EDNA BOELDT Edna A. Boeldt, 76, a former Town of Schleswig resident and a resident of the Calumet Homestead, New Holstein, for the past two years died Thursday afternoon at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton, where she had been a patient for a day. The former Edna Bratz was born Jan. 25, 1907, in the Town of Eaton, a daughter of Otto and Bertha Reichardt Bratz. She attended district school. On July 8, 1925, she married Helmuth Boeldt at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig. The couple farmed in the Town of Schleswig until retirement in 1962. She was a member of Bethlehem UCC and of its Ladies Aid Society. Survivors include her husband, of New Holstein; six daughters, two sons, 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and a sister Mrs. Erna Kabowski of Manitowoc. Prior to her hospitalization, she had resided at Calumet Homestead Nursing Home, New Holstein, the past two years. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig. The Rev. Hilbert Klein, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Boeldt, nee Edna Bratz, was born Jan. 25, 1907, in the Town of Eaton, daughter of the late Otto and Bertha Reichardt Bratz. She attended a district school, Town of Eaton, and was married to Helmuth Boeldt July 8, 1925, at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of (flaw in film not legible) retirement in 1962. She was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ and a former member of the Ladies Aid Society of the church. Survivors include her husband of New Holstein, two sons, Norman Boeldt of Howards Grove and Vernon Boeldt of New Holstein; six daughters, Mrs. Kermit (Mabel) Liermann and Mrs. Markus (Lorraine) Nagel of Valders, Mrs. Otto (Marion) Hartwig of Plymouth, Mrs. Dnnennis (sic) (Bernice) Hasenstein of Sheboygan, Mrs. Donald (Betty) Groth of Oshkosh and Mrs. Garret (Jane) Hanke of Elkhart Lake; a sister, Mrs. Erna Kujawski of Manitowoc, 32 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A daughter and a brother preceded her in death. HELMUTH BOELDT Helmuth O. Boeldt, 88, former Town of Schleswig resident, died Tuesday evening, June 28, 1988 at Calumet Homestead, New Holstein, where he resided for the past 7 1/2 years. Funeral services will be 1:30 pm Friday at Bethlehem United Church of Christ. Rev. James Sizelove will officiate with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Boeldt was born April 14, 1900 at the Town of Meeme, son of the late William and Bertha Baars Boeldt. He attended grade school in the Town of New Holstein. He married the former Edna Bratz on July 8, 1925 at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig. Mr. Boeldt worked at Volrath Company of Sheboygan before moving to the Town of Schleswig, where he farmed until retiring in 1952. His wife preceded him in death April 28, 1983. Mr. Boeldt was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ. Survivors include two sons, Norman Boeldt of Howards Grove and Vernon Boeldt of New Holstein; six daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Kermit (Mabel) Liermann and Mrs. Markus (Lorraine) Nagel, both of Valders, Mrs. Otto (Marion) Hartwig of Plymouth, Mrs. Dennis (Bernice) Hasenstein of Sheboygan, Mrs. Donald (Betty) Groth of Oshkosh and Mrs. Garret (Jane) Hanke of rural Plymouth; a sister, Mrs. Hilda Klemm of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin; 33 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren also survive. ANNA BRATZ Mrs. F. Bratz Called to Rest Mrs. Frank Bratz, aged 68, died at her home in the town of Schleswig on Monday of heart disease. Funeral services were held this Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the C. J. Meiselwitz Funeral Home, and at 2 o'clock at the Bethlehem Evangelical and Reformed church in Schleswig, with the Rev. A. H. Hammann officiating. Interment was made in the adjoining church cemetery. The deceased was born in the town of Schleswig, daughter of Ernst and Fredericka Voss, and was married to Mr. Bratz December 10, 1890. The couple lived on an Eaton farm for 18 years and 31 years ago moved to their present homestead. Survivors are her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Ernst Westphalen of the town of Eaton, a son, Arthur at home; a grandchild; five sisters, Mrs. William Jochimsen of New Holstein, Mrs. Edward Lueloff of Withee, Mrs. Otto Karstaedt of the town of Sheboygan, Mrs. William Ninmer of the town of New Holstein, and Mrs. William Schnell of the town of Schleswig. ARTHUR BRATZ Funeral services for Arthur O. Bratz, 70, R. 1, Kiel, a retired Town of Schleswig farmer who died Tuesday at St. Nicholas Hospital, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Schleswig. The Rev. John F. Baumann, pastor of St. Peter United Church of Christ, Kiel, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Bratz was born July 7, 1897, in the Town of Eaton, a son of the late Frank and Anna Voss Bratz. He attended schools in Eaton and Schleswig. On March 11, 1919, he married Emma Burkhardt of the Town of Herman. The couple farmed in Schleswig. Mr. Bratz retired six years ago, when their son, Kenneth, took over operation of the farm. He was a member of Bethlehem UCC. Survivors are his wife and one son, Kenneth. He was preceded in death by one sister. BERTHA BRATZ Mrs. Bertha Bratz, 92, a former Town of Schleswig resident, died early Monday morning at Park Lawn Nursing Home, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig. The Rev. Donald King will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Bratz, nee Bertha Reichardt, was born July 1, 1880, in Germany, daughter of the late William and Augusta Rusch Reichardt. She came to the U.S. with her parents at the age of two. They located in the Town of Liberty. She was married to Otto Bratz July 1, 1904, in the Town of Eaton, where they lived until 1946, moving to the Town of Schleswig. Her husband preceded her in death April 12, 1950. She was a member of the Bethlehem United Church of Christ and Ladies Aid Society of the church. Survivors include a son, Herbert, of Rt. 1, New Holstein, two daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Erna) Kujawski, of Manitowoc and Mrs. Helmuth (Edna) Boeldt, of Rt. 1, Kiel, 11 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. EMMA BRATZ Mrs. Emma Bratz, 74, of 802 7th St, Kiel, died Monday at St. Nicholas Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born on March 1, 1901, in the Town of Herman, she was a daughter of the late Philip and Eva Aschenbach Burkhardt. On March 10, 1919 she was married to Arthur Bratz of the Town of Schleswig. The couple farmed the Bratz homestead in the Town of Schleswig until his death in 1968 when she moved to Kiel. Mrs. Bratz was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig, and its Ladies Aid Society. She also was a member of the Kiel Senior Citizens. Survivors include a son Kenneth, Kiel; a sister, Mrs. Oscar Rautmann, Sheboygan, and three brothers, Edgar, rural Kiel, Walter, Sheboygan, and Paul, rural Sheboygan Falls. FRANK BRATZ Marriage of Frank Bratz and Anna Voss. Married Dec. 10, 1889 at Reformed Church, Town of Schleswig. Frank Bratz was born in Germany of Michael Bratz and Dorothea