ARTHUR LANGE Arthur H. Lange, age 87, of 13812 Point Creek Road, Newton, died Saturday morning, November 2, 1996, at Willowdale Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, New Holstein, where he had been a resident since January of 1996. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, November 4, 1996, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Cyril Dickrell with burial in the church cemetery. Arthur was born August 12, 1909, in Greenbush, Wis., son of the late Herman and Mary Gross Lange. He attended school in the Plymouth area. On May 2, 1936, he married Lucille Fischer in St. Nazianz. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year. The couple farmed in the town of Meeme until his retirement. After his retirement he did whitewashing of farm buildings in the area and also worked for the town of Meeme. He is a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill. Survivors include his wife, Lucille; one daughter, Sandra (Alois) Riesterer, Newton; five grandchildren, Pamela (Tom) Reindl, Brian (Shari) Riesterer, Trudel (Peter) Moehring, Lonna (Al) Lange, Jason Riesterer; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Alfred "Jerry" and Violet Lange, Milwaukee; one sister, Mabel Gumowski, Milwaukee; one brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Dorothy Deehr, Manitowoc. He was preceded in death by two sisters, one infant grandson, and an infant granddaughter. LUCILLE LANGE Lucille E. Lange, age 91, of 13812 Point Creek Road, Newton, died Monday evening, Oct. 21, 2002 at Willowdale Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, New Holstein, where she resided the past 2 ½ weeks. She is the former Lucille Fischer born Dec. 17, 1910 in the town of Meeme, daughter of the late Charles and Minnie Quast Fischer. Lucille attended school in the town of Meeme. On May 2, 1936, Lucille was united in marriage to Arthur Lange in St. Nazianz. He preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 1996. The couple farmed in the town of Meeme until their retirement. Lucille was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill. She enjoyed knitting and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include one daughter: Sandra (Alois) Riesterer, Newton; five grandchildren: Pamela (Tom) Reindl, Brian (Shari) Riesterer, Trudel (Peter) Moehring, Lonna (Al) Lange, Jason (Jerry) Riesterer; nine great-grandchildren: Jolene, Samantha, Isaak, Eli, Gina, Kevin, Sam, Laura and Nicole. She is further survived by one sister: Dorothy Deehr, Green Bay; one sister-in-law: Mabel Gumowski, Milwaukee; one brother- in-law: Alfred “Jerry” Lange, Milwaukee. She was preceded in death by one brother: Omar; two infant grandchildren and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill, with the Rev. Gregory Coulthard officiating. MARGARET LANGENHAHN Margaret C. Langenhahn, 91, a former School Hill resident, died Wednesday afternoon, June 9, at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, where she had been a patient for the past three days. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, and 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill. The Rev. Reginald Schrimpf will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Langenhahn, nee Margaret Schneider, was born Nov. 8, 1890, at Osman, daughter of the late Julius and Margaret Walterbach Schneider. She attended school at Osman. She was married to August Langenhahn Feb. 24, 1917, at Sheboygan. The couple resided at Osman until 1927 when they moved to School Hill. Mr. Langenhahn preceded her in death in 1972. For the past two years, Mrs. Langenhahn resided at Manitowoc with her daughter, Mrs. Clarence Bennin. She as a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Clarence (Mary) Bennin of Manitowoc; six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and a geat great grandchild. She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. MARY M. LOTTEN SCHOOL HILL - A quiet funeral took place at the School Hill cemetery, Friday morning, when Mrs. Oscar Lotten, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chr. Scharenbroch, was laid to rest. The body was sent here from California, where Mr. and Mrs. Lotten and family lived since last fall. Mrs. Lotten was a patient at the sanitarium in Whitelaw about a year. Her death was caused by after-effects of the flu which turned into consumption. She was 41 years old and leaves her husband and three children. The funeral was not a large one on account of the crippled phone service, making it impossible to inform friends of the obsequies. Tri-County Record - March 9, 1922


KIM MARIE LUTZ Kim Marie Lutz, 8 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Lutz of Rt. 2, Kiel, died Wednesday afternoon as the result of an accident. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill. The Rev. Reginald Schrimpf will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Kim was born March 25, 1969, at Manitowoc, daughter of Donald and Sandra Jorgenson Lutz. She was a Second Grade student at Kiel Elementary School and a member of the Brownie Troup. KURT LEE LUTZ Kurt L. Lutz, age 23, of 14410 Steinthal Road, Kiel, died Wednesday morning, February 22, 1995, at University Hospital, Madison. Kurt was born September 12, 1971, in Manitowoc, son of Donald and Sandra Jorgenson Lutz. He attended Kiel Middle School and was a 1991 graduate of Kiel High School. He was employed at Eclipse Manufacturing, Sheboygan, for the past 1 and 1-1/2 years. Kurt was involved in numerous musical plays while in high school. Survivors include his parents, Donald and Sandra Lutz; one brother, William James (Judy Mae) Lutz, Kiel; one nephew, Adam Lutz; aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by one sister, Kim Marie in 1977, paternal and maternal grandparents. ANNA MALLMANN School Hill woman Dies Mrs. Anna Mallmann, aged 81, who resided at School Hill, passed away at 5 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Nicholas hospital, where she had been a patient for the past seven weeks, due to injuries she received in a fall. CLARA MALLMANN Mrs. Frank Mallmann Passes Away At Hospital On Monday Mrs. Frank Mallmann, 32, who resided at 1828 Bell avenue, passed away of pneumonia at St. Nicholas hospital, Monday at 6 p.m., after an illness of about seven weeks. Mrs. Mallmann, nee Clara Miller, was born at School Hill Sept. 26, 1904, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Miller, and on June 24, 1924 was united in marriage to Frank Mallmann at School Hill. Mrs. Mallmann was a faithful member of St. Dominic’s church and of its St. Ann’s Altar and Mother society. She had a host of friends here and at School Hill who mourn her early death. Besides her husband, Mrs. Mallmann is survived by four children (names omitted for privacy); her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Miller of School Hill; three brothers, Joseph of Sheboygan, Arthur of Athens, Wis., and Frank of Kohler and three sisters, Mrs. William Scharenbrock of School Hill, Mrs. R. F. Murphy of California and Miss Rose Mallmann of Sheboygan. A son, Roman, died in infancy. JOHN J. MALLMANN Funeral services for John J. Malmann(sic), 25, of Rt. 1, Kiel, who was fatally injured in an automobile accident early Thursday morning in Sheboygan County, will be held at 9:30 am Saturday at the Kellenbenz Funeral Home, St. Nazianz and at 10 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill. The Rev. Alfred Schmitt will officiate and burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Born in Milwaukee on Aug. 24, 1930, Mr. Malmann had been employed in the pottery department of the Kohler Co. and was residing with his parents. He was discharged a little more than a year ago following three years of service, including 14 months in Korea. The deceased was a member of the Holy Name Society of Holy Trinity Church. JOSEPH MALLMANN Joseph Mallmann, 71, a School Hill farmer, died of a sudden heart attack in his home at 11:15 p.m. Saturday. Born Sept. 21, 1885, in the same Manitowoc County farm home in which he died, Mr. Mallmann was a son of the late Peter and Anna Mallmann. He attended school near his home and as a young man assisted his father in operating the homestead farm. He took over the farm in later years, continuing to operate it until death. On June 20, 1944 he married Teckla Schierl of Hayton. He was a member of the Holy Name society