley and Judy Wrolson, rural Valders; two daughters and one son-in-law, Cheryl Schuler, Green Bay, and Valerie and Donald Bunney, Mequon, Wis.; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Ralph and Jane Schultz, rural Manitowoc, and Margaret Schultz, rural Manitowoc; one brother-in-law, Ed Walker, Watertown, Wis.; a very special person, Harold Kaltenbrun, who was raised by her parents; four grandchildren, Terry Wrolson, Rhonda Diehm, Tracy Wrolson, and Craig Schuler; and three great-grandchildren, Spence, Mychaylla and Hunter. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, on June 5, 1995, one sister; one brother one grandchild; and one great-grandchild. Mr. Zastrow had been ailing for about a year but his condition died not become serious until a few weeks ago. ZASTROW PASSES AWAY Patient In Hospital 8 Weeks; Funeral Services Thursday Mrs. Frederlcka Zastrow, 79, died early today at the hospital, where she has been a patient for eight weeks. She has been making her home with a brother, Chris Schimmelpfennlg, 1201 Division street. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. from the Wattawa, Urbanek and Schlei funeral home and at 2:30 o'clock from the Liberty Lutheran church. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Born in Germany Mrs. Zastrow, whose maiden name was Frederlcka Schimmelpfennig, was born in Germany in 1856 and when a child accompanied her parents to this city. She married Ferdinand Zastrow here in 1877 and they located on a farm in Liberty. Mr. Zastrow died 20 years ago after which the widow lived with a daughter, Mrs. Ella Garlock at Waukesha. Three years ago she returned to this city to make her home with her brother. Survivors are a son, Albert, Fond du Lac; two daughters, Mrs. Garlock, Waukesha, and, Mrs. Anna Bratz, Reedsville; a brother, Chris Schimmelpfenning, city; a sister, Mrs. Emily Lorberblati, city; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. WILHELM ZASTROW The Angel of Death entered the home of Mrs. Zastrow near Valders and claimed her beloved son. He underwent an operation on Saturday and died the next Wednesday. He was 28 years of age. His early death is mourned by this mother, two brothers, Albert and August, and two sisters, Mrs. Frank Nass of Valders and Mrs. Louis Wicke of Manitowoc. JULIUS ZUNKER Pioneer Farmer Of Rapids Dies Sunday At Home Of His Son Julius Zunker, 82, a pioneer resident of the county, passed away on Sunday at the home of his son, Henry on the homestead farm in the town of Manitowoc Rapids where he has been making his home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 from the home and at two o'clock from the Liberty Lutheran church. The deceased was born in 1850 in Germany and came to this country with his parents when a boy of eighteen. He engaged in farming in the county. He was married to Augusta Neitzel, who preceded him in death. Two sons, Henry of Rapids and Julius of this city and thirteen grand children survive. Mrs. Zunker, whose maiden name was Bertha Meyer, was born at Meeme, the daughter of Christian and Bertha Meyer. She married Henry Zunker in 1906 and they located on the homestead farm. Trapani, Milwaukee, Mrs. Edward Koch, Two Rivers, Mrs. Roy Savasta, Detroit, Viola, city, Eldora, Lucille and Laverne, at home; two sons, Oscar, and Raymond, at home; a sister, Elda Milwaukee; four brothers Walter amd Fred, Sheboygan, John, Fond du Lac, August, Steinthal; and two grandchildren.