Lulloff. Anna P. Anna Emma or Emma Anna? ********** Rites Held Wednesday for Frank Bratz Funeral services were held from the Bethlehem E and R church Wednesday afternoon for Frank Bratz, 93, who died at his home Sunday afternoon. The services were conducted by the Rev. Carl Fried, pastor of the church. Burial was made in the parish cemetery. Mr. Bratz was born in Germany January 11, 1864 and came to this country when he was five years old. The family lived in Manitowoc county. He was married to Miss Emma Voss and they resided on a farm in Eaton for few years, moving to the present Bratz place in Schleswig 51 years ago. Mr. Bratz's only survivors are his son Arthur, and a grandson, Kenneth. His wife died in December, 1933, and a daughter, Mrs. Ernest Westphalen and seven brothers also preceded him in death. HENRY BRATZ Henry Bratz, 88, former county resident, died Tuesday afternoon at St. Nicholas hospital, Sheboygan. He was born in Germany in 1859 and came to Rhine, Sheboygan county, with his parents, at the age of 10 years. He married Miss Anne Kishorst of Sheboygan and they located on a farm in Eaton. Mrs. Bratz died in 1910 and he went to Schleswig to reside with two brothers. Since 1935 he has resided at the Reiss Home for the Aged at Sheboygan. Survivors are a son, Fred of this city; three brothers, William of Texas and Frank and Otto of Schleswig. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Meiselwitz funeral home, Kiel, with interment in the Bethlehem church cemetery in Schleswig. HERBERT BRATZ Herbert H. Bratz, 72, of Route 1, New Holstein, died Saturday afternoon, October 31, at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, where he had been a patient two days. He had been in ill health the past several months. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig. The Rev. Hilbert Klein, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Bratz was born Jan. 5, 1909, in the Town of Eaton, son of the late Otto and Bertha Reichardt Bratz. He attended a district school in the township and married Mabel Karstaedt June 8, 1934, at Bethlehem United Church of Christ. They farmed in the Town of Eaton 12 years before moving to the Town of Schleswig. He had been employed at Whitehouse Milk company, Manitowoc, 20 years and retired in 1972. He was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Miss Joyce Bratz of Sheboygan and two sisters, Mrs. Erna Kujawski of Manitowoc and Mrs. Helmuth Boeldt of New Holstein. A sister preceded him in death. HILDA BRATZ Hilda, the 11 years old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Bratz, residing near St Nazianz, died at the Sheboygan hospital on Tuesday, of pernicious anaemia, after six months illness. Several blood transfusions were performed in an effort to save the girl's life, but without much benefit. The funeral will be held on Saturday afternoon at 1:30, from the home. Rev. 0. JOYCE BRATZ Joyce A. Bratz, age 74, of 1815 Jackson St., New Holstein, died Friday morning, January 14, 2011 at Chilton Care Center where she was a resident the past two months. She was born February 26, 1936, daughter of the late Herbert & Mabel (Karstaedt) Bratz. She was a Kiel High School graduate. Joyce received her R.N. Diploma from Deaconess Hospital in Milwaukee and her Bachelors Degree from UW Madison. She was employed in the nursing field in the area including St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan, Shady Lane Nursing Home, Manitowoc, the home health care in Chilton and surrounding area and Plymouth Hospital. She was a traveling nurse in local nursing homes and worked with the Red Blood Bank. Joyce worked with the commission for aging for Manitowoc County. Joyce was a lifelong member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig where she was a member of the Bible Study, member of the youth fellowship and taught Sunday school occasionally. She was also a member of the Calumet County Master Gardeners Association and a 30 year member of the Toastmasters. She enjoyed weaving and attending farmers markets, selling her home grown produce. Survivors include cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services for Joyce will be held at 6:00 pm., Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, 11608 Lax Chapel Road, Kiel with Rev. Ashley Nolte, pastor officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service. MABEL BRATZ Mabel Bratz, age 89, of 10415 Meggers Road, New Holstein, died peacefully at her home on Sunday evening, January 4, 1998. Funeral Services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday (TONIGHT), January 7, 1998, at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, town of Schleswig, with Rev. Robert Johnston and Rev. Melinda Feller officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. The former Mabel Karstaedt was born November 17, 1908, in the town of Schleswig, the daughter of the late Charles and Clara Schnell Karstaedt. She attended grade school at Five Corners. On June 8, 1934, she married Herbert H. Bratz at Bethlehem UCC, town of Schleswig. He preceded her in death on October 31, 1981. Prior to her retirement, Mabel was employed at Lake to Lake, Kiel, for many years. She was a member of Bethlehem UCC, town of Schleswig, where she was a charter member of the church choir and was also active in Sunday School, Ladies Aid, and Bible Studies. Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Bratz, rural New Holstein; one aunt, Mrs. Walter (Mabel) Karstaedt, Sheboygan; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Walter Karstaedt; her aunt, Amalia Schnell Karstaedt; and cousins. MICHAEL BRATZ (d. 1931) Funeral services for Michael Bratz, 59, a native of the town of Rhine, were held Wednesday afternoon at 1 o’clock from the Meiselwitz undertaking parlors, and at 1:30 from the Schleswig Reformed church, with interment in the adjoining cemetery. The Rev. August Hammann conducted the last rites. The deceased was born May 24, 1871, in the town of Rhine, the son of the late Michael and Dorothy Lulloff Bratz, natives of Germany. He was a blacksmith by trade. He had recently made his home in Belgium, Wis., but since Nov. 26 he was confined to the St. Nicholas hospital, Sheboygan, where he passed away. He was unmarried. OTTO BRATZ Otto Bratz, 80, a retired town of Eaton farmer, died Wednesday evening at his home in the town of Schleswig north of Kiel. He had been in failing health for two years. A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael Bratz, the deceased was born in Schleswig in 1869 and after his marriage to the former Bertha Reichard of Liberty in 1904, settled on a farm in the town of Eaton. The couple had farmed there until their retirement four years ago when they moved to their most recent home. Surviving are the wife; a son, Herbert of Schleswig, two daughters, Mrs. Joseph Kujawski of Manitowoc and Mrs. Helmuth Boeldt of Schleswig; and 10 grandchildren. No newspaper named, April 12, 1950