of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, School Hill. Surviving are his wife; six sisters, Mrs. John Fahres, Mrs. Leopold Altenbach, Mrs. John Hess, Mrs. Clara Wilbert and Mrs. Lena Tilger, all of Sheboygan, and Mrs. Hubert Kretsch, Manitowoc; and four brothers, Frank and John, Sheboygan, Jake, Chilton, and William, Monterey Park, Calif. He was preceded in death by a stepson, John J. Mallmann, 25, who was killed in an auto crash the past April on Highway 32 near Ada. The requiem mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church following brief 9 o’clock rites at the Kellenbenz Funeral Home, St. Nazianz. Sheboygan Press, November 26, 1956 P. 12 ********* SCHOOL HILL MAN INJURED BY A MAD BULL Joseph Mallman, a well known farmer at School Hill, this county, is in a precarious condition at his home as result of an attack by a mad bull yesterday. Mallman's head is cut open and his body is terribly bruised as result having been trampled by the animal. Reports today are that Mallman will probably survive. Mallman was leading the bull by a rope, while his father Peter Mallman held another rope and was walking behind the animal. The bull started to run and the father was forced to release his hold on the one rope and the son could not hold the infuriated animal with the other rope and was knocked down and trampled upon, the bull striking Mallman's head with his hoofs. When the injured man was rescued and removed to the house it was found that the gash cut in his head exposed the brain and that his bodily bruises were many and serious and that internal injuries may also have been inflicted. Physicians were summoned and every car is being given the injured man, whose condition is such that no one is permitted to see him. MARGARETH MALLMANN Mrs. Margaret Mallmann, aged 57, wife of A. P. Mallmann, 1015 Lincoln Avenue, died Thursday evening at 7 o'clock at St. Nicholas hospital, following an illness of about a year's duration. She was born in the town of Meeme and was married there to A. P. Mallmann in 1908. They came to Sheboygan in 1926 and ever since then they have been making their home in this city. She was a devoted and loving mother, who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was a member of the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin. Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Alexander B. Mallmann and a daughter, Martha M. Mallmann, both at home. There are also four brothers, Joseph and William Scharenbroch of School Hill, John of Silver Lake, and Peter of Collegeville, Minn., besides two sisters, Miss Anna Scharenbroch of Fort Brag, Calif., and Mrs. Nels Lotten of School Hill. PETER MALLMANN (d. 1934) Mallmann Funeral To Be Held On Wednesday Funeral services for Peter Mallmann, 87, who died Sunday at the home of his son Joseph at School Hill, will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the Trinity Catholic church in School Hill. Mallmann of School Hill. Mr. Mallmann was born in the town of Mosel, Sheboygan county, September 17, 1847, a son of Joseph and Mary Mertens Mallmann, who were some of the first settlers here. During the early years of his life he worked in the copper mines and lumber camps, and in 1874, the year he married Miss Katherine Schad, he located on a farm in School Hill. His wife died in 1880, and two years later he married Miss Anna Pitzner. Survivors are his wife and fifteen children, twelve by the second marriage, and three by the first. PETER MALLMANN (d. 1950) Peter Mallmann, 74, a resident of Sheboygan for the past 26 years, died early today at St. Nicholas hospital. Born at School Hill, Wis., on Oct. 3, 1875, the son of the late Peter and Mary Mallmann, his marriage to Margaret Scharenbrock was solemnized there on Oct. 27, 1908. For more than 13 years he was a rural mail carrier in Dodge, Neb., and the couple made their home in New Holstein before coming to Sheboygan in 1923. Mr. Mallmann was employed by the J.W. Jung company and prior to his retirement had been an employe of the H.C. Prange company for 18 years. His wife preceded him in death in 1930. A faithful member of Holy Name church, he was also affiliated with its Holy Name society and St. Leo court, Catholic Order of Foresters. Survivors are a son, Alex, Willard, Wis.; a daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Martha) Fritz, Sheboygan; three grandsons; a sister, Mrs. Catherine Parr, Sheboygan; four half- brothers, William, Milwaukee, Joseph, School Hill, Jacob, Chilton, and Frank, Sheboygan, and six half-sisters, Mrs. Hubert (Gertrude Kretsch), Manitowoc, and Mrs. Leopold (Elizabeth) Altenbach, Mrs. John P. ROSIE MALLMANN A victim of a heart attack Miss Rose Mallmann, 49, died suddenly at the farm home adjoining the village of School Hill in Schleswig Sunday morning. She was born on the homestead farm and spent her entire life there. Miss Mallmann was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic church and the Young Ladies sodality. TECKLA MALLMANN Teckla Mallmann, 88, of Calumet Homestead Health & Rehabilitation Center, New Holstein, formerly of Charlestown, died on Friday, July 31, 1998, at the nursing home. She was born Dec. 14, 1909, in Hayton, daughter of the late Wendelin & Anna (Woelfel) Schierl. Teckla married Joseph Mallmann on June 20, 9144, at St. Martin Catholic Church in Charlestown. He preceded her in death on Nov. 24, 1956. She farmed with her husband in School Hill until his death. She then moved to Sheboygan and worked for St. Nicholas Hospital for 25 years in the housekeeping department and for the past eight years was a resident of Homestead. She had been a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Sheboygan. She is survived by two sisters, Angela Wartgow of Janesville and Genevieve Horst of Chilton; a sister-in-law, Romilda Schierl; also many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a son, John, on April 18, 1956; five sisters, Olive Marcell, Tillie Schierl, Ermina Heetel, Loretta Feldhausen and Lydia Schneider; and one brother, Leander Schierl. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1998, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in School Hill with the Rev. Gary New officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery on Wednesday. LAVERNE H. MAURER LaVerne H. "Horsey" Maurer, age 90, of 18611 Co. Highway X, Kiel died peacefully Sunday evening, March 7, 2010 at his home. He was born October 25, 1919 in the Town of Schleswig, son of the late Herman & Meta Nett Maurer. LaVerne was a 1937 graduate of Kiel High School. On June 23, 1951 he married Lucille Vander Weyst at Bethlehem UCC. She preceded him in death on January 3, 1986. On July 26, 1997 he married Marjorie V. (Fritch) Tollman at Millhome. Marjorie preceded him in death on February 6, 2004. LaVerne farmed with his father in the Town of Schleswig and also worked at Lake To Lake in Kiel for over 20 years until his retirement. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill, the School Hill Men's Club, serving as Treasurer, Kiel Redmen, Knights of Columbus, Starcraft Campers and the Royal Neighbors. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, playing bingo, fishing & deer hunting. He also enjoyed going to South Town Restaurant in New Holstein to visit his friends, going to Branson MO with Glenn, Bridget and the Anji B's gang, listening to barber shoppers perform, taking rustic road trips and watching his birds. Grandpa LaVerne was a gentle man with a "dry" sense of humor who brought joy to everyone he encountered. He was a "guys" guy. He knew a lot about everything, not only from books, but from personal experiences and was always willing to teach anyone who would listen. He was a simple man who loved the "little" things in life. He welcomed everyone he met into his family. Survivors include one daughter: Kathleen Slabe, Sheboygan, two stepdaughters; Pat (Roger) Hagenow, Minocqua, Marilyn Burger, DePere, one stepson, Charles (Susan) Tollman, New Holstein, fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. He is further survived by other relatives, many friends and his two feline buddies, Buffy & Sammy. He was preceded in death by one daughter & son-in-law; Diane (Charles) Schmitt, one granddaughter, Heather Slabe, one great granddaughter, Crystal Betts, two step great grandchildren; Cody & Dylan Pierce and one step son-in-law, Darwin Burger. The funeral Mass for LaVerne will be celebrated