ALMA RADDER Mrs. Arthur C. Radder, 72, of R. 1, Kiel, died early Sunday morning at her home in the Town of Eaton. The former Alma Reichwaldt, she was born Dec. 28, 1893, in the Town of Schleswig, a daughter of the late John and Marie Kaplick Reichwaldt. She attended the Hillside Grove School in the township. On May 15, 1917, she married Arthur Radder of the Town of Eaton. The couple located on the Radder home farm which they operated until their retirement in 1957, although they have continued to maintain their residence there. Mrs. Radder was a life member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Town of Schleswig where she was baptized and confirmed, and was a member of the Ladies Aid Society. Her husband served 21 years as supervisor of the Town of Eaton. Surviving are her husband; one son, Fred of rural Kiel; three grandsons; two sisters, Mrs. Otto Henning, rural Kiel, and Mrs. Henry Hochkammer of rural Newton, and three brothers, William of rural Kiel, Otto of Kiel, and Arthur of rural Newton. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig, with the Rev. Carl Fried, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. ARTHUR RADDER Tractor Tips, Rural Kiel Man Killed Kiel – A retired farmer and former Town of Eaton supervisor was fatally injured late Monday afternoon in a tractor accident. Arthur C. Radder, 74, of R. 1, Kiel, was injured when the tractor he was riding tipped while he was plowing on the farm of his son, Fred. He was taken to St. Nicholas Hospital by the Kiel Ambulance but was pronounced dead on arrival. Born Feb. 9, 1892, in the Town of Eaton on the Radder homestead, he was a son of the late William and Friedericka Radder. On May 15, 1917, he was married to Alma Reichwaldt of the Town of Schleswig. BERTHA H. RADDER Bertha H. Radder, 90, formerly of the Town of Eaton, died Sunday morning, January 18, 2009 at Chilton Care Center. She was the former Bertha H. Stuckman, born October 2, 1918 in the Town of Centerville, daughter of the late Otto & Hulda Stock Stuckman. On June 7, 1947 she married Fred W. Radder at St. John's Reformed Church in the Town of Newton. The couple farmed in the Town of Eaton. Before her marriage Bertha worked at Schuette Department Store in Manitowoc. Her husband Fred preceded her in death on June 3, 1988. Bertha was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig and the Bethlehem Ladies. She enjoyed spending time and taking care of her grandchildren, gardening, especially flower gardening and cooking. Survivors include her three sons and grandchildren. She is further survived by one great grandchid, and one sister. DORATHEA E. J. RADDER Obituary - 1911 Dorothea (Boje) Radder On Sunday morning, in the house of her son-in-law, Mr. William Dedering near Steinthal, after a two-year struggle with heart problems, Mrs. Dorothea Radder, passed away at the age of 75 years, 10 months and 17 days. The deceased was born on December 4, 1835 in Hansdorf, Mecklenburg, Germany where she married Mr. John Radder in 1857 and came with him a year later to America and they first established themselves in the Town of Herman. After about 10 years they moved to the Town of Eaton to a farm. Her husband passed away about 20 years ago and since then she has been living by her son Wilhelm Radder. She leaves behind two sons, three daughters, one brother John Boje, 34 grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren. The burial was on Wednesday afternoon at the Bethlehem Church cemetery in the Town of Schleswig, with Pastor Hauser officiating.
ELFRIEDA RADDER Elfrieda Radder, 92, of 1235 N. Eighth St., Manitowoc, died unexpectedly Friday morning, Feb. 28, at home. Funeral services will be 1:30 pm Tuesday at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig. The Rev. James Sizelove, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Elfrieda Radder was born May 17, 1893, in the Town of Eaton, daughter of the late William and Friederike Roessler Radder. She attended district school in the Township and was self employed as a Seamstress. She resided in the Town of Eaton until moving to Manitowoc in 1965. Miss Radder was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig, Ladies Aid Society and the Manitowoc Senior Citizens. Survivors include a sisters, Mrs. Elsie Schwalbe of Valders; a niece, Mrs. Violet Frieder of Manitowoc and three nephews, Fred Radder of the Town of Eaton, Theodore Damm of Valders and Calvin Damm of rural Manitowoc. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. FRED W. RADDER Fred W. Radder, 66, of Route 1, Box 162, Lax Chapel Road, Kiel, died Friday morning at Calumet Medical Center, Chilton, following a brief illness. He was born on Nov. 15, 1921, in the Town of Eaton, son of the late Arthur and Alma (Reichwaldt) Radder. He attended grade school in the Town of Eaton and was a 1939 graduate of Kiel High School. On June 7, 1947, he married Bertha Stuckman at St. John’s Reformed Church in the Town of Newton. He farmed most of his life and was on the family homestead in the Town of Eaton. Mr. Radder was a three-term Town of Eaton Board chairman, resigning in May 1988 due to ill health. He was a lifelong member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig and was a charter member of the church choir, was a church deacon and held several other positions