PHILIP BRATZ Drowns in Two Feet of Water at Manitowoc Believed to have lost his way while west of the city limits of Manitowoc early Sunday morning, Philip Bratz, 71, a bachelor living at route 1, Kiel, drowned in two feet of water, the result of the recent rains, on Thirtieth street, between Franklin and Clark streets in Manitowoc. The body was discovered, face downward, by George Brixius of 810 S. Twenty-eighth street, in Manitowoc. Coroner Gerald Rau pronounced the death accidental and said there would be no inquest. Mr. Bratz, who had been living with his nephews, Herbert and Arthur Bratz, had been missing from his home for two or three days. The nephews accompanied the body to Kiel, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the C. J. Meiselwitz Funeral home and at 2 p.m. at the Bethlehem Reformed church in the town of Schleswig. The Rev. August Hammann will officiate and burial will be made in the church cemetery. Mr. Bratz was born on a farm in the town of Rhine on January 31, 1874, the son of Michael and Dorothea Bratz. He resided in the town of Eaton for sixty years. Survivors are five brothers, William of Texas, Frank of Schleswig, Otto of the Town of Eaton, Fred of Stanley, Wis., and Henry of Sheboygan. Two brothers preceded him in death. RUTH BUTLER Ruth H. Gierke Butler, 60, passed away at her daughter's home in St. Ann, Mo., on March 17, 2002. Ruth fought a courageous battle with M.S. for over 30 years. Ruth was born Aug. 12, 1941 at the Gierke's home near Wilke's Lake in Kiel. She was the daughter of Walter and Ida Wegener Gierke. Ruth is survived by two daughters, Jody (Dean) Tedeschi and Alicia (Robert) O'Neal of St. Ann, Mo.; one son, Dr. Brett Butler of Macomb, Mich.; three grandchildren, Charles and Jason Tedeschi and Alexis O'Neal; and six siblings, Vern (Donald) Sagle of Wausau, Walter (Dianne) Gierke of Kiel, Donald (Marcie) McCabe of Kiel, Phillip McCabe of Sheboygan, Stanley (Verna) McCabe of New Holstein and Ruby (Ralph) Pitsch of Sheboyga. She was preceded in death by her parents. Ruth made her home in Oregon, Ohio and was a foster mother to numerous children while in Ohio. She moved to live with her daughters in St. Ann, in 1999 due to complications from her illness. Ruth was a fighter to the end. DOROTHY K. CONRAD Dorothy K. Conrad, 79, of Kiel, passed away at her daughter’s home on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003, after a long battle with cancer. She was born March 9, 1924, at Oklahoma City, Okla., a daughter of the late Herman and Inez Trowbridge Flitterson. Dorothy attended school in Oklahoma and later worked at the Hostess Cupcake Co, until 1946. On Dec. 31, 1946 she married Valentine J. Conrad at her parents’ home. The couple was long time residents of Kiel. Her husband Valentine preceded her in death on Sept. 18, 1982. Dorothy was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ in the Town of Schleswig and was a volunteer at the Kiel Nutrition Center. Dorothy enjoyed sewing and traveling and spending time with her family and many friends. (Survivors omitted for privacy) She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. VALENTINE CONRAD Farm Tractor Tips, Kiel Area Man Killed A Town of Schleswig man died of crushing injuries Saturday afternoon on his farm when the tractor he was operating overturned. Deputy Manitowoc County Coroner Nancy Crowley said Valentine J. Conrad, 57, of 13015 Steinthal Road, Kiel, was pinned beneath the tractor when it overturned in hilly, rocky terrain. Authorities said Conrad had gone into a wooded area about 1 pm to cut firewood. When he did not return for supper at 5 pm, his wife and a niece went looking for him. They found Conrad's body about 5:30 pm pinned beneath the overturned tractor. Death was attributed to crushing chest injuries, according to the coroner's office. It was estimated the accident occurred about 2:30 pm. Mr. Conrad was born Feb. 4, 1925 in the Town of Russell, a son of Philip and Louisa Hass Conrad. He was a 1942 graduate of Elkhart Lake High School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942 to 1945 in the Pacific Theater. Mr. Conrad married Dorothy Flitterson Dec. 31, 1946 at Oklahoma city, Okla. ARNOLD DEDERING Arnold H. Dedering, 66, of Howards Grove-Millersville, a former Town of Schleswig farmer, died early today at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born July 12, 1902 in the Town of Eaton, he was a son of the late William and Caroline Radder Dedering. He attended Hillside Grove School. On June 11, 1925 he married the former Florence Karstaedt of the Town of Schleswig at Bethlehem United Church of Christ. The couple settled on a farm in the township which they operated for 33 years. Mr. Dedering retired from farming and moved to Howards Grove-Millersville in 1960 where he was employed at the Millersville Box Co. until his illness. He was a life member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ and a former deacon and treasurer for 15 years of the church. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Violet) Spindler of Howards Grove-Millersville; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. William Balz of rural Kiel and Miss Adela Dedering of Kiel; and four brothers, Arthur Edmund and Armin of Kiel, and Henry of rural Kiel. Fr. Friedrichsmeyer tied the knot. The bride appeared in a dress of white satin and carried a bouquet of roses. The Misses Eva Karstaedt, cousin of the bride and Laura Dedering, sister of the groom were bridesmaid. They wore dresses of powder blue and orchid respectively. Edwin Hungsberg and Otto Radder attended the groom. The reception was held at Steinthal Hall were supper was served at six o'clock. A large number of guests were in attendance. ELSA DEDERING Mrs. Henry Dedering Dies Wednesday Morning Mrs. Henry Dedering, age 68, of Route 2 Kiel, passed away at her home Wednesday morning. She had been in ill health for the past six months. Born Elsa Henning, December 9, 1896, she was the daughter of the late August and Louise Henning of the town of Schleswig. She attended district schools in the area. She married Henry T. Dedering of Schleswig on November 28, 1917, at the Bethlehem United Church of Christ. The couple lived in the Town of Schleswig, two miles northeast of Millhome, where they operated a cheese factory until 1948. Mrs. Dedering was a member of the Bethlehem Ladies Aid and a former treasurer of the organization. Survivors include her husband; one daughter, one son, six grand- children and one great grandchild; a sister, Mrs. August Wriedt; and a brother, Edgar Henning, both of Route 1, Kiel. Another brother, Otto, preceded her in death in 1963. The funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Schleswig. The Rev. A.A. Dedering, age 96, of 1009 Millersville Ave., Howards Grove, died Monday evening, September 18, 2000, at Willowdale Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, New Holstein, where she resided the past 3 1/2 months. Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, September 23, 2000, at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, town of Schleswig, with the Rev. Melinda Feller officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. She is the former Florence Karstaedt born February 6, 1904, in the town of Schleswig, daughter of the late Frank and Wilhelmina Stieghorst Karstaedt. After Florence graduated from Kiel High School in 1922 and Manitowoc County Normal Teachers College in 1923, she taught at Mineral Springs School in the town of Meeme. On June 11, 1925, she married Arnold Dedering at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, town of Schleswig. They farmed in the town of Schleswig until 1960, when they moved to Howards Grove. She also worked at Lakeland College for eight years until her retirement. Her husband preceded her in death on October 18, 1968. She was a life-time member of Bethlehem UCC, a member of the Ladies Aid and a member of the Howards Grove Senior Citizens. Florence's hobbies included crocheting, embroidering, tatting, needlepoint, ceramics and reading. Survivors include one daughter, Violet (Robert) Spindler, Howards Grove, three grandchildren, Sandra (Bruce) Mansker, Susan (Mark) Arnhoelter and Scott Spindler and special friend, Debra Rautmann, all of Howards Grove. She is further survived by seven great grandchildren, Bruce Jr., Derek, Shaun and Kortney Mansker, Jason, Eric and Bryan Arnhoelter. She was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers. He was born April 26, 1894, in the Town of Eaton, Manitowoc County, a son of William Sr. and Caroline Radder Dedering. He attended Hillside District School in the Town of Schleswig. CLARENCE DICKRELL Clarence Dickrell Dies Unexpectedly Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for Clarence J. Dickrell, 47, of 918 Fourth Street, who died last week Wednesday night at St. Nicholas hospital, Sheboygan. He was stricken with a heart attack at his home earlier that evening. The services were held at St. Peter's United Church of Christ with the Rev. Vernon Jaberg, pastor, officiating. Burial was made in the Bethlehem United Church of Christ cemetery with the Rev. Carl Fried officiating. He was born November 16, 1916, near Hilbert, the son of Nicholas and Norma Dickrell The family moved later to the Town of Russell where he attended St. Ann's Catholic school. On June 15, 1940, he was married to Luella Valleskey, of the Town of Schleswig. They lived in the townships where he was employed by the Valleskey Cheese Factory. For the past 15 years he was employed at the Leverenz Shoe Co. at New Holstein. Seven years ago he and his wife moved to Kiel. He was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel. LUELLA DICKRELL Mrs. Luella Dickrell, 51, of 918 4th St., Kiel, died Monday evening at St. Nicholas Hospital. The former Luella Valleskey was born in the Town of Schleswig on Oct. 26, 1917, the daughter of the late William and Norma Valleskey, and was confirmed at Bethlehem United Church of Christ. She married Clarence Dickrell of the Town of Russell on June 15, 1940. The couple lived in Schleswig until moving to Kiel 12 years ago. Mrs. Dickrell was employed at the Leverenz Shoe Co. in New Holstein. She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel. Her husband died in 1964. FRIEDERICKE FELDT Kiel—Mrs. Fredericke Feldt (nee Versch) died on Friday in Town Schleswig at the age of 69 years following a stroke. She was born December 3rd, 1836 in Raverstein, Germany. In 1859 she was married to Daniel Feldt and in 1866 they came to America and Town Schleswig. Her husband died in 1904. She is survived by one son, three daughters and 16 grandchildren. FRIEDRICH FELDT Frederick William Feldt, 97, died Saturday at the home of Fred W. Winkel in town Schleswig, Manitowoc county, of general debility, after being ill three weeks. The deceased was one of the oldest residents of the state. He was born May 1, 1821, in Wuderge, Pommern, Germany, and was united in marriage in Germany, where his wife died a short time later. Thirty-nine years ago he migrated to America. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon. Burial was made in the cemetery of the Bethlem’s (sic) church, Rev. O. Saewert officiated. In 1892 he married Mary Wilke of the town of Schleswig and the couple located in the town of Schleswig where they made their home since that time. He was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, the church brotherhood, and served on the church consistory. OTTO GIERKE Otto Gierke of the town of Schleswig died at St. Nicholas hospital in Sheboygan early Sunday morning as the result of injuries he received in an automobile accident at Cleveland Friday night. He was 21 years old. According to reports, Mr. Gierke, together with two other young men was going to a dance in Cleveland, when the lights on their car went out, the machine striking a culvert in the road as it approached the village and overturned. Deceased suffered a broken back, but neither of the other two were injured. He was brought to the hospital in a paralyized condition and did not rally up to the time of his death. The car was owned by Mr. Spitzer, who was driving it at the time, according to a Sheboygan physician who was called to attend Mr. Gierke. Deceased is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. August Gierke of Schleswig, three brothers and three sisters. The funeral took place Wednesday, services being held at the Bethlehem's church in Schleswig, Rev. Otto Saewert officiating. Interment in the church cemetery. - November, 1921


RAYMOND F. GIERKE Raymond F. Gierke, 84, formerly of Kiel died peacefully Sunday morning, September 23, 2007, at Calumet Medical Center, Chilton. He currently was a resident at Willowpark New Holstein. He was born February 21, 1923, son of the late Helmuth & Meta Karsteadt Gierke. Ray attended district school in the Town of Eaton and Kiel High School. On August 28, 1948 he married Lila Lilge at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel. Lila preceded him in death on October 7, 1999. He was a lifelong member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig where he was a member of the church brotherhood, past member of the church consistory, cemetery board and was a lifelong member of th church choir. He operated the Gierke homestead farm and lived there all his life. He was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ in the Town of Schleswig and of the church’s brotherhood. EDGAR HENNING Edgar R. Henning, 78, of R. 1, Kiel, a retired Town of Schleswig farmer, died Wednesday afternoon at Manitowoc Memorial Hospital. He was born April 27, 1898, in the Town of Schleswig, a son of August and Louisa Schwartz Henning. He attended local school. On May 12, 1921, he married Norma Balz at Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Schleswig. The couple made their home on the Henning homestead, operating it until their retirement in 1958. EVELYN HENNING The angel of death entered the home of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Henning Thursday evening, claiming their infant daughter, Evelyn, who passed away after a short illness, and at the age of 5 months. HELENA HENNING Mrs. Henning of the Town of Schleswig is Called To Rest Kiel – (Special) – Mrs. Rudolph Henning, 61, well-known resident of the town of Schleswig, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Nicholas hospital in Sheboygan, where she had been confined for the past week following an operation. Mrs. Henning, nee Helene Voss, was born Jan. 5, 1877, on a farm in the town of Schleswig, the daughter of the late Ernst and Fredericka Voss. She was married to