on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 12:00 noon at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill with Rev. Michael Bigley officiating. LUCILLE G. MAURER Lucille Maurer, 63, Town of Schleswig, died Friday afternoon, January 3, at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan, where she had been a patient for the past two weeks. She married LaVerne Maurer on June 23, 1951 at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig. After their marriage the couple farmed in the Town of Schleswig. Mrs. Maurer was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill, Christian Mothers Society and a member of Star Gazers Camping Club of Wisconsin. ARTHUR MAYR Arthur J. Mayr, 88, of Route 1, Kiel, died Friday, April 1, at Villa Loretto Nursing Home, Mount Calvary. THERESA MAYR (d. 1975) Mrs. Arthur Mayr, 79, a Town of Meeme (Manitowoc County) resident, died Wednesday night at the Villa Loretta Nursing Home, Mount Calvary, where she resided the past five years. The former Theresa Kutz, she was born May 13, 1896, in Meeme, a daughter of Frank and Theresa Schnettler Kutz. She attended St. Fidelis Catholic School in Meeme. On Oct. 3, 1916 she married Arthur Mayr at St. Fidelis Catholic Church. The couple resided in Meeme and observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1966. Mrs. Mayr was organist at St. Fidelis Church for many years and was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill, its Christian Mothers Society and the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin. Surviving are her husband, three daughters, Miss Frieda Mayr of Milwaukee, Mrs. Walter (Cecelia) Muehlbauer of Concord, Calif., and Mrs. Jerome (Ann) Kraus of rural Elkhart Lake, three sons Frank of Milwaukee, the Rev. ANTON MILLER Anton Miller, 84, former School Hill resident, died in a Sheboygan hospital. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at Holy Trinity church, School Hill, with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Mr. Miller, brother of the late Peter Miller, Manitowoc grocery store operator, was born at Ada in 1861 and in 1887 married Christina Christman. They located on a farm near School Hill where they resided until 1913 when they moved to School Hill. Mrs. Miller died in 1941, since which time Mr. Miller has resided with a daughter, Miss Rose Miller, in Sheboygan. ROSE ELIZABETH MILLER Rose Elizabeth Miller, 99, of Milwaukee, formerly of Sheboygan, passed away on Monday, June 26, 2000 at Park Manor Health Care Facility in Milwaukee, where she had been a resident since 1987. Miss Miller was born Nov. 20, 1900, in School Hill, Manitowoc County, a daughter of the late Anton and Christina Christman Miller. She attended school at Holy Trinity School in School Hill. She had lived in the Sheboygan area for many years and had been a domestic housekeeper in both Sheboygan and Kohler. She later moved to Milwaukee in the 1950s. Rose was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Milwaukee. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters. Miller, 73, of 13132 Cedar Lake Road, Kiel, died peacefully Friday evening, April 23, 2004, surrounded by her loving family at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan. She was the former Rose Mary Riesterer born April 29, 1930, in St. Nazianz, daughter of the late Anton and Mary Fessler Riesterer. Rose Mary graduated from St. Gregory Grade School in St. Nazianz. On Nov. 6, 1948, she married Elroy Miller at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. Rose Mary was employed for a number of years at the Salvatorian Center, New Holstein. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill. Rose Mary enjoyed spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing, oil painting and bird watching. Survivors include her husband, Elroy; nine children, Wayne (Janet) Miller of Kiel, Eugene (Kelly) Miller of Burlington, Robert Miller of School Hill, Rose Ann McLaury of Avon, Conn., Michael (Wendy) Miller of Kiel, Dave (Ann) Miller of Kiel, Mary Bushman of School Hill, Deb (Kevin) Casper of Kiel, and Karen Halbach of New Holstein. ALVIN MORGAN Alvin L. Morgan, 60, of Cedar Lake, R. 2, Kiel, died unexpectedly Monday at the home o his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James Winkel, town of Russell. He was born June 3, 1918, in the town of New Holstein, a son of Henry and Monica Gau Morgan. He attended school in New Holstein. On June 3, 1941 he was married to Loretta Mueller in New Holstein. The couple located on the Morgan farm in the town of New Holstein which they operated for 15 years before moving to a farm east of Howards Grove, where they lived for 22 years. He also was employed at the Kohler Co. for 17 years. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill. LORETTA MORGAN Loretta was the daughter of Arnold and Ella (Meyer) Mueller. She attended St. Mary's parochial school in Marytown, WI On June 3, 1941, Loretta married Alvin L. Morgan in New Holstein at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. After their marriage, the couple farmed in New Holstein and later near Howards Grove. Her husband preceded her in death on November 6, 1978. During her life, she was employed at the Millersville Box Company in Howards Grove, and Stoeltings Inc. in Kiel. For twelve years, she served St. George Catholic Church in Elkhart Lake as the housekeeper for Fr. Jim Cera. The last 10 years until her death, Loretta worked at Strukel Photography in Sheboygan. She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Sheboygan. Loretta was also a former member of St. George Catholic Church in Elkhart Lake and their Christian Women's Society. Loretta was a member of several card clubs, enjoyed traveling on bus trips and visiting Arizona. Loretta will be remembered for her enjoyment of life and her love for her family and friends. EDWARD J. MUELLER Former Resident Dies At Sheboygan A native of the Town of Schleswig, Edward J. Mueller, 66, Sheboygan, was dead on arrival at St. Nicholas hospital, Sheboygan early Monday evening. He had been stricken with an apparent heart attack at home Funeral services are being held today, Thursday, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill, with the Rev. H. G. Messmer, pastor, celebrant. Burial will be in the Holy Trinity cemetery. Mr. Mueller had retired only last Friday from Verifine Dairy Products Company. He had been living with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Thiel, since the death of his wife in April, 1950. He was born March 15, 1901, a son of the late Peter and Mary Mutz Mueller. He attended the Holy Trinity Catholic school and married Mary Binversie May 16, 1922, in Holy Trinity Church. The couple farmed near School Hill until 1947 when they moved to Sheboygan, where Mr. Mueller took employment that year in the Verifine Plant. He had been doing maintenance work most recently. He was a member of St. Peter Claver Catholic Parish, Sheboygan, and Holy Trinity, along with the Holy Name Society. ELROY E. MUELLER Elroy E. Mueller, age 63, of N919 Hwy 57, Kiel, died Sunday evening, February 11, 2001, peacefully with his family at his side. Funeral Services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2001, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill, with the Rev. Gregory Coulthard and Deacon James Steffen officiating. Private Burial Services will take place on Thursday morning at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery. He was born August 14, 1937, in the town of Schleswig, son of the late Frank and Marcella Gries Mueller. He attended Holy Trinity Catholic Grade School and was a 1955 graduate of Kiel High School. On November 12, 1960, he married Mary Ausen at St. Wendel Catholic Church, Cleveland. Elroy farmed in the Town of Schleswig and also was employed as a supervisor at Tecumseh Products, New Holstein for over 40 years, retiring on May 1, 1999. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill, a member of the parish council, a communion server, a member of School Hill Men's Club, a church greeter and he also taught a CCD class. He also was a past member of the Manitowoc County Pork Producers and a past member of the Kiel City Band. He was an avid sports fan and loved scenic drives. Elroy was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be truly missed by his family and all who knew him. MARCELLA MUELLER Mrs. Frank Mueller, 42, town of Schleswig, passed away suddenly Thursday afternoon in a doctor’s office at Kiel. The deceased, nee Marcella Gries, was born in the town of Meeme, on Sept, 5, 1906, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gries. BEATRICE NEILS Beatrice N. Neils, 74, of 17925 County Road X, went to her eternal rest on Monday, March 6, 2000 at Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center, where she had been a patient for the past two weeks. Beatrice was born March 7, 1925 in the town of Schleswig, the daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Binversie) Mueller. Beatrice attended Holy Trinity School. Beatrice Mueller and Milan Neils were united in marriage on April 27, 1946. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 1996. The couple farmed in the town of Schleswig, retiring in 1982. Beatrice enjoyed gardening, playing cards and her nightly game of scrabble with her husband. She was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in School Hill, where she was also a member of the Christian Women. She is survived by her husband Milan, her three sons, Glenn (Delores), Randy (Sandy) and Mark (Sandy), all of Kiel. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Craig (fiancee, Tola) and Christopher, Stephanie and Ryan and Joseph (special friend, Nicole), Jon, Eric and Erin. She is also survived by one sister, Rita Thiel, Sheboygan; four sisters-in-laws, Ruth (Henry) Arpke, Elkhart Lake, Arleen Gahagan, Valerie (Mutzie) Neils, Gladys (Milton) Mueller, all of Kiel, Lois (Dale) Brault of El Dorado; and three brothers-in-law, William (Theresa) Neils, Elwood (Joyce) Neils, both of Elkhart Lake, and Jerome Neils of Kiel. MILAN NEILS Milan Neils, age 91, of Kiel, died peacefully Monday afternoon, June 11, 2012 at Homestead Care Center, New Holstein where he resided the past six weeks. He was born July 19, 1920 in Milwaukee, son of the late William and Hattie (Platz) Neils. In 1924 he moved to the Town of Rhine with his family where he attended the Dewey School. As a young man, Milan worked as a milk hauler for S & R Cheese and at Cal & Gus Garage in Elkhart Lake. On April 27, 1946 he married Beatrice Mueller and they made their home in School Hill where they farmed until their retirement in 1982. Beatrice preceded him in death on March 6, 2000. Milan moved to Kiel in 2006. Milan was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill where he served as trustee when the existing church was built in 1967. He was a board member on both the School Hill and Osman cheese factories and charter member of the Hermitage Club and School Hill Men's Club. Milan attended Kelly Kramer's night school for area farmers for many years which he thoroughly enjoyed. Milan enjoyed gardening, woodworking, canning, playing cards and making sausage and maple syrup for and with his family. He also enjoyed Wednesday morning break- fast with his church group. He is survived by three sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren all of whom he was extremely proud of, Glenn (Laurie) Neils, and their families, Craig (Tola), Christopher (Jennifer), Elizabeth and Emma, Randy (Sandy) Neils and their families, Stephanie (Steven) Hicks, Lila and Olivia, Ryan (Jill) Neils and Brady, Mark (Sandy) Neils and their families, Joe (Nicole) , Mason, Ava and Kaden, Jon (Katie), Eric (Becky) and Levi, with another great grandchild due in August and Erin (fiancee, Ryan Gaedke) and Jaelyn. He is further survived by a very close nephew & niece, Terry (Sandy) Thiel and special neighbor, Cody Rabe, brothers and sisters, Jerome Neils, Kiel, Gladys Mueller, Louis Corners, Elwood (Joyce) Neils, Elkhart Lake, William (Theresa) Neils, Elkhart Lake, Lois Brault, Rosendale, sister-in-law, Mutzie Neils, Kiel, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was born in Germany and located in Meeme when a boy of fourteen. In 1869 he was married to Margaret Binveral(sic) who passed away fourteen years ago. He was a member of the Catholic Knights. DONALD F. OLIG Donald F. Olig, 26, Manitowoc County World War II veteran, died of Hodgkin's disease Thursday morning at Veteran's Hospital, Wood, Wis. Funeral services with military rites by the St. Nazianz American Legion post will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, and at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church of School Hill. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Olig of Rt. 1, Kiel, was born Dec. 20, 1926, at Sheboygan Falls and moved when 2 with his parents to the present Manitowoc County farm. He married the former (private) of Sheboygan Oct. 25, 1952. He enlisted in the Merchant Marine in 1944 and served 18 months in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. BEATRICE POSSELT Beatrice "Bea" K. Posselt, 72, of 14000 Cedar Lake Road, Kiel died Tuesday morning, January 23, 2007 at Rocky Knoll Health Care Center, Plymouth. She was the former Bea Booton, born July 19, 1934 in Milwaukee, daughter of the late Bernard & Kathleen Booton Strong. Bea was a graduate of Pius High School in Milwaukee. On August 9, 1952 she married Arthur Posselt in Milwaukee. After moving to Kiel in 1966 Bea worked for Dr. William Schultz in New Holstein as a medical assistant until 1975. From 1981 until 1996 she worked for the Kiel School District and retired as head cook in 1996. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill and Cedar Lake Improvement Association. Bea and her husband Art enjoyed many social activities, such as pool league, darts and bowling. She will be remembered for her outstanding cooking and her poetry. Survivors include her husband Art of 54 years, five children: Debra (Dennis) Wagner, Minneapolis, John Posselt, Plymouth, MA, Cindy (Brad) Mey-Kosbab, New Richmond, Sandra (David) Seifert, Sheboygan Falls and Cheryl Posselt, Minneapolis. She is further survived by six grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Mary Jo Werner, Milwaukee. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathleen and three sisters. CATHERINE RAMMINGER Rites Held Saturday for Mrs. Catherine Ramminger Mrs. Catherine Ramminger, 75, was laid to rest in the Holy Trinity parish cemetery at School Hill, Saturday. Mrs. Ramminger died at St. Nicholas hospital Wednesday. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Alfred Schmit, SDS. The former Catherine Wagner, she was born in the town of Meeme, May 15, 1881, a daughter of the late Michael and Agnes Klein Wagner. She attended Holy Trinity Catholic school at School Hill and was married to Mr. Ramminger, a native of Schleswig, April 23, 1901. Following their marriage the couple operated the Wagner home farm in Meeme, southeast of Cedar Lake, until Mr. Ramminger's death in December, 1946. Since then Mrs. Ramminger had continued to live on the farm, operated by a son-in-law. She was a member of the Christian Mothers society of Holy Trinity parish. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Albert Reinecke, Cascade; Mrs. William Conrad, R. 1, Cleveland; Miss Leona Ramminger, at home; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Mary Umsonst, Kiel.


ELMER RAMMINGER Elmer Ramminger, 40, town of Meeme farmer, died Wednesday morning after a lengthy illness. WILLIAM RAMMINGER William Ramminger, 68, town of Meeme farmer, died at the farm home Saturday night, following a lingering illness. MATTHEW RIESTERER Matthew A. Riesterer, age 73, of 11904 Marken Rd., Kiel, (School Hill) died Sunday evening, November 12, 1995, at Calumet Medical Center, Chilton. He farmed in the St. Anna area prior to moving to School Hill. He was employed at Kohler Comapny in the maintenance department for 29 years, retiring in 1983. MARY ROCK Mrs. Peter Rock, 46, School Hill, Dies At Green Bay Hospital Mrs. Peter Rock, 46, a native of School Hill, this county passed away early this morning at the St. Vincent’s hospital at Green Bay after a several weeks illness. Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning, from the homestead at School Hill at 9:30 o’clock and at ten o’clock from the Trinity church with burial in the cemetery there. The maiden name of the deceased was Mary Bonde, and she was married to Mr. Rock sixteen years ago. They always resided on a farm at School Hill. Besides the husband the deceased is survived by four brothers, Peter Bonde of Newton, Philip of Rib Lake, Wis., Theodore of Meeme and Nicholas of Newton and three sisters, Miss Elizabeth of Eiser, Wis., Mrs. Andrew Bushman, Newton and Sister Francis Helen of Alverno. PETER ROCK Peter Rock, 75-year-old former Town Meeme resident, died on Monday morning at his home at 602 Commercial avenue, Manitowoc. He was born in Town Meeme, Manitowoc county in 1873, the son of Matthias and Magdalena Rock. He remained on the homestead until about 13 years ago when he moved to Manitowoc. While in Manitowoc, he was employed at the shipyards. Mr. Rock was married to Miss Mary Bonde at School Hill in 1913. She preceded him in death in 1929. His parents, three sisters and three brothers also preceded him in death. The survivors include one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Dieringer, and one brother, John Rock, of Sheboygan. Funeral services will be held at 9:15 a.m. Thursday at the Urbanek and Schlei Funeral home in Manitowoc and at 10 o’clock at the Holy Trinity church at School Hill where the Rev. FRANK SADKOWSKI Frank A. Sadkowski, 82, of School Hill, died Thursday morning, March 6, at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, where he had been a patient the past two weeks. They farmed near School Hill until 1947, when they moved to School Hill where he was engaged as a building contractor. Mrs. Sadkowski preceded him in death in 1967. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church at School Hill. MARTHA SADKOWSKI Mrs. Frank A. Sadkowski, 65, of School Hill, died Sunday at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient for five days. Born Nov. 27, 1901, in Manitowoc, the former Martha Sobieck was a daughter of the late Xavier and Veronica Sobieck. She attended St. Boniface Catholic School. On Sept. 7, 1920, she was married to Frank Sadkowski at Manitowoc. Following their marriage the couple located on a farm near School Hill. In 1947 they moved to School Hill where Mr. Sadkowski was engaged in the building contractor business. CATHERINE SALM Mrs. Salm Is Found Dead SCHOOL HILL — Mrs. Catherine Salm, lifelong Manitowoc County resident, was found dead in bed by neighbors at the home in the village Thursday morning. When she did not appear at morning Mass at Holy Trinity Church, as was her custom, the neighbors visited the home and found she had died in her sleep. Her death occurred the day before her 68th birthday. Funeral services will be held at 10 am. Monday at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. The Rev. ALICE SCHAD Alice M. "Teddy Bear" Schad, age 71, of 12210 Mill Place Road, Kiel, (School Hill), died Sunday morning, Nov. 14, 2004, at Calumet Homestead Rehabilitation Center, New Holstein. She was the former Alice Ramminger, born Oct. 22, 1933 in Chilton, daughter of the late Anton and Nerina Gruber Ramminger. On Oct. 22, 1952 Alice married Raymond Schad at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein where the couple lived until 1956 when they moved to Steinthal. In 1967 they moved to School Hill. Alice worked at Tecumseh Products in New Holstein until 1967 when the couple purchased the School Hill Garage. From 1976 until her retirement in 1996, Alice worked at Kohler Co. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill and the Christian Women's Society. Alice enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends, collecting tabs for Ronald McDonald House, playing cards and dominos. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Ray; five children, Thomas (Mary) Schad of Kiel, Paul Schad of Cleveland and special friend, Tammy, James (Carol) Schad of Cleveland, Marie "Mouse" Schad of School Hill and special friend Phil Huff, and Peter (Darlene) Schad of School Hill. ANTON SCHAD Anton Schad Dies Near School Hill Anton Schad, a life-long resident of the town of Schleswig, passed away at this home two miles west of School Hill at 5:30 Wednesday morning as a result of cancer. He was the son of Anton Schad, well known auctioneer of this vicinity many years ago. Mr. Schad was born September 5, 1859 in Schleswig on the same farm on which he died. On January 17, 1882 he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Hein of Meeme. Seven children were born to this union. They are Peter, Alois, Joseph, and Mrs. Joseph Scharenbroch of School Hill: Mrs. Peter Knier and Ambrose Knier of St. Nazianz; and Mrs. John Scharenbroch of Alverno. Besides his wife and children the deceased also leaves to mourn one sister, Mrs. Peter Fox, of Idaho, and thirty-seven grandchildren. ARLENE M. SCHAD Arlene Schad, 73, of Kiel died Sunday evening, October 27, 2013 at Rivers Bend Nursing Home where she had been a resident since May. She was the former Arlene Koenig, born June 25, 1940 in the Town of Meeme, daughter of the late John & Angeline (Binversie) Koenig. Arlene attended St. Fidelis grade school and Bay Settlement Convent. On August 25, 1962 she married Alfred "Fritz" Schad at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in School Hill. Together the couple farmed in the Town of Schleswig. Fritz preceded her in death on May 13, 1978. Arlene later worked for AA Laun Furniture for 18 years until her retirement. She moved to Kiel in 1994. Arlene was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. She was also very active with the Kiel Senior Center where she especially enjoyed playing cards. Arlene was a former member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill where she was a CCD teacher and was involved with the Christian Women. In her free time she enjoyed embroidering, taking walks, word puzzles and reading. He was employed at the Salvatorian Center in St. Nazianz for 20 years and retired in 1983 from Laun Furniture Factory in Kiel. He was a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church in St.Nazianz. DOROTHY M. SCHAD December Crash Fatal to Woman Mrs. Bernard (Dorothy) Schad, 56, of Menomonee Falls, died Saturday night in St. Nicholas Hospital of injuries suffered in a traffic accident in Sheboygan County last Dec. 15. Mrs. Schad had been a passenger in a car driven by her husband, Bernard, when it was involved in a collision on Highway 141 south of Sheboygan. The driver of the other car, Wayne A. Speckmann, 35, of 2624 S. 10th St., Sheboygan, was charged with driving the wrong way on a divided highway. She never fully regained consciousness at the hospital. (snip) She was born Sept. 8, 1918 at School Hill, daughter of the late William and Mary Scharenbroch. She attended Holy Trinity Catholic School there and was married July 2, 1947, to Mr. Schad. They lived in the School Hill area and then moved to Milwaukee and later to Menomonee Falls. FRANK P. SCHAD Frank P. Schad, age 73, of 18104 Highway X, Kiel, died Thursday afternoon, May 28, 1998, at his home after a declining illness. Frank farmed all his life in the town of Schleswig, until retiring in 1981. After his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking and nature. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic church, School Hill, and a former member of the church’s Holy Name. JOSEPH P. SCHAD (d. 1949) Joseph P. Schad, of Kiel, route 2, a native of the town of Schleswig, died at his home Wednesday evening at the age of 52 years. He was born April 16, 1898, and was married at the age of 29 at St. Gregory’s church, St. Nazianz. His wife, Theresa, survives, together with the following children: Bernard, of Cleveland route 1; Mrs. Gertrude Litz, of Kiel route 1, and Norman, Frank, Josephine, Alois, Bernadette, Raymond, Alfred, Mary, Anita and Roman, at home. Five grandchildren; two brothers, Peter of Kiel route 1, and Alois of New Holstein, and three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Anhalt and Mrs. Ambrose Knier, of St. Nazianz, and Mrs. Cecelia Scharenbroch, of Kiel route 1, also survive. One sister, Mrs. John Scharenbroch, preceded Mr. Schad in death. Mr. Schad was a member of the Holy Name society of Holy Trinity church at School Hill, and members of the society will hold a vigil at the residence at 8 p.m. Friday. MARGARETHA SCHAD (d. 1934) Mrs. Margaret(sic) Schad Of Town of Schleswig Is Summoned Mrs. Margaret Schad passed away Friday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the home of her son, Joseph, town of Schleswig. Death was caused by heart failure. Mrs. Schad, nee Miss Margaret Stein, was born February 9, 1861, in the town of Meeme, and in 1881, she was married at the St. Fidelis church there to Anton Schad of the town of Schleswig. After their marriage the couple moved to the homestead