on the church consistory. He was also a member of the Wisconsin Towns Association. Survivors are his wife, Bertha; three sons and daughters-in-law and seven grandchildren. OTTO W. RADDER Otto Radder, 59, of R. 1, Kiel, a lifelong resident of the Town of Eaton, Manitowoc County, died today at the Sheboygan Memorial Hospital shortly after his arrival there. Mr. Radder was born in the Town of Eaton Feb. 19, 1899, and spent his entire life on the Radder homestead farm. He was the son of Henry and Wilhelmina Henning Radder. WHITNEY RADDER Whitney Kaye Radder, age 19, of 9728 Lax Chapel Road, Kiel, died on Tuesday afternoon, April 10, 2010, as a result of an automobile accident. She was born Soh Hyun Park in Seoul, Kora, on Aug. 20, 1990. On Dec. 19, 1990 she came to the United States to her parents, Robert and Kaye (Henschel) Radder. Whitney attended Kiel Schools and was the Valedictorian of the 2009 Class of Kiel High School. She currently was a student at UW-Green Bay where she was pursuing a degree in Elementary education. She was a member of the UW-Green Bay Honor Roll and the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society. While a student of Kiel High School she was a member of the National Honor Society, a band member, a member of the girls basketball team for three years and a member of both the tennis and soccer teams for four yers. As a senior she was chosen as 2nd team all conference in soccer. She was a member of the Boomerang Program, working with Elementary students. Whitney was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ where she was babptized and confirmed. She taught Sunday school and was a member of the Youth Group of the church. She had been employed at K&M Piggly Wiggly in Kiel, and was currently a work study tutor through UWGB. Whitney loved children and babysitting, her animals and pets. She also enjoyed youth soccer. ALBERTINE REICHWALDT Mrs. Albertina Reichwaldt, aged 86, a pioneer resident of the town of Schleswig, passed away Saturday at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schreiber, in the town of Schleswig, after a brief illness. Mrs. Reichwaldt was born in Pommern, Germany, Feb. 28, 1862, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig Roessler. She came to the United States in 1833, settling with her family in the town of Schleswig. She was married to Carl Reichwaldt on Oct. 18, 1884, by the Rev. Ludwig Zenk, and the couple settled on the homestead farm in the town of Schleswig. Mr. Reichwaldt died Oct. 26, 1926. Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Paul (Alfrieda) Schreiber; two brothers, Ervin of the town of Schleswig and Herbert of Plymouth; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Fredericka Radder of the town of Eaton. Two sisters and two brothers preceded her in death. Funeral services were conducted this Tuesday afternoon at the Bethlehem Evangelical and Reformed church in the town of Schleswig, with the Rev. C. Mrs. Reichwaldt, nee Anna Radder, was born Jan. 4, 1884, in the town of Eaton, daughter of the late Henry and Wilhelmina Henning Radder. She was married to Helmuth Reichwaldt May 24, 1917. The couple located at Steinthal, Manitowoc County. Her husband preceded her in death in July of 1949. She moved to the Radder home farm where she resided with her brother, Otto. Mrs. Reichwaldt was a life member of the Bethlehem United Church of Christ and a member of the Ladies Aid Society of the church. Survivors include nieces and nephews. CARL REICHWALDT (d. 1926) Death claimed Carl Reichwaldt, 69 years, pioneer resident of the town of Schleswig, last Friday at 5 p.m. at the Plymouth hospital, following an operation. He was born in Germany on June 10, 1857, and when 11 years of age came to this country with his parents, who settled on a farm in Schleswig, the present homestead. In October 1884 he was married to Miss Albertina Roeseler. This union was blessed with three children, as follows; Erwin of Schleswig, Herbert on the homestead, and Mrs. Paul Schreiber also of Schleswig. He sold his farm to his son Herbert in 1914, and continued to live with him. Mr. Reichwald was always in good health, up to two weeks ago, when he has taken to the hospital last week for an operation, from which he died not recover. Besides three children he is survived by his widow; one sister, Mrs. Carl Winkel of Colby, and two brothers, Herman of Chilton and John of Schleswig, and four grandchildren. Rev. F. Friedrichsmeier officiated at the funeral services which were held at the homestead Tuesday, and at the Bethels Reformed church. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery. ERWIN J. REICHWALDT Erwin J. Reichwaldt, 89, a retired Town of Schleswig farmer and carpenter, died Tuesday at the home of a son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Wagner, of Rt. 1, Kiel. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig. The Rev. Donald B. King will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Mr. Reichwaldt was born Dec. 6, 1885, in the town of Schleswig, son of the late Carl and Albertina Roessler Reichwaldt. He received his education in the district school. He married Meta Ninmer Oct. 13, 1908, at Bethlehem United Church of Christ. They farmed in the Town of Schleswig until his retirement in 1953 when he continued to do carpenter work. Mr. and Mrs. Reichwaldt observed their golden wedding anniversary in October of 1958. Mrs. Reichwaldt preceded him in death Aug. 5, 1963. Mr. Reichwaldt was a life member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, a charter member of the church Brotherhood and a former member of the church consistory. He was a former clerk of District No. 2 school board for 25 years, former Town of Schleswig supervisor and former director of Schleswig Telephone Co. