ANNA KOHL Mrs. John Kohl, 73, of 1011 Columbus St., Manitowoc, died Monday morning at the Fair Hill Convalescent home, Maribel, following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. Paul Blaufuss will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. She was born Anna Juenger in Green Bay in 1878 and in 1911 came to Manitowoc. She was married to Mr. Kohl in 1916. Survivors and (sic) her husband and a sister, Mrs. Kate Schwab of Two Rivers. JOHN H. KOHL John H. Kohl, 71, of 1011 Columbus St., Manitowoc, was found dead in his apartment Monday evening. Manitowoc County Coroner Dr. Theodore Teitgen estimated death from natural causes occurred Saturday evening. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. Paul H. Blaufuss will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Kohl was born in Germany July 18, 1888, son of the late Henry and Anna Kohl. He came to the United States with his parents in 1897. Mr. Kohl married Anna Juenger at Manitowoc Jan. 8, 1916. She died Oct. 27, 1952. He had been a blacksmith. There are no known relatives. ANNA KOHLBECK (d. 1969) Mrs. Anna Kohlbeck, 90, former Town of Kossuth resident, died Thursday at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. She had recently been residing at Park Lawn Home, Manitowoc. Funeral services are tentatively set for 9:15 a.m. Saturday at Sauer Funeral Home and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kellnersville. The Rev. Francis Kerscher will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mrs. Kohlbeck, nee Anna Krall, was born Oct. 26, 1878, at Kossuth, daughter of the late Jacob and Anna Swoboda Krall. She was married to John Kohlbeck Feb. 6, 1899. They resided in the Town of Kossuth. He preceded her in death in December, 1934. She resided at St. Mary Home, Manitowoc, for four years before moving to Park Lawn. Survivors include two brothers, Charles of Whitelaw and Edward of Valders and nieces and nephews. A brother and sister preceded her in death. AURELIA M. KOHLBECK Aurelia M. Kohlbeck, age 70, of 1700 S. 18th St., Manitowoc, died Monday evening, May 29, 1995, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 1, 1995, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Roman Zbieranski O.F.M. with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. She was born December 11, 1924, in Manitowoc County, daughter of the late Andrew and Clara Bonde Bushman. She married Lydian (Linky) Kohlbeck on February 25, 1952, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Manitowoc. He preceded her in death Jnuary 3, 1995. Mrs. Kolbeck was employed at Lapcor Plastics for many years until her retirement in March of 1987. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Rosary and Altar Society. EDWARD J. KOHLBECK (d. 1973) Edward J. Kohlbeck, 72, of 1509 Waldo Blvd., Manitowoc, died Monday at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay. Leo Schmitt will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mr. Kohlbeck was born Sept. 17, 1899, at Kellnersville, son of the late Joseph and Josephine Yohanek Kohlbeck. He operated a barber shop at Manitowoc for more than 40 years, and still had a part time operation of the barber shop. He married Mayme Kopidlansky Sept. 8, 1924, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kellnersville, moving to Manitowoc in 1924. He was a member of the International Barbers Union Local No. 694, Manitowoc Eagles Club Aerie 706, Holy Innocents Catholic Church and Holy Name Society of the church. (Survivors omitted for privacy.) EDWARD L. KOHLBECK (d. 1961) Edward L. Kohlbeck, 51, of 815 Marshall St., Manitowoc, died Sunday morning at his trailer residence at Riley’s Point near Sturgeon Bay. Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Jens Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and at 9 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, the Rt. Rev. Msgr. John Landowski officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Kohlbeck was born April 5, 1910, at Clarks Mills, son of the late Anton and Clara Vogel Kohlbeck, and attended St. Mary Catholic School there. He married Ethel Dickert at Clarks Mills June 19, 1941, and the couple made its home at Valders. Mr. Kohlbeck entered military service in February 1943, and served in the European Theater with the 843rd Quartermaster Gas Supply Co. He was discharged in