farm, where Mrs. Schad passed away. Her husband preceded her in death in 1929. Survivors are seven children, Peter and Alois of School Hill; Joseph at home, Mrs. Peter Anhalt, Mrs. Ambrose Knier of St. Nazianz, Mrs. Joseph Scharenbroch of School Hill, Mrs. John Scharenbroch, Alverno, Wis.; forty-four grandchildren, two brothers, Peter Stein of Spring Valley, and Adam Stein of School Hill; two sisters, Mrs. Peter Koenig and Mrs. George Schwoerer who live near St. Nazianz. Schad is survived by his wife, the former Margaret Knier, three daughters, Mrs. Carl A. RAYMOND SCHAD Raymond J. Schad, 72, of 12210 Mill Place Road, Kiel (School Hill) died Wednesday evening, May 24, 2006 at Calumet Medical Center, Chilton. Ray was born April 12, 1934 in the town of Schleswig, son of the late Joseph & Theresa Meyer Schad. He attended Holy Trinity School. On October 22, 1952 he married Alice Ramminger at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, New Holstein. Alice preceded him in death on November 14, 2004. Ray worked at the former Hingiss Inc, Kiel and Vogel Chevrolet, School Hill as a mechanic for a number of years before purchasing the School Hill Garage in 1967. In 1976 he went to work at Kohler Co. for 8 years and retired from Tecumseh Products, New Holstein. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill and the Men's Club. He also was a member of the School Hill Sportsman Club. Ray was a wonderful father and grandpa and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed reading and playing a good game of cards. EDWIN F. SCHAEFER Edwin F. Schaefer, 92, formerly of School Hill died Tuesday afternoon, September 3, 2013 at Harmony West, Manitowoc. He was born August 24, 1921 in Mt. Calvary, son of the late Joseph & Anna (Schoenborn) Schaefer. He attended Catholic School in Marytown. Edwin was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving his country during World War II. On May 10, 1950 he married Josephine Schad at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill. Edwin worked at Bartel Dairy as a milk hauler for a number of years. He was later employed at Kohler Company for 31 years until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill and the Men's Club He was also a membeer of the Dartball League and Kohler Quarter Century Club. Edwin enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening, deer hunting, ice fishing and listening and watching baseball. ALPHONS SCHARENBROCH Alphons Scharenbroch, age 88, was born to eternal life on July 31, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. Al was born on March 31, 1924, in School Hill to the late William & Mary (Miller) Scharenbroch. He graduated from Kiel high school in 1942. He was a proud World War II veteran, serving in the US Army in the Pacific. He married Agnes Krcma on September 4, 1948 and they were together for 63 wonderful years. He worked for Manitowoc County DHIA, Badger Breeders and retired in 1986 from the State Bank of Kiel. He had many interests outside of work and during his retirement. Al enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing cards with family, singing in the church choir, and attending many kids' and grandkids' events. He was a member of the Kiel VFW, Post 6707. He was also a member of the Clipper City Chordsmen for 25 years. He had the opportunity to travel and was very proud of having visited all 50 states. Always active in his later years, he and Agnes hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon-twice! The first time was in 1990 when he was 66, and later in 1993 when he was 69. At 86 he traveled to Washington DC on the Old Glory Honor Flight for World War II veterans. He also truly enjoyed his "farm" in Kiel, planting thousands of trees, as a member of the Tree Conservation Program, building his cottage and just enjoying nature. In his last year, Al and Agnes spent their time between their cottage on the farm and many new friends at the Felician Village in Manitowoc. He is survived by his wife Agnes, his daughters Kathy (Ric) Canepa, Eileen (Sean Killian) Scharenbroch, Marleen (Billy) Jackson, Joleen (Eddie) Kane, Christine (Tim) Vetter and Noreen (Tim) Eichstaedt. He is also survived by siblings Francis, Simon, Tony, Ray (Caroline) Scharenbroch, Bernice (Eugene) Schnell and Betty Mae Owens; in-laws Colette Scharenbroch, Bernice Scharenbroch, Violet Scharenbroch, Raymond Krcma, Leonard Krema, Eleanor Nelson, Beatrice (Gerhardt) Cisler, Jeanette (Karl) Kudick and Jimmy (Eileen) Krcma. He is survived by grandchildren Melissa (Brian) Pfeifer, Christian (Jenna) Canepa, Kathryn (Ryan Cameron) Canepa, Aimee Canepa, Connor and Seamus Killian, Emily (Phil) Webb, Ashley LaBelle, Cassandra & Makayla Vetter and Taylor, Megan and Noah Eichstaedt. He is also survived by step-grandchildren Andrew (Monica) Kane, and Stephanie (Jason) Russ. Great grandchildren include Madeline and Grace Pfeifer and Harper Webb. Step-great grandchild is Liliana Russ. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. ANNA SCHARENBROCH Anna Scharenbroch, age 81, of 3543 Dolbeer street, died Wednesday in a local hospital. She was born in School Hill, Wisconsin and has been a resident of the state of California for 35 years and of Eureka for the past four years. Survivors include four brothers, Peter A. Scharenbroch of St. Nazianz, Wisconsin; William Scharenbroch and Joseph Scharenbroch of School Hill, Wisconsin; John Scharenbroch of Manitowoc, Wisconsin; and a number of other relatives in the East. BERNARD SCHARENBROCH Bernard J. Scharenbroch, 88, died April 14, 2005, in Lebanon, Pa. He was born Oct. 8, 1916, in the Town of Meeme, son of the late William and Mary (Miller) Scharenbroch. Bernard served in the U.S. Army during WW II. On Sept. 14, 1940, he married the former Colette Merget. For many years he was employed by the Cleaver Brooks Boiler Co. of Lebanon, Pa. as the Inventory Manager and also ran the parts department. Bernard was a very active member of many organizations in the Lebanon, Pa., area. He is survived by his wife, Colette; a son, Donald (Peggy) Scharenbroch of Detroit, Mich.; a daughter, Karen Elia of Lebanon, Pa.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. BERNICE SCHARENBROCH Bernice A. Scharenbroch, age 93, School Hill, died Saturday, December 24, 2016 at Caring Hands Assisted Living, New Holstein. Bernice was born on July 21, 1923 to Frank and Amanda (Rabe) Karstaedt. On May 15, 1943 she married the late Herbert Scharenbroch at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in School Hill. They farmed in the town of Meeme from 1943 - 1976 and Bernice also worked at Brost Food Market in School Hill for 13 years. In addition Bernice and Herb started a greenhouse at their home in School Hill where they raised and sold bedding plants. They also sold produce at the farmer's market in Manitowoc for 25 years. In addition to farming, working at Brost and gardening, Bernice enjoyed many hobbies. She enjoyed attending horse shows with her family and also sewed many show outfits for her daughters. Crocheting was another passion of Bernice's and she made many afghans and bedspreads throughout her life. However, what Bernice enjoyed most of all was playing her button box accordion. Survivors include two daughters: Scharleen (John) Schmahl, New Holstein and Sandy (Chuck) Thiel, Kiel; three grandchildren: Timothy and Trish Schmahl, Kimberly and Chris Hager, Valerie and Ian Dumbleton; six great-grandchildren: Addison and Carter Schmahl, Landon and Braylon Hager and Remi and Reggie Dumbleton. CECILIA SCHARENBROCH Mrs. Joseph Scharenbroch, 64, of Route 1, Kiel, died suddenly early today at her farm home east of School Hill. Nee Cecelia(sic) Schad, she was born Dec. 2, 1888, in the town of Schleswig, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Anton Schad. She was married to Joseph Knier in May, 1910. Following the death of her husband she was married to Joseph Scharenbroch in 1919. The couple made their home on a farm near School Hill since their marriage. Survivors are her husband; five sons, Andrew Scharenbroch of Sheboygan, Lawrence and Paul Scharenbroch at home, Florian Scharenbroch, a student at Platteville State Teachers’ college, and the Rev. Aloysius Knier, an army chaplain at Fort Jackson, S.C.; and two daughters, Mrs. Jack Conway of Sheboygan and Mrs. Irvin Vogds of Milwaukee. She is also survived by two brothers, Aloys Schad of New Holstein and