In fulfilling the painful duty which devolves upon us at this time we have endeavored to present to our readers a correct report containing all the information in regard to the lost which we could obtain. We fear there will be some errors, but we have as far as possible obtained the statements of relatives or immediate friends of the deceased. We would that some other hand than ours--one better skilled in soothing afflicted hearts--might perform the sad office of saying comforting words to the distressed of our Village, but it may not be and we can only say to those who suffer, you have our heartfelt sympathy--and the sympathy of every person in Manitowoc. We have known your friends, respected them, loved them; and your loss is our loss. Let us hope that He who doeth all things well hath not permitted our friends to fall in vain. HERMAN JACOBY Was a German, and his father's family resides in Centerville, in the County. He was about 20 years of age and a promising boy. (Article continues in the same manner for each individual lost on the SEA BIRD; Geo. W. Emery, James A. Hodges, Capt. N.T. Nelson, Capt. John Sorenson, Charles Riechen, Joseph Doucett, Henry Nieman, Henry Pfeffer, James Leykom, August Wilde, Richard Flossbach, Amos Meyer, John Melka, Martin Rozezguiatee, Wm. Barter, Casper Klimer, John Foucks, Wenzel Hawlichek, P.C. Danahy, Raymond H. Hunt, Fred Henning Jr., and Thorine Oleson.) OTHERS. We hear of others who were on the boat beyond a doubt--one a Norwegian who has been chopping wood in this vicinity, could not learn his name; and two girls from the country who took passage from here with the intention of going either to Milwaukee or Chicago have not been heard from since the disaster. So it will be seen there were Thirty-one from here certainly, and two doubtful, lost on the SEA BIRD. The Manitowoc Tribune Thursday, April 16, 1868 pg. 4

The funeral was a large one, attended by a great concourse of relatives and friends. Mr. Reineman had he lived until Friday, the present week, would have been 94 years of age, having been born at Keasalbach, Nov. 11, 1816. He emigrated to America in 1853 with his wife and family of five children and located on a farm in Centerville which has been his home ever since, for 57 years. Mr. Reineman purchased a farm of 40 acres from the U.S. Government, paying therefor $100. He retired fram active work several years ago and his son, John Reineman had conducted the farm. Mrs. Reineman died eighteen years ago and one son, Peter Reineman was killed in an accident at Reedsville a year ago. Mr. Reineman is survived by two sons, John, who served as Chairman of Centerville for years and Christopher Jr., also of Centerville and two daughters, Mrs. Peter Burgwardt, Milwaukee and Mrs. Edward Lutze, this county. Mr. Reineman was universally esteemed and was widely known in the county. Manitowoc Daily Herald -Tues., Nov. 8, 1910 page 1 ******** Christoph Reineman (SIC), a pioneer of this county and 94 years of age is dead at his home in Centerville, Wis. The decedent had lived in this section of the state a great many years and had resided in the same house for fifty years. The funeral was held Monday afternoon with the interment in the cemetery at Centerville. The death of Mr. Reineman removes a man who was held in high esteem. Mr. Reineman is survived by a large number of great grandchildren. The Sheboygan Press, November 8, 1910 ******** “Christopher Reineman (sic), who died at Centerville, Manitowoc County, was 94 years old and left 4 children, thirty three grandchildren, and thirty-seven great-grandchildren. He immigrated to America in 1853, and Centerville had been his home for the fifty-seven years he had been in this country.” Sheboygan County Historical Review-Record of Deaths of well known Sheboygan County Citizens p. 8 ******** It is seldom that one lives nowadays to reach the advanced age of 92, so that our town can feel proud to have as a resident one who has passed that mark, and is none other than Mr. C. Reinemann, father of John Reineman, chairman of the town. Born in Germany ninety-one years ago, the 11th of November, he resided there until the summer of '22 when he bade farewell to his fatherland and coming to this country spent the winter at Sheboygan which was then a mere village. When spring came he moved to Centerville and at once cleared off a spot whereon he erected a log cabin which served as a home for many years. The log cabin has long ago been replaced by one of the finest dwellings in the town and that which fifty-four years ago was a wilderness is now one of the finest farms in the county. It is with pleasure that the old settler tells you he is a grandfather to thirty-one, and great grandfather to thirty-five children. There are three sons, John and Chris. Of Cleveland and Peer of Reedsville, who for a number of years have had charge of the elevator there. There are two daughters, Mrs. Peter Borgwardt of Milwaukee and Mrs. Ed. Lutze of Meeme. He makes his home with hs son John, who is on the old homestead. Although four score and eleven years of age, of him it may be said, "Bent like a laboring oar that toils in the surf of the ocean. Ben but not broken by age, is the form of our hardy pioneer." He spends most of his time perusing the papers during the winter months but in summer he takes his place with the rest in the fields. He is never more at home than when surrounded by a number of his neighbors, telling them of the many exciting incidents which occurred when much of our country was a forest.