November, 1945, with the rank of staff sergeant. He was employed on the home farm by O.T. Brennan, a contract trucker, Manitowoc Shipbuilding Inc., and Manitowoc Engineering Corp., returning to work at the latter firm after being discharged from military service. Mr. Kohlbeck was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Sea Gull Club and Local 516 of the International Association of Machinists. Survivors include his wife, two sisters, Mrs. Lawrence Grall, of Manitowoc and Mrs. Leonard Alfson, of Clarks Mills and a brother, Robert, of Clarks Mills. A sister and brother preceded him in death. ETHEL KOHLBECK MARKOSKI Ethel Markoski, age 95,of 1202 S. 13th St., Manitowoc, died Friday afternoon, Nov. 16, 2007, at the Northridge Medical and Rehabilitation Center. The former Ethel Dickert was born July 21, 1912, in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Emil and Lydia Jens Dickert. She grew up in Manitowoc and was confirmed and graduated from First German Lutheran grade school. Ethel was a 1931 graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School. On June 19, 1941, she was married to Edward Kohlbeck at Clarks Mills. He preceded her in death on Oct. 8, 1961. On Dec. 9, 1972, Ethel was married to Joseph Markoski in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on Feb. 16, 1993. In the past Ethel worked for the Manitowoc Tinsel Factory. She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. Survivors include one sister-in-law: Anne Dickert of Manitowoc; eight nieces and nephews: Gwendolyn Utecht of Bethesda, Md.; Delores Zill of Sheboygan; Roger (Marilyn) Dickert of Mukwanago; Glenn (Mary) Dickert of Hartford; Gary (Kathy) Dickert of Tucson, Ariz.; Beverly (Richard) Hagen of New Berlin; Dale (Karmen) Meissner of Two Rivers; Lois (Peter) Eckley of Two Rivers; other relatives and friends survive. Harriet was born October 17, 1927, in Two Rivers, daughter of the late Henry and Lottie Kotarek Scheer. She attended schools and graduated from the Two Rivers Washington High School. For many years she was a Two Rivers telephone operator. She later worked at the Schuette Department Store. She married Norbert Kohlbeck, December 14, 1945, in Manitowoc, where the couple made their home. Survivors include her husband, Norbert; two sons and one daughter-in- law, Ned and Carolyne Kolbeck, Manitowoc, Paul, Manitowoc; one brother and sister-in-law, Harlan and Jean Scheer, Two Rivers; one sister and brother-in-law, Adeline and Gordon Gill, Manitowoc; one grandson, Jeff, Manitowoc. JOHN J. KOHLBECK MUSICIAN OF KOSSUTH DIES John Kohlbeck Dies At 57 After Suffering Stroke John Kohlbeck, 57, Kossuth, well known musician and leader oof orchestras in the county for many years, died suddenly at his farm home last night following a stroke. Mr. Kohlbeck, who had a slight stroke a few days ago, was active about the small farm. Yesterday noon he was stricken again as he walked near the house and died a few hours later. The deceased was born in Kossuth and always resided in the county, in his earlier life he became a musician and after playing as a member of a number of orchestras organized and led his own musical groups for several years. Of late years he operated a small farm. Mr. Kohlbeck was married to Miss Anna Krall who survives with three brothers, Louis and Joseph of this city and Anton of Brillion; and two sisters, Mrs. Emil Radey and Mrs. Anna Benishek, both of Green Bay. LOUIS G. KOHLBECK Louis G. Kohlbeck, 78, 930 S. 21st St., Manitowoc, died early Tuesday morning following a brief illness. Funeral services were held this Thursday morning at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc, with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. John S. Landowski officiating. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Kohlbeck was born April 12, 1888, in the Town of Kossuth, son of the late Alois and Anna Hruska Kohlbeck. He married Anna Popelar at Kellnersville Nov. 25, 1908 and the couple located on a farm in the Town of Kossuth, moving to Manitowoc in 1919 where he was employed at Aluminum Specialty Co. He was a member of St. Mary Holy Name Society and the Musicians Local 195. He played bass with the Old Franklin Brass Band, the Mike Yindra Orchestra, Skornicka Band of Denmark, Art Braunel Orchestra, Paul Gosz Band, Dick Fricke Orchestra and Aluminum Specialty Band. LYDIAN J. KOHLBECK Lydian J. Kohlbeck, age 82, of 1700 S. 18th St., Manitowoc, died early Tuesday morning, January 3, 1995, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc. He was born January 15, 1912, in the town of Kossuth, Manitowoc County, son of the late Louis and Anna Popelar Kohlbeck. He was a veteran of World War II where he played in the Army Band. Mr. Kohlbeck was employed with the Mirro Corporation for many years until his retirement as a supervisor in 1974. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Manitowoc Senior Citizens and an Honorary Member of Musicians Union Local 195. During his musical career Linky played saxaphone and clarinet in various local bands including Romy Gosz, Dick Fricke, Gene Heier and Rudy Plocar. Lutheran Church and a member of the Ladies Aide of the church for many years. Mrs. Friedericka Kohlmeier, nee Schultz, was born in Germany October 30, 1849 and was seventy six at her last birthday. She was married in Germany and came to Manitowoc with her husband and family in 1885, settling in this city. Her husband preceded her in death nine years ago and two years ago she moved to Milwaukee with the family of her son, Fred, with whom she had made her home since. AUGUST KOHLS AUGUST KOHLS PASSES AWAY Retired Ship Carpenter Dies At His Home Here August Kohls, 75, retired ship carpenter, died this morning at the home, 1422 South 13th street. He had been ill for some time. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. from the home and at 2 o’clock from the First Evangelical Lutheran church. Interment will be at Evergreen cemetery. The deceased was born in Germany ___ ______ came to Manitowoc at the age of 21. He secured employment at the shipyards and continued at the yards until a few years ago when he retired. He married Miss Bertha Lutzke who died two years ago. BERTHA BORCHERDT KOHLS SHOCK FATAL TO MRS. KOHLS Dies At Hospital; Burial To Be On Wednesday Shock from a fall which she suffered in her home last Tuesday proved fatal to Mrs. August Kohls, 76, who died at the Holy Family hospital Sunday morning. In working about the home last week Mrs. Kohls fell and fractured her ankle. She was taken to the hospital immediately but complications developed that caused her death. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from the home, 1422 South 13th street, and at 2 p.m. from the First German Evangelical Lutheran church. Interment will be at Evergreen cemetery. The deceased, whose maiden name was Bertha Lutzke, was born in Germany in 1858 and came to Manitowoc with her parents when a young girl. She was married here 50 years ago to August Kohls and they continued to make their home here. Survivors are her husband, two daughters, Mrs. John A. EDWARD L. KOHLS Edward L. Kohls, 60, of 1406A S. 11th St., Manitowoc, died Thursday evening at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. HERMAN A. KOHLS (d. 1969) Herman A. Kohls, 83, formerly of 707 S. 15th St., Manitowoc, died Tuesday at Maple Crest Nursing Home, Whitelaw. He had lived at the home the past three weeks. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. Vernon Anderson will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mr. Kohls was born April 27, 1886, at Manitowoc, son of the late William and Minnie Krueger Kohls. He married Clara Hasenfus Nov. 8, 1911. Mr. Kohls started his career as an engraver in the plant of the Aluminum Goods. Co., and after taking a two-year college course to perfect his engraving he associated with a Joliet, Ill., jewelry store and later became associated with a jewelry firm at Oshkosh. In 1912 he returned to Manitowoc and opened a small repair shop at the corner of Eighth and Washington streets which proved the foundation of his business as owner-operator of Kohls Jewelry store. He retired from business in 1949. Mr. Kohls was a charter member of the Manitowoc Marine Band. He also organized the Sixtette orchestra, a dance band, which he headed 15 years. He was a former secretary treasurer of the Musicians Unions Local 195, and an honorary and life member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 706. Survivors include his wife, a resident of Maple Crest home; a son, Ralph; a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Ethel) Hardow; a brother, William, all of Manitowoc; five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Mrs. Kohls, who