Peter of School Hill; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Anhalt and Mrs. Ambrose Knier of St. Nazianz; and 10 grandchildren. HERBERT SCHARENBROCH Herbert P. Scharenbroch, age 90, of 16031 Co. Rd. X (School Hill), Kiel died Sunday evening, July 3, 2011 at Homestead Care Center, New Holstein. He was born September 30, 1920 in School Hill, son of the late William & Mary (Miller) Scharenbroch. He attended Holy Trinity Grade School. On May 15, 1943 Herbert married Bernice Karstaedt at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in School Hill. He farmed in the town of Meeme from 1943-1976 and also worked at Tecumseh Products, New Holstein for 34 years, retiring in 1983. Herbert was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill and also was a member of the American & Wisconsin Quarter Horse Association. He was a lover of horses and won many awards through the American and Wisconsin Quarter Horse Association. In retirement he was involved with and sold produce at the Manitowoc Farmers Market for 25 years and enjoyed dancing and polka music. JOSEPH SCHARENBROCH (d. 1961) Joseph H. Scharenbroch, 83, of R. 1, Kiel, died Monday at his home in School Hill after an illness of one month. MARY SCHARENBROCH Mrs. Mary Scharenbroch, 80, of School Hill, widow of William, died Saturday morning at the Calumet Homestead, New Holstein, where she had resided the past year. She was born August 14, 1892 in the Town of Meeme, Manitowoc County, a daughter of the late Anton and Christine Miller. She attended the district’s Woodland School. On November 16, 1915 she was married to Mr. Scharenbroch at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill. After marriage the couple operated a farm near School Hill until retirement in 1949 when they moved to School Hill. The couple observed their golden wedding in November 1965. Her husband died in April, 1966. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and its Christian Mothers Society. Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Bernard Schad of Menomonee Falls, Mrs. Eugene Schnell of Route 1, Kiel and Mrs. Terence Owens of Chilton; eight sons, Bernard of Lebanon, Pennsylvania, Herbert, Francis, Alphons, Simon and Anthony, all of Route 1, Kiel, William Jr. of Sheboygan Falls, and Raymond of Kiel; 38 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Miss Rose Miller of Milwaukee and a brother Frank Miller of Sheboygan. MICHAEL J. SCHARENBROCH Michael Joseph Scharenbrock, 20, of School Hill, died Saturday in a airplane crash in Athens, Ga. Funeral services will be at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, and at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill. The Rev. He attended Holy Trinity Grade School, School Hill, and graduated from Kiel High School in 1969. He was a member of the National Honor Society. He was presently a student at the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee where he was a chairman of publicity for the Italian Club. PETER A. SCHARENBROCH Peter A. Scharenbroch, 92, a former St. Nazianz resident, died Thursday evening, December 28, 1989 at Chilton Village Health Care Center, where he was residing for one month. Mr. Scharenbroch was born June 11, 1897 at School Hill, son of the late Christian and Mary Magdalen Herr Scharenbroch. He attended Woodland School, Town of Schleswig and was a graduate of St. John College, Collegeville, Minnesota, where he took a short course in Music. He worked and resided at the Salvatorian Fathers, St. Nazianz, most of his life. While at St. Nazianz he was Director of Studens and Brothers Choirs and general Organist. Mr. Scharenbroch was the Instructor of the Freshman Music Class and later worked in the Admissions Office of the Salvatorian Seminary. He set up a filling system of Office and former Student Records, Student Activities and Alumni Association Files. He also translated German language records for S.D.S. Four years ago he moved to Milwaukee to the Salvatorian Retirement Home. Jordan House. He was a Veteran of the United States Army during World War II and served from 1942 to 1944. RUTH SHARENBROCH Ruth H. Scharenbroch, 83, of 15414 Co. Rd. X, Kiel (School Hill), died Wednesday afternoon, November 5, 2008 after a brave battle with cancer at Homestead Care Center, New Holstein where she resided the past month. She was the former Ruth Koenig, born February 28, 1925 in the Town of Meeme, daughter of the late John & Angeline Binversie Koenig. She attended St. Fidelis Grade School in the Town of Meeme. On August 21, 1946 Ruth married Francis Scharenbroch at St. Fidelis Catholic Church. The couple farmed most of their life in the Town of Meeme until their retirement. Ruth was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill and the Christian Women's Society. She also volunteered at the Salvatorian Center in New Holstein. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, crocheting, needlepoint, crossword puzzles, gardening, playing card games and craft projects. WILLIAM SCHARENBROCH William Scharenbroch Sr., 78, of School Hill, a retired Town of Meeme (Manitowoc County) farmer, died Thursday afternoon at St. Nicholas Hospital. Mr. Scharenbroch had been brought to the hospital after becoming ill at home Wednesday. A native of Meeme, he was born Aug. 17, 1887, a son of the late Christ and Mary Magdalene Herr Scharenbroch. He attended Holy Trinity Catholic School at School Hill and married Mary Miller, also of Meeme in Holy Trinity Church, Nov. 16, 1915. Following marriage the couple farmed near School Hill until retiring and moving into the village in 1949. They celebrated their golden wedding in Oct., 1965. He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish and its Holy Name Society. CHRISTIAN SCHARENBROCK School Hill – Christian Scharenbrock died Friday, Oct. 15, at his home in School Hill at the age of 81 years, after an illness with kidney trouble and other complications. He was born Feb. 2, 1845, in Germany, near Cologne. At the age of 10, he came to America with his parents who settled on their homestead near School Hill, where Mr. Scharenbrock lived until 7 years ago, when he turned his farm over to his son, Joseph, and settled in the village of School Hill. His marriage to Mary Maddalen Herr took place in 1871. He was one of the first settlers here, having lived here 71 years, and was one of the founders of Trinity church at School Hill. He was a respected citizen of this neighborhood and liked by all who knew him. The survivors are, his widow, 7 sons and 3 daughters, Joseph on the old homestead, William on a farm near School Hill, John C. on a farm near Manitowoc and Peter A. At home; Mrs. A. P. Mallmann of Sheboygan, Mrs. Nels Lotten of School Hill, and Miss Anna in California, and 18 grandchildren. The funeral was held Monday morning at the Catholic Church at School Hill, of which the deceased was a life-long member. Many relatives and friends from far and near attended. ALLEN EMIL SCHNEIDER Allen "Big Al" E. Schneider age 68 of 14628 W. Washington Road, Newton, died unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005 at his home. He was born Feb. 29, 1936 in Sheboygan, son of the late Henry and Rosalia Wendel Schneider. He attended Kiel High School. On Nov. 10, 1962, he married Audrey Otto. Al farmed in the town of Meeme until 1977 when he moved to School Hill where he owned and operated Hardware Hank and also did welding. He was also a school bus driver for the Kiel School District for 27 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany. Al enjoyed hunting and model railroading. REGINA SCHWARTZ Mrs. Walter (Regina) Schwartz, 79, Rt. 3, Crivitz, died Monday evening, Oct. 8, 1990 at a local nursing home. She was born May 1, 1911 in Green Bay to the late John and Annastisia (Buyarski) Klarkowski. On March 5, 1955 she married Walter Schwartz in Green Bay. Regina had served in the Women's Army Corp. for three and a half years during World War II. She was a member of the Marinette BAV and the VFW Auxiliary. WALTER F. SCHWARTZ Walter F. Schwartz, age 72, formerly of Route 3, Crivitz, died early Tuesday morning, August 25, 1992, at a local elderly care home. EARL C. SIEVERT Earl C. Sievert, age 85, formerly of 1803 Hoover St., New Holstein, died Sunday afternoon, May 5, 2002 at the Calumet Homestead in New Holstein where he had resided for the past 2 1/2 years. He was born on Aug. 6, 1916 in the town of Schleswig, son of the late Herman and Edna Brocker Sievert. He attended Hillside Grove School in the town of Schleswig. On May 25, 1940 he married Frances Koenig at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in School Hill. She died Oct. 29, 1980. On July 3, 1982 he married Alice Lindemann Weber. Earl was employed at Stoelting Inc. in Kiel for 36 years retiring in August 1981. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, New Holstein, a former member of the Kiel Knights of Columbus and a former Kiel alderman. Survivors include his wife: Alice, a resident of the Calumet Homestead; two children: Kerry (Bonnie) Sievert of Manitowoc; and Karen (Jim) Becker of Chilton; six grandchildren: Katie, Kevin, Erin Sievert; Wayne, James and Jeremy Becker; and three great-grandchildren: A.J., Cearra and Brandon Becker. CAROLINE STEFFEN Plan Rites For Caroline Steffen At School Hill St. Nazianz, Wis.—(Special)—Funeral services for Caroline Steffen, 78, who passed away Thursday morning at her home in town of Schleswig, near School Hill, will be held Saturday morning at 9:30 o’clock at the Holy Trinity church, School Hill. The Rev. Solanus Freischmidt, S.D.S., will be in charge of the services and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Steffen was born Caroline Fehrenbach Oct. 20, 1859, in Germany, and came to America in 1862 and settled with her parents at St. Nazianz. After her marriage to John Steffen the couple lived on several farms near St. Nazianz for many years. Her husband, two daughters, and three sons preceded her in death. Survivors are seven sons: Nick of St. Nazianz, John, William, Richard and Carl of School Hill, Jochim of town of Meeme, and Frank of Charlestown; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. JOHN STEFFEN Called By Death John Steffen Sr. died at his home, one mile north of Louis Corners, on Wednesday evening of last week, after several months' illness with tuberculosis. KATHERINE STEFFEN Katherine Steffen, age 90, of 12130 Marken Road, Kiel (School Hill), died peacefully Friday evening, February 27, 1998, at the family cottage at Kelly Lake (rural Suring, Wis.) Raymond preceded her in death on February 2, 1983. Katherine was a life-long member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and a member of the Christian Women's Organization. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Katherine enjoyed card games, fishing and boating at Kelly Lake, and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her love, kindness and generous spirit. ADAM C. STEIN Adam Stein, 77, Succumbs Friday Adam C. Stein, 77, well-known resident of the town of Meeme, passed away at his home on Route 1, Kiel, at 10:45 p.m. Friday after a year’s illness. He was born April 17, 1862, son of Peter and Eva Stein, and in 1913 was married to Miss Rosa Mayr, at Holy Trinity church School Hill. He is survived by his wife, one son, Oscar, of Oshkosh, two daughters, the Misses Agnes and Charlotte, at home; one brother, Peter; two sisters, Mrs. George Schwoerer and Mrs. Peter Koenig, all of St. Nazianz, and a grand- daughter. They operated a farm on Route 1, Valders until March 1963 when they moved to School Hill. He had been working for Scotty Smith Construction Company of Sheboygan. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill and of its Holy Name Society. He married the former Kitty Warnock on February 6, 1965 at Sacred heart Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Mr. Swoboda was an Electrician at Tecumseh Products, New Holstein, for the past 16 years. He was in the United States navy from 1962 to 1966, serving on the U.S.S. Enterprise. Mr. Swoboda was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill and a member of the Local 1259 of the International Association of Machinist. IRENE URBANEC Mrs. Stephen (Irene) Urbanec, age 84, of 645 S. Mitchell Ave., Arlington Heights, Ill., died early on Monday morning, Aug. 27, 2007, at her summer residence at Spring Lake. The former Irene McNeil, was born on Jan. 27, 1923, in St. Paul, Minn., daughter of the late Robert and Doris (Roberts) McNeil. She grew up in Manitowoc, and was a 1940 graduate of Lincoln High School, Manitowoc. Irene attended the University of Wisconsin Manitowoc-Extension and the Chicago Art Institute. Irene was an accomplished artist, worked for the Arlington Heights Public Library and taught art at Our Lady of Wayside Catholic Grade School in Arlington Heights. On Sept. 9, 1950, Irene was married to Stephen Urbanec at Holy Innocents Catholic Church in Manitowoc. She was a member of Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church, the Church's Altar and Rosary Society. (Survivors omitted for privacy) She was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers. ASHLEY WAGNER Ashley C. Wagner, 75, of 11630 Schad Road, Kiel, died Tuesday evening, June 22, 1999 peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born June 18, 1924 in the town of Rockland, son of the late Theodore and Minnie Wegner Wagner. On Sept. 11, 1946 he married Laura Koenig at St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Spring Valley. For 11 years he worked at Nestle’s Co., Valders. Prior to Ashley’s retirement in 1987 he worked at Kohler Co. for 32 years. He was also Constable for the Town of Schleswig for 30 years and a Manitowoc County Sheriff Deputy for 30 years. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic church, School Hill. Ashley was an avid sportsman, he enjoyed his hobby farm and his greatest pleasure was spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Laura; two sons, Dale (Brenda) Wagner of St. Anna and Eugene (Jerri) Wagner of New Holstein; four daughters, Vicky (Robert) Schweitzer of Kiel, Barbara (Daniel) Kienbaum of Kiel, Nancy (Robert) Schneider of New Holstein and Diane (Vern) Schmitz of New Holstein; 16 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren, one brother, Henry R. MICHAEL WAGNER (d. 1927) 82-Year Old Meeme Resident Dies Monday The death of Michael Wagner, aged 82 years, one of the oldest pioneers of Meeme, occurred on Monday at 10 p.m., at the homestead farm of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. William Ramminger in the town of Meeme. The deceased was born in Germany in March, 1845, and was brought to this country with his parents at the age of two years. The family lived in Schwarzwald for a number of years and then in Meeme. Mr. Wagner was united in marriage to Agnes Klein fifty-three years ago. Since the death of his wife some thirty years ago the deceased has been making his home with his daughter. The survivors are four daughters, Mrs. Jacob Ramminger of Schleswig, Mrs. William Ramminger of Meeme, Mrs. Gustave Ninmer of School Hill, and Mrs. Joseph Knop of Kiel; two sons, Joseph Wagner of Eaton and Michael of California; and one brother, Conrad Wagner of Plymouth. Also 20 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.The Rev. Fr. JOSEPH WASMER SR. Joseph Wasmer, 87, of Rt. 1, Kiel, died Friday at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Mrs. Wasmer died in March 1967. Arthur was a lifelong resident of the town of Liberty and the former town of Liberty constable. He was employed at the Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company and also farmed in the town of Liberty. Arthur was a member of the Pigeon Lake Sportsmen's Cub and Boilermakers Union-Shipbuilding. EUGENE F. WILLMAS Eugene F. Willmas, 79 of 12035 Marken Road, School Hill, WI (Town of Meeme) died Tuesday evening May 12, 2009 at Willowdale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, New Holstein He was born February 3, 1930 in the Town of Meeme, son of the late Matt & Veronica (Bogenschuetz) Willmas. He attended St. Fidelis Grade School in Spring Valley. On May 14, 1955 he married the former Mavis Lechler at St. Gregory Catholic Church in St. Nazianz. Eugene farmed all his life in the Town of Meeme. After retiring from farming he was employed at Mekco & Fessler Feed Mill. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill and the Catholic Knights. Eugene enjoyed woodworking and traveling with his wife after retirement. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mavis one son, Brian of School Hill, one brother and sister-in-law, Tom & Sandy Lechler, Kiel, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Caroline (Bob) Thompson and Bernetta (Miller) Worth and one nephew, Pat Worth.
