Deforest, Mr. W.F. Delano and Miss Barbara Allan. The Tribune force, while acknowledging the receipt of a liberal quantity of the good things usually accompanying such occasions, in the cake line, tenders its congratulations and best wishes for the prosperity and continued happiness of the young couple. Manitowoc Tribune - Thurs., Oct. 5, 1876 ***** Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Delano celebrated their Silver Wedding Anniversary today. He is the local manager for the Wisconsin Telephone Co. Der Nord Westen, 03 Oct. 1901 ******** Married Fifty Years Sunday, October 3, was the Golden Wedding Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Delano and to celebrated the happy occasion they held open house for friends and neighbors from 2 to 6 o'clock at their home, 527 North Fifth Street. A large number of relatives and friends called to offer congratulations. Fifty years ago, Miss Barbara Alan became the bride of William Delano at a ceremony solemnized at the Alan home on Chicago Street with the Rev. DeForest, then rector of the Episcopal Church officiating. Since that time they have lived on the north side of the city and not only watched it grow from a village to a city, but were leaders in its development. In fact the life of Mr. Delano is the history of public service in Manitowoc. He came here from Green Bay in 1873, the Alan family having come to the city from Michigan two years previous, expecting to stay four or five months. In 1876 he undertook the management of the Northwestern Telegraph Company which is now Western Union. While still engaged there he was anxious to have telephones installed in the city but the people of Manitowoc were skeptical as to their practicality and so in 1878 he built a pair of phones, one at Hinrich's Drug Store and the other at the National Bank. The Telephone Company promised to build an exchange if he could secure thirty subscribers. By 1881 he had fifty-four subscribers and the telephone exchange was installed here with Mr. Delano as its head. He continued in the work until 1910 when the company had 800 subscribers and then resigned. Six years after he had accepted this position he became manager of the American Express agency which he continued until 1916 when he became circulation manger of the Manitowoc Herald News, a position which he still holds. Mr. and Mrs. Delano have five children, four daughters, Mrs. W.F. Onde and Mrs. R.C. Milske of this city, Mrs. F.W. Dunbar of Minneapolis, Mrs. Lorena Peterson of Mesa, a suburb of Phoenix, Ariz., and a son, Mortimer of Denver, Colo. There are also five grandchildren. Manitowoc Pilot, Thurs., Oct. 7, 1926 ******** This is his daughter: LORENA PETERSON (Feb 06 1892/Dec 1975/SSDI) Mrs. Lorena Peterson, 83, formerly of Manitowoc and more recently of Phoenix, Ariz., died Saturday afternoon at a Milwaukee hospital. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Schneider-Mittnacht Funeral Home and 1:30 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. William Harvey will officiate with burial in Greenwood Memorial Park, Phoenix. Mrs. Peterson nee Lorena Delano, was born March 6, 1892 at Manitowoc, daughter of the late William and Barbara Allan Delano. She attended high school at Manitowoc and Manitowoc county Normal Teachers College. She taught school at Milwaukee and Pheonix where she started one of the first kindergartens in the area. She was married to J. Earl Peterson in 1922 at Manitowoc, moving to Phoenix where she resided until his death in 1957. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of Phoenix. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Hazel Dunbar, of Manitowoc, a nephew James H. Milske, of Appleton and two nieces, Mrs. Lucille Barnett and Mrs. Lorraine Carroll, of Manitowoc. A brother, Mortimer Delano and two sisters, Mrs. Eva Ohde and Mrs. Irene Milske, preceded her in death. Friends may call at Schneider-Mittnacht Funeral Home from 4 to 9 o'clock this Monday evening. DETERICH: Joseph m: 5 July 1881 (co. mar. index v.5 p.44) to: Louisa Hoyer Mr. Joseph Detrick and Miss Louisa Hayes were married in church by the Rev. Father Rhode, on the morning of the Fifth. The Misses Theresa and Hattie Hayes, of Manitowoc and Miss Anna Boll, were bride's maids. A large company of relatives and friends were pleasantly entertained by the parents of the bride at their own residence, where the tables were loaded day and night with good things, and at Mr. Boll's hotel, where the beautiful music of Prof. Ed. Weineshenk's band made everybody happy. The bride is a daughter of one of our prominent citizens and by her modest, pleasant ways, has won the love of many friends. Mr. Detrick is a highly respected and wealthy young farmer, in every way worthy of her choice. Mr. Hayes engaged the band to play in church during the solemnization of his daughter's marriage and great disappointment was felt because it failed to arrive in time. Bebeau, a French lady. Der Nord Westen, 09 Sept. 1897 ******* At the residence of Rev. Father Geissler of St. Luke's church, Sept. 1, 1897, Mr. Perry Diehl and Miss Sophia Bebeau both of this city. The wedding took place just at "high noon" at the residence of Rev. Father Geissler, who performed the ceremony which united them as man and wife, in the presence of a few intimate friends and relatives. Messrs. L.H. Wilkens and H. Bemis served as groomsmen and Misses Denese Bebeau and Carrie Immler as bridesmaids. The parlors of the parsonage were beautifully decorated for the reception of the wedding party which entered just as the hour of mid-day was being struck from the church belfry. The ceremony was brief but impressive and at its conclusion the entire party were driven in carriages to the home of the bride's parents where the happy union was appropriately celebrated. The wedded pair took the evening boat for the south for short wedding journey. The Chronicle extends its most hearty congratulations and trust that a long and happy life awaits them.