was Johanna Daugs, was born in Germany, October 9, 1855 and was married to Mr. Kohls in that country coming to America shortly afterward. KARL KOHLS Charles Kohls, 83, retired shipyard worker, died Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. August Ladwig, in Milwaukee. The body will be brought to Manitowoc and funeral services will probably be held Wednesday. Mr. Kohls was born in Germany and came to Manitowoc when a young man. He resided at 1335 South 12th street. He married Miss Hannah Daugs, who died several years ago. For years he was employed at the shipyards but has lived a retired life for some time. A year and a half ago he went to Milwaukee to make his home with his daughter. Witnesses at the rites were Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Zutz, Manitowoc, friends of the couple. Mrs. Zutz donned a blue silk suit dress, navy accessories and a corsage of pink roses for the occasion. Immediately after the ceremony the bridal pair left for northern Wisconsin. They will return to live at 1608 S. 23rd street, Manitowoc. Both are graduates of Lincoln High School. OTTO P. KOHLS Otto P. Kohls, 87, former Manitowoc resident, died Friday in High Ridge Care Center, Racine. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Jens Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. Bruce Hanstedt, pastor of First Lutheran Church, Manitowoc will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mr. Kohls was born January 13, 1891 in Sheboygan, son of the late Herman and Johanna Scheunemann Kohls. He attended Sheboygan Schools, was employed short time at Kohler Company and was a World War I Navy Veteran. He married Erna Tegen in 1932 in Milwaukee, moving to Manitowoc where he was employed at Manitowoc Shipyards during World War II and later at Mirro Aluminum Co., retiring in 1955. He was a member of VFW Post 659 of Manitowoc. The couple moved to Racine four years ago. Survivors include his wife of Racine; a daughter and son-in-law, Elda and Neil Vail of Racine; two brothers, Erwin and Hugo Kohls of Sheboygan; two grandchildren, Louise and Paul of Racine; nieces, nephews and cousins. PAUL H. KOHLS (d. 1958) Paul H. Kohls Sr., 73, of 1406 S. 12th St., Manitowoc, died Monday evening at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc, following a lingering illness. Mr. Kohls was a 50-year member of the Royal League and an honorary member of Manitowoc Marine Band. PAUL H. KOHLS (d. 1980) Paul H. (Butch) Kohls, 67,of 1608 S. 23rd St., Manitowoc, died unexpectedly Sunday evening, March 23, at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Jens Funeral Home, Manitowoc, conducted by the past worshipful master, Kenneth Hendrick of Manitowoc Masonic Lodge No. 65, cremation will follow and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Mr. Kohls was born Oct. 9, 1912, at Manitowoc, son of the late Paul H. and Eleanor Eggert Kohls. He attended Manitowoc Schools and was graduated from Lincoln High School in 1931. He was an out-standing athlete, playing football, tennis and amateur and semi-pro baseball. He married Lucile Aumann July 18, 1952, at Manitowoc, residing here all their lives, and was custodian at Washington Jr. High School until his retirement because of ill health. In addition to playing Santa claus to nearly three generations of Manitowoc children, he was active as a clown at picnics and parades in the Manitowoc area. Mr. Kohls was a member of Manitowoc Masonic Lodge No. 65 F and AM, Eagles Aerie 706 and Manitowoc-Two Rivers Baseball Association. ROBERT KOHLS DIED: Typhoid pneumonia from which he had suffered but a few days caused the death of Robert Kohls, report of whose death at Hammond, Ind., Monday was a shock to relatives and friends. The body of Mr. Kohls was brought here Tuesday night in charge of Karl Kohls, his father, and the funeral will be held this afternoon from the German Lutheran church. The young man left here only two weeks ago and soon after his arrival at Hammond was taken ill and passed away Monday. Mr. Kolancheck had been a cheesemaker and buttermaker all his life, working first for John Wier Cheese Factory and from 1924 until his retirement in 1965 from Midwest Creamery in Manitowoc. MARY KOLAR Mrs. Mary Kolar, 94, formerly of 501 Chicago St., Manitowoc, died Sunday morning at Manitowoc County Hosptial. She had been ill a