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Edgar (Verona) Wagner, and a sister, Mrs. Paul Schreiber, of Rt. 1, Kiel, a granddaughter, four great grandchildren and a niece, Mrs. Henry (Imogene) Dexheimmer, of Rt. 1, Elkhart Lake, who was reared by Mr. and Mrs. Reichwaldt. REICHWALDT Carpenter Is Killed In Fall Near Chilton Kiel – (Special) – A carpenter was killed instantly shortly before noon today when he fell 16 feet from the roof of a shed under construction at the Henry Portman farm, five miles west of Chilton. He was Helmuth Reichwaldt, 63, a resident of the village of Steinthal in the town of Schleswig. Witnesses reported that Reichwaldt was working on the dormer when he apparently lost his balance and fell to the ground from the sloping roof of the new shed. On May 24, 1917, he was married to Miss Anne Radder of the town of Eaton. The couple made their home in the village of Steinthal all their married life. Mr. Reichwaldt was self-employed as a carpenter for almost 40 years. He was a member of the Bethlehem Evangelical and Reformed church where he was baptized and confirmed. Survivors include his wife; three sisters, Mrs. Henry Hoehkanner, Newton, Mrs. Arthur Radder, Eaton, and Mrs. Otto Henning, Schleswig, and three brothers, Arthur, Manitowoc, Otto, Kiel, and William, on the homestead farm in the town of Schleswig. His parents and one brother preceded him in death. Dr. Paul Grossheusch, president of the Mission House college, will officiate at the services in Bethlehem Evangelical and Reformed church. JOHN REICHWALDT John Reichwaldt, 79, of the town of Schleswig, passed away suddenly at his farm home as the result of a heart attack on Monday evening. He was born February 21, 1860 in Pommerania, Germany, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Reichwaldt. As a youth he came to this country with his parents, and the family located on a farm in the town of Schleswig. On October 7, 1882 he was married to Marie Kaplich, of the town of Schleswig, and the couple located on their present farm. Two years ago, the couple observed its 55th wedding anniversary. Survivors are his wife, 8 children, namely; Mrs. Henry (Ella) Hochkammer of Newton; Mrs. Arthur (Alma) Radder of Eaton; Mrs. Otto (Norma) Henning of Schleswig; Herman of Elkhart Lake; Helmuth of Steinthal; Arthur of Newton; William at home and Otto of this city. Mrs. Reichwaldt was born Sept. 10, 1862, in Germany, and when she was seven years old and came with her parents to the town of Herman, Sheboygan county. Later the family located on the farm in town Schleswig. She was married to John Reichwaldt on Oct. 7, 1883, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 11, 1939. ANNA ROEHL Mrs. Anna Roehl, 73, Succumbs After Illness At Her Home Suffering for some time from diabetes, Mrs. Anna Roehl, 73, passed away at 9 a. m. on Monday at her home in the town of Schleswig. The deceased, nee Roehrborn, was born April 9, 1858 in the town of Herman. On April 20, 1879, she was united in marriage to Christ. Roehl, who preceded her in death. To this union four children were born - Mrs. George Rabe of Schleswig, Arthur of New Holstein, Henry of the town of Eaton, and Edgar on the homestead farm. She is survived also by two sisters and one brother, who reside in Milwaukee, and by seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Wednesday of this week, the Rev. August E. Hammann of Schleswig performing the last rites. The Ladies' Aid Society, of which she was a member, attended in a body. Burial was in the church cemetery.
CHRISTIAN ROEHL Christian Roehl Dies At Home Of Son Thursday Christian Roehl, aged 88, former town of Schleswig farmer, died at 7:55 p.m. Thursday at the home of his son, Edgar, in Sheboygan, following an illness of two weeks. Mr. Roehl was born in Germany on Dec. 27, 1857, and came to this country with his parents in 1871. The family settled in Schleswig. On April 20, 1878 he was married to Miss Anna Roehrborn, and the couple located in the town of Newton, where they remained for two years, and then settled in the town of Schleswig on the homestead. Mrs. Roehl passed away in 1932, and for the past six years Mr. Roehl has been making his home in Sheboygan. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. George Rabe of Kiel; two sons, Henry of Plymouth, and Edgar of Sheboygan; a sister, Mrs. Anna Arends of Chicago; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Three sons and a daughter have preceded him in death. Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at 1:15 o'clock at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, and at 2 o'clock at the Bethlehem Evangelical and Reformed church in the town of Schleswig, with the Rev. Charles Reppert officiating. Burial was made in the church cemetery.