Rudolph Henning of the same township on Oct. 28, 1897, and the couple located on their present farm home where they have resided for the past 40 years. She is survived by her husband; five children, Mrs. Albert (Aroma) Maurer of near Kiel, Mrs. Harry (Alma) Ruh of the town of Schleswig, Mr. Clarence (Ida) Herman of Sheboygan, Armin of Greenbush and Raymond at home; nine grandchildren; and six sisters, Mrs. Bertha Jochimsen and Mrs. William Ninmer of New Holstein, Mrs. Amelia Lueloff of Witte, Wis., Mrs. Frank Bratz, Mrs. Elizabeth Karsteadt and Mrs. William Schnell of the town of Schleswig. JELLANE M. HENNING Jellane Melverne Henning, age 59,of 19706 Henning Road, Kiel, died peacefully Sunday, August 16, 1992, at her home from Sarcoma cancer. A Worship Service of Resurrection will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 1992, at 10 a.m. at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig, with the Rev. Melinda Feller officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. She was born April 23, 1933, in Plymouth, daughter of Harry and Roma Kasten Rabe. Jellane was a graduate of Kiel High School. On November 29, 1952, she married Everett Henning at Zion Lutheran Church, Louis Corners. Together the couple owned and operated Henning Cheese factory. She was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig, the Ladies Aide, and a past member of the church choir. Survivors include her husband, Everett, one daughter Kaylin and Cyril Schmitz, New Holstein; three sons, Kim and Fay, Two Rivers, Kerry and Barb, Rural Kiel, Kert and Christine, Kiel; nine grandchildren, Melinda, Matthew and Marland Schmitz. LOUISE HENNING Schleswig – Mrs. Louisa Henning(sic), nee Heckmann, passed away at the home of her son, August, last Wednesday evening at 10:30, after an illness of several months, due to the infirmities of old age. The deceased was born at Blankenburg, Province of Brandenburg, Germany, Aug. 7th, 1836, where she was united in marriage to Christ. Henning Nov. 10th, 1861. In the fall of 1869 the family came to America, at first residing in Town Meeme for about 6 years, when they bought the farm that is now owned by her son, August where the aged couple always made their home. Her husband died about 7 years ago. Five children were born to them of whom one daughter, Mrs. Wm. Streblow, died in the spring of 1916. She leaves two sons, August on the old homestead, Rudolph, also of Schleswig; 2 daughters, Mrs. Minna Radder of Eaton and Mrs. Emma Wriedt of Kiel; also 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. OTTO A. HENNING Otto A. Henning, 67, a prominent Town of Schleswig cheesemaker, died early today at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital. He operated the Lakeside Cheese Factory for 48 years. His was the last cheese factory remaining in the Town of Schleswig. Mr. Henning was born Jan. 31, 1895, in the Town of Schleswig, a son of the late August and Louisa Henning. He attended the district school and is a graduate of the short course in dairying of the University of Wisconsin. He was a lifelong member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig, and of the Churchmen's Brotherhood. A former member of the school board of District No. 1, which consolidated with the Kiel district, Mr. Henning was also a former member of the Wisconsin Cheesemaker's Association. On Nov. 6, 1917, he married Norma Reichwaldt of the Town of Schleswig. The couple observed their 45th wedding anniversary in November of last year. RUDOLPH W. HENNING After a year's illness Rudolph W. Henning, 72, well-known town of Schleswig farmer, passed away at his farm home on Friday evening. The deceased was born in the town of Meeme on March 22, 1873, the son of the late Christian and Louise Hickman Henning. He married Helena Voss, town of Schleswig on October 25, 1897. Folowing his marriage Mr. Henning worked as a mason for a number of years. For the past 45 years he was engaged in farming. He was an elder and a deacon of the Bethlehem Evangelical and Reformed church, town of Schleswig and was a devout member of that parish. He was a director of the Schleswig Telephone company. Surviving him are three daughters, Mrs. Albert (Aroma) Maurer and Mrs. Harry (Alma) Ruh, town of Schleswig, and Mrs. Clarence (Ida) Herman. Sheboygan; two sons, Armin, Random Lake, and Raymond, on the homestead farm; 10 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother, August of Kiel; and one sister, Mrs. Minnie Radder, town of Eaton. His wife preceded him in death on Jan. 26, 1938. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 1:30 p. m. at the Meiselwitz Funeral home and at 2 p.m. at the Bethlehem Evangelical and Reformed church. Rev. August Hammann and Rev. Charles Reppert officiated at the funeral services. Pall bearers were Edgar Henning, Helmuth Reichwaldt, William Valleskey, August Wriedt, Arthur Bratz and Edwin Lueloff. AMALIA KARSTAEDT Mrs. Amelia(sic) Karstaedt, aged 66, resident of the town of Eaton, passed away at the farm home at five o'clock Friday morning. The deceased, nee Amelia Schnell, was born the daughter of the late Fred and Flora Mueller-Schnell, in the town of Eaton on September 26, 1878. On May 22, 1898 she was united in marriage with William Karstaedt, and the couple operated a cheese factory at Five Corners, Town Eaton, and later purchased the present farm home. Her husband passed away in March, 1912, and since his death she and her son Arno have been operating the farm. Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Edgar (Leona) Burgdorf of Sheboygan, Mrs. William (Myrtle) Reichwaldt of the town of Schleswig, Mrs. Alois (Erna) Beck of Cambellsport; a son, Arno, at home; two brothers, William Schnell of the town of Schleswig, and Adolph Schnell of Plymouth; a sister, Mrs. Albert Wetzel of Plymouth, and ten grand- children. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:15 o'clock at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, and at 2 o'clock at the Bethlehem Evangelical and Reformed church, with the Rev. ARNO W. KARSTAEDT Arno Karstaedt, 71, of Route 1, Kiel, Cedar Lake, died Tuesday morning at Theda Clark Memorial Hospital in Neenah, where he had been a patient for three weeks. He was born May 5, 1911, in the Town of Eaton, son of William and Amalia Schnell Karstaedt, He attended district school in the Town of Eaton. Mr. Karstaedt, who was known as Pinky, drove the Kiel school bus for many years, and for 20 years was the caretaker at Camp Rokolio at Cedar Lake. He was a past member of Kiel Municipal Band. CHARLES KARSTAEDT Charles Karsteadt (sic), 67, town of Eaton, died Sunday afternoon at the St. Nicholas hospital in Sheboygan where he had been confined for one week. He had been in failing health for about a year. He was born in the town of Mosel, Sheboygan county, in 1877, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Karsteadt, Sr. He married Clara Schnell of the town of Eaton in 1904, and she died in 1912. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Herbert Bratz, town of Eaton; one son, Walter, Sheboygan; two grandchildren; and four brothers, Albert, Meeme, Henry, Mosel, Gustave, Sturgeon Bay and Fred, School Hill in the town of Schleswig. ELIZABETH KARSTAEDT Mrs. Elizabeth Karstaedt, 86, widow of Otto Karstaedt, died at her home, 822 Fourth St., Kiel, Saturday evening. She had not been ill and death was unexpected. She was born in the Town of Schleswig Nov. 14, 1874, the daughter of Ernst and Fredericka Backhaus Voss. She attended district schools in the township and was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem United Church of Christ in the Town of Schleswig. She was a lifelong member of the church and a charter member of the Ladies Aid Society. Her marriage to Otto Karstaedt of Sheboygan took place Nov. 14, 1894. They lived in the township where they operated a farm and cheese factory. Mr. Karstaedt died in March, 1912. She continued to live in the township until May, 1957, when she went to live with her daughter, Mrs. William (Norma) Valleskey, Kiel. Surviving are her daughter; a sister, Mrs. Emma Schnell, Kiel and one granddaughter. Funeral services will be held at the Bethlehem church with the Rev. Carl Fried, pastor officiating. OTTO KARSTAEDT Last week Wednesday at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan. Mr. Otto Karstaedt from town Schleswig, died from a two week illness due to appendicitis. The deceased was 42 years old and is survived by his grieving wife, and one daughter as well as six bothers. He was born on February 12, 1872 in Town Sheboygan and married Lizzie Voss in 1893. Mr. Karstaedt has run a cheese factory in town Schleswig for many years, and is well known and respected by all. The burial took place on Saturday afternoon at the cemetery of the Reformed Church of Schleswig with Pastor Hauser officiating, with numerous mourners attending. No newspaper cited, 1912 ********* Notes From Schleswig: Mr. Otto Karsted (sic) who died Wednesday was buried Saturday afternoon at the Bethlehem Cemetery, Ref. Houser officiated. Mr. Karsted took sick very suddenly on Monday. Tuesday they tried to get a doctor but couldn't as they were all out. Wednesday he was taken to a Sheboygan hospital, where he died the same day of appendicitis. Mr. Karsted was one of eight brothers of whom one died a week before. Otto was one of the six brothers who were pall bearers at his brother's funeral and a week later they laid him to rest. Mr. Karsted was a good upright man, a good neighbor and a good father. He was about 37 years old and leaves a wife, one daughter and six brothers to mourn his death. The heartfelt sympathy of the neighborhood is extended to the relatives of the deceased. WILHELM KARSTAEDT During the night in town Eaton from Monday to Tuesday, Mr. Wm. Karstaedt died suddenly from rheumatic heart disease after a short illness. The deceased was born on October 3, 1875 in town Sheboygan. In 1898 he married Amalie Schnell the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schnell from the town of Eaton. For 19 years Mr. Karstaedt owned a cheese factory in town Eaton and for the last five years he managed a farm. Besides his wife he is survived by four children, also seven brothers. Lueloff Dies Wednesday Mrs. Amelia(sic) Lueloff, aged 77, passed away last Wednesday evening at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Spencer in Greenwood. The deceased was born in the town of Schleswig on January 27, 1868, the daughter of the late Ernst and Fredericka Voss. The survivors include four children: Edward of this city, Elgard of Milwaukee, Arthur of Mellen, and Mrs. Herbert (Roma) Spencer of Greenwood. Her husband preceded her in death about a year ago. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. William Ninmer of New Holstein, Mrs. Elizabeth Karstaedt, and Mrs. William Schnell of the town of Schleswig. Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home at 1:30 o'clock and burial was made in the Bethel cemetery in the town of Schleswig.


WILLIAM J. MAYER William J. "Bill" Mayer, 58, of rural Valders, died on November 5, 2009 at his home in the Town of Eaton. The funeral was on Monday at Bethlehem United Church of Christ in rural Kiel with the Rev. Ashley Nolte officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Bill was born on December 31, 1950 in Manitowoc, son of the late Harold and Dorothy Meyer Mayer. He graduated from Valders High School in 1969 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1970 until 1974. Following his honorable discharge, Bill worked a number of years between Ameriquip, United Packaging and Manitowoc Engineering. He was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ in rural Kiel, the Wisconsin Steam Antique Engine Club and the American Legion. he enjoyed leatherwork, photography, tinkering with engines, tractors and working with model kits. He is survived by three sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Peter Schema of Kiel, Linda and Ken Thrune of West Bend and Sharon and Paul Reineck of Elkhart Lake, a brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Cindy Mayer of Valders and his uncles and aunts, Norbert and Sharlene Meyer of Sheboygan Falls, Lenore and Francis Sauer of Florida and Clem and Donna Mayer of New Holstein. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his paternal grandparents, Gottfried and Clara Mayer and his maternal grandparents, Matt and Lorena Meyer. DENNIS VERNON MEISELWITZ A 26-year-old Kiel native was killed in a two car automobile crash, Sunday, May 29, just north of Plymouth on Highway 57. Dennis Meiselwitz, of 2316 Prospect Street, New Holstein, was killed when a car driven by Kathleen Meyer, Route 4, Plymouth, crossed the median while attempted to turn left onto westbound Highway 23, and struck the southbound Meiselwitz vehicle. Meiselwitz's family, including his wife, Pam, and their eight-month old daughter, Jennifer, were injured in the accident, though their injuries were not serious. Meiselwitz was born on September 12, 1961, in Sheboygan, son of Walter and Carol (Wriedt) Meiselwitz. He attended Kiel Middle School and was a 1979 graduate of Kiel High School. On June 9, 1984, he was married to the former Pamela Sue Stecker, at St. Peter United Church of Christ, Kiel. For the past nine years, he was employed at Stoelting Inc. of Kiel. He was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig; was a church consistory and a deacon; and was a member of Kiel Snobirds Snowmobile Club. WALTER R. MEISELWITZ Walter "Wally" R. Meiselwitz, age 57, of 902 Dewey Street, Kiel, died Wednesday, October 23, 1991 at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan after a one-year courageous battle with cancer. He was born October 24, 1933 in the town of New Holstein son of the late Walter, Sr. and Vera Raquet Meiselwitz. He attended New Holstein Grade School and was a 1951 graduate of New Holstein High school. On April 24, 1954, Wally and the former Carol Wriedt were married at Bethlehem U.C.C. in the town of Schleswig. He was employed at Kohler Company for the past 37 years. Mr. Meiselwitz was a member of the Bethlehem U.C.C., town of Schleswig, the church choir and member of the Bethlehem Brotherhood, former consistory member of the church, former caretaker for the church for 17 years, member of the Kiel Park Board, and the Kohler Quarter Century Club. Survivors include