ANTON KOPETSKY (d. 1916) TWO RIVERS MAN DIES WHILE AT BASKET BALL GAME Excitement Causes Heart Attack and Demise of Anton Kopetsky at Game at Two Rivers Last Night - Was 24 Heart failure, believed to have been induced by excitement, caused the death of Anton Kopesky, a Two Rivers man while he was in attendance at the baskeball game between the Qu?n team of that city and the Bushey team of Appleton at Two Rivers last night. JOSEPH KORINEK

Youth Fatally Injured When He Runs into Ford Truck
Joseph Korinek Dies From Injuries When Struck by Machine; Driver Exonerated by Jury
Alderman Nic Taddy had a very unfortunate experience last week Wednesday evening. The life of a little lad was ended as a result and a home saddened. Mr. Taddy, building contractor, was motoring along on East Street on the east side when Joseph Korinek, aged 10, who was going home from St. Luke's school with a companion, ran into the path of Mr. Taddy's Ford truck while attempting to cross the street ahead of a team of horses. The boy was thrown violently to the pavement, the fender of the car striking him although Mr. Taddy applied the brakes instantly. The lad, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Korinek, 2023 Garfield Ave., sustained lung injuries and a fractured skull. Mr. Taddy immediately took the lad to a physician's office from whence he was removed to the hospital. It was found that his injuries were fatal and he died early Thursday morning.
On Saturday, at the police court, an inquest was conducted over the accident by Coroner Kemper and District Atty. Edward Meyer of Manitowoc. A jury of six men heard the evidence of witnesses who were in the vicinity of the accident at the time. The funeral was held Saturday morning with services at St. Luke's Church and interment at Forest View Cemetery. Besides the parents, six brothers and four sisters survive.
The verdict of the jury was as follows: "We find that Joseph Korinekk met death as a result of being struck by a Ford truck driven by Nic Taddy on East Street. We find Joseph Korinek failed to exercise due precautions in crossing East Street and that the accident which caused the death was unavoidable by the driver of the truck which struck him." Mr. Taddy told his story of the accident which was corroborated by other witnesses. He said that he never saw Korinek before the lad ran out from in front of the team and crashed into the right fender of the Ford truck. He said he veered to the east in an effort to avoid hitting Korinek, but was unable to prevent striking him. He said he applied the brakes and that his car did not proceed more than four or five feet after striking the lad before he came to a stoop, the boy running headlong into the finder of his car, was thrown backward on his head to the road. Alderman Taddy insisted that he was going between 15 and 18 miles an hour but slowed up when he drew alongside the Fanslau team to pass on the left side and that he also blew his horn as a warning to the driver of the team that he intended to pass the team. After the accident he told of taking young Korinek to a physician and later to the hospital at Manitowoc. Taddy insisted that he did not get a glimpse of the boy until he appeared from in front of the team and dashed headlong into his truck.

FATHER SEEKS RECOVER FOR DEATH OF SON
Circuit court today is occupied with another automobile damage case,
this time an action in which the plaintiff is seeking to recover for
the death of a child as a result of injuries when run down by a Ford
truck. Anton Korinek, as administrator of his son, Joseph Korinek,
deceased, is the plaintiff and Nicholas Taddy, Two Rivers contractor,
driver of the truck and the Underwriters’ Casualty company, a Wisconsin
corporation, the defendants. Joseph Korinek, who was eleven years old,
was run down at East Nineteenth and Jackson streets at Two Rivers
September 15 and so seriously injured that he died the next day. A
damage claim of $5000 was filed against the driver of the truck and
the insurance company. Attorney Edward L. Kelley appears for the
plaintiff and Attorney Clarence Rouiller of Milwaukee for the defense.
It was not believed the case would reach the jury today.