LUDWIG ROESLER Ludwig Roeseler(sic), 98, the oldest resident of the town of Schleswig, passed away on Tuesday morning at 11:30. He had been making his home with his daughter, Mrs. Wm. Radder. Mr. Roeseler, a native of Landsburg, Germany, was born on Feb. 7, 1829. He was married to Louisa Ebert in Germany, and in 1883 the family came to America. They made their home on a farm in the town of Schleswig. His wife preceded him in death about 30 years ago. Rev. Friedrichsmeier will conduct the funeral services, which will be held on Thursday afternoon at 1:30 at the Wm. Radder farm home, followed by services at the Schleswig Reformed church. Burial will be made in the church cemetery. She was born July 15, 1900, in the town of Schleswig, daughter of the late Rudolph and Helene Voss Henning. She attended the former Hillside Grove Grade School in the town of Schleswig. On Nov. 10, 1920 she married Harry J. Ruh at the Bethlehem United Church of Christ, town of Schleswig. The couple farmed in the town of Schleswig, then moved to Rockville in 1951. Her husband died July 12, 1984. She was a lifelong member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, town of Schleswig, Ladies Aid and the Merry-Go-Round Club in Rockville. Survivors include two daughters, Evelyn (John) Schnell, town of Schleswig; Shirley (Kenneth) Henschel of School Hill; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and one sister, Ida Herman of Sheboygan. COREY SCHMIDT Corey J. Schmidt (Rabe), age 17, of 8808 Lax Chapel Road, Kiel, died unexpectedly Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001 as a result of an automobile accident. He was born Dec. 10, 1983 in Fond du Lac, the son of Doris (Gary) Rabe and Mark (Sharon) Schmidt. Corey was a Senior Honor Student at Kiel High School where he also participated in football and basketball. For the past year he had been employed at New Holstein True-Value. He was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, town of Schleswig and a former member of the Youth Fellowship at the church. He enjoyed hunting and golfing and spending time with his special friend, Lisa. ANITA K. SCHNELL Anita K. Schnell, age 81, formerly of 20325 County X, Kiel, died early Tuesday morning, April 16, 2002 at Calumet Medical Center, Chilton. She had been a resident of Century Ridge, Chilton, since October 2001. She is the former Anita Buchholz, born Jan. 18, 1921 in the town of Schleswig, daughter of the late William Sr. and Alma Perronne Buchholz. She attended Kiel schools. On March 5, 1941 she married Lester Schnell at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Kiel. He preceded her in death on Sept. 8, 1976. Anita was employed at Tecumseh Products, New Holstein, for over 20 years until her retirement. The couple farmed on the family homestead in the town of Schleswig all their married life. She was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, town of Schleswig and the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed family gatherings, gardening, playing cards and collecting souvenir (sic) bells. FLORA SCHNELL Monday, at her home near Steinthal, Mrs. Fred Schnell – nee Mueller died after a long illness due to liver cancer at the age of 55 years. The deceased was born in the Town of Herman, Sheboygan County, and lived in the area for about 30 years. Besides her husband, six children survive her. FRED SCHNELL SCHLESWIG – Fred Schnell, a former well-known resident of the town of Eaton, passed away at his home in Colby, Clark County, on November 22nd, after a brief illness with pneumonia. Decedent was born in Shenectady, N.Y., January 22, 1855. He came to this section as a child with his parents, who settled in the town of Eaton, on the place now known as the Stauber farm. He was married in 1876 to Flora Mueller of the town of Herman, Sheboygan County. Three sons and three daughters were born of this union. The mother died in 1911, and one daughter, Mrs. Chas. Karstaedt, in 1912. In March, 1913, he entered second marriage with Mrs. Fred. Mueller of the town of Eaton. About eight years ago Mr. Schnell disposed of the homestead farm and moved to St. Nazianz, where he lived one year, then he moved to Colby in 1915, where he has since made his home. He had always enjoyed good health, until he was stricken with pneumonia a short time ago, which resulted in his death. Mr. Schnell reached the age of 67 years and 10 months; he is survived by his widow, one brother, three sons, two daughters, 13 grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends, who deeply deplore his demise. The deceased, during his residence in the town of Eaton was a staunch member of the Bethlehems congregation, which he served for 22 years as elder. He also did much toward the upbuilding of the congregation. The remains were sent from Colby to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Amalie Karstaedt, and the funeral took place on Monday afternoon, with interment in the Bethlehems church cemetery. Rev. HENRY A. SCHNELL Henry A. Schnell is Called to Rest Saturday Night Henry A. Schnell, aged 81, for many years a cobbler in Steinthal, passed away Saturday evening at 6:25 o’clock at the Anna M. Reiss Home where he had been living for the past eleven years. Mr. Schnell was born in New York September 4, 1853, the son of Frederick and Caroline Schnell. At the age of one and a half years, he came to the town of Eaton with his parents, where the Schnell family resided for many years. On November 17, 1882, he was married to Miss Emma Radder also of the town of Eaton, and the couple continued making their home in that township. There were no children. Mrs. Schnell preceded her husband in death on July 23, 1908. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o’clock at the C. J. Meiselwitz Funeral Home at Kiel and at 2 o’clock at the Bethlehem Reformed church in the town of Schleswig. The Rev. August H. JOHN SCHNELL John M. Schnell, age 85, of rural Kiel, died Monday morning, March 31, 2003 at Calumet Homestead Rehabilitation Center, New Holstein, where he resided the past four years. He was born July 17, 1917 on the family homestead, town of Eaton, son of the late Andrew and Stella Madigan Schnell. He attended Elder Grove School, town of Eaton. On June 18, 1941 he married Evelyn Ruh. The couple farmed in the town of Schleswig until their retirement. After retirement John managed the recycling center in the town of Schleswig for 15 years. John was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, town of Schleswig and was on the board of directors and vice president of Tri-County Co-op, Kiel, for 16 years. John enjoyed listening to and dancing to polka music, hunting, playing cards with his friends and traveling. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Evelyn; three children, Lola (Gary) Roeh, rural Kiel; Dianne Rice, New Berlin; Mark Schnell and special friend, Lisa of rural Kiel; six grandchildren; Chad Roeh and special friend, Lori; Shannan Roeh and special friend, Tony; Charles and Stephanie Schwarz, Patrick and Sara Schwarz, Kristin Schnell, Jenna Schnell and one great grandson, Taylor. ROGER W. SCHNELL Roger W. Schnell, 65, of 20515 CTY Hwy X, Kiel died peacefully Sunay morning, December 3, 2006 at Meadow View Manor, Sheboygan after a short stay. He was born October 14, 1941 in Sheboygan, son of the late Lester & Anita Buchholz Schnell. Roger was a 1959 graduate of Kiel High School. He was a veteran of the US Army seving his country proudly from 1964-1966 as a Mercury Missile Crewman. Roger was formerly married to Donna Flemming. He farmed in the Town of Schleswig all his life and also worked at various businesses in the area including Arps Corp., Laun Furniture Co. and Koeppen Mink Ranch. Roger was a lifelong member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig. He enjoyed family gatherings, fishing & hunting. SUE ELLEN SCHNELL Two Drown in Area Kiel Girl’s Body Found Two persons drowned in east-central Wisconsin Wednesday. The body of a 13-year-old girl was recovered from a small lake in the Town of Schleswig in Manitowoc County while dragging operations continued at noon today for a rural Kaukauna youth who disappeared in the waters of Lake Winnebago near High Cliff State Park. Sue Ellen Schnell, 13, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Schnell, R. 1, Kiel drowned in tiny Sy’s Lake northwest of Kiel. She slipped from an innertube about 4 o’clock and her body was recovered by volunteer divers and the Manitowoc County sheriff’s department about 10 p.m. ....... The Schnell girl was swimming with a friend, Kathy Schlager, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Schlager, R. 1, Kiel, on whose farm the small lake is located. Kathy said that as she turned in the water she noticed that Sue Ellen was missing. Relatives said they believed Sue Ellen might have slipped from the innertube and suffered a cramp. They described the lake as “deep”. Sue Ellen graduated earlier this month from the eighth grade at Kiel public school. ....... Sue Ellen Schnell was born in the Town of Schleswig July 6, 1952, the daughter of Lester and Anita Buchholz Schnell. WILLIAM SCHNELL William W. Schnell, 79, of R. 1, Kiel, a retired Town of Schleswig (Manitowoc County) farmer, died at 2:10 a.m. today at the farm home about five miles northeast of Kiel. Since retiring from active farming, Mr. and Mrs. Schnell had continued to live on the farm, now operated by their son, Lester. Mr. Schnell had been ailing since last March. Mr. Schnell, active in township and church circles, served several terms as a Schleswig supervisor and was currently a member of the town board of health. A member of Bethlehem Evangelical and Reformed Church in Schleswig, he formerly was on the church consistory and belonged to the Men’s Brotherhood. DEREK SCHREIBER Derek D. Schreiber, 7, of 21807 Schreiber Road, Kiel, died Tuesday morning, November 13, 1990 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. ELFRIEDA L. SCHREIBER Mrs. Elfrieda Schreiber, age 88, of 38 East Paine Street, Kiel, passed away Thursday November 26, at Calumet Medical Center, Chilton after being a patient for the past six days. The former Elfrieda Reichwaldt was born March 24, 1899, in the Town of Schleswig, the daughter of the late Carl and Albertine Roesler Reichwaldt. She attended district school in the Town of Schleswig, and on March 29, 1919 she married Paul Schreiber at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, in the Town of Schleswig. The couple observed their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1974. Mr. Schreiber died January 10, 1975. The couple lived in the Town of Meeme for one year before moving to the Town of Schleswig where they