his wife; Carol of Kiel one daughter, Mrs. Bonnie (James) Hanke of Route 1, Sheboygan Falls; a daughter-in-law, Pam Talerico of Kiel; a step-mother, Mary Meiselwitz of the Calumet Homestead in New Holstein; three grandchildren, Tamara, Jason, and Jennifer. He is further survived by one brother, Elroy and his wife Vivian Meiselwitz of New Holstein; three sisters, Ms. Alice (James) Feld of Kiel, Mrs. Lucille (Wallace) Wriedt of Oshkosh, Mrs. Shirley (Albert) Burchianti of Wheaton, Ill.; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Dennis in 1988. Funeral services will be held at Bethlehem U.C.C., town of Schleswig on Saturday, October 26 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. AUGUST MEYER August Meyer Passes Away August A. Meyer, aged 67, well-known town of Eaton resident, Manitowoc county, passed away suddenly at his home in Steinthal Monday evening at seven o'clock. He had been in ill health for the past several years, but had remained active. Mr. Meyer was a carpenter contractor and followed that business for 48 years. He was interested in township politics and served as town clerk, town chairman and supervisor of the town of Eaton at various times. Born Nov. 26, 1881, in the town of Meeme, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Meyer, he was married to Alma Roesch on May 9, 1908, 41 years ago to the date of his death. He was a resident of Steinthal all his life. Survivors are his wife; a son, two brothers, Walter and Fred of Sheboygan; a sister, Mrs. John Lukesh of Englewood, Calif. Funeral services were held this Thursday afternoon at two o'clock at the Bethlehem Evangelical and Reformed church In the town of Schleswig, with the Rev. C. L. Schmidt officiating. ALMA MEYER Mrs. Alma Meyer, 67, town of Eaton, passed away at St. Michael’s Hospital, Milwaukee, Thursday. She had been visiting her son in Milwaukee for the past two weeks. A week ago she fell ill and she was taken to the hospital where she died. She was born in Milwaukee on May 15, 1886, the daughter of Edwin and Wilhelmina Schmidt Roesch. When she was 11 years of age the family moved to the town of Eaton. She was confirmed at the Bethlehem Evangelical and Reformed Church. On May 9, 1908, she was married to August A. Meyer, town of Meeme. The couple settled at Steinthal, town of Eaton. She was a member of the Bethlehem Evangelical and Reformed Church, town of Schleswig, and was a charter member of the Ladies’ Aid society. Survivors include one son, Melvin, of Milwaukee; four sisters, Mrs. Bernetta Wolf and Mrs. Roman Fischer, both of Milwaukee, Mrs. William Rades of Schleswig, and Mrs. Harold Mayer of Stockbridge; and two brothers, Edwin of New Holstein and Arthur of Milwaukee. She was preceded in death by her husband who passed away May 9, 1949. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday at the Bethlehem Evangelical and Reformed Church. The Rev. W. C. Koehler will officiate and burial will be made in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Meiselwitz Funeral home, Kiel, from 2 p.m., Sunday, until 10 a.m., Monday, when it will be removed to the church to lie in state from 11 a.m. until the hour services. JEAN NEILS Mrs. Jerome O. Neils, 27, Kiel, died early Wednesday afternoon at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton, following a three-month illness. Born April 27, 1943, in the town of Schleswig, a daughter of Mrs. Glendora and the late Elroy Hammerschmidt, she attended Fountain Park District School, and graduated from Kiel High School in 1961. She ws employed at Borden's in Plymouth and at Kestell Furniture Co. New Holstein. On September 25, 1965, she married Jerome Neils of the Town of Rhine at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig. The couple lived in Kiel following marriage. Mrs. Neils was a member of Bethlehem Church, where she was confirmed, was a member of the Ladies Aid Society of the church, and a former choir member. ADOLPH NEUMANN Adolph O. Neumann, 74,of R. 1, Kiel, a retired Town of Schleswig farmer, died early Sunday at his home. He was born July 11, 1902 in the Town of Schleswig, a son of William and Anna Mauer Neumann. He attended the district school. He and a brother, Oscar, operated the Neumann home farm until their retirement. Mr. Neumann was a life member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig. He was a past director of the Bethlehem UCC Cemetery Association, a Manitowoc County deputy sheriff for 19 years and town constable for 20 years. He also was a member of the Kiel Fish & Game Association. Survivors include four sisters, Mrs. William Happel, Mrs. Erna Jung and Mrs. William Diefenthaler, all of Kiel and Mrs. Edwin Meinnert, Sheboygan, and the brother, Oscar, R. 1, Kiel. Since 1902 she has resided on the present farm home. Her husband passed away May 29, 1936. Survivors are four daughters and three sons, namely: Mrs. William (Louise) Happel of the town of Schleswig, Mrs. Edwin (Martha) Meinert of Franklin, Mrs. Walter (Erna) Jung of the town of Rhine, Mrs. William (Edna) Diefenthaler of this city, Rudolph of the town of Rhine, and Oscar and Adolph of the town of Schleswig; four grandchildren. IDA H. NEUMANN Ida Neumann, 98, formerly of the town of Schleswig, died Tuesday evening, April 10, 2001, at Calumet Homestead Rehabilitation Center, New Holstein where she was a resident the past year. She is the former Ida Hansmann, born Aug. 23, 1902 in the town of Schleswig, the daughter of Christ and Helena Voss Hansmann. On Nov. 22, 1932 she married Oscar Neumann in Waukegan, Ill. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1982. Oscar preceded her in death on Nov 10, 1994. The couple farmed in the town of Schleswig until their retirement in 1963. Ida was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ and a former member of the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed playing the piano and accordion. Survivors include one sister-in-law, (private) of Plymouth and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers, Hugo, Arno, Walter, Arvin and Theodore. OSCAR NEUMANN Oscar Neumann, 96, of 20620 Highway X, Kiel, Wis., died Thursday evening, Nov. 10, 1994 at Calumet Medical Center, Chilton, where he was a patient the past five days. He was born Feb. 27, 1898 in the Town of Schleswig, Wis., son of the late William and Anna Maurer Neumann. He attended the former Hillside Grove School and Kiel High School. On Nov. 22, 1932 he married Ida Hansmann in Waukegan, Ill. He was a dairy farmer on the family homestead in the Town of Schleswig, until retiring in 1963. During his active years, he also worked part time at Vollrath Co., Sheboygan, the furniture factory, Kiel and was an auto insurance agent for 53 years. He was a lifelong member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig, where he served as secretary for the Bethlehem Cemetery Association, served as treasurer for the town of Schleswig for 32 years and was also on the committee for the Federal Farm program for 19 years. Survivors include his wife, Ida, a resident of Willow Park, New Holstein; one sister, Edna Diefenthaler; a resident of Willow Park, New Holstein and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at 7 pm