month. Mrs. Kolar was born Mary Nedved June 1, 1867, in Czechoslovakia and came to the U.S. in 1904, residing at Manitowoc. She was a member of the American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliaries, the Royal Neighbors, GUG No. 13, Woman's Relief Corps and ZCBJ Lodge. Mrs. Kolar was best individual salesman of U.S. war savings bonds and stamps during the Women at War Week drive Nov. 22-28, 1942. Within the seven-day period Mrs. Kolar sold $9,600 in bonds. Total for her two weeks of sales work was $16,675. President of the War Mothers of World War I., she represented that organization in the bond drives. One of the women in Manitowoc most intereste in work of veterans' organizations, Mrs. Kolar in 1937 was honored by the American Legion Auxiliary which dedicated its history for that year to her as a mark of appreciation for her services to the group. She was also honored in 1946 by the Royal Neighbors on the occasion of completion of 20 years as flag bearer in that organization. He was employed with Mirro Aluminum Co., for 37 years as a truck driver, retiring in 1960. He married Ann Cihlar of Oshkosh in 1917. She preceded him in death in 1954. He then married Ruth Bieberitz-Roberts on December 1, 1956, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a member of the American Legion Drews Bleser Post 88 and a member of C.Z.B.J. Lodge. ANNA KOLAS Mrs. Anna Kolas, 90, of Portland, Ore., a native of Manitowoc, died Tuesday at Portland. Funeral arrangements are pending. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc, at a later date. The former Anna Stolze was born Aug. 22, 1873, at Manitowoc, daughter of the late Henry and Johanna Stolze Sr. She resided at Manitowoc until her marriage to the late Theodore Kolas, after which they moved to Milwaukee. Following Mr. Kolas death in 1924, she moved to Tacoma, Wash., where she lived with a brother, Charles Stolze. Later she moved to Portland where she made her home with a niece, Mrs. Matt (Florence Stolze) Thompson. She was a member of the Eastern Star Golden Rule Chapter 194 of Milwaukee and a life member in the White Shrine of Milwaukee. MYNNE E. KOLICEK Mynee E. Kolicek, age 101, a resident of North Ridge Care Center, died Monday, March 2, 1992, at North Ridge Care Center. Horeb, Wis., and graduated from University of Wisconsin Whitewater in Business and Administration and following his schooling he taught at Mt. Horeb, Clearwater, Minn., and LaCrosse, Wis., coming to Manitowoc in 1926 and teaching at Lincoln High School in Business Education. He married Della Hendrickson Aug. 15, 1923, at Mt. Horeb. Following his teaching at Lincoln High School, he was office manager and assistant secretary and treasurer of the National Tinsel Manufacturing Company of Manitowoc for 35 years, retiring in 1967. Mr. Kollath was a 50 year member of United Commercial Travelers, a member of First Lutheran Church and Family Service. The couple celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary Wednesday of this week. AUGUST KOLLATH (d. 1929) August Kollath, aged 70 years, for thirty-five years employed as a teamster by the Land and Fuel Co., died Tuesday night. He suffered a stroke two months ago. The deceased was born in Germany and resided there until he was 27 years of age. He was married there to Henrietta Seigert and they came to this country 43 years ago and located in Manitowoc where they have since made their home. Mr. Kollath entered the employ of the Fuel Company and continued without a break until he was stricken. CHARLES F. KOLLATH Charles F. Kollath, 71, of 1109A S. Tenth St., Manitowoc, died unexpectedly early Sunday evening at his home. He fell down a flight of stairs in mid- afternoon and death six hours later was attributed to a skull fracture. FERDINAND KOLLATH Ferdinand Kollath died suddenly here on Fri. As usual, he had taken his son Carl’s lunch to him where he worked and was on his way home when he suddenly raised his arms over his head and sank to the ground dead. A heart attack has ended his life. The deceased was born in 1835 in Pomerania and has been a Manitowoc resident since he was 14. He leaves his wife and 3 grown children. Ferdinand Kollath Drops Dead at Schmidt's Coal Yards. the death summons came to Ferdinand Kollath suddenly yesterday afternoon at Schmidt's coal yards. Mr. Kollath was 65 years of age and made his