farmed until retiring in 1978. Mrs. Schreiber was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ and its Ladies Aid. JOYCE SCHREIBER Joyce A Schreiber, 42, of 21620 Schreiber Rd., Kiel, died unexpectedly Monday morning, March 4, 2002 at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital. She is the former Joyce Peters, born Feb. 27, 1960 in Waukesha, daughter of Leon Peters and Ruth Brook Mitchell. She attended grade school in California and was a 1978 graduate of Campbellsport High School. On Nov. 21, 1981, she married Ronald Schreiber at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig. Joyce was employed at Hennings Cheese Factory for a number of years and also helped her husband on their farm. For approximately seven years, she worked at the Plymouth wreath factory and most recently was employed as bakery manager at K & M Piggly Wiggly, Kiel. She was a member of Bethlehem UCC, Town of Schleswig, a member of Merry Christians and the church choir, taught Sunday School and also was a Faith Mentor for one confirmand. She also was a past 4-H leader for the Schleswig Cadets. Joyce was a seamstress known to many as “Sew What’s New” and enjoyed cake decorating. LUCILLE SCHREIBER Lucille E “Ma” Schreiber, 83, of 21620 Schreiber Rd. Kiel, died Thursday morning, June 18, 2009 at Homestead Care Center, New Holstein. She was the former Lucille Koppelmann, born Feb. 12, 1926 in Sheboygan, daughter of the late Otto and Helene Hernberger Koppelmann. She attended Champion Grade School. She married Melvin E. Schreiber on Oct. 27, 1945 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, town of Mosel. The couple farmed in the town of Schleswig until retiring in 1990. Melvin preceded her in death on April 30, 2001. Lucille was a member of Bethlehem Uni8ted Church of Christ, town of Schleswig and a former member of the Ladies Aid and the church choir. Lucille belonged to several card clubs in the area and was an election volunteer for the Town of Schleswig. She enjoyed puzzles, embroidery, reading, playing cards and gardening. MELVIN SCHREIBER Melvin E Schreiber, 79, of 21502 Schreiber Road, Kiel, died Sunday morning, April 29, 2001 at Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center where he was a patient the past 4 days. He was born June 29, 1921 in the town of Schleswig, son of Paul and Elfrieda Reichwaldt Schreiber. He attended Hillside Grove School. On Oct. 27, 1945, Melvin married Lucille Koppelmann at Immanuel Lutheran Church in the town of Mosel. Melvin farmed all his life, retiring in 1990. Melvin also did carpentry work. He was a lifetime member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ in the town of Schleswig where he was a member of the Church Consistory and the cemetery board. Melvin enjoyed his family, playing card, gardening and had a love of birds. WILLIAM R. VALLESKEY William R. Valleskey, 68, of 822 Fourth St., Kiel, a former cheesemaker and farmer, died Monday evening at his home. He had been in ill health six months. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig, with the Rev. Carl Fried officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Valleskey was born June 27, 1894 in the Town of Rockland, son of the late Charles and Angustina Kosmosky Valleskey. He was educated in the district schools and Oct. 28, 1913, married Norma Karstaedt in the Town of Schleswig. He operated cheese factories in the township. The family moved to Kiel in 1957 where he was employed as a custodian in the city school systems until forced to retire because of illness. He was a member of the men's brotherhood of his church. Among survivors are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Clarence (Luella) Dickrell of Kiel; two brothers, Ernst and Arthur of Collins; and two sisters, Mrs. Olga Lemke of Fresco, Calif., and Mrs. Lillian Olm of Manitowoc. ERNST VOSS SCHLESWIG – Another old pioneer of the town of Schleswig passed away last Friday afternoon, namely Ernest Ludwig Voss, at the age of 82 years and 9 months. The deceased was born at Bernsdorf near Dramburg, Provice Pommerania, Germany, Aug. 20, 1838. As a 13 yr. old boy he came to America with his parents, who first resided in the town of Mosel, Sheboygan County, coming to the town of Schleswig about three years later, where his father bought the farm that is now owned by the son-in-law of the deceased, namely Wm. Schnell. Later he bought his father’s farm, from which he retired about 19 years ago. Mr. Voss was married twice; first to Justina Kletzien, who died about 2 years later, leaving an infant daughter. Some time later he married Frederike Backhaus. Eight daughters were born to them of whom one, Martha, died at the age of 9 years. The aged couple had the honor to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary five years ago. Seven years ago the deceased lost his right eye and four years later the left eye failed him. He had been confined to his bed for over a year. He leaves his widow and eight daughters, namely Mrs. Wm. Jochimsen, Mrs. Ed. Luelloff, Mrs. Frank Bratz, Mrs. Lizzie Karstaedt, Mrs. Rud. Henning, Mrs. Wm. Ninmer, Mrs. Otto Schnell and Mrs. Wm. Schnell. Also 23 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. The funeral was held Monday afternoon from his home to the Reformed church, with interment in the church cemetery. Rev. O. Saewert officiated. Six grandsons were pallbearers. FRIEDERICKA VOSS Having reached the age of 82 years, Mrs. Frederika(sic) Voss, nee Backhaus, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Schnell near here Tuesday morning of this week. The deceased was born March 21, 1847, in Germany. With her family she came to this country in 1866, settling in Illinois. A year later upon her marriage to Ernst Voss, they moved to Manitowoc county, where they have lived ever since. Mrs. Voss came six years ago to live with her daughter. Funeral services were held this Thursday morning from the Schleswig church, the Rev. August Hammann performing the last rites. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery. EDGAR WAGNER Edgar C Wagner, 77, of 20228 Highway X, Kiel, died Wednesday afternoon at home following a brief illness. He was born July 31, 1909, in the Town of Liberty, Manitowoc County the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Spindler Wagner. He attended Woodland schools. On May 19, 1934, he was married to Verona Reichwaldt at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig. Mr. Wagner farmed in the Town of Schleswig his entire life. He was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ and a past member of the church’s consistory. He was a clerk for the Hillside Grove School Board. Survivors include his wife; a daughter (private), four grandchildren; a great- grandchild; and two brothers, Arvin of Kiel and Arno of Louis Corners. VERONA WAGNER Verona A. Wagner, 89, a resident of Calumet Homestead Rehabilitation Center, New Holstein and formerly of Kiel, died Thursday evening, June 1, 2000, at Calumet Medical Center, Chilton, where she was a patient for two days. She is the former Verona A. Reichwaldt, born Sept. 19, 1910 in the town of Schleswig, the daughter of the late Erwin and Meta Ninmer Reichwaldt. She attended Hillside Grove School in the town of Schleswig. On May 19, 1934 she married Edgar C. Wagner at Bethlehem United Church of Christ. Edgar preceded her in death on Nov. 19, 1986. The couple farmed in the town of Schleswig until their retirement. She was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ and the Ladies Aid. Verona enjoyed sewing her own clothes, gardening and taking care of her house plants. Survivors include one daughter, Salva Jean (Ronald) Matznick, of Rockville, four grandchildren; Erick (Sandy) Matznick of Kiel, Steve (Julie) Matznick of Kiel, Cheryl (Larry) Ziegelbauer of Chilton and Michelle (Keith) Koeser of Elkhart Lake. She is also survived by brother and sister-in law, Olieta Wagner and Arvin (Hilma) Wagner both of Kiel. Funeral services will be held at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, Kiel. CHRISTIAN WINKEL Christ Winkel, a veteran soldier of Schleswig who has for some years resided at the Soldiers' Home, died of apoplexy of the brain. His remains were brought to Kiel Saturday evening. ALVINA WRIEDT Mrs. Alvina A. Wriedt, age 83, a former St. Nazianz resident, died Tuesday morning, at Valley View Medical Center, Plymouth where she was a patient for one day. She had resided at Rocky Knoll for the past 2 1/2 years. She is the former Alvina Henning born on Dec. 10, 1904, Town of Schleswig, daughter of the late August and Louisa Schwartz Henning. She attended Hillside Grove School, Town of Schleswig. On Nov. 25, 1924 she married August A Wriedt at Bethlehem UCC. The couple owned and operated the Western Cheese Factory in the Town of Eaton until their retirement. He died June 30, 1974. She belonged to Bethlehem UCC and the church Ladies Aid. Survivors include two sons, one daughter, four grandchildren and eight great grand- children. She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Brian Wriedt and Dennis Meiselwitz, two brothers and one sister. AUGUST A. WRIEDT August A. Wriedt, 72, of 103 5th Ave., St. Nazianz, a retired cheesemaker, died early Sunday at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, following a lengthy illness. Born on Dec. 1, 1901 in the Town of Schleswig, he was a son of the late Henry and Mary Radder Wriedt. On Nov. 25, 1924 he married Alvina Henning at St. Peter United Church of Christ, Kiel. A cheesemaker for 56 years, he operated the High Point factory in the Town of Liberty for 17 years and the Five Corners factory in the Town of Eaton from 1942 until his retirement in 1967, when the couple moved to St. Nazianz. He was a director of St. Nazianz State Bank for 27 years. Mr. Wriedt was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Schleswig, and a former member of the Wisconsin Cheesemakers Association. BRIAN WRIEDT Brian Wriedt, 24, of 20027 Rockville Rd., Kiel, died in an automobile accident Sunday evening October 6, on Rockville Rd., four miles east of Kiel. Funeral services will be 1:30 pm Wednesday at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig. The Rev. James Sizelove, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Brian was born July 11, 1961 at St. Paul, Minn., son of Myron and Jeanette Illig Wriedt. He was a graduate of Kiel High School with the class of 1979. He also attended Lakeland College and University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Brian was employed at Cedar Lake Resort. He was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Town of Schleswig, Kiel Softball League, Rockville Bowling Team and also My Father's Place Bean Bag Team. Survivors include his parents, a sister, Mrs. Bruce (Polly) Jeanty of Kiel, his paternal grandmother, Mrs. August Wriedt of St. Nazianz; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Ewald Maeuser of Howards Grove and a special friend, Peggy Walber. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, his maternal grandfather and his maternal step-grandfather. HENRY WRIEDT Henry Wriedt in Schleswig At the home of his daughter, Mrs. E.O. Ninmer in the town of Schleswig, Henry Wriedt, 78, well-known resident of Manitowoc county, passed away at 2 a.m. Sunday after an illness of a month. He had made his home with his daughter for the past two years. The son of Johann and Amelia Wriedt, the deceased was born on April 29, 1859, on a farm in the town of Schleswig. He was united in marriage in 1888, to Miss Mary Radder, also of Schleswig, and the couple made their home in Steinthal for two years. For ten years they made their home on the Wriedt homestead, where Mrs. Wriedt passed away in 1910. Fourteen years later Mr. Wriedt married Mrs. Magdalena Frick of Sheboygan, who preceded her husband in death October 9, 1934. From 1919 to 1935 the deceased made his home in Kiel, after disposing of his farm. Since 1935 he made his home with his daughter in Schleswig. Nine children survive their father, namely: Mrs. Edward Arnold, Mrs. Otto Ninmer, Mrs. Edwin Ninmer, Mrs. George Ninmer, Mrs. Elmer Ninmer, all of the town of Schleswig; Mrs. Ben Strassmann of Green Bay; Mrs. Ralph Man???? of North Carolina; William Wriedt of Cooperstown and August Wriedt of the town of Liberty. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two brothers, Carl of Kiel and Frank of the town of Russell; four sisters, Mrs. Dora Dedering of Plymouth, Mrs. Lena Gierke of New Holstein; Mrs. Anna Bechle of Kiel and Mrs. Bertha Bechle of the town of Eaton; and two stepsons, Arno Frick of Sheboygan and Hartman Frick of Milwaukee. Meiselwitz Funeral Home here Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., and at two o'clock at the Bethlehem Evangelical and Reformed church in the town of Schleswig. The Rev. August H. Hammann, pastor, and the Rev. Mr. Wriedt was born on the farm he now left 60 years ago and it was his home continuously. He owned the farm 29 years and his father owned it 31 years. Thru hard work and saving he prospered and made a competence that will carry him and his family thru life. Mr. and Mrs. Wriedt were very kind neighbors and liked by all who knew them. MINNIE WRIEDT On Tuesday, the five month old child of Heinrich Wriedt, who lives near Steinthal, died. The mother had died shortly after the child's birth. MYRON WRIEDT Myron H. Wriedt, 85, of Rockville Road, Town of Schleswig, died Thursday afternoon, December 12, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton after suffering a stroke on Friday evening. He was born July 29, 1928 in the Town of Liberty, son of the late August & Alvina (Henning) Wriedt. Myron attended Woodland School and was a 1946 graduate of Kiel High School. On June 28, 1952 he was united in marriage to Jeanette Illig at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Town of Herman. Together the couple raised their two children, Brian & Polly. Myron was a licensed cheesemaker beginning his love for the business with his father at Western Cheese, Town of Eaton in 1946. He later bought the family business and owned and operated it until his retirement in 1979. After his retirement as a cheesemaker he worked at R.P. Jost, Cleveland as a salesman. Myron was an active and lifetime member of Bethlehem UCC, holding numerous positions on the Consistory and was currently an active member of the church choir for 64 years. He was a former treasurer for the Town of Eaton. Myron enjoyed the outdoors and all the nature surrounding him. He enjoyed making wood and walking on his 30 acres. Myron enjoyed playing cards with friends, traveling with Jeanette and belonged to the Melody Dancers for many years. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Jeanette, Kiel, daughter, Polly (Bruce) Jeanty, Kiel and grandchildren; Bryan Jeanty and Benjamin Jeanty (Cassie). He is further survived by step grandson, Chad (Sara) Jeanty, step great grand- children, Allyson, Ryan & Dylan Jeanty, one brother, Vernon (Delores) Wriedt, one sister, Carol Meiselwitz, sisters-in-law, Bernetta Brendel and Margaret Erdmann, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Brian, mother & father-in-law, Clarence & Orela Illig, brothers-in-law, Walter Meiselwitz, Ernst (Alice) Illig, Harold Brendel, DuWayne Erdmann and nephew, Dennis Meiselwitz. Funeral services for Myron will be held at 5:00 pm, Sunday, December 15, 2013 at Bethlehem UCC, 11608 Lax Chapel Road, Kiel with Rev. Ashley Nolte officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church on Sunday from 1:00 pm until the time of service. A memorial has been established in his name. Myron loved his life. He loved his house, his woods, but more than anything else, he loved the friendships he cultivated throughout his working life, friendships he had worked hard to maintain. For Myron, to keep a good friend meant more than anything to him and he loved all the wonderful people he met throughout his life.