Monday, Nov. 14, 1994 at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, Kiel with the Rev. Wayne Drueck officiating. WILLIAM NEUMANN William Neumann, aged 78, passed away at his farm home in the town of Schleswig, on Friday, at 12:15 p.m. after having suffered a stroke on Tuesday, from which he never recovered. The deceased was born in Blankenburg, Germany on July 25, 1857, and came with his parents to Sheboygan on October 26, 1869. Later the Neumann family moved on a farm in the town of Eaton. He was married on November 27, 1888 to Miss Katherine Ruh, and the couple immediately located on a farm in the town of Schleswig. Later they disposed of it and purchased another farm in that township, where the deceased has resided ever since. His wife passed away on May 5, 1895, and in 1896 he was married to Miss Anna Maurer of Chilton, and the couple continued to live on the present farm home. To this union nine children were born of whom two have preceded their parents in death. He is survived by his wife, the following seven children - Mrs. William (Elizabeth) Happel of near here, Mrs. Edward (Martha) Meinert of the town of Herman, Mrs. Walter (Irma) Junk of the town of Rhine, Mrs. William (Edna) Diefenthaler of here, Rudolph of the town of Rhine, and Oscar and Adolph on the homestead farm in the town of Schleswig; three grandchildren, and one sister residing at Elkhorn. Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon from the family residence at 1:30 o'clock, and at 2 o'clock services were held at the Bethelehem's Reformed church in Schleswig, with burial being made in the adjoining church cemetery. ALVINA NINMER Mrs. Alvina Ninmer, age 94, a former Town of Schleswig resident, died early Tuesday morning, March 29, at Calumet Medical Center, Chilton, where she has been a patient the past three days. She was the former Alvina Wriedt, born May 8, 1893 in the Town of Schleswig, the daughter of the late Henry and Mary Radder Wriedt. She attended district schools and married Edwin Ninmer on September 10, 1912 at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, the Town of Schleswig. Alvina’s occupation was housewife and she and her husband farmed in the Town of Schleswig until their retirement. Her husband died February 4, 1982. She was a lifelong member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ and its Ladies Aid Society. Survivors include two sons, Clarence (Arlene) Ninmer, Kiel; Merlin (Doris Mae) Ninmer, rural Kiel; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Viola Ninmer, Kiel; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Caroline Wriedt, Sheboygan, and Mrs. Alvina Wriedt, Rocky Knoll Health Care Facility, nieces and nephews. ARLENE NINMER Arlene A. Ninmer, 83, of 22 E. Fremont St., Kiel, went to be with her Savior on Monday afternoon, May 26, 2003. She is the former Arlene Maurer, born April 23, 1920, in Kiel, daughter of the late Albert and Aroma Henning Maurer. She attended Woodland Park Elementary School and was an honor graduate of Kiel High School Class of 1938. Arlene was looking forward to her 65th class reunion in August. On May 18, 1940, Arlene married Clarence E. Ninmer at St. Peter’s U.C.C. in Kiel. The couple farmed in the Town of Schleswig until 1984 when they moved to Kiel. She also worked at the Salvatorian Center, St. Nazianz and New Holstein. Arlene and Clarence traveled 49 of the 50 states and Europe. She was a beautiful seamstress. At Christmas, her granddaughters couldn’t wait to see the dresses she had sewn for them with love. She also enjoyed writing poems for her secret pal, dancing, playing cards, gardening and canning fruits and vegetables. Every holiday was very important to her. She made sure their grandchildren and great-grandchildren always had special gifts. Arlene was a member of Bethlehem U.C.C., and a charter member of the ladies aid. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Clarence; a son, DuWayne and Marcy Ninmer of rural Kiel; daughter, Lana and Robert Prigge of Cleveland; seven grandchildren, Traci (Thomas) Rabe of rural Kiel, Kelly (James) Ryba of Mequon, Michael (Sarah) Ninmer of Kiel, Sharon (Kevin) Reinemann of Howards Grove, Shelby (Todd) Herman of rural Cleveland, Sheila (Bart) Krepsky of Sheboygan and Sarah Prigge of Milwaukee; and eight great-grandchildren, Trevor, Tasha, and Trenton Rabe, Ryen and Rene’ Ryba, Jennifer Ninmer, Andrew and Eric Reinemann. She is further survived by two sisters, Delores (Vernon) Wriedt of Kiel and Janelle (Albin Jr.) Wagner of Kiel; and brother and sister-in-law, Merlin and Doris Mae Ninmer of Kiel. Arlene is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Arlene was preceded in death by a brother, Lester, and a sister and brother-in-law, Luella and Truman Rabe. CLARENCE NINMER Clarence E. Ninmer, 93, formerly of Kiel, went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 5, 2012. He was born on August 11, 1918, son of the late Edwin & Alvina (Wriedt) Ninmer. Clarence was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, town of Schleswig, where he remained a faithful member his entire life. He graduated from Hillside Grove School and then stayed at home to help his father & mother farm. At the age of 18 he started hauling milk for Henning Cheese and continued for 45 years. On May 18, 1940, he married Arlene Maurer, The couple bought a farm in the town of Schleswig, fixed it up and together worked very hard farming. Clarence also had various other jobs, including his own egg route. He was involved with Hillside Grove School serving on the school board as treasurer from 1943-1959 when the one room school closed. He was also 1st Supervisor for the township of Schleswig for 14 years. As an active member of Bethlehem UCC he sang in the choir and later became the president of the church Brotherhood. The couple moved to Kiel in 1975 where Clarence served on the City Council for a number of years. The couple enjoyed gardening and canning their produce. Clarence took a special interest in roses. They produced large beautiful blooms that people would stop to admire. If they weren't dancing, they were traveling. They visited every state in the United States and Europe. Besides playing a good game of Sheepshead, he belonged to the Kiel Senior Center and delivered meals. He enjoyed talking to the "locals" about farming and taking a drive to ensure the crops were progressing nicely. His wife Arlene preceded him in death on May 26, 2003. Although legally blind he maintained his good sense of humor and positive attitude. The light continued to shine on him until he was taken home. Survivors include his children: DuWayne (Marcy) Ninmer, rural Kiel, Lana (Robert) Prigge, Cleveland, seven grandchildren; Traci (Thomas) Rabe, Kelly (James) Ryba, Michael (Sarah) Ninmer, Sharon (Kevin) Reinemann, Shelby (Todd) Hermann, Sheila (Bart) Krepsky, Sarah (Kurt) Hemmingsen and ten great grandchildren; Trevor, Tasha & Trenton Rabe, Ryen & Rene Ryba, Jennifer & Ty Ninmer, Andrew & Eric Reinemann and Avery Hemmingsen. ELSIE NINMER Notes From Schleswig: On Wednesday afternoon Mrs. Henry Ninmer was buried at the Bethlehem cemetery. Mrs. Ninmer died of consumption with which she was afflicted some years.
