By statue the official performing the ceremony, is enjoined to file a certificate in the Register's office. We find they are somewhat remiss. Both Mr. and Mrs. Weinschenk were 72 years of age in June, each was born in the First ward and each has lived in that ward during all of his life time with the exception of a brief span of five years when Mr. Weinschenk made his home at Milwaukee. Miss Ida Hoeh and Edward Weinschenk were married in Manitowoc on August 27, 1878. Several children have been born to them but the couple are now living alone at 1217 South Seventh street, their children being married or engaged in business in other Wisconsin cities. In spite of advancing years, Mr. and Mrs. Weinschenk are unusually active, Mrs. Weinschenk doing her own housework and taking much interest in affairs of her little community. The husband is now rounding out his 57th year as master barber and is the city’s if not the state’s, veteran wielder of lather, scissors and razor. He owns his own shop on Washington street and does a full day’s work daily. Mr. Weinschenk is a leading musician of the city and the occasion of his golden wedding anniversary will not be permitted to pass without his associates taking some part in the festivities. He sings regularly with the Freier Saengerbund and was for years a member of the old Marine band in which he played a clarinet. He is also a violin player of unusual ability and only recently won an old time fiddler’s contest sponsored by a Manitowoc theater. The Herald-News joins with the host of friends of the couple in extending congratulations and best wishes to them. Manitowoc Herald News, Thursday, August 23, 1928 Page 8

Large numbers of friends were present to felicitate the happy couple uupon the festive event. In heart the pair were as light and joyous as they had been on the day that they stood before the altar and exchanged vows of mutual fidelity. Sorrow has not left the house entirely untouched, but the added influence of the passing years has mellowed the past griefs and the day brought only recollections of the peace and quiet with which both have been blessed during their years of married life. He made a trip to Germany with Mr. Ostenfeld and met Miss Louise Ostenfeld, his future wife, in their Schleswig home. Getting married in Germany involved too many formalities so the young people came to America and married here. They had 4 sons one of whom died about a year ago. Der Nord Westen, 13 Apr. 1899

Manitowoc Daily Herald, Wednesday, June 1, 1904 P. 1 ***** SOCIETY GIRL BECOMES A BRIDE Miss Alice Nash Weds Kirby White, of Detroit Mich., at Pretty Home Ceremony SIMPLE, PRETTY FUNCTION Quiet celebration at Which a Number of Guests From Abroad Were Present-Couple to Reside at Detroit, Mich. Perfection of arangement and the elegance of simplicty charcterized the nuptial celebration at which Miss Alice Nash became the bride of Kirby White, of Detroit, Mich., the ceremony being performed at the residence of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.J. Nash on Michigan avenue at 7 o'clock last evening. The wedding party, a small one, included relatives and more intimate friends. Rev. George Case, of Portage, uncle of the bride, officiated at the service and the only attendant was Miss Calla Guyles, cousin to Miss Nash, who was bridesmaid. The home was prettily, though not elaborately, bedecked in ferns, smilax and potted plants, and every auspice breathed the wish of happiness to the young couple. Society has evinced a great interest in the wedding, the bride bing one of the foremost of the young social leaders of the city. The marriage is the consumation to a romance of college life, the principals having met at Lawerence University, the Methodist school at Appleton where both were students. After graduation the friendship was continued through correspondence and with the result, the happy event of the present day. Miss Nash, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.J. Nash, a native of the city and always having made her home here, is well known and by a large circle of friends is admired and held in esteem for many womanly qualities. She is a graduate of the local school and of Lawrence University, having attended school at the latter institution until 1901, graduating with the class of that year. Since that time she has remained in this city. The groom, though a stranger to the city, is a young man who has achieved success in business life, being superintendent for the D.M. Ferry Seed Company at Detroit, Michigan, a position, occupancy of which is in itself a certificate of ability. Following the cermony a dinner was served and a reception held during the evening. The bridal pair departed for a wedding trip of few weeks to Mackinac Island and will then go to Detroit, Mich., to take up their residence in that city. A large circle of friends will tender hearty congratualtions and wish for the young couple all the happiness that life may hold. Out of town guests present for the wedding included Mrs. Samuel Boyd, Mrs. Mary White, Mrs. Fuller, Misses Harriet Barstow, Margaret Winslow, Henrietta Fuller, Clara Stansbury, Katharine Reeve, Florence Boyd and Robert Boyd, Appleton; Miss Helen Waldo, Green Bay; Julian and Edgar Bowen, Detroit. WHITNEY: Albert A. m: 26 Dec 1891 (co. mar. index v.6 p.145) to: Louise A. Wegner A Slip Knot Frank Spornitz, a young and enterprising farmer of Millbank, South Dakota, who is prepossessing in appearance and in possession of a well-stocked farm, came here last Thursday to fulfill a matrimonial engagement with Miss Lizzie Wegner, a young lady who graduated from our High School a few years ago and who is bright, engaging and handsome and quite popular with the young people of her social circle. After her graduation she spent two or three summers at Millbank teaching school where she became acquainted with Mr. Sporitz and, as he says, plighted her love to him. But Cupid is a fickle god and distance is the only salve needed to heal the wounds of his darts. At least since the return of Miss Wegner from the "land of the Dakotas" her affections seem to have been gradually withdrawn from her Western lover and as gradually to have centered on a young man named Whitney of Manitowoc, who, it seems, is a hustler in love matters as well as business. He besieged her heart more successfully than he imagined, for when the Western lover arrived here, she made some excuse to go to Manitowoc and there met Whitney. It did not take him long to persuade her that he was the man she ought to tie to and so together they went to the Windiate House and Justice Markham was summoned, who expeditiously made them "man and wife". On Sunday morning, Mr. Spornitz was told what had happened. The news seemed to stagger him at first but after a moment's consideration he sensibly concluded that, though it was tough, very tough, it could not be helped and there was no use kicking up a row about it. Of course, the affair caused quite a sensation in town when it became known, as the parties are well-known and respectable people. But, white everybody seems sorry for the Western lover, all unite in extending nothing but good wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Whitney.