home with a son at 737 South Fifteenth street. He had remained about the house all morning reading the paper and as was customary at noon took dinner to his son, Carl, who is employed at Schmidt's coal yards. He arrived at the yards, handed the pail to his son and in answer to the query if it was cold, had replied "yes". Turning about, he threw up his hands and fell to the floor, a corpse. The body was picked up and a doctor summoned. The physician gave the cause of death as heart failure and the body was taken to the home on Fifteenth street. Deceased was born in Pomern, Germany in 1935 and resided there until 14 years ago when he removed to this city where he has since made his home. HENRY KOLLATH (d. 1913) BOY WHO WAS TO HAVE BEEN FIRST PATIENT AT COUNTY SANITORIUM DIES BEFORE HE CAN BE REMOVED Henry Kollath, a South Side youth who it had been promised should be the first patient from this city at the newly erected county sanatorium, died last night, while plans were being perfected for his removal to the institution. But for delay in opening of the sanatorium Kollath would have probably been cared for there. Kollath is a son of August Kollath, 615 Jay street, and had been ill for a long time, suffering from advanced stages of tuberculosis but application was to have been made to take him to the county sanatorium in hopes of giving him care and comfort though it was doubtful that the boy could have been helped. HERMAN KOLLATH Herman Kollath, 51, of 712 Chicago street, Manitowoc, died at the Holy Family hospital this morning after a short illness. Mr. Kollath was born in Manitowoc July 15, 1897. In 1924 he married Wilhelmina Scheeler and they made their home at 61? Franklin street. Mrs. Kollath died in 1930. He and his two daughters moved to the present address a year ago. An employee of the Lakeside Packing company for 30 years, Mr. Kollath was a foreman for that firm in recent years. KARL KOLLATH THREE DEATHS FROM THE HEAT AT MANITOWOC All heat records of the city during the sixty years of the existence of a weather observer, were broken Sunday when the thermometer rose to 100 1/2 degrees. Three deaths resulted from the heat. Frank Sorge, 54, blacksmith, overcome while at work and died two hours later. Mrs. Wilhelmina Hemschmeyer, 81, aged widow, crazed by heat and found dying in a closet in her home. The condition of the rugs, furniture and other things in the house indicate that she had been made insane by the heat. She had no relatives save one step-daughter. Charles Kollath(sic), 47, overcome in boarding house. Died in ambulance on way to hospital. MINNIE KOLLATH (d. 1930) MOTHER BADLY BURNED WHEN DRESS IGNITES Mrs. Herman Kollath, 514 Franklin Streeet is a patient at the Holy Family Hospital, suffering from serious burns on her back received when clothing became ignited at the family home shortly before 9 o'clock this morning. While her condition is not regarded as critical, the burns are extremely painful and serious. The victim was turning about in the kitchen of the home when her clothing came in contact with the fire and became ignited. Although the blaze was extinguished in a short time, the hot fire had seared the flesh to make it necessary to require hospital care and treatment. MINNIE KOLLATH (d. 1963) Mrs. Minnie Fischer Kollath, 86, of 1121 S. 17th St., Manitowoc, died Monday morning at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc, following a short illness. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. John United Church of Christ, Manitowoc, with the Rev. Paul H. Blaufuss officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery . She was born Sept. 25, 1876, in the Town of Rockland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gustave Seehawer. She was married to Henry Fischer Oct. 19, 1893. The couple farmed in the Town of Rockland until his death in 1915. She was married to Otto C. Kollath June 28, 1918, at Manitowoc and the couple continued to live at Manitowoc. He died in August of 1960. She was a member of the women’s guild of her church and was a 25-year member of the Women’s Relief Corps. Among survivors are a son, Adolph Fischer of Manitowoc; a daughter, Mrs. Edward Karmann of Green Bay; five brothers, August of Hortonville, Wis., Walter of Appleton, Theodore of Colfax, Gustave of Collins and Arnold of Brillion; two sisters, Mrs. William Halverson of Appleton and Mrs. John Duffrin of Manitowoc; seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Joseph Novak, a brother and a sister, preceded her in death. RICHARD KOLLATH RUN DOWN BY CAR, RICHARD KOLLATH DIES Youth Tells Sheriff Victim Was Walking In The Middle of Highway 141 Richard Kollath, 41, of 615 Franklin street, was fatally injured at 2 a.m. Sunday when he was hit on Highway 141 just west of the city by a car driven by Reuben Wimmer, 17, route 1, Manitowoc. Kollath died at 3:25 a.m. at the Holy Family hospital. Wimmer told Sheriff Norman Berkedal that Kollath was walking in the middle of the highway when the accident occurred almost at the identical spot where Edgar Ames was killed a few months ago. (anip) Mr. Kollath was born in this city Nov. 12, 1894, the son of Mr. and Mrs. August Kollath. He attended the Lutheran school and at the age of 16 obtained employment in the Rahr malt plant. At the time of his death he was serving his 28th year with the company and was working as a malster. He was a member of the malsters’ union. Mr. Kollath was not married. He lived with his mother, Mrs. August Kolath, and his sister, Miss Elsie, at the family home, 615 Franklin street. His father died nine years ago. Surviving relatives are his mother, two sisters, Mrs. Mary Deeks, of Roman, Mont. And Miss Elsie at home; and five brothers, Charles, Otto, William, Herman and Harry, all of this city. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Vogelsang funeral home with the Rev. L. H. Koeninger officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. The body may be viewed after 7 o’clock tonight. On the coroner’s jury are Aubrey Egan, Mrs. Stanley Waytal, Frank Smuggley, Oscar Belinske, Thomas “Sporer” and Ole Johnson. Manitowoc Herald Times, April 3, 1939 P. 2 ********** Richard Kollath, 44, Dies In Road Accident Richard Kollath, 44, living with his mother at 615 Franklin St., was fatally injured Sunday morning at 2 on Highway 141 when he was run down by a car driven by Reuben Wimmer, 17, R. 1, Manitowoc. Kollath was taken to the hospital by a taxi cab driven by Cecil Miller and died at 3:25 a.m. Paul Bieberitz and Melvin Johnsrud arrived on the scene of the accident shortly after it happened and assisted in putting the man into the cab. Wimmer told the sheriff he was blinded by the lights of an oncoming car and did not see Kollath in the center of the highway. An inquest was held Wednesday and freed the driver of blame. Born in this City Kollath had been employed at the Rahr Malting company plant. He was not married and is survived by his mother, two sisters and five brothers. ROBERT FREDERICK KOLLATH Robert F. Kollath, age 76, of 1024 N. 13th St., Manitowoc, died Tuesday morning, May 27, 2003, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc. The family will greet relatives and friends at The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, from 11 a.m. Friday until 1 p.m. at which time the funeral cortege will leave for a 1:30 p.m. funeral service at First Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. He was born November 24, 1926, in Manitowoc, son of the late Alvin and Della Hendrickson Kollath. Bob was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School, Class of 1945. He served with the United States Army in occupied Italy, receiving his honorable discharge in 1947. On November 29, 1947, he married the former Elaine F. Stastny at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. She preceded him in death Dec. 25, 2000. Bob was employed with Imperial Eastman for many years until his retirement. He was an usher at First Lutheran Church and a member of T.P.A. (Travelers Protective Association) and V.F.W. Otto Oas Post #659 of Manitowoc. WILLIAM R. KOLLATH (d. 1962) William R. Kollath, 69, of 819 York St., Manitowoc, died Thursday afternoon at the City Pit, where he suffered a heart attack. He married Elsa Haupt Oct. 15, 1919, at Manitowoc. He was employed by the City of Manitowoc for 25 years as bridge tender and mechanic at the city garage, retiring three years ago. He served in France during World War I, being discharged July 29, 1919. He was past chef de guerre of the area’s 40 et 8 Voiture and a member of Drews-Bleser Post of the Legion, serving on the post’s sick committee for 30 years and a member of the local Barracks of World War I Veterans of America Inc. Survivors include his wife, a brother, Harry, of Manitowoc and several nieces and nephews. ALVIN KOLWEY Alvin H. Kolwey Dies, Funeral To Be Saturday Alvin H. Kolwey, 43, died at his home, 1618 south 10th street, at 10:30 this morning following a three weeks illness. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Wattawa, Urbanek and Schlei funeral home, Rev. O.H. Menke officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen cemetery. Mr. Kolwey, familiarly known as "Shorty," was born March 9, 1890 in Meeme. He had lived in Manitowoc for the past twenty years. For the past fifteen years he had been employed as a truck driver with the Spindler Ice and Coal company. On August 25, 1911 he married Hulda Marschie who survives him. Besides his widow the deceased is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. August H. AUGUST KOLWEY August H. Kolwey, 80, county pioneer, died suddenly of a heart attack Sunday morning at his home two miles southwest of Valders. He had been enjoying good health and arose as usual to join his wife in preparation for observance of Christmas the following day. Shorty after nine o'clock he was stricken, and died soon after the arrival of a physician. His death saddened the Kolwey home, where the couple had observed their 55th wedding anniversary only three weeks ago. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Wattawa, Urbanek and Schlei funeral home, with interment in Evergreen cemetery. Mr. Kolwey was born in 1859 at Thiensville, Wis. When a boy he came to Meeme with his parents. He took up farming and later became a millwright, first in his father's mill and then at School Hill. He married Miss Emma Blumenstein in 1884. In 1900 he moved to what is now the village of Valders and opened a general store and became postmaster at Eaton post office. In recent years the Kolweys retired, moving to the present home on route 1, Valders. Survivors are a son, Clarence, of Milwaukee; three daughters, Mrs. J.L. Pankratz and Mrs. William Wagner, both of this city, Mrs. Ray Van Calligan of Sheboygan; two sisters, Mrs. Herman Bohne of Cleveland, Wis., Mrs. Eliza Langehahn of Meeme; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Military graveside services will be accorded Mr. Kolwey by American Legion Drews-Bleser Post No. 88 of Manitowoc. Mr. Kolwey was born Aug. 3, 1896, in the Town of Meeme, son of the late August and Emma Blumenstein Kolwey. He served in World War I from 1917 to 1919 in naval aviation in France, England and Belgium. He married Genevieve Crippen July 23, 1930?, at Washington, Iowa. She preceded him in death in August of 1967. He was a member of American Legion Drews-Bleser Post No. 88 and veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a career clothing store manager. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. William F. (Minnie) Wagner, of Manitowoc and Mrs. Raymond (Hazel) VanCulligan of Sheboygan; and nieces and nephews. EMMA KOLWEY Mrs. August Kolwey (photo), former Rt. 1, Valders, resident, died Monday afternoon at Morningside Nursing HOme, Sheboygan, after a short illness. She was 96. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. Theodore C?usius will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. The former Emma Blumenstein was born in the Town of Liberty March 23, 1882, daughter of the late Carl and Wilhelmina Guenther Blumenstein. She was married Dec. 6, 1884, at School Hill in the Town of Meeme, where they lived 16 years. They also resided a year at St. Nazianz and in 1900 moved to Valders. Mr. Kolwey died 19 years ago. When Mrs. Kolwey observed her 93rd birthday in 1955 she received anniversary congratulations from Mrs. Dwight D. Eisenhower, wife of the President. Mrs. Kolwey is survived by three daughters, Mrs. J.L. Pankratz and Mrs. William Wagner Sr., of Manitowoc and Mrs. Ray Van Calligan of Sheboygan; a son, Clarence of Valders; 10 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. Crippen, was born Oct. 7, 1893, at Muscatine, Iowa, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Crippen. She was married to Clarence A. Kolwey July 22, 1940, at Muscatine. They resided at Valders until 1963 when they established residence at Manitowoc. Mrs. Kolwey did secretarial work at the Salvatorian Seminary centers at St. Nazianz and New Holsten for many years until her retirement in 1955.
